The Issue Of Humanitarian Intervention
The current consensus in the international community understands that nations, like individuals, have
basic rights, namely, the right to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. When another nation
violates these rights, it is considered an act of aggression. However, there certainly are situations
where a violation of territorieal integrity or political sovereignty is justified, namely humanitarian
intervention, thus use of military force against another state when the chief publicly declared aim of
that military action is ending human rights violations being perpetrated by the state against which it is
directed. The issue of humanitarian intervention has been at the forefront of international relations
discourse, particularly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill argues that the only legitimate basis for limiting the individual s
liberty, in the liberal democratic state, is to prevent harm to others. In his words, The only purpose for
which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will,
is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. This is
now considered the Harm Principle. The Legalist Paradigm seeks to extend this liberty to the states
themselves as well. It is a modern, secular and legalistic interpretation of Classical Just War Theory,
which reflects conventions of law and order based upon the analogy of states to individuals. It took
root in the writings of the Catholic theologian Francisco de Vitoria and the Dutch jurist, Hugo Grotius
and also from the Treaty of Westphalia at the end of the Thirty Years War in the 17th Century, which
led to the formal and legal recognition of independent, sovereign nation states and their rights to
territorial integrity and political sovereignty. The Legalist Paradigm consists of six claims. The first
two claims outline the existence of an international society of independent nation states that have
agreed upon the rights of its members to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. Thus, the third
claims defines aggression as the use of force to threaten the rights of another state.

Your skin feels thick and insensitive. There is a salty taste in your mouth. A hard, painful know is in
your stomach where the food is undigested. Your eyes do not pick up much detail and the sharp
outlines of objects are slightly blurred. Everything looks a little unreal. When you walk, your feet
hardly seem to touch the ground and there is a floaty feeling all over your body. Even the time sense
seems to be changed. Men who are really moving at a normal pace seem to take forever to pass a
given point. And when you move it seems to you that you are very much slowed down, although
actually you are probably moving more quickly than you normally

Friendship And Self Discipline In Remember The Titans
The Civil Rights movement made a big change in American history. In the movie Remember the
Titans we see how de segregation effects high school football teams, coaches and society. The movie
takes place at a time in history when integration of black and white teenagers start in schools. There is
a cultural divide between the football players. The main characters are Herman Boone, Bill Yoast,
Sheryl Yoast, Gerry Bertier, and Julius Campbell. In this project I will explain 4 examples of
friendship/self discipline by the main characters in the movie. Next I will explain what friendship and
self discipline mean to me. The definition of friendship is someone you can have fun with. Someone
you can always depend on if you need help. A person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yoast begins to see that they must work as a team to get the players to get along and respect each other
s culture.
Moreover, Boone uses different things with the players to get the players to get along. He makes the
black players and whites players ride on the same bus, share rooms, and all the players run at the battle
of Gettysburg. These things make the team come together and look at each other like a team and not
color. This also make Boone and Yoast have respect for each other and become friends in the end.
Second, Gerry Bertier is the white player that seems to be the leader of the white players. Julius
Campbell is a black player that seems to be the leader of the black players. At first the two teenagers
do not get along because of race, favoritism, and need to protect their culture. Coach Boone having the
team players get on same bus, share rooms, and help each other on the run at the Gettysburg battle
make the players become a better team a develop a friendship. Gerry and Campbell develop a respect
for one another and it rubs off on the other teammates. Towards the end you can see that Gerry and
Julius are now good friends. Gerry gets into a car accident and asks Julius to come visit him in the
hospital. This is a big difference from the beginning of the movie when they hated each other just
because their skin color is different.

Safe Re-Entry of Spacecraft
In safe re entry, there are various issues that need to be considered such as re entry angle, heat build
up, high g forces, ionisation black out and landing on the ground. The Apollo spacecraft returning
from the moon, the US space shuttle and the Russian Vostok spacecraft are examples of spacecraft
which have successfully addressed these issues, and have safely returned to Earth.
Re entry of spacecraft begins with astronauts usually retro firing their spacecraft s rockets where they
position rockets to point ahead of themselves and execute a short burn that will slow down the
spacecraft, allowing it to drop down into the atmosphere into an elliptical orbit at an altitude of about
100 kilometres. The time, direction and duration of the burn must be controlled carefully to achieve an
optimum re entry angle. The trajectory on re entry into the atmosphere must be at precisely a correct
angle that is specific to the velocity of the spacecraft involved. The re entry angle must be chosen
carefully as it also affects the space crafts heat build up and ionisation black put period. If the
spacecraft enters too steeply, it enters the atmosphere too fast, penetrating to the deeper denser layers
before slowing, increasing the heat built up and the spacecraft may burn up due to the heat. The high g
forces experienced in such an entry could also destroy the spacecraft and injure the passengers. If the
angle of re entry is too shallow, the spacecraft may bounce or skip off the

