Device that Can Process the Output of a Guitar Pickup and...
The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar
pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the
projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from
the current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together,
the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each
strings fundamental frequency. The tuning pegis then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a
microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which
utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency.
Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric
guitar, my specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis
and problem solving. I come up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other
devices out there such as Tropical Tune s Self Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our
design has proven durable. The problem we encounter the most is the one deals with actual
hardware, in this case the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of guitars. The
copper wire design that allows for multiple string tuning and is lightweight, which makes this a
convenient, easy to carry tuning device. The

Attempts to Unite the American Colonies before the...
Since the founding of the Thirteen Colonies, the colonists enjoyed a degree of autonomy and self
sufficiency from the mother country, England. The colonies had colonial assemblies, which were
more democratic than England s and were independent governments. British mercantilist laws were
not strictly enforced due to the policy commonly referred to as salutary neglect. However, as the
British increasingly ignore the problems the colonies faced, the colonies began to look for a
common government to lead them. This eventually led to three distinct efforts at intercolonial
cooperation and union: The New England Confederation, Penn s Plan of Union, and The Albany
Plan of Union. Therefore, although there were unsuccessful attempts to unite the... Show more

However, according to the document, attempts by Massachusetts to dominate the alliance
caused the other members to end their participation. The confederation continued until 1684,
when it was dissolved, after an existence of forty one years. The New England Confederation
was a small first step toward formal cooperation among the colonies, but attempts by one of the
colonies to violate the pact helped to break the fragile union. Unlike the New England
Confederation, Penn s Plan of Union was never implemented. However, the plan would unify
the colonies in many ways if it were to be executed. According to Penn s Plan of Union, the
colonies would meet at least once a year; there will be a Congress to resolve issues, and a High
Commissioner to govern the Congress of Union. There will also be a common justice system to
link the colonies further. Nevertheless, the plan will not be utilized due to distrust among colonies,
but it did reflect a need for a common government. One of the last of the colonial plans of union to
be considered before the outbreak of the American Revolution was the Albany Plan of Union.
Proposed by Benjamin Franklin, the plan called for a single executive to be appointed by the King,
who would be responsible for Indian relations, military preparedness, and execution of laws
regulating various trade and financial activities. It called for a Grand Council to be

Fall Of Communism Essay
v The fall of communism in Poland also inspired the fall of communism throughout Eastern Europe
in 1989, in a period sometimes referred to as the Autumn of Nations (a play on the Springtime of
Nations used to describe the 1848 revolutions). Lech Walesa stated in an interview that he and the
Poles lost many battles along the way, but [they] peacefully won the war (qtd. in Morris). A similar,
drawn out process to defeat communismoccurred in other Eastern Bloc countries around this time.
Pope John Paul II once said the following: Freedom is not just something to have and to use, it is
something to be fought for. One must use freedom to build with it personal life as well as the life
of the nation (qtd. in Walesa). Other nations in Eastern Europe followed this path, similar to Poland

The idea however is quite challenging. It reminds me of a young philosopher who is
questioning why bad things happen to good people. Surely it is chance, but what Hardy is
hinting towards is what if it is a bad thing only because we THINK it is a bad thing? It is almost
circular. I do not know much about Hardy but what I do know is that he tried really hard to believe
in god but in the end, he came out completely agnostic. This poem shows that struggle.
Hap is a poem by Thomas Hardy (1840 1928) that he wrote in 1866, while working as a trainee
architect, and for which he could not find a publisher. It did not reach the general public until 1898
when Hardy included it in his first collection, which was entitled Wessex Poems , which only
appeared after he had concluded his career as a highly successful novelist.
The poem is a sonnet, although it is presented as three stanzas in that the traditional octave is split
into two stanzas each of four lines and the sestet is a stanza on its own. The rhyme scheme is
ABAB CDCD EFEFFE, which is a variant on the Shakespearean form, although the clean break
between octave and sestet is more associated with the Petrarchan sonnet form.
The poem can be seen as Hardy s reaction to the basic thinking that underlies Darwin s The Origin
of Species which had been published in 1859. Hardy understood Darwin to imply that the
mechanism that drove natural

The Major Motion Picture Pearl Harbor Essay
Pearl Harbor
The major motion picture, Pearl Harbor, reflects upon a war that occurred a few decades ago
rather than the documentary filmed very shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Both movies
depict the attack as one that will live on in infamy, but the documentary takes a spiteful vengeance
towards Japan because it was filmed during a time of hatred towards the Japanese, our enemy.
While the newer movie has given us time to reflect upon the war and realize that we both
underestimated the enemy and knew very little about the other. While one movie was in black and
white and the other was in color with millions spent on the fighting scenes, they both depict the
same war. I felt that there was too much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a two hour period, 18 ships were sunk or badly damaged including the Arizona, which split in
two then went under; the West Virginia; and the 188 planes were destroyed, and more than 3500
Americans were killed or wounded. Fortunately for the American Pacific fleet, the three aircraft
carriers based at Pearl Harbor were out to sea at the time of the attack.
On the day after, President Roosevelt stood before Congress, and, after declaring December 7,
1941 to be a quot;date that will live in infamy quot;, he urged that a declaration of war be issued.
Meanwhile, half a world away, the Japanese celebrated their victory, but Yamamoto wondered out
loud whether the attack had been the best thing, saying, quot;I fear all we have done is to awaken
a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve. quot; Indeed the Pearl Harbor air raid united
the American people in a way that no other event in the 20th century did.
Pearl Harbor depicts all of this and more the third act is an account of Dolittle s April 1942

possible to argue that Pearl Harbor s agenda is too ambitious for a single motion picture: tell a love

naturally to the tale of what transpired at Pearl Harbor. The movie does many things,

