3. BRYAN BERG
Bryan Berg was
introduced to
cardstacking by his
grandfather at the
age of 8. He is a self-
taught artist in all of
the techniques he
uses today. Bergâs
freestanding card
structures are based
on a grid-like
arrangement, which
Berg tested in a
structural engineering
lab to support 660
pounds per square
footâwith no tape, no
glue, no folding, and
no tricks.
Berg holds a
Professional Degree in
Architecture and a
Design Achievement
Award from Iowa
State University, and a
Masters in Design
Studies from Harvard.
5. GUINNESS WORLD RECORD:
TALLEST HOUSE OF
FREESTANDING PLAYING CARDS
Bryan Berg has held the Guinness
World Record for the Tallest
House of Freestanding Playing
Cards since 1992. He has been
commissioned to break his own
record on more than ten
occasions, and has succeeded in
every challenge to set a new
record.
The project shown at left was
nearly 26 feet tall and required
1100 decks of cards to build. The
tower was constructed in Dallas,
Texas in 2007 and remains the
current Guinness World Record
for Tallest House of Cards.
Berg is hopeful for an opportunity
to build a tower 50 feet or even
100 feet tall.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORD: LARGEST HOUSE OF FREESTANDING PLAYING CARDS
Guinness World Records created a new category specially made to recognize a project Berg built in 2004:
The Worldâs Largest House of Freestanding Playing Cards. The project was a replica of Cinderellaâs Castle at
Walt Disney World which took over 30 days and 3,000 decks of cards to build and measured 15 feet square at
the base and 15 feet tall.
During Chinese New Year of 2010, Berg was commissioned to break his own record at The Venetian Macao
Resort Hotel, the largest casino in the world. The project took 44 days, 219,000 cards (4,000 decks), and set a
new Guinness World Record. With more time and space permitted, these projects are only a small example
of what could be built.
8. BEIJING OLYMPIC VILLAGE: HONG KONG, CHINA, AUGUST 2008 - Three Weeks
Berg built the Beijing Olympic Village at Langham Place Kowloon, Hong Kongâs largest shopping center, in
celebration of the Beijing Olympics. Constructed over three weeks, the project included the Birdâs Nest
Stadium, Water Cube, and other Beijing landmarks. The composition received worldwide press coverage
including CNN, Reuterâs, Yahoo!, and the AP wire as well as hits in all major media in Hong Kong and mainland
9. LEXUS TELEVISION COMMERCIAL: U.S.A. 2008 - Two Weeks
Lexus, luxury brand division of Toyota, commissioned Berg to build a city of cards around and on top of their ES
Sedan to demonstrate in a television commercial how smoothly the engine performs. The commercial played
nationwide across the U.S. for two years, and the behind-the-scenes compilation on the Lexus website became
a popular internet pick.
10. HOLIDAY INN KEY CARD HOTEL: NEW YORK CITY & WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A., SEPTEMBER 2009 - Three Months
One of Bergâs most unusual projects was completed for Holiday Inn to promote the largest hotel brand relaunch in
hospitality history. This rare glued work featured a life-size hotel room, bathroom, and lobby made entirely of hotel
keycards. The client requested a glued work so that guests could fully interact with the keycard room and
furnishings, and the front desk could be staffed with attendants giving out prizes. Media coverage included a 32-
state live satellite media tour and major television and news coverage worldwide, with key features in The Today
Show, Live! with Regis & Kelly, ESPN First Take, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Fast Company, Huffington
Post, Daily Mail, and more. The project was built in Santa Fe, and exhibited both on South Street Seaport in New

York City and the national Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. It is now permanently housed in
Kemmons Wilson Gallery, museum of life and legacy of founder of Holiday Inn, in Memphis.
11. NEW YORK CITY SKYLINE: NEW YORK CITY, U.S.A., FEBRUARY 2005 - Two Weeks
The project above was built in Times Square, New York City as a fundraiser for Southeast Asia, with one card
to represent each tsunami victim. The New York City Skyline shown here included famous landmarks such as
the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, Flat Iron, and Yankee Stadium. It took approximately two weeks
to build and was featured on the top morning television show âGood Morning Americaâ every day for 14
days. It achieved the longest time any subject has ever received continuous coverage on the show. New
York City crowds gathered against the window outside the studio to watch Bergâs progress day and night.
12. EARTH DAY RECYCLED GIFT CARD CITY: VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA, APRIL 2010 - Ten Days
In this ten day project, Berg used 22,000 recycled gift cards to create a city skyline. The project aimed to
raise awareness of recycling for Earth Day, and included daily kids workshops with elementary school groups
12
learning about conservation. The project was very colorful and unique, and Bergâs first freestanding work
with nontraditional cards.
