Purpose of the slide:Establish our viability to show that we are a no-risk partner for the future. Say “There is a lot on this slide and I’m sure that you can read it faster than I could comment it. What I want to explain is how or business model is different from most companies” [Explain only the “How we’re doing it”]Key themes:The most comprehensive data, application and process integration product suite in the marketHigh customer adoption due to disruptive open source modelStrong momentum - rapid bookings growth, solid investor backing and global networkOver 2,200 paying customers including 1,600 active Customers love the product (high renewal rates) and buy more via cross-sell / up-sell (strong growth in bookings from recurring customers) Note: There will be a slide in the Pick & Choose Section that will show how Gartner and Forrester reports support our claim that we are the open source leader
Purpose of the slide:People and companies are reluctant to change. The only way to break the status quo is to convince them that they have no choice, that the changes happening in the market force them to re-evaluate their current solutions/providers. This is not about Talend, this is our perception of the market.Key themes:The choices made 10 years ago for integration solutions were great at the time but are not addressing the key secular trends that are reshaping the enterprise software marketThese trends relate to the convergence of all types of integration, the emergence of big data and the way enterprises want to adopt solutions todayTraditional data management market is being revolutionized by three strong secular trendsThe market wants a 360 degrees integration that covers data, process and applications integration without forgetting Data Quality which isincreasingly becoming an integral part of the solutionBig data is significantly disrupting status quo in the data management market - incumbents are unsuccessfully trying to adapt legacy solutions to deal with thisConsumerization of IT / need for faster time to deployment / need for greater modularity are leading to open source and other disruptive business models gaining mindshare in enterprises
Purpose of the slide:Present the first big change in the Integration Market: CONVERGENCEDescribe the 3 layers existing in most companies’ information system.Remember, this is not (yet) about Talend solutions, this is about changes in the market that will impact the prospect’s company, no matter what.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________The backbone of modern companies is the Information System. It can be structured in 3 layers:In the middle there is the Application level: Software that can be developed in-house or by many different vendors. Those applications can be installed on premises or hosted in the Cloud like SalesForce and others. These applications rely on data that can be seen at the lower level. They can be stores in many different heterogeneous formats like relational databases, flat files, XML databases…Finally, on the top layer the employees of the company exchange information between them and interact with the different applications. These 2 types of exchange follow a process that is too rarely formalized.
Purpose of the slide:Present the first big change in the Integration Market: CONVERGENCEDescribe the data integration layerRemember, this is not (yet) about Talend solutions, this is about changes in the market that will impact the prospect’s company, no matter what.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Talking points:It is necessary at the data layer to connect the different heterogeneous systems either for batch exchanges or for real-time synchronization. Those connections remove the burden of re-keying the data (which is prone to create errors) and allow smoother and faster flow of data exchange Operational Integration). The formats being heterogeneous, it’s always necessary to transform and enrich the data on the fly in a process that can be complex. Most of the time, the direct access to the data of the hosted applications is not allowed. The data storage is a black box. However the vendors of these hosted applications offer ways to access their data through their API.The frequency of synchronization between those systems can be very different, from once a day to thousand times per second for real-time applications.Data Integration cannot be successful without data qualityThe level of quality of the data is also very variable from one system to the other. It’s very frequent to find obsolete, incomplete or wrong data. There are also duplicates, bad formats (like for emails or phone #), etc. Moving data without fixing, improving, and enriching the data flowing between applications and data stores does not solve the problem faced in enterprises. Designing data flows and transformations between systems need to incorporate the cleansing of data, otherwise injecting poor quality data into a DWH or applications results in poor decision making (garbage in, garbage out), and lower productivity.
Purpose of the slide:Present the first big change in the Integration Market: CONVERGENCEDescribe the Application integration layerRemember, this is not (yet) about Talend solutions, this is about changes in the market that will impact the prospect’s company, no matter what.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Talking points:The different systems can also be connected at the Application layer level using an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). When an ESB is in place any application can connect to it by exposing the incoming and outgoing message formats as services. The applications can then exchange data with others by sending messages to the bus. The applications that have subscribed to the publisher automatically receive those messages and can process them. This architecture masks the different technologies or locations of the applications. An application can be replaced by another one in a transparent manner respect the same “contract” i.e. the same format for the incoming and outgoing messages.ESB is the solution of choice for very high frequency exchanges and/or if the need for security is critical. It is also recommended to cover exchanges within the “extended company”: from headquarter to subsidiaries, customers and suppliers.
Purpose of the slide:Present the first big change in the Integration Market: CONVERGENCEDescribe the top layer: people interaction with the information system and process Remember, this is not (yet) about Talend solutions, this is about changes in the market that will impact the prospect’s company, no matter what.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Talking points:Employees use application and data available on a daily basis. Their interaction is controlled by different processes although they are rarely formalized.Auditing and describing these processes and the actors (whether people or systems), their roles and their rights is an important step to better understand the information flow within the company. It’s a necessary step before to start any business or system optimization.Once formalized, part or all the process can be automatized. By connecting the ESB directly to the data layer it is possible to quickly improve the whole process and make it more reliable. Improvement at the process level has positive impact on all parts of the company especially regarding the responsiveness and the quality of the decision making process.
