2. The Role Of Choral Music And How Communication
Occurs...
While the history of choral assembly quite a broad field, this should show the variety
between ancient choral music and that of the common era. With this understanding in
mind, therefore, one can enter the discussion of communication with amenable
thought.
Communication
To begin with, it is important for one to understand how choral assembly can be
related to communication, and how communication occurs in the choral setting.
There are three major varying ways this happens: choir to the audience, director to the
choir, and choir member to the choir member. These three instances are not limited to
the field of communication, but do resemble the characteristics that make up
communication in an individual s life. When a choir mounts the ... Show more content

One gesture that is incorrectly timed or misplaced could significantly alter the way
the choir responds to the conductor. In turn, that response could alter the intended
message of the choir. Additionally, the choir communicates to each other as
members. Choirs are normally built of four parts: soprano, alto, tenor, and
bass(SATB). For choirs with more skill, the SSAATTBB form is used(each choir
part being split into two). Communication often occurs based on the formation of
the choir the placement of vocal parts in physical proximity to each other. As seen
in Appendix A, figure 1a depicts a choir formation. This formation is one of
simplicity, but also of effectiveness. Each vocal part is grouped together so that
choir members can rely on each other for note precision. In this setting, the choir
has the ability to communicate to each by way of directly hearing the notes they
need to sing. For example: a bass is standing right next to another bass. If he misses
an entrance, he can listen to a bass near him, and re enter the music. The
communication present could almost be viewed as sub conscious reaction,
however, to label it as such would be improper due to its vital nature. The formation
seen in figure 1a is often used for beginning choirs because it is a safe environment
for people to grow vocally. On the other hand, the formation seen in figure 1b is
significantly more difficult and requires much more skill. In

Finally, the company can make a profit (Zeithaml et al., 2009). Therefore, satisfied
employees make satisfied customers. Service personnel satisfaction significantly
influences organizational commitment and job performance on customer satisfaction
and corporate operational performance (Ladkin, 2002; Dunlap et al., 1988; Tansuhaj
et al., 1988; Chowdhary, 2003; Yang and Chen, 2010). How to enhance service
personnel satisfaction, organizational commitment and job performance is a critical
issue in service industry management. In past research on employee satisfaction,
organizational commitment and job performance, many scholars (Babin and Boles,
1998; Bernhardt et al., 2000; Van Scotter, 2000; Koys, 2003; Testa, 2001) have
validated that employees job satisfaction positively influences job performance and
organizational commitment. In studies on factors of employees job satisfaction, job
performance and organizational commitment, the service profit chain proposed by
Heskett et al.(1994) and service marketing management model indicated by Tansuhaj
et al.(1988) on overall service industry both demonstrated that management s internal
marketing activities produce job satisfaction and commitment to the organization. In
addition, many studies have found close relationships between leadership, employee
satisfaction, organizational commitment and job performance (Billingsley and Cross,

4. Rosa s Life In The Life Of Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was born on Febuary 4th of 1913. A lot can change in the course of a
hundred years. Back then when Parks was alive, everything was different from
now. She lived in the culture of the century before me. When she was dying, I was
just a baby. Since then the laws, religion, clothing, ceremony, and activities have
changed completely. Rosa Parks was a black girl who grew up in a world made for
whites. She had to worry about many more things back in the day then people do
now with her color. All the laws were in favor of whites and discriminated blacks.
Rosa, everytime she would meet a white person, they would act like they were
over her and they were better than her. She was six years old and lived in the rural
Level, Alabama. (Then, she was very frail and sickly.) Moses Hudson and his wife
lived next door to Rosa, her mother, Leona McCauley, her baby brother Sylvester,
and her grandparents. Hudson was a white man so whenever he was near, they
would have to act different and unusual to say the least. If they did not show respect
and politeness, their lives could be over. One day, he brought over a white young
man whom he presented as his son in law. He got introduced to Rosa and acted
different than what usually white people act to blacks. He patted her on the head and
commented on how cute of a little girl she was. Seventy years later, she still
remembered this historic time in her life when a white treated her like a regular girl.
In my lifetime, I never had to
5. The Earth Is A System Response To The Climate Of The
Earth
The climate of our planet is a system response to the geography, biosphere,
anthropogenic activities and occasional/cyclic geological/astronomical events.
Owing to the gigantic nature of the system, the Earth has a slow response time and
manifests differently in different parts of the world. And the spatial and temporal
changes are miniscule, making it difficult to comprehend the severity for an uniniated
person, since these changes can be easily lost in the noise of interannual variability. In
this context, uninitiated include every person who doesn t actively pursue
information from peer reviewed and scientifically consistent sources. For this reason,

However, these platforms have been plagued with rampant misinformation that has
been spread to attain socio political ends. During the
Las Vegas Shooting of 2017, websites such as Google/Facebook painted the wrong
person as guilty this was attributed to the results being displayed based on popularity
and recency than on veracity, serves as a fine example. The mistake has urged both
Google and Facebook to enhance their fact checking al gorithms by engaging more
humans to review the news that has been marked controversial. Further, the
individuals should be encouraged to fact check and identify and mark hoax messages.
Similarly, the news disseminating websites can be provided a rating based on the
frequency and the trustworthiness of the news being published which can be viewed
by the general public. Thus, the resources should help the end user to weed out the
untrustworthy information.
Apart from the truth of the message, the content of the message should resonate with
the audience. The message of climate change, though appears grim, should be given a
positive spin such as, an opportunity to switch to
(de)centralized carbon free energy sources or as an opportunity to provide clean
water and clean energy. Since the responses to messages invoking emotions of fear,
guilt and ignorance are denial, fatalism and apathy.