Food Log
Food Log Report From Diet Plus
In my food log, I tracked my food and liquid consumption for five days in a row. I thought this was
interesting process, but I kinda of liked it. At some points of the process I thought it was kinda of
difficult to remember to log the food I ate on the computer. But, ultimately I thought it was worth it
because I got to see all the macro and micro nutrients I consumed which is something I don t always
get to see.
I would saw that my consumption of kcals were around the same range. Out of the five days I tracked
my intake, I ranged around 1,000 kcals a day. I guess you could say that I don t really a good variety
of foods in my diet, so I would definitely change that by adding more fruits and vegetables. I also
would make the change of eating a little bit more food, because I think only 1,000 kcals a day is a
little less. I think I will try to bum it up to 1,500 or 1533 which is my recommended DRI.
Looking at the combination report, it was in all the appropriate ranges from the AMDR range. I
consumed 47% percent of carbs, 24% of protein and 30 percent of fats. The benefit of being in the
AMDR ranges, is that it help you consume the right amount of macronutrient to avoid ... Show more

Springhill Country Guesthouse Essay
Springhill Country Guesthouse Case Study
1. What is meant by qualitative and quantitative research?
a) Qualitative essays are more subjective and focus on the researcher s own inferences drawn from his
study of the data.
The qualitative studies use data from focus groups or case studies that the researcher herself analyses.
b) Quantitative studies are more objective and concentrate on drawing conclusions based a statistical
analysis of the data. Both types of essays seek to answer a question, called a hypothesis, about some
aspect of social phenomena. The quantitative projects use surveys that provide a set of fixed responses
that can be coded with numbers.

Problem solution research is to solve specific marketing problem such as: * Segmentation research *

It is important to mention:
a) Problem identification or recognition starts when a company manager believes that he doesn t have
enough information to make a decision to solve a problem or to identify and take advantage of a
market opportunity. In that case the manager has to seek for the information through the market
research process.
b) Defining the real problem it is important so the manager can be clear about the information is
needed and for what purpose. The management decision problem needs to be defining in terms of a
market research problem.
c) Defining the objectives of the research it is important in this stage of the market research to avoid
studying the wrong thing. Basically here the manager define what information he needs, when he need
it and makes a statement of the purpose of the research.
In the case of Springhill, they defined they need demographic information but

Rhetorical Analysis Of Unicef s Campaign For Children
UNICEF created a campaign for children that need a family; hence, the title, Every Child Needs a
Family due to the increasing number of children without families. These children lack a caring and
loving family; therefore, in order to decrease the number of children without a family, UNICEF
brilliantly put together the advertisement that touches the heart of those who look at it. The image
seems to be taken at a storefront with a male and a female mannequin. Perhaps, since the mannequins
look like the ideal parents, the child decides to hold the mannequins hands. The construction of this
advertisement incorporated the use of rhetorical strategies such as a contemporary style environment,
in order to enhance the rhetorical situation. The rhetorical situation then creates a more effective
approach due to the display of affection that tries to inform its audience about the increase of children
that needs a family and people should make a difference by helping out in any way. The rhetorical
strategies incorporated into the advertisement played an enormous role in its effectiveness. The author,
UNICEF, has a large influence due to its global recognition as an organization that works for children
in over 190 countries. For this particular audience, UNICEF is targeting adults, which leads to the
purpose. UNICEF targets adults so that the adults will be more likely to adopt a child in need. The
phrase that the advertisement stated is, Every child needs a family ; therefore, the

The Voting Of Citizens, The Middle And Lower Class
The ruling does not encourage the majority of citizens, the middle and lower class, to become
involved in politics. Once corporations can donate to their heart s desires, regular citizens will not be
the main focus of politicians. Such can be seen in the way congressional members call donors for
hours in the Congressional Call Centers. Congressmen and women are not calling the average citizen,
but rather they are calling people who can give them a large lump sum of money. During a talk,
Senator Chris Murphy addresses money in politics, and he explains how awful the process of
gathering re election campaign finances is: For a senate race I m not calling anybody who doesn t
have the chance of giving me at least one thousand dollars... so you got to imagine that the people I m
calling are the folk that are making a half million to a million dollars and they have fundamentally
different problems than everyone else ( Opening Address ). The Senator openly talks about how awful
the fundraising processes in and how many members of congress walk away because of this. The
Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case only increased the amount of time congressmen
and women spend away from their duties as legislators and increases the time they are sitting in
cubicles calling their donors.
The solution to campaign finances has been in place since the 1970s in the form of a question on
taxpayers 1040 form. The question read: Do you want $3 of your federal tax to go to the

Big Dig Research Paper
The Central Artery/Tunnel Project, also known as the Big Dig, is one of the most expensive,
technically challenging, and largest public projects in American history. The Big Dig was a super
project that was created to reroute the Central Artery of Interstate 93, the main roadway through the
core of the city, into the 1.5 mile Thomas P. O Neill Jr. Tunnel. The construction of the Big Dig
untangled the co mingled traffic in Boston, Massachusetts and resulted in a 62% decrease in vehicle
hours of travel and reduced the afternoon peak hour by a massive 85.6%.
The highway planning of the Big Dig started in 1982 with the actual construction starting in 1991. The
Big Dig was initially planned to be finalized in 1998 with the estimated total cost of 2.8 billion (7.8
billion adjusted for inflation to today s dollar value) but due to cost overruns, design flaws, criminal
arrests and even one death the construction of the highway was delayed. After all the delays, the Big
Dig was finally completed in 2007 at a cost of 8.08 billion (20.5 billion in today s dollar value). After

