Fortune 500 Company
Introduction
Over the last 30 plus years, Human Resources Department has evolved from the people who
conducted all administration duties like the keeper of the records in the filing cabinets to the backbone
of an organization. Human resources management can be defined as that part of management
concerned with: All the decisions, strategies, factors, principles, operations, practices, functions,
activities and methods related to the management of people as employees in any type of organization
(Mahapatro, 2010). The changes to Human Resources management has been beneficial to everyone
within an organization. As technology advances so do Human Resources as it takes on different roles
and advancements like Human Resources Information Systems. Human Resources Information
System (HRIS) is a system used to acquire, store, manipulate, analyze, retrieve, and distribute
information related to the company s human resources department. From the Human Resource
manager s viewpoint, an HRIS can be used to support decision making, to avoid lawsuits, to help
evaluate programs or company policies, and to assist in daily operating procedures in the organization.
Depending on your organizational needs there are multiple HRIS software vendors to fit their needs
from payroll management, general or emergency

Critiquing A Qualitative And Quantitative Study
Critiquing of a Qualitative and Quantitative Study The purpose of this paper will be to present the
contrasts in the type of information that was gained while reviewing two studies. The studies reviewed
were a qualitative study and a quantitative study. The general advantages and disadvantages of the two
types of studies will also be presented. Qualitative and quantitative studies both have a place in
research, even though the two study designs take a very different approach to research. Lastly, a
response will be given in support of the qualitative research being beneficial to the world of science.
Contrasts in Qualitative versus Quantitative Research
The qualitative study by Madigan, Fleming, McCann, Wright, and MacAuley (2007), explored the
general practitioner s (GPs) knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to enteral feeding in the
community. A qualitative study is subjective and focuses on describing a problem or a condition from
the point of view of those who have experienced the problem or issue (Pilot Beck, 2012). The
information in the study was more in depth, less generalizable while using a smaller sample size. The
sample size is based on informational needs. When saturation has been achieved, there are no more
occurring themes and redundancy is present, the researchers can stop looking for participants. Semi
structured one on one interviews were the method of choice when conducting this study. Open ended
questions were used during the interview

Rappaccini s Daughter And The Birthmark By Nathaniel...
The Interrogated Science Science is one of the most important factors that many science fictions deal
with. Some of them describe the positive and useful side of science such as the description of sciences
like mathematics, physics, chemistry and many other fields of study. While some of the other science
fictions describe the dangerous sides of science that can hurt and even kill human beings. Concerning
this idea, Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the American writers of the mid nineteenth century who
writes about art and science. This paper will describe the sort of science that need to be interrogated
and how is combined by comparing Rappaccini s daughter and The Birthmark by the role of the
scientists, Dr. Aylmer and Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aylmer tried to convince his wife with a plan that achieves her happiness by enjoying the perfect
beauty. His gambles started when he was isolated with his wife in an apartment provided with a
laboratory. It was a symbol of his discoveries of the elemental power of nature. This time, Georgian
was one of the elements Aylmer used to discover the physiological truth by his plan of removing his
wife s mark. As compared to Dr. Aylmer, Dr. Rappacini is also a skilled physician who makes a
different scientific experiment on both human beings and plants. He is a famous doctor by which his
name is heard as far as Naples. He makes a medication from strange plants like collecting the strange
flowers in his garden. Signor Pietro Baglioni, one of the main characters of Rappaccini s Daughter
story, describes Doctor Rappaccini when he says: Doctor Rappaccini has as much science as any
member of the faculty with perhaps one single exception in Padua or all Italy. But there are certain
grave objections to his professional character (Hawthrone 4). It means that Doctor Rappaccini is as far
as he is a good scientist, he has some issues with his character. One of these issues, as Dr. Aylmer has,
is his concentration on science more than mankind (4). He deals with his patients as if they are only
experiments. He is ready to sacrifice any human life, himself or anyone dearest to him for adding
anything possible to his knowledge. Giovani, who is another important character,

The Effect of Volcanic Eruptions on Climate
The Effect of Volcanic Eruptions on Climate
Introduction
Recently there has been a lot of research in the field of climate change, and much of it is focused on
anthropogenic affects on climate. However, there has also been a great deal of research focused on
natural Earth processes and how they affect the climate (Robock 2000). One natural process which
significantly impacts climate is volcanic eruptions. Volcanic eruptions affect the climate of the earth in
many ways (Zielinski et al 1997). Volcanic ash ejected during eruptions effect climate by reflecting
solar rays back into space, and thus cooling the surface of the Earth. Another way volcanoes affect the
Earth s climate, is the emission of many different types of volcanic gasses. ... Show more content on

Compared to the total anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gasses, the effect CO2 and H2O vapour
have on global warming is relatively low, but spikes in greenhouse gas levels can be seen when major
eruptions occur (Cassadevall et al 1983). During the Mt St Helens eruption in 1980, Cassadevall et al
(1983) used a gas chromatograph to measure the average daily emissions of CO2 gas which he
combined to form the average monthly emissions. He recorded that for six months following the
eruption over 5000 metric tons of CO2 were released per day then after six months the emission rates
slowly declined. The CO2 and H2O vapour released during eruptions does have a marginal effect on
the climate, but by far the most influential gases on Earth s climate are the sulfuric gasses released.
Effects of Volcanic SO2 on Climate
The most common sulfuric gas released from volcanic eruptions is SO2. The effect that SO2 has on
climate is much more complicated than other volcanic gasses such as CO2 and H2O vapour. SO2 also
affects Earth s climate much more severely than volcanic ash, CO2 and H2O gasses (Zeilinski et al
1997). The kind of effect SO2 has on the climate is directly related to its concentrations in the
atmosphere and thus the amount of volcanic activity during a given time frame (Robock 2000). When
SO2 is released from volcanoes, it readily reacts with H2O and OH compounds to form sulfuric acid
H2SO4. Sulfuric acid acts like a typical aerosol reflecting solar rays back