kinds of people. Each experiences that individuals encounter which will make
different individuals have different thinking. As the most successful experiences that
individuals have this may lead them to a really high level that maybe others cannot
be achieved. Also different kinds of experiences that hear from others may give you
a really big impact or influences. For, Daniel Gilbert, a professor which studies human
psychology, he writes the essay Immune to Reality , he thinks that people depend on

positive side. He also mentions the psychological immune system; this system

These racialized images and visual codes continue to produce a meaning placed by
the gaze from the White American colonizers created for viewers to take part of
the convoluted discussions comprised of the social process and practices of
interpretation (Sturken and Cartwright, 2009). I theorize these fabrications of Black
women only heighten stereotypes that depend on historical myths and the viewers
cultural knowledge. The White gaze reproduces racial codes that have transformed
into the classroom and school s climate. I incorporate Jennifer Martin s (2015)
discussion of racial battle fatigue (RBF) of dealing with the daily environment of
microaggressions whether intentional or not and its effects on Black female art
educators identity. I plan to include Berry s (2010) Critical Race Feminism (CRF) to
explore my story as a teacher and artist to counter the master narrative of domination.
I share Thorton Dill and Zambrana s (2017) intersectional scholarship, examining the
exclusion and constraints exhibited in the lives and experiences of Black women. I
will explore the gap in feminist art education in the secondary education environment
that excludes the Black female artists. I realize the importance of how graphic
narratives can illustrate stories visually that may not communicate clearly through
words. The significance of the study is to provide a critical feminist lens to
interrogate the visual narrative of race, class, and gender disparities of Black female
art educators in secondary

Evaluate the principal psychological perspectives applied to the understanding of the
development of individuals
There are numerous debates in regards to developmental psychology. One of the main
debates to begin with is nature vs nurture; some individuals believe that we are
products of our environment while others regards us while others believe that we
are products of our genetics. John Locke believes that when we are born we are a

This theory focuses solely on children s cognitive development so that is both a
strength and a weakness as it gets an in depth understanding of children s cognitive
processes however it cannot be generalised to adults. Another strength of this
theory is the fact that it can be applied practically within the real world, especially
in regards to education as it means children can be taught based upon their
developmental stage. It is extremely useful in that sense as it is nomothetic so it
can be applied to larger population. The theory contains both continuous and
discontinuous, it is discontinuous as it contains distinct hierarchal stages. It is
good in one sense as it allows professionals to see if a child is meeting the stages
and if they do not action can be taken. At the same time it can be disadvantageous
as professionals, such as teachers may not push a child to reach their full cognitive
capabilities as they have met the criteria for their age. At the time this was quite
revolutionary as children were once considered little adults that only has a slightly
less mental and developmental capacity. Therefore they may not have learnt as
effective as they could, as they may have been taught above or below their capacity.
However with that said it has been suggested that his stages of

To reduce the impacts of sea level rise on storm water drainage systems, pump
stations can be used to more effectively collect storm water runoff and direct it to
the local waters. Enhancing storm water pumping capacity reduces the likelihood of
sewage backup due to sea level rise and flooding. In addition, use of green
infrastructure such as bioswales and rain gardens can reduce the impacts of sea level
rise on stormwater drainage systems. Bioswales are storm water runoff conveyance
systems that can absorb storm water runoff due to heavy rain. Bioswales filter the
stormwater and store the water, and hence, reduce the pressure on sewage systems
during heavy rainfalls and flooding. Rain gardens can be used as effective landscape
elements to reduce storm water runoff. When implemented as landscape components
of different city facilities and buildings, rain gardens can effectively reduce
stormwater runoff and reduce the pressure on drainage systems under sea level
13. Music Censorship
Although is clearly states in the first amendment that Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or
abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people to
peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances,
censorshipin America still exists in a big way. Music censorship is the term used to
describe the act of editing, altering, or preventing the listener from hearing the music
as the artist created it in order to either deny certain information or to act as a moral
gatekeeper of potentially harmful material (http://www.cwrl.utexas.edu/~barndollar

Consequently, approximately 1,400 stores dropped the album. Many major
retailers such as Woolworth s and K mart will not purchase, and therefore not
display, an album with any kind of parental advisory sticker on it. While it is true
that legally these labels do not prohibit sales to anyone, the labels amount to an
elegant form of censorship, elegant because it is censorship made to look like
consumer information. (1) As controversial as records like Ice T and other artists
who use either swears or sexually explicit material are, artistic pieces no matter
what kink of message they send, or however unpopular they may be, are still
protected by the first amendment to the constitution. The people who vote for and
pass the laws prohibiting free speech are taking it upon themselves what they think
is moral and right for the rest of the country. I feel I can make up my own mind
about what type of music I listen to, how about you? One organization claiming to
protect the children is the Parents Music Resource Center. At the center of the
music labeling controversy, the P.M.R.C., feels that current levels of violence,
racism, brutality towards women, drug and alcohol glamorization in music, lyrics,
videos and stage shows need to be addressed through public discussion and debate
(Hull 23). The P.M.R.C. hopes to prohibit the sale of records to minors that contain
lyrics about sex, drugs and alcohol, murder or suicide (Weinfeld 46). If that were the

Gary Ridgeway, A.K.A, the Green River Killer, was one of the most notorious
serial killers in U.S history. Over the course of two years in the 1980s nearly 50
lives were taken in the Seattle and Tacoma areas of Washington. This case was
given this name because of the location of all of the bodies. Most of the bodies were
dumped either in or around the Green River located in Washington. Upon discovery
of these bodies, the king county sheriff department formed a task force to attempt to
solve these murders. One of the interesting things the task force did was interview