The Wage Gap, Worker Discrimination And Varying...
In terms of attributing to the wage gap, worker discrimination and varying preferences occurs largely
based on views surrounding what jobs are male or female dominated. Although worker discrimination
and wage discrepancies are a reality in Brazil, the labor market conditions for women are becoming
better over time. Despite gender segregation in the labor market, the wages of women are sometimes
evenly or positively affected. For instance, For industries and occupations where women receive
higher remuneration than men, we observe that women have higher education levels, indicating that
their higher remuneration is due to individual characteristics (Madalozzo 165). Even though a positive
correlation has been observed regarding women s education level and wage, in general, men still
benefit more based on their individual characteristics, which is why they are generally paid more.
According to Madalozzo, This diïŹ€erence in pay is decreasing but was still a signiïŹcant 15.4 percent,
on average, in 2007, and ...the present study improves the quantiïŹcation of this wage gap, showing
that the trend of a decreasing gap remains, but is losing pace overtime (165 66). In order to combat the
presence of the wage gap, policies regarding bettering women s education and incentivizing women to
enter the labor market should be implemented because the current system discourages women to enter
the market. According to Galor and Weil, ...increasing women s relative wages reduces fertility by

Egyptian Afterlife Beliefs
The ancient Egyptian s views were very different than those of the views of the Mesopotamians who
viewed the afterlife as this dark and gloomy place where no matter what your status was on earth
everyone was the same in the afterlife. The Mesopotamian s believed that the afterlife was the total
opposite of life on earth; people would eat clay, drink dirt and wear garments made out of feathers. In
contrast, the Egyptians viewed the afterlife as a mirror image of life on earth. Egyptians were buried
with their most valuable possessions so that they would have these things in the afterlife as well. The
Egyptians praised their pharaohs and believed that the pharaohs served with the gods in the afterlife.

must go on a quest to find a stolen item from the gods, the Master Bolt. But on his way to beginning
his journey, he must seek the Oracle for help and he is told a prophecy. The prophecy states that he
will go west and face a god who has turned, then find what was stolen and see it safely returned, but a

Luke then explains that he is with Kronos, and they devised a plan to steal Hades Helm of Darkness

true because Percy returned the Helm of Darkness, his mother was resurrected by Hades. Percy meets

Symbolism In Smoke Signals
In the film Smoke Signals, Chris Eyre explores the lives of the people of the Coeur d Alene
Reservation through Thomas Builds the Fire s story. Thomas s story shows how Victor s relationship
with Arnold is rebuilt even after Arnold s death, and Victor comes to a place of understanding and
forgiveness with his father and the world around him. Throughout the film, the symbolic references of
the rez car and the cutting of the hair tie the story together and complement the main themes of life
change and renewal, exemplifying the way people work through life s hardships. Accordingly, at the
beginning of the film when Thomas s parents died in a fire, Arnold cut his hair. For an Indian, this is

At first glance, it takes a second to realize that the car is driving backwards and works only in reverse.
This represents how people feel when dealing with conflict and hardships. When in conflict, Victor
feels that he can never move forward. When he tries to move forward, he stays in one place or moved
back yet another step. Many people today can relate to this and experience this same feeling in their
struggles. This can also be said for the Indians living in the reservation. Ever since Columbus came
across the ocean, the Red man has been constantly pushed backwards, unable to get ahead. Likewise,
waterfalls and rivers represent the themes of renewal of the heart and washing away of hurt in Smoke
Signals. A stream is like the vital organ, the liver. A liver purifies the blood cleansing it of toxins and
making it pure. This is evident when Victor pours out Arnold s ashes from the bridge into the river.
Victor is able to pick up Arnold s ashes at the sheriff s office after he forgives Arnold and is able to

Mendacity In Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Mendacity is an extreme impulse to be untruthful. It is to obfuscate the reality from fantasy. People
often come in contact with people who can never be trusted because of their untruthfulness. These are
the ones who practice mendacity to perfection. Many people change the truth in various ways in order
to fit in with the social construction of reality. Deceit is an art that can be mastered through practice,
but unfortunately many people are already well versed in this art form. It leads to destroyed
friendships, destroyed relationships, and destroyed careers. It is something that resides within us all,
but some choose to practice it regularly while others have suppressed its usage to a minimum.
Whatever the case maybe, we can all tap into our bizarre quality of being able to trick people.

