6. Interview
A graduating senior from Cardozo High School,
named Jenna Niles dealt with suicide. (Note: the
individual’s name has been changed due to personal
reason.)
K.L-” What makes you want to suicide?”
J.N- “I’ve been bully in middle to high school and I feel very alone, and at that
moment, it just makes me so sad that I have no one to relay on and I just want
leave this world so I don’t have to worry about anything.”
K.L- “Why did you started to cut yourself?”
J.N- “I just had so much going on in my head. I ended up doing things that I regret
to this day. I was cranky. I was irritable and embarrass, I just didn't’t know how to
handle everything at once so I decided to cut.”
K.L- “How did you feel when you want to suicide?”
J.N- “I feel like everyday I am battling to live and it’s painful, you know. I was stressful
enough for being a senior and dealing in school with all the drama just makes me hate
it even more. These past years has been very very hard and complicated but there’s
nothing I can do.”
K.L- “How did you recover?”
J.N- “I realized there are a lot more to life and I think I should focus more to the
positive side. And sometimes I think like what has my life become?”
7. Article:I
“Teen suicide is a growing health concern. It is the third-leading cause of
death for young people ages 15 to 24, surpassed only by homicide and
accidents, according to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and
Prevention.”
“Suicide is not trendy. It is an epidemic in this country, being the No. 2
killer of people between the ages of 15 and 24 (just behind automobile
accidents).”
“Adolescent suicide has tripled since 1950; 6,500 young people a year
now take their own lives. For every suicide, statistics tell us there are 50 to
100 attempts. That means teen-agers make 325,000 to 650,000 suicide
attempts.”
“There is no doubt that drugs, alcohol and suicide are a lethal mix;
however, there is no evidence to confirm Dr. Newton's claim that
alcohol and drugs are the cause behind adolescent suicide and that 85
to 90 percent of adolescents who committed suicide were drug and
alcohol users.”
