Racism Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of racism is a challenging endeavor that demands a nuanced
understanding of the subject matter. The complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of
racism, involving historical, social, economic, and psychological dimensions. Addressing such a
sensitive and pervasive issue requires careful research, empathy, and a commitment to presenting
a comprehensive view.
Firstly, delving into the historical roots of racism involves navigating through centuries of
systemic discrimination, prejudice, and injustice. This requires extensive reading and critical
analysis to trace the evolution of racist ideologies and their impact on different communities.
Understanding the socio-economic factors that contribute to the perpetuation of racism further
adds to the difficulty, as it necessitates a grasp of complex societal structures and power
dynamics.
Moreover, discussing contemporary manifestations of racism demands staying abreast of current
events and societal shifts. This involves engaging with a wide range of sources to capture the
evolving nature of racial prejudices, discrimination, and resistance movements. Crafting a well-
informed essay requires not only identifying patterns and trends but also addressing the
intersectionality of racism with other forms of oppression.
Attempting to unravel the psychological aspects of racism poses its own set of challenges. It
involves exploring the deep-seated biases and prejudices that exist on an individual level and
examining how these attitudes contribute to broader systemic issues. Tackling this aspect
requires a delicate balance between academic rigor and a sensitive exploration of personal
experiences.
In conclusion, writing an essay on racism necessitates a comprehensive understanding of its
historical roots, contemporary manifestations, socio-economic implications, and psychological
dimensions. It is a task that demands meticulous research, critical thinking, and a commitment to
fostering understanding. Despite its difficulty, addressing racism in written form contributes to
the ongoing dialogue for societal change and equality.

Working Capital Simulation: Managing Growth
The Corporate Finance course has helped me, as a student, gain intelligence to
make informed decisions upon analyzing the details for Sunflower Nutraceuticals
(SNC). These decisions will influence the company s overall growth annually. In
addition to various details of the SNC Company I have also made various decisions
in each of the phases of SNC s simulation which has an estimated values to figure
out the results. This paper also explains how SNC s decisions are influenced with
regards to the working capital followed with the final step of evaluating the general
affects associated with the limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This decision increased SNC s EBIT by approximately 200,000. Although SNC s
sales and EBIT figures increased, their net working capital and profit margins will
remain at current figures. Additionally, acquiring Atlantic Wellness as a client will
help increase SNC s sales significantly but will sacrifice portions of inventory and
accounts receivable. Because of their current cash position SNC must keep a
minimum of $3 on hand to meet their company s operational needs therefore
sacrificing portions of inventory and accounts receivable may not be a good idea.
However, there is a positive for SNC. The risk of inventory and accounts receivable
can be equalized by negotiating a profitable deal with merchant Ayurveda Natural.
II. Leverage Supplier Discount SNC accepts the Atlantic Wellness contract
allowing them to increase company sales. In addition to the contract with Atlantic
Wellness, SNC also considers the acceptance of Ayurveda Naturals with the
contract offer which is favorable to SNC because payment terms reflect a net gain.
III. Tightening Receivable Accounts Super Sports Centers accounts for 20% of
SNC s sales figures. However, Super Sports Centers takes the approximately 200 days
to pay their accounts with SNC which is well above the normal 90 day average. To
resolve this issue, SNC
Thomas Stearns Eliot, Or T.S. Eliot, Was Born In 1888 On
Thomas Stearns Eliot, or T.S. Eliot, was born in 1888 on the Mississippi River in
St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout his life, Eliot wrote and published several pieces of
writing that are highly regarded and still studied in the world of literature today.
Eliot was an American British author, critic, playwright, and poet. After attending
Smith Academy, and Milton Academy, he went on to graduate in just 3 years at
Harvard University. He also got his masters and did doctoral work. He attended
Oxford, but ultimately left for England after a short amount of time. The Love Song
of J. Alfred Prufrockattracted the most attention out of all of Eliot s poems. Just some
of the many techniques used throughout the whole passage are dramatic monologue...

Eliot also uses figures of speech in this passage to establish the theme of death.
Eliot described the afternoon as spread out against the sky like a patient etherized
upon a table. (Eliot 2) in the beginning of the passage, he is describing the sky as a
patient on an operating table under anesthesia. Again, in a later stanza, he says it
sleeps so peacefully! Smoothed by long fingers, asleep ... tired ... or it malingers,
stretched on the floor. (Eliot 75 78). This metaphor is being echoed through the
passage, presenting an eerie and dark setting. This relates directly back to the
reoccurring theme of death and isolation with his use of fearsome imagery. He
obscures the long description of the sky using fragmentation, breaking up the
different images into smaller parts and placing them in different stanzas in the
passage. Another figure of speech used is personification. The yellow fog that rubs
its back upon the window panes. (Eliot 15) Eliot uses personification to turn the
yellow fog into a fearful and timid cat, which represents the fear in Prufrock, and
helps indicate the theme of doubt that we see frequently when he tries to make
decisions. A technique that frequently
Narrative Essay On Riding A Bike
I rushed down the road; my chubby cheeks jiggling as the wind blew swiftly onto
my face. I felt like even Usain Bolt himself wouldn t have been able to accelerate at
the astonishing speeds I was going. Suddenly, once my father decided let go of my
shoulders, I found myself spiraling down a hill uncontrollably. I grabbed the
handlebars firmly as I screamed towards the heavens at the top of my lungs. My feet
flailing around whilst attempting to scour for the pedals. Seconds later, I found
myself crashing onto the side of the road, looking as though I had just challenged
Evander Holyfieldto a twelve round fistfight. At that moment, I had decided, with the
firm resolve of a fickle minded ten year old kid, to never ridea bike again.
Riding a bike has always been one of my greatest challenges of my young life. It was
a childhood dream of mine to be able successfully ride the green Cannondale
Hybrid I had seen in an episode of Tony Hawk s trick moves displayed on television.
In order to achieve this wish of mine, I painstakingly walked seven miles all around
my neighborhood to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, to my surprise, it was quite hard to ride a bike. It took longer than I
realized to perform tricks I had seen the masters like Tony Hawk execute, and even
longer to simply manage to turn around corners. I was determined to become the best
at controlling that two wheeled vehicle. Although, after a certain traumatic fiasco
which lead to my very first visit to the operating room, I decided to lay the bike riding
dream of mine to a rest and pursue some other passions that didn t involve me
rolling down a slope at 20 miles per hour. Despite this, I knew that a measly broken
limb wasn t going to be able to hinder my journey of discover the things around my
Belonging
The concept of belonging is essential. To belong is to form a connection which will
allow a sense of identity, without this we lose our humanity; however, conformity is
in a sense a facade of belonging, as it restrains our freedom and forces us to only
mimic. My studied texts show how society demands us to conform, yet conformity
prevents a sense of true identity being ever created.
This notion is elaborated in the novel, A Clockwork Orange. Alex is a criminal who
doesn t belong anywhere within society. In the novel, the government attempts to
suppress his criminality by physically preventing him from thinking of violence thus
making him conform to their standards. This is a prime example of how society
attempts to make us conform to what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie shows the disastrous effect conformity and fear have among members
who gain their place inside the group at the price of conformity. Shirley Hastings,
for example, lives a life half lived cowering before what Barry Fife will say or
think. She has let the Federation so dominate her that she has no respect for Doug
and can only see her son Scott in terms of winning competitions.
The movie represents belonging using a variety of techniques to distinguish
between the world of artifice and the more realistic world. The image of the
artificial world, shown as the ballroom world, is glitzy and colourful. Luhrmann has
presented this world as having power, whereas the character of Fran, shown in plain
clothes and reading glasses, is initially shown as powerless, because she does not
conform to the ballroom world.
The movie traces the shift from a world of false belonging dominated by
conformity, fear and the cynical manipulations of the ultra sleaze Barry Fife,
towards the iconic last scene where the line between spectators and professional
dancers blurs and is dissolved as Scott dressed in Spanish costume and Fran in
Spanish style red dress put passion back into dance, rescuing it from the deadening
effect of the old brigade.
Taking the similes of the two texts we can arrive at the conclusion that conformity
allows us to become part of a functioning society but can in turn stifle individuality,
expression and self identity.
I ll leave you with two
Determining The Ph Of Household Items
Determining the pH of Household Items
March 22, 2016: Sara, Sam
Introduction: Everyday household items can be seen as just household items .
However, it is often not realized that we could actually determine the pH very easily.
It could also be important to know the pH in everyday life. For example, it is
important to keep track of human pH levels. Some people are curious to see the pH
of their own body, which is a great use to keep acidic levels leveled. Another use in
real life is determining the pH of pools. Whether it s your own or a public pool, pH
indicators come in hand to make sure the pool is sanitary and safe. pH indicators are
indicators that contain halochromic synthetic compound which is added to a solution
so that it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example would be pure water. Most of the time the pH is determined by pH paper
but there are also other ways to determine the pH. For example, in this lab, cabbage
juice was used. Cabbage juice is a great pH indicator because it can be homemade
and easy to access.
Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this experiment is to use both cabbage juice
and pH paper to determine the pH of household items. This way, we can tell which
products are basic and which one are acidic. If we use cabbage juice as an universal
pH indicator by comparing it to pH paper then pH determined by the cabbage juice
will be unstable because by using cabbage juice, it can be different depending on
how diluted it is.
List of Materials needed:
1 drop bottle of cabbage juice
Beakers (depending on how many items)
pH paper
Spot plate(s)
Household products (Dish detergent, coffee, laundry detergent, milk, tap water, etc)
Procedure:
1.In order to find the pH of each household item by using pH paper, the pH paper
was placed on the drop plate. Using the dropper, start by having the household item
dropped onto the pH paper. Immediately observe in order to spot any colour
changes on the pH paper. To determine the pH by using the pH scale and record the
pH on your table of observations. Depending on what the pH is, it could be very
acidic, basic or neutral. Repeat these steps for the other products.
2.The second step in this lab is to use

Robert F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy: compared lives and deaths
November 22, 1963, Dallas Texas, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy rode along
the streets of Dallas, Texas in an open top motorcade. The president s vehicle turns
onto ELM ST. passing the Texas School Book Depository. When the limousine
turned onto ELM ST. Nellie Connally turned to look at President Kennedy and said,
You sure cant say that Dallas doesn t love you, Mr. President. Ironically, a few
moments later President Kennedy was shot, and the waving stopped. The cheering
turned into panic. Fear and confusion filled the eyes of everyone. A similar thing
happened to his brother Robert (Bobby) Francis Kennedy. On June 5, 1968, after
RFK won the Democratic primary in California, an assassin or multiple ones shot
RFK as he passed through the pantry of the Ambassador Hotel. The two brothers died
in their strive to change the world through politics. However, their deaths were not
mere coincidences or random acts of violence. The two assassinations contained a
history and events that led up to the deaths. May 29, 1917 John Fitzgerald Kennedy
emerged into the world to a wealthy and politically prominent family in Brookline,
Massachusetts. John, much like his family, had high intellect in many fields
including politics. He graduated with a high honors degree from Harvard University

It is also a similarity to JFK s assassination. John F. Kennedy was shot multiple times,
but based on one video recording and the autopsy, all of the bullet wounds could
not have come from the depository. John F. Kennedy was hit four times in fact. One
of the shots came from in front. Oswald was in the back right of the motorcade.
RFK had a similar case. Robert had a wound that would ve occurred from behind, but
Sirhan was always in front. Both cases seem to support the possibilities that there

