Philosophy Vs Religion Research Paper
Reading a chapter from a book based on how philosophy differs from science and religion. In a
way it does not, they are really the same. They just use different terminology in how they discipline
is expressed. For example, the scientific method is how the scientist comes to a conclusion, just
how philosophers ask certain questions to prove their debates or theories. Religion, on the other
hand, is more closely related to philosophybecause both deal with beliefs and faith base systems.
In the early days of philosophy, philosophers like galileo, Socrates, and Plato were they early
scientist of their day. Philosophy and science differ in many aspects. Science more based on
morality. When scientists take on a scientific endeavor their interest... Show more content on

Religion, on the other hand, looks at philosophy as it prodigy and also its own personal antagonist.
Religion is more about should searching, and not empirical investigations. if someone wants to
know more about god, there most meaningful insight will come through prayer, meditation, and self
revelation. Science cannot deal with the idea of incarnation that god became Jesus, and philosophy
has yet to debate it. Science and philosophy can t deal with the methods of religious issues.
Religion, however, possess the answer to understanding the reality of philosophy and science.
Philosophy and religion do have something in common that neither has a method for searching
out god. Both disciplines are cognitive endeavors in how they reach their end goal. Through the
existence of man philosophy, science, and religion have changed through the centuries. We can t
be blinded by the principal of discipline but most remember that science is not philosophy or
religion, and religion is not science or philosophy. How we have our own ways of looking at the
world. The disciplines themselves have their own ways of viewing the world and how the world

Human Impacts on the Environment
Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification
Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a
sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the
marine biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life.
The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved
under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial
Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture
have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. Excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropogenic emissions over the past 200 years have caused ocean acidity levels to increase by
40 %(Ocean Studies Board, 2010). Without major intervention and significant reduction of the
global carbon footprint this will result in severe and irreversible damage to ecosystems and
organisms ocean wide.
Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and
elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other
marine systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and
acidification has effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. These processes
are key for zooplankton and phytoplankton composition.
Humans are provided with a variety of services from marine ecosystems, such as protection from
erosion and coastal flooding, seafood, nutrient cycling and natural products. As acidification
progresses, these precious assets are likely to disappear. Should we choose to, there is both the
technology and the economic potential to ensure a discernible decrease in carbon dioxide
emissions. This is a far preferable and effective alternative to suggestions of geoengineering, with
many proposed strategies failing to address the root cause of acidification (Royal Society, 2005).
The longer it is taken to find a combative strategy, the greater the legacy of environmental

Depressants Their Effects
Depressants and Their Effects In today s world people are becoming more and more dependant on
drugs, in particular, depressants. By definition, a depressant is a chemical agent that diminishes the
function or activity of a specific part of the body. There are many different types of depressants
ranging from sleeping medications to laughing gas, and of course the most common, alcohol. Like
all medications, there are the legal and illegal types. Heroin, marijuana, and GHB which is
commonly used as a date rape drug, are among the illegal depressants. Ambien and Benadryl are
legal depressants when prescribed by a doctor. They are usually prescribed to relieve symptoms of
anxiety and insomnia. The effects of taking depressants can slow... Show more content on

There are several types of illegal depressants that can be found around the world. One of the most
common illegal depressant is cannabis, also known as marijuana, weed, pot, hash, etc. Cannabis
can cause a hallucinogenic effect if consumed in large quantities. Opium and drugs derived from it
fall into the same category as cannabis but is more addictive which may cause more health
problems. Long term use of these substances can lead to problems and complications associated
with memory, concentration, and motivation. Heroin, also known as smack, skag, or hammer, is
also an illegal depressant. This drug is among other strong pain killer drugs, such as morphine,
called analgesics. The long term use of these drugs can lead to heart and lung problems. Other
problems include tetanus and damaged veins from injections. The unknown purity of heroin puts
users at risk for overdose. Each time a user shoots up , they may think that they are injecting the
same amount as before, but it may be more potent which can be lethal. Gamma hydroxyl butyrate,
commonly known as GHB, a date rape drug is also an illegal depressant. GHB also has street
names such as liquid x or liquid ecstasy. It is typically a colorless, odorless liquid with a slightly
salty taste. This allows individuals to slip it without notice to another person. Its effects may include
nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, and visual disturbances. It may

Class Enhanced My Critical Thinking Skills
I feel that this class has taught me to think differently about the world around me. This class has
taught me to not only think differently but also to listen to the thoughts of others and how they feel
about certain topics and to not judge them but to take their thought into consideration when I think
about the same thing. Overall I feel that this class has enhanced my critical thinking skills and
made me more prepared for the adult world and all of the decisions that come with it. The critical
thinking skills that I have gained this semester would have to be not just going along with what
someone believes but challenging it to see why they believe that and why one should have the same
beliefs that they do. This semester has taught me that

The During Battle And The War Wars
From the beginning of time, war has been used to conquer lands, establish order, enforce rules and
settle disagreements. Over time, war tactics have progressed and become more organized and
efficient in accomplishing the goal of defeating the enemy. There are thousands of advances in
strategies used during battle and the war wars are fought are have constantly changed. Looking
back to when organized war truly began many distinct, and commonly used, improvements can be
seen. Such as, chariots, hoplites, phalanxes, war elephants, and siege engines. Humans have always
been fascinated with speed and are constantly seeking ways to move faster. The invention of the

The walls of the chariot, or the box, were generally leather with a lightweight wooden frame.
Within the box were two men, a driver and a warrior. Projecting from the chariot was a long pole
angled upward and attached to a yoke , which was mounted on the horses backs. At first there
were two horses pulling each chariot, it is believed later on the setup was changed to fit four
horses. On the right side of the chariot, the driver s job was to control the horses and to get the
warrior in the best position to make his attacks. His attacks could be made with a bow and arrow,
spear, mace, sword or dagger, however the bow was normally a prime choice for the average
warrior. A typical warrior riding into battle was in full armor and ready to defend his chariot at all
costs. The use of chariots spread very quickly as their effectiveness was easily recognizable. The
Shang of China adopted the concept of chariots and modified them to fit three men. These three
men were made up of a driver, a warrior and his servant whose role was to replenish his arrows and
have weapons ready for his use at all times. In the Chinese culture, the chariots were used as a way
to jump into a new social class as well. Horses were so rare to own and expensive to acquire that
only the few who were wealthy enough to buy horses were able to be noble

American Horror Story Evaluation
American Horror Story Evaluation
When it comes to a show I always look for something lighthearted. In my opinion the best shows
are the ones that are funny, a bit relatable, have great character development, and overall just
uplift your spirits. Shows like this are hard to come by; there are some old ones that I ve come to
enjoy such as Friends and The Office, but lately I have yet to find a show that fits my normal
preferences. I have spent months watching Friends over and over again, but that gets boring after a
while, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and find a show I wouldn t usually watch. I
decided to try American Horror Story completely aware that it doesn t fit into what I normally
look for. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the show. It s has some scary moments, but nothing too
horrifying. The setting, mood, music, characters, and general atmosphere of the show is meant
to give a spooky vibe and does just that, but it also goes much deeper and appeases all kinds of
audiances. The American Horror Story wasn t created to be funny, and while it has its moments,
for the most part it s not. However, it is very engaging. It draws you in with the characters and
their development. It s oddly relatable. Rape, miscarriage, suicide, homicide, drugs, and all kinds of
other issues are talked about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

into it. But if you can get past those things, it is a really great show. It is very intriguing and has
a complex plot. The characters become like a family to you. As someone who is very picky about
what she watches, I am completely in love with this show. I will continue to watch it as long as it

Literary Devices In A Prayer For Owen Meany
When reading John Irving s, A Prayer for Owen Meany, he uses a plethora of literary devices and
techniques. Out of the list that he displays in this novel, there are three elements that really draw
through the entire piece. These being: foreshadowing, irony, and setting. The three listed are the
devices Irving uses to the most extent and impact the story more than all the others. Foreshadowing
is the clearest to spot throughout the chapters. Launching in the second chapter, The Armadillo,
was when Owen Meany first came across as a Christ figure. Johnny s cousins come to 80 Front
Street to visit for Thanksgiving and Owen Meany is upstairs in the attic with Johnny. Hesitantly,
Johnny introduces the cousins to Owen, scared of how they ll treat Owen, or how they ll treat
Johnny for being friends with him. After the cousins declare how wimpy Owen is and make fun of
his voice, they see Owen in the attic with his arms behind his back (being armless) and the sun
shining from behind him, making him look like the ultimate Christ figure. Hester even stated to
Johnny that she didn t even think he was human. Johnny connects Owen to God, thinking that there
is no doubt that, in the dazzling configurations of the sun that poured through the attic in skylights,
he look looked like a descending angel a tiny but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of symbolism could even be Owen Meany representing Christ or Johnny s guardian
angel who ends up cutting off Johnny s trigger finger for his protection from the draft to Vietnam.
Armlessness is also a symbol that Irving utilizes through out the entire novel, with different objects
and characters representing the disadvantages of missing a body part or the helplessness of some
people, or relationships with God and surrendering to their beliefs. These people include Lydia s
amputated leg, Johnny s finger, Tabitha s dressing dummy, and many others mentioned through out