New Housing Advantages And Disadvantages
WHO BENEFITS?New transport infrastructure creates value and there are many stakeholders
who benefit from well places and designed transport infrastructure. To seek a portion of this
newly created value, you firstly need to identify and beneficiaries. Existing residents as many
studies have proven, property prices increase once a major new transport infrastructure is
announced. Residents do not need to wait for the infrastructure to be built, as prices have been
shown to increase as early as the initial announcement. Residents all benefit from reduced
congestion, faster and more reliable journey times, improved quality of life. Research showed
that Melbourne s City Link had created increased land value of $30 billion. The Southern
Railway in Perth showed that there was an uplift in value over 5 years by 42% above base value
uplift for properties in station precincts. For every kilometres a dwelling in Brisbane was located
in proximity of a ferry terminal there was an increase of 4% in price. In London research found
that property within easy reach of a station was worth on average 20,000 pounds more than other
properties. Another benefit New residents will benefit in purchasing a home in a newly developed
area, without having to pay premium city prices with the ability to commute in a reasonable time
to the CBD with the creation of a new railway line. Ongoing benefits will be achieved with new
areas providing a much needed economic activity leading to market

What Does The Clock Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red Death
Benjamin Franklin once said, In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and
taxes. This quote is proven true in many pieces of American Literature from past to present. In
Edgar Allan Poe s, The Masque of the Red Death, the ebony clock, the last chamber, and the
masked figure are used as symbols to represent the uncontrollable outcome of human life and
exemplify the words of Benjamin Franklin. Throughout the work, Poe employs a seemingly
simple ebony clock to symbolize the destined time of life, which no one can control. The clock is
first introduced by describing the pendulum s dull, heavy, monotonous clang , which automatically
gives the idea that the clock is oppressive and evokes fear in both the readers and guests (Poe). As
the story goes on, the characteristics of the clock unfold even more and reveal the emotions and
actions it suggests. For instance, the clock s chiming imposes a start stop movement on the festive...

eerie mood as the guests enter (Poe). The surroundings and colors of the room provide a grim
feeling and also remind the reader of sadness, terror, and death coming for them. The room s
colors reflect what will inescapably happen to them there. Furthermore, the last chamber is the
room in which the visitors died each in the despairing posture of his fall (Poe). The death of all

The Importance Of The During The Renaissance
The Importance Of Military in the Renaissance
The Renaissance was a time of great advancements and the bridging of the medieval era to the
modern era. Along with technological advancements there were advances socially which changed
the feudal mindset and militarily. Military shaped the age we call the Renaissance. The military
shaped the land borders of countries such as France, Russia, The United Kingdom, Sweden and
Austria through conquest. What made the militaries of these important countries powerful was
their ability to dominate on land, in the sea, and what made these nations powerful.
The forces on land in the Renaissance were what mainly dominated warfare in Europe. Many
European countries did not have the means to build a navy, a port to house their navy, or land
which had access to the sea. Some of the most important parts of the armies were the equipment
they used. There were some dominant roles in combat though. These dominant combat roles are
ranged weapons, siege engines, on foot, and on horseback. The main ranged weapons of the
time were Longbows, Crossbows, and Guns. The longbow is superior to it s predecessor the
shortbow. As it sounds the longbow is just a longer version of the shortbow. This added length
gives the user a much more powerful arrow release resulting in the arrow traveling farther and
giving it a greater velocity. The crossbow was very small and stiff bow that is set in the orientation
of a cross. The crossbow had a trigger mechanism that

Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene
Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests
wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential
conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice.
Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like
talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it
is considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to
which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still
within each of them. Instead of their ripped branches symbolizing death and decay, the breaking of
the branches within Inferno13 and The Faerie Queene1.2, give the trees life as if nothing has
changed. While the bleeding infers a loss of identity in both, redeemable only for one of the two, it
also lets their stories be told. Their stories, sad in nature, have redemptive qualities and move the
two pilgrims that listen to their doleful tales. The Inferno illustrates the journey of Dante the
pilgrim as he travels through the nine circles of Hell wherein each circle objectifies a specific sin
like lust, gluttony, greed or violence; there the sinners endure eternal punishment. In the seventh
circle, the circle of violence, Dante interacts with the suicides and profligates. Condemned to live

Male Privilege Analysis
2.Privilege can mean different things depending on whom you ask. So, with its various
associations, should we be using the word privilege in feminist discussions of WGS? After careful
consideration, I would argue that, yes, it should. In fact, rather than a new word, we need further
education about the feminist definition of privilege.
In her piece White Privilege and Male Privilege Peggy, McIntosh defines white privilege as an
invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I
was meant to remain oblivious...like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions . In
using the term privilege as WGS scholars define it, one then begins to realize and look for the
invisible instances of exercised privilege in one s own life. McIntosh does this in her article,
metaphorically unpacking the [invisible knapsack] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is essential because it is through unpacking these individual acts and experiences that we can
begin to realize the larger institutionalized systems of power that are at play, a major advantage of
the word privilege and its meaning. For instance, McIntosh observes, I can, if I wish, arrange to be
in the company of people of my race most of the time. This specific realization then implies that
there are people who cannot make such arrangements, who do not have this specific unearned
asset . In turn, we can begin to see the inherent relationship between privilege and oppression,
another advantage of the term privilege and its meaning. Indeed, Launius and Hassel define
privilege as benefits, advantages, and power that accrue to members of a dominant group as a
result of the oppression of the marginalized group. If WGS scholars were to define privilege
without acknowledging oppression, they would be

