What are the iAwards?
The impact that ICT has on every part of our economy and its influence
on our day to day activities is celebrated by the iAwards each year.

The iAwards program's goal is to provide business, industry and
government with a clear view of the people leading ICT in Australia and
the quality of innovation being produced.

National company winners go on to compete with
the best in the Asia Pacific region making the
iAwards the only truly international awards
program delivered to the national ICT community.

Hints from past Judges
   • Written Entry. Be clear, concise and answer the questions.
   • Stick to word limit. Simple yet hard to do so edit wisely.
   • Criteria Ensure you demonstrate each of the specific criteria in
your responses as this is what the judges have to score against.
   • Reference material. These can consist of anything from product
brochures, referee statements, a video about your product or any
other material that supports your nomination.
   • Photos. Include photos that illustrate your solution in action not just
screen grabs or use case scenario diagrams.
   • Highlight your innovation as this is after all what the iAwards is
looking to showcase so don’t bury it in a marketing spiel.

Hinweis der Redaktion

  1. Hello and welcome to the iAwards webinarMy name is Kelly Hutchinson and I am the Executive Judge for 2012 and have been involved in the iAwards since 2008. I’d also like to introduce Jim Ellis who is the iAwards Chief Judge again this year. Together with the iAwards Judging Council we oversee the nominations and judging of the iAwards. Today’s categories also align with the international APICTA Award Categories and Jim and I both were judges in Thailand last November which saw 6 Australian companies receive honors. But more about that later.
  2. Today we are going to run through a rather comprehensive agenda which should provide you with insights into how the iAwards works and how you can make the most of your experience.
  3. In 2011 we saw the iAwards expand further, delivering the most comprehensive iAwards program in the technology industry today with Australia's three peak industry bodies: The Australian Computer society (ACS), Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and Pearcey Foundation coming together to deliver one truly premier industry awards event. This is the 18th year of the iAwards in Australia. The iAwards are the information and communications technology industry’s international awards program recognising the very best applications of Australian-developed technology innovations across industries such as media, financial services, government, hospitality and healthcare. Most importantly, the iAwards honour your achievements and provide you with unparalleled marketing opportunities and business credibility in a competitive marketplace. National company winners go on to represent Australia at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTAs), where they will compete with the best of the Asia Pacific region. In 2011 Australia had 6 APICTA winners, our best result ever. This year, the competition will be held in Bruneiin December and we hope to continue the wonderful results.
  4. Past winners tell us that winning an iAward is one of the best value marketing tools they have found and that their win has had a measurable impact on their business, so we encourage you to consider what winning an iAward could do for you.
  5. Please note these key dates. The nominations are now open for the company categories. Nominations close on 29th April, with the State company winners announced in early July.Individual nominations will open on 28th March and will close on 20th May. National Company and Individual winners will be announced on the 4th of August at our iAwards presentation and gala dinner at the Palladium Ballroom at Crown in Melbourne. This event is not just for iAwards state winners, but is the Australian ICT industry’s “night of nights” attracting up to 1000 national and international guests. As previously mentioned, once your company has nominated, your entry will be assessed by our first round panel of judges from around the country. The top entry from each state per category will be announced as the State winner. Company State winners will be then go onto participate in the second round of judging which will be held in Melbourne on 2nd and 3rd of August, where they will be given half an hour to present their entry to a panel of esteemed judges. Attendance is not mandatory, judging can take place via teleconference, however it is highly recommended. Individual winners go through a slightly different process with one phase of judging taking place online and shortlisted candidates potentially by phone if scores are too close to decide. Final winners are secretly disclosed to all nominees in advance with the final winner presented at the national awards presentations.
  6. The 2012 iAwards celebrates excellence across multiple domains, which should make it easier for nominees to identify the right category to enter. Further information is available online or in the iAwards Category Guide.
  7. To enter a nomination for the 2012 iAwards program you simply need to visit the iAwards website and register your nomination. The register button is at the top of each page. At registration you are able to select a login ID and password. You can then login using your Login Id and Password and download the nomination template. You can enter in as many categories as you like but note, there are slight differences between the nomination templates, so make sure you use the correct one for each category you are entering.Once you are happy with your completed template, lodge it online for consideration by the judging panel using your existing Login Id and Password. Please make sure that you submit your nomination form via the iAwards website by NO LATER THAN 5.00 pm AEST onWednesday 9 May 2012.Only nominations submitted in the correct nomination form will only be accepted. Please note, once you have pressed the submit button, you cannot change your entry. Please be aware that nominations received after the deadline will not be considered. The iAwards nomination fee is $330.00 for company categoriesand free for student project categories – please note that these fees are inclusive of GST.Nominations will not be accepted until payment has been received. If you or your company are submitting multiple nominations, please be advised that the nomination fees are per nomination.
  8. The process for company and individual category judging is different. Today’s session is focused on the company/group categories. To provide better opportunities for award nominees to be showcased at both the state and national level, companycategory iAward judging begins at the state and territory level, awarding state winners in each of the national iAwards categories. This phase provides state winners the opportunity to develop a higher local profile and stronger recognition in their home areas.State category winners then go on to compete at a national level, where they will present to a judging panel and compete against winners from other states and territories.Phase one judging to determine state winners, is conducted online based on your written nomination. Phase two is face to face judging and is held in Melbourne on 7th and 8th August. We encourage all state winners to travel to Melbourne for these important panel judging sessions; although alternate arrangements for teleconferences and the like can be made if you cannot travel. Then we recommend you stay on in Melbourne for the Awards presentation Ceremony and Gala Dinner to be held on the 9th August.
  9. When preparing your entry, consider it as a business or professional proposal. Aspects such as clarity, grammar and succinctness will all be noticed by the judges. Make sure your answers do directly respond to each question and provide substantiation of your claims where possible. The judges read a large number of entries, so it is also very important to stick to the word limits. The judges will read your nomination and score it against a number of criteria. It is important that you demonstrate each of these criteria in your responses in the nomination form. There is more detail on each of the judging criteria for each award category on the iAwards website.A logo (for company categories) or photo (for individuals) must be submitted with your nomination. In addition to this, you have the option to submit 5 supporting attachments with your submission. These can consist of anything from product brochures, referee statements, a video about your product or service or any other material that supports your nomination. We highly recommend you submit at least 1 photo of the nominee, or of your product or service in action with your entry. These should illustrate use of your product and if you are a finalist may be used at the gala dinner. These may also be provided to the media if you win and they ask for supporting material.
  10. The winners in each of our national company iAwards categories will go on to compete internationally in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (or the APICTA Awards) which will be held in Bruneiin December. The APICTA Awards are an international awards program which increases ICT awareness by providing networking and product benchmarking opportunities to ICT innovators and entrepreneurs in the region. The program is designed to stimulate ICT innovation and creativity, promote economic and trade relations, facilitate technology transfer, and offer business matching opportunities via exposure to venture capitalists and investors.2011 saw 6 Australian companies winning a prestigious APICTA award. We are looking forward to another successful year in 2012.
