Anorexia Nervos A Psychological And Physical Causes And...
Every time you view your reflection in a mirror, the sight of your body horrifies you. You have
become so brainwashed to believe that your body is unacceptable, that you have formed an
obsession with being smaller. This is how people with eating disorders feel. According to the
University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) (2016), about one fifth of people with anorexia
are related to at least one person with the disorder. Anorexia nervosais an eating disorder with
mainly adolescent victims. Different studies have been able to identify some of the
psychological and physical causes and consequences of anorexia. Many people dismiss anorexia
nervosa as a short lived adolescent disorder, but most do not realize the disease s long lasting
implications on health and how crucial it is to seek treatment. The UMMC (2016) defines
anorexia nervosa as, an emotional disorder that focuses on food, but many researchers believe it
is an attempt to deal with perfectionism and a desire to gain control by strictly regulating food and
weight . The McGill Journal of Medicine (2007) states that some of the causes of anorexia are
refusal to maintain adequate body weightand intense fear of gaining weight. Other causes of
anorexia have been identified as severe trauma, stress, abnormal serotonin levels, an environment
that promotes thin body image, want for perfectionism, and family history of eating disorders
(UMMC, 2016). It is no surprise that the body image that society portrays as being

Nozick s The Examined Life
Harsimran Natt
Philosophy 1 Final
Prompt #1
Value and Meaning Nozick had clear definitions of value and meaning in The Examined Life that
can be applied to anyone s life. According to Nozick, meaning involves a connection to something
beyond internal boundaries , or values. He also says values possess an internal unified coherence,
which are split into two categories: instrumental and intrinsic. According to his definition, there is
only certain aspects of life that have meaning and value and there could be changes made to life to
make it have more value and meaning. Nozick s definition leads us to see that meaning depends on
value. There are two types of value, as stated before. The first type is instrumental value, which is
when something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have already connected my family, religion, and education to happiness. The more I connect to
intrinsically valuable things, the more meaning my life will have. Most people connect the meaning
of life to things such as family and friends which add instrumental and intrinsic values to a
person s life. The same applies for me, my life has meaning because I relate it to things that I
value. The more I connect with valuable things, the more meaning my life will have. In the
future, my career will add more value to my life. I will be doing something that I love, and that
gives me happiness, for most of my day. It will also give me financial stability in the future, which
will be important. My career and financial stability will allow me to take care of the people that I
love (such as for example, taking care of health of my parents as they get older). As I will get older,
I will be able to give back to my parents, which will give me the greatest happiness in the world.
The happier my family and people I care about are, the more valuable and meaningful my life will

Activism In The Hunger Games
Today is Martin Luther King Day. Martin Luther King Junior was highly known for his activism
during the Civil Rights Movement. In his final Mountaintop speech, he proclaimed, The nation
is sick. Trouble is in the land; confusion all around. That s a strange statement. But I know,
somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. And I see God working ... in a
way that men, in some strange way, are responding. Something is happening in our world. The
masses of people are rising up. (1) Martin Luther King Junior was a symbol of hope for equality for
the oppressed, peace for the nation, and most of all, love, for all people. This is a similar theme
found in Mockingjay. As The Hunger Games Trilogy comes to a close, Katniss Everdeen has

She volunteered to take her sister s occupation as a tribute for the 74th Hunger Games not

various tiers of activism. Her climatic activism occurred in Mockingjay. Everything she went
through led her to a place where she felt no option but to fight for equality, peace and love for her
people. She battled for complete equality for all 13 districts of Panem, sacrificed herself as a
whole for others safety, and in the resolution, she gave hope for the freedom to love. As the
Hunger Games trilogy draws to close, Katniss finally embraces the tender future ahead. She
might have felt like Martin Luther King Junior when he said, Darkness cannot drive out
darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. If you can t fly

A Visit At The Georgia Dome
Everyone expects their sixteenth birthday to be this grand wonderful event with friends, family, and
maybe some cake, but what most don t expect is to make their eighteenth just as important. Yes,
turning eighteen is just as significant as turning sixteen because it symbolizes your transformation
from a teenager to an adult, but that is why we celebrate turning sixteen as heavily as we do. My
eighteenth birthdaytruly was a grand event, one where even in my wildest imaginations I never
pictured doing the things I did, it felt like something out of a Hollywood movie script. The
celebration started with a concert at the Georgia Dome, on October 1st, leading all the way to its
grand finale, a trip to New York City, on October 10th. It was two solid weeks of surprise after
surprise with each surprise being bigger and better than the last, or at least in my opinion anyway.
October 1st was seeing One Direction, my favorite band, live, the 2nd was surprise tickets to
Cirque Du Soleil, the 3rd was a surprise party with friends and family, the 10th through the 12th
was a trip to New York City, and lastly and later on in the day of the 12th was seeing Disney s
Frozen on ice. I don t think I have ever been happier than when attending all five of these events.
Seven o clock pm, Wednesday October 1st, 2014, was the exact time my skipped a beat; it was the
exact time the concert of my dreams started. One Direction, consisting of Niall Horan, Liam Payne,

Essay on Psychological Breakdown in Strindberg s The Father
Psychological Breakdown in Strindberg s The Father
*Works Cited Not Included
In Strindberg s The Father, we witness a string of actions that brings a sane and happy man to the
point of utter lunacy in the span of twenty four hours. While I think the play as a whole is less
convincing in terms of its naturalism (perhaps very much due to the way it immediately dates
itself), it does very fluidly connect the actions bringing about this psychological breakdown. To
begin, the Captain lives in a house surrounded by women, of whom as a race he is rather
untrusting. The Captain s views on parental responsibility and paternity are made clear in the first
three scenes of Act One. This is intelligent playwrighting in my opinion, even though I ... Show

Because she has previously held up his mail at the post office, she has the grounds to say what
she does, and while she is misleading the doctor, she has left herself with an excuse as well (the
question of her husband s sanity). The doctor s questioning of the captain is spurred by Laura s
deceit, and he finds the Captain obstinate, stubborn, and a bit compulsive. He only focuses on
these compulsions as mental disturbances because Laura s hints led him to notice them more
closely. The next major action in the breakdown of the Captain is Laura s first hint of the
possibility that he may not be Bertha s father. This then leads him to leave the house (somewhat
out of the blue to all but Laura) to research parentage. The next major action is the dual deceit of
the Captain, as Laura now has an ally in the Doctor the doctor remains to supposedly look after the
Mother in Law. The second act, as the first, ends in an argument between Laura and the Captain, as
we see her slowly gaining the upper hand. At this point, the Captain is left unsure of his fatherhood,
questioning it on the basis that no man can truly know if he is the father. He still retains his wits at
this point, his scientific reasoning, but is losing control of his emotions. This ends in his final
throwing of the lamp, shattering it on the wall. As we enter Act Three, the Captain has been

Historical Background Of Special Education Essay
In 2011 according to the National Center for Education Statistics 13 percent of the total number
of enrollment in the public school were receiving federally supported special education
programs . (National Center for Education Statistics) The goal of special education is for all
students with or without a disability to be educated in the least restrictive environment. It is the
common belief that special needs students should be placed in the general education classroom
with their non disabled peers a term called inclusion. Inclusion hasn t come easy! There has been
several court cases fought that have provided special needs students access to a free appropriate
education in the least restrictive environment. Historical Background of Inclusion There have
been several court cases that have worked toward Inclusion. District cases gained momentum
getting the attention of the higher courts to ultimately pave the way nationwide. The first right to
education lawsuit was Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children versus the
commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1971). PARC was an organization composed of mother s
advocating for their children ages 6 21. In Pennsylvania children were not able to enroll into
school if they had not reached a mental age of 5 by their chronological age of 8. The district court
ordered that all mental retarded children were to be given a free education. It was also ordered to
begin to evaluate the most appropriate placement for all children.

