Facebook partnered with CNN on inauguration day to show live feeds of Facebook status updates. Over 2 million status updates were posted through the CNN.com Live Facebook feed with 4,000 status updates per minute on average and a huge spike of 8,500 updates when President Obama began his speech. CNN also has shows that feature tweets and text messages.
Every 4 th of July, we have to wonder: will it rain out the fireworks? In the past, Grassroots productions would have to let people know through radio stations or television stations. But if folks were already there, they didn’t have tvs or radios with them for last-minute info. TV news is at 6pm and fireworks are usually around 9pm. This year, they used Twitter and got the word out ahead of time that they were tweeting via the News & Record. Since many people use twitter on their mobile phones, they could find out the status through updates throughout they day and into the evening. They made it fun with haiku contents and also put updates on a blog with some behind-the-scenes info and photos.
