This talk presents SpagoBI, the Open Source Business Intelligence platform, developed and supported by Engineering and hosted by the OW2 Consortium. SpagoBI 2.0 marks a significant step ahead in the OSBI domain thanks to its solid and scalable architecture, based on the Service Oriented paradigm, to its powerful security and profiling management and to the presence of a big variety of analytical solutions, ranging from classical reporting and dimensional analysis to original and innovative modules. You will discover how it is possible, in a secure and ergonomic environment, to build Business Intelligence and Decision Support Solutions by leveraging analtycal tools as: reporting, OLAP engines, dashboards, KPI Engine, Location Intelligence to plot data analysis on geographical maps, Analytical Dossier to improve collaboration and cooperation between BI actors. The talks ends with a short illustration of the SpagoBI business model and the professional services provided by Engineering and OW2.

Bugs have been part of software development since the first computers were developed. In fact, about 15 - 50 errors occur per 1000 lines in industrial average. In order to develop large, high integrity software, we promote to separate complex systems into untrusted and trusted components. For the trusted components, we use SPARK – a formally analyzable subset of the programming language Ada 2012 – and tools that bring logics-based confidence to software verification such as automated and interactive theorem provers. In particular, the x86/64 separation kernel Muen was developed in SPARK and absence of runtime-errors have been shown. The resulting systems are efficient in practice and the formal verification of relatively small, trusted components is feasible. In this talk, I will give a short introduction into SPARK and give an outlook on how we use theorem provers to guarantee the absence of runtime-errors and proof functional correctness.

We present an approach for tackling common problems in configuration frameworks: - It is often difficult to map a conceptual model of a configurable product into the restricted capabilities of configuration engines. For the end user this leads to suboptimal UIs. - The communication between a custom UI front-end and the configuration engine is cumbersome to implement. For the end user the need for round-trips between the UI and the configuration server can cause a sluggish user experience. With HTML5 and JavaScript-based UI frameworks such as React.js browsers have advanced into a powerful application platform. This allows to run not only the UI but also the configuration logic in the browser. This benefits the work of various stakeholders: - Modelers are provided with powerful data structures and the ability to define their own concepts. - Gradually extending the standard UI with custom features becomes easy and is based on standard technologies. - End users will enjoy the user experience of modern web applications. - End users can even use configurators in offline mode, without access to a server. - There is no need to run and maintain a server-side configuration engine. We will demonstrate this approach with concrete products and discuss the integration with an SAP back end. Those could be either building a Docker image and deploying it to the Kubernetes cluster or packing the model to the Python package and installing it to your Python application. Or even changing your Java classes with the defined weights and re-compiling the whole project. Not to mention that all of this should be followed by testing your model's performance. It hardly could be named "continuous delivery" if you do it all manually. Imagine you could run the whole process of assembling/training/deploying/testing/running model via a single command in your terminal. In this webinar, we will present a way to build the whole workflow of data gathering/model training/model deployment/model testing into a single flow and run it with a single command.

This paper presents a Campus-based Publishing (CBP) project at the University of Hull, specifically an approach to developing a Campus-based Publishing Repository Integrator (CAPRI) component and its integration with Open Journal Systems (OJS) and bespoke eBook conversion modules to facilitate an overlay for the institutional Fedora repository, using a range of open source tools and Fedora’s API-A and M. The paper describes the CBP project, and justification for integration with the repository. An existing integration solution is evaluated, before a description of the development and evaluation of the CAPRI component through an invited beta test, producing ‘Umber’, an anthology of creative writing, made available in multiple electronic formats. With technical issues identified, the paper concludes by describing how the component is integrated with the CBP platform and directions for its future development.

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
