• Incumbent system
  – Students paid for copying using smart cards
  – Staff copying was not monitored or restricted
  – All printing was unregulated, using “natural 
    ceiling” of devices to limit what could be printed
  – Students provided an allowance, but frequently 
    sought to increase this quota

The Environmental Impact


• 80,500 sheets of paper is the equivalent to one tree
   – Given the average pine tree is 300mm in dia and 18m long
• WKC  will save over 87 trees a year
• Over 20 years, this is more than 1,740 trees
• And this is only a small college!
Conclusions

•   We all need to manage costs