Aboriginal Rights in Canada
There has been a great deal of contention over Aboriginal Rights in Canada. Much of this conflict
can be said to stem from the differences in both the philosophy and cultural systems of Aboriginal
and non aboriginal people, with much of it originating from the time of the original European
settlement of Canada(UBC Law, 2009). The focus of this conflict has been primarily on the rights
to land, sea and resources, as well as how the law is to apply to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada
(UBC Law, 2009).
Contention on law began early into the colonization period. Originally the Royal Proclamation of
1763, set by the British Crown, was in place to protect the land rights of Canadian Aboriginals
(UBC Law, 2009). The Royal Proclamation recognized Aboriginal title, and sought to establish
relations with the Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). Ultimately, the proclamation meant that there was
Crown recognition of land ownership, and that Aboriginal authority would continue under North
Americas new British reign (UBC Law, 2009). In order to protect these land rights, a provision
was made. The provision states that only the British Crown had the ability to acquire land in
Canada from the Aboriginal community, and could only do so by treaty (UBC Law, 2009). Thus,
the original Royal Proclamation of 1763 served to protect Aboriginal land rights under the British
Sovereignty.
However, despite British attempts to cement Aboriginal rights, the colonial governments did not
necessarily cooperate. In

Obesity Is Common All Over The United States Society Today
There are a variety of public issues in the United States society today. Many people are facing
some type of illness or disease, one we do not consider a major problem until just recently.
Obesity is a disease/condition that many people in America are suffering from. Really obesity
can be defined in many different ways; Mayo Clinic defines obesity as a complex disorder
involving an excessive amount of body fat (Obesity, 2015). When a person is diagnosed having
this disease/condition it can cause many health problems such as, diabetes, heart trouble, high and
low blood pressure. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than
one third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S adults are obese. ( Adult Obesity Facts, 2015).... Show

Adding, many factors have been shown that Obesity should be taken more seriously then what
many people consider. Factors of a person becoming obese can be all of the following,
community and environment, drugs, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, lack of sleep, bad habits
(smoking and drinking), genetics, social and economic issues, and one of the most important is
they way a person s family lives. Obesity can happen so quickly in young children if their family
does not do anything to make sure their children are getting enough exercise and good nutrition.
First, community and the environment play a role in exercise. A way a person can help prevent
becoming overweight, if living on a farm or in a neighborhood. Gather friends, family, or even
pets and take them for a walk, ride a bike, run, and some if close enough may walk to work. It is
very important to make sure environments are created to make it simpler and easier to participate
in physical exercise and maintaining a healthy diet. Next, drugs can have impact on your body
weight. Many may not realize how much drugs can have an effect on our bodies and health in
general. The pharmacist that I work for told me that most of your antidepressants (Wellbutrin) or
steroids could cause us to gain weight. Along with Antihistamines (Zyrtec), Antihypertensive (blood

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Personality, Cognitive...
Sigmund Freud; 1856 1939, an Austrian doctor was one of the pioneers in studying the nature
of personality, cognitive development, and infancy, and also remarked how important the first
years of the individual s life are for future development of the mentioned characteristics (Coon
Mitterer, 2012). According to John W. Satrock behavior; as part of the psychoanalitic theories, is
merely a surface characteristic and a true and deep understanding of development is require to
analize the symbolic meaning of behavior and the deep inner workings of the mind, and as an
example, how early experiences with parents extensively shape development in diferent areas
(Santrock, 2011). Doctor Freud believed that all thoughts, emotions, and actions, are determined.
In other words, nothing is an accident: If we probe deeply enough we will find the causes of
every thought or action. He also believed that unconscious processes (not external stimuli) were
responsible. In addition, Freud theorized that the core of personality is formed before age 6 and
a series of psychosexual stages, and believed that erotic urges in childhood have lasting effects on
development (Coon Mitterer, 2012) Then, Freud formed five psychosexual stages; the oral, anal,
latency, and genital. At each stage a different part of the body becomes a child s primary
erogenous zone, and each area serves a main source of pleasure, frustration, and self expression. He
assumed that many adult personality traits might be

What If I Just Lost Weight Essay
What if I just lost some weight... says most girls once in their life. Woman are constantly putting
their bodies through awful diets and harsh workouts, just to become perfect in someone else eyes.
Woman and young girls see figures of other women with a double zero pants size and ask why
can t I look like that? Today society puts too much pressure on young women to have the perfect
body. What society needs to say is all women are beautiful, there is no such thing as the perfect
body. Today, women are putting down other womanfor being a size fourteen. The men in our
society are not helping either, by making a woman feel her body is not excepted, by saying they
have a preference of a woman. Images like this get stuck in the average Americans mind and
they start to paint a picture of perfection. Women tend to be judged on the basis of what they
look like, not who they are, and the more positive the evaluation, the more likely a woman is to
be valued by others... (Strelan, P., Hargreaves, D. May 2005). America has this problem today
because of the media, the objectification of woman, and how women carry themselves. Within the
Media The media takes a big part in how people in society get their image of perfect. From music
videos, TV, beauty pageants, magazines, and social media all contribute to building the image of a

Paint Pigment Essay
The History of Paint Pigments
Chem 111 404
April 24, 2013
Introduction:
This report expresses five different pigments that were formed during chemical reactions. Three out
of the total five reactions went through a metathesis, or double replacment reaction. A metathesis
reaction can be defined as a chemical reaction in which an element or radical in one compound
exchanges places with another element or radical in another compound. (Webster). The other two
pigments underwent a neutralization reaction, which is A reaction between an acid and a base that
yields a salt and water. (Webster). In both types of reaction two substances are being combined to

The first half was filtered and stored for the completion of the experiment, while the other half was
stored for a week, unfiltered. The next week the unfiltered solution in beaker was filtered and set
aside for another week.
The fifth, and final pigment, was Prussian blue. One milliliter of 0.5 M iron (III) chloride was
measured into a test tube. Then, 0.25 M solution of potassium ferrocyanide was mixed in. They
were then filtered, and left to dry. The next week there were four paint binding options: egg
tempura, casein, acrylic, and water color or gum arabic. This experiment used watercolor. The first
step was to grind the pigment with water to make a stiff paste. Then, gum Arabic was added in a
1:1 ratio.
Results:
The data produced from the experiment demonstrates that when two solutions are mixed, they
undergo a reaction that produces a pigmented or colored precipitate and also a liquid. The
precipitate produced then can be fashioned into paint. In the first pigment, chrome yellow was
produced. The yellow sodium chromate combined with the clear zinc sulfate created an orange
liquid and a yellow precipitate. This is a metathesis reaction that causes the solution to be
neutralized. The addition of sodium hydroxide causes the solution to become more basic. After the
solution was filtered it created a yellow solid, and when the precipitate was crushed up and gum
Arabic was it created a yellow

What Is The Situationist Perspective In Lord Of The Flies
Dr. Zimbardo uses a situationist perspective on the ways through which anti social behavior is
understood, treated and prevented. This view contrasts with the traditional dispositional
perspective, which locates evil within individual predispositions and looks at a person s internal
factors and traits. The situationist perspective is different in that, unlike the dispositional
perspective, it often uses experimental and laboratory research to demonstrate vital phenomena,
whereas other perspectives may only use archival or correlational data to suggest such answers.
The main example that illustrates through experimental research and social analysis is the ease by
which ordinary, good people are induced into behaving in evil ways.... Show more content on