Hiv And The Immune System
What is HIV HIV , stands for human immunodeficiency virus, it is a virus that attacks the immune
system, the immune system protects the body against infection and illness .If the body does not have a
strong immune system, It may not be able fight off disease. The virus and the infection it causes are
termed HIV. White blood cells are the part of the immune system that is important as far as fighting
off infection. When a person catches HIV it infects and destroys certain white blood cells called CD4+
cells. If a lot of CD4+ cells are destroyed, the body can no longer fight off infection. When HIV
progresses to its last stage it is called AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). People with
AIDS have a very low number of CD4+ cells and get infections or cancers that do not commonly
occur in non infected people. These infections and cancers can be deadly because the immune system
is compromised. A common misconception that people have is that AIDS and HIV is the same thing.
Having HIV doesn t mean you have AIDS. Even if a patient is never treated for HIV, it still takes a
long time for HIV to turn into AIDS sometimes it can take up to 10 to 12 years for HIV to turn into
AIDS. When a patient is diagnosed with HIV there are medicines to slow the HIV virus to turning into
AIDS, medicines can slow or stop the disease from damaging the immune system. If AIDS does
develop there is still hope, medicines can help the immune system become healthy again. With

Social Effects Of Advertising In Advertising
When going shopping, watching the television or looking in magazines, young girls are among the
most targeted, being affected and vulnerable to the social influences of marketing and advertisements.
Many advertisements of clothing have depicted the female form in a sexually provocative manner.
Sexualisation is when a person s value comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behaviour, to the
exclusion of other characteristics. Furthermore, sexual objectification is when the female body is seen
as an object of male desire, which leads to a woman s worth being her body s appearance and sexual
function. Evidence from social and psychological studies is suggesting that girls are exposed from an
early age to sexualising content. On average, one third of clothing items available to young girls in
stores have sexualised characteristics containing either tight fitting and skin tight, low cut, or see
through parts. Such clothing emphasises sexual body parts such as the chest, bum, or legs. All of

Many people are afraid of Emptiness, however, because it reminds them of Loneliness. Everything has

Loneliness really begins. (p.147)
By pointing out the paradox where the pursuit of fullness results in emptiness, it forces the audience to

At first I tried to define it, my plan was to create a religion, synthesizing the belief that such and such
is supposed to be perfect. After concluding that I needed a universal definition of perfection, this idea
was soon abandoned for being too narrow and I went on the search for a way to eliminate human
influence, thus rendering it objective and is therefore perfect as a matter of fact. Ultimately realizing
that perfection is a human construct and isolating it from humanity would leave me with nothing,
perfection would cease to exist. When I finally accepted the impossible nature of an objective
perfection, creating it became straightforward. A lie must be constructed in order to make it exist, and
when the impossible perfection comes to existence, thankfully as humans are not omniscient, the lie
can be covered up. I have tried to completely ignore the nature of perfection, making my own rules,
and that idea collapsed quickly. By giving in a little and learning about how the concept of perfection
came to be, I decided to alter it, bend it to my need but inevitably, I was unsuccessful. Only when I

Apollo 17 Research Paper
Apollo 17 was a very interesting lunar mission, and the goal of the mission was to conduct a
geological survey of the moon. The mission also had several other purposes such as conducting
scientific experiments. The reason why it landed in the Taurus littrow highlands is because it was a
place on the moon that had not yet been explored yet. Scientists were hoping to get some interesting
new rock samples. The mission took place on December 7, 1972.
There is a lot of history behind the apollo 17 technology. It all started with sputnik the first satellite to
go up to space. Since then the technology has evolved considerably to the point where it can eject
certain layers of the rocket, and also go all the way to the moon. In terms of cost it cost roughly 220

September 11, 2001 is a date that will live on forever in American history, much like the date of
December 7, 1941. As President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated it is a date, which will live in infamy.
The fear and the need to protect the country and its citizens from future terrorist attacks resulted in the
U.S. Government to enact two different policies. The Uniting and Strengthening America by
Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorist Act (also known as the USA
PATRIOT Act) and the Homeland Security Act. Many individual feel that these two policies have
infringed the rights of the American people, while others believe that these infringements are a
necessity to ensure the safety of the people. This paper will explore if in fact these two policies are
unreasonably and unjustly infringing on the rights of the American People, and how it effect the social
justice system in America The USA PATRIOT Act was signed into law October 26, 2001, a little more
then a month after the horrific attacks of 9/11; the Homeland Security Act was signed into law thirteen
months later on November 25, 2002. The purpose of the USA PATRIOT ACT was to create the
process that the Government and its organizations uses to investigate terrorists that are currently living
within the Unites States borders and abroad. The Homeland Security Act was created to consolidate

If I Follow the Law, Why am I Being Harassed? All over the globe different countries have adopted
different models for approaching prostitution. Here in the United States, our government employs the
prohibitionist or criminalization model regarding prostitution. This model criminalizes the prostitute
or sex worker as well as the customer (Nichols, 2016). On the other hand, Hungary employs a
legalization model in regards to sex workers. In this model laws preventing sexual commerce are
eliminated, however the state is still involved by regulating the industry, including the locations or
zones prostitution is allowed, and under what circumstances individuals are allowed to buy and sell
sex (Nichols, 2016). Under the legalization model, sex workers should feel safer, and less ostracized

