At the bottom of this picture are the adapters that you need to select when ordering. These go onto the blades (you’ll never see the actual adapters as the factory will install them on the blades for you, but you need to select the adaptor you prefer – Emulex, Qlogic, Cisco VIC, Broadcom, Intel). The blades then go into the chassis and the chassis in the back has two separate Fabric Extenders (IO Modules) that provide the connectivity to the Fabric Interconnects.Up to this point (everything below the Fabric Interconnect) nothing has a management port. There is NO INTELLIGENCE in the components below the Fabric Interconect. We have taken everything out of the chassis and centralized it in the Fabric Interconnects.Every design will always have a pair of Fabric Interconnects providing 2 active-active fabrics for data forwarding. The management of the entire solution also runs on the Fabric Interconnects and is called UCS Manager. No need for a separate server – it is build into the solution, not an afterthought. And that is UCS.
