My Mind Entered A State Of Grief
As I laid there, staring into the blinding white light illuminated by the shattered
windows, tranquil winds began whispering into my frail ears. With all my
strength, I thrust myself up from the comfort of my bed and carefully shifted my
legs towards the dilapidated door. I slowly gaze through the millions of derelict
hospital beds, however, life is nowhere to be found... Sentiments of abandonment
raced through my conscience as every muscle in my body began contracting. My
mind entered a state of anguish as my body began taking control. I pounced myself
towards the slippery, icy slabs of marble with great alacrity as I lunged towards the
wooden door. Without hesitation, I grasp the asperities of the wooden handle and
shove the door open. However, I only unlocked the gates to hell... Syringes congested
with concoctions of blood scattered lifelessly on the rugged floors as vines began
forming a twisted maze on the walls, engulfing the room with their life absorbing
tentacles. A pungent, dank odour crept into my sinuses as the abhorrent chemicals
trickled down my desiccated tastebuds, inducing a nauseating pain in my stomach.
Anxiety consumed me as I dashed through the eerie hallway, seeking the serene
sunlight emitted from the door. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally escaped
the diabolical, dilapidated abyss. However, what I perceive is inconceivable...
As I stood there, bewildered, a blast of deafening silence crashed into my eardrums.

Drug Testing In Sports Essay
A dominant problem in sport today is the use of performance enhancing drugs
(doping). The temptation of doping is high because athletes are constantly judged on
their performance. However drug testing is costly; per person, a drug test costs
around $700. New Zealand athletes are often missing out on dreams they have
worked a lifetime to fulfill, because of world wide, performance enhancing drug use.
Drug testing has an exorbitant cost. New Zealand s expenditure alone in 2015/16
amounted to $2.962 million. Are these tests even fair and worth the cost? Most
athletes consume some sort of dietary supplementthat has no evident effect on
performance enhancement, for example, a simple multivitamin can test positive in a
drug test from being on the same production line as a prohibited substance. An
unpublished survey revealed that 93% of elite New Zealand athletes had ingested at
least 3 dietary supplements in the 6 months previous, a risk when drug testing is
definite. The line between supplement use and an actual performance enhancing drugs

So in conclusion, collaboration from organisations world wide is needed to fund
research projects, to advance the methods and technologies used in drug testing, to
ensure that sport is a fair and safe environment. New Zealand athletes publically
exposing cheating are bullied by opposing athletes and media. Programs are urgently
needed to be put in place in countries that encourage performance enhancing drug use,
to educate young athletes of the danger of doping. Stricter regulations on health and
supplement industry, should be enforced on the multi billion dollar companies,
whereby they have to prove the safety of their product. These issues need to be
addressed by WADA (World Anti doping Agency
) urgently. Overall these actions will
minimise the disadvantages faced by New Zealand and other honest
Lolita Unreliable Narrator
The novel Lolita, written by Vladimir Nabakov, contains perhaps the utmost example
of the unreliable narrator. Many readers have questions Nabakov s character after
reading this story. As Humbert claims in the story that he toyed with the doctors and
nurses when he was institutionalized, he toys with us, the readers, and makes very
convincing arguments for our sympathies. His nature is very controlling, mocking
and delusional as it appears through his lyrical narration. While he does this, many
readers who dive into the life of Humbert Humbert see him as an honest narratorwho
never denies his inexcusable actions. Throughout the novel, two main aspects of
Humbert s unreliability are very prevalent throughout the read: Humbert s insanity
and his use of language. Analyzing what an unreliable narrator does to a novel is an
important theme to consider as well. With that being said, highlighting the evidence
throughout Lolitais very crucial for readers to analyze and understand.... Show more

Throughout Lolita, Humbert is always trying to gain reader sympathy. His
motivation being a slight sense of guilt for using Lolita that escalates during the
course of the novel. Humbert wants to avoid taking responsibility for his action in its
entirety. More precisely Humbert s eventual murder of Clair Quilty and robbing
Lolita of her childhood. As an unreliable narrator Humbert employs several different
methods in attempting to affect the reader. Exaggerating his insanity in numerous
occasions, and using language to affect the reader s point of view just reinforce
Humbert s complete unreliability. In Humbert s language, introducing the concepts of
the nymphet and the enchanted hunter are his attempt to blind the reader by glorying
himself along with his deep attraction to young girls. Labeling Lolita as a nymphet
allows Humbert to take advantage of her without feeling a large sum of
Dead Man Walking
Dead Man Walking
The film, Dead Man Walking was made in 1995, and was adopted from Sister
Helen Prejean s 1993 autobiographical book, which has the same title. It examines
one of the most highly debated controversial issues of our time capital punishment.
Since the protagonist of a film is regarded as the good guy, I would apply this label
to Sister Helen Prajean, played by Susan Sarandon, and that of the antagonist, or the
bad guy to Matthew Poncelet, played by Sean Penn. However, even though Sean
Penn is definitely the bad guy, by definition, my feelings changed as the film
progressed with Sean s eventual understanding of the enormity of his transgression.
(Rozan, 17) The story presented in the film attracts the ... Show more content on

You end up asking yourself, whether Penn s personal redemption is worth
foregoing his execution. Can good come out of evil? Can God truly forgive? If
you say you are truly sorry and repent sincerely, is it enough? Are there really
answers to questions such as these within our earthly realm, or should these
questions only be resolved by God? I really do not know. Many strong cases can be
made in principle for and against capital punishment. The argument that is in favor is
based on justice, and the nature of a moral community, which requires that each
person has to respect the life and liberty of others. Those who commit vicious crimes
immediately destroy the basis on which a moral community rests, and they give up
their rights to citizenship and also to life itself. The argument against is based on
love and the nature of an ideal community in which forgiveness and the hope for
redemption and rehabilitation are the key elements. Protection of the innocent
requires that criminals be isolated, possibly for life.. For the past decades capital
punishment has been one of the most hotly contested political issues in America, but
this debate is definitely a complicated one. Capital punishment is a legal, practical,
philosophical, social, political, but also a moral question. The notion of deterrence
has been at the very center of the practical debate over the question of capital
punishment. Most of us assume that we execute murderers primarily because we
School Shootings, It Shook The Nation
Flooding every major media outlet making headlines across the country are school
shootings, it shook the nation when twenty, first graders and six adults were killed
by Adam Lanza, a twenty year old man who shot his mother in the head before taking
her car and driving to Sandy Hook Elementary. Other schoolshooting have occurred
since then and it brought up the issue of guncontrol, some politicians even supported
the idea of giving teachers guns to have in the classroom. I am against allowing
teachers to have guns in the classroom in the name of protection and security.
What is your initial point of view?
My initial point of view is adding more guns to a hostile situation by giving teachers
guns does not solve schools security issues in trying to keep children safe. Spending
valuable money should not go into training teachers on how to use a gun, it should
go into educating all staff members and students on emergency drills and lock downs
in case of a school shooting. Even upgrading security systems would be more helpful
in a hostile situation rather than depending on one person killing another to save
everyone.
How can you define your point of view more clearly?
I can define my point of view more clearly by asking questions that maybe many
people have not wanted to ask for the fear of receiving a selfish answer. For
example has anyone asked a teacher, even with the training and the gun in your hand
are you really ready to kill someone? The state and the school are

However, many fisherman are unable to catch as many fish as they used to, so they
are increasingly using cyanide and dynamite in fishing, which further degrades the
coral reef ecosystem.[6] This perpetuation of bad habits simply leads to the further
decline of coral reefs and therefore perpetuating the problem. One solution to
stopping this cycle is to educate the local community about why conservation of
marine spaces that include coral reefs is important.[7] Once the local communities
understand the personal stakes at risk then they will actually fight to preserve the
reefs. Conserving coral reefs has many economic, social, and ecological benefits, not
only for the people who live on these islands, but for people throughout the world as

THE EFFECT OF EXERCISE ON HEART RATE
Abstract Aims This study is to ascertain, if there is an effect on heart rate after
exercise. This is being done to see, if there is a difference between resting heart rate
and heart rate after performing exercise.
Method and results The study was compiled of seven female students from the
University of Huddersfield. For the exercise a step was used, a polar heart rate
monitor was used for each participant with an independent assessor timing the
participants, and recording the readings. Results of the study showed there was an
increase in heart rate when performing mild exercise.

