Introduction
Bank AL Habib was incorporated as a Public Limited Company in October
1991
Started banking operations in 1992
In 2005, Bank AL Habib began offering internet banking
In 2006, Bank AL Habib became partners with Visa card
It was under the privatization policy the Dawood Habib Group
was the first to be granted permission by the Government of
Pakistan to setup a commercial bank.
It is a venture of the Habib Group, which owns 50% of the shares - 20 %

1-Work Specialization.
 In Bank Al Habib all the employees are specialized in
their own fields. The job description of each and every
employee is separate. All the workers have the basic
knowledge of general banking. So the individual
employees in the Bank are doing the separate activities
to the other employees. But all the employees have the
knowledge of other departments because of the proper
training job rotation.
2-Departmentalization
 In the Bank Al Habib Ltd the jobs are grouped
according to the functions performed. It means, there
is a functional departmentalization in the Bank Al
Habib. Every department has its own separate
function to perform. The jobs in Bank Al Habib also
grouped on the basis of the geography. There is a
Chief Manager for each main branch in the territory.
So the jobs in Bank are grouped on the basis of
functions as well as on the basis of the area.

 Advances department is one of the most
sensitive and important departments of the bank.
The major portion of the profit is earned through
this department. The job of this department is to
make proposals about the loans.

department. Remittance can take place in four different

Risk management
 Risk Management is considered to be an
important focus in the Bank AL-Habib setup
although strong Reserve base provides some
space to breathe. Significant risk reduction
measures are taken to ensure the ongoing health
of the bank’s financing portfolio
Accounts/Finance
department
 The finance department in Bank Al Habib is
functioning computerized as well as manual. . It
handles each and every transaction is being
made into the bank, and control expenses and
allocation of funds through appropriation of
accounts.
IT department
 The IT department of Bank Al Habib comprises of 2
sub-divisions: the Operations division, which
conducts user training sessions on the various
applications, including the retail banking package
Bank Plus, payroll applications, remittance and
demand drafts systems, and personal desktop
applications. It is also responsible for the hardware
and software maintenance of the various systems of
the bank. The Development division is responsible for
software development and maintenance.

Span of Control
 The number of employees that a manager can
efficiently and effectively manage is called the
Span of Control. In the Bank Al Habib the span
for each staff manager is about 4-5 staff
members on average. This span of control of the
Bank has made it to achieve the organizational
goals more efficiently and effectively.
Centralization and
Decentralization
 Bank Al Habib is an organization following
centralized planning and controlling. Planning is
the responsibilities of the senior management
group more particularly the board of directors,
and to check any deviation from the prescribed
plan, there is head office under them.
Formalization
 Bank Al Habib is more formalized, more
centralized in terms of planning and controlling,
reasonable span of control for each manager, a
unity of command and departmentalized. And
this is the structure of the branch in terms of its
authorities and responsibilities of each of the
department
Discipline
 The degree to which employees obey the rules
and follow instructions of the organization is
called discipline. In Bank Al Habib employees
follow the instructions and obey every rules and
regulations. Every employee comes in time and
remains busy full time in activities to smoothly
running the work.

instructions of top managers it means employees are not free
to take decisions on the basis of their own knowledge,
experience or feelings. They can take decisions only on the
basis of command or instructions of upper level of
management.
