The new way of working has a tremendous impact on the way we will organize knowledge work. The role of the office will have to change as well.... how to deal with this new paradigm?

2. New paradigms
A powerful global conversation has
begun. Through the Internet, people
are discovering and inventing new
ways to share relevant knowledge with
blinding speed. As a direct result,
markets are getting smarter—and
getting smarter faster than most
companies.

5. Change = the new normal

the species that survives,
nor the most intelligent,
but rather the one most
responsive to change"

13. Generation Y
and beyond
In addition to desiring the freedom and flexibility of
virtual offices, many millennials also want to forego
inflexible long hours and spend time outside of work
focusing on their personal lives.
While this is certainly a cross-generational concern,
millennials - compared to other generations of workers
- are more vocal about demanding flexibility in the
workplace. Expect to see a shift in the workplace that
de-emphasizes face-time in the office and puts the
focus on completing assignments and getting the job
done without being tied to specific hours.

18. Social cohesion
Social cohesion is a term used in social
policy, sociology and political science to
describe the bonds or "glue" that bring
people together in society, particularly in
the context of cultural diversity. Social

19. Infrastructure is core
in the workplace strategy
The provision of a workplace infrastructure
that empowers employees through self-
regulation, engages employees through
collaboration and communication, promotes
a strong environmental ethic and sustains
organisational agility, all of which are
enabled through the adoption and
implementation of new technology platforms.

20. Empowered employees
• Employees are specialists
• Telepresence is the norm
• The flexible working contract is the norm
• Decentralisation is commonly accepted

23. City-zen
The role of cities will be extremely
important as the very large majority of
people live and work in mega urban cities,
deserting rural areas Public spaces will be
extensively used to support the community
of workers, swarming into public areas to
meet and collaborate...
Cities will become intelligent growth zones

25. Spatial planning:
Intelligent Growth Zones
No longer are buildings sustainable by just
having green technologies, sustainability is
now measured by space utilization
efficiency and one advantage of these
hubs is the fact that it is reducing the
number of vacant and abandoned
properties in the cities, which is
improving space utilisation efficiency.

26. Eco-Offices…
Growth-zones of the future
The Eco Office depicts a sustainable world
where the creation and sharing of
knowledge drives economic growth.
Operations centred around communities.
‘Employee villages’ create workplace
communities, and support a shift from
hierarchical to self-managed teams, with
flexible work/life balance.

building social capital

38. Social capital
Social capital is defined by its function. It is not a single
entity, but a variety of different entities, with two
elements in common: they all consist of some
aspect of social structures, and they
facilitate certain actions of actors within
the structure. Like other forms of capital, social
capital is productive, making possible the achievement
of certain ends that in its absence would not be possible.

40. The Hive... the netWORK
Agility, anonymity and access become
key themes. Workers become highly
mobile, and work comes to us, with
technology providing the virtual connectivity
that teams need to collaborate and co-
ordinate. A mixture of synchronous and
asynchronous communication tools
enable collaboration on projects, and access
to shared knowledge.

43. The corporate office
A ‘swarm’ society, grouped together on
the basis of shared interests and
commercial affinities, which would see a
high concentration of economic growth in
prosperous areas, with a mass migration
towards them. A society with a ghetto
mentality, defending itself from recurrent
synchronised failures.
