www.setaf.org
Dear Colleague,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to participate in the
2nd annual Soldier Equipment and Technology
Advancement Forum (SETAF) 2016, taking place from the
14th to the 15th of March in London.
The dismounted soldier remains at the forefront of any
effective ground based operation and is called upon
again and again in a wide range of operational and
peacekeeping environments. It is with these growing and
evolving mission sets that soldier modernisation
programme managers find themselves having to
re-think and constantly improve capability and
equipment.
With a recent acceleration in available technology, the
capacity for development holds more potential than ever,
and the collaboration needed between military and
industry remains increasingly important.
Through focused networking and discussion of the assets
that can increase mission effectiveness, the Soldier
Equipment and Technology Advancement Forum shall
bring together key stake holders from across the
community, to help the soldier of today and tomorrow
advance.
I would ask you to pay particular attention to our
conference agenda, which has been put together with
great care to ensure the very best opportunities to bench
mark and learn from subject matter experts, discussing
and explaining the technologies and operational doctrine
central to the effectiveness of the dismounted soldier.
Only by sharing ideas through the medium of networking
can we develop and enhance our approach and
solutions to military programmes. I urge you to join us on
conference day, to benefit from this unique forum.
Yours Sincerely,
Colonel (ret) Richard Hansen, Former
Programme Manager, Soldier Warrior,
PEO Soldier, US Army, United States
Half Day Post Conference Workshop
Mastering Soldier Programme Management: Defining Requirements and Optimising Acquisitions
Hosted By Colonel (ret) Richard Hansen, Former Programme Manager, Soldier Warrior, PEO Soldier, US Army, United States
16th March 2016, Holiday Inn Kensington Forum, London 9.00am-12.30pm
As defence technology accelerates and new capability becomes available to the
dismounted soldier, programme managers must make considered decisions when
procuring and integrating new equipment into their respective systems.
Modern soldier programme managers face an array of day to day challenges. Whether
this be working with R&D departments to define what is possible for the soldier, right
through to managing procurement and the financials behind the programme. This
workshop will share the US Army experiences right up to the modern day on how to
effectively manage large soldier system procurements.
Drawing on his extensive experience as Former Programme Manager for PEO Soldier,
Soldier Warrior, Colonel (ret) Richard Hansen will share his knowledge of programme
management from acquisition to integration, addressing many of the challenges and
successes associated with contemporary soldier modernisation projects.
Former Program Manager, Soldier Warrior, PEO Soldier, US Army COL(R) Hansen spent
26 years in the US Army in both the war fighting and acquisition fields. He held various
command and staff positions in self-propelled, towed, and airborne artillery units and fire
support elements. His research, development, and acquisition experience includes various
assignments as a product, project, or program manager in electric guns, armored
vehicles, and precision guided munitions. In his last 4 years of service as the Project
Manager for Soldier Warrior, he was responsible for weapons, clothing, and equipment for
aviation crewmen (Air Warrior), dismounted Soldiers (Land Warrior, Ground Soldier
Ensemble), and vehicle crewmen (Mounted Soldier).
