2. CHEMICAL WEAPONS
 Chemical weapons were used to injure and kill entrenched
defenders. The killing capacity of gas was limited-only 4% of combat
deaths were caused by gas.

4. TYPE OF GASES
 1914> Tear Gas: The French army was the first to employ gas, using 26
mm grenades filled with tear gas.
 1915> Lethal Gas: Germany fired 18,000 artillery shells containing
liquid xylyl bromide tear gas on Russian positions on the Rawka River
during the batlle of Bolimov in January of 1915. Around 36,600 tons of
phosgene were manufactured: Germany-18,100 tons; France-15,700 tons;
Great Britain-1,400 tons.
 1917>Mustard Gas: Most widely reported and most effective gas.
Introduced by Germany in July of 1917 prior to the Third Battle of Tpres.

6. MUSTARD GAS
 As it acts on any exposed, moist skin. Once coming in contact
with skin, it produces large burn-like blisters. And worse, it can nastily
hand about in low areas for hours, even days, after being dispersed.
Pure sulfur mustard is colorless.