15. The Measuring Of Flow Volume Loops Essay
Introduction: The measuring of flow volume loops (FVL) in laboratory settings
during exercise are becoming increasingly popular to identify the limiting
mechanics of ventilation (Johnson, Beck, Zeballos Weisman, 1999a). The
collection of a maximum flow volume loop (MFVL) through a forced maximal
maneuver at rest allows researchers to compare a baseline value with tidal loops
obtained during exercise (Johnson et al., 1999a). Dominelli and Sheel state that
MFVL provides information on an individual s capability to produce volume and
flow with respect to their mechanical ceilings (2012). Placing the respective tidal
loops associated with different exercise intensities within a resting MFVL shows the
difference in volumes during exercise and rest. An MFLV maneuver would yield the
largest loop; whereas, the resting tidal loop would be the smallest (Johnson,
Weisman, Zeballos Beck, 1999b). Additionally, tidal loops during exercise will fit
somewhere between resting and maximal tidal loops; increasing in volume as
intensity increases; however, the loops still remain small in comparison to the MFVL
(Johnson et al. 1999b). This aforementioned trend observed in healthy individuals
during increasingly intense exercise is related to the lack of constraints on ventilation
(Johnson et al. 1999b). Major factors responsible for limiting ventilation at rest and
during exercise are bronchodilation and bronchoconstriction; these in turn affect total
lungcapacity (TLC) a key measure with

As per the results of two surveys, I was categorized as a liberal person. I count myself
as the supporter of Democratic party in USA. However, Don Huffines who is the
representative of Texas senate from district 16 is from Republican party who tries to
expand his conservative philosophy.
One of the issues I stand against is for the right to keep and bear arms. The
Republican party supports the right to keep guns but the Democratic party is
against it and so am I. In this issue, my ideas diverge with the Republican party
since it opposes the laws which limit the open use of guns. Even Don Huffines
states that every Texans should have legal rights to possess their fire arms.
Republican party are against the tax regulations of guns and argue to make a

am against this action of Don Huffines as it can be more severe in some contexts.
Recently, even in my college Northlake college of Irving, a girl was murdered by a

19. Congenital Condition Of Congenital Heart Defects
A congenital heart defect is an issue with the actual anatomy of the heart. This issue
is normally presented at the time of birth. Congenital heart defects are some of the
most common type of birth defect. Eight out of one thousand newborns are diagnosed
with a congenital heart defect. Congenital defects can often affect any anatomical
part of the heart. It can affect the valves, walls, arteries and veins near the heart.
Congenital defects can affect the flow of bloodthrough the heart, they can cause it to
go the wrong direction, be blocked or slowed down. Although aortic coarctation can
occur anywhere along the aorta, the coarctation is most often located near a blood
vessel called the ductus arteriosus . (2)
It is often known that the congenital heart defects can display little to no signs and
symptoms. Congenital heart defects that are more severe can display signs and
symptoms that can be life threatening. They are diagnosed during pregnancy or
right after birth, during a physical assessment. One of the anatomical parts that
could be affected by a congenital issue is the aorta. The aorta is considered the
largest blood vessel in the body. It is the passage where the oxygen rich blood leaves
from the left side of the body the heart and carries oxygen throughout the body.
In a healthy functioning heart the blood flows from the superior and inferior vena
cava the right into the right atrium. Blood flows from the right atrium pass the

In a traditional point of view, humans are above animals, but the ability of the
merchant to understand the animals defies the traditional hierarchy. This
decentralization of the relationship between a human and an animal is significant in
the fact that the words of a rooster end up influencing the actions of a person (the
merchant). The rooster represents the traditional patriarchal concept of male
superiority over female since he discusses a stern piece of advice with a dog, after
he jumped on a hen and, finishing with her, jumped down and jumped on another
(Haddawy, 19), displaying a behavior of control and disrespect over the opposite sex.
The rooster indirectly advises the merchant, through his conversation with the dog, to
fall on her (referring to the merchantВґs wife) (19) and beat her with an oak branch
until she has no desire to question her husbandВґs actions. The merchant heeds the
words of the rooster, and reestablishes the hierarchy of male over female dominance
by using impulsive and violent animal like brutality. Yet, the hierarchy of human
reason dominance over animalistic behavior was diminished after the merchant
followed the advice of his cock. The Tale of the Merchant and the Demon also
explores changes of hierarchies related to the crossing of human animal border. In the
First Old ManВґs Tale, the infertile wife of the old man, driven by her jealousy,
causes the death of the old manВґs mistress, and
21. The Style Of Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Miller Hemingway is a renowned American novelist, poet, short story writer,
and journalist. His repute as a novelist refers to the style that greatly influenced the
twentieth century fiction authors, and for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize
in literature in 1954. His father was a doctor and he was the second of six children.
In 1917 Hemingway worked at Kansas City Star as a cub reporter. Later he went to

Hemingway lived in a six bedroom Victorian house built by Ernest s widowed
maternal grandfather, Ernest Miller Hall, an English immigrant and Civil War
Veteran who lived with the family. Hemingway was his namesake. Hemingway s
mother once aspired to an opera career and earned money giving voice and music
lessons. She was domineering out and narrowly religious, mirroring the strict
protestant ethic of Oak Park, which Hemingway later said that they had wide lawns
and narrow minds . While his mother hoped that her son would develop an interest
in music, Hemingway adopted his father s outdoorsman s hobbies of hunting,
fishing and camping in the woods and lakes of Northern Michigan. These early
experiences in close contact with nature instilled in Hemingway s lifelong passion
for outdoor adventure in remote or isolated areas. Hemingway attended Oak Park