The results of this test show that it provides a valid test to estimate aerobic
capacity and shows there is a small measurement of error. A polar heart rate
monitor was used to measure the heart rate with a step of 30cm in height with a
metronome with a beat at 15 steps, per minute and increased by 5 steps every
minute for 5 stages or until 80% of the maximum estimated heart rate was reached.
The results demonstrated that the Chester Step technique is a valid predictor of
aerobic capacity in males and females from a wide range of ages and fitness levels.
The following study is to establish whether there is an increase in the heart rate of
healthy female individuals.
Methodology
The method used for the study was quantitative, this was chosen rather than a
qualitative as this deals with facts and figures and is an investigatory type of study.
This can be either experimental or non experiment. Experimental is the method used
in this study which looks at cause and effect, and involves dependent and independent
variables. (Balnaves and Caputi, 2001) A qualitative study can be described as
interpretive which deals with personal thoughts and feelings (Flick, 2009).
The participants for this study were recruited from the University of Huddersfield
which consisted of seven female students. Ethical approval was not applied for or
granted, however all information, and documented data was kept private and
God Is The Creator Of All People, And The Israelites
The modern Christian religion tells each of its followers that God loves us all,
sinners and innocents alike, if only we would accept God into our hearts. But how
true is that statement? While God is the creator of all people, and the Israelites are
supposed to be his chosen people, God does not act as such in the Bible. Rather than
being interested in humanity in general, or even the Israelitesspecifically, God is
primarily interested in certain individuals. These works suggest that even God has
favorites. From Abraham to Mosesto David, and all those heroes of the Bible, God
preserves the peoples from which he derives these favored individuals. In these
passages, the presence of a chosen one makes or breaks a society, and more often...

As soon as Adam and Eve disobey God, he bans them from the garden of Eden.
God drives out man and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim
and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life and
to the entrance to the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24). These people may have been
cared for by God, but by disobeying him, they lose God s favor, showing that it was
only favor that Adam and Eve had to begin with. Even the Israelites, God s chosen
people, are only briefly in God s favor, and that is not as a result of any inherent
interest in this group of people, but rather because the majority of God s favorite
individuals arise from this group. The people of Israel were overcome by the
Egyptians and the Egyptians thus set taskmasters over them to afflict them with
heavy burdens (Exodus 1:11). The Israelites groaned because of their slavery and
cried out for help and only then God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with
Isaac, and with Jacob (Exodus 2:23; Exodus 2:24). God had forgotten about the
people he promised to provide prosperity for in the future. In addition, God does not
remember the covenant as being with the Israelite peoples, but with his favorites of
the previous generations, i.e. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Furthermore, rather than
choosing to then save all of the Israelites with the power God obviously
Summary Of Cherokee Population Losses During The Trail
Of...
In the article, Cherokee Population Losses during the Trail of Tears: A New
Perspective and a New Estimate, by Russell Thornton, the author uses specific
mathematical techniques and historic data to reveal that the Cherokee Tribe suffered
more losses on the Trail of Tears than historians have estimated in the past. In the
1830s, the United Statesgovernment issued a series of laws that forced Indians who
resided in the southeastern part of the country to migrate westward towards new
Indian territory. A few years prior, states passed laws that annexed Native Americans
land and took away several of their fundamental rights. They were treated like
complete savages and were looked down upon by nearly every American since
colonization of the land... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historians have been able to estimate that around 16,000 tribe members were
removed from their homes to start the migration (Thornton 293). Therefore, with
previous data being that 4,000 Cherokee members were killed, it can be concluded
that around 1/4 of the migrators died. Despite these numbers being complete
estimates due to the lack of clear facts and resources that are available, Thornton
believes that demographic analysis could strengthen the estimates and make them
more accurate. Thornton found that in 1835, the Cherokee population was 16,542.
After this year, there was no access to population records until 1850 (Thornton
294). This lack of data could cause inaccuracies, but a prediction is still possible.
Thornton created a data table of the population from 1808 to 1835, and then from
1850 to 1880. The year that was needed in order to determine the tribe loss was
1840, due to the fact that the removal began in 1838 and didn t fully end until 1840.
Thornton was then able to make a graph from the population data he had obtained.
This graph was thus able to make an estimate that the population in 1840 was around
13,032. With this number, Thornton could subtract the estimated population in 1838
(23,170) from the estimated population in 1840. This would give him the number
10,138, which represented the difference between the periods, or his number for

Soap Operas Vs Pop Culture
When WGN Radio in Chicago first aired Painted Houses in 1930, a uniquely
American form of entertainment came into the world (Allen, 1985). In the eighty
seven years since its birth, the American daytime soap opera has entertained the
masses through a great depression, two World Wars, and 15 Presidents. The
programs go by the moniker soap operas because the first producers and sponsor of
the programs were soap manufacturers such as Proctor and Gamble (Allen, 1985).
Since their introduction, the soap genre has captured the imaginations of millions and
frequently influenced other forms of entertainment. Sadly, today this beloved and
persuasive pop culture pioneer is at risk. At the present time, the number of American

Such celebrities include; Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, and Brad Pitt, just to name a
few (Barnes, B., Instyle.com). Furthermore, some established A list actors and
actresses seek out roles on soaps as fans of the show themselves. One example is
the case of Elizabeth Taylor seeking out a role on General Hospital in the 1980 s.
Naturally, Gloria Monte, General Hospital head writer at that time, honored Taylor
s wish and cast her in the role of Helena Cassadine (Ford, 2010). Similarly, General
Hospital again created a role for James Franco in 2009 when he took on the part of
Robert Franco an artist/serial killer. Finally, celebrities aside, soap operas, as an
undeniable pop culture phenomenon, have been relevant and thus significant to
countless everyday Americans and American households over the past eight plus
decades. Soaps, originally designed to appeal to the average American, normally
have at least one viewer in the midst of most families, while some families have
several soap watchers, who make viewing a daily family ritual (Healy, 2012). Stay at
home wives and mothers, the first target demographic of the daytime drama,
historically felt the influence of soap operas first, then shared that influence with the
rest of the family, often times without the rest of the family even realizing. One
example of this is the number of children who share the name
Circle Of Willis Research Paper
The circle of Willis is a circular collection of blood vessels, which is formed when
the blood flows from the internal carotid artery and enters into the cranial cavity
bilaterally. Once blood circulates into the brain, it divides into the anterior cerebral
artery and middle cerebral artery. The anterior cerebral arterysupplies bloodto the
medial surface of the frontal and parietal blobs, while the middle cerebral supplies the
lateral portions of the hemispheres and through branches that supply internal
structures such as basal ganglia and internal capsule. As the blood branches out into
these structures, the anterior cerebral arteries are connected to the anterior
communicating artery. These connections form the anterior half of the circle

One of my clients (let s call her Alicia) has always delayed her responses to media

Peter Pan By J. M. Barrie
Wendy s Character Analysis
Characters in the book Peter Pan are changed by forces to embrace their inner selves.
All of the forces that change the characters in this book have something in common.
In the book Peter Pan the characters come to change due to natural occurrences.
Environment is one of the many forces that change the characters in Peter Pan . This
affects them through organisms and objects in the places around them. This is shown
many times such as when The Lost Boys ask Wendy to be their MotherO Wendy lady,

life and death situation Do you mean we shall both be drowned. (J.M. Barrie 89, 8)

The Pros and Cons of Orthodontics
Braces were not very popular back in the day. The dreadful nickname metal mouth
was often used to tease those who had to show horribly thick, metal wires and
brackets all over their teeth. Then, there was the thought of experiencing a first
kiss with a mouth full of metal. Most patients preferred to take a more natural
route electing to live with a slightly imperfect smile over a metal one. Today,
braces are fashion statements, imagine that! Patients can choose from a variety of
color combinations for a trendy look, or they can choose the more natural kind.
With more manageable materials and a variety of choices, all ages of patients are

