Located in the northeast of Italy, Emilia-Romagna stretches from
the Adriatic Sea in the east to the Appenine Mountains, which
separate it from Tuscany, in the west. Famous for having Europe’s
first university in the region’s capital city of Bologna, Emilia-
Romagna also receives acclaim for its wide variety of delicious
regional gastronomic specialties, which include Parmesan cheese,
Parma ham, lasagna, tortellini, and dozens of other handmade
pastas. A historically wealthy region, Emilia-Romagna features a
fascinating array of architectural and artistic treasures, from the
arcade-lined streets of Bologna to the world famous mosaics in
Ravenna and much, much more. The terrain is characterized by
vast stretches of plains and hilly areas surrounding Bologna,
Modena, Parma and other smaller cities.

While Emilia-Romagna is more famous for its food than its wine,
native grapes like Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Albana, Malvasia and
Lambrusco give rise to some noteworthy selections. The frothy,

This region in the northeast of Italy is more than just the incomparable canals and
bridges of its capital city, Venice. Veneto is also home to other wonderful art cities
like Vicenza, Padua and Verona, with its Romeo and Juliette setting, as well as
one of Italy’s most famous lakes, Lake Garda, and the numerous towns dotting the
hills surrounding the lake’s eastern banks, which afford stunning views of the
glimmering lake on sun-dappled days. But that’s not all. In the northernmost part
of the Veneto rise the imposing Italian Dolomites, which is home to one of Italy’s
most famous and exclusive ski resorts, Cortina d’Ampezzo, while its
southeastern-most point is home to the Po River Delta National Park with a
dizzying array of flora and fauna to behold.

The Abruzzo region lies south of the Marche and is surrounded by the
Appenine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. It is a very
popular tourist destination due to the variety of landscapes and uncontamina-
ted nature that it offers. The Abruzzo National Park along with the Gran
Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park provide stunning panoramas
immersed in mountains, lakes and other natural treasures, with a multitude of
rare flora and fauna. Abruzzo’s charming cities like L’Aquila, its capital, and
Pescara, Chieti and Teramo host a wealth of cultural and historical riches to
dazzle the eye and enrich the soul, while its splendid coast remains an
irresistible attraction to beachgoers throughout the summer months.

Located in the extreme northeast of Italy this underestimated and
lesser-known region surprises with the variety of activities and
attractions that it offers. The elegance of its capital city Trieste is a
delight to discover, while other cities like Gorizia, Pordenone and Udine
represent splendid opportunities to immerse oneself in the local culture
and history. The natural wonders, however, are what really stand out in
this region. The uncontaminated lagoons of Marano and Grado are a
wonder to behold, while the mouth of the Isonzo River is an oasis of
peace and quiet. To the west the snow-capped Dolomites are the
protagonists of the majestic landscape, and it is the foothills of these
beautiful mountains and valleys, which bestow upon the wines of this
region their unmistakable characteristics.