We live in a world cloaked with evil; it is ironic how humans are capable of committing the most
heroic, selfless acts and also the most vile and horrific ones.
Lord of the Flies and the Psychology of Deindividuation
This section is mainly about The Lord of the Flies by William Golding and how it illustrates that
one s external physical appearance can lead to a tremendous change in one s mental state. It is
really interesting how in the book, once the boys get over the initial moral dilemma of whether to
kill a pig and live or whether to let the pig live and die themselves, they have no problem with
killing pigs. With every killing, the death of the pig seems to become more brutal and
demoralizing. At one point, they even impale the pig with a stick in the anus, proclaiming their
deed in horrific valor. This goes back to sexual aggression because it can be viewed as the raping
and killing of a female pig. I can justify the gradual ease of killing pigs with an example. My
friend, who goes hunting often, told me about how he can manage to kill a dear without feeling
bad inside. He said that the actual killing is only hard the first time and that the other times, it is
relatively easy because one simply stops thinking about it. One thinks about the deer as the prey, not
as an innocent animal minding its own business. As for the experiment with the deindividuated and
individuated women, it seems to make a lot of sense

The Forever Moving Land Essay
The Forever Moving Land nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The land below us is always in motion.
Plate tectonics studies these restless effects to give us a better understanding of the Earth and its
past. New molten rocks are poured out in the form of magma from the mid ocean ridges. The rock
is recycled and re entered back into the earth in deep ocean trenches through convection current.
The convection current in the mantle drives plates around either against or away from each other.
These collisions give rise to earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains, and continental drift. The crashing
and spreading of the plates forms the landscape of the Earth as we see it today. The positions of the
land masses today is a result of continental drift.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cooled magma will, in time, sink back down into the Earth in the deep ocean trenches. The
mantle sinking down produces subduction zones or Benioff zones. The deepest part of the
ocean resides in these areas. There are three types of boundaries where plates meet: divergent
boundaries the upwelling of magma; convergent boundaries where the plates collide producing
mountains, volcanoes, and earthquakes; and transform boundaries lateral movement. Transform
plates are caused by fracture zones. When a rift opens from the upwelling of magma it causes a

Water Scarcity in Michigan Essay example
Nestle in Michigan is a video clip on YouTube about the Nestle corporations bottled water plants
with a primary focus being on the plant located in Stanwood, Michigan (Menzies, 2010). Nestle
has a 99 year lease on property that only cost them $63,000, they received $10 million in tax
abatements , and they are pumping water at a rate of 218 gallons per minute (down from the
original 450 gallons per minute) (Menzies, 2010). In other words, Nestle is pumping dangerously
large amounts of water that is free to them as propertyowners, selling it for a profit, and not being
subjected to the same taxas other land owners. House Bill 6443 was introduced in 2010 to keep

It is now an issue that will have them both wasting time and money on investigations, lawyers,
and other court fees while in and out of court. Once one case is won a precedent is set that opens
the door for all kinds of neighbor vs. neighbor and who is entitled to the water. Environmental
Attorney Jim Olson said, Water is a transient gift on earth for life (Menzies, 2010). To me this
means water was provided to us by God as a means of survival and ongoing life. Water belongs to
no one person yet all of us at the same time. A better solution than House Bill 6443 would be a
bill that instead imposes a high tax on the withdrawal of water for commercial use. Honestly I
can t believe there is no such law. Government should play a larger role in the preservation of our
natural resources; however it is ultimately up to us as individuals to be conscious consumers.
Without consumers there are no markets. I found this video to be quite disturbing. I have always
felt bottled water was a waste but never realized to what extent. This video is another affirmation
of what a waste of money and gross, unnecessary, waste of natural resource bottled water is.
Before anyone ever sold bottled water, the market for it did not exist; there was no demand for
bottled water. People carried it with them, found an alternate source, or went without. I too have

Muscle Anaabolism
1 Introduction
Exercise has been repeatedly shown to have a strong relationship with intra muscular protein
metabolism. Muscular hypertrophy is only possible when net anabolism occurs (Tipton et al.,
2004). As a result, many athletes turn to supplementation to ensure there is positive protein balance
in their diet to increase the opportunity for hypertrophy and performance optimisation. Habitually
athletic people have been shown to have a higher protein requirements (Campbell et al.,
2007),however the International Society of Sports Nutrition acknowledges that this higher
requirement is possible to achieve through a balanced diet , it goes on to state that protein
supplementation is also an practical way to ensure adequate protein intake (Campbell ... Show more

Increasing Cross Functional Planning For Success
Increasing Cross Functional Planning for Success
The education industry is ripe for disruption. Private equity funding is surging into the education
market (Bryant Sarakatsannis, 2015). In order for a large multinational education company to both
disrupt itself, and fend off disruptive technologies within the education market, the company must
increase the leadership teams abilities to collaboratively plan and adjust to market changes. The
company has used agile development practices for many years, and began strategic planning in an
agile fashion for the technology divisions. To be able to respond to disruptive market forces, the
company should embrace strategic agile planning across their traditional publishing arm as it
merges with technology development (Parker, 2012). This proposal for senior leadership includes
an overview of the organization with a discussion on current challenges in cross functional strategic
planning, and operational execution, given the current business and internal climate, an overview
of four leadership theories which provide specific perspectives in helping senior leadership in
solving cross functional planning challenges, with a recommended action plan aligned with the
organization mission, vision, ethics and globally diverse workforce.

developed and developing world. Global demographic shifts point to increased K 20 aged people in

From a social standpoint, personal achievements can provide an individual with some noticeable

Ancient Egyptian Religion and Worldview
1)Ancient Egyptian religion and worldview was simultaneously both extraordinarily simplistic and
extremely complicated.
The king s essential unique title, the Horus name, broadcasted that he was a part of the god
Horus, a sky god who was portrayed as a half man half falcon. Different aliases were added to this
one, remarkably Son of Re (the sun god) and Perfect God, both presented in the fourth
administration (c. 2575 2465 bce), when the incredible pyramids were developed. The name Son of
Re put the ruler in a nearby, however, impoverished connection with the heading figure in the
pantheon. This showed that the ruler had the status of a minor divinity, for which he was
consummated through promotion to his office; it confined the degree of his godlikeness and
divided him from full divinity.
In his halfway position between mankind and the divine beings, the king could accept the most
excessive praise, and in a few ways, was more unmistakable than any single god. In death he tried
to gain admittance to the afterlife, however couldn t get away from the human setting. Despite the
fact that illustrious funerary icons contrasted in sort from different tombs and were unfathomably
larger, they were excessively looted and vandalized, and few regal funeral home religions were
dependable. Especially after the old Kingdom, a few rulers, mainly Amenhotep III (1390 53 bce),
Ramses II (1279 13 bce), and a few of the Ptolemies, looked for idolization throughout their

Most child laborers worked in the fields. Some fought; and others became slaves. In the fictional

Athletes with abnormal AV conduction characterized by an HV interval 90 ms or a His Purkinje

more common in athletes than in the general population of a similar age distribution, with the
possible exception of atrial fibrillation (AF). Treatment of these SVTs with catheter ablation is
likely to achieve a permanent cure and, in general, is preferable to lifelong therapy with
pharmacological agents. Atrial Fibrillation: Athletes with AF should undergo a work up that
includes thyroid function tests, queries for drug use, ECG, and echocardiogram. Athletes with low
risk AF that is well tolerated and self terminating may participate in all competitive sports without
therapy. In athletes with AF, when antithrombotic therapy, other than aspirin, is indicated, it is
reasonable to consider the bleeding risk in the context of the specific sport before clearance.
Catheter ablation for AF could obviate the need for rate control or antiarrhythmic drugs and should
be considered. Syncope: Athletes with exercise induced syncope should be restricted from all

Essay on Courtroom Procedures and the Role of the Prosecution
During a trial, there are many rules, procedures, and codes of conduct that must be observed.
These are in place to allow a trial to proceed more efficiently and fairly for both the defense and
prosecution. According to one author, Police, prosecutors, and criminal court Judges see too much
crime, so they tend to see crime everywhere. We need rules to control their conduct, Judges to
carefully apply those rules, and other Judges to review those decisions (law article.net). Courtroom
procedures are important because, without them, defendants and prosecution alike could be treated
unfairly. These procedures give a standard format for trials that must be followed to ensure that all