Braces are not cheap. It is not very often that an insurance covers orthodontics and
when they do, sometimes it is for a specific age range of young adults. The average
cost of orthodontic treatment is between $3,000 and $6,000, depending on where
you live and what the treatment plan looks like (S., Lynn. 12 Things You Should
Know Before Getting Braces ). Some dental offices offer a discount for paying
upfront in advance for all your treatment. This may not be the best option
depending on which office is chosen and what their reputation is like. Saving
money is great, but protecting yourself financially is even better. While most
orthodontists are principled and try run a financially legit practice, there are some
occasions where that is not the case. Being on a payment plan is always the best
way to go to protect assets. How long will the patient be in braces? Duration of
treatment depends on the individual s case. The average treatment is two years.
There are methods for moving teeth faster, but before a method is chosen, all the
information should be gathered about what the treatment will entail. For example,
there is one six month method that incorporates fairly painful jaw surgery to
accomplish its goals. Two years in braces may seem like a long time, but it

invisibility in the art of film. This invisibility aspect is created by movie directors
through transitional techniques which manipulates space and time before viewers. A
common transitional technique used by directors is the fade out/fade out technique.
Barsam and Monahan s (2016) text, Looking at Movies, defines this cinematic
element as one in which the last shot of a scene grows gradually darker (fades out)
until the screen is rendered black for a moment and the first shot of the subsequent
scene then fades in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two characters continue to engage in sex even though they are both running
late for work, however, the opening of the window signals a change to the space
and time of the scene making it apparent that both are moving on with life. The
scene fades out and closes with the protagonist leaving from the door. The midway
of scene 3 opens with a fade in to the darkness and depicts the protagonist driving in
the dark on a dark road followed by a transitional fade out into the next day as the
protagonist is confronted by a policeman. While the transitions from dark to light
depict a change in time, the transitions also create distinctions in setting. The fade
in to the night drive is followed by a fade out into the next day in which the
protagonist is seen sleeping the car. While it may not be apparent as to how far the
protagonist has driven, the shift from night to day gives a viewer of the expectation
that the protagonist has driven a good distance after several
The Addams Family Concert Report
I ve got some bad news, the director of our school play said. Mr. Kupersmith is out
sick so you guys are on your own.
The opening performance of The Addams Family, which was the upper school
musical of the year, was that night. The Addams Family was probably the most
complex show that we members of stage crew had ever tackled? The show included
10 different eight foot flats, a full sized dining room table and chairs, three rolling
platforms, and even a fully operational torture device. Mr. Kupersmith, the play s
energetic technical director, hung the lights, designed the props, and was supposed
to help us move set pieces on stage during the show. Now we had to do the musical
without him because he had strep throat! I was a freshman at

INTRO (5pages)
Each and every one of us is different in a unique way; in today s time a person s
personality is seen as their own unique code or pattern that tends to define who they
are in terms of emotions and behavior. With the help of the Big Five Personality
Traits Theory we can actually determin a person s personality.
The first factor of the theory is openness to experience which tends to deal with
insight and imagination as well as having many interests including a wide variety in
taste of music, books or artwork. Other opinions and critiques tend to believe that
openness also includes an emotional aspect as well as unusual ideas and curiosity.
Factor two, conscientiousness, refers to the idea that one can act with self
discipline and acts in a way that is more measured out rather than spontaneous and
in one way or another efficient and dependable. Many critiques believe that this
factor also refers to people have a strong work ethic, are focused as well as
disciplined which leads to a sense of organization. Many psychologists nowadays

finding themselves in a group, will tend to assert themselves in attempt to make

far as to say that an extraversionist would say that he/she is the life of the party and

Education Can End Systematic Oppression
The subject of expectations for higher education is one that tends to spark
impassioned debate among educators, students and parents alike. In Pedagogy of
the Oppressed Paulo Freire presses his audience to consider such expectations in
light of one s own intentions, motives, and affections toward those to be educated
(Freire 50). He goes even further to suggest that a love for one another through
empathetic dialogue, especially on the part of the educator, must be present in
order for fear to be wiped away and liberation to eventually take its place (Freire
89,90). It was that dialogical approach that made Freire s literacy programs so
successful in Brazil until his work was interrupted by a military dictatorship in the
mid 60s and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For children without the advantage of origin of birth, struggles throughout the
formative years will affect their learning process and expectations for the future.
Many immigrant children suffer the same disadvantages as children in poverty. This
fact should not be ignored when considering expectations for a future college
degree. Freire posits that the cycle of dehumanization can only be broken when a
radical posture is taken by the oppressor, a posture in which the oppressor enters into
the situation of the oppressed through humility (44, 48, 49). An empathetic approach
to individuals is essential if we are to understand the challenges they face and have a
realistic hope for future success and change. The oppressed in our society also
include individuals who have suffered abuse and neglect. Hundreds of thousands of
children have been placed in the foster care system due to an array of maltreatment
(Child Welfare). Children who are neglected do not experience the same
developmental advantages as children raised in a nurturing environment. Research
has shown that neglect in the early years of life affects a child s brain development
(Hamilton). Studies have also shown that the impact of neglect may become more
severe as a child grows older and eventually have lasting effects on intellectual,
behavioral, social, and cognitive development (DePanfilis). Acknowledging the

An Ethical Perspective And Obligation
From an ethical perspective and obligation, however, the autonomy and dignity of all
individuals should also be taken into account and therefore respected (Van Camp,
2014). This should raise questions about what can potentially be implemented that
would accommodate the regulations and requirements yet, respect the personal
differences that accompany religious beliefs. For instance, in an effort to respect
human autonomy and dignity, Illinois is trying to strike that balance. Although
Illinois remains diligent in conveying that full facial coverage is not acceptable, the
state is trying to find common ground for individuals who practice a religionthat
believes in certain attire being worn (Illinois Review, 2015). Explained by the Illinois

As previously mentioned a driver license is one of the most important forms of
identification. It is of the opinion that without a photograph there is no
identification, there is no way to know who the individual really is. Andrei
Zakhareuski explains, A current driver s license is a universally accepted form of
personal identification because it displays your contact information and a picture that
officials can compare to the person who is presenting it as identification.
(Zakhareuski, 2017, para. 2). It is of the belief that this is exactly the point that
makes having photographs on driver licenses or any other form of identification
extremely important in the wake of 9/11; safety. It is of the viewpoint that
photographs on all forms of identification should be present and required regardless
of religious beliefs. This statement may indeed seem harsh yet, without a photo it
seems very possible there is no true identity.
Furthermore, it is viewed that technically individuals have the right to drive, but
the ability for an individual to obtain a driver license can be considered a privilege.
Privilege is essentially something that is provided and can be rejected or retracted
at any point (Merriam, 2016). It is of the opinion that if individuals do not wish to
obey by the rules and regulations set forth for the safety and protection of all
individuals, than the privilege to obtain a driver license can be taken away. In other
words, if individuals want
Pros And Cons Of Employees

Continued employment for workers past their retirement age
Dear readers,
Whether to allow retired citizens to continue working after passing their retirement
age is still a huge doubt in our current society. Organizations may not want to re
employ them as they may be unfit for the job due to their physical limitations.
However, re employing them will greatly benefit them. I will be giving my opinions
and suggestions for this concern in this blog post.
Some Human Resource (HR) managers of organizations did report cons of re
employing them:
Some older people may not be as updated in technology as the younger generation.
Hence additional training is needed.
They may have one or more chronic disease and hence it makes them more expensive
when it comes to insurance and medical care.
They may request for flexible hours which some organizations may not be able to
give.
These few factors are mainly why organizations refuse to employ retired workers as
these are the problems they have to face. However, some HR managers would still
employ retired workers as there are more pros than cons.
The advantages include:
They are usually experienced so they will be able to solve their own problems.

be valuable to the organization and they are assets, as the saying goes, old is gold .
They have contributed to the economy for a long time and letting them work for a
few years more would not make a huge difference. With their experience, the
organization would run more smoothly and

Initially, we crossed a grassy meadow, and then navigated onto steep rugged
terrain. Traveling at a slow, steady pace, the sound of creaking saddles and rustling
leaves from the crisp breeze was the only thing you could hear for miles. As we
ventured across several clear rushing streams, my horse decided to abruptly stop
for a quick drink. The hearty green foliage was beautiful as mountain laurel and
flame azalea scattered the old dirt trail while the sun peeked through the trees
casting shadows. The trail weaved up the mountain and the higher we climbed the
narrower the trail became; therefore, looking down was quite a frightening
experience. After an hour of riding Joe, our guide, took the group to an overlook
area that had spectacular views of mountains and nearby hills. The dancing wisps of
clouds hung over the mountains, and according to Joe, the Cherokee referred to the
mountains as being shaconage or blue, like smoke (Oswald 98). As the group
proceeded down the mountain, the trail became rocky and muddy, making our ride
quite lively heading back to the stables. Sadly, another awesome adventure has ended,
but the memories will last forever. That evening at the campground, I enjoyed
cooking my trout over an open campfire and reminiscing about the last three days.
Few experiences have uplifted my spirit more than the beauty of the mountaintops,
valleys, wildlife, and the natural wonders of the Great Smoky
The Anti-Hero In 1984 And The Party
Firstly, both novels share a dystopian and tyrannical setting. In 1984, the people of
Oceania are prohibited from speaking out against The Party , and many wouldn t
dare to do so from the threat of violent and potentially fatal retribution from the
Thought Police. There are no actual laws, which allows the Party to instil any
policy whenever it desires with Big Brother s best interest in mind, so that they can
easily influence and in many cases command their people. In CWO, the police are
ruthless, immoral men, however crimes like robbery and rape are frequent because
although the society is brutally controlled, Alex and his gang spend their evenings
rebelling an anarchic, riotous way much like other gangs in the novel. This highlights
the difference in the characterisation of the anti hero in each novel, because although
both novels are both set in a similar society in 1984 Winston rebels in a secretive
manner with a private diary and surreptitious sexual encounters with Julia, whereas in