1917. He excelled both academically and athletically; he boxed, played American
football, and displayed particular talent in English classes. His first writing
experience was writing for Trapeze and Tabula (the school newspaper and year

He sometimes wrote under the pen name Ring Lander, Jr., and nod to his literary
hero Ring Lander. After high school, Hemingway did not want to go to

Antibiotics aren t the only use of fungus in medication, Ergot alkaloids are derived
from the common fungus Claviceps purpurea and have a number of medicinal uses;
Ergotamine is prescribed to relieve migraine headaches, it can also reduce blood
pressure.
Ergonovine is used for preventing and treating bleeding after delivery of a baby or an
abortion, it is a uterine stimulant so works by increasing uterine contractions, which
helps reduce the blood loss after the baby is delivered.
Ergotamine and dihydroergotamine are less effective oxytocics than ergonovine, they
can be given orally or intravenously , it is currently used in obstetrics to treat or
prevent post partum uterine atony and to complete an incomplete or missed abortion.

Statins can reduce or remove low density lipoproteins from blood vessels in the
human body, the compounds act through an enzyme in the liver which produces
cholesterol, lovastatin inhibits HMG CoA reductase and squalestatin inhibits
squalene synthase, it works by blocking the enzyme so the body removes cholesterol
complexes from the inside of blood vessels, thereby reducing or removing blockages
in the arteries, which in turn reduces the chance of a heart attack, strokes and diabetes.
Statins can also attract stem cells towards damaged tissues, so the stem cells then
appear to regenerate the tissue.

23. Classical Opera Comparison
The elements of Baroque opera are extremely different from the musical elements of
the Classical opera. Baroque opera is more elaborate and complex in comparison to
the balanced style of classical music. While there are many similarities between the
two, there are also a significant amount of differences. Baroqueoperamade use of
harmonic progressions and chord progressions, as well as basso continuo which
was less common in the classical era of opera. Baroque had a more pleasing sound,
while classical opera emphasized form, dynamics, and balance.
Baroque is extremely polyphonic and complex, which differs from the simplicity of
classical music. Vivaldi s The Four Seasons , specifically Spring is a very upbeat and
chaotic piece. The terraced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basso continuo is relative only to the baroque era. In the classical era, basso continuo
was completely forgotten and the composers focused more on the melodic aspects of
music.
Classical music focused on the technical sides of music rather than the sound.
Classical is very structured and has one main melody with accompanied parts,
making it very simple music. Haydn s Symphony no. 94 is a great representation
of the structured and simple music that makes up the Classical era. Everyone plays
a similar and quite simple part, nothing differs too significantly and every
individual part is complimentary of the other parts. The lack of rhythm variety
among the various parts lead the piece to sound very well organized and put
together overall, because everything is very parallel. This differs vastly from the
musical styles of the Baroque era because it strays away form the polyphonic styles
associated with the Baroque era.
The renaissance era was most influential on opera. The middle ages was a productive
time in music. String instruments were invented and people began combining theatre
and music. Composers would try and create musical sequences to tell their stories,
otherwise known as the beginning of opera. But it was not

Red and green and gold and orange dance across crisp autumn sky, moved along on
the currents of a steady breeze. Sunlight filters through leaves that still clinging to
the towering Oak and Maple trees along the dirt trail. Little feet pound the ground,
compressing the leaves and sending up puffs of dirt, as a rabbit hops along
through the underbrush. He startles a flock of birds which take flight and voice
their anger at being disturbed with a chorus of shrill cawing. The little rabbit
continues his journey occasionally pausing to rummage around in the leaves, but
finds nothing to his liking and proceeds with his hopping. A sudden noise makes
him freeze in place. Cautiously, he settles onto his hind legs and his pink nose
along with his ears twitch in search of a clue to what might have caused the
disturbance. Having decided that the danger has passed the rabbit hops up onto a
log which spans a babbling brook. He rests there a moment and allows for the
coolness rising from the water to wash over him. After crossing the stream he stops
at the water s edge lapping at the water with his tiny tongue. Once he has had his fill,
he returns to his burrow nestled among a copse sapling maples, deep within the

