                                                 • The practice of smoking methamphetamine
                                                   began in Hawaii and then spread to
                                                   California.
                                                Used to be for:
                                                 • It was manufactured as a bronchial dilator,
                                                   they were quickly prescribed for a variety of
                                                   other conditions—narcolepsy, attention
                                                   deficit disorder, obesity, and fatigue.

How it was derived.                                              Development
• It came from it’s parent drug amphetamine.

How it was made:

• Paint stripper, camping fuel, carburetor
  cleaner (ether), drain cleaners (sulfuric acid),
  pool cleaner (muriatic acid), lye (sodium
  hydroxide), rock salt, lithium batteries, lighter
  fluid, matches, fireworks, road flares,
  antifreeze, and cold and allergy medications.

Methods of Use




It can be:
• Swallowed, snorted, injected, or
  smoked. Meth powder can be
  eaten or snorted. The powder can
  also be mixed with liquid to be
  injected into your body. Crystal
  Meth is smoke in a small glass
  pipe.

Affects the body




                               •        Taking even small amounts of meth can result in
                               increased wakefulness, increased physical activity,
                               decreased appetite, rapid breathing and heart rate,
                               irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, and
                               hyperthermia

                               High doses can elevate body temperature to dangerous,
                               sometimes lethal, levels as well as cause convulsions and
                               even cardiovascular collapse and death. Meth abuse may
                               also cause extreme anorexia, memory loss, and severe
                               dental problems.

Side Effects:
• Agitation
• Chest pain
• Heart attack                                                      Dependency
• Heart stops (in extreme cases)
• Coma (in extreme cases)
• Difficulty breathing                                                 • People who get addicted to meth start