Drinking Age Analysis
Determining legal the appropriate legal age of drinking and the percussions of
alcohol consumption and its adverse consequences is more than a challenge. To
determine if the minimum legal drinking age should be set at 18 or 21 there is many
barriers to surpass, Their main limitation is that the correlation between alcohol
consumption and adverse events imitation is that the correlation between alcohol
consumption and adverse events is probably due in part to factors other than alcohol
consumption due to the fact that to analyze the correct drinking age will have to
involve many discrepancies due to physical and culture wise, as the fact that studies
involving underaged drinking will have to be done. Predicting the estimated legal age

Corporate Overview Of The Automotive Industry
Corporate Overview
Automotive Industry
The automotive industry is widespread globally with a wide range of organizations
involved in the following: development, marketing, manufacturing, designing, and
sales. This analysis will take a further look at automakers in the industry, more
specifically General Motors (GM), Volkswagen(VLKAY, Honda, Nissan, Toyota.
Beginning around the 1890s, the automotive industry has evolved and undergone shift
changes in consumer trends, product development, marketing, and industry
competition shifts. Some of the major changes have been the result of: Regulatory,

The business cycle for the Automotive Industry is filled with long product cycles and
large sums of capital investments. The long cycles of products and the large capital
requirements make planning in the automotive industry quite complex. Furthermore,
the automotive industry outcomes are highly dependent on the global economic
state. For example, as mentioned in a PWC article, In 2015, [Automotive industry
results] turned sour as global economic conditions worsened. This trend makes any
new commitment to invest in a country or region a risky one that must be
deliberately crafted using a clear eyed assessment of market conditions. (Jullens,
Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016) Thus, from the business cycle, it can be presumed that the
automotive industry is foremost a growth industry but at a secondary level it is a
cyclical growth, making it a Cyclical Growth Industry.
Potentials for the automotive industry are more prominent in eco friendly initiatives
and technological improvements for vehicular automation. For example, Tesla has
been a company that has really sought to revolutionize the automotive industry by
introducing cars that are more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, as mentioned,
in a PWC article, the intelligent car is fast moving from the drawing boards to the
streets (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016). This intelligent car, while
Kant’s Practical Imperative in the Film The Insider
Essay
This principle is referred to as Kant s practical imperative and is an important
principle for an ethical system which says that each human being is an end in
himself or herself. No human being should be thought of or used merely as a means
for someone else end. Dr. Jeffrey Wigand the main protagonist of The Insiderportrays
himself to be a conflicted individual as he makes decisions throughout the movie.
Against an undetermined future, he ruminates about what he knows is right for
example, receiving threats, the phone ringing at odd hours. He makes most of his
decisions by weighing the cost and benefits, which may be referred to as Kant s

The Kantian perspective would consider Lowell actions to be unethical, as he
encourage another person to break his promise for a greater of social good. Lowell
knows the extent of the pleasure, but not the pain. The benefits of his encouragement
would uphold the honor of 60 minutes and CBS news, protecting the public against
harm. The disadvantages and the cost would result in Wigand and his family losing
all benefits from the agreement. The possible lawsuit faced against CBS and damages
to the tobacco industry and its employees. If he does not encourage Wigand, its just
result in vice versa, he would receive the benefits and the tobacco industry and
employees are protected. It would costs harm to public if they do not know the truth.
In conclusion it can be seen that both Wigand and Bergman used each other as means
to one anothers end.
Not actually being in his position it would be difficult to decide to what my actual
emotions would be, based on the fact that I would be putting my family in danger
to protect the public. I would have probably done the same as it would be my
moral obligation and the right thing to do. Kant s duty based ethics says that some
acts are wrong or right because of the things or situations that are related and people
have a duty to act in accordance, regardless of the good or bad consequences that
may be produced.
Dr. Wigand decision is an example of goodwill as he disregarded the concern of
consequences of his and his
Air Mass Research Paper
Identify the different air mass types, their origins, and their characteristics
There are five primary air masses in the earth s atmosphere. They are polar, tropical,
arctic, continental and maritime. Each have unique origins from around the world.
These air masses have their own characteristics such as warm, cold, hot, dry and
moist. I will describe each type of air mass including their origin and characteristics.
In addition, I will cover what happens when these air masses combine.
The first air mass I will cover is the polar (P) air mass. Polar is formed poleward of
60 degrees north or south. It is typically cold or cool in temperature. The tropical (T)
air mass is formed within about 30 degrees of the equator. Its characteristics are ...

The official definition of weather is the condition of the atmosphere at a particular
location and moment. Current weather reports are constantly given and are always
changing. They usually include temperature, humidity, dew point, pressure, wind
speed and direction, cloud cover and precipitation. The difference between weather
and climate is that weather is for a specific moment in time, whereas climate is over
years and years. Meteorology is defined as the study of weather and climate.
Meteorologists look at both the long term climate of areas as well as recent weather

will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in
anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support (1). In the
beginning, Anne discusses quit ordinary aspects of a traditional childhood. She
talks about going to school, describing the people she likes, and all her admirers.
Additionally, Anne goes on to mention the aspects of her life that have changed
since the war began, and the restrictions that have been put on her do to her Jewish
belief. For example, she tells us that all Jews are forced to wear a star on their
clothing, as well she is not allowed to use public transportation, ride a bicycle, or
drive a family car. She could only attend Jewish schools, and was not allowed to

Education Is A Great Thing That Everyone Tries To Achieve
Education is a great thing that everyone tries to achieve for themselves and for their
children. The reason for this, is that when one has a great educational background, it
can lead to the person getting a better job, a better income, and a better chance to
provide for their family. Some, however might not get this opportunity or do not
realize the importance of a great educationuntil it is too late. The reasons a person
might not get a great education are numerous, and it can include they can t afford the
high cost that comes with getting a college education, don t have the time, or just
come from a poor family and feel that, they won t be accepted into these schools.

Policy is best defined as a statement by the government of what it intends to do such
as law, regulation, or decision about a specific problem (Birkland, 2016). This
definition about policy seems to say, that a policy tries to combat or resolve an
underlining problem that a community, or a certain section of a community is
dealing with at the current moment, with legislation. This is an important aspect of
our country because it allows for better results when something goes wrong, in that
the policy makers realize that something is not working, and would create policy in
order to correct the problem. A problem also has a unique definition, when it comes
to policy. A problem is defined as a usually undesirable situation that according to
people or interest groups that can be alleviated by government action (Birkland,
2016). The definition of a problem seems to suggest that the policy makers and the
government taking the necessary measures in order to solve the problem can mitigate
any problem. In this country s history, there have been many problems that the
government tried to resolve with many degrees of success. The Dream act was another
case of a major problem seen by many, which need to be resolved with quick
government action. After defining what a policy is, and what a problem is in a
general sense, we now need to look at what problem the Dream Act, is trying to
resolve in the first place. The main objective of the
Vegan Cinderella Analysis
Vegan Cinderella
Description
In the Netflix original, Easy. Entitled Vegan Cinderella by Joe Swanberg, we see
an honest and visceral depiction of modern young love. There are moments in our
relationships when we lie to our significant others, maybe even change a little bit
of ourselves for them. In this episode, we see a cast of mostly young twenty
something year old lesbian females and follow the two main characters through
the first few days of a budding romance. We hear many awkward conversations
between the two women about veganism and there is a great sense of realism
within the story and the characters. You feel like these women could be any one of
your friends, almost as if you are also there with the characters. I think everyone at
some point in their life has tried to change themselves because they thought it is
necessary in order for the other person to like them. In this episode, we see Chase
try to impress Jo by changing who she is in order to impress her which is something
we all can relate to. Joe Swanberg is known for his indie films and shooting on 16mm
and 35mm film. He also does not write scripts but writes a one page outline where
he has the characters use improvisation to fill in the blanks. He focuses on
naturalism and has little use for doing more than one or two takes. His on set
brevity allows for his films to be shot over the course of just a few weeks which helps
to keep production costs down (Zakarin). The style or genre of this film is
Conservatism Research Paper
Conservation: A Promise Towards Our Society
I believe that the conservatism ideology holds the most promise as a way to organize
a society. After a closer examination, the ideology contains has a more meaningful
insight than merely conserving the current structure and resisting change. Unlike the
connotation of its name, conservatism accepts the idea of change but only if it occurs
at a gradual and consistent pace. Society can progress through change that is gradual
or fragmented but, not through an immediate revolution. For society, this principle
would help advocate policies that produce peace and prosperity rather than violence
and harm that come with revolution. Those feelings of love and morality will bind
members of society together giving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government which emphasizes order, structure, and tradition is seen as a
necessary system to help maintain an ordered community. Conservatives regard an
ordered community and common values as the highest good of society and that
the structure which maintains it should be stable enough to let people know
where they stand with regard to each other (Shivley pg.31). To an anarchist
perspective, government should be decentralized where powers or people would
be redistributed or dispersed away from a central location or authority. Society
would be self made with no top down authority or structure, and there would be
equality in all contexts. Although, if society was to consider the anarchist
perspective and level society to make everyone equal, then we would receive a
mass culture that would be dumbed down (Conservatism Lecture). Those in society
who have their own talents and demonstrate superior abilities would never be
recognized, which is why the concept of equality is both inaccurate and undesirable.
People are not equal in their abilities or value to society because everyone has their
own talents. Those who are more able to contribute to the well being of their
community are deserving of greater roles but even they cannot be trusted to be given
unlimited powers because like all humans they are flawed. In turn, they must also be
The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tillage Farming In...
In Ireland many crops are grown. Most of them are meant to be for family or
animal consumption. Over 300,00 hectares of the best land in Ireland is engaged
in tillage farming. Cereal crops are the main output led by barley, wheat, and oats.
They also produce oilseed rape, maize, sugar beets, beans, peas, and potatoes.
Between 2000 and 2010 Ireland recorded the highest wheat and Barley yields in the
world according to John Spink. Principal crops in 1999 included barley at 1,278,00
tons, sugar beets at 1,712,000 tons, potatoes at 559,000 tons, wheat at 597,000 tons,
and oats at 136,000 tons.Farms that grow cerealcrops are called tillagefarms. The
number of individual farmers growing cereal crops is highest in Cork County.
There are other farms too like fish farms, poultry farms, mushroom, deer, and
christmas tree farms in Ireland. There is also a method called arable farming.
Which seeds that are grown and harvested each year are called arable crops.
Another method is intensive farming. Intensive farming methods mean a lot of food
can be grown on the same amount of land. Most farms in Ireland are mixed farms.
Mixed farms are where the farmers grow crops and raise animals. Maize in Ireland is
mainly grown as a forage crop that is harvested and ensiled for winter for feeding
the livestock on the farm. Some farmers use silage that was harvested and put on the
ground to get silage bales. About 3,326,000 acres of the total area was devoted to
growing crops in 1998.

Robber Barons or Not? The 19th century, the industrial revolution. These were times
times of new manufacturing processes. The time of captains of the industries.
Entrepreneurs, people who organize and operate a business or businesses while

The Importance Of A Health And Safety Executive Inspector
Following on from my role as a Health and Safety Executive inspector in
assignment 1, I have left the HSE to become a director of my own small
engineering manufacturing business (an SME). Unfortunately two of my staff has
been involved in an accident in the workshop area involving a collision with a fork
lift truck. One of my worker s was hospitalized with a foot injury. In this assignment I
will create a case study that links to this scenario by regarding the necessary methods
of reporting and recording of accidents, incidents and near misses.