Bayesian Learning Essay examples
BAYESIAN LEARNING
Abstract
Uncertainty has presented a difficult obstacle in artificial intelligence. Bayesian learning outlines a
mathematically solid method for dealing with uncertainty based upon Bayes Theorem. The theory
establishes a means for calculating the probability an event will occur in the future given some
evidence based upon prior occurrences of the event and the posterior probability that the evidence
will predict the event. Its use in artificial intelligence has been met with success in a number of
research areas and applications including the development of cognitive models and neural networks.
At the same time, the theory has been criticized for being philosophically unrealistic and
logistically inefficient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They allow intelligent systems flexibility and a logical way to update their database of
knowledge. The appeal of probability theories in AI lies in the way they express the qualitative
relationship among beliefs and can process these relationships to draw conclusions (Pearl, 1988).
One of the most formalized probabilistic theories used in AI relates to Bayes theorem. Bayesian
methods have been used for a variety of AI applications across many disciplines including cognitive
modeling, medical diagnosis, learning causal networks, and finance.
Two years after his death, in 1763, Rev. Thomas Bayes Essay Toward solving a Problem in the
Doctrine of Chances was published. Bayes is regarded as the first to use probability inductively
and established a mathematical basis for probability inference which he outlined in this now
famous paper. The idea behind Bayes method is simple; the probability that an event will occur
in future trials can be calculated from the frequency with which it has occurred in prior trails. Let
s consider some everyday knowledge to outline Bayes rule: where there s smoke, there s fire. We
use this everyday cliche to suggest cause and effect. But how are such relationships learned in and
from everyday experience? Conditional probability provides a way to estimate the likelihood of
some outcome given a particular situation. Bayes theorem further refines this idea by incorporating

Barbary War Analysis
With every conflict discussed there were social, economic, and political factors that reflected onto
the future of another event. Through the education and analyzation of the effects, the people of
Earth can develop preventative and preparatory measures to reduce conflict. Preventative being
methods of preventing conflict from occurring at all, and preparatory being measures to prepare for
conflict so that little harm occurs. All that has to be done is the analyzation of the past. In the
Barbary Wars, America was targeted due it its unprotected state. This reflects onto how Somalia
was taken advantaged of due to its weakened government. This can then be translated into how if a
nation appears weak, another nation will try to undermine it. America,... Show more content on

Thus, by being presented as strong and dangerous, a country is less likely to be attacked. From
this, a cycle forms, if the Somali pirates continue to bully other nations, the other nations will
then fight back like America did against Tripoli, and in the end demonstrate their power. This
helps lead into the explanation for the decline of Somali Piracy since 2012. In preparing for
conflict it is important to recognize the signs of conflict. Such as repressed people, which mostly
occurs as a result of a monarchy or those who do not have their opinions heard. Hence, America in
the revolution war declaring its independence and America in the Barbary War demonstrating its
strength and will to not be terrorized again. Once the signs are recognizing preventative measures
can be taken to reduce the conflict or overall stop it at its source. Such as turning from a rule of
monarchy into one of democracy where people will have their voices heard and acknowledge.
Through the strengthened support of the people, the country/nation will be on a better ground and
improve its reputation. Such as how America had the support of their people during the Barbary
War and through its victory developed a strong, prominent, and well supported

Throughout history being heavyset was an indicator of wealth, while being skinny was closely

traits like laziness, sloppiness, and not having self control. Even though they are associated with
unfavorable characteristics, the obesity overweightrates are continuously rising. Approximately
sixty percent of Americans are currently overweight; about twenty seven percent are clinically

U.S. Antidumping Duties on Shrimp Imported from Thailand
U.S. antidumping duties on shrimp imported from Thailand
Summary:
The case happened because US shrimpers call for end GSP. The largest seafood associations in
the US tried to lobby campaign in Washington to cut generalized system of preference (GSP)
privileges to Thailand. They want the US congress to look into Thailand s business practices.
They said Thai shrimp imports have been a serious problem for us and shrimp farmers across the
US for years, and we need to bring attention to the issue and the country s business practices.
However, Thailand is already undertaking action to the WTO against the US for this action.

According to WTO, zeroing is a calculation method that ignores negative margin of dumping. To
know more, see appendix 1 on how it s calculated. As a result, it causes an unfair increase of
dumping liability of exporter (WTO, n.d.). Therefore, Thailand brought this case to WTO, and this
case is very similar to the Ecuador s case which has been judged before as unfair.
My perspective
From the previous result, I quite agree with the decision made by the panel that imposing tariff
calculated by using zeroing method, as a reason of antidumping, is unfair because of the following
reasons.
According to Article VI of GATT, during the Uruguay Round, antidumping means charging extra
import duty on a product in order to bring its price closer to the fair value or to help domestic
industries from injury. Also, you need to calculate the extent of dumping, investigate the impact to
importing countries, and look into all economic factors that could affect before you can impose
tariff (definition, n.d.).
According to Free Trade Organization, Dan Ikenson, policy analyst, claims Few trade policies
engender more bitterness and international ill will than the U.S. antidumping law. For many years,
that law has been the weapon of choice among domestic producers seeking to quell import
competition. (zeroing, April 27, 2004)
According to the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade, at the Uruguay Round, states This
agreement will extend and clarify

Proposal Essay Depression
Depression can move in on a person quickly or creep in like a fog. It can be a visceral experience,
like a blow to the gut or a heavy burden suddenly pressing down on one s shoulders.
It can affect one s experience of the world: if it s sunny outside, somehow it seems dull and cold; if
it s gray, the gray gets heavier.
Have you ever been depressed? How do you stand against it; how do you push back the gray veil?
How do you cope with depression and even work to break out of it?
First, it s important to know the difference between the winter blues, an occasional down day, a
week when you re just feeling off, and longer lasting, biologically based depression.

I do recommend anything by Bill Withers, especially the soulful Lean on Me ( Sometimes in our
lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow, but if we are wise, we know that there s always

One song that always cheers me is Dobie Gray s Drift Away ( And when I m feeling blue, a guitar
s comin through to sooth me. Thanks for the joy that you ve given me... ). Sometimes music can be
used as a catalyst, something through which to channel your anger (depression can stem from deep
anger [McCrary 1998]) and pain. For that, I recommend Mary J. Blige s No
More Cryin from her The Breakthrough album (2005). Other songs I recommend from that album
are Take Me As I Am and Good Woman Down. Finally, because depression can also stem from
fear, I recommend listening to Mindkiller, by Adam Freeland off of his Now and
Them album (2004). Blast this song and remind yourself that, as the lyrics say, Fear is the mind
killer. Going for a drive in your car can also be a distraction from the depression, as long as you feel
safe in handling the vehicle. You can take your music with you, head east, then turn back toward
the Front Range to give yourself full view of the area s jagged, snow covered peaks. Or

Obesity Is A Bad Addiction
Obesity is anabnormal accumulation of body fat, usually 20% or more over an individual s
ideal body weight. Obesity is associated with increased risk of illness, disability, and death.
National Health recommends 2000 kcal per day; of course it varies by people s physical
engagement activity. Nowadays there are loads of statistics which show that the substantial cause
of obesity is not extensive intake of food, but lack of exercises and intake of fatty and sugary
food. For instance, 30 years ago people used to eat more than today, yet they were more physically
active and they ingested more quality food.
Obesity is certainly a bad addiction, it is one of the most common bad habits, because it is easily
accessible and it is cheap. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indirect tax it tax that increases the price of a good, so that consumers are actually paying the tax
by paying more for the products. An indirect tax is most often thought of as a tax that is shifted
from one taxpayer to another, by way of an increase in the price of the good. Fuel, liquor and
cigarette taxes are all considered examples of indirect taxes, as many argue that the tax is actually
paid by the end consumer, by way of a higher retail price. Those taxes include VAT and duties.
There are some arguments that those taxes can be either positive or negative to economic
progression.
As we can see there are two different types of indirect taxes. One is inelastic and other is elastic.
They differ because of their steepness of grading, representing the demand curve. In this case
sugar would be some kind of hybrid, because it is not fully addiction substance, but many people
can t imagine day without one. When the demand is inelastic consumer have to spend more money
on the tax than producer, which makes government to raise most revenue. However this would
decrease a really small percent of consumers, which will not be willing to buy this item. So this
would allow government to set up gradually higher prices and there would be obvious increase in
the country revenue, which will allow government to spend more money and to cover all the cost of
the sugar consumption.
Tax incidence is an economic term for the division of a tax burden between