27. The Social Structures Of Women
Data Set 1
Studies have suggested that students who sit closer to the front tend to be more
successful (Cuseo, Fecas, Thompson). There is also evidence that fewer women
than men make it to the most upper level careers ( Women in Leadership ). With
this knowledge, I hypothesized that women sit on the back row more often than
the front row. The social structures that cause women to keep from these careers
may also cause them to sit farther back in class, being less engaged during school.
Women at BYU especially are socially pressured to stay in the home, so they will
likely respond to this and be less engaged in school rather than preparing for a
career. I expect front row seating to be negatively correlated with females.
I collected my data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data carries some validity because it was taken in a class required by two
majors, and the class contains both men and women. Validity is also provided
because the people did not know that they were being observed, so the behavior I
observed was unaffected by my data collection.
I used column percentages to compare the variables and test for substantive
significance. I used this test because both of my variables yielded categorical data.
53.6 percent of males chose to sit on the front row and 53.8 percent of females
chose to as well. There is no difference between these values, so the data is not
substantively significant. This test shows that in the class I observed, the choice to
sit in the front or back rows is not affected by a person s gender.
I used the computer to run a Chi square test to determine statistical significance
because both my dependent and independent variables were dichotomous. It was
unnecessary to use comparison of means because both variables were dummy
variables. I expect these variables to be positively correlated. The Chi square value of
0.987 yielded a p value of 0.3205, so I can reject the null hypothesis with only 68
percent confidence; therefore I fail to reject the null hypothesis. This means that
gender is not a significant factor in seat choice. With more data the relationship could
be tested more effectively and with more validity, but my research has been
28. What Does Light Symbolize In Macbeth
The contrast of darkness and light symbolizes evil and goodness which is the
foundation that Macbeth is built on. Darkness in our society tends to indicate many
symbols of evil or deceitfulness. The usage of this particular motif, foreshadows what
happens to the characters. The audience can tell something bad is going to happen
before it even happens. Light, in Macbeth, seems to indicate truth or innocence.
In Act I, Macbeth is debating with himself about whether or not he should make his
own path to make himself King or let Fate make him King. Macbeth, talking to
himself, says, Stars, hide your fires/ let not see my black and deep desires... (1.4)
Darkness is used figuratively in this dialogue, indicating that black and deep
symbolizes his evil and bad intentions. Macbeth does not want the light (other
people), or his goodness, to see that he wants to murder King Duncan in order to
become the new king because he doesn t want to face the fact that he is thinking of
committing murder. Shakespeare contrasts light, the stars, with darkness, black and

The practice of using animals as therapy tools is becoming ever more popular and
common place in the mental health field. Animal assisted therapy (AAT) was
formally defined by the Delta Society as a goal directed intervention in which an
animal that meets specific criteria is an integral part of the treatment process (Kruger,
Trachtenberg, Serpell, 2004). The hope is that the specially trained animal will help
facilitate conversation, and subsequently healing, between the therapist and the client.
AAT is focused on improving the humans physical, mental, emotional, and social

30. The Importance Of Confidentiality
The impact and importance of keeping confidentiality agreements with clients in the
mental health profession is discussed with the defining reasons for forming the
therapeutic bond between the therapist and client. A compendious glimpse is given to
the pledge therapists make to clients and society, as well as the morally ethical
obligation to inform clients of the circumstantial reasons that necessitates breaking
confidentiality. Included is a sententious denotation of notable cases which
illuminated the challenging intricacies of honoring confidentiality and the mandated
guidelines adopted by the mental healthprofession as a result of the verdicts rendered.
Legalities in Counseling: Morals, Ethics, and Confidentiality Agreements
Although the counselor client confidentiality agreement exists and must be held with
utmost importance, it is imperative for professional therapists and counselors to still
be conscious of the limitations to this rule. Confidentiality must be at the very core of
the therapeutic relationship for the rehabilitation process to be successfully effective,
which is the cornerstone of the counseling profession. When trust is broken, or the
confidentiality has been compromised, providing that breaking this agreement falls
within its limitations, the expectancy of failure of the relationship is likely to ensue
(Capuzzi Gross, 2011). In this paper, I will attempt to briefly explain the pledge of
confidentiality that therapists make to both the client and
31. Volunteering And Adult Learning Essay
Volunteering and Adult Learning
The history of adult education has been a history of voluntary activity and voluntary
association (Ilsley 1989, p. 100).
Today, volunteerism, and the growing field of volunteer management, continue to
reflect close associations with adult education. Research and practice in adult
education can inform the development of learning opportunities for volunteers. With
this in mind, this Digest describes some of the similarities between the fields of
volunteer management and adult education and examines some of the types and
methods of learning that occur in the context of volunteering.

The establishment of standards both for the profession of volunteer management
and for volunteer service itself is generating debates similar to those among adult
educators over purposes and objectives. Ilsley (1989) suggests that
professionalization is making the volunteer field more technical and market
oriented, similar to the way business language and methods are being borrowed in
adult education. The agenda of volunteer organizations, especially those focused on
social change, is in danger of being coopted as government and corporations
formalize what may have been more grassroots, nonformal efforts (ibid.). Elsey
(1993) identifies a similar debate in both the volunteer field and adult education over
focus on individuals or society. He envisions the two fields forming a third way
between government and the free market in the formation of civil society. For Elsdon
(1995), voluntary activity is about both individuation and good citizenship, for it is
through individual empowerment, achieved by participating and learning from that
experience, that service is rendered.
Learning through Volunteering
Learning is part of the contract between the organization and the volunteer (McCabe
1997, p. 18). Volunteering is a powerful source of learning (Ross Gordon and
Dowling 1995, p. 307). Altruism may be the most obvious reason behind
volunteering, but there are many other motivational factors that have an explicit or
implicit link to learning. For

some areas up to an eighty percent increase. After the increase in prices, there was a
sudden collapse of real estate prices in 2008, brought on by a surge in foreclosures,
and an increasing inventory of housing.1 Foreclosure increases came from an
unprecedented rise in mortgages called, subprime mortgages. These risky subprime
mortgages, and the cottage industry within the financial sector that profited from
them, created an overly leveraged and over exposed finance industry that created a
massive recession when the bubble popped. In this essay, we will look into the many