Recording of accidents, incidents and emergencies
It is important that employers keep a record of any accidents, incidents and
emergencies that have occurred as it is a legal document enforced by RIDDOR. It
provides details such as what caused the injury and who is to blame, this is
especially important if the injury is fatal or serious and allows the employer to
make sure the hazard is sorted out. The report will be sent to the HSE so they can
decide what the risk is, how it happened and if it needs to be investigated by a HSE
inspector. The report is also important if an employee would like to start a law suit
to sue the company so that the exact time and date can be seen and if it links to the
Injury.
Responsibilities of competent persons
A competent person must provide suitable training to starting employees to make sure
they know what they re doing and all the hazards that could occur plus how to
prevent them. Competent
Alopecia Case Studies
I have been treating Evan Daniels since 1998, when I diagnosed him with a severe
case of Alopecia areata multilocularis, comonly known as Alopecia or Alopecia
areata. Alopecia is an autoimmune mutation where the white blood cells deem certain
hair folicles as a virus and proceed to attack them. Regularly, the symptoms of
Alopecia include spots of baldness, white indentions on the fingernails, and lightened
patches of skin. This is usually not a serious disease.
However, in Evan s case, his immune system severely reacts to this mutation,
causing the rest of his body to act as if it is fighting a very severe virus, as a normal
body might react to the flu, or a severe cold. His symptoms include quick, seemingly
random feverish outbreaks, emmense
The Impact Of The Treaty Of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty signed between Germany and the Allies. It was
to stop the war to end all wars (Woodrow Wilson). Every country or colony entered
in this war had suffered immense loss and unbelievable damage to the landscape
where the battle had taken place. The Treaty was meant to finally bring peace to the
world, but instead, it only let more problems arise. Worse ones that certainly had not
been intended for. The Treaty of Versailles
only brought peace for so long, and after
twenty one years, another devastating war had been released on the world.
However, the repercussions are solely because of the Treaty of Versailles, as it put all
of the costs of the war on Germany, including taking responsibility for starting it in
the first place.
As to speak, Germany took the very rough brunt of the war. Including the costs that
Britain didn t want to deal with, and instead passed the blame. Germany was
forced to take responsibility for starting the war and all the losses and casualties to
the Allied Forces. There were also countless other financial weights that they had to
deal with after the treaty was signed. Of course, and with good reason as well, the
German people were outraged by this. The treaty had been written only by the
Allies, and Germany was forced to play under their will if the country didn t want to
be invaded or annexed by the other side. It was a threat they knew would be carried
out. Even to this, Germany suffered great injustice, whether
Vitro Fertilisation ( Ivf ) Essay
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a form of assisted reproduction where the eggs from the
woman are extracted under anaesthetic and placed in a culture dish with thousands
of sperm, allowing the process of fertilisation to take place outside the body. The
resulting embryos are grown in the laboratory over 2 5 days before being transferred
back into the woman s uterus increasing the chance that a pregnancywill occur.
Pre implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a screening test used to determine if
genetic or chromosomal disorders are present in embryos produced through in vitro
fertilization (IVF). Preimplantation genetic diagnosis screens embryos before they
are transferred to the uterus so couples can make informed decisions about their next
steps in the IVF process. Embryos unaffected by the genetic or chromosomal disorder
can be selected for transfer to the uterus.
Why is the use of pre implantation genetic diagnosis a socio scientific issue?
Pre implantation genetic diagnosis is a socio scientific (PGD) issue because it
includes biological and social implications. People have different views and
opinions on PGD because while it can determine whether or not an embryo has a
genetic disease or not, it presents the idea that we are dehumanizing those who
already have these diseases and that we are playing God. PGD gives the opportunity
to couples to select the embryo that they wish to be transferred. It gives them the
option to choose the embryo before becoming

Business Ethics and the 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Essay
Ethics are very important in the business world and to the general public. Ethics is
defined as a system of moral principles or the rules of conduct recognized in respect
to a particular class of human actions or a particular group. Using a moral compass
should be a requirement for every CEO and executive. Any person who will have
some impact on society needs to understand the difference between right and wrong.
Since businesses touch such a large segment of our society, codes of ethics must be
established and followed to protect the general public. In the following pages we will
discuss the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spilldisaster and examine how it relates to (1) the
state of business ethics since 2000, (2) examples of the classic... Show more content

their relationship with public relations.
Business ethics since the beginning of this decade has been slowly eroding; if we
are to believe what we see and hear in the media. Several times a day, one can view
some derogatory piece of information concerning a business. However, it must also be
considered that these companies are contributing to that stigma. There have been a
variety of companies and individuals who have figured prominently in the media
concerning their unethical behavior.
Ethics is defined as a system of moral principles or the rules of conduct recognized
in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group. Ethics and
values are sometimes used interchangeably, but the main goal is to make sure that
one is using a moral compass to help guide in the decision making process. One
individual who figures prominently when it comes to ethics is the veritable Martha
Stewart. Ms. Stewart had to step down from her own company because of
Gregory House Aphorism
House M.D., an American television show that aired from 2004 2012, is a dramatic
series about medical mysteries. The main character of Gregory House, a doctor at
Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, was written based off of the infamous
Sherlock Holmes. House is a genius doctor who specializes in medical mysteries.
During the span of 8 seasons, House, who is accompanied by a varying team of
other doctors, go in search of mysterious unsolved and undiagnosed medical cases.

own intellectual stimulation. House contains a prickly, rude, and sarcastic
personality. This inferiority complex that House has is to help compensate for
years of constant bullying and loneliness because of everyone s jealousy due to
how bright he is. Growing up as a so called army brat , House felt a lack of security

Reasons Why The Treaty Of Versailles Led To World War II
The Treaty of Versailles helped start World War II in many ways. It made Germany
take responsibility for the war. Germany was forced to sign the treaty and if they
didn t they would be invaded. The German leader, Adolf Hitler agree with the Treaty,
but he signed it anyways. Later, the German army invaded Poland, which led to the
start of World War II.в
ЂЁвЂЁOne reason why the Treaty of Versaillesled to World
War II is by forcing Germanyto sign the treaty. The treaty said that Germany had to
pay all damages of the war and pay reparations as well. The citizens of Germany
didn t understand why Hitler signed it. He signed it because Germany would be
invaded if they didn t. This made the Germans mad, which made Adolf Hitlermad as
well. And, this
American Chestnut Research Paper
The American Chestnut and the Functions of Silviculture
It s incredible how many purposes silviculturists have to maintain forests. The main
functions of silviculture include control, protect, facilitate and salvage. Aspects of
these functions can be observed at the Lafayette Field Station among the growing
American chestnut trees. Silviculturists use control to manipulate the growth of
forests for certain benefits. Controlling a forest can be done by altering a tree s genes,
adjusting its sunlight and choosing its surroundings. Some desired outcomes would
be a more diverse forest, trees with certain traits who are better adapted, or to attain a
certain age of trees. The chestnut trees at Lafayette field station were hybridized with

In order to conserve a native species and protect it from extinction, scientists must
battle viruses, unsustainability, invasives etc. that threaten the species. For the
example of the American chestnut, the young chestnuts are growing in gated areas.
This protects them from animals or other intruders that may disturb the chestnuts. The
shelterwoods surrounding the chestnuts also serve as a defense. To facilitate is to
make something easier. In silviculture, this mostly involves regeneration. The
American chestnuts were directly seeded, which certainly facilitated their growth.
The final function of silviculture is to salvage. In order to reap the most benefits of a
forest, it must be maintained sustainably. This, in the long run, is more profitable for
both humans and nature. Many years ago, before the blight affected the American
chestnuts, they were bountiful across the eastern United States. They were greatly
valued for their use in construction. If this new hybridized chestnut is a success, then
perhaps it can be established once again. The American chestnut research being done
at Lafayette seems to have a promising future. The primary functions being used on
the chestnuts is control and protect. Hope for a better future for the American
chestnut has been made possible, thanks to the functions of
Cesar Chavez He Showed Us The Way Analysis
Chavez s Push For Nonviolence Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
Dr. Marin Luther King Jr. In
Dr. Kings life he fought endlessly for what he believes in. He challenged his
followers to do the same when they are faced with an injustice too. During Cesar
Chavez s article he follows the same mindset and believes as MLK and shares the
differences between protesting styles. In an excerpt from He Showed Us The Way ,
Cesar Chavez fights for the push of nonviolence in the listeners mind. In an effort to
share the pain people have when they are victims of violence, Chavez utilizes
pathos. When it comes to violence Chavez doesn t stand down when they ask who
the victims are. Examine history. Who gets killed in the case of violent
revolution? The poor, the workers. By striking pity and making the reader reflect,
Chavez grabs their attention and pulls them in a and lets them relate if they know
or have been victims of violence. Cesar Chavez blames the armed forces for using
weapons and machines for use of violence and calls them out for their ways,
mocking them as they are doing the opposite, and hurting rather than helping. To
call men to arms with many promises, to ask them to give up their lives for a cause
and then not produce for them afterwards, is the most vicious type of oppression.
Chavez mocking the armed forces allows him to show that by that they are doing is
actually the most vicious type of oppression and isn t worth it and needed. Making
Scoob s Poem
Scoob, I love you. Thanks for being one of my best friends on the planet. You were
there for me with a playful wag when I was upset or stoked. You were there through
adolescent heartbreak, teenage angst, through that divorce, when I got my first
guitar, my first car, first drums, first concerts, my braces, your operations in 2007
that cleared my bank accounts. You were there through car accidents and that short
stint when I thought it was cool to dye my hair orange and blue. Remember my
blue, plaid, punk pants? You were a supporting role in all the home movies we
made and listened to me when I tried to learn to sing and write my first songs. You
listened and never judged me through all the best and worst ideas I had. I could go

Transcendentalism In Henry David Thoreau s A Curtain Of
Green
Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life? (Thoreau 6). Society and life
both intertwine and ebb and flow like Ying and Yang, in which one cannot exist
without the influences of the other but still act separately from one other. In Walden,
Henry David Thoreau, a passionate Transcendentalist, and naturalist, delivers a
scathing critique of Western society s obsession with consumerism and materialism
that progresses at the cost of the natural world, including humanity, which he
expresses through his spiritual experiences and oneness with simplicity at Walden
Pond. Eudora Welty, on the other hand, through the emotional grief of Mrs. Larkin in
A Curtain of Green, depicts a rejection of Southern women social obligations and
conventions through her unruly appearance and flawed behavior. Thoreau, while
living off a plot on Emerson s land, forms a Transcendentalist philosophy that guides
his spiritual experiences. Through those experiences, Thoreau launches critical
thoughts on the purposes of institutions and progress in societal and individualistic
affairs. While the expansion of technological innovation, like the railroad, fascinates
Thoreau, he criticizes the application of these advances if they are to destroy man and
nature for a grander capitalist greed. In Where I Lived, and What I Lived For,
Thoreau poses a striking accusation when he states, We do not ride on the railroad; it
rides upon us (Thoreau 5). Thoreau further develops the claim in his antithesis when
he compares the sleepers laid on railroad tracks to the Irish man or Yankee man that
laid the sleepers and died as a result. Throughout the extended metaphor, Thoreau
gives the reader a sense that the preservation of man is for the greater good rather
than turning a blind eye to the damages that progress brings to humanity. That society
cannot allow for institutions, especially industry, to usurp total control of society,
eliminating the individualistic spiritual aspects of man, aspects that are fundamental
to Transcendentalism and Thoreau himself. Earlier in the chapter, Thoreau mounts an
attack against the pettiness of institution, which he expresses through the critique of
the German Confederacy. Thoreau describes
Opium Wars Unfolded And Their Effects On Others
How the Opium Wars Unfolded and Their Effects on Others The Opium wars were
a series of conflicts mainly between China and Britain. The dispute was over the
legalization of the Opium trade. China s people were severely suffering from the
effects of the Opium. Britain had been illegally moving opium from India into China.
A large mass of the public had become addicted to opioids and the government sensed
the problem. Due to the success of the opium trade, Britain refused to stop bringing in
the Opium. The conflict between the two countries sparked the two part Opium Wars.
The first Opium warresulted in many different unsteady treaties, many of which were
seen as unfair to the Chinese. The second Opium Warwas a result of British greed.
The Chinese were preoccupied with the Taiping Rebellion, so the British decided to
take advantage of the situation and push the opium trade further, resulting in
further conflict. The French decided to join the British in the fighting, and the
Chinese were left defeated and forced into negotiations. Both wars resulted in
series of treaties, but each war s treaties had different impacts and affected people
in different ways. After the first Opium War, China had to give up a lot in order to
bring peace with Britain. A series of treaties were signed. The first treaty was signed
in August of 1842 in Nanjing. This treaty was known as the Treaty of Nanjing. There
were many parts to this treaty, but there were zero benefits to China. The
Otto Frank Essay
On Anne Frank s 13th birthday, she received a journal and immediately fell in love
with it. Despite her loving family, numerous companions, and a throng of admirers,
Anne felt that she has no true friends. Thus, Anne wanted the diary to be my friend,
and named it Kitty. Anne dived into her journal by providing a brief description of
her life, including the discriminatory behavior that Jews faced in Amsterdam. A
month later, the Frank familywas shocked when they received a call up notice from
the German SS for Margot (Anne s older sister). Due to the call up, the Frank family
packed hurriedly and left a false note that they would be in Belgium. In actuality, they
hid in a disused laboratory in Otto Franks (Anne s father) office. Otto s coworkers
(Miep and Bep) were aware of the situation and provided food, clothing, and other
necessities. Due to the increase in searches for Jews, Mr. Kugler, one of Otto s
colleagues, installed a bookcase at the entrance of the secret annex.... Show more