Essay On Gustav Koch
Gustav Koch is a dissonance loving composer in the contemporary classical music scene of the
future who is preparing to have his pieces performed by a group of musicians on the planet Vetros.
This celestial body solely comprises an eminent concert hall. In spite of Koch artistic ambitions, he
is living under the shadow of death; during rehearsals, his performers die one by one. Charley is
baffled by Koch s phraseology as used in this concert s programme notes which the Doctor
intercepted. Explaining that his compositions contain pre Wagnerian dodecaphony with Mozartian
phrases, thus incorporating asymmetrical passages with an oxymoronically balanced contour, Koch
then apologises by stating that as cumbrous as this is, no shorthand... Show more content on

Christian Beliefs
As a Christian school, we must come up with a list of statements that describe who we are and
what we believe. As Christians, there are certain doctrines that we believe in like the doctrine of
the Bible or the doctrine of the church. From the WCS statement of faith, I chose three statements
to interview my pastor about. The first one I choose stated that: We believe in the present
indwelling ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose intercessory and sanctifying work continually renews
the Christian and enables him to live a godly life in conformity with the Scripture. (John 14:15 17)

one of the main ones. The Pentecost is a Christian holiday that... Show more content on

The LGBTQ+ community has been expressing themselves more and more over these past few

not entirely true, yes SOdom and Gamosahr was a very very sinful place but it was destroyed
because God could not find one righteous person. Genesis 18:22 33 The men turned away and

I Interviewed A Former Babysitter Of Mine
For this assignment, I interviewed a former babysitter of mine, DL. DL is 25 years old and is
deaf. She has a hearing aid and a cochlear implant. I reached out to her on Facebook and asked her
if I could interview her for the assignment; I sent her the list of questions and she sent the answers
back to me.
She does not remember noticing that she couldn t hear; her guess is that her hearing loss was
from birth and very gradual, so she never noticed and thought it was normal as a kid. Her parents
noticed something was off by the age of 3 she had a severe language delay, didn t do well with
verbal instruction, and was extremely quiet and shy. She does not know the cause of her hearing

She thinks the most helpful thing a person has said to her about her hearing loss came from her
resource teacher (who was also part of the DHOH program). She says, I was writing an
autobiography for my homework assignment and I started it off with I m DL and I m hard of
hearing and my teacher gently corrected me and told me that I now had severe to profound
hearing loss and was considered Deaf. It was the first time someone explained the level of my
hearing loss (even though it was in simplistic terms) and it proved to be a catalyst for my Deaf
identity today.
DL got her first hearing aid at 5. Her father put in the hearing aids every day when she was young
until she was assigned a teacher to help her practice putting in the hearing aids. The teacher was
a DHOH specialist who pulled her out of class weekly to practice how to use the hearing aid,
changing batteries, and lip reading skills. She was considered a better candidate for hearing aids
since she had a mild hearing loss when she was younger and not deemed a good fit for surgical
intervention since hearing aids was the least invasive procedure for hearing.
Eventually, DL decided to get a cochlear implant. She started to realize that her hearing loss was
progressive; she went from a mild hearing loss at 33 dB to severe to profound hearing loss at 95
dB. At that time she had mostly

The American Education System
There are many life issues and affairs people have to adapt too while maturing and growing up.
These could include: learning about what kind of person they aspire to be, where they have the
desire to live, or what it s like to pay bills. Yet, when and where does one learn to digest all this
information? Certainly not in the American educationsystem. Research suggests that Leon Botstein
s claim rules of high school are not the rules of life and that schools need to bring more real world
into them is true and that the American educational system needs to be revised and refined.
Bostein s idea of intensifying real world issues/situations in young pupils learning experience would
prepare them for the future. To demonstrate, Diane Ravitch a former Assistant Secretary of
Education and research professor of education at New York University says that We want to prepare
them for a useful life... Think for themselves when they are in the real world (Source 5). The author
s idea here is parallel to Bostein s idea that the real world needs to get involved with the schools
now. Students wouldn t just be learning math or history classes that they might not use extensively
in the future. Students would instead be getting hands on experience to see what they like or may
not like to have a successful future. Additionally, Todd Gilton, an author and university professor,
states that students are Ill prepared to learn and that A strong liberal arts curriculum could teach
them about their history, their social condition, themselves (Source 2). He helps the readers see that
the American education is not setup properly and that there should be an adjustment in curriculum.
Gitlin suggests that educators should focus less on the math and sciences, although those are
pertinent, and put more focus on real world situations. These situations could include bills, jobs,
etc. He helps the reader picture what a strong liberal arts curriculum would do for the pupils future:
it would allow them to get a grasp on what they appreciate and what they want to do in the future to
become prosperous. In conclusion, adding real world situations and issues into schools curriculums
would aid students into a more fulfilling future.

The Definition Of A Freedom Fighter
With the presidential election looming, much has been in the news lately about terrorists groups
such as ISIS, the militia uprising in Oregon, and the fighting in the Middle East. With all of the
candidates spouting their opinions, it is hard to know what to believe. How is one to know if the
groups fighting in these areas are terrorists or freedom fighters? To fully understand, once must
first define all the terms involved in classifying groups as freedom fighters. Once these concepts
are defined, one can attempt to define what the term freedom fighter means and use that definition
as a basis for classifying groups as terrorists or freedom fighters. The classical definition of a
freedom fighter according to the Miriam Webster Dictionary is a person who takes part in a
resistance movementagainst an oppressive political or social establishment (Freedom Fighter).
Note that this definition does not state what type of resistance is involved: it does not require
the resistance to by of a violent nature. Perhaps the key word in this definition is oppression.
Typically, an oppressed people are different in some way than the majority of the people in a
nation. Though, sometimes, as in India during use of the caste system, the majority were the
oppressed at the mercy of the minority who held the power. Oppression occurs when the ruling
people use their power to ignore and/or abuse the basic civil rights of a people. It also occurs when
one group has privilege such that they

Non Aboriginal People In Canada
During the first half of the 20th century the western countries experienced what was called the
Great War, commonly known today as the First World War (WWI). There were 330,000 men and
women that served (WWI) for Canada, some of whose experiences were very diverse. Aboriginal
men who served in the war suffered great inequality because of racism.
Aboriginal people living in Canada were recruited to fight in WWI for a variety of reasons.
Although some of these reasons for recruitment were different than non aboriginal people. If you
were non Aboriginal you would be able to join the war if you were an adult Canadian citizen.
However if you were Aboriginal you couldn t join even if you meet these requirements due to the
racism against Aboriginals.

Overview of the Natural Gas Industry
Natural Gas Industry Employee
Cover Letter
I am currently working as a natural gas regulator assistant inspector on a full time basis. Basically
this position required me to work in a formal apprenticeship, and I was trained and became
familiarized with all the important particulars of this job.
What my trainers made very clear to me is the importance of workers in the natural gas industry
having a deep understanding of all the implications relating to safety. There have been some
catastrophic explosions due to leaking gas pipelines in recent years, and energy companies want to
hire people that are very alert, intelligent, and who are willing to learn and be good listeners during
training and once on the job.
I am one of those quality employees. I feel fortunate to have this position, and moreover, I have
conducted research into the industry giving particular attention to the specifics of my own job,
duties and responsibilities and I present that information through this report. Learning well,
following directions, and being competent are things my family taught me, and I do believe I am
well suited for my position and will be able to climb the ladder and be given more responsibility
as time goes by and my supervisors become confident in my aptitude and my work ethic.
Abstract
The position of a natural gas regulator assistant inspector is a very important position because in
addition to the quality assurance and economic aspects, there are important safety aspects

Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol Essay
In Savage Inequalities, Jonathan Kozol describes the conditions of several of America s public
schools. Kozol visited schools in neighborhoods and found that there was a wide disparity in the
conditions between the schools in the poorest inner city communities and schools in the wealthier
suburban communities. How can there be such huge differences within the public school system of
a country, which claims to provide equal opportunityfor all? It becomes obvious to Kozolthat many
poor children begin their young lives with an education that is far inferior to that of the children
who grow up in wealthier communities. Savage Inequalities provides strong evidence of the
national oppression that is endemic in the American system. Focusing... Show more content on

Kozol recalls how these people would have been vilified during the social movements of the 60s,
but when he was writing this book, in the early 1990s, these attitudes seemed commonplace. Even
the youth in the wealthier schools had lots of excuses to explain why they deserved better schools
than kids sometimes living within a few miles.
Kozol describes conditions the clearly violate the landmark court decision in Brown vs. Board
of Education (No. 1, SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES, 347 U.S. 483; 74 S. Ct.

