In the flipped classroom,
“what the teacher says” can be an
online video, a podcast, a song, a
reading from a book, etc.
Any kind of input!

52. “What is the best use of
my face-to-face class
time?”
– Jonathan Bergmann
54. By Jonathan Bergmann
Well, instead of calling it the flipped class, I now think of
it as flipped learning. All this said and I think there are a
few key unifying themes of flipped learning:
Flipped Learning transfers the ownership of the learning to the
students.
Flipped Learning personalizes learning for all students
Flipped Learning gives teachers time to explore deeper learning
opportunities and pedagogies with their students (PBL, CBL,
UDL, Mastery, Inquiry, etc)
Flipped Learning makes learning (not teaching) the center of the
classroom.
Flipped Learning maximizes the face to face time in the classroom.
56. Allow students to move at their
own pace.
Allow students to be assessed
at their own pace.
Allow students to design
experiences and assessments
that demonstrate their mastery
of the content.
74. Tricks
Create a Google Form at the
beginning of the
year to ask students for their
email addresses, phone
numbers, ability to text, free
data, technology access, etc.
Ask for parent/guardian emails
and phone numbers too!
101. Video videos
Over the years I've had
hosted on
TeacherTube, SchoolTube, Vi
meo, YouTube, Google
Docs/Drive, Dropbox, Mobile
Me (now defunct) and Edlio

my promotion of this product.
Camtasia for Mac was a great buy for me (make sure
to find the “Education Pricing.” Lots of bells and
whistles. Lots of TechSmith tutorials. There is a free
30-day Trial.
Many “Flippers” say that Camtasia has enhanced their
ability to create successful videos and screencast.