Purpose of the slide:Present the first big change in the Integration Market: CONVERGENCESummarize that Integration Convergence is the interconnection of the 3 layers existing in most companies’ information system.Remember, this is not (yet) about Talend solutions, this is about changes in the market that will impact the prospect’s company, no matter what.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Talking points:As mentioned earlier, bringing together the 3 types of integration is one of the 3 major trends seen in the market today. Companies want a 360 degrees integration that covers data, process and applications integration without forgetting Data Quality which isincreasingly becoming an integral part of the solution.
Purpose of the slide:Present the 2nd big change in the Integration Market: Big DataRemember, this is not (yet) about Talend solutions, this is about changes in the market that will impact the prospect’s company, no matter what.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Key themes: The Big Data RevolutionThe volume, variety and complexity of data is growing explosivelyTo serve the needs of customers for the next decade, next generation integration platforms must be designed & architected with these requirement in mind.Processing of data needs to be flexible based on customer’s use cases: eithercentralized for simple batch jobs OR distributed and parallelized for high volume complex transformations. Processing of data needs to be cost effective by leveraging and optimizing an organization’s full IT infrastructure (ELT for example) AND/OR external cloud platforms to take advantage of elasticity.New technologies for Big Data like NoSQL or Hadoop are not compatible with existing DatabasesIn the last 10-15 years companies have made massive investments in DW and relational databases that are not compatible with the Big Data technologies. Data integration technologies today need to address all different database and processing technologies that will co-exist as customers will need to leverage their past investments with new emerging Big Data technologies.Big Data is inevitable but relatively new and apt to change so any technology must also be Adaptable to knew technologies, architectures and topologies.Animportant attribute of this market trend is the need for scalability that Big Data necessitates, whether scaling up or scaling down based on the business needs. Note: Don’t forget garbage in, garbage out exponentially with Big Data. Therefore Data Quality is more important than ever with Big Data.
Purpose of the slide:Present the 3rd big change in the Integration Market: Consumerization of ITRemember, this is not (yet) about Talend solutions, this is about changes in the market that will impact the prospect’s company, no matter what.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Key themes:Economic barriers to adoption of incumbent technologies are too high and time to productivity is too long.Consumers are used to easy access to their personal software applications (like the AppStores) and are pushing IT organizations to provide the same service in their company. The cost to start new projects were prohibitive making them incompatible with a lot of use cases (e.g. departmental use cases, operational data integration use cases,…)The market needs much lighter weight models to get full next gen data integration deeply embedded into the technology stack. Quick ROI needs to be demonstrated on smaller grass-root projects which are then expanded across organizational boundaries. Incremental adoption is key to minimize risks.MDM and SOA initiatives, which were classically launched top-down and enterprise-wide, often fail due to dis-alignment across functional departments. Organizations need to be able to deploy a next gen integration platform progressively and by pieces to surmount organization and political boundaries.Note: Consumerization is the growing tendency for new information technology to emerge first in the consumer market and then spread into business and government organizations. The emergence of consumer markets as the primary driver of information technology innovation is seen as a major IT industry shift, as large business and government organizations dominated the early decades of computer usage and development.
Purpose of the slide:Introduce Talend’s answers to the 3 shifts in the market previously described. You should go quickly through this slide because:Each of the 3 main points (SOLUTION – TECHNOLOGY – MODEL ) will be seen in detail in the the next slideThis slide will be repeated at the end of the corporate presentation, as a summary/reminderTalking points:Talend realized and embraced these major trends in the integration market to provide a unique Solution built on Next Gen Technology presented through a disruptive Business Model. We will address each of those 3 elements in the following slides.
Purpose of the slide:This is about the 3rd concept of the trilogy SOLUTION – TECHNOLOGY – MODEL as seen in the “Next Generation Solutions” slide. The focus is on how open source benefits to our customers ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________From day one Talend has adopted an open source model and as you can see with those numbers we now benefit from a very strong Talend Open Source Community. Our goal here is to explain how we pass on those benefits to you as customers.First of all, this allow us to lower barriers to adoption:our offering is easy to purchase, easy to use and easy to deploy Secondly Talend users have the flexibility to modify the source code to meet their specific business needs, which is impossible with existing commercial products. You can create your own components – or leverage the Community’s latest additions.Third, the open source model allows us to leverage the existing standards (as seen in the previous slides) and receive the voluntary help of thousands of community members for testing, translation and enhancements. The benefits are a rapid and cost effective product development as well an innovation advantage over traditional Closed-Source alternatives.
Purpose of the slide:This is the 2nd slide about the 3rd concept of the trilogy SOLUTION – TECHNOLOGY – MODEL as seen in the “Next Generation Solutions” slide. The focus is on our pricing: Affordable, Flexible and Predictable.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________We have also chosen a disruptive pricing. We’ve seen in the previous slide why Talend could offer a better value through leveraging existing standards and the contributions on the Open Source Community. And that makes it more affordable for you.The pay as you go approach is one of the greatest advantages of the subscription model. You pay for the use of our solution when you need them for just as long as you need them. Our prices scale with the service provided (design-time or runtime/production) and according to the service delivered and not according to data architecture implemented. That makes our pricing much more predictable
