2. What is Intradiscal Electrothermal Annuloplasty
Intradiscal Electrothermal Annuloplasty (IDET) is a new and minimal invasive
technique for the treatment of discongenic lower back pain originating directly from
an intervertebral disc. Discongenic pain is different from the pain arising from
herniated or ruptured disc because in discongenic pain, pain originates from within
the disc and not from surrounding nerves and structures as that is herniated disc pain.
Discongenic pain is also concentrated at the disc and does not radiate down to the
legs. It is an alternative to spinal fusion and lumbar disc replacement surgery in few
cases.