and flirting with Otto Frank. During this time, Anne faced the brunt of nitpicking by
the Frank and van Daan family because Margot was considered the perfect child and
Peter van Daan was extremely shy. However, these small squabbles were resolved and
the two families maintained their platonic yet strained relationship. Throughout this
period, Anne began to study various subjects including French, history, and
mathematics. In her journal, Anne delved into various aspects of her daily life,
including the bathing system, food rationing, and current
Breastfeeding Benefits
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) breastfeeding and human
milk have long been concluded as the standard for infant nutrition (Eidelman
Schanler, 2012). There is a disparity on whether mothers should exclusively
breastfeed or bottle feed. This review will further discuss the costs and benefits of
breastfeedingwhen compared to bottle feeding. Additionally, it will examine the
effects on mother infantbonding.
Infants who are not breastfed result in an increased risk for Otitis Media, respiratory
infection, obesity, diabetes, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome also known as SIDS, and
many others (Eidelman Schanler, 2012; Stuebe1 Bonuck, 2011). Mothers also face

however there were no significant differences between breast and bottle feeding
mothers, and no relationship between breastfeeding and infant attachment (2008).
Scientific research does not support the general consensus that breast feeding has
positive effect on the infant mother relationship (Jansen, de Weerth, Riksen

positive effect of breastfeeding, these should be taken into account when deciding on
whether to exclusively breastfeed (Jansen, de Weerth,

When traveling around the world I encounter many different cultures. The

has a major contrast to the United States of America and its citizens. In the United
States courtesy is not a mindset . However, in Aruba there is a level of courtesy
due to citizens mindsets. As I toured Aruba I began to notice that there were no
crosswalks or stoplights, and drivers were stopping in the middle of the street to
allow pedestrians to cross. In contrast, when in America drivers have a tendency to
speed in order to get through a stoplight. Consequently, pedestrians do not receive the

Analysing the Gospel of Mark Essay examples
In this paper, I am writing about the Gospel of Mark. The Gospel of Mark is the
shortest Gospel, but is a really cool one. It covers a lot of key events that happened
during Jesus lifetime. After reading the chapters, we pointed out things that stood out
to us, which we thought were strange or interesting. We also pointed out spiritual
lessons that taught us about our faith. We also wrote down questions that we had
about the material. After reading Mark, chapters one through five, several things
stood out to me. First, when Jesusheals the paralytic that is lowered from the roof in
Mk. 2:11, the healed man doesn t even thank Jesus! He just walked out of the
building and back to his house. This stood out to me because most of the time,...

One question that I had after reading this section was: how did John the Baptist know
that God would be so much mightier than him? How did he recognize Jesus? After
reading Mk. 6 11, several things stood out to me. First, in Mk. 6: 50, when Jesus
walks on water, the disciples are incredibly frightened. They think he is an evil
specter. This stood out to me because the disciples trusted Jesus with their lives, but
when he does something like that, which is beyond their understanding, they freak
out. You would think that with the things that the disciples had seen Jesus do, that
this wouldn t really surprise them. Second, in Mk. 7:1 9 Jesus thought that the
Commandments were more important than tradition, but the Pharisees didn t. This
stood out to me because the Pharisees were supposed to be religious leaders, but in
some cases, seemed to disregard the Commandments in difference to their traditions.
This mainly seemed to come into play with divorce and its rules. Third, in Mk. 10:2
8 Jesus taught that a husband and wife became one flesh. This stood out to me
because I know that a husband and wife are supposed to be close, but Jesus teaches
that they should become one. This has to be awfully hard to achieve because I know
that sometimes a husband and wife have disagreements. The lesson that I learned in
these chapters is that Jesus said, Whatever goes into a man from outside can t defile
him, what comes out of the man defiles him. This shows
##ymbolism In The Jade Peony By Wayson Choy And The
Yellow...
Many people are represented by their environment their surroundings reflect their
physical well beings regardless of its nature. Literature often manipulates this truth in
order
to suggest a deeper meaning behind an otherwise mundane facade. The Jade Peony by
Wayson Choy and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilmanare two
examples of
how symbolism is indicative of a character s physical state. For instance, both the
grandma
and the bamboo shoots in The Jade Peony perish due to cold weather, and the
narrator s
sense of freedom and intellectual activity is epitomized within the moonlight in The
Yellow Wallpaper.
In both short stories, symbolism is used to portray the impending doom on the
characters physical state. This idea is clearly presented in The Yellow Wallpaper
by the image of the bed being nailed down to the ground and how that reflects her
isolation in the room. In the beginning of the story, the narrator despises the room
she is confined in. She is stuck in the room day in and day out all day [she] lies
here on this great immovable bed it is nailed down (p.337). The significance of the
bed being nailed down and immovable plays a great role in the narrator s physical
state: it signifies how the narrator is immovable and can not leave the room. Just
like the bed, the narrator is hypothetically nailed down to the ground, unable to
leave or rather do anything without the permission of her husband. Another
example of this takes place in The Jade Peony with the bamboo shoots dying of the
cold, just like the grandma. The whole household are strong believers of signs, so
after the death of the grandma her son went to her garden to look for a sign. He
then looked at the frost killed shoots and cringed: no, that can not be it (p.109). From
this point on we are given a hint of how the grandma will die, which is an important
detail for further understanding the character s physical state. For instance, while
understanding the cold killing the bamboo shoots, the son then realizes that
something his mother loved and cared for dearly died of the same way. Overall, the
two short stories share the impending doom of the character s physical state through
symbolism. Given
A Brief Note On Cap And Trade System
Cap and Trade A carbon cap and trade system has long been rumored to be in the
offing at the federal level as a way to both reduce emissions and raise revenue for
transit, and transportation, investment. That said, few truly understand how the
proposed system works and how it might impact their community ( An Introduction
to Cap and Trade Programs ). To better understand what is cap and trade, we have to
know why we need to have this system.
A long time ago, cap and trade use to be known as Emissions Trading. Is is a set of
policies that results to a mandatory cap on pollution. Around the world, governments
have successfully worked on this cap and trade system.

The pollutions that are related to carbon cap and trade are the greenhouse and global
warming. The steps of understanding what cap and trade means, is by breaking it
down into two. Cap is a limit that is defined by scientists as the greenhouse gas
emissions; companies have to pay a fine if their emissions are produced over that
limit. The Trade part is a business opportunity for organizations to purchase and
offer stipends that allow them to discharge just a specific sum. Trading gives
organizations a solid motivation to spare cash by cutting pollution. A cap and trade
system is made to manage and reduce the greenhouse gas pollution around the
world. Back then, when the people s living qualities got improved, they never
thought about the results of what they did when they build many factories. The
didn t realize that these factories could have a bad effect on the environment or that
we could drastically affect the world the way it is now. Even now that people have
realized that they are living in a terrible environment, most people still ignore it,
because we are so used to it how we lived before.
Some people now cannot live without certain substances, such as the those who

What Is The Role Of Religious Toleration In Colonial
America
Once the new world was discovered, it took over a century before England
successful began to colonize. When the first town, Jamestown, was established, more
towns sprouted up, and eventually colonies were formed along the Atlantic coast. As
time went on, these colonies could be grouped by regions. The regions of the New
world, though sharing general similarities, had major differences in religion, social
organization, economy and ethnic patterns, which set the path for colonial
sectionalism at the time.
Colonial America, as a whole, was a self governed, religiously tolerant, protestant
area. The colonies became self governed over time. Originally, most came to
America to break free from the Catholic church, but as England loosened its reigns
with the English civil war and other distractions, the people of the colonies made
their own documents and democracies. Though some were Catholic, most people
were some form of Protestant. In the different regions, religious toleration varied to
what religions were acceptable and which were not, but it was an overall concept that
most approved.
The New England region had the least religious toleration, persecuting or exiling
ones who did not share the majority s religion. Calvinism shaped all ways of life in
New England, especially the government and education system. These puritans and
pilgrims were more literate than any other region, and the government was a
theocracy. Their social elite were those who were church members, so non
Worship God Reflection
I stared out at the sunset from my post of land in the woods. The bleeding of reds,
oranges, and pinks together perfectly reflected onto the shimmering lake. My
stomach ached, but the taste of beauty made the pain somewhat bearable. This past
summer, I went on a La Vida trip, where I was required to do a solo experience,
where I was denied food and social interactions for two days. Fasting was proven to
be difficult, but it was through that experience that I began to understand the
concept of giving all yourself in worship to God. Most of my life I was only
familiar with worshiping God with my time, resources, or through song. In
denying myself food, I was shown how to worship God through fasting. From the
lessons I learned at La Vida, my goals for the next four years are to do what Jesus
said in Luke 10:27: to love the Lord (my) God with all (my) heart and with all (my)
soul and with all (my) strength. Over these four years, I plan to worship God
through every aspect of my life, including but not limited to in my academic and
musical pursuits. Through my academics, I hope to be diligent in my pursuit of
knowledge, to grow in my character, and to worship God. In the Liberal Arts for the
Christian Life, Jeffrey C. Davis emphasized that education can be a means of
worshiping the Lord. In all my pursuits of knowledge, I should study as if I m

Solving The Global Energy Crisis
The biggest issues that humans are facing are all related to energy. Energy has
allowed countries to develop into what is now the first world, and has completely
changed almost every aspect of daily life. These same energy sources are now
polluting our environment, and are a frontrunner of causes for climate change. Also
at the same time, a scarcity of available oil, and by extension energy, is a big driver
of poverty, and for armed conflicts, especially wars relating to oil in the Middle East.
Our dependence on oil is a global problem that requires unprecedented international
cooperation. One solution is to make a transition to renewable energy. However, this
is not as simple as just installing new energy power plants. The problems that... Show

