2. This lesson plan is designed for teachers at the
kindergarten level.
The purpose of this lesson is to refresh the
teacher’s minds on Bloom’s Taxonomy and
how to ask higher level thinking questions in
order to develop higher level critical thinking
skills in kindergarten students.
The story, “The Three Little Pigs” will be used
to demonstrate various higher level thinking
questions to ask kindergarten students after
the story is shared with them.
3. The students for this lesson will be the teachers.
The students will review Bloom’s Taxonomy and be able to identify the
six levels of cognition.
The students will apply the levels of cognition to questions that are asked
about the story, “The Three Little Pigs.”
The students will develop their own higher level thinking questions for
other stories they read to kindergarten students.
6. Typical questions you may ask kindergarteners after
the story:
How many pigs were in the story?
What characters were in the story?
What were the houses built out of?
These are lower level questions and do not bring about
further thoughts or questions from the students.
7. The next two slides are examples
of higher level thinking
questions to ask?
Do you think the little pigs are
alike? In what ways? In what
ways are they different?
Do they always do things the
same way?
Do they like the same things?
8. These questions evoke more
questions and more thoughts
from the kindergarten students.
Do you think the first two pigs
would have built their houses
the same way if they knew a
wolf was coming?
What would they do to make the
houses different?
What if the wolf was not
hungry, would that make the
story different? How?
9. Listen to the story of the Three Bears and formulate
three higher level thinking questions of your own
using Bloom’s Taxonomy.
Good Luck!
