• Gaining interest (again) and respect
• Becoming more globally focused
But…
• Tool dependent
• “Social Media” driven (post-and-pray)

Before we talk more detail about any of these, I think it’s important to get a baseline understanding of sourcing. So let’s have a short discussion before we move forward and answer a simple question…
Long before the Internet was readily available, ‘sourcing’ still existed.
Sourcing has evolved over the years. What used to be a personal interaction has been replaced by extreme efficiency. But are we substituting effectiveness for time efficiency? Some would argue that sourcing can be automated. Use Bryan Starbuck’s analogy here. Then introduce LinkedIn as a good tool for sourcing.
Let’s examine LinkedIn. How important is LInkedIn to recruiting today? Bullhorn Reach recently released its 2012SOCIAL RECRUITING ACTIVITYREPORT which showed that recruiters use LinkedIn and Twitter much more than Facebook to recruit talent.
Even with LinkedIn’s office here in Singapore just opening last spring and in Japan in October, it’s still the #1 resource listed by sourcers polled throughout Asia. It was briefly blocked in China last February and reinstated days later. But there are so many other resources out there…----- Meeting Notes (3/21/12 08:35) -----Ten years ago, take out the word LinkedIn and replace it with job boards like Monster and CareerBuilder and the same thing was happening.
