6. 7 day timetable
• The number of periods in the 35 period models gives a
better balance of subject occurrences throughout the cycle.
• Disrupted days, CPD, public holidays, sports days, etc., will
become a day zero and have no effect on the cycle.
• After school activities will continue on the same weekly
schedule as we have presently.
• One lesson per cycle is scheduled for assembly and other
whole school gatherings, such as House meetings. This
time will not be used for Learning for Life (PHSE) or tutoring
as it currently is.
7. 7 day timetable
• Allows for the scheduling of subjects together for
collaboration/enquiry work in Yr. 7, 8 and 9.
• Allows for timetabling of student support mechanisms
more effectively e.g. Targeted Support ESL classes more
efficiently.
• Spreads class occurrences evenly throughout cycle.
• Creates a timetable that will be stable and adaptable as we
grow and look to develop more courses in the future.
9. Curriculum allocations
There are no statutory requirements for time allocated to subjects in Key Stage 3 and
Key Stage 4. Recommendations from the UK Government indicate the following:

12. Enquiry and skills development
Strategic use of timetable blocking to allow for cross curricular learning
opportunities.
Humanities and English (Year 8)
Mathematics and ICT (Year 9)
Drama and Music (Year 7)
Back to back blocking also allows for the school’s new enquiry method to
be strategically piloted next year in 3 year groups.
This will run parallel with the consolidation of Discovery Time (PBL) in
years 7,8 and 9.
13. Additional Notes
Three areas in the Discovery Centre will be turned into
additional secondary classrooms and a
primary/secondary staff work area.
Three form entry will be extended into year seven next
year. We anticipate seventy students in August.
All students will take Chinese and one other language
from year seven onwards.