Courtroom procedures begin before the day of the trial arrives. In a criminal case, the pre trial
proceedings vary based on the severity of the crime. With a simple misdemeanor case, which
could only result in minor jail time or a fine, the pre trial procedures are short and simple.
Usually, the defendant is called to a pre trial hearing where they are read the charges pressed
against them and are asked to give either their plea of guilty and be given a sentencing date, not
guilty and be given a trial date and bail amount, or to plead no contest (American Bar
Association). However, in a felony case that could lead to a serious incarceration sentence, the
procedure becomes more complex. There is a first hearing that is similar to that of a
misdemeanor, except that a plea is not given. This is done at the second preliminary hearing to
determine if there is actually enough evidence to charge the defendant with a crime. If there isn t
enough, the charges are dropped, but if there is, the case moves along in the process (American Bar
Association). Also prior to the trial, a jury of 6 to 12 people must be selected. Each jury member
must go through a screening process to ensure that they have no connection to the trial, or any
preconceived opinion of it that could keep them from being impartial to either side. A juror can be
removed if they have any connection to the trial, and the defense

Vladimir Lenin once said that Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it

the French colony of Saint Domingue before the Haitian Revolution and in the metaphorical sense
in Russia before Lenin and his followers, the Bolsheviks took power. Saint Domingue s class

Persuasive Essay On High School Games
It is obvious that this game was out of control before this fight broke out. According to Murphy,
(2013) the two teams combined for a total of 20 penalties. I am not sure how many of these were
personal fouls or unsportsmanlike penalties but based on the postgame fight it seems that the
coaches and referees struggled to maintain control of the game.
The two teams remained separate after the game instead of shaking hands. It is custom in high
school football, and football at all levels, to shake the hand of your opponent. In the video, it is
obvious that the teams were told not to shake hands. Instead, the white team stands on the logo in
the middle of the field. The black team is heading toward the locker room when the fight breaks out.
Finally, the presence of police on the field suggests that tensions were high by the end of the
game. There are often police at high school football games but there were at least six officers on
the field. Maybe high school games have a higher police presence than I am used to in Illinois, but
the number of uniformed officers on the field suggests that this wasn t the first time that a football
game between these two teams escalated beyond normal physical football.
An athletic director would have a lot to sort out after an altercation like this. Besides the two
coaches fighting, there are many situations that need to be addressed in the video. First, a player

The Evolution Of Public Relations
Introduction:
Public relations has always be present throughout history however over the years, it had different
names. Public relations is also known as integrated communication, corporate communication and

Culture Is Defined As The Beliefs, Customs, And Arts
Merriam Webster states culture is defined: as the beliefs, customs, and arts, of a particular
society, group, place, or time. People think of culture as they think of a specific person(s) or a

we have to understand is that culture is taught, or learned over time. Culture is not something
you were born with or receive from your parents. People learn the different cultures through life

important cultural characteristics in order to learn different culture. Everywhere in the world is
different and people come from all different parts of the world because culture is shared. We

The patient physician relationship is either contractual (where the physician mutually agrees to

Lawrence uses many insightful allusions, allowing readers to make connections and better

mythology, and religion, Lawrence makes his meaning more clear, as readers may be familiar
with the cultural aspects he refers to. The connections the readers make allow Lawrence to
better persuade them that Hester is unworthy of the praise she receives. First, he refers to James
Fenimore Cooper s The Deerslayer, a book about a frontiersman whom Lawrence compares
Hester s lover, Dimmesdale, to. He writes, Deerslayer refused to be seduced by Judith Hutter. At

The Five Differences Between Physical And Human Geography
Physical Geography and Human Geography
Physical geography looks at the ordinary course of the Earth, such as weather and plate tectonics.
Human geography looks at the impact and behavior of people and how they relate to the physical
world.
Location
Location pinpoints different positions, people, and places on the earth surface. It is defined for
geography using two terms, absolute and relative.
Absolute location vs relative location
Absolute location answers the question where is it (The Five Themes of Geography pdf). It s the
place on earth which can be located using longitude and latitude. The specific spot on the planet.
Relative location is the relationship of a place to other places (The Five Themes of Geography pdf).

Humans are adept at modifying and adapting to different environments. Starting off as hunters and
gathers, humans have progressed to the ability to farm and raise livestock. We have further
modified our environment to the point trade is used primarily with currency. We now can buy a
large variety of different foods from supermarkets and many different styles of clothing from a
huge selection of clothing stores. We now use heaters and a/c units to modify our climate in
houses and businesses. The selection and specialization of shelter also points to how well humans
have adapted. We continue to develop and modify our existing environments to increase our
standard of living and longevity of life. There is a growing concern we may be harming our current
environment with the overuse of fossil fuels.
Movement
Movement deals with studies of societal migration and circulation in the different countries of the
world. It defines how people get from one place to another locally and globally.
Humans Interacting on the Earth
Physical movement of people allows the human race to explore different things such as the ocean,
moon, and land. Another characteristic of movement is the moving of possessions from one place
to another on earth. It is the study of human exchange. A particularly essential aspect of movement
is the movement of people s ideas.
Region
A region is characterized by things an area has in common. It is defined as an area that has unifying

Cultural Relativism In The Emerald Forest
1. In my own words, I believe that the anthropological definition of cultural relativism is that only
the people that are part of a particular culture should be the ones to define and portray that culture s
aspects. No other culture should be allowed to criticize another culture for their beliefs, or compare
their cultureto another culture.
Anthropologists use cultural relativism when studying another culture. To do so, anthropologists
must be very open minded. They have to put their own cultural beliefs aside when they study
another culture. They have to learn the other cultures language and beliefs without being critical
based on the differences from their own personal culture.
2. Culture relativism was used in the films Avatar, The Emerald... Show more content on

To romanticize a culture means to focus on particular things to makes it seem like something it
is not. It usually makes it look more positive than it really is. It focuses on imaginative aspects,
emotion, nature, and the presence of a hero. In the film The Emerald Forest, the father, Bill,
searches for his son, Tommy, for ten years on a quest to bring him back home. When Bill finds
Tommy, his new name is Tomme and has become one of the members of the Invisible People
tribe and become part of a new culture. The filmmaker romanticizes the Invisible People s
culture when he focuses on how Bill changes his emotion towards the tribe, as well as focusing
on the reliance on nature. The film starts by making you dislike the tribe for taking Tommy away
from the family, but by the end of the film the viewers side with the tribe. Romanticism was
shown by the progression of emotions of Bill and the rest of the tribe of hatred to respect.
Tomme wants to make the tribe and Bill accept each other. At first Bill and the tribe don t get
along because they come from different cultures. But Bill ends up staying with the tribe for some
time because he wants to try to get his son to come back to his original family. Bill takes part in
some of the cultures traditions which focuses on how the Bill and the tribe are accepting, trusting,
and growing a liking towards each other. By the end of the film, Bill accepts the fact that his son
has found a new life and lets Tommy and the rest of their

The Lovely Bones Dualism Essay
Director of the Lovely Bones,Peter Jackson successfully turned words on paper into a visual
masterpiece. The Lovely Bones is a dramatic thriller that depicts the beautiful life and tragic
murder of Susie Salmon. Through dualism along with specific blocking techniques and changing
background noises,Peter Jackson portrays the fallacy that is feeling safe in the suburbs, the
connection people have with their earthly possessions, and the falsehood that doing good things
will lead to a good life. Suburbs are often described as the safest place on earth, but there in the
safest place,Susie would meet her demise. No one would have ever suspected that a serial killer
lived just a few doors down..Peter Jackson uses a seemingly friendly neighborhood murderer