Minisatellites Essay
Minisatellites
Along with the development of the PCR, a new type of polymorphism of DNA was discovered in the
DNA structure known as hypervariable minisatellites. Large proportion of the eukaryotes genomes is
consists of non coding DNA. Usually, this non coding region carries some regulatory elements such as
promoters and enhancers but in many cases it also contains repetitive elements, e.g. multiple repeats
(Turner et al., 1998). These repetitions include satellite DNA, which comprises thousands of tandem
repeats in one site, as well as minisatellite and microsatellite DNA, depending on the number of
repeats (Vanhala et al., 1998). These minisatellites are defined regions of DNA with polymorphisms in
the number of repeated nucleotide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically they may be dinucleotides (AC)n, (AG)n, (AT)n; trinucleotides (TCT)n, (TTG)n;
tetranucleotides (TATG)n and so on, where n is the number of repeating units within the microsatellite
locus. In addition to occurring at many different loci, they can also be polyallelic (Selkoe and Toonen,
2006). They are repeated (usually 5 20 times) in the genome with a minimum repeat length of 12 base
pairs (Goodfellow, 1992). Liu et al., 2001c profound that the best known examples of microsatellites
within coding regions are those causing genetic diseases in humans, such as the CAG repeats that
encode polyglutamine tract, resulting in mental retardation. Microsatellites tend to mutate with
mutation rates of up to 10 2 per generation (Bruford and Wayne, 1993). Variation in the number of
tandemly repeated units is mainly due to strand slippage during DNA replication where the repeats
allow matching via excision or addition of repeats (Schlotterer and Tautz, 1992). As slippage in
replication is more likely than point mutations, microsatellite loci tend to be hypervariable.
Microsatellite assays show extensive inter individual length polymorphisms during PCR analysis of
unique loci using discriminatory primers sets. Microsatellites are inherited in a Mendelian fashion as
codominant markers (Schlotterer, 2004). This is strength of microsatellite markers in addition to their

Summary Of The Film Mr And Mrs. Iyer
The world we live in is a extremely diverse place, it s more diverse than we think. The world itself has
195 countries and over 6900 languages and some languages still have not come into light. In the
continent of Asia there are numerous amount of countries, languages and ethnic groups, one third of
the languages spoken in the world are in Asia. South Asia consists of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan,
Bangladesh, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal and Afghanistan, out of all these countries India remains the
most diverse with over two thousand ethnic groups and 1,652 languages and 122 languages belong to
the major population. Diversity in India or any country does not mean unity. In India there is a lot of
tension and animosity between certain religious and ethnic groups, which is still ongoing today and
the outside world may not be aware of it, but in the film Mr. and Mrs. Iyer by Aparna Sen the
unsettled issues are addressed. Mr and Mrs Iyer addresses the social hierarchies and the ethnic
differences in India and shows how each group perceives one another. On the bus there is a group of
people from different regions, religions and age groups. Tamil, Muslim, Punjabi, Bengali,Muslim,
Hindu, and Jewish people were present on the bus and different age groups were shown as well. There
was Tamil Brahmin woman named Meenakshi on the bus who is very educated and cultural. She

The whole of the Ramayana is an Epic of humanity. Humanity does not mean mankind but that which
particularly human nature. It is in this sense, Sri Rama is oftentimes called the paragon of humanity,
an example of the perfection of human nature. This perfection is not inclusive of the foibles of man in
his lower endowments. That majestic feature of bodily personality, the ideal perfection of

There, for the first time, is a proclamation divinity of Rama, where Mandodari in deep sorrow over the
death of Ravana, her husband, exclaims that it is Narayana that has come as Nara which in fact is
unknown to Ravana and due to his ignorance, he has mistaken Rama for a human being. The
contradiction that Valmiki brings out is that while he puts these words in the mouth of Mandodari, he
puts a different type of statement in the mouth of Rama himself. When the whole theme is over, the
drama has been played, Brahma comes and speaks to Rama, Thou art Lord Narayana, Thy play in this
world is over, and we seek Thy entry back into Vaikuntha. And Rama says in reply: What are you
speaking? I do not know anything. Am I Narayana! I think I am only a man Atmanam Manusham
Manye. Whatever you may think or speak about me, I think I am a man, I am a human being. These
are the words of Rama himself. While Rama himself is thinking that he is only a man, Brahma speaks
of Him as Narayana and wants Him to go back to His Abode, as His drama in this world is over. These
interesting dramatic contradictions are brought into play by the genius of Valmiki, deliberately to
fulfill the purpose of the Epic. Otherwise, there would be no meaning in the play itself.
It was not at all given to Rama to proclaim himself as Narayana. That was not the purpose of the
Avatara at all. Sometimes, we are told that the ten Avataras, incarnations of Visnu beginning from the