Foreign investors starving for fixed income securities that also had returns better than
government securities, decided to invest in mortgage back securities provided by
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In order to take advantage of the savings glut Wall
Street firms began to package many of these sub prime mortgages together and
create what was known as a mortgage backed security.1 A mortgage backed
security, was an asset backed security that was secured by a collection of upwards
a several hundred mortgages. The issue was the mortgage back securities provided
by Fannie, Freddie, and investment banks were given good ratings by rating
agencies such as Standard and Poor s and Moody s, even though these assets were
toxic. They gave the mortgage back securities good ratings, because their risk
assessment models solely used previous housing data, and did not include any
possibility of a fall in housing prices.3 As a result, overseas investors believed they
were getting secure assets with above average returns, but instead they were getting
very toxic assets instead. So the interest in these mortgage back securities continued
the flood of savings, continuing the suppression of interest rates and maintained the
status quo.2 Banks lent out these sub prime mortgages at a prolific rate because
even if the borrower foreclosed, banks were still able to make a profit, as they
resold a higher priced house. Another form of easy credit came from the historically

Democracy
Democracy is a generic term and every mature person living in today s world is
familiar with it. Democracy is a topic of debate now a days and most of the
research about it has already been conducted through surveys and choices of people.
Democracy is a system that assures the people s part in taking decisions of state and
political affairs through the right of voting. The generic definition and concepts of
democracy are easy accessible on many websites online. Democracy is a on which
almost 70% of the research is already done and further research is mostly taken in
order to check the shifting choices of the people.
Mostly the new generations are more attracted towards the concept of democracy
and many organizations tend to analyze the changing behavior of people. The
generic data about democracy on the internet has also explains it very well.
According to the generic data found on internet democracy can also be defined as
the government by the people . The government is supposed to be made with the
majority voting of the people and people are free to vote any candidate of their own
choice in a democratic country. (Building)
The democratic countries give power of choice to their people so that the decision
of the people should be made a supreme decision as the rulers supposed to rule on
them and the people should have the right to select their rulers freely. Democracy in
countries is dependent upon many factors and the main factor stood as the active
39. Counter Hegemonic Ideologies In Bloody Sunday

constantly being shaped by the interaction between the systems and the participation,
whether consciously or unconsciously, of all individuals in the society. Those who
perpetuate the system buy into the hegemonic ideologies, or the status quo, and those
who actively seek to challenge the status quo embrace counter hegemonic ideologies.
In 2013, a clash of ideologies towards current state of racism put the necessity of the

Martin Luther King, Jr., the leader of SCLC, and SNCC went into Selma and started
nonviolent demonstrations that drew the attention of nationwide media and exposed
the injustice of the structural barriers that continued to exist in the Southern states. In
the video Bridge to Freedom, the video clips of Bloody Sunday showed the protestors
peaceful attempt to cross the bridge to begin the march to Montgomery was met with
large scale violence, and many were beaten and teargassed into unconsciousness. ,
The escalation of violence can be described as the backlash of hegemony as those
who wanted to protect their own interests turned to violence in a desperate attempt to
maintain the status quo. However, instead of quelling the counter hegemonic
movements, the escalation of violence caught the attention of the media and the
footages of violent policemen beating peaceful protestors were able to reach the
nation. These footages undoubtedly shocked the nation because many living in the
Northern states were disconnected and ignorant to the situation in the South. As
Johnson states in his excerpt, individuals who are ignorant of the social issue
unconsciously perpetuates the system. Here, we see the importance of media in its
ability to enlighten and inspire those who were ignorant to start actively stand up
against the system of white supremacy. We also see the significance of counter
hegemonic movements as their efforts paved way for the Voting Rights Act, which
was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson in March 1965. The passing of the
Voting Rights Act was a step closer to dismantling the system of white supremacy,
however, not everyone viewed the Voting Rights Act as a favorable

Warner Bros was seen as more economical and down to earth because they
contrasted the lives of hard working chorus girls living in cheap apartments with the

What distinguished the films that burst forth from MGM in the 1940s and 1950s,
mostly under the producer Arthur Freed, was the integration of musical numbers into
the film s narrative. In these features the best being directed by Charles Walters,
George Sidney, Vincente Minnelli, Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly song, dance, and

42. Symbolic Tone
John Donne s The Sun Rising and Auden s Funeral Blues use hyperbolic language
to convey intense feelings towards the speakers beloved. Both believe all is lesser
to their feelings, that even wise, celestial beings are less important than the
existence of the one they love. They take on a dramatically different tone however,
as the speaker of Funeral Blues laments the death of their loved, proclaiming I was
wrong, while the lovers in The Sun Rising remain peacefully in their bed. Both
speakers feel that their love is all they have and all they need, to vastly differing
effects. In Funeral Blues Donne s persona is distraught, feeling that his love was his
North, South, East, and West, conveying that now that he is gone the speaker feels he
is without direction. By the comparison to a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is evident in the titles of the works, the sun rising provoking thoughts of new
beginnings and excitement. rising suggests an uplifting aura, though this is hampered
by the speaker immediately calling the sun a busy old fool in opening. Combined
these factors suggest youthful arrogance. The title Funeral Blues is even more
indicative, setting the sombre tone of the work due to the death of a loved one. The
structuring of the poems contributes also, with Funeral Blues having a regular AABB
pattern, making lines feel uniform and serious. It suggests that while the speaker has
lost so much he clings to structure and order. In comparison to this, The Sun Rising
follows a less consistent rhyming scheme, with some lines rhyming with the one
after, and some alternating. This creates a looser, less serious feel, reflecting the
emotions of the poem. Lines are placed irregularly, some indenting further than
others, giving the poem its playful feel as they run irregularly down the page.
Structural aspects play an important role in the creation of tone within the

Spooner writes the justification that is given by the north for the Civil War and
Spooner is out raged at how the northern states say that they were acting out of
liberty and freedom, but they were not for they had fought for the unity of the
country, because the southern people did not want to be put in to a government they
did not want and did not give their consent to that government for in reality they
would only become slave to the government. Spooner writes that this government just