Costa Rica is an absolutely beautiful country. It is full of tropical flowers, trees,

that I noticed was the culture. It was completely different from the United States.
The people were extremely inviting and accepting. The city was not as loud as a
city in the United States either. There were no sirens or horns honking. In fact,
most cars were off the road by about eight o clock in the evening. According to

not drive cars but instead rode horses. Ninety percent of their food is home grown
including fruits, vegetables, and butter. There is a truck that comes through the
village every morning with chicken and fresh eggs, but other than that their meat is

Teaching Methods And Strategies For Teaching Styles
There has always been a debate on what kind of teaching styles work best, what the
best curriculum to teach is, or how to effectively organize your classroom. Yet,
nobody has discovered what the most effective teaching methods are. As future
teachers, we must constantly be making decisions that will shape us into the teacher
we would like to become. Over the course of the next four years, and even once we
become teachers with classrooms of our own, we will be exposed to many different
teachingmethods and strategies. There is no one right or wrong way to teach, and it
is up to us to decide how we would like to structure our classroom. While there are
many teaching styles, it seems that there is predominantly two types of teachers
according to John Dewey: those that are reflective, and those that are not.
Unreflective teachers tend to accept the routines that are given to them by the school
they are working for. They spend their days working to solve problems who have
been created by others for them. Reflective teachers on the other hand, are constantly
evaluating their beliefs, teaching methods and behaviors and modifying those things
so that it works with the situation they are in. Dewey believe that in order to be a
reflective teacher, you must have three different components to your attitude: open
mindedness, responsibility, and wholeheartedness. In being open minded, you must
be willing to listen to both sides of the argument and willing to use an alternative way

Persuasive Essay On Litters
Cat lovers know that cats make adorable, low maintenance pets. They do not
demand as much attention as other pets do. They pretty much keep to themselves,
unless they are in the mood to explore or to be a little bit affectionate with you.
They are also basically clean animals. They groom themselves a lot, they mostly
keep away from dirt, and they instinctively keep their own feces out of sight. If they
are outdoor cats, that is.
The litter box is the number one need for indoor cats. Your beloved feline and you,
as owner of the household and the person who has to live with the stench, need a
proper feces disposal system. In other words, you need a litter box. And some litter

Background: One of the biggest challenges that faces the older adult population
currently is the increased incidence of falls and postural instability.1 2 Several
randomized controlled trials have been conducted to investigate the effectiveness
of Tai Chi for Fall Prevention for older adults using a twice a week program model.

self discovery and maturity. Sexual experimentation is good experience Bahij.
Curiosity and experience push teens into being intimate with their partners, in that
way they believe that they could have a much better understanding when talking
about relationship. Sure they been hearing about all the risks or STDs pregnancy... but
what is it really like? That is what both boys and girls want to discover and

they are pressed to do something that they are not legally allowed to do. Part of it is
to feel bad by breaking the law; it is a sort of a rebellion move for them.
Teenage sexuality has risen and has become a standard phenomenal in societies.
However, there are still some major problems that derive from this issue.
These days, the task of teaching moral values has become increasingly difficult in
today s materialistic, saturated society. Most parents have the difficult job of

The Pros And Cons Of The United States Government
The United States government needs a strong base and a government that will
protect its people. The people will not survive if there are not officials. Anti
federalists wanted each state to have its own local government which in turn makes
the states less unified. If each state has different laws and there is no centralized
government than there is no similarity between the states other than being on the
same continent. The states have to remain united and have a strong central
government so that all Americans have the same rights and laws that they are
governed by. Federalists were people who believed America should have a strong
central government in order to properly govern the people and to make a regulated
economy. A very important line... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The country very well could have fallen apart by now and the people would not

The United States continues to grow but the country only works if it remains united
and follows one supreme voice and law.Government is what holds the people together
and unites them through all the many differences that the people bring. The fabric of
American empire ought to rest on the solid bases of THE CONSENT OF THE
PEOPLE. The streams of national power ought to flow from that pure, original
fountain of all legitimate authority. The people are what make the United States
government so impressive, because without the people there would be no
government. People like Alexander Hamilton who helped create the American
economy were crucial in the prosperity of America. America is a melting pot of all
sorts of civilizations that are united through a very hard working and intelligent
government.
Federalists and Anti federalists are very different breeds of people. Federalists

Andrew Jackson began a whole new era in American history. Amongst his greatest
accomplishments were evoking the common man to be interested in government and

The Jacksonians arose from these issues and others, as is evidenced in writings of
the time, such as The Working Men s Declaration of Independence by George Henry
Evans. They began to call the public s attention to an oppression by the upper class
through many different issues of the time, which was looked down upon by some,
such as Daniel Webster in response to Jackson s bank veto. This dealt with the Bank
War which was the primary economic dealing of the time in which President Jackson
vetoed the recharter of the Bank of the United States. He did so because he found
the bank unconstitutional and thought that it was a near monopoly that only
benefited the rich. This stirred public support and brought the class issue to the
forefront for many people. Although some looked upon Jackson s decision on the
Bank as a bad one, the Jacksonians supported him because they saw it as an attempt
to support equality and eliminate a monopoly in the hands of the elite rich. Another
such instance that dealt with monopoly and equality of economic opportunity was
the Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge case in 1837. In it, Chief Justice Taney
ruled that new enterprises could not be confined by the implied privileges of old
charters, in an effort to allow for competition and free enterprise. Political democracy
was one of the resurfacing interests during the Jacksonian Era. Jacksonian Democrats
saw it as their duty to protect the government run

Bertolt Brecht (1898 1956) offered a challenge to Aristotle s ancient approach to
theatre as a spectator activity. He sought to stimulate the minds of his audience,
integrating economics and politics into his plays, in hopes that those watching would
respond with intellect, not emotion.
As Eyre and Wright describe him, He was a brilliant man of the theatre, highly
receptive to the avant garde of his day, quick to improve it and somewhat too
precipitate to turn it into theory. He was a communist: not a left winger, not a liberal,
nor a humanitarian. From his twenties onwards, he thought and worked in terms of
Marxist dialectic and he really wasn t kidding. (Bicknell 2012)
Over the course of his career, Brecht developed his so called epic theatre, in which
narrative, montage, self contained scenes, and rational argument were used to create
a shock of realization in the spectator. To create a distancing effect, Brecht promoted
acting and staging that would merely demonstrate what was being portrayed, which
gave the audience a more objective perspective on the action. In Brecht s plays, say
Eyre and Wright, lucidity reigns: nothing is worse than a jumble of confused
impressions. (Bicknell 2012)
In terms of construction, Brecht explains that epic drama does not lead to an inevitable

current laws for gun control effective? Is the U.S. in need of reform or enactment of

Emancipated Foster Education
In the United States, the number of youth who are again out of the foster care
system and failing to achieve permanency are growing each year. Foster care
alumni have higher rates of incarceration and unintended pregnancies. Emancipated
youth are at a higher risk for becoming homeless and are more likely to be food
insecure. Many of these youth fail to graduate from high school, obtain their GED
or to be employed. These youth are falling through the cracks, and aren t able to
utilize resources and services. In order to advocate for emancipated foster youth
alumni, by choosing one social media platform, I would elect for an Instagram
account. This forum enables users to share photos, videos, and messages. The