The Definition Of Interfaith Marriage As A System Of...
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary (2004), the prefix inter means between, among, together
or involving two or more. It also says that the word faith means strong belief or trust in someone or
something , belief in the existence of God , or a system of religious beliefs. In the instance of the term
interfaith , we can put the two definitions together and say that interfaith is involving two or more
systems of religious beliefs, or an existence of God. The dictionary defines marriage as the
relationship that exists between a husband and wife. So, putting the words interfaith and marriage
together would ultimately mean that the man and wife have two different religious belief systems.
Turner and West s (2006) book, Perspectives on Family Communication, defines interfaith marriage as
unions that include at least two different religious identities. That is the definition of interfaith
marriage in its simplest form, but an interfaith marriage is far more complex than just its meaning. To
me, and also many others across the globe, interfaith marriage is a relationship that needs special
commitment and attention, and now, I will attempt to show you why. Religion has always been known
for impacting marriage quality and satisfaction (see, for example, Hood et. al.,1996), who also explain
that a major reason for shifting from one religious body to another occurs when people of different
faiths marry. Knowing that marriage is often the reason that

is it art or vandalism? To be honest I think graffiti is a form of art because it is a way to express

and where they grew up. d my opinion there s kids out there who have talent better than some artists
for that matter and are these kids are not being recognized for it because people have this vision in
their heads that graffiti is a crime. Instead of being recognised and paid for their work they are getting

Is drug testing the welfare constitutional or not?
When dealing with this we come to many road blocks. We should know and understand the difference
in a drug use problem and a psychiatric disorder. Also understanding the difference in substance abuse
and substance dependence. Confusing the two could be an issue. When you decide to drug test the
welfare there is much more that needs to go into it than just the test to determine if you should receive

When people learn that an education can give oneself freedom, power, and knowledge oneself can
conquer any problem that comes its way. It is oneself responsibility to take advantage of its free
education that I and everyone is given here in the United States. It seems people that are restricted
from receiving an education are the ones that are determined to do whatever it takes to get an
education so oneself can improve one s life. I read the Fredrick Douglass an American Slave. It
seemed a bit harsh the way he was treated. He had a mistress that wanted to teach him how to read and
learn his ABCs but when her husband found out what she was doing he said to her If you give a nigger
an inch, he will take an ell. A nigger should know nothing

John Malquist Research Paper
The Researcher, The Mentor, The Galvanizer
Sherwin John Carlquist is a botanist and a photographer who understood the basic principles of wood
anatomy and evolution through his research in Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (Sherwin, (a)).
Sherwin s studies of dicotyledonous wood evolution has directed him to pursue understanding the
evolutionary patterns of islands (Edward Roy, 1997). This was the turning point where Sherwin s
work finally been acknowledged after thirty long years, on 1991. He had a grand total of 24 principles
governing long distance dispersal and evolution on islands acknowledged by other botanists (CA).
Early Days
Sherwin John Carlquist was born on July 7th, 1930 in Los Angeles, son of Robert William and Helen
(Bauer) Carlquist (prabook). At the age of 22, Sherwin received his undergraduate bachelor degree at
University of California, then decided to do a PHD on philosophy, and graduated at 1956. While
Sherwin was taking on his PHD, at the last year, 1955 1956, Sherwin was awarded a postdoctoral
study from Harvard University, there were only Three NSF fellowships during graduate and
postdoctoral years (Sherwin, (a)).
That same year, Sherwin started his teaching career as an associate ... Show more content on

Sherwin has produced 300 scientific articles, the more common being related to wood anatomy, as
well as 10 books, 4 of them dealing with islands: Island Life (1965), Hawaii: A Natural History
(1970), Island Biology (1974) and Tarweeds and Silverswords: Evolution of the Madiinae
(Asteraceae) (2003). In island biology (1974), Sherwin demonstrated his encyclopedic knowledge
about evolutionary trends and phenomena taking place in both flora and fauna, and the selection
pressure which controls them. There are four of Carlquist s most important contributions to the
development of the biology of island

Hamlet Act 1 Scene 1
SCENE ONE
1. The first scene starts off with Bernardo and Francisco, soldiers on duty. Bernardo is telling
Francisco to go to bed, but just after, they are joined by Horatio and Marcellus. Francisco leaves and
the other three men continue to talk about ghosts and apparitions. Horatio expresses his disbelief in
ghosts, but this soon changes when they are encountered with one. Horatio seems a bit scared, but
because he is the scholar, Bernardo tells him to talk to the ghost, as that is the only way it will
communicate with them. They believe it is the ghost of the late King of Denmark, but when Horatio
suggests this, it seems offended and goes away. The men seem to take the ghosts as a warning about
the threat of attack from Norway, because Prince ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laetres is advising his sister, Ophelia, to be aware of the dangers of young love. He says she should
not give her love to anyone, as young boys grow up to have many responsibilities and their intentions
about love may change.
2. Laetres is warning his sister, Ophelia, about Hamlet.
3. Polonius advises his son to think before he acts, to be careful of who his friends are, but keep the
true ones close, and to try not to get into fights, but if he does, to do his best to win. He also tells
Laetres to reserve judgment, to buy items for their quality, not the impression they will make, and not
to borrow or lend money. The most important piece of advice Polonius gives his son, is to be true to
himself.
4. Polonius advises Ophelia to give herself more respect when it comes to Hamlet. He says she should
not spend all of her time with him, and mistake all of the promises he makes to her, as true love.
5. Laetres response to his father s advice, suggests that he will follow it, and Ophelia verbally states
that she will follow the advice her father has given her as well.
6. My first impression of this family is that they are very close to one another. The children are very
respectful of their father s advice, suggesting that their family is very strong and loving of one another.
They each care about each other s well being very

Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein
DantĂšs is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to escape
from their creations. DantĂšs and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same
person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a
female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question
here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. The
Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll: You are my
creator, but I am your master obey!
The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced ...

When DantĂšs is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the
Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll
and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or
left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and DantĂšs, the Creature is never named. He is
constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s
point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s
perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written
from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by
society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised
in a similar way to DantĂšs, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s
view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can
said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. DantĂšs and the
Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from
society. Whilst DantĂšs distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s
distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance
stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his
own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the
Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this,
however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a

C. Wright Mills Sociological Imagination
Exploring C. Wright Mills sociological imagination
Introduction
Many sociologists believe that good sociology has to examine both the structure of a society and
social interaction between individuals. It is only by combining the study of the major changes in a
society and in individuals lives that one can form an understanding of social life (Haralambos,
Holborn, Heald, 2000). People have an irresistible need to explain behaviour, to find the causes of an
individual s actions, and therefore make it seem orderly and predictable (Abell, Myers, Sani, 2014).
Furthermore, sociologists share the aim of expanding this need for an explanation to the social world
as a whole, even if their perspectives and approaches differ. They believe that ... Show more content

In a marriage the spouses may experience personal troubles, but should the divorce rates within a
certain amount of years into marriage rise, it indicates a structural issue in the institutions of marriage,
and thus becomes a public issue.
Conclusion
According to Mills, sociology should be about examining the biography of an individual in a wider
context of history of societies (Mills, 2000). Sociologists must consider the major institutions of
society, not only the personal situation and character of a range of individuals. Sociological
imagination allows us to grasp history and biography, examine them together and separately, and their
relation in a society. But sociological imagination is not merely an alternative approach for
sociologists to play with: it is important to all members of society should they wish to understand,
change and improve, not only their lives, but the society in which they live in (Haralambos, Holborn,
Heald, 2000). It can be argued that the sociological imagination is crucial in controlling the risks and
grasping the potential found in modern societies, and thus giving us an opportunity to improve people