Persuasive Essay On Losing Weight
According to the Center for Disease Control over 70% of adults over the age of 20 are
overweight, and 38% of the population are classified as obese (cdc.gov). Every day we are sold
by the idea of The magical cure all , some supplement or diet that will somehow fix every issue
for you. The idea that we can literally change nothing about our lives and drop weight is seductive
and tempting, but ultimately it s utterly false. At its most basic level, losing weight is a math issue
and nothing more. There is no magical pill or supplement that will somehow make you burn all
the extra calories you re intaking everyday. So, with that said we are left with one of two options;
diet, or change your lifestyle. Dietingis defined as restricting oneself to small amounts or special
kind of food in order to lose weight. Instantly with that definition you receive such a negative
connotation to the idea of fat loss. The idea that a person has to Restrict themselves is almost
offensive to the average adult, it simply implies that they have this supreme lack of willpower and
have to force themselves into an uncomfortable position. In 2012 twenty billion dollars was spent in
the weight lossindustry, the average American will attempt to lose weight five times before any
meaningful results (The weight loss industry by the numbers). Even when the diet is successful the
average person on a diet will have recovered all their weight lost plus an additional few pounds six

The Importance Of Financial Support For Curriculum...
Financial Support for Curriculum Development
Money is what makes the world go around, or so that is what we are taught. There are many factors
of curriculum design that focus around the community, whether it is demographics or needs; these
are taken into consideration when determining a new nursing program. Then there are financial
obligations of the institution and program that influence the development and the maintenance of a
curriculum. In this paper the discussion will be based on the financial aspect of nursing programs.

Financial support for curriculum development is an important undertaking while designing the
program. Keating discusses that there are financial factors such as making sure that the program is

This may include hospital chairman, public health officials, as well as stakeholders in the program
itself. By utilizing a committee of people with different backgrounds, the program will have an
approach that would be innovative in structure as well as funding.
In addition, Keating noted that a major resource for program development is at the federal level
through Health Resources and Services Administration, Division of Nursing (2015, p. 174). Keating
also discussed that there are mnay private foundations that allocate funds for nursing programs;
these include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (2015).
These funds both public and private are important in funding nursing programs. Lastly, partnerships
are seen as a way to link health care education with health care agencies. In an article for Colorado
Nurse, it was noted that a program in Colorado explored a program design that partnered with a
local hospital to complete the necessary components to a BSN degree, with a savings of thirty five
percent on tuition (2016). So understanding where the monies are allocated is huge to maintaining a
successful curriculum and program. Keating also discussed that partnerships could assist program
funding, provide work study programs, and even allow students to earn academic credits (2015).
Nursing faculty plays an important role in funding for the program. Administrators and faculty staff

Economic Reforms Of Alexander Hamilton
There were many important people in America s early years after the Revolutionary War. Many
people would argue that George Washington or James Madison may be the most important person
in the 15 years following the Revolutionary War, but there is one person who often gets
overlooked. The most important person from America s beginning years as a country is Alexander
Hamilton because of his economic reforms, his compromise with James Madison and Thomas
Jefferson, and his encouragement of manufacturing. Alexander Hamilton was very influential in
America s early years. He was known for his capitalistic views for America. He wanted America to

James Madison was one of his allies while they were trying to ratify the constitution, but after
James Madison opposed him because of how he assumed the state debts. Madison started a
fierce debate in Congress over this issue because the southern states had paid off more of their
debts than the northern states. His state assumption plan was not passed in Congress, but he did
not give up. He invited Thomas Jefferson and James Madison to dinner in New York City. He
worked to meet a compromise with them within just a night together, and he succeeded. Their
famous compromise decided that the capital would be moved from New York City to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Shipping Insurance
Shipping is an important sector of the Cyprus economy. Consequently, shipping finance is an
essential part of the Cyprus shipping industry. International and national financial institutions may
shape the development of the shipping industry in the island. Apart from banking and financial
institutions, another important dimension that should be taken into account is the provision of
high quality legal services.
Mortgages is an extensively popular tool for ensuring the repayment of a loan or any other
financial obligation of a shipping company toward its creditors. The mortgage is created over a ship
in favour of the creditors. Precisely the Cyprus Merchant Shipping Law No. 45/1963 (Registration

The Cyprus Mortgage System offers some considerable advantages, some of them are listed below:
The details of all registered mortgages are securely filed.
The bureaucratic procedures related to the registration, transfer and discharge of mortgages are not
complicated and rather efficient.
As it was mentioned above, the registration of a mortgage can be held in a Cyprus consul. In
other words, the registration of a mortgage may take place abroad without unnecessary delays
since the date of deposit of the mortgage to a Cyprus consul is considered to be the date of
registration.

The Role Of Robots
I imagine my future with robots, advanced phone, flying cars and much more. A lot of people
think that robots will take over the world and take people s job, etc. Robots are being use to go
to war and taking people s jobs. Robots are operating environment, the relatively high initial cost
of robots means that they tend to be only used by large companies or in defence. It is unlikely
that all the humans will be replaced by robots in any task, it is much more likely that fewer
people will be needed because for many years robots will be assistants. Robots are usually
thought of as being mobile but they don t have to be. For example, washing machines,
dishwashers, and tumble driers can also be thought of as robots. The future is most likely to be
one of productivity gains. They are trying to put brains and several sensors and actuators in
robots. The technology has been available for many years. The advances happening in
technology and it s becoming that evident that computers, machines, robots, and other things are
going to be able to do most of the routine, and repetitive types of jobs. A lot of skills levels fall
into that category. People with college degrees, even professional degrees, also lawyers are doing
things that ultimately are predictable. A lot of those jobs are going to be susceptible over time.
Right now there s still a lot of debate over it. There are economists who think it s totally wrong,
that problems really stem from things like globalization or the fact

