Curricular Statement
Pupils are enable to generate different dimensions of knowledge and
different values related to tides through observation and enquiry.
Content analysis
Terms : High tides, Low tides, gravitational attraction, centrifugal
force,
Springtides, Neap tides, Amavasi, Pournami, Kattamaram.
Facts
 Tides are the periodic rise and fall of water level in the sea.
 Tides comprise high tides and low tides.
 Two tides usually happens daily in al most every part of the
ocean.
 The gravitational attraction exerted on the earth by the sun and
the moon.
 Centrifugal force created due to the rotation of the earth.
 The tides which occur on the Amavasi and Pournami are
exceptionally
Powerful than the tides than occur in other days. Thease are
called Spring tides.
 When the sun, the earth, the moon are in the position at 90%
angle. The moon pulls the earth to the one side and the sun pulls
the earth to the other sides. They are Neeptides.
 Tides affect human life in different ways.
Concept : Tides
Learning outcomes
After learning this topic student will be able to,
 Remembering about different types of tides.
 Understanding about different types of tides.
 Applying the information about the tides in real situation.
 Analyzing about different types of tides.
 Provide innovative suggestions about the pre cautions that could
be taken against tides.
 Creating ideas about “how do different types of tides occur” .
Instructional aides
 Video - tides

Previous Knowledge
The learner might be processing certain ideas and experiences related to
different types of tides.
Classroom Interaction Procedure Actual
Pupil
Response
Introduction
Teacher enter to the class .After the friendly interactions teacher
Asks some questions about tides.
Do you heard about high tides and low tides
How do high tide and low tide occur
Presantation
Teacher shows a picture of high tides and low tides and explain its
Definitions show in a chart. Tides are the periodic rise and fall of water
Level in the sea. It comprises high tide and low tides. Two tides usually
Happens daily in almost every part of the ocean
Teachers show the picture and explains that in the figure ‘A’ indicates that due
to the gravitational pull of the moon, the water rises in the areas Shown by
arrows in the figure. But due to the centrifugal force, water rises in the area is
called hightide. In figure C and D it is low tide at the same time. So the causes
of tides are
 The gravitations attractions exerted on the earth by the sun and the
moon.
 Centrifugal force created due to the rotation of the earth.
Activity -1
Teacher divides the students into different groups and gave name such as
group a, b, c, d or others. Then teacher shows a picture and ask some
questions. Teacher says that find the answers after the discussion in the
group
1. What do you understand from this picture?
2. Why do this happens.
Teacher listen the answers from student and concluded that
On new moon and full moon days on earth (amavasi and
pournami) the sun and the moon come all most in a line. On amavasi day the
moon comes between the earth and the sun. But on pournami day the earth
comes in between the moon and the sun. So on these days the moon and the
sun exert their combined gravitational pull on the earth. Hence the tides on
these days are exceptionally powerful. Thease tides are called springtides.
Teacher shows a flash card wrote in ‘Spring Tides’.
SpringTides
Teacher shows a picture of Neap tides and explain
When the sun the earth and the moon are in the position as shown the sun and
moon attract the earth the earth at 90% angle. When the moon pulls the earth to
one side, the sun pulls to the earth the other side which result in very low tides.
They are called Neap tides.
Teacher shows the flash card wrote in Neap tides
Neap Tides
Activity :2
Teacher says to children that :
Have you seen different types of tides
How do tides affect human life
Can you discuss about it and write in activity sheet
Teacher heard the answer, then after explained the answers
with the help of the chart.
Chart

 Salt pans fill with water
 Electricity can be generated
 Helps fisherman going for fishing on the