Descartes Influence on Psychology
Running head: DESCARTES INFLUENCE ON PSYCHOLOGYDescartes
Influence on Psychology DESCARTES INFLUENCE ON PSYCHOLOGY RenГ©
Descartes was a famous French mathematician, scientist, and philosopher throughout
the mid 1600 s. He is often regarded as the father of modern philosophy; however,
his highly influential ideas have also impacted many other scientific fields, including
the world of psychology. Descartes contributions in philosophy and biology have had
a significant influence on modern psychology. He introduced new theories about the
mind and the body that, while not always correct, undoubtedly changed peoples
views and sparked a whole new approach to looking at the mind. There is one thing

It can also be argued that these contributions paved the path for modern behavioral
psychology and more specifically the concept of stimulus response. This type of
psychology focuses on how people behave. Modern behavioral psychologists test
this idea that the brain in responsible for behavior and thinking by manipulating
situations and studying reactions. Descartes had a very mechanistic view of the
brain. He believed the body works similar to machines as it is material and follows
laws of physics. He suggests that mind and body interact at the pineal gland. He
predicted that there are tube like structures inside our bodies that tighten under

Descartes did a lot of his studies about biology by using animals, just as many
researchers in psychology do today. He opened up the possibility of using animals
as subjects in comparison to humans by looking at both their anatomy and behavior.
Descartes research sparked of a lot of attention. There were people in opposition to
Descartes and others who took his ideas further to discover the truth. Much of his
work has since been discredited; however, it is because of him that so many

I gave Kramer vs. Kramer a rating of four stars. I gave Kramer vs. Kramer four
stars because it was entertaining. I really like this movie, it was very easy to
follow and understand. Kramer vs. Kramer was very entertaining because i always
wanted to know what was going to happen next. I also liked the movie because it
was very realistic. It was easy to follow the plot of the movie because it is about
something that could happen to us. Secondly, I gave Kramer vs. Kramerfour stars
because of acting. The actors in the movie are quality actors and make you feel like
you part of the movie. Justin Henry, who plays Bill Kramer, was around the age of
six or seven when he was acting in this movie. Even Though Justin Henry was six

True Teleportation During An Experiment At Work
My story starts mid January 1837. It was a Friday, and I had just gotten home from
a long day of work. Eager, though, because I had only installed the final parts into
a secret project of mine. I had earlier discovered the secrets of true teleportation
during an experiment at work. I heard a subtle thmmp as the moon began to shine
so slightly through the now barren trees outside my windows, brightened for a
short moment by the electricity in the sky. Small droplets of water started
appearing on the windows. Odd for this time of the year, for it had not been too
long since they were frozen. As I made my way with haste to my small lab, the beat
of the rain grew, and more frequent rattles of thunder shook tiny clouds of dust into
the air.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The storm persisted, but not as intense as before. There remained a trickle of water
from the sky.
I brought myself up. From my surroundings, it was apparent that I had not gone out
too far from my laboratory. Despite the blackness of the night, I was too familiar
with the swamp which engulfed my town. I pointed myself in the direction of the
only light I could see, unmistakably the town s lighthouse. However, it was difficult
to be sure given my recent and regrettable actions. My mind seemed to betray me in
a sense which caught me off guard. Nevertheless, the light was my only point to go
on, so I began my short journey back to civilization.
Nearing the edge of what now felt like a forest, I found my way to the lighthouse.
Close by sat the small town, which came to me quickly compared to my trek through
the marsh.
The guard stopped me before I could walk through the gate. Confused, I took a
glance backwards. I was a well distinguished individual in my local community, and
it was quite atypical for the guard to stop almost anyone from our small settlement.
To my surprise, however, there was no one else to be seen except myself.
What are you and what are you doing here! bellowed the chief. I was quite thrown.
It s just me. I muttered, probably not to be heard. It was ill lit and perhaps he could
not see me, but I was surely unmistakable in my laboratory attire. The chief stomped
forward as the rest of the guard drew their weapons,
Plants And Insects Have A Long History Together
Plants and Insects There is no doubt that plants and insects have a long history
together. It is an on going relationship that can be beneficial or detrimental to both
parties, depending on the situation. Insects pollinate plants, in return the plants
provide food for insects. But the relationship between the two isn t always so
beneficial. Some insects can kill plants by taking away the essential nutrients away
from the plant. There are also insects that are predators. The predator insects help
the plants by getting rid of the insects that are killing the plant. There are some
plants that have a natural pesticide in their chemical make up and can ward off
unwanted bugs. There are other contributing factors to how much of an impact plants
and insect have on each other. For example, there may be a plant in or near your
garden that attracts insects that are harmful and once that insect is there, it will
potentially migrate around to other plants in your garden. When an insect lands on a
plant it picks up pollen, then the insect transfers it to another plant. This process is
called pollination and is very important in the botanical world. Pollination allows
plants to fertilize and reproduce. Some insects use the nectar and pollen of a plant as
food. In this situation both plant and insects benefit. Yet, this isn t always the case.
Generally one or the other gets the greater advantage. The biggest issue when it
comes to plants and insects are the insects that

How Did Walt Disney Create Mickey Mouse?
The public is filled with Disney products and endorsements. Disneyland is known
as the happiest place on Earth and all in thanks to the creator, Walt Disney. Children
now look up to Disney as a source of hope, faith and inspiration for the future.
Disney left behind tracks to what a child needs to grow and to become happy with
the idea that magic exists. His first creation was brought to life by placing upon the
name Mickey. It is interesting to note that Mickey Mouse started out as an impish,
mischievous character that played a cow s teeth like a xylophone in his first movie.
He also performed other nasty little tasks as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This new Oswald model was adapted directly from a non Oswald character in
another Lantz cartoon: the Cinecolor Fox and the Rabbit (1935), released some two
months earlier as the last of the early

Cartune Classics series. It subsequently took his company 78 years to get back the
rights to the Oswald character when in 2006 the Walt DisneyCompany reacquired
the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit from NBC Universal. (Bellis, 3).
Mickey was created as a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. In the spring of
1928, Disney asked Ub Iwerks to start drawing up new character ideas. Iwerks tried
sketches of various animals, such as dogs and cats, but none of these appealed to
Disney. A female cow and male horse were also rejected. They would later turn up
as Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar. Walt Disney got the inspiration for
Mickey Mouse from his old pet mouse he used to have on his farm. Mickey Mouse
popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from
Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and
myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner. (Disney, 5).
Hugh Harman drew some sketches of mice around a photograph of Walt Disney.
These inspired Ub Iwerks to create a new mouse character for Disney. Mortimer
Mouse had been Disney s original name for the character before his wife, Lillian,
The Divine Comedy By Dante Alighieri Essay
Dante Alighieri is known as one of the greatest Italian poets. One of Alighieri s most
famous works of art would be his poem called the Divine Comedy written in year
1320. The poem itself has a heavy Christian influence and it entails the journey of
Dante, the protagonist as he travels through hell, purgatory and finally paradise.
Additionally, the poem captures Dante s journey as he gets closer to god. As Dante
first enters Inferno, (also known as hell), he meets Virgil, who is not only his mentor
and guide throughout Dante s journey but Virgil is also known as one of the greatest
poets of all time. On this journey in hell with Virgil, Dante comes across many souls
who have committed sins in their life but even then, Dante enables them to speak and
share their stories. The Inferno is a part of the Divine Comedy in which the reader
meets multiple sinners, such as Francesca, Paolo, Ugolino and Pope Nicholas III who
receive the chance to reiterate their story to Dante, and become fortunate enough that
Dante decides to include their story in his poem, giving them the prospect of
becoming immortal.
When I began reading the Divine Comedy I realized that Dante truly takes the time to
hear what the souls want to say regarding their punishment in hell. As I read further
on into purgatory, I observed that only in hell, Dante continuously emphasizes on
people sharing their stories with him in each canto. Essentially there is a repeating
pattern in the inferno regarding gaining
The Motif Of Entrapment By Edith Wharton
Executive Order 9066, passed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1942,
forced all Japanese Americans to pack up their lives and move to internment
camps, a place where they would live in shabby barracks and get treated unfairly by
guards. This order confineded the American citizens in heinous camps for up to
three years. Because of their heritage, which could be as little as one sixteenth
Japanese, the citizens were obligated to move; they became trapped in these camps
where unhappiness was present in every aspect of life. Similarly, in the novel Ethan
Frome, the title character is trapped in his unhappy life due to marriage, family,
property, and financial liabilities. The author, Edith Wharton uses the motif of
entrapment to prove how obligations lead to unhappiness throughout the novel.
Ethan Frome and his wife, Zenobia (Zeena), never really know what true love
feels like because they are both very lonely people. They meet when Zeena is
caring for Ethan s mother; due to their loneliness, they mistake the bizarre feeling
of companionship for love. Ethan marries Zeena, not because he is in love, but
because he does not want to be alone and he feels like he owes it to her for
everything she is doing for him. She is aware of this and claims, ...you grudged me
the money to get back my health, when I lost it nursing your own mother! And my
folks all told me at the time you couldn t do no less than marry me after (Wharton
83). In addition to Zeena saying that Ethan