Effects of Technology on Social Relationships Essay
As much as I regret to admit it, I m attached to my phone. I m constantly reaching into my pocket
to check the time, make sure I haven t gotten a new update, or to send a message. I do this even
when I m not talking to anyone! It s become an addiction, having to make sure I m not missing
anything, and I m not the only one who has this problem. Seventy five percent of the world
population has a cell phone, and that number will only increase. With the creation of new

You re expected to keep it short and sweet, because most people just want to hear the point and
move on. This is noticeable when you talk to people of different ages. The people who have grown
up using technology keep their conversations quick and easy.
There s no more explaining how your day was; you simply state an adjective to describe it and
people accept that. We have become accustomed to reading about other people s thoughts in a
hundred and forty characters or less. Carr mentions that reading short snippets on the internet
have affected him in other ways, When I mention my troubles with reading to friends and

Matt Richtel, another journalist agrees that focusing has become harder with the increase in the use
of technology. He suggests the reason is because of how we obtain the information. Scientists say
juggling email, phone calls and other incoming information can change how people think and

Escalade Research Paper
The Cadillac Escalade has become the most easily recognizable SUV s on the market today. It
has become the go to car for the rich and famous and the car that many dream of being able to
park in their driveway. Along with all of the notoriety that comes with owning an Escalade,
Cadillac has also designed an SUV that reaches many different age groups. But not only does it
look nice, it was also designed to perform. Cadillac has equipped the Escalade with a 6.2 liter V8
engine that produces 409bhp. The latest edition Escalade now offers an extra 200cc of cubic

the seatbelt pretensioners accordingly. The rear park assist system comes as standard
equipment; it uses the navigation system which links to a rear facing camera to assist drivers
when they are trying to park this large SUV. Other options are a remote start function that is able
to either heat or cool the interior of Escalade to your desired setting making it all the more
comfortable in hot or very cold weather. The Cadillac Escalade has not strayed too far from
what has made it popular among its fans. It has stayed true to the design and aesthetics that have

After going over the movie selection, I decided to watch the movie Gran Torino (2008). This

have a strong influence on others. Walt Kowalski, an old white American man, who is stuck in his
ways and does not take kindly to other races or ethnic groups, but is eventually impacted by Thao

Essay On Mozart Effect
The Mozart Effect, broadly stated, is the idea that music can help with many other aspects of a
student s education. Its research started decades ago and is still highly debated today, with some
condition to the findings. However, in Bob Duke s article, he explains why it doesn t matter
whether of not it helps tests scores. He believes we should not be using this as an excuse for
keeping musicprograms because there are countless better reasons. Duke s article highly
reinforced why I personally believe music education is so important and why I can t wait to be a
part of it.
The Mozart Effect theory first started with research based on the effect of music on the brain. One
of the first to test this was Gordon Shaw and his student Xiaodan ... Show more content on

The first study was done to replicate Shaw s method by testing how music affected two spatial
tasks. In this study, those who listened to Mozart had a higher average test score. As for the other
study, they measured brain wave activity within college students two times, one time after they
listened to a Mozart sonata and once after listening to no music. Lerch and Dr. Anderson stated that
The EEG recordings were somewhat correlated with the students performance, as increased brain
activity was associated with an increase in spatial reasoning performance after listening to the
Mozart .
After this research, the book The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body,
Strengthen the Mind and Unlock the Creative Spirt was written by Don Campbell in 2002.
According to Donna Lerch and Dr. Thomas Anderson of The University of Illinois at Urbana
Champaign, his book claimed that listening to the music of Mozart could raise your intelligence
quotient.
As for Bob Duke s article, he discussed why we shouldn t base the whole reasoning for keeping
music education on tests scores. Even if music may help raise tests scores or make students
smarted, we should not be defending it in this way. Duke explains that if we continue to do this, we
are basing the whole future of music education on test scores.

music education, not just because it has the potential to make

The American Of The United States
The United States is one of the largest countries that are made up of individuals from diverse origins
and cultures. In addition, most foreigners from the other parts of the world migrated to the U.S, or
become American citizens under different circumstances, especially during the 18th, 19th and the
20th centuries. Black Americans for example, arose in the American culture as a result of the
numerous Africans who were being sold to the whites in order for them to work in the cotton and
pyrethrum plantations. Mexican Americans arose as a result of the Mexican Americanwar which
occurred during the 1830s and 1840s, where Mexico conceded defeat and surrendered part of its
territory to the United States. After the end of this war, the Mexicans who were residing in the
surrendered Mexican land territory were transferred to the U.S, and most of them were located in
California and the present day New Mexico (Kos 2011). Just like the African Americans and the
other cultures that were being considered inferior by the white Americans, the Mexican Americans
started experiencing oppression in various ways including social and economic oppression, soon
after their migration to the U.S. and which continues to this day, this country of freedom needs to
be legitimately free not just white native born Americans, but everyone that calls the United States
home and the Mexican immigrants that settle in the southwest deserve the freedoms this country
provides, and not be economically oppressed

approximately 46 percent, do not live at the addresses posted on the sex offender registry, and
many sex offenders (approximately 285 sex offenders released from prison as of May 1999)

it is not only the offender s confidentiality that is violated (Freeman Longo, 2000, p. 6). People
often abuse the law of the sex offender registry list and provide too much information. In many
cases the names of family members, friends, and the victim s name is made public. The family
members can be shamed and abused by society for things they could not control. When a victim s
name is made public, he or she may feel even more desecrated, and often times it can cause the