New World Art Analysis
This weeks reading concentrated largely on the discovery of the new world and how Europe came
to understand the peoples from these newly discovered lands. Of course since this discovery was
long before the advent of camera or telecommunications, artists were commissioned to interpret logs
and accounts of those who experienced the Americasfirst hand. This made way for a great deal of
artistic interpretation as the artist translated these descriptions in pictographic form. The three
assigned readings each concentrated on an artist and their approach to depicting the Americas. Of
course each had their own positive and negative aspects, but one thing that remained common
between the three ( Stradando s, de Bry s, and Burgkmair s) was the comparison... Show more

In his work Stradano creates fantastical and mythical depictions of what the new world would look
like. In a way I think this is really refreshing, because despite all of Burgkmair s efforts, he would
always be playing a game of telephone, receiving his information second hand rather than
grasping it with his own eyes. This in turn make his efforts a bit futile since they are not exactly
scientific in their rendition. It is because of this that I find Stradano s approach so delightful, he
did not pretend to know what the new world looked like, or how the people of that world acted or
looked like. Instead he made illustrations that described a great deal of how the people of Europe
felt about the discovery of the new world, as a placed filled with wonder and pleasure that was
almost mystical to them. Instead of comparing the savage/civilized, he concentrated on depicting
the discovery of the americas as an idealized mythical endeavor, equating it to something like birth
of Venus or the Fall of Adam and Eve. Despite the fact that the treatment of europeans towards the
Americans was dismal and unfair, they did discover the land, which in itself is a fantastical feat
and for this reason Stradano and his patrons wittily made art that praised the expansion of the

Community Oriented Policing Pros And Cons
The chief of the Abington Police, Chief William (Bill) Kelly came to the campus on Thursday to
talk with the criminal justice class about policing. Chief Kelly has been serving for forty three
years between police forces in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania and has been a police chief for
thirty three years. With his years of experience, Chief Kelly talked about primarily three main ideas:
Problem Solving, Community Oriented Policing and Abington s Approach to Policing.
Problem Solving policing is an officer s ability to assess and properly address any given situation.
To utilize problem solving successfully, it is necessary to use the three types of knowledge police
officers use when faced with a situation: Classical, Situational, and Procedural. Chief Kelly then
proceeded to use these principal to explain the events 9/11, being that ... Show more content on

Not only has the department won several international and national awards, but there is a huge
partnership between the community and the police force. Chief Kelly mentioned that is was all
to accredit to the COPPSSAT program that the department has. COPPSSAT has four main goals
for all officers that have made this department so successful. The first goal was to actually asses
and look at the criminal rates to show where and what types of criminal are predominate in the
area. From there the officers try to help those at risk. By using the mindset of establishing a good
relationship with the community, it has helped the department reach out to the minority groups
located in Abington. So if any sort of discrimination fears against police are an issue, these groups
are working with the police to help form a better relationship. Arguably the most important goal,
Chief Kelly set a goal to ASK the Community of their Concerns. By focusing on these goals, it has
helped the Abington police force stand out from their counterparts; this is the reason for all of the

Light And Dark In The Great Gatsby
I don t tell the truth, I tell what ought to be truth. And if that is sinful, then let me be damned for it!
(Williams 145). The common theme of light and dark is used by American authors to help reveal
truth. Characters hiding from the truth also hide from the light. These characters hide because they
are scared of revealing the truthto others and to themselves. When Blanche describes her view on
the truth, she doesn t know that she almost predicts the tragic end to her life, which can be blamed
on her lies. Hiding from the lightillustrates instability and an apprehensive life. In an attempt to
appear a certain way, characters create these lies about their past. Their lies eventually become the
most important thing in their lives, and leads to their demise. In A Streetcar Named Desire, The
Great Gatsby,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lies characters create are often to cover up a past they are not proud of. In A Streetcar
Named Desire, Blanche is a mysterious who has a strong distaste for being in direct light. She
relies on the dark to hide her insincerity. When she first arrives at her sister s home, she describes
how she can t stand a naked light bulb, any more than I can a rude remark or a vulgar action
(Williams 60). This strong disfavor towards light reveals Blanche s lies throughout the novel.
Blanche s main lie is her age. She hides from the light to make her appear younger. Blanche also
hides from her desolate past. Blanche married young and shortly after, the young man stuck [a]
revolver into his mouth, and fired (115). Blaming the suicide on herself, Blanche tries to hide
from the past away from the starkness of light that would reveal everything. In The Great Gatsby,
characters also use the dark to hide from realities in their life. Gatsby s goals in life are
represented by a green light on the end of the dock. This light overshadows Gatsby, leaving him in
the dark. Although this light is something he always reaches

Romeo And Juliet 1968 And 1996
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet , is the most well known classical piece of sentimental
literature in the world. Throughout the years, it has been adapted into films by directors from an
extensive range of dialect backgrounds. Among those, Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 version and the
modern version directed by Baz Luhrmann in 1996, are both unquestionably the most successful
and popular variations. Roger Ebert, quoted Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 film version of Romeo and
Juliet stating The success of the film depends upon Whiting and Miss Hussey...They are
magnificent . The leading actors incorporate Leonard Whiting in the role of Romeo, and Olivia
Hussey essentially as Juliet. Peter Travers, quoted Baz Luhrmann s 1996 film version of Romeo
and Juliet stating Amid the clamor from outraged purists and... Show more content on

The 1968 adaptation, used reassuring and dignified music to give the viewer a sense of
perception and awareness to the rituals that were commonly explored then. Meanwhile the
music in the 1996 adaption, was generally western styled. What is a Youth was the first
arrangement of lyrics by Nino Rota words by Eugene Walter, for Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 movie.
Kissing You was a tune by British vocalist Des ree and composed by Timothy Atack, for Baz
Luhrmann s 1996 movie. The props and clothing devoted to both Franco Zeffirelli s and Baz
Luhrmann s movies, are what sustained the mood for particular scenes. Within the 1968 form, the
selection of costumes were exceptionally customary and traditional. However, within the 1996 form
the costumes had aroused a sensation of interest to the audiences. For Baz Luhrmann s 1996 film,
Romeo and Juliet s costumes were thoroughly picked and have symbolic implications to them.

The Threat Of Food Sources
THREAT TO FOOD SOURCES
Climate change doesn t just mean that certain species will suffer from the loss of habitat. There
will be a cascade effect up and down the food chain, affecting the most basic species of prey and
apex predators alike. Dominant predators with a strong preference for a carnivorous diet are
arguably more vulnerable to destruction of their environments. If the prey population suffers, it
directly affects the survival of the predators that depend on them. Polar bears have an especially
focused diet, and seals are their prefered prey. Interestingly, the milk produced by polar bear
mothers is more similar to that of pinnipeds (seals) than it is to milk of most terrestrial mammals
(Amstrup, 599). Like polar bears, several species of seal depend on a reliable presence of sea ice in
order to breed (Derocher 2004, p. 168). A dwindling seal population will almost certainly affect
polar bears.
Polar bears are unique from their omnivorous cousins in that they have adapted to an arctic climate
with a specialized diet. Ringed seals make up the majority of their diet, along with other species
of seal, whales, and walruses (Thiemann 2008, p. 591). Although I have previously argued here
is some hope that polar bears can adapt to different food sources like geese and caribou, further
research indicates that a diet of land animals such as geese and their eggs is a poor substitute. First
of all, the list of prey I mentioned all have one thing in common: A thick

