2. SG Haze Rescue is a community of Singaporeans sharing
resources to help individuals and families to overcome this
hazy period.
Barely three days into the haze, Jeremy Chua got the SG Haze
Rescue effort up and running. His team has leveraged on
online platforms to channel manpower and resources to the
areas of Singapore that need help most, such as
neighbourhoods with ageing populations. A Google
document has been set up where volunteers and donors can
list the ways they wish to contribute, whether in the form of
cash or a couch to sleep on for the night. Their Facebook page
is also calling for do-gooders to open up their houses and
provide relief for people without the privilege of air-
conditioning.
3. As soon as the Pollutant Standard Index rise up, they created a
Facebook Page to ask for help by donations and volunteers.
Through social media they created a group of 10 volunteers
and has distributed 200 masks from Mr. Chua who he had
meet from Facebook. They spent two hours the night after to
distribute the masks to the residents that lived at housing
board blocks at Toa Payoh Lorong 2. Also there were 120
people who e-mailed Jeremy Chua to offer help.
4. They started this campaign when 25-year-old, Jeremy
Chua, created a Facebook Page asking for people to
volunteering and donating their excess masks. It is
when the Pollutant Standard Index rise they
immediately carry out this activity. They are inspiredby
community initiatives in the US where people offer
shelter to the needy in times of crises.
5. With their hard work, they have influenced many people and
communities, such as hope church. Many teenagers also helped
out, by going from house to house to distribute masks to the
homeless.