the desegregation of schools in America. Towns close enough to easily integrate face almost total
segregation with abysmal conditions in the Black and/or Latino schools and tremendously good
resources in the white schools.
Although the statistics are more than 10 years out of date, the reality of America school
segregation has not changed. The barely functional buildings, lack of up to date text books (or in
many cases any text books), overcrowded classes, non existent lab and computer equipment, and
low paid teachers create a situation of despair that leads to a drop out rate of more than 50% in
many districts. And even those who graduate are

Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream Essay
Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream
Our understanding of Edward Albee s achievement in The American Dream (1960) has come a
long way since 1961 when Martin Esslin hailed it as a brilliant first example of an American
contribution to the Theatre of the Absurd 1 and 1966 when Nicholas Canaday, Jr. labeled it
America s best example of what has come to be known as the theatre of the absurd. 2
The shrewdest assessment of absurdism in Albee is by Brian Way, who shows convincingly that,
although Albee has successfully mastered the techniques of theatrical absurdism, he has
nevertheless shied away from embracing the metaphysics that the style implies.3 That is, Albee
knows that Theatre of the Absurd is an absorption in art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Albee s title, on the other hand, is rich in intellectual and moral substance, since it refers to a host
of ideas and feelings associated with the fondest hopes of participants in the American experience,
both historic and contemporary. The title is also a fitting thematic label for the play since the
dialogue explicitly refers to the American Dream after the Young Man appears on stage. Ionesco s
title like all titles, an authorial comment on the text rightly says that the play lacks meaning; Albee
s says that it refers to a lot of meaning.
That meaning is most obviously associated with the Young Man, since he is specifically identified
as the American Dream by the dialogue of the play. The less obvious but more important meaning is
embodied in Grandma. The goal of this essay will be to clarify how Grandma s character and
experience bear most of the meaning of the American Dream that Albee wants to communicate in
this play. As we shall see, that meaning fits squarely within the mainstream American humanist
tradition stretching back to the early, idealistic years of the American republic.
Even though she is a physical disaster, many critics have noticed various kinds of attractive
qualities in Grandma. Don D. Moore finds her the most appealing, the most refreshing and the
wisest figure in the play. 8 Canaday, who has written the most about Grandma, praises her for her

John Dewey Philosophy
A philosopher is known as someone who rationally investigates the truths and principles of being,
knowledge and conduct (Howe , 2010). According to (Justarius, 2007), A philosopher looks at the
world in wonder. He seeks the underlying meaning of things. He wants to understand it and codify
it into a system of thought. Being a philosopher means to engage in the never ending quest for
being fully and authentically human (Kimura, 2013). In the world today, there are many
philosophers that have walked this planet. John Dewey is one of the most important Philosophers
that has contributed his theory to the world.
John Dewey was born October 20, 1859, in Burlington, Vermont. He taught at universities from

Dewey thought that people learn the best through experiences. He believed that learning was active
and schooling unnecessarily long and restrictive. His idea was that children came to school to do
things and live in a community which gave them real, guided experiences which fostered their
capacity to contribute to society (Neill, 2005). Instrumentalism is a theory of knowledge created by
Dewey in which ideas are seen to exist primarily as instruments for the solution of problems
encountered in the environment. He thought knowledge could be falsified which needed to be
consistently challenged and experimented on. He emphasized on inquiry based education (Bhuiyan,

The British had a major impact on the educational system in Trinidad and Tobago. The system

Pursuing A Career In School Psychology
The authors begin chapter three by explaining that there are commonly discrepancies among raters
and their ratings of child behavior. Moreover, these differences stem from the different
perceptions of the parents, teachers, children, and even the school psychologist. The differences
can also be attributed to the differences in the child s behavior across contexts. This information
is important to acknowledge and understand for many reasons. We are different. What a parent
might constitute as a poor behavior, might be seen as an acceptable behavior by the teacher. It all
goes back to culture and what each person truly believes to be important and/or meaningful. This
also made me think of other courses that we have taken where we were required to observe a child,
as well as operationally define a target behavior. The operational definition of the behavior helps to
ensure that anyone can observe the same behavior without confusion.... Show more content on

Social Control Theory Of Crime
Why does one conform? is often the key question Sociologists explore when studying the Social
Control theory of crime, as this theory is based around this concept (Orcutt, 2011.) Instead of
hypothesising the incentives behind those who participant in deviant behaviour, Sociological
theorists focus on the idea of social conformity (Orcutt, 2011.) Social Control is based on the
premise that those individuals who are strongly bonded to society through religious organizations,
families, peers, sports, community events, and other social institutions are less likely to participate

The Importance Of Teaching And Classroom Management
Throughout my time on professional placement not only was I given opportunities to teach, I was
also given opportunities to observe my mentor teacher and other teachers. Through these
observations I gained an understanding of multiple aspects of teaching and classroom management
that I would often miss or be unaware of during my own teaching. When analysing my
observations, there were a number of themes that stood out. However, it was the students that
interested me the most. The school is largely multicultural with over 35% of the school population
was born outside Australia in 52 different countries. When observing both theory and practical
classes, I noticed a wide range of abilities in physical terms including skill and fitness, as well as
cognitive abilities. On a number of occasions, I witnessed students lack of engagement with a taskor
activity, which would then in turn affect students motivation and ability to stay on track with the
task leading to off task behavior. Sallis and McKenzie (1991) argued that positive experiences in
PE could influence children to adopt physically active adult lifestyles which can improve public
health. It is, therefore, important to understand the motivational, cognitive, and affective processes
that can determine whether children will regard PE as a valuable, enjoyable, and rewarding
experience, or as a worthless, boring, and humiliating one. The following essay will reflect and

Thus, while the obligation regarding a genuine link was maintained in the 1958 Convention, the
proposal that the existence of a genuine link should be a basis for the recognition of nationality
was not adopt. Reasoning The conclusion of the Tribunal is that the purpose of the provisions
of the Convention on the need for a genuine link between a ship and its flag State is to secure
more effective implementation of the duties of the flag State, and not to establish criteria by
reference to which the validity of the registration of ships in a flag State may be challenged by
other State may be challenged. The tribunal reasoned that the Convention considers a ship as a
unit, as regards the obligations of the flag State with respect to the ship and the right of a flag
State to seek reparation for loss or damage caused to the ship by acts of other States and to
institute proceedings under Article 292 of the Convention. In the view of the tribunal, Saint
Vincent and the Grenadines is entitled to reparation for damage suffered directly by it as well as
for damage or other loss suffered by the Saiga, including all persons involved or interested in its
operation. In the light of the above considerations, the tribunal rejects

Persuasion
Persuasion Austen s Canonical Final Words
You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious
feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when
you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago... I have loved none but you.
― Jane Austen, Persuasion
It s a love story. A fairy tale ending, a quintessential marriage, and a happily ever after substantiates
this fact. So how is Jane Austen s last written novel, Persuasion, any different to the typical, clichГ©
romance? The secret lies in the pain of the journey. At the age of twenty seven, Anne Elliot; a
mediocre maiden mistreated by those closest to her, lost the bloom of youth and more importantly,
the love of her life. Eight years had passed since she was persuaded by her narcissistic family to
terminate her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a gallant naval captain born of low social status
and insufficient wealth. When they meet again, both have changed significantly. But amidst
flirtatious distractions and unexpected misadventures, the pair cannot deny the conjoined heartache
and love they felt exclusively for each other, despite the misfortunes of life.
Persuasion, written by Austen in her final days and published in 1817, is a novel possessing a
timelessness and raw nature which reflects early 19th century Britain in a way that resonates with
current modernistic society, thus justifying its inclusion in the Literary Canon.

Hunger Is A Moral And Humanitarian Crisis
Despite all the atrocities and problems that bedevil the world, what has always horrified me is the
hunger that exists amidst the world of so much plenty. Indeed, hunger exists even in the First World
countries, including the most advanced nation, the United States of America. It is inconceivable
how even the poorest nations allocate big portions of their budgets to military hardware and not
food production. Hunger is a moral and humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by unjust policies and
practices, market distortions caused by excessive financial speculation by the deviation of food
resources to produce energy (News VA).The overall effect is that the population of people who are
hungry is increasing, instead of decreasing, despite the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is more common on the streets where the homeless depend on the increasingly
unreliable Food Stamp for their upkeep. However, the countries that are most affected by
chronic are some of the most impoverished in the world. A good example is Honduras. The
Republic of Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America, with persistent poverty
and inequality challenges and a per capita income of about US$1,880 in 2010 (Rural Poverty
Portal). 62.8% of Hondurans live in poverty (World Bank, 2013).This puts Honduras in the
league of the least developed nations on earth. With a population of only eight million people, it
is surprising how the state has failed to channel funds to agricultural activities in order to feed
its small population comfortably. 62.8% of Hondurans live in poverty, and 6 out of 10 of
households are subject to extreme poverty of incomes of less than $1.25 per day (World Bank,
2013). This situation is replicated in almost every country that is at the bottom of economic food
chain. Still, the Honduras hunger story reads like a horror movie as it is affecting almost every
child born and brought up in the country. With one in every four children suffering from chronic
malnutrition, one doesn t have to look far in Honduras to find a child in desperate need of food
(World Food Programme). Obviously, this is a chilling statistics. And with shortage

The Colors of Othello Essay
The Colors of Othello
In Shakespeare s Othello, color imagery consistently appears throughout the text. The colors,
specifically black, white, and red, create symbolic and metaphoric meanings which contribute to
larger themes such as racial prejudice, good versus evil, sexuality, and murder. The colorsevoke
images in the characters minds, particularly Othello s. These images, along with their
corresponding idea or theme, influence the actions of the characters, culminating in the murder of
Desdemona by Othello.
References to black and white carry the most weight and contribute much to the actions of the
characters; those colors often are used as a comment on race, on good and evil, on sexuality, ...