My Journey to the U.S.A.
If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine it is lethal (Paulo Coelho). I d always liked to travel
but not as much anymore. September 16, 2007 was the most chaotic day of my life. I was 12 years old
when we left Iran. Know let me tell you the events leading you to that day. My parents decide that we
should move to the United State so that way we would be closer to the rest of our family. Okay, now
to the day before chaos began.
Like any other day I woke up and did what most people do in the morning; get dressed and eat. Two of
my dad s friends had come over to help my dad take our luggage to the airport a day before so we didn
t have too much things with us. I remember we were all sitting in the living room and my younger
sister, 7 at the time that just gotten up and walked into the living room with her pajamas on. She had
gotten so scared when she say that we that company over. Her face was so red from embarrassment I
died laughing, I m a good sister, won t you say.
My dad left with his friends to go to the airport. My mom and sister and I went down stairs to our
neighbor s house. Pretty much the last few weeks, we ate eating delicious savory Armenian barbecue.
Since it was the last day we had barbecue with our neighbors. By lunch time my dad had already
gotten home from the airport. My sister, dad, and our neighbor s husband were down in the garage

Three Religious Paintings
In this project I will compare the setting of three religious paintings. One set involves the interior of
fifteenth century architect, another located in a natural landscape, and one with a heavenly backdrop.
This expository paper will reveal how these different locations affect a viewer s spiritual experience,
and decipher whether or not these environments are generic, symbolic, or specific. The artwork titled
Painting of Ghent Altarpiece in Chapel, located in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, was created by Jan van
Eyck (Davies et al. 482). The scale and setting of this painting is unmistakably impressive. The
purpose of the altarpiece is to clarify the ceremony performed before it (482). Jan work is big in scale
and thorough with detail and color that glows (482). This environment is a generic place, although it is
a holy place, it is also very common as chapels can be found in virtually every church. The fifteenth
century landscape calendar page Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry was created by the Limbourg
Brothers in France (Davies et al. 474). In this panel, the month of July is illustrated, as is the passage
of time in many ways (474). The dome shape at the top of the seasonal training marks the days of the

The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities
The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the
argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating that
he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 1945
Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held philosophy
of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their national
obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national loyalty leads
to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead preferring to focus on
distant and external evils.
Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse by
those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to the
very security that such systems ought to safeguard. As such, blowing the whistle on such activities can
be an effective mechanism of exposing the ills that characterize intelligence systems. Furthermore,
Scheurman (2014) argues that a requirement for whistleblower identity disclosure as proposed in
Sagar s framework enhances their opportunity to fulfill their obligations to justify their actions. They
further state that whistleblower identity disclosure demonstrates civic mindedness. In addition, the
disclosure of the whistle blower s identity helps to prevent

Ryanair s Pricing Strategy Of Ryan Air
Ryanair positioned itself as a low cost airline, which delivered services equivalent to that of British
Airways and Aer Lingus. In terms of service quality, they positioned themselves in the same category
as the aforementioned airlines, but at the same time, charging a relatively low price when compared to
British Airways and Aer Lingus. Their strategy was to deliver first rate/ good quality customer
services and offer meals and amenities comparable to that of British Airways and Aer Lingus. The
second strategy was to charge a single fare ticket of I£98 on it Dublin London service, which was very
low when compared to British Airways and Aer Lingus s rate of I£208 or I£99 if booked in advance.

This reaction of Ryanair s competitors will be discussed more lately in this paper. Given that Ryanair
is a new airline, chances of survival will be slim if they engage in a price war.
If all is in favor of Ryanair, they will be able to acquire a sizeable portion of its competitor s market
share for that route, as well as acquire new customers from other transport options such as trains and
ferries, by offering a faster commute. To compare the price with competitors and consider this
opportunity for Ryanair s service between Dublin and London, Ryanair should estimate the cost and
the possibility of seats sold by using British Airways revenue and cost in exhibit 4 of the case study.
From the exhibit 4, Ryanair can calculate the possibility of seats sold by finding the ratio of customers
who do not book the seat of British Airways in advance and compare to its own seats available
annually. The British Airways average revenue per passenger equals to I£166.5. Also, British Airways
is selling its ticket at the price of I£208, and I£99 for early advance booking. Therefore, only around
38.07% of British Airways customers bought the seat in advance, while the rest, 61.93%, paid for full
amount of I£208. That means the round trip passengers around 309,633 persons out of a half million
paid at the price of I£208. On the other hand, Ryanair would run only four

North Korea Autocracy
Throughout our entire history there has been a prefered way of command. In the early stages of
civilizations, an autocracy was preferred. Now in the Modern Age, Democracy is favored. With more
globalization now than there ever was, the normal citizens of the State have more economic influence.
Democracy is the worst form of government on earth except for all the rest (Winston Churchill) Like
Churchill, I also think that Democracy is the prefered type of government for the world we live in
today because it leads to more economic growth. Democracy is a type of government where the
population of the State votes for the policies. Democratic Government can be a pure Democracy,
Republic or any mix of those two. Typically in a Democracy the policies favor the public, like tax
proportional to your income. Policies like that often give incentive for innovations and trade, which,
leads to growth of the State. Focus on Economics when investigating is crucial. Take North Korea for
example, they have a absolute monarchy. Due to that and the hostility from the North Korean
Government, there is little to no trade with that State. From what we know about North Korea, they
are far less medically advanced. Their literacy rate is also lower than similar States like South Korea.