13. ISTANBUL CEVAHIR 5TH ANNIVERSARY: ISTANBUL, TURKEY, OCTOBER 2010 - Ten Days
Berg was commissioned to build a mix of old and new architecture to celebrate the fifth anniversary of
Istanbul Cevahir, the largest shopping center in Europe. In Bergâs composition, replicas of ancient landmarks
of historic Istanbul culture including Hagia Sophia, Galata Tower, and Maiden Tower were paired with a
reconstruction of the modern Cevahir Shopping Centre. The atrium floor and balconies of the shopping
center were crowded with visitors throughout the ten day event. Bergâs first appearance in Turkey, the
project received press coverage and interviews in every major national television and news publication as
well as a live spot on the most popular late night television show.
13
14. SKY POKER 'PLAY THE NATION' CAMPAIGN: LONDON, ENGLAND, FEBRUARY 2012 - Seven Days
For Berg's first project in the UK, Sky Poker teamed up with the record holder to celebrate its highly anticipated
'Play The Nation' campaign. A division of BSkyB British Sky Broadcasting, Sky Poker is Britain's leading online
poker room. After a public Facebook vote, Sky challenged Berg to recreate one of London's most famous
landmarks: Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. In the city's 2012 Olympic Park village, Berg presented Big
Ben at Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford, the UK's largest gaming venue and biggest poker room. The
freestanding structure took 50,000 playing cards to complete. Soccer AM radio host Max Rushden performed
the knockdown, sending the enormous 14 x 7 1/2 ft composition flying with a kick of a soccer ball.
14
15. SILVERSTAR CASINO 3RD ANNIVERSARY: JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, MARCH 2011 - Ten Days
Berg's first project in Africa, the artist spent 10 days creating a replica of Silverstar Casino with 63,000
freestanding playing cards in celebration of the resort's third anniversary. The composition included the
property's gaming and dining area, hotel, lake, and fountains. Berg also hosted cardstacking workshops for
kids at Mashudu Primary School and on-site, and enlisted 4 young soccer players to help with the knockdown.
The project was covered by top print, television, and radio outlets in Johannesburg and South Africa as well as
internationally on ProSieben's Galileo Big Picture of Germany, and a segment for the Discovery Channel which
broadcast throughout North America. 15
16. SKOLL WORLD FORUM: OXFORD, ENGLAND, APRIL 2011 - Three Days
Bryan Berg worked as card architect of the iconic Radcliffe Camera building and appeared in a video
opening the 2011 Skoll World Forum in Oxford, England. Jeff Skoll, first president of eBay and billionaire
philanthropist, has created a network of non-profit organizations including this annual conference. Filmed in
Los Angeles by TakePart, digital division of Academy Award-winning production company Participant Media,
the video conveyed a message of working together for change to attendees at this gathering of world
leaders and social entrepreneurs. Participant Media films also include: Waiting for Superman, An Inconvenient
Truth, Fast Food Nation, The Cove, Charlie Wilson's War, The Kite Runner, and many more.
16
18. PRINT AND TELEVISION MEDIA
Cardstacker projects achieve high success rates in media results
for clients with extensive local, national, and international media
coverage corresponding to the scope of the project. Berg is the
only artist worldwide who performs cardstacking on a large,
professional scale. Each project is unique and universally
appealing. Media and audiences alike relate to the task of
building a house of cards, but only Berg has accomplished
projects so tall, large, and elaborate with freestanding cards, no
tape, no glue, and no tricks. Projects are consistently widely
publicized in print, television, radio, and internet.
TIMELAPSE AND VIDEO CAMPAIGNS
The Cardstacker team offers timelapse and other video
campaigns. Most clients hire timelapse video to share with press,
at the event, and online. Showtime Television created a special
video with Berg building a U.S. state capitol building in 2008 to
promote their series âThe Brotherhood.â The video received more
than 4 million views on YouTube. Berg has also created a Top 10
MTV/VH1 music video with the band The Bravery; television
commercial for Lexus; and video campaigns for Loctite and
Betfair for The World Series of Poker.
INTERNET PRESENCE
Updates about each project appear on the Cardstacker website,
Facebook, and Twitter pages. Clients can hire a custom project
blog, like The Venetian Macao House of Cards 44 day blog.
Clients such as The Venetian Macao, Holiday Inn, and Loctite for
The World Series of Poker have hired project micro-sites to

events, workshops, and contests.
19. KIDS WORKSHOPS
Workshops with children offer an effective way to involve the community first-hand in a Cardstacker event,
and also offer pleasing photo opportunities for media coverage. Berg can work with children up to 30
minutes per day during an event, teaching kids his unique technique for stacking.
16
19
20. KNOCKDOWN EVENT
The knockdown event is one of the most important and
popular dates of every project. Press and audiences
return to experience and photograph the incredible
finale, and watch Berg prove that his works are real
freestanding houses of cards. Viewers watch the cards
fall, and realize no tricks could have been used in the
construction. Clients work directly with the artist to
design a unique knockdown solution for the project: a
giant fan, kids with toys or coins to throw, a hidden
string pulled by a celebrity guest, a CEO with a
watermelon. The possibilities are endless!