Gatsby s life and death product of an illusion
The majority of people in this world live a life that could possibly be a product of an
illusion. An illusion could possibly ruin the lives of many people, by making the
people live a life full of lies and dishonesty. The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, is a fictional, dramatic novel. In the novel, one of the main characters,
named Gatsby, is seen living a life that was a product of lies, and dishonesty. There
is no doubt that Gatsby s whole life, in addition to his death, was a product of an
illusion.
The beginning of Gatsby s illusion was when Gatsby was seventeen. At the age of
seventeen James Gatz, Gatsby s real name, witnessed an event that changed his
life. For Example, when Gatsby saw Dan Cody s yacht anchored over the most
dangerous place on the lake, James Gatz informed Cody that a wind might catch
him and break him up in half an hour. (Fitzgerald 105). The encounter that James
Gatz had with Cody was what started the illusion that Gatz was going to live for the
rest of his life. Gatz saw the opportunity to help someone in need and in the process
of doing so, Gatz also saw the opportunity to change his name and become someone
different. By Gatz informing Cody of this problem and saving Cody s life, Gatsby
became someone totally different than what Gatsby was and this gave Gatsby the
ability to live a different life. In addition, after Cody died,
47. Paillier Is A Homomorphic Cryptosystem Essay
Paillier is a homomorphic cryptosystem. It allows us to compute the addition of two
encrypted values c1 and c2 without the need to decrypt them. According to the
homomorphic property, the product of the two cipher texts (c1 * c2), when decrypted
gives the sum of their corresponding plain texts (m1 + m2). This property gives rise
to interesting homotopies (paths between paths) in our higher inductive type cryptR.
Consider the two paths increment by 100 and crypt increment by 100 in cryptR
which are defined as follows:
increment by 100 : {m n : Nat} в†’ (i : Fin m) в†’ (r : Records n m) в†’ (ctab r) в‰
Ў
(ctab (INCREMENT100 i :: r)) crypt increment by 100 : {m n : Nat} в†’ (p q : Nat)
в†’ (i : Fin m) в†’ (r : Records n m) в†’ (ctabPL r) в‰
Ў (ctabPL (CRYPT
INCREMENT100 p , q , i :: r))
(increment by 100 i r) is a path from a plain text table to another plain text table
whose value at i is incremented by 100. (crypt increment by 100 p q i r) is a path
from a paillier encrypted table to another paillier encrypted table whose value at i is
a product of the cipher text at i and the cipher text of 100.
In the presence of the above two paths, we have a homotopy in cryptR defined as
follows:
The above diagram commutes. There exists a heterogeneous path (transported
through PAILLIER HOMOMORPHISM) between the concatenated path (paillier enc

48. Analysis Of The Hard Nut By Mark Morris
It is incredibly hard to take a classic, a piece known by thousands, recognizable by
the first few notes of music, and change a single thing without inducing wrath. The
Hard Nut by Mark Morris is a contemporary dance piece choreographed in the early
1990s. It is a piece based off of the Nutcracker, following a slightly altered story,
though keeping the original music and much of the original concept. The dance
focused on will be The Waltz of the Snowflakes. This dance, in particular, reflects
concepts of beauty beyond gender, while also reflecting how the concepts of gender
were challenged during the time period that this was originally choreographed and
performed in, reflected through both the choreography and the set. The Hard Nut is a
stunning piece of contemporary balletalters the original concepts of the Nutcracker
while still honoring the original. The modernized version is meant to take place in
possibly 1960s or 1970s, opposed to the Victorian Era most use, but the setting isn
t the only thing that is modernized in this piece. The Waltz of the Snowflakes is a
fan favorite of the original Nutcracker, where the snowflakes, donned in beautiful
white tutus, dance around Clara and the prince, creating a stunning winter scene.
The original and the modernized version do have the costuming in common, which
wouldn t be surprising was it not for the dancers involved. While the Waltz of the
Snowflakes is traditionally a rather feminine piece, Mark Morris chose here to use
the entire ensemble, regardless of gender, in the dance, all of whom wore the same
white tutu costumes with headpieces that further hid their gender and sex.
Additionally, the choreography in the dance, unlike most ballet pieces, is not
separated by gender. Each dancer dances the same choreography regardless of their
sex or gender. The choice of contemporary ballet is perfect for the message and
concepts behind the piece, taking a story, or long held dance rules, and bending them
to modern times while still protecting the integrity of the original piece or style. The
lack of separation in this piece is a stunning reflection of the concept that gender or
sex has no correlation with beauty.
The choreography in this piece is gorgeous, even
49. Colonial Potosi Religion Essay
The relationship between wealth and religion in colonial Potosi as described by
Arzans is a somewhat unique one. Arzans stories describe a city of great wealth,
that however also has a great tie to religion. The stories tell a tale of a city that is
very generous with its wealth in giving back to the poor. Also the stories tell of the
misfortune of those that attempt to attain wealth for the wrong reasons, or use their
significant wealth to attempt to do some kind of evil. In colonial Potosi, the ideas of
wealth, and religionseem to be significantly tied to one another throughout Arzans
stories. Arzans himself seems to see the relationship between the two ideas to be
connected. For an example of this we can look at the story of The Downfall of Don
Francisco Chocata. In this story we see a description of a man of considerable wealth
that he attained through a friendship with Don Juan Velarde. In the story we see
Chocata attempt to use his wealth for the wrong reasons in trying to... Show more