The Generation X And Generation Y
In this study, the most interesting insight I read that the article distinguishes two generations,
generation X and generation Y, they have varied on expectation of life. Additionally, the employer
should realize to diversities of employee personality in the organization, which might contribute to
making a conflict in teamwork such as having the different attitude, not understanding in other
characteristics, confident of subconscious and so on. The generation X, who is composed of the
parent of generation Y (born between 1965 and 1981), this generation has an optimistic aspect, and
also prefer having life balances with working hard. In contrast, the generation Y (born between
1982 and 2000), the generation Y (born between 1982 and 2000), who grew up with enslavement

which might helpful to make deduction of working in the future.
However, I think the personal behavior depends on education developmental, nation cultural and the
environment where is they grew up, especially the influence of family affects to new generation
thinking. As can be seen in the study of the authors of attitude to work shows that the means for
attitudes to work both for individuals in generation X and Y are slightly different, it might because
of the nation cultural. For example , Thai cultural is always taught young people that they should

Lovers Quarrels in Love, 20 cents the First Quarter Mile
Kenneth Fearing s poem Love, 20 cents the First Quarter Mile, expresses the wide range of
emotions experienced in an argument. The poem depicts the all too familiar situation of a lover s
quarrel in which the persona, whom we can assume is male, struggles to resolve an argument during
a taxi ride. During his attempts to resolve the quarrel, the persona experiences a variety of emotions
ranging from apologetic to accusatory to sarcastic to romantic. In this poem, the reader gains a
personal insight into the conflicting and rapidly changing feelings of the persona.

her for being beautiful and generous and wise...and for being alive (19 20). However, just as
suddenly as his emotions turned from apologetic to sarcastic, they change again; this time from
sarcastic to placating. He softly says:
Because tonight you are in my hair and eyes,/ And every street light that our taxi passes shows me
you again,/ still you,/ And because tonight all other nights are black, all other hours are/ cold and

The Impact Of Communication On The Workplace Essay
2.0 Findings and discussion
2.1 Communication in the work place
In management, planning, leading, organising and having control over the organisation requires
one to have good communication skills in order to ensure that fellow colleagues and employees are
able to work efficiently and effectively (Robbins Coulter, 2016). Therefore, in an organisational
context, communication is a medium of either verbal or non verbal communication within a specific
context (Louw and du Ploy Cilliers, 2014).
2.1.1 Role in the workplace
Communication has several purposes in the work place that include things like negotiating,
conflict management discussing and resolving work issues as well as influencing and
persuading others just to name a few. In the movie Piers Morgan struggles to communicate
effectively with Omarosa as there is no mutual respect between them regarding the work they
both need to do in the work place. In order for an organisation to be successful, it is essential for
both management and subordinates to have clear and good communication skills as for
management it provides a form of power and dominance over employees. In the Apprentice,
Donald Trump is the boss and he assigns managers to every team for specific tasks. In one of the
tasks, Piers Morgan was the project manager of the task and him and Omarosa were on the same
team and were not Seeing Eye to eye and thus Piers had no dominance or power over Omarosa as

Issues Dealing With Time Management
Issues in My Workplace
MERCY COLLEGE
Joshua Louis
Abstract
This paper will discuss some of the things that I deal with in my workplace as an Environmental
Service Aide in a hospital one example of this deals with time management issues. The biggest
issues dealing with time management at my job are job quality and completion. This is because
staff may try to complete their tasks too quickly in order to meet time restrictions. It is also
important when it comes to the scheduling and payroll departments because some of the staff can
go over in their hours. For example, the people that are hired part time are getting full time hours
to cover staff that may call out or become sick. This can impede our budget and send us into
overtime. There are staff training issues as well because of time management. This is a very
critical issue because people that are new hires must be trained in their certain roles and if they do
not know how to do something correctly they cannot work efficiently at the hospital.
Another issue I face in my workplace are communications issues. Communication is the livelihood
of an organization and, without it, things will not get done and topics may need to be
communicated from one peer to the next for ensure patient care. Organizations and employees may
lack the ability to learn, use, and exploit information without good communication practices. Most
the problems in my workplace also deal with the lacking of supplies and items

Evolution Of Female Leads In Film
The Evolution of Female Leads in Film The role of female lead characters in film has evolved in
a positive way since the beginning of cinema. During the early years of Hollywood female
characters were secondary characters with little importance, with many films not including them at

The lead character, Ryan Stone, is a strong and intelligent character. Much like Ellen Ripley, she
not only has great strength, but is also haunted by her past. She explains to Kowalski while they
are floating through space that her daughter was killed in a random accident, and by the tone of
her voice the audience can tell that she is greatly troubled by her loss. The way Gravity
progresses the evolution of female leads in film is through the treatment of Ryan. Not only is
her invention the sole reason of their trip to the space station, but she remains the main focus
throughout the entire film. After the space station is destroyed by the debris, the audience is
then placed into Ryan s point of view as she is sent toppling through space. Later on in the film,
after Kowalski detaches himself from her so that at least one of them will survive, Stone
becomes the only character the viewer sees for the remainder of the film. The leading women in
The Philadelphia Story and Aliens have much less screen time than Ryan. This complete focus on
the female lead character allows the audience to completely immerse themselves into her point of
view, which in turn provides the viewer the ability to fully sympathize and care about her as a
character. This combined with Ryan s complexity as a character, ability to progress the plot and
eventually save herself from a horrific catastrophe, makes Gravity film s

Lennie and George Relationship in Steinbeck s Novel Essay
In this chapter of the novel, Steinbeck uses a lot of visual elements, strong dialect,
symbolism, tone and theme. Much of these elements are shown right from the beginning of
the chapter when the two men, Lennie and George arrive at the bunk house. Right from the
first sentence, the tone and imagery is already set off by introducing the walls [being]
whitewashed and the floor unpainted.(p17) In addition, he also introduces the bunks, also
re enforcing the tone since the bunks are described as ...burlap sack of straw that was a
mattress.(p18) At this point, George is realizing that not only does he have challenges by
dealing with George, but he also has to live in this environment where things are not ... Show more