Fodor And Pylyshyn Summary
If Fodor and Pylyshyn are correct and every case of seeing a thing involves seeing a thing as
something or other, then we must reject Dretske s second proposition: if S sees x, and x is F,
that does not imply that S sees that x is an F. This is because, seeing x (a thing) as something or
other is equivalent to seeing a fact about x (that x is F). If I see a thing (a tree for instance) as
something or other (say, a Ficus), then I see a fact about that tree (that tree is a Ficus). Thus, for
the purposes that Fodor and Pylyshyn use the term seeing as and Dretske uses seeing facts, we
can consider these terms interchangeable. This leaves us with the following proposition: every
case of seeing must also involve fact seeing. Thus, we are now in a position where if S sees x, and
x is F, that does imply that S sees that x is F.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fodor and Pylyshyn are careful to place these constraints on their notion of seeing as in their
paper. They point out that if I see Tonto s friend as the man on the horse, it does not follow that I
see the Lone Ranger. This is because the man on the horse is the intentional object of my
perception, not the Lone Ranger. I may not be able to take on the Lone Ranger as an intentional
object because I may not know who the Lone Ranger is, or, I may believe the Lone Ranger to be
a myth therefore I only see a man dressed as the Lone Ranger. Thus, when we say that every case
of seeing involves fact seeing, we are not saying that every case of seeing involves seeing just
any facts. Rather, we can only see the facts that we are aware of; Tonto s friend on the horse for
instance. Now that we have suitably constrained our proposition, we can properly address how it
affects Dretske s analysis of change

