Engaged employees are enthusiastic about their work, they are fully involved in the way an organization works and act in a way that furthers the goals of the organization; in short – they’re doing everything they can to help make a company successful. Social technologies enable companies to remove communication barriers and helping employees have a real voice in making the company better – this voice can be heard at all levels and across all geographies. Studies have shown that organizations that have ‘engaged employees’ are more profitable, have higher productivity, and significantly lower turnover. Here you can see that Social technologies go far beyond having simple conversations – they contribute to empower employees to the degree that they both have the tools, and the want to drive positive change across the company.Sources:Companies with engaged employees have 51% lower turnover, 27% less absenteeism, 18% more productivity and 12% higher profitability (Gallup Consulting "Employee Engagement, What's your Engagement Ratio?" 2008)

Twitter users send more than 350million tweets per day; in fact today that number is likely considerably higher. Why is twitter so popular? It takes a simple idea such as ‘What are you doing right now’, and through self-organization(and couple of important features like ‘following’) enables the entire ‘Twittersphere’ to self-organize into this unbelievable powerful near-real time place for information to be shared and discussed with people who may live very different lives from public individuals(like the President or a Media figure) to more discrete individuals(like you or I). This information moves so efficiently it’s allowed outlets such as ‘@BreakingNews’ to take the crown from CNN as the place to go to find out what’s happening now.
The consumer internet has evolved into the social web, where more and more time is being spent on social networks. 955 million isn’t the number of ‘users’, it’s the number of active engaged users; and even more staggering 552million users check Facebook once a day… They’re checking Facebook not just to see what others are doing, but because they organize, discuss thoughts, get advice, promote ideas. Microsoft aims not just to bring social ‘features’ into the Enterprise, but to bring Social ENGAGEMENT into the enterprise.Statistics from Facebook.com955 million monthly active users at the end of June 2012. Approximately 81% of our monthly active users are outside the U.S. and Canada.552 million daily active users on average in June 2012. 543 million monthly active users who used Facebook mobile products in June 2012.
Social isn’t just about ‘social networks’ – it’s about being able to communicate with anyone, anywhere and many other things. Skype Blog: http://blogs.skype.com/en/2012/01/international_skype-to-skype_c.html

Microsoft’s vision for social:To Transform the way we work – for the business,With a Unified Platform – for ITThis vision is based on two fundamental principles:Provide Business Value by Transforming the way we work: Making every employees more engaged, boosting team productivity, and enabling organizations to be more agile. These changes will transform the way that work gets done – Social is about putting people at the center of your business, making sure that employees, customers, partners can connect with the people and information they need to get specific tasks doneProvide IT Value with a ‘Unified Platform’: As organizations become more open and people centric it’s more important than ever for IT to have an ability to bring people together in a way that makes can enable all Enterprise Applications to benefit from the value of Social, while still maintaining key commitments around compliance, security, management.Microsoft is uniquely positioned in the social technology space as the only company that can provide both broad business value across a suite of productivity applications, while ensuring that organizations can depend on a highly governed, secure platform for people data and content.
In the newest version of Office we’ve brought more and more capabilities to the cloud and enabled a single O365 experience; you can edit a PowerPoint, save it in SkyDrive Pro, and share it with others in SharePoint. Another example is the people card – one people card regardless of where you are in Office. Our roadmap for the future of social will continue to build on this idea of enabling productivity workers to get their work done in the tools they use everyday. In the future Yammer conversations will not only be visible in the Yammer experience, but across Office in ways that will help users complete the task at hand. Our vision stretches beyond Office, and even beyond integration with other Microsoft applications like Dynamics – our goal is to help make every application in the Enterprise(Microsoft or not) able to benefit from rich social information and capabilities. As part of this vision we’ll provide a common ‘Social Layer’ that will provide one place for applications to get access to social information and services – ensuring that a post in one application can be used by another. As organizations evolve the needs for management, governance, centralized application development, and more will become even more important. We’re going to continue investing heavily in SharePoint to provide IT with a platform that they can leverage to help them both innovate quickly and provide crucial core service.
Social will transform the way that work gets done - it can: We’ve highlighted a four examples of key social scenarios that will transform the way that we work; these are only a few examples of a long list of ways that Social can bring value to the business.

Team productivity drives innovative companies, and today’s companies need to move quickly in order to compete.