Autocracy is a government that is influenced by a small group of powerful people. Although that
group can be elected by the public, often the group decides by itself. Autocracy leads to policies that
favor the small, powerful group, which, leads to poverty and low incentive for better work than
needed. Saying that, I do have to say that if the small web of people controlling the government have a
positive goal for their future, then there is little harm done. The main difference between Democracy
and Oligarchy is that in an Oligarchy there is a higher incentive for the political leaders to favor the
policies to the wealthy tip of the

The surrogate should rely on past conversations with the patient and familiarity with the patient s

Judith Butler Religion
A traditional view of homosexuality is that it is perceived as wrong. It is to be avoided, to be othered ,
and is subject to social abjection . In Judith Butler s Gender Trouble, she identifies a need for a new
interpretation of gender against the previous regime of gender hierarchy and compulsory
heterosexuality. In this essay, I will argue that Judith Butler s approach to gender politics is an
improvement on previous attitudes towards homophobia. I will do this through a close contextual
reading of Butler s work, particularly Gender Trouble and her article Imitation and Gender
Insubordination. Butler calls for a more fluid, variable interpretation of gender that would strive for a
new equality where subjects are not restricted to notions of masculinity or femininity . Butler herself
argues that gender is performance and is false, and this act of doing is just a social construct. This then
calls into question what the alternatives can be, and this essay will argue these improvements on
attitudes towards homosexuality requires a deconstruction of attitudes towards gender.
It will argue this through, firstly, establishing that a patriarchal societal regime with a mind towards
procreation has the expectation of conformity to binary gender roles in place. From this, it can be
drawn that sexual preference is inherently linked to gender construction, which needs to be
challenged. And then from these first two premises it guides us to question what the binaries of male

Nevertheless, the food and beverage industry has been relatively less affected when compared to other
industries. This is mainly attributed to the fact that food products continue to be essential to consumers
in spite of the slowdown. A comparison between the S P 500 and the Dow Jones US Food and
Beverage Index in 2008 is testimony to the resilient nature of this industry. In 2008, the S P 500
declined 37.6 percent against a fall of 22.9 percent by the Dow Jones US Food and Beverage Index.

Rappaccini s Daughter Comparative Essay
In the passages Ralph 124C 41+ and Rappaccini`s Daughter , the protagonists have analogous
interests and goals, while the themes match as well. Both stories are of life, death, love, and nature. In
the two passages, the authors use love, specifically to create motives for the protagonists, and also to
use the themes of nature and death. Throughout the passages, Ralph 124c 41+, and Rappaccini`s
Daughter , the authors use love to create themes of death and nature. According to Rappacini`s
Daughter , To Beatrice so radically had her earthly part been wrought upon by Rappacini`s skill as
poison had been life, so the powerful antidote was death. And thus the poor victim of man`s ingenuity
and of thwarted nature, and of the fatality that attends all such efforts of perverted wisdom perished

Rappaccini! And is this the upshot of your experiment? (Hawthorne, 192.) Giovanni, her lover, had
tried to interfere with a combination of nature and man, and ended up with a death at his feet. His
affection was what caused him to try to save her, but it was far too late. In Ralph 124C 41+ , the same
is true. Ralph 124C 41+ , says, It was the last trench in his desperate combat with Nature. It was the
supreme effort. It was the last throw of the dice in the game between Science and Death, with a girl as
the stakes. (Gernsback, 247.) Ralph wanted to save his love from inevitable death, but he was losing
the battle, but because of the risk he took, and his perseverance, his love survived. Both stories involve
a risk of some kind. For example, in Rappaccini`s daughter, Giovanni risked giving her the antidote to
save her, but it failed, and nature claimed her life. On the other hand, Ralph was magnanimous in
saving Alice, his wife, from Death and Nature. The two stories relate in theme, and objective of their
respective protagonists. All in all, the stories are similar and comparable in many ways, but have slight

The Historiography Of Genevieve
Most of what we know of Genevieve comes from her hagiography. Although this is resourceful, it
leaves us with limited historical documentation beyond the miracles and saintly duties she performed.
What we do know is that Genevieve was born during or shortly after the year 420 in Nanterre, which
is near Paris. Her parents, Severus (of Frankish origins) and Gerontia (of Germanic Roman origins)
were both peasants within the community. When Saint Germanus traveled through Nanterre on his
way to Britain, he encountered Genevieve. It is told that Genevieve desired to dedicate her life to
Christianity, but historical documentation notes that Saint Germanus prophesied Genevieve s miracle
abilities and persuaded her to become consecrated. Upon the death of her parents, she moved ... Show

Genevieve prophesied that if people fled the city, they would be ravaged and murdered. Instead, she
encouraged all matrons to pray with her while their husbands fought. This again enraged the Parisian
leaders, but Saint Germanus interceded by offering up consecrated Eucharistic loaves. After the siege
of Paris, Genevieve continued performing miracles and also exorcisms. In 480, Paris was besieged by
the Franks. Genevieve bravely led her matrons with a fleet of boats on the Seine River to supply
trapped citizens with grain and nourishment. Genevieve died around the year 500 at the age of 82.
During her lifetime, she was known as caretaker for the poor and sick. This role is similar to other
saints of her times. After her death, her hagiography praises her miracle abilities since the shrine of her
burial becomes a site for miracles of healings. Genevieve was soon sainted as the protector of Paris
and her name is continually invoked to this day as a provider of healing and guardianship. Author Lisa
Bitel notes how the work of Genevieve helped build Christianity within barbarian Europe by way of
her famed public miracles and continual

