Role Definition:  Presentation Coach     The role of the Presentation Coach, like any other coach, is to help position the team to perform at its best and get results.  The team in this case is the full Strategic Planning Committee and each of the Sub-Committees.  In September, the Chairperson of each Sub-Committee will present one of the initiatives to the NASFT Board of Directors.  In large part, the Chairperson’s success will be a function of the merits of the initiative. But, quality of presentation also counts significantly in influencing a Board to make a positive decision.  We want to help the presenters win by making the best possible presentation.   Your job as Presentation Coach is to give them feedback that will improve their presentation.  On June 13, each Sub-Committee presentation will be 10 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q & A with the “mock” Board.  Then the Presentation Coaches will have five minutes to caucus and 10 minutes to discuss the presentation and provide feedback to the Sub-Committees.

Role Definition:  Mock Board Member It is the NASFT Board of Directors who will ultimately decide whether to approve and fund each of the initiatives put forth by the Strategic Planning Committee.  In your role as a “mock” Board Member, you need to satisfy yourself that you understand the features and implications of each initiative sufficiently to vote on it.  This education process is usually accomplished through a presentation followed by questions and answers.  On June 13, each Sub-Committee will have 10 minutes to present their initiative to the “mock” Board of Directors.  Each presentation will be followed by a 10 minute Q & A by this “mock” Board.

Role Definition:  Mock Board Member   For this role, think of yourself as a sparring partner, there to help a boxer get ready for a big match.  Your job is to ask the kind of difficult questions the presenter is likely to face in front of the Board.   As such, you will need to prepare.  On the yellow sheet(s) enclosed, jot down in advance the 4 or 5 questions you have about each initiative (for which you have been assigned the role of “mock” Board Member).  On the enclosed blue sheet, add any questions that arise during the presentations.  We will collect both of  these sheets at the meeting.

  • 3. Role Definition: Presentation Coach     The role of the Presentation Coach, like any other coach, is to help position the team to perform at its best and get results. The team in this case is the full Strategic Planning Committee and each of the Sub-Committees. In September, the Chairperson of each Sub-Committee will present one of the initiatives to the NASFT Board of Directors. In large part, the Chairperson’s success will be a function of the merits of the initiative. But, quality of presentation also counts significantly in influencing a Board to make a positive decision. We want to help the presenters win by making the best possible presentation.   Your job as Presentation Coach is to give them feedback that will improve their presentation. On June 13, each Sub-Committee presentation will be 10 minutes, followed by a 10 minute Q & A with the “mock” Board. Then the Presentation Coaches will have five minutes to caucus and 10 minutes to discuss the presentation and provide feedback to the Sub-Committees.

Role Definition: Mock Board Member It is the NASFT Board of Directors who will ultimately decide whether to approve and fund each of the initiatives put forth by the Strategic Planning Committee. In your role as a “mock” Board Member, you need to satisfy yourself that you understand the features and implications of each initiative sufficiently to vote on it. This education process is usually accomplished through a presentation followed by questions and answers. On June 13, each Sub-Committee will have 10 minutes to present their initiative to the “mock” Board of Directors. Each presentation will be followed by a 10 minute Q & A by this “mock” Board.

  • 8. Role Definition: Mock Board Member   For this role, think of yourself as a sparring partner, there to help a boxer get ready for a big match. Your job is to ask the kind of difficult questions the presenter is likely to face in front of the Board.   As such, you will need to prepare. On the yellow sheet(s) enclosed, jot down in advance the 4 or 5 questions you have about each initiative (for which you have been assigned the role of “mock” Board Member). On the enclosed blue sheet, add any questions that arise during the presentations. We will collect both of these sheets at the meeting.
  • 9. Questions in Advance of Meeting Use this sheet to record in advance the 4 or 5 questions you have about each initiative for which you have been assigned the role of “mock” Board Member. Refer to the Role Definition for help in formulating the questions. It is important that you record these questions on this sheet before the meeting . The staff will collect these sheets after the meeting and we need to distinguish between questions you would have in general and questions that arise specifically from the presentations.                                         Use this sheet to record the questions that arise during each presentation for which you play the role of “mock” Board Member. Use a separate sheet for each presentation. Refer to the Role Definition for help in formulating the questions. It is important that you record these questions on this sheet The staff will collect these sheets after the meeting and we need to distinguish between questions you would have in general and questions that arise specifically from the presentations.