First, the energy industry as is the case with any industry is comprised of firms that
have the inherent goal of profit maximization. Profit maximization for the energy
sector entails selling energy with the biggest profit margin possible, something that is
harder to do when the initial cost of the product is raised. From a profit maximizing
perspective, firms have absolutely no incentive to use renewable energy if it costs
more than polluting alternatives. Politicians also have little incentive to slow down
energy production in their countries. Authors Al Mulali and Mohammed (2015) have
shown that there is a bi directional causal relationship between energy consumption
and GDP for wealthier nations, and that third world nations are more dependent on
energy consumption for economic growth. Herein lies the second issue, the
problem of political economy. First world nations used fossil fuels in large part to
attain their elevated standards of living, and third world nations wish to catch up.
The easiest way to catch up, is to burn more fossil fuels, just like the first world did.
First world nations are now trying to cut global emissions, which third world nations
are still very dependent on for their own well being (Figueres 2015). Therefore, third
world politicians must now choose between looking out for their citizens by bringing
up their own countries GDPs, and the greater good, which in this case is battling

Ancient Egyptian Medicine
Egypt contains one of the earliest medical programs in the world. Since 3400 BC,
Egypt has had extremely specialized and diligent physicians, many of whom recorded
their studies in papyri. These same papyri are used today to study Egyptian medical
practices, and they contain information regarding the diseases, treatment, and
prevention. Ancient Egyptian medicinewas the most advanced of their time, for they
were capable of performing surgeries, recorded a vast amount of medical knowledge
on papyri, took steps to prevent disease, and treated ailments with a variety of plants
and medicines.
Knowledge about Egyptian medicine comes from a variety of sources, including the
papyri, the writings of ancient historians, and, of course, the mummies, ... Show more

Because the ancient Egyptians believed that the supernatural caused all injuries and
illnesses, prayer was a common form of medication. Many gods were prayed to,
especially Thoth, both the god of scribes and the doctor to the gods. Isis was also
worshipped for her healing and the Romans later adopted her. Sekhmet, the
goddess of healing and medicine, was prayed to frequently as well. Healers were
represented by a statue of the official Yuny, who was a priest of Sekhmet (Allen,
James P.). Exorcism rituals were also practiced, mostly for mental issues. Vile
tasting medicines were often used in these processes, usually foul tasting plants
with the excreta of animals (Di Stefano, Vincent). The priests and physicians
would often chant incantations and wave around sticks to drive out the spirit (
Ancient Egyptian Medicine ). In the Hearst Papyrus, written in 1450, there is a
spell for the cure of Asiatics. It reads: Who is all knowing like Re? Who is thus all
knowing? This god who blackens the body with char coal? May this Highest god be
seized! ( Ancient Egyptian Medicine in Sickness and in Health: Preventative and
Curative Health Care ). Most physicians in Egypt were men, and all of them studied
at the House of Life. Physicians in Egypt were extremely specialized. Herodotus said
in Histories 2.84, The practice of medicine is very specialized among them. Each
physician treats just one disease. Throughout the specialization, the jobs varied from
preventing diseases to the inspection of sacrificial animals to veterinary medicine (
Ancient Egyptian Medicine in Sickness and in Health: Preventative and Curative
Health Care ). The best doctors were in the royal court, then the inspectors who
supervised the physicians, and the the actual physicians (Nordqvist, Christian). The
knowledge that accompanied physicians was viewed
What Are The Actions Of Lieutenant Jimmy Cross
Although there are many things that are unknown about Lieutenant Jimmy cross.
Readers do know that Lieutenant cross is a complexed man with complicated
feeling about love and war. For an example, Lieutenant Jimmy cross uses the love
that he has for Martha as an escape from the war. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross sacrifices
Lavender s life due to the fact that he was madly in lovewith Martha and was blinded.
LieutenantJimmy cross came to reality about his actions after he lost his friend during
the warbecause of his negligence. The actions of Lieutenant Jimmy cross show that
he has lost reality because of love and war these became the burdens that he carried.
BabkovГЎ DurdiakovГЎ states that secondary love is obsessive behavior also
known as mania. (BabkovГЎ DurdiakovГЎ 695 703). Readers will agree that
Lieutenant Jimmy cross was obsessed with Martha because of the thing he said and
does. For an example, He would imagine romantic camping trips into the White
Mountains in New Hampshire. He would sometimes taste the envelope flaps,
knowing her tongue had been there. (par.1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When Cross burned Martha pictures and letters he was hoping for it to provide
him some emotional relief but it didn t. Readers can tell from reading this story
that cross has a love hate relationship with Martha. However, the hate didn t grow
until his lost Lavender. He loves her because he wanted to build a special
connection with her. Yet, he hates her because to readers he only wonders if Martha
is a virgin. Towards the end of the story, Cross starts to be honest with him. Cross
states, Henceforth when he thought about Martha, it would be only to think that she
belongs elsewhere. He would shut down the daydreams. This was not Mount
Sebastian, it was another world, where there were no pretty poems or midterm
exams, a place where men died because of carelessness and gross
Heterogeneous Ribonucleic Proteins ( Hnrnps )
Heterogeneous ribonucleic proteins (HNRNPs) are a family of RNA binding
proteins that play a key role in various metabolic functions of RNA. There are
roughly twenty major hnRNPs which are readily found in large quantities in the
nucleus and in some cases in the cytoplasm. hnRNPs are expressed throughout all
tissues at different levels depending on the hnRNP (Kamma et al. 1994). hnRNP
metabolic roles include polyadanilation, shuttling mRNA out of the nuclear envelope,
telomere biogenesis and localization. (Dreyfuss et al. 2002). In particular, hnRNP A1
can acts an an antagonist to the SF2/ASF protein, which allows A1 to inhibitor exon
splicing and cytoplasm bound transport of mRNA. An example of localization is
hnRNP A2, which confers the dendritic mRNA transport of various transcripts when
induced by neuronal activity (Muslimov et al. 2002).
Role of hnRNP A2/B1
Brain plasticity and learning such as BDNF driven long term synaptic potentiation
rely partly on the shuttling and translation of dendritic mRNAs. Large messenger
RNA binding proteins such as hnRNP A2/B1 carry inactive dendrite bound mRNA
via the microtubule cytoskeleton where they will be translated when they are
activated at the synapse (Leal et al. 2014). Brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF)
and increased neuronal activity has shown to regulate the distribution of A2/B1.
Particularly an increase in BDNF rises the tendency of cytoplasmic and and dendritic
localization. Some key protein transcripts carried by
Bob Marley Get USand Up Analysis
Standing up for what you think is right and just, against several people who don t
think the same is usually nerve wracking and not as easy as one might think; yet in
Bob Marley s song Get Up Stand Up, he makes you feel like anyone can do it just
simple as that. Get Up Stand Up immediately beams that sense of fighting
empowerment and doing what is right. Much of Marley s inspiration for the song
stems from his Jamaican childhood and growing up in a place filled with oppression
and very little rights for their religion, which he expresses that he doesn t want
anyone else to go through. Through this song, Marley gives those who feel they don t
have a voice, strong and influential inner empowerment in hopes that they find their
voice and use it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marley seems to feel that in Christianity, there is an overwhelming sense of the
people following a certain preacher/priest and much of the religion has just been
forced upon them through these figures preacher man, don t tell me . This is also
shown through the verse, Most people think, Great God will come from the skies ,
because we are told that God is in the sky and in heaven then that is what we
believe and will follow for the rest of our lives and Marley does not hold that to be
true. He is in clear opposition with the fact that Christians believe in a heaven and
a hell don t tell me heaven is under the earth his use of don t delivers a very
argumentative tone and sense that Marley has his own views and won t fall to
these. There is an incorporation of his own views in Rastafarianism of who God is
in his eyes, we all know when we understand / almighty God is a living man ,
completely contradicting the Christianity beliefs that God has passed an is in the
sky waiting for us when we pass. Peter Tosh who wrote the song along with Marley
had a contrasting view on the religious aspect. Peter believes that his God is a
living man and not someone that is up in the sky, it s evident in the lyrics almighty
God is a living man and that his grand idea of heaven does not involve angels or the
sky with bright clouds and
Yixing Teapots During The Late-Ming Dynasty
Shi s relationship with Xu s family represented an important phenomenon in the
development of Yixing teapots during the late Ming dynasty. Some scholar official
tea connoisseurs passionately invited Yixing potters to their household, in which
Yixing potters continuously making teapots under the patronage of scholar official
families, similar to the interaction between the Wu family of Yixing and their
servant Gong Chun. Art historians have illustrated the lives of some Ming
professional painters whose livelihood depended largely upon commissions from
their patrons. For example, painter Qiu Ying (1494 1552), known today as one of
the Four Great Masters of the Ming dynasty, had at least three patrons in whose
houses he lived and worked

He stated that strategies differentiate within an individual and that a person can use
a variety of strategies to achieve his or her goal. Oxford (as cited in Oxford, 2003,
p.8) defined strategies as follows: The word strategies comes from the ancient Greek
word strategia, which means steps or actions taken for the purpose of winning a war.
The warlike meaning of strategia, has fortunately fallen away but the control and
directedness remains in the version of the word. He believed that whether a strategy
is helpful or not depends on the specific context in which it is appropriately used. In
order to use a strategy effectively, learners have to consider three important
conditions: whether the strategy relates well to the second language task at hand,
whether the strategy fits the particular students learning style preferences to one
degree or another, or whether the students employ the strategy and link it with other
strategies well.
II. 2. Distinction between Strategies and Skills
Strategies can be defined as conscious actions that learners take to achieve desired
goals or objectives, while a skill is a strategy that has become automatic. As learners
consciously learn and practice specific reading strategies, the strategies move from
conscious to unconscious; from strategy to skill (Nunan, 2003). Strategic reading is
defined as the ability of the reader

Mussolini s Popular Advantage

During his campaign for power, Benito Mussolini once stated My objective is
simple. I want to make Italy great, respected and feared. This phrase is commonly
attributed to Mussolini because he was known to have the set mentality of
superiority, and would stop at nothing to restore Italy to its prestigious position; as it
held during the Renaissance period and the ancient Roman Empire. The ancient
Roman Empire was a success on many levels, making Italy a central power of the
Earth. Italy is also famous for The Renaissance period and it s totally new take on the

Support for Fascism skyrocketed after the events at Versailles unfolded and Orlando
proved to be an incompetent leader. For centuries, Rome had been the most feared
empire on the planet. Their army was mammoth and they had seemingly endless
tactics. Along with the strategies of the army came their bounty of resources as a
result of their prime European location. They were the powerhouse of the world.
They were unstoppable. The Renaissance, a time of emerging art styles and forms,
originated from northern Italy. Everyone across Europe participated in the arts craze.
Aspiring painters, sculptors, and architects came to Italy to study artists work and
then brought what they learned back to their home countries. The years after the
Renaissance were not Italy s best, as England and the United States consistently beat
out Italy in rankings of influence. Under Orlando s command, there were no
exceptions to this. Yet, the promise Benito Mussolini provided to the people acted as
a glimmer of hope; which was exactly what they
Monocular Cues
Everyday we see how the world around us is constantly changing. But how do our
eyes see the world three dimensionally? Simple, our eyes us binocular and
monocular cues that we are able to perceive depth. Binocular cues requires both of
our eyes, while monocular cues only require one. An example of binocular cues
would be binocular disparity, basically referring to the two different views you get
of the world from each eye. If you were to cover up your left eye, you would get a
slightly different image than if you were to cover your right eyes. Looking at the
photo below, you could simply use monocular cues to perceive depth. Using
interposition, you would notice that the tree, the bench and the flowers are all in front
of the building. Therefore,
The De Beers Mining Company And The Attawapiskat
Community
The most important actors in the negotiation are the De Beers Mining Company and
the Attawapiskat community that lives in the area. Some other actors that may
make an impact during the negotiation can include the provincial government of
Ontario, and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society s Wildlands League. They
are all needed to understand the main actors, which are the DeBeers Company as
well as the aboriginal community, as they can help explain the context of what is
happening and why each demand is necessary in the negotiation. Negotiations are a
game of chess and in order to win you need to have a good strategy and trying to
counter each other moves in order to become successful. It should also be noted that