  • 2. The Issue Of Humanitarian Intervention The current consensus in the international community understands that nations, like individuals, have basic rights, namely, the right to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. When another nation violates these rights, it is considered an act of aggression. However, there certainly are situations where a violation of territorieal integrity or political sovereignty is justified, namely humanitarian intervention, thus use of military force against another state when the chief publicly declared aim of that military action is ending human rights violations being perpetrated by the state against which it is directed. The issue of humanitarian intervention has been at the forefront of international relations discourse, particularly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill argues that the only legitimate basis for limiting the individual s liberty, in the liberal democratic state, is to prevent harm to others. In his words, The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. This is now considered the Harm Principle. The Legalist Paradigm seeks to extend this liberty to the states themselves as well. It is a modern, secular and legalistic interpretation of Classical Just War Theory, which reflects conventions of law and order based upon the analogy of states to individuals. It took root in the writings of the Catholic theologian Francisco de Vitoria and the Dutch jurist, Hugo Grotius and also from the Treaty of Westphalia at the end of the Thirty Years War in the 17th Century, which led to the formal and legal recognition of independent, sovereign nation states and their rights to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. The Legalist Paradigm consists of six claims. The first two claims outline the existence of an international society of independent nation states that have agreed upon the rights of its members to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. Thus, the third claims defines aggression as the use of force to threaten the rights of another state. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These things make the team come together and look at each other like a team and not color. This also make Boone and Yoast have respect for each other and become friends in the end. Second, Gerry Bertier is the white player that seems to be the leader of the white players. Julius Campbell is a black player that seems to be the leader of the black players. • 5. Safe Re-Entry of Spacecraft In safe re entry, there are various issues that need to be considered such as re entry angle, heat build up, high g forces, ionisation black out and landing on the ground. The Apollo spacecraft returning from the moon, the US space shuttle and the Russian Vostok spacecraft are examples of spacecraft which have successfully addressed these issues, and have safely returned to Earth. Re entry of spacecraft begins with astronauts usually retro firing their spacecraft s rockets where they position rockets to point ahead of themselves and execute a short burn that will slow down the spacecraft, allowing it to drop down into the atmosphere into an elliptical orbit at an altitude of about 100 kilometres. The time, direction and duration of the burn must be controlled carefully to achieve an optimum re entry angle. The trajectory on re entry into the atmosphere must be at precisely a correct angle that is specific to the velocity of the spacecraft involved. The re entry angle must be chosen carefully as it also affects the space crafts heat build up and ionisation black put period. If the spacecraft enters too steeply, it enters the atmosphere too fast, penetrating to the deeper denser layers before slowing, increasing the heat built up and the spacecraft may burn up due to the heat. The high g forces experienced in such an entry could also destroy the spacecraft and injure the passengers. If the angle of re entry is too shallow, the spacecraft may bounce or skip off the ... • 9. Rhetorical Analysis Of Unicef s Campaign For Children UNICEF created a campaign for children that need a family; hence, the title, Every Child Needs a Family due to the increasing number of children without families. These children lack a caring and loving family; therefore, in order to decrease the number of children without a family, UNICEF brilliantly put together the advertisement that touches the heart of those who look at it. The image seems to be taken at a storefront with a male and a female mannequin. Perhaps, since the mannequins look like the ideal parents, the child decides to hold the mannequins hands. The construction of this advertisement incorporated the use of rhetorical strategies such as a contemporary style environment, in order to enhance the rhetorical situation. The rhetorical situation then creates a more effective approach due to the display of affection that tries to inform its audience about the increase of children that needs a family and people should make a difference by helping out in any way. The rhetorical strategies incorporated into the advertisement played an enormous role in its effectiveness. The author, UNICEF, has a large influence due to its global recognition as an organization that works for children in over 190 countries. For this particular audience, UNICEF is targeting adults, which leads to the purpose. UNICEF targets adults so that the adults will be more likely to adopt a child in need. • 10. The Voting Of Citizens, The Middle And Lower Class The ruling does not encourage the majority of citizens, the middle and lower class, to become involved in politics. Once corporations can donate to their heart s desires, regular citizens will not be the main focus of politicians. Such can be seen in the way congressional members call donors for hours in the Congressional Call Centers. Congressmen and women are not calling the average citizen, but rather they are calling people who can give them a large lump sum of money. During a talk, Senator Chris Murphy addresses money in politics, and he explains how awful the process of gathering re election campaign finances is: For a senate race I m not calling anybody who doesn t have the chance of giving me at least one thousand dollars... so you got to imagine that the people I m calling are the folk that are making a half million to a million dollars and they have fundamentally different problems than everyone else ( Opening Address ). The Senator openly talks about how awful the fundraising processes in and how many members of congress walk away because of this. The Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission case only increased the amount of time congressmen and women spend away from their duties as legislators and increases the time they are sitting in cubicles calling their donors. The solution to campaign finances has been in place since the 1970s in the form of a question on taxpayers 1040 form. The question read: Do you want $3 of your federal tax to go to the ... • 12. The Wage Gap, Worker Discrimination And Varying... In terms of attributing to the wage gap, worker discrimination and varying preferences occurs largely based on views surrounding what jobs are male or female dominated. Although worker discrimination and wage discrepancies are a reality in Brazil, the labor market conditions for women are becoming better over time. Despite gender segregation in the labor market, the wages of women are sometimes evenly or positively affected. For instance, For industries and occupations where women receive higher remuneration than men, we observe that women have higher education levels, indicating that their higher remuneration is due to individual characteristics (Madalozzo 165). Even though a positive correlation has been observed regarding women s education level and wage, in general, men still benefit more based on their individual characteristics, which is why they are generally paid more. Furthermore, sexual objectification is when the female body is seen as an object of male desire, which leads to a woman s worth being her body s appearance and