LSD (lysergic Acid Dyethilamide)
A Swiss chemist named Dr. Albert Hoffman first produced lysergic acid Diethylmide or best known as
LSD in 1938 (Dye, 1992, p. 2). Hoffman discovered the drug while trying to synthesize a new drug
for the treatment of headaches. He obtained the lysergic acid from the parasitic fungus that grows on
rye plants known as ergot. From the lysergic acid, he synthesized the compound LSD. He used the
compound to test for its pain killing properties on laboratory animals. Being that appeared totally
ineffective, the bottle of LSD was placed on a shelf and remained untouched for five years.
On April 16, 1943, Dr. Hoffman decided to do further research with the LSD compound (Dye, 1992 p.
5). While handling the drug, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first areas of LSD experimentation was in treating alcoholism (Dye, 1992, p.36). After
extensive research, it was concluded that LSD was not effective on treating alcoholism and the
research was discontinued.
LSD was also tested on schizophrenics, drug addicts and criminals (Dye, 1992 p. 38). Research
determined that LSD was ineffective in treating any behavioral problems. It was also concluded that
LSD might transform a normal individual into a person with a very calm to severe personality
problem.
The Central Intelligence Agency and various military agencies also became interested in LSD research
in the late 1950 s (Dye, 1992, p.410.) Their interest in the drug was in the area of mind control. They
saw the possibility of manipulating of manipulating the beliefs of strong willed people. They gave the
drug to a group of army scientists and then attempted to change some of their basic beliefs while
under the influence of the drug. However, one of the scientists became psychotic and committed
suicide by jumping from a hotel window. These agencies continued their research by using drug
addicts and prostitutes to test their mind control theories. After extensive experimentation, it became
apparent that LSD could alter LSD the mind but not control it. The United States government
discontinued this sort of research. Up until today, the Food and Drug Administration have never
approved LSD. This strong hallucinageous drug remains only as research and medical

The highest scoring individual in attractiveness out of all of the celebrities was Gigi Hadid. Gigi
Hadid had an average score of 8.7 and was also the highest scoring celebrity based on proximity to the

A corrective measure for altered photos, would be to use the most natural looking pictures in which

is to used photos of celebrities who have not had plastic surgery. This can be determined by research
or news interviews with the celebrity regarding plastic surgery or facial features they have
aesthetically altered. The focus group, the 50 individuals rating the attractiveness of celebrities,
biasedly rating individuals is difficult to prevent. The individuals rating the celebrities could be
constantly reminded to base rates primarily on attractiveness and by asking a varying group of people
to rate the individuals to get the opinion of a mock society. However, a more accurate solution to this
problem would be to have surveyors rate photos of random individuals that they have more than likely
never had exposure to or contact with. This would ensure that bias does not get in the way of
collecting an accurate average rate of attractiveness. Incorrect measurements

Legend Of The Ghost Dog Analysis
The novel Legend of the Ghost Dog , written by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel, is a thriller and mystery tale
about a young girl named Anita (although is known as Tee throughout the book), on an expedition she
attended to a small cabin located in the Alaska wilderness, in the town of Nome, with her father and
her younger brother Jack, and another young girl that she befriended named Quin. This adventure
starts from not Tee s perspective, but from an older woman named Dodie about her childhood raising
Siberian Huskies with her family, these chapters would consistently reoccur in the novel. The legend
began as just a silly yet spine tingling fable of a dark looming creature known as the Shadow that lived
deep in the Alaskan woods near a creek referred to as Dorothy Creek, where just so happen Tee, her
little brother and her father were residing near, however escalated to a conundrum about the Shadow
that turned out to just be a dog, a jet black Husky with pale blue eyes with a strong broad body,
discovered by the two young girls after taking Tee s beagle on a walk in the snow. While Tee s and
Jack s Mother was in Japan for two weeks during their spring break for law work, the siblings went
with their dad, a writer, who was on the hunt for a story about how the relationship between dogs and
man have become less and less throughout the years because of snowmobiles, there for people were
not requiring dogs to pull sleds from place to place. Thus, Tee s father begins to work with a

Confrontation In America, 1

The Same Deep Water As You: Tim O Brien s Methods To Overcome Loss Throughout the 1980s, Dr.
Terence M. Keane ran experiments on a new idea called exposure therapy. The case studied how
victims of trauma would react to being repeatedly shown places, imagines, and stories that mirrored
theirs. In the study was twenty four veterans of the Vietnam War, and at the end of the study, they no
longer had reactions classified as severe anxiety. Like the veterans in this case study, soldiers in Tim O
Brien s The Things They Carried all experience the death of their friend, Kiowa, which results in
feelings of loss and trauma. In one way or another, all these men try to ... Show more content on

Psychically, he cleanses himself in same water that sourced his loss. He does not keep these feelings to
himself, like he so easily could, but instead he accepts them. The further he gets into the mucky water,
the more his mindset begins to shift for the positive. The guilt lifts and the story he is planning to tell
changes narrative: Near the center of the field, First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross squatted in the muck,
almost entirely submerged. In his head he was revising the letter to Kiowa s father. Impersonal this
time (176). Though the impersonalization of his thoughts seems like a negative quality, it actually
shows improvement. Jimmy is further into the water, and feeling less responsible for the sudden death.
He no longer thinks of his own opinions on Kiowa, just the facts. He died. It was an accident. The
order was from higher up, not even Jimmy. No one can be blamed. No one should be haunted by the
guilt. By being in the moment, and the setting, he is able to clear his mind and come to realizations
about it all. He sinks into the filth, and ironically, becomes clean again. Eventually, he lets himself go
into the water, ignoring everyone and everything in that moment: But First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross
wasn t listening. Eyes closed, he let himself go deeper into the waste, just letting the field take him.