Imagery in The Road Not Taken Essay
In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken , Frost shows the everyday human struggle
to make a choice that could change the course of one s life. In his poem, a person
has the choice to take one road or the other. One road is worn out from many
people taking it, and the other is barely touched, for fewer have taken that road.
Throughout the poem, the speaker learns that just because so many other people
have done one thing, or walked one way, does not mean everyone has to.
Sometimes you just have to go your own way. In the poem, a person is walking
along a path in an autumn forest in the early hours of the morning, when he stumbles
upon a fork in the road. The speaker wishes that he would be able to travel down
both of them, but he has places... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many key aspects to this poem. The speaker, or the person who is
experiencing the events in the poem, is a traveler walking through the woods.
There is no specific occasion, although the poem does mention that the speaker did
not have enough time to travel both roads on that one day. The setting of the poem
in time is told in the line Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), it tells us that
the setting is autumn, because the leaves are changing, and have turned yellow.
The setting in place is a forest, although it Frost does not specify where the forest
is. In this poem, I believe the theme is that you have to jump at an opportunity
when you get it, or you may never get that opportunity again. Moving on to the
tone of the poem, I believe that it is wistful, and that the speaker might be looking
back on his days, and realizing that he taking the other road might have made all of
the difference in his life. There is very good diction in this poem, as some words
express Frost s feeling more than other s would ve. For example, in the line Two
roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), Frost really emphasizes the two roads
separating from each other. In another line In leaves no step had trodden black (12),
trodden is a more appropriate than another word such as crushed or pulverized,
because it is the past form of trod, or to step in something, and gives an image of
human feet stepping on the freshly fallen leaves. In the poem, many instances

Roles And Norms In The Brionna s Team
I surveyed my mother Laticea and my friend BriOnna. My mom used her church
choir as an example and BriOnna used her job. The church choir would be
considered a social group, because the rules and norms are less formal than
BriOnna s group home which would be considered a problem solving group. In the
church choir, member s are more relaxed when it comes to dress code. When
dressing for service, approriate church attire is required but there is no uniform.
BriOnna s job however, requires them to wear scrubs and closed toed shoes. Both
my mother s choir and BriOnna s group home are in the emergence phase. BriOnna
feels that everyone has a sense of understanding, regarding their roles and moving
forward. The choir has also made progress from where they originally started, but are
not completely at the reinforcement phase.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important for everyone to understand and follow these norms. For instance,
when I was in a dance group, whenever someone had difficulty with a move, the
entire group would go over that part multiple times until everyone undertsood it.
During my survey, I learned that it is imperative for members to follow the
attendance policy. For BriOnna s job, everyone in the home is required to
communicate with the supervisor regarding their attendance. If someone is going to
be running late, they inform the supervisor so she can inform the other employees
that may need to stay later. This also affects the employee, because they receive an
occurrence for the tardiness. In the choir, attendance isn t as strict. The director
prefers that the everyone is there on time because it ensures they can get a great
rehearsal in, however, if someone is running late, the consequences aren t
Siddhartha Themes
The novel Siddhartha by Herman Hesse has many major themes throughout the book.
These themes include love, success, desire, wisdom and many more. Hesse uses
spirituality and religion to bring these themes to the forefront and focuses on how
finding yourself spiritually will help to reach Nirvana. Most of the themes throughout
the book are very important to the characters and the plot, but the main character,
Siddhartha, realizes that most of all, wisdom is the most important thing a person
can achieve. On page six, Siddhartha contemplates, But where were the Brahmans,
where the priests, where the wise men of penitents, who had succeeded in not just
knowing this deepest of all knowledge but also to live it? This quote shows that
knowledge is not only something that can be learned in a classroom or reading a
book, but knowledge is something earned through experience. Knowledge through
experience is known as wisdom to Siddhartha. Because the book takes place over
almost all of Siddhartha s life, the reader is able to see the gain in... Show more

Wisdom is knowledge gained through experience. Wisdom is not expressible.
Wisdom, when a wise man tries to express it, always sounds like foolishness.
Knowledge can be expressed, but not wisdom. One can discover it, one can live it,
one can be borne along by it, one can do miracles with it, but one cannot express it
and teach it. (Page 110) I completely agree with this teaching, because even through
the short life I have lived, I have learned things through experience that one could
never learn form being told. Just thinking about what I have learned in my life so
far brings up many questions on what I have yet to learn. I know I will learn about
many other things, but what will I learn about myself? What will I learn about my
faith? These are just a couple questions that can only be answered through experience

