2. Audience research is a major part of any media company as every media text must
have an audience. Using questionnaires or focus groups, I will use a questionnaire to
conclude a image of who my target person is. This will include; gender, age, interests,
hobbies and musical habits.
I could look into demographic characteristics –the human population according to age,
gender, race, occupation, education and location
3. To find out my target audience, I set out a questionnaire and asked a variety of people
different questions, such as;
1. What gender are you: male, female?
2. Which age category are you in: 15-18, 19-22, 23-26, 27-30, 31+
3. Which of the following themes appeal to you: school, dancing, vibrant colours, funny
narrative?
4. What is your favourite genre of music: rap, hip hop and r&b, rock, dancehall, pop ?
5. Do you attend any gigs or festivals: yes, no?
6. How do you access your music: internet, downloads, radio, itunes, tv, in store?
7. Where is your favourite place to shops for clothes: H&M, JD, River Island, Topshop,
Newlook, Zara ?
8. Do you play an instrument: yes, no?
9. How often do you watch music videos: always, sometimes, rarely, never?
10. Are you willing to buy the single/album of a song you like: yes, no?
11. What style of music video do you prefer: Narrative, Performative, Abstract or
Techniques?

My results show that Pop is the favourite genre, our music choice is a pop song so it will
appeal to most of the people I asked in the questionnaire and as most of the people I asked
where Females between 15-18, so they would be our target audience.
They would be interested in fashion shopping in places like River Island and H&M and
doesn’t necessarily play an instrument. She attends gigs, downloads her music and always
watches the hottest, current music videos.
The questions with majority votes would be what we have to include to satisfy our target
market. The key thing being making it accessible on the internet e.g Youtube and being
downloadable.
Our music video is vibrant in colours in some scenes and includes
a narrative which appeals to our target market. Also, it could be
compared to many of the favourites at the moment like, Katy Perry
and Rihanna.
7. Ways to market to them
To ensure the media text reaches the right market, campaigns would be attached
including elements of;
•Posters
•Print ads
•Trailers/teasers
•Promotional interviews (e.g stars appearing on chat shows)
•Tie-in campaigns (e.g a blockbuster movie using a Blackberry phone)
•Merchandising e.g t-shirts, caps, keyrings)
All these things can help create awareness for that piece of media resulting in
hundreds of millions knowing, watching, using or hearing it.