Brabantio refers to Othello as a sooty bosom, following Iago s earlier racial image. He
stereotypes Othello, saying that magic must be involved or Desdemona, a fair or white woman,
never would have chosen a dark man, a sooty bosom, to marry. The black and white images placed
in Brabantio s mind influence his views on Othello, or he would not have pointed out Othello s
sooty bosom. These images that emphasize the colors are what keep him from accepting Othello.
Othello defends himself against Brabantio s accusations of magic, saying, Yet by your gracious
patience,/ I will a round unvarnished tale deliver/ Of my whole course of love (1.3.89 91). Othello
will tell the truth of what happened, and the tale will be unvarnished, or unglossed. He recognizes
that the ideas associated with his color are part of the problem, and he must defend himself against
racist beliefs. By telling an unvarnished tale, a tale

Persuasive Essay On The Value Of Cars
Million dollar cars go deeper than simply driving to and from work. It s for the same reasoning
that if someone were to ask why a car enthusiast owns five vehicle, he would say the reasons go
beyond the car itself. A heart felt passion for the lion s roar of the engine and the fact the upscale
luxury cars are an artful masterpiece on rolling wheels. Such priorities encapsulate the one
percent, and they purchase outrageously cool cars for their swagger and flamboyance over
efficiency and practicality. Here s a collection of some of the best road legal cars, but for the
purpose of clarity, the classic muscle cars sold at auction have slipped past this list.

The world s most expensive street legal car in production today, Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita costs
such an extravagant amount of dollars because the Swedish manufacturer literally coated it in
diamonds, making it one of the world s rarest supercars. The exterior finish technique could be
called the Koenigsegg Proprietary Diamond Weave. With that said, a touch up paint job probably
costs an unfathomable amount of dollars. Open the hood, and the V8 engine produces 1,004
horsepower with 797 lbs ft of torque. Not only is the Koenigsegg CCXR a work of art on wheels,
put the pedal to the metal and the driver will zip down the highway from zero to 60 in under 2.9
seconds, and the speeds reach in excess of 250 mph. That s one fiery speed demon!

Parallel life: The Yellow Wallpaper and Charlotte Perkins Gilman
I ve got out at last, said I, in spite of you and Jennie. And I ve pulled of the paper, so you can t put
me back! Now why should that man have fainted? But he did, and right across my path by the
wall, so that I had to creep over him every time! (Gilman 288).
In the short story The Yellow Wallpaper
, Charlotte Perkins Gilman used her personal experiences
with depression to create a powerful short story. Gilman indirectly wrote about her postpartum
depression treatment. She used her personal experiences to write a story so disturbing that it can
even make you feel like you are a losing it just reading it. Gilman s and the wife s life are so
similar that it makes the story even more thrilling.
1. About the Author
Charlotte Perkins Gilman was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 3, in 1860. She is the
daughter of Mary Fitch Westcott (Perkins), and Frederick Beecher Perkins. She had one brother
Thomas Adie, who was a year older then she was. At a young age her father left them, leaving his
family to struggle with poverty. The female headed family often depend on others to take them in
(Horowitz 8). Although her education suffered because of this, Charlotte was gifted with her
paternal side s ability to write. Her great aunt, Harriet Beecher Stowe, wrote Uncle Tom s Cabin.
Charlotte didn t blame her father for leaving them, but many times she put

Physics of Stars Essay examples
Stars are phenomenal glowing spheres that everyone has noticed in the night sky. Long ago they
were poorly understood. Today, with the help from astronomers, physicists, and other space
scientists, we have discovered a large amount of information about stars.
These huge balls of flaming gas have many different ranges of characteristics. We can observe the
many fascinating colors that may be displayed from stars. Some of them are not stars themselves,
but the trillions of fragments left behind after they explode into supernova (Moreau, 2000).
There is a huge variation in sizes of stars as well. They range from super giants to small dwarfs.
Most often their sizes correlate to their age or the particular cycle they are beginning to ... Show

These two diagrams show the action of subatomic particles smashing into each other creating other
elements and energy as a byproduct. Both of these pictures demonstrate the occurrence between the
most common elements, hydrogen and helium, undergoing fusion.
Sometimes when dealing with mathematical descriptions of specific phenomenon concerning stars
the complexity may become intense. However, we will explore common occurrences and changes
of stars that can be described by simple mathematical relationships.
One primary occurrence between stars that are approaching their later stages is a reduction in their
radius. This occurs when elements such as hydrogen and helium in the center of the star change into
gaseous iron from electron exchanges and other processes. Eventually the star becomes very dense
and the radius of the star is reduced. By the conservation of angular momentum in this case, the
velocity must increase due to the decreased radius (Kippenhahn, 194 95). Lets do a calculation to
show this.
By the conservation of angular momentum we get this equation: Ii wi = If wf, where Ii is the
initial moment of inertia, wi is the initial angular speed, and If and wf are the final products of
what I just listed. The moment of inertia of a sphere is (2/5)mR^2, where m is the mass and R is
the radius. Plugging these into the equation Ii wi = If wf, we get, (2/5)mRi^2 wi = (2/5)mRf^2 wf.

The Theories of Sigmund Freud Essay
Sigmund Freud, known as the father of psychology, has developed some of the first theories of
modern psychology. One of his well known theories is the structural model of the psyche.
According to Freud, most of what drives humans is buried in the unconscious mind. There are
three main forces that drive humans: the id, the ego, and the super ego. The id is the sum of
basic personal needs and desires. It is completely selfish and has no care for sensibility or reality.
It strives for what it wants, when it wants it with no other considerations and is primarily
concerned with sex. The second part of the personality is the ego. The ego is the realization of
reality. It is the ego s job to, in a sense, counteract the selfishness and... Show more content on

Emma spends her whole life searching for happiness and contentment. From the time she was a
school girl, reading romance and adventure novels, Emma began fantasizing about how she
wants her life to be. She dreams of prince charming in the form a refined gentleman coming to
sweep her off her feet. When she meets Charles, she thinks she has fallen in love and marries
him. Soon after the wedding though, she realizes that this is not what she has been expecting
from love. Charles is ordinary and dull and Emma is very unhappy in the relationship. When she
meets Leon, and realizes that she is attracted to him and she impulsively allows herself to fall for
him. Then, when she meets Rodolphe, she once again allows herself to be swept away and in
her id follows her desire for a romantic sexual relationship. The act is completely selfish and she
acts with no regard to her husband or her daughter Berthe. Emma is devastated when Rodolphe
leaves her but later becomes involved in another passionate affair with Leon. All of these things
are examples of her id being in control because she acts out of lust and sexual desire. Sexual
pleasure is not Emma s only way of attempting to make herself content with life. Material things
become very important to Emma. Her financials troubles begin the day that Monsieur Lheureux, a
dry goods merchant comes to visit. The

It is not a question of having more, or more significant, opportunities: the opportunity for me to
study is there now. Rather it is a question of being able to take advantage of the opportunity by
being in control of my life. Positive freedom in this example is a matter of my having the
capacity to take the rational option as well as having the opportunity: whereas, according to a
concept of negative freedom, the opportunities that I have alone determine the extent of my
freedom. I am free to study in the negative sense since no one is preventing me from doing it; no
one has locked away my books, or hidden my pen and paper; no one has dragged me out of the
door to go to the movies, or chained me to my easy chair in front of the television. However, I
am not free in the positive sense; I am not truly free, because I am a slave to my tendency to be
sidetracked. True positive freedom would involve seizing control of my life and making rational
choices for myself. Those who defend positive freedom believe that just because no one is
preventing you from doing something, it does not follow that you are genuinely free. Positive
freedom is a matter of achieving your potential, not just having