  • 2. Anorexia Nervos A Psychological And Physical Causes And... Every time you view your reflection in a mirror, the sight of your body horrifies you. You have become so brainwashed to believe that your body is unacceptable, that you have formed an obsession with being smaller. This is how people with eating disorders feel. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) (2016), about one fifth of people with anorexia are related to at least one person with the disorder. Anorexia nervosais an eating disorder with mainly adolescent victims. Different studies have been able to identify some of the psychological and physical causes and consequences of anorexia. Many people dismiss anorexia nervosa as a short lived adolescent disorder, but most do not realize the disease s long lasting implications on health and how crucial it is to seek treatment. The UMMC (2016) defines anorexia nervosa as, an emotional disorder that focuses on food, but many researchers believe it is an attempt to deal with perfectionism and a desire to gain control by strictly regulating food and weight . The McGill Journal of Medicine (2007) states that some of the causes of anorexia are refusal to maintain adequate body weightand intense fear of gaining weight. Other causes of anorexia have been identified as severe trauma, stress, abnormal serotonin levels, an environment that promotes thin body image, want for perfectionism, and family history of eating disorders (UMMC, 2016). It is no surprise that the body image that society portrays as being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Nozick s The Examined Life Harsimran Natt Philosophy 1 Final Prompt #1 Value and Meaning Nozick had clear definitions of value and meaning in The Examined Life that can be applied to anyone s life. According to Nozick, meaning involves a connection to something beyond internal boundaries , or values. He also says values possess an internal unified coherence, which are split into two categories: instrumental and intrinsic. According to his definition, there is only certain aspects of life that have meaning and value and there could be changes made to life to make it have more value and meaning. Nozick s definition leads us to see that meaning depends on value. There are two types of value, as stated before. The first type is instrumental value, which is when something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have already connected my family, religion, and education to happiness. The more I connect to intrinsically valuable things, the more meaning my life will have. Most people connect the meaning of life to things such as family and friends which add instrumental and intrinsic values to a person s life. The same applies for me, my life has meaning because I relate it to things that I value. The more I connect with valuable things, the more meaning my life will have. In the future, my career will add more value to my life. I will be doing something that I love, and that gives me happiness, for most of my day. It will also give me financial stability in the future, which will be important. My career and financial stability will allow me to take care of the people that I love (such as for example, taking care of health of my parents as they get older). As I will get older, I will be able to give back to my parents, which will give me the greatest happiness in the world. • 5. Activism In The Hunger Games Today is Martin Luther King Day. Martin Luther King Junior was highly known for his activism during the Civil Rights Movement. In his final Mountaintop speech, he proclaimed, The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land; confusion all around. That s a strange statement. But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. And I see God working ... in a way that men, in some strange way, are responding. Something is happening in our world. The masses of people are rising up. (1) Martin Luther King Junior was a symbol of hope for equality for the oppressed, peace for the nation, and most of all, love, for all people. This is a similar theme found in Mockingjay. As The Hunger Games Trilogy comes to a close, Katniss Everdeen has survived two Hunger Games only to find her district annihilated, her closest... However, this move was what catapulted her into various tiers of activism. Her climatic activism occurred in Mockingjay. Everything she went through led her to a place where she felt no option but to fight for equality, peace and love for her people. She battled for complete equality for all 13 districts of Panem, sacrificed herself as a whole for others safety, and in the resolution, she gave hope for the freedom to love. As the Hunger Games trilogy draws to close, Katniss finally embraces the tender future ahead. She might have felt like Martin Luther King Junior when he said, Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. • 6. A Visit At The Georgia Dome Everyone expects their sixteenth birthday to be this grand wonderful event with friends, family, and maybe some cake, but what most don t expect is to make their eighteenth just as important. Yes, turning eighteen is just as significant as turning sixteen because it symbolizes your transformation from a teenager to an adult, but that is why we celebrate turning sixteen as heavily as we do. My eighteenth birthdaytruly was a grand event, one where even in my wildest imaginations I never pictured doing the things I did, it felt like something out of a Hollywood movie script. The celebration started with a concert at the Georgia Dome, on October 1st, leading all the way to its grand finale, a trip to New York City, on October 10th. It was two solid weeks of surprise after surprise with each surprise being bigger and better than the last, or at least in my opinion anyway. October 1st was seeing One Direction, my favorite band, live, the 2nd was surprise tickets to Cirque Du Soleil, the 3rd was a surprise party with friends and family, the 10th through the 12th was a trip to New York City, and lastly and later on in the day of the 12th was seeing Disney s Frozen on ice. I don t think I have ever been happier than when attending all five of these events. Seven o clock pm, Wednesday October 1st, 2014, was the exact time my skipped a beat; it was the exact time the concert of my dreams started. Essay on Psychological Breakdown in Strindberg s The Father Psychological Breakdown in Strindberg s The Father *Works Cited Not Included In Strindberg s The Father, we witness a string of actions that brings a sane and happy man to the point of utter lunacy in the span of twenty four hours. While I think the play as a whole is less convincing in terms of its naturalism (perhaps very much due to the way it immediately dates itself), it does very fluidly connect the actions bringing about this psychological breakdown. To begin, the Captain lives in a house surrounded by women, of whom as a race he is rather untrusting. The Captain s views on parental responsibility and paternity are made clear in the first three scenes of Act One. This is intelligent playwrighting in my opinion, even though I ... Because she has previously held up his mail at the post office, she has the grounds to say what she does, and while she is misleading the doctor, she has left herself with an excuse as well (the question of her husband s sanity). The doctor s questioning of the captain is spurred by Laura s deceit, and he finds the Captain obstinate, stubborn, and a bit compulsive. He only focuses on these compulsions as mental disturbances because Laura s hints led him to notice them more closely. The next major action in the breakdown of the Captain is Laura s first hint of the possibility that he may not be Bertha s father. This then leads him to leave the house (somewhat out of the blue to all but Laura) to research parentage. The next major action is the dual deceit of the Captain, as Laura now has an ally in the Doctor the doctor remains to supposedly look after the Mother in Law. The second act, as the first, ends in an argument between Laura and the Captain, as we see her slowly gaining the upper hand. At this point, the Captain is left unsure of his fatherhood, questioning it on the basis that no man can truly know if he is the father. He still retains his wits at this point, his scientific reasoning, but is losing control of his emotions. This ends in his final throwing of the lamp, shattering it on the wall. • 11. Aboriginal Rights in Canada There has been a great deal of contention over Aboriginal Rights in Canada. Much of this conflict can be said to stem from the differences in both the philosophy and cultural systems of Aboriginal and non aboriginal people, with much of it originating from the time of the original European settlement of Canada(UBC Law, 2009). The focus of this conflict has been primarily on the rights to land, sea and resources, as well as how the law is to apply to the Aboriginal peoples of Canada (UBC Law, 2009). Contention on law began early into the colonization period. Originally the Royal Proclamation of 1763, set by the British Crown, was in place to protect the land rights of Canadian Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). The Royal Proclamation recognized Aboriginal title, and sought to establish relations with the Aboriginals (UBC Law, 2009). Ultimately, the proclamation meant that there was Crown recognition of land ownership, and that Aboriginal authority would continue under North Americas new British reign (UBC Law, 2009). In order to protect these land rights, a provision was made. The provision states that only the British Crown had the ability to acquire land in Canada from the Aboriginal community, and could only do so by treaty (UBC Law, 2009). Thus, the original Royal Proclamation of 1763 served to protect Aboriginal land rights under the British Sovereignty. However, despite British attempts to cement Aboriginal rights, the colonial governments did not necessarily cooperate. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Factors of a person becoming obese can be all of the following, community and environment, drugs, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, lack of sleep, bad habits (smoking and drinking), genetics, social and economic issues, and one of the most important is they way a person s family lives. Obesity can happen so quickly in young children if their family does not do anything to make sure their children are getting enough exercise and good nutrition. First, community and the environment play a role in exercise. A way a person can help prevent becoming overweight, if living on a farm or in a neighborhood. Gather friends, family, or even pets and take them for a walk, ride a bike, run, and some if close enough may walk to work. It is very important to make sure environments are created to make it simpler and easier to participate in physical exercise and maintaining a healthy diet. Sigmund Freud; 1856 1939, an Austrian doctor was one of the pioneers in studying the nature of personality, cognitive development, and infancy, and also remarked how important the first years of the individual s life are for future development of the mentioned characteristics (Coon Mitterer, 2012). According to John W. Satrock behavior; as part of the psychoanalitic theories, is merely a surface characteristic and a true and deep understanding of development is require to analize the symbolic meaning of behavior and the deep inner workings of the mind, and as an example, how early experiences with parents extensively shape development in diferent areas (Santrock, 2011). Doctor Freud believed that all thoughts, emotions, and actions, are determined. In other words, nothing is an accident: If we probe deeply enough we will find the causes of every thought or action. He also believed that unconscious processes (not external stimuli) were responsible. In addition, Freud theorized that the core of personality is formed before age 6 and a series of psychosexual stages, and believed that erotic urges in childhood have lasting effects on development (Coon Mitterer, 2012) Then, Freud formed five psychosexual stages; the oral, anal, latency, and genital. Woman are constantly putting their bodies through awful diets and harsh workouts, just to become perfect in someone else eyes. Woman and young girls see figures of other women with a double zero pants size and ask why can t I look like that? Today society puts too much pressure on young women to have the perfect body. What society needs to say is all women are beautiful, there is no such thing as the perfect body. Today, women are putting down other womanfor being a size fourteen. The men in our society are not helping either, by making a woman feel her body is not excepted, by saying they have a preference of a woman. Images like this get stuck in the average Americans mind and they start to paint a picture of perfection. Women tend to be judged on the basis of what they look like, not who they are, and the more positive the evaluation, the more likely a woman is to be valued by others... (Strelan, P., Hargreaves, D. • 18. Paint Pigment Essay The History of Paint Pigments Chem 111 404 April 24, 2013 Introduction: This report expresses five different pigments that were formed during chemical reactions. Three out of the total five reactions went through a metathesis, or double replacment reaction. A metathesis reaction can be defined as a chemical reaction in which an element or radical in one compound exchanges places with another element or radical in another compound. (Webster). The other two pigments underwent a neutralization reaction, which is A reaction between an acid and a base that yields a salt and water. (Webster). In both types of reaction two substances are being combined to form a new solution. The metathesis reaction produces a solution and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first half was filtered and stored for the completion of the experiment, while the other half was stored for a week, unfiltered. One milliliter of 0.5 M iron (III) chloride was measured into a test tube. Then, 0.25 M solution of potassium ferrocyanide was mixed in. They were then filtered, and left to dry. The next week there were four paint binding options: egg tempura, casein, acrylic, and water color or gum arabic. This experiment used watercolor. The first step was to grind the pigment with water to make a stiff paste. Then, gum Arabic was added in a 1:1 ratio. Results: The data produced from the experiment demonstrates that when two solutions are mixed, they undergo a reaction that produces a pigmented or colored precipitate and also a liquid. The precipitate produced then can be fashioned into paint. In the first