Lucia is teaching Anna self-defense techniques, including how to injure a man by crushing his pinky finger. The women then discuss business over espresso. Anna and Carmela argue over a past failed job while Francesca claims she had no involvement. Vincenza intervenes and reveals she lost a toe during the last job, silencing the group. Vincenza redirects them to the task at hand, opening a metal box containing baking supplies.

Lucia’s hand reaches in to grab Anna’s hand.
ANNA
(Frightened and concerned)
No! You’re going to
hurt me!
Anna’s hand gets out of the way of Lucia’s hand.
LUCIA
(Delicately)
Me hurt you, no, no, no.
Come on just give me your
hand.
ANNA(O.C.)
(Hesitently)
Ok, fine show me.
Anna give’s Lucia her hand.
LUCIA
(Kindly)
Gratzia. All right so you
ask the bad man to give you
his hand.
ANNA
(Sarcastically)
What kind of criminal is

(Angered)
Did I tell you to talk, no,
so stata zite. (Shut up in
Italian) Ok so you put your
hand on his like this.
(Lucia demonstrates)
Then you pull up on his little baby
finger crushing it.
There is a pause then Lucia pushes up on Anna’s baby
finger crushing it.
ANNA
(Screaming)
Ah!
Anna screams until Lucia lets go of her. Lucia lets
Anna go after Francesca and Carmela fully enter the
room and sit around the table.
LUCIA
(Exhausted)
(Shakes herself off)
Ciao.
FRANCESCA
Ciao.
CARMELA
Ciao.
Anna picks herself up off the table and is breathing
heavily.
ANNA
(Exhausted)
Ciao.
LUCIA
I’ll get the espresso.

Lucia goes over to the stove grabs the espresso and
pours it for everyone. Lucia then sits down.
CARMELA
(Seriously)
Alright let’s get down to
business do we have everything
we need for the job.
ANNA
I got all my stuff set up and
ready to go.
CARMELA
That’s what I like to hear I want
things to be quick and clean.
FRANCESCA
(Sternly)
It better be quick and clean.
We don’t want to deal with the
problem we had last time.
ANNA
(Excitedly)
Why do you have to bring that
up! I thought we agreed to never
speak of it again.
FRANCESCA
(cleverly)
I’m just saying you were no Don
Wan that day.
ANNA
(Angry)
It was Carmela she never puts
things in the right place.
Anna gets up angrily and looks down at everyone.

Carmela gets up and puts her hands on her waist.
Francesca then stands up.
FRANCESCA

reliable to make sure the job
gets done right.
ANNA
Oh please you’re always afraid
to cut into them.
(Mocking Francesca)
I don’t want to get my shirt
dirty.
A knife is seen cutting through flesh.
FRANCESCA
(Loud and angry)
You’ve gone too far Tortola!
CARMELA
You two really know how to
ruin a perfectly good day of
chopping and slicing and
beating…
Anna cuts her off. A knife is then seen again slicing
a toe off of a foot.
ANNA
(Angry)
You!
(Anna points at Carmela)
Shut your mouth.

(Angry)
No! You all shut up! You
Should all be ashamed of
yourselves.
Vincenza lifts her leg and bangs it on the table
revealing that she is missing a toe. All the other
women stare in stunned silence at Vincenza.
VINCENZA
(Authoritatively)
I should be the one yelling.
Look what happened to me I’ll
never be the same without that
toe, it was my favourite toe,
perfect it was perfect.
Ashamed, all of you.
Vinenza is staring all of them down and shaking her
hand at them in disappointment. The other women stare
at her in fear and embarrassment. Vincenza puts her
leg down and sits back in the chair.
VINCENZA
(Refreshed)
Alright then, let’s get back to
what we are here for.
Vincenza picks up a metal box off the floor and slams
it on the table. She then opens the box up to reveal
baking supplies.