  • 2. My Mind Entered A State Of Grief As I laid there, staring into the blinding white light illuminated by the shattered windows, tranquil winds began whispering into my frail ears. With all my strength, I thrust myself up from the comfort of my bed and carefully shifted my legs towards the dilapidated door. I slowly gaze through the millions of derelict hospital beds, however, life is nowhere to be found... Sentiments of abandonment raced through my conscience as every muscle in my body began contracting. My mind entered a state of anguish as my body began taking control. I pounced myself towards the slippery, icy slabs of marble with great alacrity as I lunged towards the wooden door. Without hesitation, I grasp the asperities of the wooden handle and shove the door open. However, I only unlocked the gates to hell... Syringes congested with concoctions of blood scattered lifelessly on the rugged floors as vines began forming a twisted maze on the walls, engulfing the room with their life absorbing tentacles. A pungent, dank odour crept into my sinuses as the abhorrent chemicals trickled down my desiccated tastebuds, inducing a nauseating pain in my stomach. Anxiety consumed me as I dashed through the eerie hallway, seeking the serene sunlight emitted from the door. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally escaped the diabolical, dilapidated abyss. However, what I perceive is inconceivable... As I stood there, bewildered, a blast of deafening silence crashed into my eardrums. Not a single vibration
  • 3. Drug Testing In Sports Essay A dominant problem in sport today is the use of performance enhancing drugs (doping). The temptation of doping is high because athletes are constantly judged on their performance. However drug testing is costly; per person, a drug test costs around $700. New Zealand athletes are often missing out on dreams they have worked a lifetime to fulfill, because of world wide, performance enhancing drug use. Drug testing has an exorbitant cost. New Zealand s expenditure alone in 2015/16 amounted to $2.962 million. Are these tests even fair and worth the cost? Most athletes consume some sort of dietary supplementthat has no evident effect on performance enhancement, for example, a simple multivitamin can test positive in a drug test from being on the same production line as a prohibited substance. An unpublished survey revealed that 93% of elite New Zealand athletes had ingested at least 3 dietary supplements in the 6 months previous, a risk when drug testing is definite. The line between supplement use and an actual performance enhancing drugs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So in conclusion, collaboration from organisations world wide is needed to fund research projects, to advance the methods and technologies used in drug testing, to ensure that sport is a fair and safe environment. New Zealand athletes publically exposing cheating are bullied by opposing athletes and media. Programs are urgently needed to be put in place in countries that encourage performance enhancing drug use, to educate young athletes of the danger of doping. Stricter regulations on health and supplement industry, should be enforced on the multi billion dollar companies, whereby they have to prove the safety of their product. These issues need to be addressed by WADA (World Anti doping Agency ) urgently. Overall these actions will minimise the disadvantages faced by New Zealand and other honest
  • 4. Lolita Unreliable Narrator The novel Lolita, written by Vladimir Nabakov, contains perhaps the utmost example of the unreliable narrator. Many readers have questions Nabakov s character after reading this story. As Humbert claims in the story that he toyed with the doctors and nurses when he was institutionalized, he toys with us, the readers, and makes very convincing arguments for our sympathies. His nature is very controlling, mocking and delusional as it appears through his lyrical narration. While he does this, many readers who dive into the life of Humbert Humbert see him as an honest narratorwho never denies his inexcusable actions. Throughout the novel, two main aspects of Humbert s unreliability are very prevalent throughout the read: Humbert s insanity and his use of language. Analyzing what an unreliable narrator does to a novel is an important theme to consider as well. With that being said, highlighting the evidence throughout Lolitais very crucial for readers to analyze and understand.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout Lolita, Humbert is always trying to gain reader sympathy. His motivation being a slight sense of guilt for using Lolita that escalates during the course of the novel. Humbert wants to avoid taking responsibility for his action in its entirety. More precisely Humbert s eventual murder of Clair Quilty and robbing Lolita of her childhood. As an unreliable narrator Humbert employs several different methods in attempting to affect the reader. Exaggerating his insanity in numerous occasions, and using language to affect the reader s point of view just reinforce Humbert s complete unreliability. In Humbert s language, introducing the concepts of the nymphet and the enchanted hunter are his attempt to blind the reader by glorying himself along with his deep attraction to young girls. Labeling Lolita as a nymphet allows Humbert to take advantage of her without feeling a large sum of
  • 5. Dead Man Walking Dead Man Walking The film, Dead Man Walking was made in 1995, and was adopted from Sister Helen Prejean s 1993 autobiographical book, which has the same title. It examines one of the most highly debated controversial issues of our time capital punishment. Since the protagonist of a film is regarded as the good guy, I would apply this label to Sister Helen Prajean, played by Susan Sarandon, and that of the antagonist, or the bad guy to Matthew Poncelet, played by Sean Penn. However, even though Sean Penn is definitely the bad guy, by definition, my feelings changed as the film progressed with Sean s eventual understanding of the enormity of his transgression. (Rozan, 17) The story presented in the film attracts the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You end up asking yourself, whether Penn s personal redemption is worth foregoing his execution. Can good come out of evil? Can God truly forgive? If you say you are truly sorry and repent sincerely, is it enough? Are there really answers to questions such as these within our earthly realm, or should these questions only be resolved by God? I really do not know. Many strong cases can be made in principle for and against capital punishment. The argument that is in favor is based on justice, and the nature of a moral community, which requires that each person has to respect the life and liberty of others. Those who commit vicious crimes immediately destroy the basis on which a moral community rests, and they give up their rights to citizenship and also to life itself. The argument against is based on love and the nature of an ideal community in which forgiveness and the hope for redemption and rehabilitation are the key elements. Protection of the innocent requires that criminals be isolated, possibly for life.. For the past decades capital punishment has been one of the most hotly contested political issues in America, but this debate is definitely a complicated one. Capital punishment is a legal, practical, philosophical, social, political, but also a moral question. The notion of deterrence has been at the very center of the practical debate over the question of capital punishment. Most of us assume that we execute murderers primarily because we
  • 6. School Shootings, It Shook The Nation Flooding every major media outlet making headlines across the country are school shootings, it shook the nation when twenty, first graders and six adults were killed by Adam Lanza, a twenty year old man who shot his mother in the head before taking her car and driving to Sandy Hook Elementary. Other schoolshooting have occurred since then and it brought up the issue of guncontrol, some politicians even supported the idea of giving teachers guns to have in the classroom. I am against allowing teachers to have guns in the classroom in the name of protection and security. What is your initial point of view? My initial point of view is adding more guns to a hostile situation by giving teachers guns does not solve schools security issues in trying to keep children safe. Spending valuable money should not go into training teachers on how to use a gun, it should go into educating all staff members and students on emergency drills and lock downs in case of a school shooting. Even upgrading security systems would be more helpful in a hostile situation rather than depending on one person killing another to save everyone. How can you define your point of view more clearly? I can define my point of view more clearly by asking questions that maybe many people have not wanted to ask for the fear of receiving a selfish answer. For example has anyone asked a teacher, even with the training and the gun in your hand are you really ready to kill someone? The state and the school are

One solution to stopping this cycle is to educate the local community about why conservation of marine spaces that include coral reefs is important.[7] Once the local communities understand the personal stakes at risk then they will actually fight to preserve the reefs. Conserving coral reefs has many economic, social, and ecological benefits, not only for the people who live on these islands, but for people throughout the world as well. Method and results The study was compiled of seven female students from the University of Huddersfield. The results of this test show that it provides a valid test to estimate aerobic capacity and shows there is a small measurement of error. A polar heart rate monitor was used to measure the heart rate with a step of 30cm in height with a metronome with a beat at 15 steps, per minute and increased by 5 steps every minute for 5 stages or until 80% of the maximum estimated heart rate was reached. The results demonstrated that the Chester Step technique is a valid predictor of aerobic capacity in males and females from a wide range of ages and fitness levels. The following study is to establish whether there is an increase in the heart rate of healthy female individuals. Methodology The method used for the study was quantitative, this was chosen rather than a qualitative as this deals with facts and figures and is an investigatory type of study. This can be either experimental or non experiment. Experimental is the method used in this study which looks at cause and effect, and involves dependent and independent variables. (Balnaves and Caputi, 2001) A qualitative study can be described as interpretive which deals with personal thoughts and feelings (Flick, 2009). The participants for this study were recruited from the University of Huddersfield which consisted of seven female students. • 9. God Is The Creator Of All People, And The Israelites The modern Christian religion tells each of its followers that God loves us all, sinners and innocents alike, if only we would accept God into our hearts. But how true is that statement? While God is the creator of all people, and the Israelites are supposed to be his chosen people, God does not act as such in the Bible. Rather than being interested in humanity in general, or even the Israelitesspecifically, God is primarily interested in certain individuals. These works suggest that even God has favorites. As soon as Adam and Eve disobey God, he bans them from the garden of Eden. God drives out man and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life and to the entrance to the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24). These people may have been cared for by God, but by disobeying him, they lose God s favor, showing that it was only favor that Adam and Eve had to begin with. Even the Israelites, God s chosen people, are only briefly in God s favor, and that is not as a result of any inherent interest in this group of people, but rather because the majority of God s favorite individuals arise from this group. The people of Israel were overcome by the Egyptians and the Egyptians thus set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens (Exodus 1:11). The Israelites groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help and only then God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob (Exodus 2:23; Exodus 2:24). God had forgotten about the people he promised to provide prosperity for in the future. In addition, God does not remember the covenant as being with the Israelite peoples, but with his favorites of the previous generations, i.e. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Furthermore, rather than choosing to then save all of the Israelites with the power God obviously
  • 10. Summary Of Cherokee Population Losses During The Trail Of... In the article, Cherokee Population Losses during the Trail of Tears: A New Perspective and a New Estimate, by Russell Thornton, the author uses specific mathematical techniques and historic data to reveal that the Cherokee Tribe suffered more losses on the Trail of Tears than historians have estimated in the past. In the 1830s, the United Statesgovernment issued a series of laws that forced Indians who resided in the southeastern part of the country to migrate westward towards new Indian territory. A few years prior, states passed laws that annexed Native Americans land and took away several of their fundamental rights. They were treated like complete savages and were looked down upon by nearly every American since colonization of the land... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historians have been able to estimate that around 16,000 tribe members were removed from their homes to start the migration (Thornton 293). Therefore, with previous data being that 4,000 Cherokee members were killed, it can be concluded that around 1/4 of the migrators died. Despite these numbers being complete estimates due to the lack of clear facts and resources that are available, Thornton believes that demographic analysis could strengthen the estimates and make them more accurate. Thornton found that in 1835, the Cherokee population was 16,542. After this year, there was no access to population records until 1850 (Thornton 294). This lack of data could cause inaccuracies, but a prediction is still possible. Thornton created a data table of the population from 1808 to 1835, and then from 1850 to 1880. The year that was needed in order to determine the tribe loss was 1840, due to the fact that the removal began in 1838 and didn t fully end until 1840. Thornton was then able to make a graph from the population data he had obtained. This graph was thus able to make an estimate that the population in 1840 was around 13,032. With this number, Thornton could subtract the estimated population in 1838 (23,170) from the estimated population in 1840. This would give him the number 10,138, which represented the difference between the periods, or his number for