In addition to the theme of disposability, the theme
of social isolation is also quite apparent. For example, when the boss was getting suspicious of
George answering all of Lennies questions by commenting that Lennie [wasn t] much of a
talker, is he?(p21) and also by asking then why don t you let him answer? What are you trying
put over?(p21) If the boss found out then the truth about Lennie, he would have immediately
asked them to leave. Furthermore, the theme of social isolation is vividly displayed with Crooks,
just because of his skin color, gives the boss rights to give the stable buck hell (p19) whenever
he is upset at something.
The whole message Steinbeck is trying to convey through this chapter in the novel is
basically this ranch is like a mini society. Anyone in this society can hold power, and when they
get into that position of power over others, they use it in irresponsible ways. For example even
though the boss is the top of the social heirchy, his son Curley seems to have more power over
the workers there than he does. Also, because of his position in the social pyramid , Curley can
tangle with any one of the workers without any troubles, however if Lennie, for example,
tangles with Curley him

The Dynamics of Brice Family
Brice Family Dynamics
Presenting Problems Overall, the Brice family has some clear issues that are causing stress for
everyone, including their adolescent daughter Claudia. The family did not believe in the power
of family therapy, yet they had little places to turn to in response to Claudia s growing anger
problems. They had tried therapy before, but to no avail. We are introduced to their problems both
from a description of the anger between each other and their own explanations of what is going on.
Their son Don is absent, both literally and figuratively, showing how he tends to avoid the overall
family struggles. Claudia s role in the family dynamic was described early on by her mother, yet
this explanation was done in a very isolating way for Claudia. Her mother explained her strange
ideas, but that only invoked a strong and angry reaction from Claudia herself. In fact, the two
seemed to feed off one another in terms of their anger. It is clear that the main issues were a
discrepancy between what Claudia wanted her life to be like and the heightened rules and
expectations her family was imposing on her. Mother and daughter continuously engaged in
fighting, clearly not seeing each others point of view, but too caught up in their own emotional
reactions regarding the situation. The fact that Don wasn t present just put more highlight on
Claudia, and showed how the family viewed her as the problem, not taking responsibility for it
themselves. This was felt by

Kant’s Deontology
Religion Philosophy Essay
a) What are the central features of Kant s deontolgy?
Immanuel Kant believed that to live a good life is to lead a life of happiness. This is not saying
that people should only live a life that brings them pleasure and satisfaction, as is often argued in
Utilitarianism. Rather it is saying that to live a moral life is to live in a state of peace. For Kant,
the Summum Bonum (highest good) describes the ideal, where there is both virtue and happiness.
In The Fundamental Principles Kant speaks of a very comprehensive moral argument. This is of
the Good Will in which he says Nothing can possibly be conceived in the world, or even out of it,
which can be called good, without qualification, except a Good ... Show more content on

We are always influenced in our thinking and our intentions and attitudes change due to those
around us. Aristotle said Man is a social animal , which means that man enjoys the association of
others and may derive many advantages from it as well as alterations in thinking.
Universalisability supports the idea that it would not be fair for one person to follow a maxim
while another was criticized for acting the same way. However, after Kant gives the first
formulation of the categorical imperative, he offers four examples of the way maxims can be
derived from moral law. One of the maxims always tell the truth results from the irrationality of
breaking a promise.
This is a big disadvantage because Kant says you have a moral duty to tell the truth to an
inquiring murderer about the location of the person he is looking for. Like in the case of the
inquiring murderer, Kant does not come up with a way to resolve conflicts between the maxims:
you should not lie and you should save lives . Both are good maxims but if you follow one of the
maxims (don t lie), then you cannot follow the other (save lives). Other conflicts similar to this
would also be unresolved although Kant argues that you cannot know the future and all the other
variables involved, and

Essay Nick s Self-Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time
Nick s Self Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time
The focus of this essay will be to analyze Nick s transition as he moves from mental isolation, to
physical isolation, to maturation and self discovery.
If Nick s life were to be chronologically ordered and analyzed, the stories Indian Camp and The
Doctor and the Doctor s Wife would definitely come first. It is these two stories that give us the
first insight to what kind of character that Nick really is as a child. Because Nick is only
mentioned briefly in the latter story, I think that Indian Camp is more significant in analyzing the
portrayal of his character. I suppose the one passage that truly gives insight about the innocence
(and ignorance) of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The significance of the quote, It isn t fun any more. Not any of it (34) is the absence of emotion
and meaning in his life. Obviously, the way in which Nick broke up with Marjorie is that he
was searching for something in life that was not yet to be found; not in her or, as it appears,
anyone. It is this hollowness that I think directly relates back to his relationship with his father
and is the same lack of emotion that lead Nick to go to war and to continue wandering by himself
after he returns. It is this same emotion (or lack there of) that is apparent in The Three Day Blow, as
well. Though he expresses some remorse over his break up with Marge ( All he knew is that he
had once had Marjorie and that he had lost her (47)), I truly believe that there was something else
that deeply troubled Nick. It is in these two stories, however, that the reader can begin to infer that
Nick, though once a content child who would never die, is now searching for something in life,
whether it be adequacy or meaning. Thus, these stories are important because they show his
maturation and make a preface for the events that follow.
The Battler seems to be the culmination of Nick s psuedo depression that is sensed in the two
stories before it. The reader can infer that, whether to leave his parents, to seek meaning in life, or
just for adventure, Nick has taken on the life of a

