eLearning refers to teaching and learning with technology. At TMG, eLearning includes: ,[object Object]
Blended learning environments where learning takes place both face-to-face and online
Online distance courses
Simulations
Mobile learningBlended and online courses have the same credit value as traditional classroom courses and have the same fees. The only difference is the way you learn and the freedom you'll have! What is eLearning?
Online learning is a different experience from the face-to-face environment most of us are familiar with. Basic characteristics of online learning include: ,[object Object]
Studies can take place anywhere as long as the learner has access to the computer with Internet access.
Most online learning consists of a combination of web pages ("content"), communication tools (e-mail, bulletin boards, chat rooms), quizzes and tests (usually online), supplementary readings (either sent via regular mail services or available to print online), and assignments that you submit via e-mail or post onto a discussion board.
Depending on the course, an instructor and/or tutor may guide you through the course and evaluate your progress.
Most learning events can take place at your own pace and on your own time, although there may be deadlines for certain assignments. Characteristics of E-learning
There is no instructor in front of you, so there may be some delay in getting responses to questions, for example. However, you can read the material as often as you want, rather than seeing or hearing it only once in the classroom. And you can spend the time you find is best for you on the material rather than being bound to the pace of the group. If you work or prefer to study during the evenings or weekends, you can set your own schedule. This makes online learning useful for many shift workers and those with other commitments that make it difficult to attend classes during regular daytime hours. The most important thing to remember is that online learning requires motivation and effort on your part. As with most things in life, the value derived from it is directly proportional to the effort you put into it! Think about the differences If there is anything you do not understand, be sure to let your trainer know. Trainers have the experience to help bring the material to life and provide you with valuable examples from the security industry. When you start working as a guard, you, too, will gain important on-the-job experience.
Preparing For eLearning Where You Learn: A comfortable and efficient study space is important in online learning. Your computer and the area immediately surrounding it is your physical classroom, along with the virtual classroom provided by us. If you are studying at home, it is important to have a good chair and desk to work at, along with a properly functioning monitor, speakers or headphones and good lighting. If you are studying at work you similarly need to have a proper workstation set up along with a place to store your course materials between study sessions. Plan for this with your supervisor before the course so you will be ready when you sign on. If you are using other workspaces such as a learning centre, library or another community resource, sort out your bookings in advance to ensure you have access when you need it.
