}  P.: "to make personal or individual"

(m-w.com)
}  "P. involves using technology to accommodate
the differences between
individuals." (wikipedia.com)
}  Problem: Television nowadays is not
personalized
◦  No integration of personalized services
◦  No Web 2.0 integration
◦  General: No integration in systems that distinguish
between users and not only customers
8.-10. November 2010Sebastian Schumann / MoMM 2010 5
}  Personalization requires from the system a
full understanding of the
◦  users
◦  services and
◦  content
}  It can be achieved only if the system can
identify its users
}  User interface presentation, services and their
behavior, content recommendation, search
and content presentation has to be adapted

}  Basic services usually use presence to
observe the actual state of the service
◦  current channel
◦  state of VoD and watched content
}  More advanced integration needed to
aggregate information not only by UE updates
but also directly from IPTV functional
elements
◦  internal state, service state or service action data

◦  Presence identifies users, profiling suggests scenarios
}  User Generated Content
◦  Sharing content
◦  "Discuss" it with online parties
}  Content Recommendation
◦  Advisory based on user behavior
◦  Presence, profiling
8.-10. November 2010Sebastian Schumann / MoMM 2010 10
}  Content bookmarks
◦  Markers in user profile
}  Targeted advertising
◦  Target group or individuals based on behavior
◦  Profiling, grouping
All mentioned points require the identification
of the actual user behind the TV set.
8.-10. November 2010Sebastian Schumann / MoMM 2010 11
}  NGN based IPTV first improvement of limited
proprietary solutions
◦  Standardized control and media delivery
◦  UPSF, RACS/NASS
}  NGN IMS based IPTV with unified service