Research Paper On Health Evangelism
Health evangelism is the good news that Jesus makes people healthier. Health evangelism is
Christ centered evangelism integrated with a health program. The health component of health
evangelism contains information regarding the risks associated with unhealthy living and
provides behavior change strategies designed to correct bad habits and addictions. The
evangelistic component of health evangelism introduces people to Jesus. Jesus provides the
power to change. Lasting behavior change is impossible for many people who rely on their own
efforts, but a relationship with Jesus turns a life around. This is true in the physical realm as well
as in the spiritual realm. Many people who don t know Jesus to begin with, will identify a health
evangelism program as the start of their Christian experience. Many who already have a religious
background will find a deeper and intensely practical relationship with Jesus as they learn to trust
Him for daily... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps some of them have not experienced Jesus in their own lives and have not learned how
essential Jesus is to successful healthful living. Evangelists have not helped the situation much
either. The constant question posed to those conducting health programs is, Where are the
baptisms? This question looks at the end of the process and doesn t recognize the multiple steps
that precede baptism. Health evangelism helps prepare people for baptism by leading them
through the several steps that precede baptism. Perhaps the biggest reason we are not doing more
health evangelism is because we haven t been doing it up to this point and we really do not know
how to do it. On the scientific side, health evangelism of the type advocated here has not been
studied. We would do more health evangelism if we had proof that health evangelism is more
effective in changing behaviors than traditional behavior change

Sonnet 73 By William Shakespeare
The poem Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare follows a typical Shakespearean sonnet structure;
fourteen lines, three quatrains followed by a rhyming couplet, a basic ababcdcdefefgg rhyme
scheme, and predominately following iambic pentameter with one additional unstressed syllable in
the first line of each quatrain and the couplet. The sonnetas a whole is an extended metaphor for the
aging and process and death; however, it is broken into three smaller metaphors all supporting the
speaker s impending end of life through the process of aging. Natural aspects winter, twilight,
and fire are presented as an extended metaphor for the the thematic undertone of aging and death.
Nature alone is emblematic of the process of aging throughout one s life. Nature is always
changing, just as humans are never the same in one second to the next. Humans are an outcome
of natural processes. It is only right that the aging of the speaker be represented through natures
own developments. The two work simultaneously to present the journey of the speaker towards
an acceptance of his death and loss love. It is through natural cycles he realizes the only condition
to living is death. The metaphor begins in quatrain one with the symbolism of winter. The
coloring of the yellow leaves falling from the tree clue the reader into the seasonal time period.
The speaker directly compares himself to winter when he says That time of year thou may st in me
behold . He holds the season

What Is A Brief Political History Of Japan
BRIEF POLITICAL HISTORY The Government runs under the framework established by the
Constitution of Japan adopted in 1947. It is an unitary state, containing forty seven
administrative divisions, with the Emperor as its head of state. His role is ceremonial and he has
no powers related to Government. Instead, it is the Cabinet, composing of the Ministers of State
and the Prime Minister, that directs and controls the Government. The Cabinet is the source of
power of the Executive branch, and is formed by the Prime Minister, who is the head of
government. It is an unitary state, containing forty seven administrative divisions, with the
Emperor as its head of state. Japan was ruled by successive military shoguns. During this period,
effective power of the government resided in the Shogun, who officially ruled the country in the
name of the Emperor. The Shoguns were the hereditary military Governors. BACKGROUND TO
ECONOMY AND INDUSTRIES Economically, Japan is one of the most highly developed
nations in the world. Japanese brand like Toyota, Sony, Fujifilm and Panasonic are famous across

Anatomical Theory Of Disease Essay
In this paper I am going to discuss the differences between the Humoral concept of disease, the
anatomical theory of disease, the germ theory of disease and the differences between each theory. I
am also going to look at the historical significance of these theories and how they apply to health
and wellness in today s health care. The humoral theory comes from an ancient Greek theory that
states that the human body is composed of four basic humors. The Humoral theory is derived from
the word humor, but in this context, means fluid . The Humoral theory is related to the theory of
the earth and the four elements. These elements are better known as earth, fire, water and air. The
balance in these earthly elements allows the earth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fundamental concept of this theory states that microorganisms can invade the body and
cause certain diseases or even death. Before this theory was accepted many people believed that
a disease was a punishment for a person s evil behavior not a medical problem. These three
theories differ because they all covered different barriers when it came to treating and
understanding diseases. The Humoral theory began with the four elements and the anatomical
theory allowed us to take a deeper look into the functioning of the bodies systems. This helped us
to learn what was happening in the body, in the body systems and in the organs. Without these
two studies we would not have come to the Germ Theory. Even though each theory is different
in concept each theory was important and we would not have been able to progress along to the
next theory. If we would not have had the germ theory we would not have discovered the need
for vaccines or discovered antiseptics. These theories also allowed physicians to learn to look at
diseases on a micro (small scale) instead of just a macro scale or big picture. I feel that these
theories have led to significant changes in health care over the years. These theories have allowed
scientist to discover not only how to cure some disease but also how to prevent diseases from
spreading. Scientists were able to develop vaccines, antiseptics, create personal protective
equipment and enabled the public

Pros And Cons Of International Family Planning
Before reading chapter 8 I had no idea what international family planning really was, and I have a
feeling I m not the only one who didn t. I believe that if most people knew what internationally
family planning was and what it really meant then then there would be a lot more people angry
with the decision to stop all funding to UNFPA. This organization does so much for everyone
around the world like, advises governments on family planning, reducing poverty, reproductive
health, and many other ways. The United States apparently stopped funding this program because it
supposedly supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or
involuntary sterilization . The UNFPA actually posted a statement on their official website denying
the claim and stating that all of its work promotes the human rightsof individuals and couples to
make their own decisions, free of coercion or discrimination . I don t think people or even the
president knows how negative of an impact denying future funds to the UNFPA is going to effect
the world. I believe that if our president Donald Trump had taken the time to learn about UNFPA
and what they stand for then maybe he wouldn t have stopped all funding. This decision has made
not only the women within the United States feel like they don t have a say in their reproductive
rightsbut, it also makes it look like we don t care about the reproductive rights of any woman in any
nation. The United States not supporting family