As it was stated, DeBeers was attempting to mislead the public by only providing
information about certain water sources that they did not contaminate, but decided to
hide information about the ones that had various chemicals in them that were
released. (Bridge, 2016) This is quite concerning as mercury and methylmercury,
which is a relative to mercury are both highly toxic, and can both pose a danger to
not only the animals, fish and vegetation in the area, but humans as well if it builds
up in the waterways. Their reports can be used not only with the Ontario government,
but with the company as well showing that they previously did not follow their
agreements, allowing the community to have a stronger voice during the negotiation
process.
It should be noted that the Ontario government requested the company to self monitor
itself and report on the mercury and methylmercury levels near the open pit Victor
mine, but the Wildlands League reports otherwise and this is a concern for the
community these events can happen in their area as well. This also raises concerns
with the government failing to provide proper oversight on the company s operations.
If the government sees that DeBeers did not follow their previous agreement that
they signed then this will mean stricter rules and oversight on the company. Plus
there will be harsher fines if they do not follow.
Starting Position and Reasoning

had died on the date 9th of September 1087. William had been aged 58 59, and died
in Rove France. Williams s death was not very significant because he died of old
age on his way to a battle. Also at the same time William the conquerors death was
significant because he had died still remaining as king of England, so lots of people
would have attended the ceremony for him. This would be because William was
the most significant person in England because of his high role in society. Williams

The Battle of Hastings took place on Senlac Hill. Senlac Hill is located 7 miles or

its name from. The battle took place on the 14th of October 1066. The battle of
Hastings had been fought from 9 in the morning until dusk. The battle had lasted
approximately lasted 9 to 10 hours. This was because William the conqueror was
getting rid of the troops that are left fighting for King Harold himself. The battle of
Hastings was fought by the Normans and the English. The army sizes were around
5000 to 7000 people on each side with each person armed with armour, swords,
shields and many more weapons (figure 2). People know what happened at the
battle of Hastings because it was recorded on the Bayeux Tapestry (figure 3) by his
son William 2. The battle of Hastings was an important event because it was a
battle on who would be king of England. William 1 and Harold 2 went to battle with
each other because they both wanted to be king of England. After the battle between
William and Harold, William had come out on top and was crowned king of
England. (Year
House On Mango Street Analysis
(hook) Written by Sandra Cisneros, The House on Mango Street is a beautiful
coming of age story from the perspective of a little Latina girl named Esperanza
Cordero, who has just moved to a new house on Mango Street with her family. The
story follows Esperanza and the people she encounters during her time on Mango
Street as she struggles to find herself as an individual/her identity. During the story,
Esperanzadiscovers how her culture and social class affects her, how she relates to
the roles of womenin her community, and how to process her hopes and dreams as
she matures. These pieces eventually come together in order to help Esperanza
form her identity. The shabby old house on Mango Street is all that Esperanza and
her family can afford at the moment, as they are very poor. Esperanza is happy that
her family owns a house, but she often feels ashamed and embarrassed to live in it.
For example, one day, a nun that passes by asks Esperanza where she lives. When
she points to her house, the nun asks, You live there? The way she [says] it
[makes] [her] feel like nothing. There. [she] lived there. [She] [nods]. (1.10) The
way that the nun says the word there makes Esperanza feel very small, like there is
something wrong with the house. Not only does Esperanza feel judged by people in
her community, she also feels judged by outsiders. Those who don t know any better
come into our neighborhood scared. They think we re dangerous. They think we will
attack them with shiny

Racism Essays

  • 1. Racism Essays Writing an essay on the topic of racism is a challenging endeavor that demands a nuanced understanding of the subject matter. The complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of racism, involving historical, social, economic, and psychological dimensions. Addressing such a sensitive and pervasive issue requires careful research, empathy, and a commitment to presenting a comprehensive view. Firstly, delving into the historical roots of racism involves navigating through centuries of systemic discrimination, prejudice, and injustice. This requires extensive reading and critical analysis to trace the evolution of racist ideologies and their impact on different communities. Understanding the socio-economic factors that contribute to the perpetuation of racism further adds to the difficulty, as it necessitates a grasp of complex societal structures and power dynamics. Moreover, discussing contemporary manifestations of racism demands staying abreast of current events and societal shifts. This involves engaging with a wide range of sources to capture the evolving nature of racial prejudices, discrimination, and resistance movements. Crafting a well- informed essay requires not only identifying patterns and trends but also addressing the intersectionality of racism with other forms of oppression. Attempting to unravel the psychological aspects of racism poses its own set of challenges. It involves exploring the deep-seated biases and prejudices that exist on an individual level and examining how these attitudes contribute to broader systemic issues. Tackling this aspect requires a delicate balance between academic rigor and a sensitive exploration of personal experiences. In conclusion, writing an essay on racism necessitates a comprehensive understanding of its historical roots, contemporary manifestations, socio-economic implications, and psychological dimensions. It is a task that demands meticulous research, critical thinking, and a commitment to fostering understanding. Despite its difficulty, addressing racism in written form contributes to the ongoing dialogue for societal change and equality. Working Capital Simulation Managing Growth Case Study Working Capital Simulation: Managing Growth FIN/571 October 13, 2014 William Stokes Working Capital Simulation: Managing Growth The Corporate Finance course has helped me, as a student, gain intelligence to make informed decisions upon analyzing the details for Sunflower Nutraceuticals (SNC). These decisions will influence the company s overall growth annually. In addition to various details of the SNC Company I have also made various decisions in each of the phases of SNC s simulation which has an estimated values to figure out the results. This paper also explains how SNC s decisions are influenced with regards to the working capital followed with the final step of evaluating the general affects associated with the limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This decision increased SNC s EBIT by approximately 200,000. Although SNC s sales and EBIT figures increased, their net working capital and profit margins will remain at current figures. Additionally, acquiring Atlantic Wellness as a client will help increase SNC s sales significantly but will sacrifice portions of inventory and accounts receivable. Because of their current cash position SNC must keep a minimum of $3 on hand to meet their company s operational needs therefore sacrificing portions of inventory and accounts receivable may not be a good idea. However, there is a positive for SNC. The risk of inventory and accounts receivable can be equalized by negotiating a profitable deal with merchant Ayurveda Natural. II. Leverage Supplier Discount SNC accepts the Atlantic Wellness contract allowing them to increase company sales. In addition to the contract with Atlantic Wellness, SNC also considers the acceptance of Ayurveda Naturals with the contract offer which is favorable to SNC because payment terms reflect a net gain. III. Tightening Receivable Accounts Super Sports Centers accounts for 20% of SNC s sales figures. However, Super Sports Centers takes the approximately 200 days to pay their accounts with SNC which is well above the normal 90 day average. To resolve this issue, SNC
  • 3. Thomas Stearns Eliot, Or T.S. Eliot, Was Born In 1888 On Thomas Stearns Eliot, or T.S. Eliot, was born in 1888 on the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout his life, Eliot wrote and published several pieces of writing that are highly regarded and still studied in the world of literature today. Eliot was an American British author, critic, playwright, and poet. After attending Smith Academy, and Milton Academy, he went on to graduate in just 3 years at Harvard University. He also got his masters and did doctoral work. He attended Oxford, but ultimately left for England after a short amount of time. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrockattracted the most attention out of all of Eliot s poems. Just some of the many techniques used throughout the whole passage are dramatic monologue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eliot also uses figures of speech in this passage to establish the theme of death. Eliot described the afternoon as spread out against the sky like a patient etherized upon a table. (Eliot 2) in the beginning of the passage, he is describing the sky as a patient on an operating table under anesthesia. Again, in a later stanza, he says it sleeps so peacefully! Smoothed by long fingers, asleep ... tired ... or it malingers, stretched on the floor. (Eliot 75 78). This metaphor is being echoed through the passage, presenting an eerie and dark setting. This relates directly back to the reoccurring theme of death and isolation with his use of fearsome imagery. He obscures the long description of the sky using fragmentation, breaking up the different images into smaller parts and placing them in different stanzas in the passage. Another figure of speech used is personification. The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window panes. (Eliot 15) Eliot uses personification to turn the yellow fog into a fearful and timid cat, which represents the fear in Prufrock, and helps indicate the theme of doubt that we see frequently when he tries to make decisions. A technique that frequently
  • 4. Narrative Essay On Riding A Bike I rushed down the road; my chubby cheeks jiggling as the wind blew swiftly onto my face. I felt like even Usain Bolt himself wouldn t have been able to accelerate at the astonishing speeds I was going. Suddenly, once my father decided let go of my shoulders, I found myself spiraling down a hill uncontrollably. I grabbed the handlebars firmly as I screamed towards the heavens at the top of my lungs. My feet flailing around whilst attempting to scour for the pedals. Seconds later, I found myself crashing onto the side of the road, looking as though I had just challenged Evander Holyfieldto a twelve round fistfight. At that moment, I had decided, with the firm resolve of a fickle minded ten year old kid, to never ridea bike again. Riding a bike has always been one of my greatest challenges of my young life. It was a childhood dream of mine to be able successfully ride the green Cannondale Hybrid I had seen in an episode of Tony Hawk s trick moves displayed on television. In order to achieve this wish of mine, I painstakingly walked seven miles all around my neighborhood to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, to my surprise, it was quite hard to ride a bike. It took longer than I realized to perform tricks I had seen the masters like Tony Hawk execute, and even longer to simply manage to turn around corners. I was determined to become the best at controlling that two wheeled vehicle. Although, after a certain traumatic fiasco which lead to my very first visit to the operating room, I decided to lay the bike riding dream of mine to a rest and pursue some other passions that didn t involve me rolling down a slope at 20 miles per hour. Despite this, I knew that a measly broken limb wasn t going to be able to hinder my journey of discover the things around my
  • 5. Belonging The concept of belonging is essential. To belong is to form a connection which will allow a sense of identity, without this we lose our humanity; however, conformity is in a sense a facade of belonging, as it restrains our freedom and forces us to only mimic. My studied texts show how society demands us to conform, yet conformity prevents a sense of true identity being ever created. This notion is elaborated in the novel, A Clockwork Orange. Alex is a criminal who doesn t belong anywhere within society. In the novel, the government attempts to suppress his criminality by physically preventing him from thinking of violence thus making him conform to their standards. This is a prime example of how society attempts to make us conform to what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movie shows the disastrous effect conformity and fear have among members who gain their place inside the group at the price of conformity. Shirley Hastings, for example, lives a life half lived cowering before what Barry Fife will say or think. She has let the Federation so dominate her that she has no respect for Doug and can only see her son Scott in terms of winning competitions. The movie represents belonging using a variety of techniques to distinguish between the world of artifice and the more realistic world. The image of the artificial world, shown as the ballroom world, is glitzy and colourful. Luhrmann has presented this world as having power, whereas the character of Fran, shown in plain clothes and reading glasses, is initially shown as powerless, because she does not conform to the ballroom world. The movie traces the shift from a world of false belonging dominated by conformity, fear and the cynical manipulations of the ultra sleaze Barry Fife, towards the iconic last scene where the line between spectators and professional dancers blurs and is dissolved as Scott dressed in Spanish costume and Fran in Spanish style red dress put passion back into dance, rescuing it from the deadening effect of the old brigade. Taking the similes of the two texts we can arrive at the conclusion that conformity allows us to become part of a functioning society but can in turn stifle individuality, expression and self identity. I ll leave you with two
  • 6. Determining The Ph Of Household Items Determining the pH of Household Items March 22, 2016: Sara, Sam Introduction: Everyday household items can be seen as just household items . However, it is often not realized that we could actually determine the pH very easily. It could also be important to know the pH in everyday life. For example, it is important to keep track of human pH levels. Some people are curious to see the pH of their own body, which is a great use to keep acidic levels leveled. Another use in real life is determining the pH of pools. Whether it s your own or a public pool, pH indicators come in hand to make sure the pool is sanitary and safe. pH indicators are indicators that contain halochromic synthetic compound which is added to a solution so that it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example would be pure water. Most of the time the pH is determined by pH paper but there are also other ways to determine the pH. For example, in this lab, cabbage juice was used. Cabbage juice is a great pH indicator because it can be homemade and easy to access. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this experiment is to use both cabbage juice and pH paper to determine the pH of household items. This way, we can tell which products are basic and which one are acidic. If we use cabbage juice as an universal pH indicator by comparing it to pH paper then pH determined by the cabbage juice will be unstable because by using cabbage juice, it can be different depending on how diluted it is. List of Materials needed: 1 drop bottle of cabbage juice Beakers (depending on how many items) pH paper Spot plate(s) Household products (Dish detergent, coffee, laundry detergent, milk, tap water, etc) Procedure: 1.In order to find the pH of each household item by using pH paper, the pH paper was placed on the drop plate. Repeat these steps for the other products. 2.The second step in this lab is to use

