Signing the ‘Bangkok Declaration’
These are the five foreign ministers of five countries who
met up for the ASEAN 'Bangkok Declaration'. With the
signing of the declaration, ASEAN was formed.

 The ASEAN Flag represents a
stable, peaceful, united and
dynamic ASEAN.
 The colours of the Flag - blue, red,
white, and yellow - represent the
main colours of the flags of all the
ASEAN Member States:
* Blue represents peace and
stability;
* Red depicts courage and
dynamism;
* White shows purity;
* Yellow symbolises prosperity
 The stalks of padi represent the
dream of ASEAN’s Founding
Fathers for an ASEAN comprising
all the countries in Southeast Asia
bound together in friendship and
solidarity.
 The circle represents the unity of
ASEAN.
 To speed up economic growth, social progress,
and cultural development among its members.
 Protection of the peace and stability of the
region.
 Provide opportunities for the member
countries to discuss differences peacefully.
 Promote ASEAN identity.
 Preserve Southeast Asia as a Nuclear Weapon-
Free Zone and free of all other weapons of
mass destruction.
1. Mutual respect for the independence, sovereignty, equality,
territorial integrity, and national identity of all nations;
2. The right of every State to lead its national existence free
from external interference, subversion or coercion;
3. Non-interference in the internal affairs of one another;
4. Settlement of differences or disputes by peaceful manner;
5. Renunciation of the threat or use of force; and
6. Effective cooperation among themselves.

 An Outward-Looking ASEAN
 A zone of peace, freedom and neutrality.
 Established a peace and stable Southeast Asia
where its nation are at peace with itself and
conflict have been eliminated, through abiding
law of justice and the rule of law.
 Territorial and other disputes are resolved by
peaceful means.
 Envision the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation
functioning as a binding code of conduct for
our governments and people.
 Free from nuclear weapons and other weapons
mass destruction.
 Rich human and natural resources contributing
to our development and shared prosperity.
 ASEAN Regional forum to established means
of confidence building and preventive
diplomacy and promoting conflict resolution.
 Our mountains, rivers and seas no longer
divide us but link us together in friendship,
cooperation and commerce.
 We see ASEAN as an effective force for peace,
justice and moderation in ASIA pacific and the
world.
 Enhance ASEAN economic cooperation
through economic strategies.
 Sustain ASEAN high economic performance.
 Commit ourselves to moving towards closer
cohesion and economic integration.
 Create stable, prosperous and highly
competitive ASEAN Economic Region in which
there is a free flow of goods, capital, services
and investment to reduce poverty.

The Common Effective Preferential Tariff Scheme
Apply tariff rate of
0-5%
1. Temporary Exclusions
-refer to products for which tariffs will
ultimately lowered to 0-5%
2. Sensitive Agricultural Products
-include commodities such as rice. ASEAN
members have until 2010 to reduce tariffs
levels 0-5%
3. General Exceptions
-refer to products which ASEAN member deems
necessary for the national security, public morals, the
protection of human, animal or plant life and health,
and protection of article of artistic, historic, or
archeological value.

  • 6. Signing the ‘Bangkok Declaration’ These are the five foreign ministers of five countries who met up for the ASEAN 'Bangkok Declaration'. With the signing of the declaration, ASEAN was formed.

  • 11.  The ASEAN Flag represents a stable, peaceful, united and dynamic ASEAN.  The colours of the Flag - blue, red, white, and yellow - represent the main colours of the flags of all the ASEAN Member States: * Blue represents peace and stability; * Red depicts courage and dynamism; * White shows purity; * Yellow symbolises prosperity  The stalks of padi represent the dream of ASEAN’s Founding Fathers for an ASEAN comprising all the countries in Southeast Asia bound together in friendship and solidarity.  The circle represents the unity of ASEAN.
  • 12.  To speed up economic growth, social progress, and cultural development among its members.  Protection of the peace and stability of the region.  Provide opportunities for the member countries to discuss differences peacefully.  Promote ASEAN identity.  Preserve Southeast Asia as a Nuclear Weapon- Free Zone and free of all other weapons of mass destruction.

  • 17.  Free from nuclear weapons and other weapons mass destruction.  Rich human and natural resources contributing to our development and shared prosperity.  ASEAN Regional forum to established means of confidence building and preventive diplomacy and promoting conflict resolution.  Our mountains, rivers and seas no longer divide us but link us together in friendship, cooperation and commerce.  We see ASEAN as an effective force for peace, justice and moderation in ASIA pacific and the world.
  • 18.  Enhance ASEAN economic cooperation through economic strategies.  Sustain ASEAN high economic performance.  Commit ourselves to moving towards closer cohesion and economic integration.  Create stable, prosperous and highly competitive ASEAN Economic Region in which there is a free flow of goods, capital, services and investment to reduce poverty.