  • 2. Philosophy Vs Religion Research Paper Reading a chapter from a book based on how philosophy differs from science and religion. In a way it does not, they are really the same. They just use different terminology in how they discipline is expressed. For example, the scientific method is how the scientist comes to a conclusion, just how philosophers ask certain questions to prove their debates or theories. Religion, on the other hand, is more closely related to philosophybecause both deal with beliefs and faith base systems. In the early days of philosophy, philosophers like galileo, Socrates, and Plato were they early scientist of their day. Philosophy and science differ in many aspects. Science more based on morality. Religion, on the other hand, looks at philosophy as it prodigy and also its own personal antagonist. Religion is more about should searching, and not empirical investigations. if someone wants to know more about god, there most meaningful insight will come through prayer, meditation, and self revelation. Science cannot deal with the idea of incarnation that god became Jesus, and philosophy has yet to debate it. Science and philosophy can t deal with the methods of religious issues. Religion, however, possess the answer to understanding the reality of philosophy and science. Philosophy and religion do have something in common that neither has a method for searching out god. Both disciplines are cognitive endeavors in how they reach their end goal. Through the existence of man philosophy, science, and religion have changed through the centuries. • 3. Human Impacts on the Environment Human Impacts on the Environment: Ocean Acidification Ecological human effects on the planet are now about 40% greater than the planet can support in a sustainable fashion (Grossman, 2010). One of the many areas with significant damage is the marine biosphere. Ocean acidification is a great threat to marine and subsequently human life. The pH level in the ocean has been a relatively constant 8.15 to 8.25 and organisms have evolved under these circumstances for over 50 million years. However since the end of the Industrial Revolution, worldwide burning of fossil fuels and human innovations such as concrete manufacture have resulted in the release of more than 440 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropogenic emissions over the past 200 years have caused ocean acidity levels to increase by 40 %(Ocean Studies Board, 2010). Without major intervention and significant reduction of the global carbon footprint this will result in severe and irreversible damage to ecosystems and organisms ocean wide. Phytoplankton is found in the surface area of the water and is the primary element of varied and elaborate food webs in the pelagic, (an area of open water away from shore and bed) and other marine systems. Phytoplankton is essential for the cycling of nutrients in these systems, and acidification has effects upon photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation and calcification. These processes are key for zooplankton and phytoplankton composition. Humans are provided with a variety of services from marine ecosystems, such as protection from erosion and coastal flooding, seafood, nutrient cycling and natural products. As acidification progresses, these precious assets are likely to disappear. Should we choose to, there is both the technology and the economic potential to ensure a discernible decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. This is a far preferable and effective alternative to suggestions of geoengineering, with many proposed strategies failing to address the root cause of acidification (Royal Society, 2005). The longer it is taken to find a combative strategy, the greater the legacy of environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Depressants Their Effects Depressants and Their Effects In today s world people are becoming more and more dependant on drugs, in particular, depressants. By definition, a depressant is a chemical agent that diminishes the function or activity of a specific part of the body. There are many different types of depressants ranging from sleeping medications to laughing gas, and of course the most common, alcohol. Like all medications, there are the legal and illegal types. Heroin, marijuana, and GHB which is commonly used as a date rape drug, are among the illegal depressants. Ambien and Benadryl are legal depressants when prescribed by a doctor. They are usually prescribed to relieve symptoms of anxiety and insomnia. The effects of taking depressants can slow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several types of illegal depressants that can be found around the world. One of the most common illegal depressant is cannabis, also known as marijuana, weed, pot, hash, etc. Cannabis can cause a hallucinogenic effect if consumed in large quantities. Opium and drugs derived from it fall into the same category as cannabis but is more addictive which may cause more health problems. Long term use of these substances can lead to problems and complications associated with memory, concentration, and motivation. Heroin, also known as smack, skag, or hammer, is also an illegal depressant. This drug is among other strong pain killer drugs, such as morphine, called analgesics. The long term use of these drugs can lead to heart and lung problems. Other problems include tetanus and damaged veins from injections. The unknown purity of heroin puts users at risk for overdose. Each time a user shoots up , they may think that they are injecting the same amount as before, but it may be more potent which can be lethal. Gamma hydroxyl butyrate, commonly known as GHB, a date rape drug is also an illegal depressant. GHB also has street names such as liquid x or liquid ecstasy. It is typically a colorless, odorless liquid with a slightly salty taste. This allows individuals to slip it without notice to another person. Its effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, and visual disturbances. It may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This class has taught me to not only think differently but also to listen to the thoughts of others and how they feel about certain topics and to not judge them but to take their thought into consideration when I think about the same thing. Overall I feel that this class has enhanced my critical thinking skills and made me more prepared for the adult world and all of the decisions that come with it. The critical thinking skills that I have gained this semester would have to be not just going along with what someone believes but challenging it to see why they believe that and why one should have the same beliefs that they do. Over time, war tactics have progressed and become more organized and efficient in accomplishing the goal of defeating the enemy. There are thousands of advances in strategies used during battle and the war wars are fought are have constantly changed. Looking back to when organized war truly began many distinct, and commonly used, improvements can be seen. Such as, chariots, hoplites, phalanxes, war elephants, and siege engines. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The walls of the chariot, or the box, were generally leather with a lightweight wooden frame. Within the box were two men, a driver and a warrior. Projecting from the chariot was a long pole angled upward and attached to a yoke , which was mounted on the horses backs. At first there were two horses pulling each chariot, it is believed later on the setup was changed to fit four horses. On the right side of the chariot, the driver s job was to control the horses and to get the warrior in the best position to make his attacks. His attacks could be made with a bow and arrow, spear, mace, sword or dagger, however the bow was normally a prime choice for the average warrior. A typical warrior riding into battle was in full armor and ready to defend his chariot at all costs. The use of chariots spread very quickly as their effectiveness was easily recognizable. The Shang of China adopted the concept of chariots and modified them to fit three men. These three men were made up of a driver, a warrior and his servant whose role was to replenish his arrows and have weapons ready for his use at all times. In the Chinese culture, the chariots were used as a way to jump into a new social class as well. • 8. American Horror Story Evaluation American Horror Story Evaluation When it comes to a show I always look for something lighthearted. In my opinion the best shows are the ones that are funny, a bit relatable, have great character development, and overall just uplift your spirits. Shows like this are hard to come by; there are some old ones that I ve come to enjoy such as Friends and The Office, but lately I have yet to find a show that fits my normal preferences. I have spent months watching Friends over and over again, but that gets boring after a while, so I decided to step out of my comfort zone and find a show I wouldn t usually watch. I decided to try American Horror Story completely aware that it doesn t fit into what I normally look for. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the show. It s has some scary moments, but nothing too horrifying. The setting, mood, music, characters, and general atmosphere of the show is meant to give a spooky vibe and does just that, but it also goes much deeper and appeases all kinds of audiances. The American Horror Story wasn t created to be funny, and while it has its moments, for the most part it s not. However, it is very engaging. It draws you in with the characters and their development. It s oddly relatable. Rape, miscarriage, suicide, homicide, drugs, and all kinds of other issues are talked about ... But if you can get past those things, it is a really great show. It is very intriguing and has a complex plot. The characters become like a family to you. As someone who is very picky about what she watches, I am completely in love with this show. I will continue to watch it as long as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Literary Devices In A Prayer For Owen Meany When reading John Irving s, A Prayer for Owen Meany, he uses a plethora of literary devices and techniques. Out of the list that he displays in this novel, there are three elements that really draw through the entire piece. These being: foreshadowing, irony, and setting. The three listed are the devices Irving uses to the most extent and impact the story more than all the others. Foreshadowing is the clearest to spot throughout the chapters. Launching in the second chapter, The Armadillo, was when Owen Meany first came across as a Christ figure. Johnny s cousins come to 80 Front Street to visit for Thanksgiving and Owen Meany is upstairs in the attic with Johnny. Hesitantly, Johnny introduces the cousins to Owen, scared of how they ll treat Owen, or how they ll treat Johnny for being friends with him. After the cousins declare how wimpy Owen is and make fun of his voice, they see Owen in the attic with his arms behind his back (being armless) and the sun shining from behind him, making him look like the ultimate Christ figure. Hester even stated to Johnny that she didn t even think he was human. Johnny connects Owen to God, thinking that there is no doubt that, in the dazzling configurations of the sun that poured through the attic in skylights, he look looked like a descending angel a tiny but... • 10. Bayesian Learning Essay examples BAYESIAN LEARNING Abstract Uncertainty has presented a difficult obstacle in artificial intelligence. Bayesian learning outlines a mathematically solid method for dealing with uncertainty based upon Bayes Theorem. The theory establishes a means for calculating the probability an event will occur in the future given some evidence based upon prior occurrences of the event and the posterior probability that the evidence will predict the event. Its use in artificial intelligence has been met with success in a number of research areas and applications including the development of cognitive models and neural networks. At the same time, the theory has been criticized for being philosophically unrealistic and logistically inefficient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They allow intelligent systems flexibility and a logical way to update their database of knowledge. The appeal of probability theories in AI lies in the way they express the qualitative relationship among beliefs and can process these relationships to draw conclusions (Pearl, 1988). One of the most formalized probabilistic theories used in AI relates to Bayes theorem. Bayesian methods have been used for a variety of AI applications across many disciplines including cognitive modeling, medical diagnosis, learning causal networks, and finance. Two years after his death, in 1763, Rev. Thomas Bayes Essay Toward solving a Problem in the Doctrine of Chances was published. Bayes is regarded as the first to use probability inductively and established a mathematical basis for probability inference which he outlined in this now famous paper. The idea behind Bayes method is simple; the probability that an event will occur in future trials can be calculated from the frequency with which it has occurred in prior trails. Let s consider some everyday knowledge to outline Bayes rule: where there s smoke, there s fire. We use this everyday cliche to suggest cause and effect. But how are such relationships learned in and from everyday experience? Conditional probability provides a way to estimate the likelihood of some outcome given a particular situation. According to WTO, zeroing is a calculation method that ignores negative margin of dumping. To know more, see appendix 1 on how it s calculated. As a result, it causes an unfair increase of dumping liability of exporter (WTO, n.d.). Therefore, Thailand brought this case to WTO, and this case is very similar to the Ecuador s case which has been judged before as unfair. My perspective From the previous