Social media affordances provide new ways for people to connect including reading customized content feeds, chatting through instant messaging and microblogging, discussing through blogs and social networks, meeting through videoconferencing and virtual worlds, sharing various media types, collaborating on wikis and within communities, and staying in touch by sharing location and status updates. Some predictions for the future include organizations fully embracing social media, social networks becoming more interconnected, authentication converging to reduce password hassles using real identities, and most experiences becoming mobile.