sexual function. • 41. John Malquist Research Paper The Researcher, The Mentor, The Galvanizer Sherwin John Carlquist is a botanist and a photographer who understood the basic principles of wood anatomy and evolution through his research in Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (Sherwin, (a)). Sherwin s studies of dicotyledonous wood evolution has directed him to pursue understanding the evolutionary patterns of islands (Edward Roy, 1997). This was the turning point where Sherwin s work finally been acknowledged after thirty long years, on 1991. He had a grand total of 24 principles governing long distance dispersal and evolution on islands acknowledged by other botanists (CA). Early Days Sherwin John Carlquist was born on July 7th, 1930 in Los Angeles, son of Robert William and Helen (Bauer) Carlquist (prabook). At the age of 22, Sherwin received his undergraduate bachelor degree at University of California, then decided to do a PHD on philosophy, and graduated at 1956. While Sherwin was taking on his PHD, at the last year, 1955 1956, Sherwin was awarded a postdoctoral study from Harvard University, there were only Three NSF fellowships during graduate and postdoctoral years (Sherwin, (a)). That same year, Sherwin started his teaching career as an associate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In island biology (1974), Sherwin demonstrated his encyclopedic knowledge about evolutionary trends and phenomena taking place in both flora and fauna, and the selection pressure which controls them. • 42. Hamlet Act 1 Scene 1 SCENE ONE 1. The first scene starts off with Bernardo and Francisco, soldiers on duty. Bernardo is telling Francisco to go to bed, but just after, they are joined by Horatio and Marcellus. Francisco leaves and the other three men continue to talk about ghosts and apparitions. Horatio expresses his disbelief in ghosts, but this soon changes when they are encountered with one. Horatio seems a bit scared, but because he is the scholar, Bernardo tells him to talk to the ghost, as that is the only way it will communicate with them. They believe it is the ghost of the late King of Denmark, but when Horatio suggests this, it seems offended and goes away. The men seem to take the ghosts as a warning about the threat of attack from Norway, because Prince ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laetres is advising his sister, Ophelia, to be aware of the dangers of young love. He says she should not give her love to anyone, as young boys grow up to have many responsibilities and their intentions about love may change. 2. Laetres is warning his sister, Ophelia, about Hamlet. 3. Polonius advises his son to think before he acts, to be careful of who his friends are, but keep the true ones close, and to try not to get into fights, but if he does, to do his best to win. He also tells Laetres to reserve judgment, to buy items for their quality, not the impression they will make, and not to borrow or lend money. The most important piece of advice Polonius gives his son, is to be true to himself. 4. Polonius advises Ophelia to give herself more respect when it comes to Hamlet. He says she should not spend all of her time with him, and mistake all of the promises he makes to her, as true love. 5. Laetres response to his father s advice, suggests that he will follow it, and Ophelia verbally states that she will follow the advice her father has given her as well. 6. • 43. Compare And Contrast Hyde And Frankenstein DantĂšs is also shown to be similar to Frankenstein and Jekyll, in that the three are unable to escape from their creations. DantĂšs and Jekyll are trapped more so than Frankenstein, as they are the same person as their creations, whereas Frankenstein is trapped by being unable to bring himself to create a female creature due to the effect it may have on society. Frankenstein s identity is called into question here, as he becomes almost defined, in the Creature s eyes, as being unable to keep his word. The Creature s words show a parallel between himself and Hyde and Frankenstein and Jekyll: You are my creator, but I am your master obey! The verb obey causes the creator s identities to be reduced to that of slaves: Frankenstein is forced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When DantĂšs is imprisoned, he loses his name, Hyde is known solely by his appearance, and the Creature is never given a name. This contrasts with the socially accepted Monte Cristo, Henry Jekyll and Victor Frankenstein. Their names allow them to be accepted by, not forgotten about, shunned, or left incapable of joining, society. Unlike Hyde and DantĂšs, the Creature is never named. He is constantly referred to as a creature and a miserable fiend. This mainly comes through Frankenstein s point of view, which suggests that the Creature s monstrousness stems from Frankenstein s perceptions of him and the way he is originally presented to the reader. Had the novel been written from his point of view, it can be suggested that the Creature would not be viewed as such a monster by society, and readers would have more sympathy for him. The absence causes him to be dehumanised in a similar way to DantĂšs, who is renamed Number 34. Hyde, however, is named, allowing Jekyll s view of his alter ego being natural and human to be more accepted by society. Hyde s naturalness can said to be due to his evilness as he represents the original sin found inside all of us. DantĂšs and the Creature are shunned by society when they are without a name because they are distanced from society. Whilst DantĂšs distance is literal as he has been taken away from Marseille, the Creature s distance remains figurative he follows Frankenstein and is in fact very close to society. His distance stems from his hideousness and the absence of a name to introduce himself by. He is left to forge his own identity which comes as an incredibly hard task. Modern readers have felt sympathy for the Creature in his struggle to be accepted: Shelley s use of his point of view in the novel aids this, however at the time of writing, readers generally viewed the Creature as a ... • 44. C. Wright Mills Sociological Imagination Exploring C. Wright Mills sociological imagination Introduction Many sociologists believe that good sociology has to examine both the structure of a society and social interaction between individuals. It is only by combining the study of the major changes in a society and in individuals lives that one can form an understanding of social life (Haralambos, Holborn, Heald, 2000). People have an irresistible need to explain behaviour, to find the causes of an individual s actions, and therefore make it seem orderly and predictable (Abell, Myers, Sani, 2014). Furthermore, sociologists share the aim of expanding this need for an explanation to the social world as a whole, even if their perspectives and approaches differ. They believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a marriage the spouses may experience personal troubles, but should the divorce rates within a certain amount of years into marriage rise, it indicates a structural issue in the institutions of marriage, and thus becomes a public issue. Conclusion According to Mills, sociology should be about examining the biography of an individual in a wider context of history of societies (Mills, 2000). Sociologists must consider the major institutions of society, not only the personal situation and character of a range of individuals. Sociological imagination allows us to grasp history and biography, examine them together and separately, and their relation in a society. But sociological imagination is not merely an alternative approach for sociologists to play with: it is important to all members of society should they wish to understand, change and improve, not only their lives, but the society in which they live in (Haralambos, Holborn, Heald, 2000). It can be argued that the sociological imagination is crucial in controlling the risks and grasping the potential found in modern societies, and thus giving us an opportunity to improve people s ...
