1. Important Issues Related to Designing and Creating Material/ Activities
Why should we design activities for our students?
Advantages
The textbook doesn’t fullfil the students’ needs
Presenting things in a new way (more personalized)
Creating your own material and adapting to students’ levels
You need to listen to your students opinion about what they want and what they think is important
You need to motivate your students and when you choose something specific for them, it must be
something that really touches them, that motivates them
We are talking about activities not materials- Moon page 88
Drawbacks
Time consuming
Teacher needs to have experience
Expensive: consuming paper and causing environmental demages
What is important to take into consideration when you create materials?
Goal
Input
Procedures
Outcome
Teacher roles
Learner roles
Organization
Make something that lasts long like: flashcards and board games, for instance, and laminate things.
Make big things that can be seen by everybody in class
The most important thing is not the material but how this material can help your student
Provide the students material which can help them to develop the language
Material which can be done by all the students
If they have learned some topic you, as a teacher, needs to motivate them to use the new language inside
and outside classroom
The activities can be simple in terms of material and rich in terms of outcome.
