Titanic
Sydney Fox
• The Titanic was a famous British passenger
  ship.
• It struck an iceberg and sank in the North
  Atlantic Ocean in 1912.
It was traveling from
Southamton, England
  to NewYorkCity.
• The Titanic brushed up against an iceberg
  about 11:40pm on April14.
.

• The hit caused a number of small cracks in
  the side of the ship.
• Also the seams or places where parts were
joined came apart in this area.
• Seawater flooded through the front of the
  ship.
• About 21 hours later the Titanic broke in
  two and sank.
• The Titanic had only enough life boats for
about half of 2,200 passengers and crew.
• The first rescue ship, the Carpathia, arrived
on the scene a couple of hours after the
  Titanic sank.
• The Carpathia saved 705 people, mostly
women and children. A total of 1,517
  people died.
• The Titanic was the largest and grandest
  ship of this time.
• Many people believed that it was
  unsinkable.
• Studies of the disaster showed that the
cold Atlantic waters made the steel ships
body brittle or easy to break.
• And the ship was traveling too fast in an
area where there was danger of icebergs.
• The Titanic was going at to top speed when
  the iceberg was first seen.
• In 1985 a team of French and America
scientists found the wreck of the Titanic.
• It lay in two sections about 400 miles
(650kilometers) southeast of what is now
new found land and Labrador Canada.