result, I quite agree with the decision made by the panel that imposing tariff calculated by using zeroing method, as a reason of antidumping, is unfair because of the following reasons. According to Article VI of GATT, during the Uruguay Round, antidumping means charging extra import duty on a product in order to bring its price closer to the fair value or to help domestic industries from injury. Also, you need to calculate the extent of dumping, investigate the impact to importing countries, and look into all economic factors that could affect before you can impose tariff (definition, n.d.). According to Free Trade Organization, Dan Ikenson, policy analyst, claims Few trade policies engender more bitterness and international ill will than the U.S. antidumping law. An indirect tax is most often thought of as a tax that is shifted from one taxpayer to another, by way of an increase in the price of the good. Fuel, liquor and cigarette taxes are all considered examples of indirect taxes, as many argue that the tax is actually paid by the end consumer, by way of a higher retail price. Those taxes include VAT and duties. There are some arguments that those taxes can be either positive or negative to economic progression. Students wouldn t just be learning math or history classes that they might not use extensively in the future. Students would instead be getting hands on experience to see what they like or may not like to have a successful future. Additionally, Todd Gilton, an author and university professor, states that students are Ill prepared to learn and that A strong liberal arts curriculum could teach them about their history, their social condition, themselves (Source 2). With all of the candidates spouting their opinions, it is hard to know what to believe. How is one to know if the groups fighting in these areas are terrorists or freedom fighters? To fully understand, once must first define all the terms involved in classifying groups as freedom fighters. Once these concepts are defined, one can attempt to define what the term freedom fighter means and use that definition as a basis for classifying groups as terrorists or freedom fighters. The classical definition of a freedom fighter according to the Miriam Webster Dictionary is a person who takes part in a resistance movementagainst an oppressive political or social establishment (Freedom Fighter). Note that this definition does not state what type of resistance is involved: it does not require the resistance to by of a violent nature. Perhaps the key word in this definition is oppression. In this passage, it is shown that the altitude enhanced the water cycle which engendered an increase of rains; therefore, the kingdom had a variety of plants but also different animals as there was a rich vegetation. As a result, the kingdom had nutritious crops and the diverse fauna enhanced the agriculture with the plough and provided fertilizers. In the Cranach Venus and Cupid the painter used Line and Space for Elements of Art and Proportion and Unity for the Principles of Design. As for the Composition, it was an informal balance with the use of contrapposto which is an asymmetrical arrangement of the human figure. As you see within the painting of Venus the lines for her arms contrast brilliantly with hips and legs. Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream Essay Allegory in Edward Albee s The American Dream Our understanding of Edward Albee s achievement in The American Dream (1960) has come a long way since 1961 when Martin Esslin hailed it as a brilliant first example of an American contribution to the Theatre of the Absurd 1 and 1966 when Nicholas Canaday, Jr. labeled it America s best example of what has come to be known as the theatre of the absurd. 2 The shrewdest assessment of absurdism in Albee is by Brian Way, who shows convincingly that, although Albee has successfully mastered the techniques of theatrical absurdism, he has nevertheless shied away from embracing the metaphysics that the style implies.3 That is, Albee knows that Theatre of the Absurd is an absorption in art ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Albee s title, on the other hand, is rich in intellectual and moral substance, since it refers to a host of ideas and feelings associated with the fondest hopes of participants in the American experience, both historic and contemporary. The title is also a fitting thematic label for the play since the dialogue explicitly refers to the American Dream after the Young Man appears on stage. Ionesco s title like all titles, an authorial comment on the text rightly says that the play lacks meaning; Albee s says that it refers to a lot of meaning. That meaning is most obviously associated with the Young Man, since he is specifically identified as the American Dream by the dialogue of the play. The less obvious but more important meaning is embodied in Grandma. The goal of this essay will be to clarify how Grandma s character and experience bear most of the meaning of the American Dream that Albee wants to communicate in this play. As we shall see, that meaning fits squarely within the mainstream American humanist tradition stretching back to the early, idealistic years of the American republic. Even though she is a physical disaster, many critics have noticed various kinds of attractive qualities in Grandma. Don D. Moore finds her the most appealing, the most refreshing and the wisest figure in the play. 8 Canaday, who has written the most about Grandma, praises her for her realism, clear vision, enjoyment of living, and creative ... According to (Justarius, 2007), A philosopher looks at the world in wonder. He seeks the underlying meaning of things. He wants to understand it and codify it into a system of thought. Being a philosopher means to engage in the never ending quest for being fully and authentically human (Kimura, 2013). In the world today, there are many philosophers that have walked this planet. Moreover, these differences stem from the different perceptions of the parents, teachers, children, and even the school psychologist. The differences can also be attributed to the differences in the child s behavior across contexts. This information is important to acknowledge and understand for many reasons. We are different. What a parent might constitute as a poor behavior, might be seen as an acceptable behavior by the teacher. It all goes back to culture and what each person truly believes to be important and/or meaningful. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago... I have loved none but you. ― Jane Austen, Persuasion It s a love story. A fairy tale ending, a quintessential marriage, and a happily ever after substantiates this fact. So how is Jane Austen s last written novel, Persuasion, any different to the typical, clichГ© romance? The secret lies in the pain of the journey. At the age of twenty seven, Anne Elliot; a mediocre maiden mistreated by those closest to her, lost the bloom of youth and more importantly, the love of her life. Eight years had passed since she was persuaded by her narcissistic family to terminate her engagement to Frederick Wentworth, a gallant naval captain born of low social status and insufficient wealth. When they meet again, both have changed significantly. But amidst flirtatious distractions and unexpected misadventures, the pair cannot deny the conjoined heartache and love they felt exclusively for each other, despite the misfortunes of life. Persuasion, written by Austen in her final days and published in 1817, is a novel possessing a timelessness and raw nature which reflects early 19th century Britain in a way that resonates with current modernistic society, thus justifying its inclusion in the Literary Canon. ... Both of these pictures demonstrate the occurrence between the most common elements, hydrogen and helium, undergoing fusion. Sometimes when dealing with mathematical descriptions of specific phenomenon concerning stars the complexity may become intense. However, we will explore common occurrences and changes of stars that can be described by simple mathematical relationships. One primary occurrence between stars that are approaching their later stages is a reduction in their radius. This occurs when elements such as hydrogen and helium in the center of the star change into gaseous iron from electron exchanges and other processes. Eventually the star becomes very dense and the radius of the star is reduced. By the conservation of angular momentum in this case, the velocity must increase due to the decreased radius (Kippenhahn, 194 95). Lets do a calculation to show this. By the conservation of angular momentum we get this equation: Ii wi = If wf, where Ii is the initial moment of inertia, wi is the initial angular speed, and If and wf are the final products of what I just listed. The moment of inertia of a sphere is (2/5)mR^2, where m is the mass and R is the radius. Plugging these into the equation Ii wi = If wf, we get, (2/5)mRi^2 wi = (2/5)mRf^2 wf. ... The sonnetas a whole is an extended metaphor for the aging and process and death; however, it is broken into three smaller metaphors all supporting the speaker s impending end of life through the process of aging. Natural aspects winter, twilight, and fire are presented as an extended metaphor for the the thematic undertone of aging and death. Nature alone is emblematic of the process of aging throughout one s life. Nature is always changing, just as humans are never the same in one second to the next. Humans are an outcome of natural processes. It is only right that the aging of the speaker be represented through natures own developments. The two work simultaneously to present the journey of the speaker towards an acceptance of his death and loss love. It is through natural cycles he realizes the only condition to living is death. The metaphor begins in quatrain one with the symbolism of winter. The coloring of the yellow leaves falling from the tree clue the reader into the seasonal time period. The speaker directly compares himself to winter when he says That time of year thou may st in me behold . He holds the season ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Anatomical Theory Of Disease Essay In this paper I am going to discuss the differences between the Humoral concept of disease, the anatomical theory of disease, the germ theory of disease and the differences between each theory. I am also going to look at the historical significance of these theories and how they apply to health and wellness in today s health care. The humoral theory comes from an ancient Greek theory that states that the human body is composed of four basic humors. The Humoral theory is derived from the word humor, but in this context, means fluid . The Humoral theory is related to the theory of the earth and the four elements. These elements are better known as earth, fire, water and air. The balance in these earthly elements allows the earth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fundamental concept of this theory states that microorganisms can invade the body and cause certain diseases or even death. Before this theory was accepted many people believed that a disease was a punishment for a person s evil behavior not a medical problem. These three theories differ because they all covered different barriers when it came to treating and understanding diseases. The Humoral theory began with the four elements and the anatomical theory allowed us to take a deeper look into the functioning of the bodies systems. This helped us to learn what was happening in the body, in the body systems and in the organs. Without these two studies we would not have come to the Germ Theory. Even though each theory is different in concept each theory was important and we would not have been able to progress along to the next theory. If we would not have had the germ theory we would not have discovered the need for vaccines or discovered antiseptics. These theories also allowed physicians to learn to look at diseases on a micro (small scale) instead of just a macro scale or big picture. I feel that these theories have led to significant changes in health care over the years. These theories have allowed scientist to discover not only how to cure some disease but also how to prevent diseases from spreading. Scientists were able to develop vaccines, antiseptics, create personal protective equipment and enabled the public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Pros And Cons Of International Family Planning Before reading chapter 8 I had no idea what international family planning really was, and I have a feeling I m not the only one who didn t. I believe that if most people knew what internationally family planning was and what it really meant then then there would be a lot more people angry with the decision to stop all funding to UNFPA. This organization does so much for everyone around the world like, advises governments on family planning, reducing poverty, reproductive health, and many other ways. The United States apparently stopped funding this program because it supposedly supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization . The UNFPA actually posted a statement on their official website denying the claim and stating that all of its work promotes the human rightsof individuals and couples to make their own decisions, free of coercion or discrimination . I don t think people or even the president knows how negative of an impact denying future funds to the UNFPA is going to effect the world. I believe that if our president Donald Trump had taken the time to learn about UNFPA and what they stand for then maybe he wouldn t have stopped all funding. This decision has made not only the women within the United States feel like they don t have a say in their reproductive rightsbut, it also makes it look like we don t care about the reproductive rights of any woman in any nation. The United States not supporting family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