Through the previous example we can see that god clearly rewarded those who
believed in him with tremendous wealth in Potosi. For another example of this we
can look at the story of Sebastian and His Golden Spurs. In the story Sebastian is a
poor man, and through his belief in god throughout his ordeal in the mine, he is
rewarded with good health, and significant wealth for his family to live. God
rewarded him with this wealth by a good supply of very rich ore that could not
have been in that place by any natural agency, but must have been put there
supernaturally by god . For those that achieve longevity in Potosi it seems that
wealth tends to promote righteousness among them. If they believe in god, and give
to the poor graciously they will continue to enjoy wealth. In this way, the people of
Potosi per Arzans, continued to give to the poor as graciously as possible, and had a
very important belief in
50. College Debt And Student Completion And Attendance

College Debt and Student Completion and Attendance In mid 2010 higher education
debt surpassed credit card debt at $830 billon dollars(Clemmitt 877 900). Debt has
become an increasing problem for students who want to attend college. As more
students try to further their education, tuition rises and so does the amount of loans
taken out each year. According to Belkin, Students attending public four year
institutions this academic year are paying an average of $12,620, up $220 from last
year, for tuition, room and board, meaning that tuition is only growing not decreasing
from previous years(Belkin n.p.). Many people debate over whether they should
attend college and be in debt or if they should get a job somewhere that allows them
to live a comfortable life debt free. Two thirds of college graduates have to take out
loans in order to get through college(Dwyer, McCloud, Hodson 1133 1155). Many
people question, Does rising college debt limit who attends and completes college?
, while many people have different opinions on this particular subject, I believe that
it depends on the student and their situation if college debt limits who attends and
completes college because it depends on their financial stability, it depends on if
they are borrowing the right amount and it depends on if their degree provides them
with the means to pay back their loans, however, many people would disagree with
me and say that yes, college
52. Cambodian Society And Its Contemporary Political,...
Cambodian society is still affected by almost three decades of civil war that
devastated the country physically and psychologically, and faces high levels of
poverty and poor development indicators (Malena and Chhim 2009). Whereas
considerable progress has been made since the Peace Agreements in 1991, Cambodias
recent past has shaped its contemporary political, cultural, and socio economic
context. The characteristics of these dimensions have contributed to the poor
governance of the Cambodian administration as well as a hierarchical system
influenced by patrimonial power structures and patron client relationships, in which
corruption is commonplace (Nikkei Asian Review 2014). Furthermore, this neo
patrimonial system might persist for various reasons, including: limited notion of
social accountability among civil society organizations and the reticence of citizens to
challenge the Government (Johnson, Hyde and Rosenfeld 2014).
However, the public attitudes and levels of awareness are changing in Cambodia, and
citizens are increasingly exercising their political voice to change the system. In
addition, the Government s commitment to fighting corruption and governance
reform has been reflected since 2004 when Cambodia started applying the
Rectangular Strategy for Growth based on good governance as a main policy
(Kevreaksmey et al. 2015). The study in this report originates from the application of
the Strategic Governance And Corruption Analysis (SGACA), a methodology

Often times when in conversation with friends, peers, and even strangers there is one
question that seems to always come up; What is your favorite restaurant? People are
curious in seeing what type of restaurant you like because when revealing that
information it tells more about you than you think. When telling somebody where
you enjoy eatingit gives them a sense of how much you re willing to spend for a
good meal, what side of town you like to go to and even gives them a slight glance at
your personality. When asked that question I undoubtingly respond the same way
every time; The CheesecakeFactory! Let s explore the strengths and weaknesses of

There are so many different restaurants serving so many different types of food.
There are Chinese restaurants, Japanese restaurants, Classic American restaurants,
Italian restaurants, it makes it difficult to decide what to eat at dinner time. What
gives a restaurant the upper hand over its competition?
The Cheesecake factory has some key strengths that keeps it running at a high
level. The Cheesecake Factory has a low employee turnover rate. That means that
once they hire somebody the person usually keeps the job for a long time. Of
course you have situations and instances where some employees have to be let go
for whatever reason, but when you check your numbers as to how many had to go
verses how many are still working in good standings, you have to tip your hat to
your employment staff. Another strength of the Cheesecake Factory is that they
have such a large variety of dishes and desserts. Variety is key when in the
restaurant business because many times there are so many other restaurant that are
serving the same style, if not the same exact dishes as you. The Cheesecake factory
have hundreds of different cheesecakes to choose from. You will not find another
restaurant with that much variety in their desserts. Their main courses and
appetizers follow suit with amazingly large selection. One more advantage of the
Cheesecake Factory is its ability to appeal to various kinds of people; in other words,

A founding member of the Axis Alliance, the German Empire is militarily aligned
with the Kingdom of Italy and The Empire of Japan. A close ally of the Kingdom of
Italy, the German Empire has consistently supported the Italian campaigns in both

the Heer (army), the Luftwaffe (air force), and the Kreigsmarine (navy). Recently,
the Luftwaffe lost the battle of Britain conceding a decisive victory to the RAF.
Though recently defeated, The Luftwaffe proved deadly effective on the eastern
front. The main focus of the Kriegsmarine has been the constant and unrelenting
blockade of Britain in the battle of the Atlantic. To great results, the U boat
wolfpacks have sunk hundreds of thousands of tons of shipping since the onset of the
war. The majority of the Heer, however, is heavily engaged along the German border
with The Soviet Union. In June the Axis launched operation Barbarossa, the invasion
of the Soviet Union with over 5 million troops. Currently, the Soviet Union is losing
an immense amount of supplies, troops, and territory. The soviets have already
suffered over two million casualties and have been pushed back over 400 miles in