pigment, chrome yellow was produced. The yellow sodium chromate combined with the clear zinc sulfate created an orange liquid and a yellow precipitate. This is a metathesis reaction that causes the solution to be neutralized. The addition of sodium hydroxide causes the solution to become more basic. After the solution was filtered it created a yellow solid, and when the precipitate was crushed up and gum Arabic was it created a yellow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. What Is The Situationist Perspective In Lord Of The Flies Dr. Zimbardo uses a situationist perspective on the ways through which anti social behavior is understood, treated and prevented. This view contrasts with the traditional dispositional perspective, which locates evil within individual predispositions and looks at a person s internal factors and traits. The situationist perspective is different in that, unlike the dispositional perspective, it often uses experimental and laboratory research to demonstrate vital phenomena, whereas other perspectives may only use archival or correlational data to suggest such answers. The main example that illustrates through experimental research and social analysis is the ease by which ordinary, good people are induced into behaving in evil ways.... We live in a world cloaked with evil; it is ironic how humans are capable of committing the most heroic, selfless acts and also the most vile and horrific ones. Lord of the Flies and the Psychology of Deindividuation This section is mainly about The Lord of the Flies by William Golding and how it illustrates that one s external physical appearance can lead to a tremendous change in one s mental state. It is really interesting how in the book, once the boys get over the initial moral dilemma of whether to kill a pig and live or whether to let the pig live and die themselves, they have no problem with killing pigs. With every killing, the death of the pig seems to become more brutal and demoralizing. At one point, they even impale the pig with a stick in the anus, proclaiming their deed in horrific valor. This goes back to sexual aggression because it can be viewed as the raping and killing of a female pig. I can justify the gradual ease of killing pigs with an example. My friend, who goes hunting often, told me about how he can manage to kill a dear without feeling bad inside. He said that the actual killing is only hard the first time and that the other times, it is relatively easy because one simply stops thinking about it. One thinks about the deer as the prey, not as an innocent animal minding its own business. As for the experiment with the deindividuated and individuated women, it seems to make a lot of sense ... • 20. The Forever Moving Land Essay The Forever Moving Land nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The land below us is always in motion. Plate tectonics studies these restless effects to give us a better understanding of the Earth and its past. New molten rocks are poured out in the form of magma from the mid ocean ridges. The rock is recycled and re entered back into the earth in deep ocean trenches through convection current. The convection current in the mantle drives plates around either against or away from each other. These collisions give rise to earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains, and continental drift. The crashing and spreading of the plates forms the landscape of the Earth as we see it today. The positions of the land masses today is a result of continental drift.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cooled magma will, in time, sink back down into the Earth in the deep ocean trenches. The mantle sinking down produces subduction zones or Benioff zones. The deepest part of the ocean resides in these areas. There are three types of boundaries where plates meet: divergent boundaries the upwelling of magma; convergent boundaries where the plates collide producing mountains, volcanoes, and earthquakes; and transform boundaries lateral movement. Transform plates are caused by fracture zones. When a rift opens from the upwelling of magma it causes a crack in the crust. As new magma rises to the surface, the crack increases caused by the pressure, resulting in a horizontal faulting. The fractured plate pieces travel in the same direction as the original plate was traveling away from the ocean ridge. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;During the early 1900 s, a theory of a super continent was developed by Alfred Wegener. He was ridiculed for his ideas that continental drift produced the present positions of the continents from a single super continent called Pangea. This theory is widely accepted today, however. There was abundant evidence for Wegener to believe in the existance of Pangea. The shape of the continents could be pieced together like a giant jigsaw puzzle suggesting that the continents were once glued together. Different aliases were added to this one, remarkably Son of Re (the sun god) and Perfect God, both presented in the fourth administration (c. 2575 2465 bce), when the incredible pyramids were developed. The name Son of Re put the ruler in a nearby, however, impoverished connection with the heading figure in the pantheon. Courtroom procedures begin before the day of the trial arrives. In a criminal case, the pre trial proceedings vary based on the severity of the crime. With a simple misdemeanor case, which could only result in minor jail time or a fine, the pre trial procedures are short and simple. Usually, the defendant is called to a pre trial hearing where they are read the charges pressed against them and are asked to give either their plea of guilty and be given a sentencing date, not guilty and be given a trial date and bail amount, or to plead no contest (American Bar Association). However, in a felony case that could lead to a serious incarceration sentence, the procedure becomes more complex. There is a first hearing that is similar to that of a misdemeanor, except that a plea is not given. This is done at the second preliminary hearing to determine if there is actually enough evidence to charge the defendant with a crime. If there isn t enough, the charges are dropped, but if there is, the case moves along in the process (American Bar Association). Also prior to the trial, a jury of 6 to 12 people must be selected. • 39. Culture Is Defined As The Beliefs, Customs, And Arts Merriam Webster states culture is defined: as the beliefs, customs, and arts, of a particular society, group, place, or time. People think of culture as they think of a specific person(s) or a region but with a little studying of culture they would understand what it really is. The first thing we have to understand is that culture is taught, or learned over time. Culture is not something you were born with or receive from your parents. People learn the different cultures through life experiences, family, and friends. We as humans all require food, water, sleep and education on important cultural characteristics in order to learn different culture. Everywhere in the world is different and people come from all different parts of the world because culture is shared. We learn from others and how people have live throughout the world. The next characteristic would be symbols, symbols can be anything from money, art, and language. In parts of the world language to a specific region is important to their culture. Culture is engraved into our brains at a young age. A country like the United States, foreigners arrive into a new culture and learn to adapt in many ways the same as we would have to while in another country. The last characteristic would be dynamic, this means things change over time. People always have changed over time and areas change as society grows and advancement in technology arises. Lawrence uses many insightful allusions, allowing readers to make connections and better comprehend his argument. Not all readers can immediately understand Lawrence s criticism of Hester because he uses many unfamiliar arguments. However, by tying in references to books, mythology, and religion, Lawrence makes his meaning more clear, as readers may be familiar with the cultural aspects he refers to. The connections the readers make allow Lawrence to better persuade them that Hester is unworthy of the praise she receives. First, he refers to James Fenimore Cooper s The Deerslayer, a book about a frontiersman whom Lawrence compares Hester s lover, Dimmesdale, to. He writes, Deerslayer refused to be seduced by Judith Hutter. At least the Sodom apple of sin didn t fetch him. Although Lawrence s main criticism is of Hester Prynne, he also expresses disapproval of Dimmesdale. Lawrence effectively uses Deerslayer to prove that Dimmesdale actively chooses to be seduced by Hester. He establishes a stark contrast between Dimmesdale and Deerslayer, showing that Dimmesdale could have turned down Hester but chose not to. By doing so, Lawrence also emphasizes the sin Hester committed in seducing Dimmesdale. Later, Lawrence references a more commonly known character, the Greek mythological hero Hercules. In my own words, I believe that the anthropological definition of cultural relativism is that only the people that are part of a particular culture should be the ones to define and portray that culture s aspects. No other culture should be allowed to criticize another culture for their beliefs, or compare their cultureto another culture. Anthropologists use cultural relativism when studying another culture. To do so, anthropologists must be very open minded. They have to put their own cultural beliefs aside when they study another culture. They have to learn the other cultures language and beliefs without being critical based on the differences from their own personal culture. 2. Of course since this discovery was long before the advent of camera or telecommunications, artists were commissioned to interpret logs and accounts of those who experienced the Americasfirst hand. This made way for a great deal of artistic interpretation as the artist translated these descriptions in pictographic form. In a way I think this is really refreshing, because despite all of Burgkmair s efforts, he would always be playing a game of telephone, receiving his information second hand rather than grasping it with his own eyes. This in turn make his efforts a bit futile since they are not exactly scientific in their rendition. It is because of this that I find Stradano s approach so delightful, he did not pretend to know what the new world looked like, or how the people of that world acted or looked like. Instead he made illustrations that described a great deal of how the people of Europe felt about the discovery of the new world, as a placed filled with wonder and pleasure that was almost mystical to them. Instead of comparing the savage/civilized, he concentrated on depicting the discovery of the americas as an idealized mythical endeavor, equating it to something like birth of Venus or the Fall of Adam and Eve. Despite the fact that the treatment of europeans towards the Americans was dismal and unfair, they did discover the land, which in itself is a fantastical feat and for this reason Stradano and his patrons wittily made art that praised the expansion of the ... • 49. The Threat Of Food Sources THREAT TO FOOD SOURCES Climate change doesn t just mean that certain species will suffer from the loss of habitat. There will be a cascade effect up and down the food chain, affecting the most basic species of prey and apex predators alike. Dominant predators with a strong preference for a carnivorous diet are arguably more vulnerable to destruction of their environments. If the prey population suffers, it directly affects the survival of the predators that depend on them. Polar bears have an especially focused diet, and seals are their prefered prey. Interestingly, the milk produced by polar bear mothers is more similar to that of pinnipeds (seals) than it is to milk of most terrestrial mammals (Amstrup, 599). Like polar bears, several species of seal depend on a reliable presence of sea ice in order to breed (Derocher 2004, p. 168). A dwindling seal population will almost certainly affect polar bears. Polar bears are unique from their omnivorous cousins in that they have adapted to an arctic climate with a specialized diet. Ringed seals make up the majority of their diet, along with other species of seal, whales, and walruses (Thiemann 2008, p. 591). Although I have previously argued here is some hope that polar bears can adapt to different food sources like geese and caribou, further research indicates that a diet of land animals such as geese and their eggs is a poor substitute. First of all, the list of prey I mentioned all have one thing in common: A thick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Fodor And Pylyshyn Summary If Fodor and Pylyshyn are correct and every case of seeing a thing involves seeing a thing as something or other, then we must reject Dretske s second proposition: if S sees x, and x is F, that does not imply that S sees that x is an F. This is because, seeing x (a thing) as something or other is equivalent to seeing a fact about x (that x is F). If I see a thing (a tree for instance) as something or other (say, a Ficus), then I see a fact about that tree (that tree is a Ficus). Thus, for the purposes that Fodor and Pylyshyn use the term seeing as and Dretske uses seeing facts, we can consider these terms interchangeable. This leaves us with the following proposition: every case of seeing must also involve fact seeing. Thus, we are now in a position where if S sees x, and x is F, that does imply that S sees that x is F.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fodor and Pylyshyn are careful to place these constraints on their notion of seeing as in their paper. They point out that if I see Tonto s friend as the man on the horse, it does not follow that I see the Lone Ranger. This is because the man on the horse is the intentional object of my perception, not the Lone Ranger. I may not be able to take on the Lone Ranger as an intentional object because I may not know who the Lone Ranger is, or, I may believe the Lone Ranger to be a myth therefore I only see a man dressed as the Lone Ranger. Thus, when we say that every case of seeing involves fact seeing, we are not saying that every case of seeing involves seeing just any facts. Rather, we can only see the facts that we are aware of; Tonto s friend on the horse for instance. Now that we have suitably constrained our proposition, we can properly address how it affects Dretske s analysis of change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