Human Resources And Human Resource Management Fortune 500 Company James Crites American Public University System Professor Vincent Pellettiere Human Resource Management HRMT 415 January 31, 2016 Fortune 500 Company Introduction Over the last 30 plus years, Human Resources Department has evolved from the people who conducted all administration duties like the keeper of the records in the filing cabinets to the backbone of an organization. Human resources management can be defined as that part of management concerned with: All the decisions, strategies, factors, principles, operations, practices, functions, activities and methods related to the management of people as employees in any type of organization (Mahapatro, 2010). The changes to Human Resources management has been beneficial to everyone within an organization. As technology advances so do Human Resources as it takes on different roles and advancements like Human Resources Information Systems. Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is a system used to acquire, store, manipulate, analyze, retrieve, and distribute information related to the company s human resources department. From the Human Resource manager s viewpoint, an HRIS can be used to support decision making, to avoid lawsuits, to help evaluate programs or company policies, and to assist in daily operating procedures in the organization. • 5. Critiquing A Qualitative And Quantitative Study Critiquing of a Qualitative and Quantitative Study The purpose of this paper will be to present the contrasts in the type of information that was gained while reviewing two studies. The studies reviewed were a qualitative study and a quantitative study. The general advantages and disadvantages of the two types of studies will also be presented. Qualitative and quantitative studies both have a place in research, even though the two study designs take a very different approach to research. Lastly, a response will be given in support of the qualitative research being beneficial to the world of science. Contrasts in Qualitative versus Quantitative Research The qualitative study by Madigan, Fleming, McCann, Wright, and MacAuley (2007), explored the general practitioner s (GPs) knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to enteral feeding in the community. A qualitative study is subjective and focuses on describing a problem or a condition from the point of view of those who have experienced the problem or issue (Pilot Beck, 2012). The information in the study was more in depth, less generalizable while using a smaller sample size. The sample size is based on informational needs. When saturation has been achieved, there are no more occurring themes and redundancy is present, the researchers can stop looking for participants. Semi structured one on one interviews were the method of choice when conducting this study. Open ended questions were used during the interview ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rappaccini s Daughter And The Birthmark By Nathaniel... The Interrogated Science Science is one of the most important factors that many science fictions deal with. Some of them describe the positive and useful side of science such as the description of sciences like mathematics, physics, chemistry and many other fields of study. While some of the other science fictions describe the dangerous sides of science that can hurt and even kill human beings. Concerning this idea, Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the American writers of the mid nineteenth century who writes about art and science. This paper will describe the sort of science that need to be interrogated and how is combined by comparing Rappaccini s daughter and The Birthmark by the role of the scientists, Dr. Aylmer and Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aylmer tried to convince his wife with a plan that achieves her happiness by enjoying the perfect beauty. His gambles started when he was isolated with his wife in an apartment provided with a laboratory. It was a symbol of his discoveries of the elemental power of nature. This time, Georgian was one of the elements Aylmer used to discover the physiological truth by his plan of removing his wife s mark. As compared to Dr. Aylmer, Dr. Rappacini is also a skilled physician who makes a different scientific experiment on both human beings and plants. He is a famous doctor by which his name is heard as far as Naples. He makes a medication from strange plants like collecting the strange flowers in his garden. Signor Pietro Baglioni, one of the main characters of Rappaccini s Daughter story, describes Doctor Rappaccini when he says: Doctor Rappaccini has as much science as any member of the faculty with perhaps one single exception in Padua or all Italy. But there are certain grave objections to his professional character (Hawthrone 4). It means that Doctor Rappaccini is as far as he is a good scientist, he has some issues with his character. One of these issues, as Dr. Aylmer has, is his concentration on science more than mankind (4). He deals with his patients as if they are only experiments. He is ready to sacrifice any human life, himself or anyone dearest to him for adding anything possible to his knowledge. Giovani, who is another important character, ... • 10. The Effect of Volcanic Eruptions on Climate The Effect of Volcanic Eruptions on Climate Introduction Recently there has been a lot of research in the field of climate change, and much of it is focused on anthropogenic affects on climate. However, there has also been a great deal of research focused on natural Earth processes and how they affect the climate (Robock 2000). One natural process which significantly impacts climate is volcanic eruptions. Volcanic eruptions affect the climate of the earth in many ways (Zielinski et al 1997). Volcanic ash ejected during eruptions effect climate by reflecting solar rays back into space, and thus cooling the surface of the Earth. Another way volcanoes affect the Earth s climate, is the emission of many different types of volcanic gasses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compared to the total anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gasses, the effect CO2 and H2O vapour have on global warming is relatively low, but spikes in greenhouse gas levels can be seen when major eruptions occur (Cassadevall et al 1983). During the Mt St Helens eruption in 1980, Cassadevall et al (1983) used a gas chromatograph to measure the average daily emissions of CO2 gas which he combined to form the average monthly emissions. He recorded that for six months following the eruption over 5000 metric tons of CO2 were released per day then after six months the emission rates slowly declined. The CO2 and H2O vapour released during eruptions does have a marginal effect on the climate, but by far the most influential gases on Earth s