3. While the work of Antoni Gaudi remains some of the most cele-
brated throughout history, his is not the only work to have influ-
enced the architectural landscape. From the classic architectural
eras of Roman and Greek to the high-tech, industrial designs of
the modern era, the architectural space continues to evolve.
THE DECONSTRUCTIVISM MOVEMENT
Emerging in the 1980s, deconstructivism draws on irregular
shapes and angles, challenging traditional structures and forms
by breaking them down and putting them back together in unu-
sual ways. It often features unconventional materials and seeks
to create a sense of disorientation, pushing the boundaries of
what is considered possible.
Notable names of this movement include Frank Gehry, designer
of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Dancing
House in Prague, and gravity-defying Dutch architect Remment
Lucas Koolhaas, designer of the Qatar National Library and the
CCTV Headquarters in Bejing.
HIGH-TECH ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNS
High-tech architecture has taken the world by storm, introducing
a more industrial look to the landscape. One of the best exam-
ples of this architectural movement is the HSBC Main Building in
Hong Kong, designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners. He
is also responsible for The Gherkin, located in London.
