6. Captain William Hobson Hobson arrived in New Zealand on the 29 th Jan 1840. Hobson was the governor – his job was to get the Maori chiefs to sign a Treaty with British. A letter of invitation was sent out to Maori to meet with Hobson. PROBLEM: he did not have any examples of how to make a treaty!!! So he called on James Busby… Fill in your history road.

8. James Busby Hobson wrote one draft treaty but… James Busby (he was in charge of making sure the British people behaved themselves) DID NOT think what Hobson had written was good enough. So he changed it. On the 3 rd of Feb 1840, Busby drafted a Treaty. PROBLEM: it’s only in English! So they called on Henry Williams Fill in your history road.