Kennedy: compared lives and deaths November 22, 1963, Dallas Texas, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy rode along the streets of Dallas, Texas in an open top motorcade. The president s vehicle turns onto ELM ST. passing the Texas School Book Depository. When the limousine turned onto ELM ST. Nellie Connally turned to look at President Kennedy and said, You sure cant say that Dallas doesn t love you, Mr. President. Ironically, a few moments later President Kennedy was shot, and the waving stopped. The cheering turned into panic. Fear and confusion filled the eyes of everyone. A similar thing happened to his brother Robert (Bobby) Francis Kennedy. On June 5, 1968, after RFK won the Democratic primary in California, an assassin or multiple ones shot RFK as he passed through the pantry of the Ambassador Hotel. The two brothers died in their strive to change the world through politics. However, their deaths were not mere coincidences or random acts of violence. The two assassinations contained a history and events that led up to the deaths. May 29, 1917 John Fitzgerald Kennedy emerged into the world to a wealthy and politically prominent family in Brookline, Massachusetts. John, much like his family, had high intellect in many fields including politics. He graduated with a high honors degree from Harvard University in international ... Kennedy was shot multiple times, but based on one video recording and the autopsy, all of the bullet wounds could not have come from the depository. John F. Kennedy was hit four times in fact. One of the shots came from in front. Oswald was in the back right of the motorcade. RFK had a similar case. Robert had a wound that would ve occurred from behind, but Sirhan was always in front. Both cases seem to support the possibilities that there were other

To determine if the minimum legal drinking age should be set at 18 or 21 there is many barriers to surpass, Their main limitation is that the correlation between alcohol consumption and adverse events imitation is that the correlation between alcohol consumption and adverse events is probably due in part to factors other than alcohol consumption due to the fact that to analyze the correct drinking age will have to involve many discrepancies due to physical and culture wise, as the fact that studies involving underaged drinking will have to be done. The business cycle for the Automotive Industry is filled with long product cycles and large sums of capital investments. The long cycles of products and the large capital requirements make planning in the automotive industry quite complex. Furthermore, the automotive industry outcomes are highly dependent on the global economic state. For example, as mentioned in a PWC article, In 2015, [Automotive industry results] turned sour as global economic conditions worsened. This trend makes any new commitment to invest in a country or region a risky one that must be deliberately crafted using a clear eyed assessment of market conditions. (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016) Thus, from the business cycle, it can be presumed that the automotive industry is foremost a growth industry but at a secondary level it is a cyclical growth, making it a Cyclical Growth Industry. Potentials for the automotive industry are more prominent in eco friendly initiatives and technological improvements for vehicular automation. For example, Tesla has been a company that has really sought to revolutionize the automotive industry by introducing cars that are more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, as mentioned, in a PWC article, the intelligent car is fast moving from the drawing boards to the streets (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016). This intelligent car, while

Kant’s Practical Imperative in the Film The Insider Essay This principle is referred to as Kant s practical imperative and is an important principle for an ethical system which says that each human being is an end in himself or herself. No human being should be thought of or used merely as a means for someone else end. Dr. Jeffrey Wigand the main protagonist of The Insiderportrays himself to be a conflicted individual as he makes decisions throughout the movie. Against an undetermined future, he ruminates about what he knows is right for example, receiving threats, the phone ringing at odd hours. Lowell knows the extent of the pleasure, but not the pain. The benefits of his encouragement would uphold the honor of 60 minutes and CBS news, protecting the public against harm. The disadvantages and the cost would result in Wigand and his family losing all benefits from the agreement. The possible lawsuit faced against CBS and damages to the tobacco industry and its employees. If he does not encourage Wigand, its just result in vice versa, he would receive the benefits and the tobacco industry and employees are protected. It would costs harm to public if they do not know the truth. In conclusion it can be seen that both Wigand and Bergman used each other as means to one anothers end. Not actually being in his position it would be difficult to decide to what my actual emotions would be, based on the fact that I would be putting my family in danger to protect the public. I would have probably done the same as it would be my moral obligation and the right thing to do. Kant s duty based ethics says that some acts are wrong or right because of the things or situations that are related and people have a duty to act in accordance, regardless of the good or bad consequences that may be produced. Policy is best defined as a statement by the government of what it intends to do such as law, regulation, or decision about a specific problem (Birkland, 2016). This definition about policy seems to say, that a policy tries to combat or resolve an underlining problem that a community, or a certain section of a community is dealing with at the current moment, with legislation. This is an important aspect of our country because it allows for better results when something goes wrong, in that the policy makers realize that something is not working, and would create policy in order to correct the problem. A problem also has a unique definition, when it comes to policy. A problem is defined as a usually undesirable situation that according to people or interest groups that can be alleviated by government action (Birkland, 2016). • 14. Vegan Cinderella Analysis Vegan Cinderella Description In the Netflix original, Easy. Entitled Vegan Cinderella by Joe Swanberg, we see an honest and visceral depiction of modern young love. There are moments in our relationships when we lie to our significant others, maybe even change a little bit of ourselves for them. In this episode, we see a cast of mostly young twenty something year old lesbian females and follow the two main characters through the first few days of a budding romance. We hear many awkward conversations between the two women about veganism and there is a great sense of realism within the story and the characters. You feel like these women could be any one of your friends, almost as if you are also there with the characters. I think everyone at some point in their life has tried to change themselves because they thought it is necessary in order for the other person to like them. In this episode, we see Chase try to impress Jo by changing who she is in order to impress her which is something we all can relate to. Joe Swanberg is known for his indie films and shooting on 16mm and 35mm film. He also does not write scripts but writes a one page outline where he has the characters use improvisation to fill in the blanks. He focuses on naturalism and has little use for doing more than one or two takes. His on set brevity allows for his films to be shot over the course of just a few weeks which helps to keep production costs down (Zakarin). The style or genre of this film is

Government which emphasizes order, structure, and tradition is seen as a necessary system to help maintain an ordered community. Conservatives regard an ordered community and common values as the highest good of society and that the structure which maintains it should be stable enough to let people know where they stand with regard to each other (Shivley pg.31). To an anarchist perspective, government should be decentralized where powers or people would be redistributed or dispersed away from a central location or authority. Society would be self made with no top down authority or structure, and there would be equality in all contexts. Although, if society was to consider the anarchist perspective and level society to make everyone equal, then we would receive a mass culture that would be dumbed down (Conservatism Lecture). Those in society who have their own talents and demonstrate superior abilities would never be recognized, which is why the concept of equality is both inaccurate and undesirable. People are not equal in their abilities or value to society because everyone has their own talents. The Treaty was meant to finally bring peace to the world, but instead, it only let more problems arise. Worse ones that certainly had not been intended for. The Treaty of Versailles only brought peace for so long, and after twenty one years, another devastating war had been released on the world. However, the repercussions are solely because of the Treaty of Versailles, as it put all of the costs of the war on Germany, including taking responsibility for starting it in the first place. As to speak, Germany took the very rough brunt of the war. Including the costs that Britain didn t want to deal with, and instead passed the blame. Germany was forced to take responsibility for starting the war and all the losses and casualties to the Allied Forces. There were also countless other financial weights that they had to deal with after the treaty was signed. Of course, and with good reason as well, the German people were outraged by this. The treaty had been written only by the Allies, and Germany was forced to play under their will if the country didn t want to be invaded or annexed by the other side. It was a threat they knew would be carried out. Even to this, Germany suffered great injustice, whether

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis screens embryos before they are transferred to the uterus so couples can make informed decisions about their next steps in the IVF process. Embryos unaffected by the genetic or chromosomal disorder can be selected for transfer to the uterus. Why is the use of pre implantation genetic diagnosis a socio scientific issue? Pre implantation genetic diagnosis is a socio scientific (PGD) issue because it includes biological and social implications. People have different views and opinions on PGD because while it can determine whether or not an embryo has a genetic disease or not, it presents the idea that we are dehumanizing those who already have these diseases and that we are playing God. The shelterwoods surrounding the chestnuts also serve as a defense. To facilitate is to make something easier. In silviculture, this mostly involves regeneration. • 31. Transcendentalism In Henry David Thoreau s A Curtain Of Green Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life? (Thoreau 6). Society and life both intertwine and ebb and flow like Ying and Yang, in which one cannot exist without the influences of the other but still act separately from one other. In Walden, Henry David Thoreau, a passionate Transcendentalist, and naturalist, delivers a scathing critique of Western society s obsession with consumerism and materialism that progresses at the cost of the natural world, including humanity, which he expresses through his spiritual experiences and oneness with simplicity at Walden Pond. Eudora Welty, on the other hand, through the emotional grief of Mrs. Larkin in A Curtain of Green, depicts a rejection of Southern women social obligations and conventions through her unruly appearance and flawed behavior. Thoreau, while living off a plot on Emerson s land, forms a Transcendentalist philosophy that guides his spiritual experiences. Through those experiences, Thoreau launches critical thoughts on the purposes of institutions and progress in societal and individualistic affairs. While the expansion of technological innovation, like the railroad, fascinates Thoreau, he criticizes the application of these advances if they are to destroy man and nature for a grander capitalist greed. In Where I Lived, and What I Lived For, Thoreau poses a striking accusation when he states, We do not ride on the railroad; it rides upon us (Thoreau 5). Thoreau further develops the claim in his antithesis when he compares the sleepers laid on railroad tracks to the Irish man or Yankee man that laid the sleepers and died as a result. Throughout the extended metaphor, Thoreau gives the reader a sense that the preservation of man is for the greater good rather than turning a blind eye to the damages that progress brings to humanity. That society cannot allow for institutions, especially industry, to usurp total control of society, eliminating the individualistic spiritual aspects of man, aspects that are fundamental to Transcendentalism and Thoreau himself. Earlier in the chapter, Thoreau mounts an attack against the pettiness of institution, which he expresses through the critique of the German Confederacy. Thoreau describes