Being Belle In The High School Musical Beauty And The Beast
As Isaac Marion once said, Every experience, good or bad, is a priceless collector s item. In life, I
have experienced the highest of my highs and lowest of my lows. I have been bullied to the
point where I could not leave my room. I have also been with a group of people where I could not
speak a coherent sentence because we were laughing so much. Each experiencehas impacted me in
some way, whether it was big or small, and has shaped me for the better or worse. Being Belle in
the high school musical Beauty and the Beast was an experience that improved my
organizational skills, changed how I approached a crowd, and changed how my peers saw me and
how I saw myself. As a result of the musical, I have bettered my organizational skills. Since I was
a child, I enjoyed organizing. While I grew older, my organization skills reflected my age.... Show

I could hear people whisper statements such as, Wow, I didn t know she could sing or We all
know how she landed the part. As my brother said, You were a boring piece of glass, but you
became a kaleidoscope. Prior to the musical, I was like glass. A person could see right through
me because I was one level. I was smart, and the majority of my class, athletic (SC 2). Before the
musical, academics was the only activity that people recognized me by. I did do other activities
besides academics, but only my closest friends knew that I could play the piano or draw. Just like
my peers, my mother didn t even know I could sing.
Consequently, the musical helped change how others saw me. Suddenly, people realized I was
more than just a girl who had a 4.0 GPA. People who I had never talked to before knew my name.
When I walked down the hall, I felt like a celebrity such as Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Lawrence,
Natalie Portman or Julia Roberts, Emma Stone or Sandra Bullock because people would randomly

Amtelecom Group
1. What does it mean if a company trades at a discount ? Is Amtelecom Group Inc. (AGI) really
trading at a discount?
If the market value of a stock is lower than its intrinsic value, this stock is defined as trades at a
discount . To figure out whether AGI stock is traded at a discount to comparable companies, as its
management believed, we can simply apply multiple which comes from the average multiple of its
comparable companies. Considering fluctuation of future after tax earnings caused by the change in
capital structure, we prefer to use TEV/EBITDA multiple in this case. Amtelecom Group consists of
two lines of business which has to been taken into consideration. We separately calculate the value
of both companies and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.2 Strengths and weaknesses of Amtelecom Communications
Strength: Amtelecom Communications is the sole provider of local telephone services in all of its
exchanges and a leading provider of long distance and data services in the majority of his
exchanges. As a sole provider of some services, Amtelecom Communications ensures the constant
revenue and customers. Its subsidiary, Amtelecom Cable inc. has eight stand alone systems exempt
from licensing. The cost advantage ensures the leading position of Amtelecom Communications.
Weakness: Amtelecom Communication s telecommunication business occupies 90 percent of its all
business. If there is an unforeseeable risk occurring in telecommunications, the company may suffer
devastating loss. Company should focus more on new growth point, such as internet and service
innovation.
4. Assess the value of Amtelecom Communications using available valuation methods including
DCF and multiples. Which valuation method is most suitable for each sales alternative? What are
the expected net proceeds for each sales alternative?
Because the management of AGI expects to complete the acquisition by early 2003, the valuation
of the Amtelecom Communication should be calculated for 31 Dec, 2002. In order to calculate the
NPV of Amtelecom Communication during the planning period, we first use pro forma

Compare And Contrast Odysseus And The Nostos
Nostos in its most simple form, means a heroes homecoming. It is a common theme used in
ancient Greek literary works. Homecoming is a great deal to heroes in the ancient epics, as it is
the final step to claiming their kleos (glory). Homer uses this as his main theme in his epic poem
the Odyssey, as it shows the main character Odysseusyearning to return home to Ithaca after
twenty years of being away. The poem portrays Odysseus journey home, however, during his
journey he is constantly driven off course. After ten years, with the help of his main protector, the
goddess Athena, Odysseus finally makes it back home to Ithaca where he reclaims his identity.
Later in 19BC, Vergil who was a roman poet, uses nostos as one of the themes in his epic poem the
Aeneid. The poem portrays the main character Aeneas as a dutiful hero, who has to flee his home,
Troy, and is destined to found Rome (Verg. Aen.1.1). Odysseus and Aeneas nostos are both similar
in the sense that they encounter some of the same sights, they leave behind woman in order to
continue on with their journey and they deal with supernatural forces. On the contrary, the two
heroes are completely different in their motivation. Aeneas reason for his journey is due to his
destiny and duty to establish home for his people. Odysseus, on the other hand has different
reasons as to why he longs to return home. Firstly, he wishes to return to his wife Penelope and his
son Telemachus. Secondly, he tries to attain his

The Problem For The Nhs
A nurse said to me recently that the main problem for the NHS is Holby City; oh I think she meant
obesity.
Yes, the ban leaves a bitter taste in my mouth... even though... In July, I was targeted by a sugary
drink, it bombed me from a great height, it landed a couple of feet away, like a cluster bomb I was
covered; alas I recall the stickiness was decidedly vile. I turned the air blue in response... how I hate
sugary drinks. I suspect a sugar addicted fiend was the culprit; high as a kite no doubt. Maybe Tesco
s marketing team were subjected to a summer of sugar y attacks by spotty yobs who sugar rushed
about on sugar powered scooters. How I long for the days when our future generation simply
chillaxd on Morrissey or were semi comatose on smoking weeds from the wastelands: yeeah, zis is
mean man; tastes of bonfire.
43 Tesco stores have closed this past year on the back of fraudulent financing projections,
designed to dupe shareholders and investors. You could denote that the brand has been forced to
restructure of unprecedented proportions going into 2016 therefore offering an ethical feel good
kick for their consumers i.e. ban sugary drinks due to UK s obesity conundrum. Those who re
marketing savvy knew the 10 point plan was in the pipeline albeit, it s a headline catcher, leaning
on the bandwagon wheel of novice do good reporting. The real balance is, whether or not Tesco is