climate are the sulfuric gasses released. Effects of Volcanic SO2 on Climate The most common sulfuric gas released from volcanic eruptions is SO2. The effect that SO2 has on climate is much more complicated than other volcanic gasses such as CO2 and H2O vapour. SO2 also affects Earth s climate much more severely than volcanic ash, CO2 and H2O gasses (Zeilinski et al 1997). The kind of effect SO2 has on the climate is directly related to its concentrations in the atmosphere and thus the amount of volcanic activity during a given time frame (Robock 2000). When SO2 is released from volcanoes, it readily reacts with H2O and OH compounds to form sulfuric acid H2SO4. Sulfuric acid acts like a typical aerosol reflecting solar rays back ... • 11. Minisatellites Essay Minisatellites Along with the development of the PCR, a new type of polymorphism of DNA was discovered in the DNA structure known as hypervariable minisatellites. Large proportion of the eukaryotes genomes is consists of non coding DNA. Usually, this non coding region carries some regulatory elements such as promoters and enhancers but in many cases it also contains repetitive elements, e.g. multiple repeats (Turner et al., 1998). These repetitions include satellite DNA, which comprises thousands of tandem repeats in one site, as well as minisatellite and microsatellite DNA, depending on the number of repeats (Vanhala et al., 1998). These minisatellites are defined regions of DNA with polymorphisms in the number of repeated nucleotide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Typically they may be dinucleotides (AC)n, (AG)n, (AT)n; trinucleotides (TCT)n, (TTG)n; tetranucleotides (TATG)n and so on, where n is the number of repeating units within the microsatellite locus. In addition to occurring at many different loci, they can also be polyallelic (Selkoe and Toonen, 2006). They are repeated (usually 5 20 times) in the genome with a minimum repeat length of 12 base pairs (Goodfellow, 1992). Liu et al., 2001c profound that the best known examples of microsatellites within coding regions are those causing genetic diseases in humans, such as the CAG repeats that encode polyglutamine tract, resulting in mental retardation. Microsatellites tend to mutate with mutation rates of up to 10 2 per generation (Bruford and Wayne, 1993). Variation in the number of tandemly repeated units is mainly due to strand slippage during DNA replication where the repeats allow matching via excision or addition of repeats (Schlotterer and Tautz, 1992). As slippage in replication is more likely than point mutations, microsatellite loci tend to be hypervariable. Microsatellite assays show extensive inter individual length polymorphisms during PCR analysis of unique loci using discriminatory primers sets. Microsatellites are inherited in a Mendelian fashion as codominant markers (Schlotterer, 2004). This is strength of microsatellite markers in addition to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Summary Of The Film Mr And Mrs. Iyer The world we live in is a extremely diverse place, it s more diverse than we think. Diversity in India or any country does not mean unity. In India there is a lot of tension and animosity between certain religious and ethnic groups, which is still ongoing today and the outside world may not be aware of it, but in the film Mr. and Mrs. Iyer by Aparna Sen the unsettled issues are addressed. The Process of the Advancement of the Human Soul Towards its Perfection in Ramayana and the Mahabharata The whole of the Ramayana is an Epic of humanity. Humanity does not mean mankind but that which particularly human nature. It is in this sense, Sri Rama is oftentimes called the paragon of humanity, an example of the perfection of human nature. This perfection is not inclusive of the foibles of man in his lower endowments. There, for the first time, is a proclamation divinity of Rama, where Mandodari in deep sorrow over the death of Ravana, her husband, exclaims that it is Narayana that has come as Nara which in fact is unknown to Ravana and due to his ignorance, he has mistaken Rama for a human being. The contradiction that Valmiki brings out is that while he puts these words in the mouth of Mandodari, he puts a different type of statement in the mouth of Rama himself. When the whole theme is over, the drama has been played, Brahma comes and speaks to Rama, Thou art Lord Narayana, Thy play in this world is over, and we seek Thy entry back into Vaikuntha. And Rama says in reply: What are you speaking? I do not know anything. Am I Narayana! I think I am only a man Atmanam Manusham Manye. Whatever you may think or speak about me, I think I am a man, I am a human being. These are the words of Rama himself. While Rama himself is thinking that he is only a man, Brahma speaks of Him as Narayana and wants Him to go back to His Abode, as His drama in this world is over. These interesting dramatic contradictions are brought into play by the genius of Valmiki, deliberately to fulfill the purpose of the Epic. Otherwise, there would be no meaning in the play itself. It was not at all given to Rama to proclaim himself as Narayana. That was not the purpose of the Avatara at all. I d always liked to travel but not as much anymore. September 16, 2007 was the most chaotic day of my life. I was 12 years old when we left Iran. Know let me tell you the events leading you to that day. My parents decide that we should move to the United State so that way we would be closer to the rest of our family. Okay, now to the day before chaos began. Like any other day I woke up and did what most people do in the morning; get dressed and eat. Two of my dad s friends had come over to help my dad take our luggage to the airport a day before so we didn t have too much things with us. I remember we were all sitting in the living room and my younger sister, 7 at the time that just gotten up and walked into the living room with her pajamas on. She had gotten so scared when she say that we that company over. Her face was so red from embarrassment I died laughing, I m a good sister, won t you say. • 15. Three Religious Paintings In this project I will compare the setting of three religious paintings. One set involves the interior of fifteenth century architect, another located in a natural landscape, and one with a heavenly backdrop. This expository paper will reveal how these different locations affect a viewer s spiritual experience, and decipher whether or not these environments are generic, symbolic, or specific. The artwork titled Painting of Ghent Altarpiece in Chapel, located in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, was created by Jan van Eyck (Davies et al. 482). The scale and setting of this painting is unmistakably impressive. The purpose of the altarpiece is to clarify the ceremony performed before it (482). Jan work is big in scale and thorough with detail and