After reading Mk. 6 11, several things stood out to me. First, in Mk. 6: 50, when Jesus walks on water, the disciples are incredibly frightened. They think he is an evil specter. This stood out to me because the disciples trusted Jesus with their lives, but when he does something like that, which is beyond their understanding, they freak out. You would think that with the things that the disciples had seen Jesus do, that this wouldn t really surprise them. Second, in Mk. 7:1 9 Jesus thought that the Commandments were more important than tradition, but the Pharisees didn t. This stood out to me because the Pharisees were supposed to be religious leaders, but in some cases, seemed to disregard the Commandments in difference to their traditions. This mainly seemed to come into play with divorce and its rules. Third, in Mk. 10:2 8 Jesus taught that a husband and wife became one flesh. This stood out to me because I know that a husband and wife are supposed to be close, but Jesus teaches that they should become one. This has to be awfully hard to achieve because I know that sometimes a husband and wife have disagreements. The lesson that I learned in these chapters is that Jesus said, Whatever goes into a man from outside can t defile him, what comes out of the man defiles him. This shows

This idea is clearly presented in The Yellow Wallpaper by the image of the bed being nailed down to the ground and how that reflects her isolation in the room. In the beginning of the story, the narrator despises the room she is confined in. She is stuck in the room day in and day out all day [she] lies here on this great immovable bed it is nailed down (p.337). The significance of the bed being nailed down and immovable plays a great role in the narrator s physical state: it signifies how the narrator is immovable and can not leave the room. Just like the bed, the narrator is hypothetically nailed down to the ground, unable to leave or rather do anything without the permission of her husband. Another example of this takes place in The Jade Peony with the bamboo shoots dying of the cold, just like the grandma. The whole household are strong believers of signs, so after the death of the grandma her son went to her garden to look for a sign. He then looked at the frost killed shoots and cringed: no, that can not be it (p.109). From this point on we are given a hint of how the grandma will die, which is an important detail for further understanding the character s physical state. For instance, while understanding the cold killing the bamboo shoots, the son then realizes that something his mother loved and cared for dearly died of the same way. Overall, the two short stories share the impending doom of the character s physical state through symbolism. Given

A Brief Note On Cap And Trade System Cap and Trade A carbon cap and trade system has long been rumored to be in the offing at the federal level as a way to both reduce emissions and raise revenue for transit, and transportation, investment. That said, few truly understand how the proposed system works and how it might impact their community ( An Introduction to Cap and Trade Programs ). To better understand what is cap and trade, we have to know why we need to have this system. A long time ago, cap and trade use to be known as Emissions Trading. The pollutions that are related to carbon cap and trade are the greenhouse and global warming. The steps of understanding what cap and trade means, is by breaking it down into two. Cap is a limit that is defined by scientists as the greenhouse gas emissions; companies have to pay a fine if their emissions are produced over that limit. The Trade part is a business opportunity for organizations to purchase and offer stipends that allow them to discharge just a specific sum. Trading gives organizations a solid motivation to spare cash by cutting pollution. A cap and trade system is made to manage and reduce the greenhouse gas pollution around the world. Back then, when the people s living qualities got improved, they never thought about the results of what they did when they build many factories. The didn t realize that these factories could have a bad effect on the environment or that we could drastically affect the world the way it is now. Even now that people have realized that they are living in a terrible environment, most people still ignore it, because we are so used to it how we lived before. Some people now cannot live without certain substances, such as the those who smoke cannot live without tobacco. • 41. What Is The Role Of Religious Toleration In Colonial America Once the new world was discovered, it took over a century before England successful began to colonize. When the first town, Jamestown, was established, more towns sprouted up, and eventually colonies were formed along the Atlantic coast. As time went on, these colonies could be grouped by regions. The regions of the New world, though sharing general similarities, had major differences in religion, social organization, economy and ethnic patterns, which set the path for colonial sectionalism at the time. Colonial America, as a whole, was a self governed, religiously tolerant, protestant area. The colonies became self governed over time. Originally, most came to America to break free from the Catholic church, but as England loosened its reigns with the English civil war and other distractions, the people of the colonies made their own documents and democracies. Though some were Catholic, most people were some form of Protestant. In the different regions, religious toleration varied to what religions were acceptable and which were not, but it was an overall concept that most approved. The New England region had the least religious toleration, persecuting or exiling ones who did not share the majority s religion. Calvinism shaped all ways of life in New England, especially the government and education system. These puritans and pilgrims were more literate than any other region, and the government was a theocracy. Their social elite were those who were church members, so non

My stomach ached, but the taste of beauty made the pain somewhat bearable. This past summer, I went on a La Vida trip, where I was required to do a solo experience, where I was denied food and social interactions for two days. Fasting was proven to be difficult, but it was through that experience that I began to understand the concept of giving all yourself in worship to God. Most of my life I was only familiar with worshiping God with my time, resources, or through song. In denying myself food, I was shown how to worship God through fasting. From the lessons I learned at La Vida, my goals for the next four years are to do what Jesus said in Luke 10:27: to love the Lord (my) God with all (my) heart and with all (my) soul and with all (my) strength. Over these four years, I plan to worship God through every aspect of my life, including but not limited to in my academic and musical pursuits. Through my academics, I hope to be diligent in my pursuit of knowledge, to grow in my character, and to worship God. In the Liberal Arts for the Christian Life, Jeffrey C. Davis emphasized that education can be a means of worshiping the Lord. In all my pursuits of knowledge, I should study as if I m working for the Lord, not for human masters (Col. 3:23). Then, through this discipline and training of faithfulness, I can be
  • 43. Solving The Global Energy Crisis The biggest issues that humans are facing are all related to energy. Energy has allowed countries to develop into what is now the first world, and has completely changed almost every aspect of daily life. These same energy sources are now polluting our environment, and are a frontrunner of causes for climate change. Also at the same time, a scarcity of available oil, and by extension energy, is a big driver of poverty, and for armed conflicts, especially wars relating to oil in the Middle East. Our dependence on oil is a global problem that requires unprecedented international cooperation. One solution is to make a transition to renewable energy. However, this is not as simple as just installing new energy power plants. The problems that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the energy industry as is the case with any industry is comprised of firms that have the inherent goal of profit maximization. Profit maximization for the energy sector entails selling energy with the biggest profit margin possible, something that is harder to do when the initial cost of the product is raised. From a profit maximizing perspective, firms have absolutely no incentive to use renewable energy if it costs more than polluting alternatives. Politicians also have little incentive to slow down energy production in their countries. Authors Al Mulali and Mohammed (2015) have shown that there is a bi directional causal relationship between energy consumption and GDP for wealthier nations, and that third world nations are more dependent on energy consumption for economic growth. Herein lies the second issue, the problem of political economy. First world nations used fossil fuels in large part to attain their elevated standards of living, and third world nations wish to catch up. The easiest way to catch up, is to burn more fossil fuels, just like the first world did. First world nations are now trying to cut global emissions, which third world nations are still very dependent on for their own well being (Figueres 2015). Therefore, third world politicians must now choose between looking out for their citizens by bringing up their own countries GDPs, and the greater good, which in this case is battling climate change The worst part regarding these

Because the ancient Egyptians believed that the supernatural caused all injuries and illnesses, prayer was a common form of medication. Many gods were prayed to, especially Thoth, both the god of scribes and the doctor to the gods. Isis was also worshipped for her healing and the Romans later adopted her. Sekhmet, the goddess of healing and medicine, was prayed to frequently as well. Healers were represented by a statue of the official Yuny, who was a priest of Sekhmet (Allen, James P.). Exorcism rituals were also practiced, mostly for mental issues. Vile tasting medicines were often used in these processes, usually foul tasting plants with the excreta of animals (Di Stefano, Vincent). The priests and physicians would often chant incantations and wave around sticks to drive out the spirit ( Ancient Egyptian Medicine ). In the Hearst Papyrus, written in 1450, there is a spell for the cure of Asiatics. It reads: Who is all knowing like Re? Who is thus all knowing? This god who blackens the body with char coal? Most physicians in Egypt were men, and all of them studied at the House of Life. Physicians in Egypt were extremely specialized. Herodotus said in Histories 2.84, The practice of medicine is very specialized among them. Each physician treats just one disease. Throughout the specialization, the jobs varied from preventing diseases to the inspection of sacrificial animals to veterinary medicine ( Ancient Egyptian Medicine in Sickness and in Health: Preventative and Curative Health Care ). The best doctors were in the royal court, then the inspectors who supervised the physicians, and the the actual physicians (Nordqvist, Christian). The knowledge that accompanied physicians was viewed

  • 46. Heterogeneous Ribonucleic Proteins ( Hnrnps ) Heterogeneous ribonucleic proteins (HNRNPs) are a family of RNA binding proteins that play a key role in various metabolic functions of RNA. There are roughly twenty major hnRNPs which are readily found in large quantities in the nucleus and in some cases in the cytoplasm. hnRNPs are expressed throughout all tissues at different levels depending on the hnRNP (Kamma et al. 1994). hnRNP metabolic roles include polyadanilation, shuttling mRNA out of the nuclear envelope, telomere biogenesis and localization. (Dreyfuss et al. 2002). In particular, hnRNP A1 can acts an an antagonist to the SF2/ASF protein, which allows A1 to inhibitor exon splicing and cytoplasm bound transport of mRNA. An example of localization is hnRNP A2, which confers the dendritic mRNA transport of various transcripts when induced by neuronal activity (Muslimov et al. 2002). Role of hnRNP A2/B1 Brain plasticity and learning such as BDNF driven long term synaptic potentiation rely partly on the shuttling and translation of dendritic mRNAs. Large messenger RNA binding proteins such as hnRNP A2/B1 carry inactive dendrite bound mRNA via the microtubule cytoskeleton where they will be translated when they are activated at the synapse (Leal et al. 2014). Brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF) and increased neuronal activity has shown to regulate the distribution of A2/B1. Particularly an increase in BDNF rises the tendency of cytoplasmic and and dendritic localization. Some key protein transcripts carried by

Much of Marley s inspiration for the song stems from his Jamaican childhood and growing up in a place filled with oppression and very little rights for their religion, which he expresses that he doesn t want anyone else to go through. Oxford (as cited in Oxford, 2003, p.8) defined strategies as follows: The word strategies comes from the ancient Greek word strategia, which means steps or actions taken for the purpose of winning a war. The warlike meaning of strategia, has fortunately fallen away but the control and directedness remains in the version of the word. He believed that whether a strategy is helpful or not depends on the specific context in which it is appropriately used. In order to use a strategy effectively, learners have to consider three important conditions: whether the strategy relates well to the second language task at hand, whether the strategy fits the particular students learning style preferences to one degree or another, or whether the students employ the strategy and link it with other strategies well. II. 2. Distinction between Strategies and Skills Strategies can be defined as conscious actions that learners take to achieve desired goals or objectives, while a skill is a strategy that has become automatic. As learners consciously learn and practice specific reading strategies, the strategies move from conscious to unconscious; from strategy to skill (Nunan, 2003). House On Mango Street Analysis (hook) Written by Sandra Cisneros, The House on Mango Street is a beautiful coming of age story from the perspective of a little Latina girl named Esperanza Cordero, who has just moved to a new house on Mango Street with her family. The story follows Esperanza and the people she encounters during her time on Mango Street as she struggles to find herself as an individual/her identity. During the story, Esperanzadiscovers how her culture and social class affects her, how she relates to the roles of womenin her community, and how to process her hopes and dreams as she matures. These pieces eventually come together in order to help Esperanza form her identity. The shabby old house on Mango Street is all that Esperanza and her family can afford at the moment, as they are very poor.