In the eighty seven years since its birth, the American daytime soap opera has entertained the masses through a great depression, two World Wars, and 15 Presidents. The programs go by the moniker soap operas because the first producers and sponsor of the programs were soap manufacturers such as Proctor and Gamble (Allen, 1985). Such celebrities include; Demi Moore, Meg Ryan, and Brad Pitt, just to name a few (Barnes, B., Instyle.com). Furthermore, some established A list actors and actresses seek out roles on soaps as fans of the show themselves. One example is the case of Elizabeth Taylor seeking out a role on General Hospital in the 1980 s. Naturally, Gloria Monte, General Hospital head writer at that time, honored Taylor s wish and cast her in the role of Helena Cassadine (Ford, 2010). Similarly, General Hospital again created a role for James Franco in 2009 when he took on the part of Robert Franco an artist/serial killer. Finally, celebrities aside, soap operas, as an undeniable pop culture phenomenon, have been relevant and thus significant to countless everyday Americans and American households over the past eight plus decades. Soaps, originally designed to appeal to the average American, normally have at least one viewer in the midst of most families, while some families have several soap watchers, who make viewing a daily family ritual (Healy, 2012). Stay at home wives and mothers, the first target demographic of the daytime drama, historically felt the influence of soap operas first, then shared that influence with the rest of the family, often times without the rest of the family even realizing. One example of this is the number of children who share the name

The anterior cerebral arterysupplies bloodto the medial surface of the frontal and parietal blobs, while the middle cerebral supplies the lateral portions of the hemispheres and through branches that supply internal structures such as basal ganglia and internal capsule. As the blood branches out into these structures, the anterior cerebral arteries are connected to the anterior communicating artery. These connections form the anterior half of the circle

The quick moving aspects of movies make this form of art difficult for even the most thorough viewers to completely understand and analyze creating the component of invisibility in the art of film. This invisibility aspect is created by movie directors through transitional techniques which manipulates space and time before viewers. A common transitional technique used by directors is the fade out/fade out technique. If each state has different laws and there is no centralized government than there is no similarity between the states other than being on the same continent. The states have to remain united and have a strong central government so that all Americans have the same rights and laws that they are governed by. In light of the following documents and your knowledge of the 1820 s and 1830 s, to what extent do you agree with the Jacksonians view of themselves? Andrew Jackson began a whole new era in American history. Amongst his greatest accomplishments were evoking the common man to be interested in government and tailoring democracy to satisfy the same common man s needs. They began to call the public s attention to an oppression by the upper class through many different issues of the time, which was looked down upon by some, such as Daniel Webster in response to Jackson s bank veto. This dealt with the Bank War which was the primary economic dealing of the time in which President Jackson vetoed the recharter of the Bank of the United States. He did so because he found the bank unconstitutional and thought that it was a near monopoly that only benefited the rich. This stirred public support and brought the class issue to the forefront for many people. Although some looked upon Jackson s decision on the Bank as a bad one, the Jacksonians supported him because they saw it as an attempt to support equality and eliminate a monopoly in the hands of the elite rich. Another such instance that dealt with monopoly and equality of economic opportunity was the Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge case in 1837. In it, Chief Justice Taney ruled that new enterprises could not be confined by the implied privileges of old charters, in an effort to allow for competition and free enterprise. Political democracy was one of the resurfacing interests during the Jacksonian Era. Jacksonian Democrats saw it as their duty to protect the government run

Bertolt Brecht (1898 1956) offered a challenge to Aristotle s ancient approach to theatre as a spectator activity. He sought to stimulate the minds of his audience, integrating economics and politics into his plays, in hopes that those watching would respond with intellect, not emotion. As Eyre and Wright describe him, He was a brilliant man of the theatre, highly receptive to the avant garde of his day, quick to improve it and somewhat too precipitate to turn it into theory. He was a communist: not a left winger, not a liberal, nor a humanitarian. From his twenties onwards, he thought and worked in terms of Marxist dialectic and he really wasn t kidding. (Bicknell 2012) Over the course of his career, Brecht developed his so called epic theatre, in which narrative, montage, self contained scenes, and rational argument were used to create a shock of realization in the spectator. To create a distancing effect, Brecht promoted acting and staging that would merely demonstrate what was being portrayed, which gave the audience a more objective perspective on the action. In Brecht s plays, say Eyre and Wright, lucidity reigns: nothing is worse than a jumble of confused impressions. (Bicknell 2012) In terms of construction, Brecht explains that epic drama does not lead to an inevitable

I heard a subtle thmmp as the moon began to shine so slightly through the now barren trees outside my windows, brightened for a short moment by the electricity in the sky. Small droplets of water started appearing on the windows. Odd for this time of the year, for it had not been too long since they were frozen. I pointed myself in the direction of the only light I could see, unmistakably the town s lighthouse. However, it was difficult to be sure given my recent and regrettable actions. My mind seemed to betray me in a sense which caught me off guard. Nevertheless, the light was my only point to go on, so I began my short journey back to civilization. Nearing the edge of what now felt like a forest, I found my way to the lighthouse. Close by sat the small town, which came to me quickly compared to my trek through the marsh. • 47. Plants And Insects Have A Long History Together Plants and Insects There is no doubt that plants and insects have a long history together. It is an on going relationship that can be beneficial or detrimental to both parties, depending on the situation. Insects pollinate plants, in return the plants provide food for insects. But the relationship between the two isn t always so beneficial. Some insects can kill plants by taking away the essential nutrients away from the plant. There are also insects that are predators. The predator insects help the plants by getting rid of the insects that are killing the plant. There are some plants that have a natural pesticide in their chemical make up and can ward off unwanted bugs. There are other contributing factors to how much of an impact plants and insect have on each other. For example, there may be a plant in or near your garden that attracts insects that are harmful and once that insect is there, it will potentially migrate around to other plants in your garden. When an insect lands on a plant it picks up pollen, then the insect transfers it to another plant. This process is called pollination and is very important in the botanical world. Pollination allows plants to fertilize and reproduce. Some insects use the nectar and pollen of a plant as food. In this situation both plant and insects benefit. Yet, this isn t always the case. Generally one or the other gets the greater advantage. The biggest issue when it comes to plants and insects are the insects that

One of Alighieri s most famous works of art would be his poem called the Divine Comedy written in year 1320. The poem itself has a heavy Christian influence and it entails the journey of Dante, the protagonist as he travels through hell, purgatory and finally paradise. Additionally, the poem captures Dante s journey as he gets closer to god. As Dante first enters Inferno, (also known as hell), he meets Virgil, who is not only his mentor and guide throughout Dante s journey but Virgil is also known as one of the greatest poets of all time. On this journey in hell with Virgil, Dante comes across many souls who have committed sins in their life but even then, Dante enables them to speak and share their stories. The Inferno is a part of the Divine Comedy in which the reader meets multiple sinners, such as Francesca, Paolo, Ugolino and Pope Nicholas III who receive the chance to reiterate their story to Dante, and become fortunate enough that Dante decides to include their story in his poem, giving them the prospect of becoming immortal. When I began reading the Divine Comedy I realized that Dante truly takes the time to hear what the souls want to say regarding their punishment in hell. As I read further on into purgatory, I observed that only in hell, Dante continuously emphasizes on people sharing their stories with him in each canto. Essentially there is a repeating pattern in the inferno regarding gaining

The Motif Of Entrapment By Edith Wharton Executive Order 9066, passed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1942, forced all Japanese Americans to pack up their lives and move to internment camps, a place where they would live in shabby barracks and get treated unfairly by guards. This order confineded the American citizens in heinous camps for up to three years. Because of their heritage, which could be as little as one sixteenth Japanese, the citizens were obligated to move; they became trapped in these camps where unhappiness was present in every aspect of life. Similarly, in the novel Ethan Frome, the title character is trapped in his unhappy life due to marriage, family, property, and financial liabilities. The author, Edith Wharton uses the motif of entrapment to prove how obligations lead to unhappiness throughout the novel. Ethan Frome and his wife, Zenobia (Zeena), never really know what true love feels like because they are both very lonely people. They meet when Zeena is caring for Ethan s mother; due to their loneliness, they mistake the bizarre feeling of companionship for love. There is no specific occasion, although the poem does mention that the speaker did not have enough time to travel both roads on that one day. The setting of the poem in time is told in the line Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), it tells us that the setting is autumn, because the leaves are changing, and have turned yellow. The setting in place is a forest, although it Frost does not specify where the forest is. In this poem, I believe the theme is that you have to jump at an opportunity when you get it, or you may never get that opportunity again. Moving on to the tone of the poem, I believe that it is wistful, and that the speaker might be looking back on his days, and realizing that he taking the other road might have made all of the difference in his life. There is very good diction in this poem, as some words express Frost s feeling more than other s would ve. For example, in the line Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, (1), Frost really emphasizes the two roads separating from each other. In another line In leaves no step had trodden black (12), trodden is a more appropriate than another word such as crushed or pulverized, because it is the past form of trod, or to step in something, and gives an image of human feet stepping on the freshly fallen leaves.