color that glows (482). This environment is a generic place, although it is a holy place, it is also very common as chapels can be found in virtually every church. The fifteenth century landscape calendar page Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry was created by the Limbourg Brothers in France (Davies et al. 474). In this panel, the month of July is illustrated, as is the passage of time in many ways (474). The dome shape at the top of the seasonal training marks the days of the week numerally along with the astrological signs for the month (474). Below the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 16. The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating that he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 1945 Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held philosophy of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their national obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national loyalty leads to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead preferring to focus on distant and external evils. Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse by those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to the very security that such systems ought to safeguard. As such, blowing the whistle on such activities can be an effective mechanism of exposing the ills that characterize intelligence systems. Furthermore, Scheurman (2014) argues that a requirement for whistleblower identity disclosure as proposed in Sagar s framework enhances their opportunity to fulfill their obligations to justify their actions. They further state that whistleblower identity disclosure demonstrates civic mindedness. In addition, the disclosure of the whistle blower s identity helps to prevent ... • 17. Ryanair s Pricing Strategy Of Ryan Air Ryanair positioned itself as a low cost airline, which delivered services equivalent to that of British Airways and Aer Lingus. In terms of service quality, they positioned themselves in the same category as the aforementioned airlines, but at the same time, charging a relatively low price when compared to British Airways and Aer Lingus. Their strategy was to deliver first rate/ good quality customer services and offer meals and amenities comparable to that of British Airways and Aer Lingus. Given that Ryanair is a new airline, chances of survival will be slim if they engage in a price war. If all is in favor of Ryanair, they will be able to acquire a sizeable portion of its competitor s market share for that route, as well as acquire new customers from other transport options such as trains and ferries, by offering a faster commute. To compare the price with competitors and consider this opportunity for Ryanair s service between Dublin and London, Ryanair should estimate the cost and the possibility of seats sold by using British Airways revenue and cost in exhibit 4 of the case study. From the exhibit 4, Ryanair can calculate the possibility of seats sold by finding the ratio of customers who do not book the seat of British Airways in advance and compare to its own seats available annually. The British Airways average revenue per passenger equals to I£166.5. Also, British Airways is selling its ticket at the price of I£208, and I£99 for early advance booking. Therefore, only around 38.07% of British Airways customers bought the seat in advance, while the rest, 61.93%, paid for full amount of I£208. That means the round trip passengers around 309,633 persons out of a half million paid at the price of I£208. On the other hand, Ryanair would run only four ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now in the Modern Age, Democracy is favored. With more globalization now than there ever was, the normal citizens of the State have more economic influence. Democracy is the worst form of government on earth except for all the rest (Winston Churchill) Like Churchill, I also think that Democracy is the prefered type of government for the world we live in today because it leads to more economic growth. Democracy is a type of government where the population of the State votes for the policies. Democratic Government can be a pure Democracy, Republic or any mix of those two. Typically in a Democracy the policies favor the public, like tax proportional to your income. Policies like that often give incentive for innovations and trade, which, leads to growth of the State. Focus on Economics when investigating is crucial. Take North Korea for example, they have a absolute monarchy. Due to that and the hostility from the North Korean Government, there is little to no trade with that State. From what we know about North Korea, they are far less medically advanced. Saying that, I do have to say that if the small web of people controlling the government have a positive goal for their future, then there is little harm done. • 20. Judith Butler Religion A traditional view of homosexuality is that it is perceived as wrong. It is to be avoided, to be othered , and is subject to social abjection . In Judith Butler s Gender Trouble, she identifies a need for a new interpretation of gender against the previous regime of gender hierarchy and compulsory heterosexuality. In this essay, I will argue that Judith Butler s approach to gender politics is an improvement on previous attitudes towards homophobia. I will do this through a close contextual reading of Butler s work, particularly Gender Trouble and her article Imitation and Gender Insubordination. Butler calls for a more fluid, variable interpretation of gender that would strive for a new equality where subjects are not restricted to notions of masculinity or femininity . Butler herself argues that gender is performance and is false, and this act of doing is just a social construct. This then calls into question what the alternatives can be, and this essay will argue these improvements on attitudes towards homosexuality requires a deconstruction of attitudes towards gender. It will argue this through, firstly, establishing that a patriarchal societal regime with a mind towards procreation has the expectation of conformity to binary gender roles in place. From this, it can be drawn that sexual preference is inherently linked to gender construction, which needs to be challenged. And then from these first two premises it guides us to question what the binaries of male or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although this is resourceful, it leaves us with limited historical documentation beyond the miracles and saintly duties she performed. What we do know is that Genevieve was born during or shortly after the year 420 in Nanterre, which is near Paris. Her parents, Severus (of Frankish origins) and Gerontia (of Germanic Roman origins) were both peasants within the community. When Saint Germanus traveled through Nanterre on his way to Britain, he encountered Genevieve.