Morrisseau s life and work were an area of interest to many scholars; this is due to the life that
was full of events that Morrisseau lived, and due to how sensational his artwork was. Hence, many
scholars wrote about Morrisseau, such as Cameron Robertson. Robertson was an Indigenous
scholar and associate professor of contemporary Indigenous art history at University of Regina
(Canada). She is the current president of the Norval Morrisseau Heritage Society . Robertson wrote
a monograph on Morrisseau media constructed life juxtaposed with his art works. She analyzed the

The Optimization Problem Of Matlab Routines
Relevant numerical techniques, which have been done with the help of MATLAB routines, are
applied to solve the arising optimization problem and to find the optimum parameters of the TMD.
For a given mass ratio, Вµ, one can assume different values of the frequency ratio, f, and for each
frequency ratio assuming a range of dampingfactor О¶2 of the TMD and estimate the optimum
parameters that minimize a certain desired output. Fig. 8 is an example of the numerical
optimizationconducted to estimate the optimal frequency ratio and damping factor of the TMD for
two different mass ratios under windloads modeled as white noise. The optimization is based on the
minimization of the displacement of the primary structure. In this numerical optimization, the
responses of the primary structure are normalized, which means that the response obtained with the
TMD when attached to the structure is divided by the corresponding response obtained without the
TMD. The optimal values of the frequency ratio and the damping factor of the TMD are written on
the subfigures. It is shown that a TMD with 1% mass ratio can provide a significant reduction in
the displacement response of the primary structure. The reduction in the displacement depends very
much on the tuning frequency and the damping ratio of the TMD. By increasing the mass ratio
from 1% to 5%, the displacement response of the primary structure is reduced. However, the TMD
with 5% mass ratio is more robust to the changes in the frequency

  • 2. Device that Can Process the Output of a Guitar Pickup and... The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from the current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together, the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. The tuning pegis then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric guitar, my specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis and problem solving. I come up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other devices out there such as Tropical Tune s Self Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our design has proven durable. The problem we encounter the most is the one deals with actual hardware, in this case the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of guitars. The copper wire design that allows for multiple string tuning and is lightweight, which makes this a convenient, easy to carry tuning device. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Attempts to Unite the American Colonies before the... Since the founding of the Thirteen Colonies, the colonists enjoyed a degree of autonomy and self sufficiency from the mother country, England. The colonies had colonial assemblies, which were more democratic than England s and were independent governments. British mercantilist laws were not strictly enforced due to the policy commonly referred to as salutary neglect. However, as the British increasingly ignore the problems the colonies faced, the colonies began to look for a common government to lead them. This eventually led to three distinct efforts at intercolonial cooperation and union: The New England Confederation, Penn s Plan of Union, and The Albany Plan of Union. Therefore, although there were unsuccessful attempts to unite the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, according to the document, attempts by Massachusetts to dominate the alliance caused the other members to end their participation. The confederation continued until 1684, when it was dissolved, after an existence of forty one years. The New England Confederation was a small first step toward formal cooperation among the colonies, but attempts by one of the colonies to violate the pact helped to break the fragile union. Unlike the New England Confederation, Penn s Plan of Union was never implemented. However, the plan would unify the colonies in many ways if it were to be executed. According to Penn s Plan of Union, the colonies would meet at least once a year; there will be a Congress to resolve issues, and a High Commissioner to govern the Congress of Union. There will also be a common justice system to link the colonies further. Nevertheless, the plan will not be utilized due to distrust among colonies, but it did reflect a need for a common government. One of the last of the colonial plans of union to be considered before the outbreak of the American Revolution was the Albany Plan of Union. Proposed by Benjamin Franklin, the plan called for a single executive to be appointed by the King, who would be responsible for Indian relations, military preparedness, and execution of laws regulating various trade and financial activities. Fall Of Communism Essay v The fall of communism in Poland also inspired the fall of communism throughout Eastern Europe in 1989, in a period sometimes referred to as the Autumn of Nations (a play on the Springtime of Nations used to describe the 1848 revolutions). Lech Walesa stated in an interview that he and the Poles lost many battles along the way, but [they] peacefully won the war (qtd. in Morris). A similar, drawn out process to defeat communismoccurred in other Eastern Bloc countries around this time. Pope John Paul II once said the following: Freedom is not just something to have and to use, it is something to be fought for. One must use freedom to build with it personal life as well as the life of the nation (qtd. in Walesa). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea however is quite challenging. It reminds me of a young philosopher who is questioning why bad things happen to good people. Surely it is chance, but what Hardy is hinting towards is what if it is a bad thing only because we THINK it is a bad thing? It is almost circular. I do not know much about Hardy but what I do know is that he tried really hard to believe in god but in the end, he came out completely agnostic. This poem shows that struggle. Hap is a poem by Thomas Hardy (1840 1928) that he wrote in 1866, while working as a trainee architect, and for which he could not find a publisher. It did not reach the general public until 1898 when Hardy included it in his first collection, which was entitled Wessex Poems , which only appeared after he had concluded his career as a highly successful novelist. The poem is a sonnet, although it is presented as three stanzas in that the traditional octave is split into two stanzas each of four lines and the sestet is a stanza on its own. The rhyme scheme is ABAB CDCD EFEFFE, which is a variant on the Shakespearean form, although the clean break between octave and sestet is more associated with the Petrarchan sonnet form. The poem can be seen as Hardy s reaction to the basic thinking that underlies Darwin s The Origin of Species which had been published in 1859. Hardy understood Darwin to imply that the mechanism that drove natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Major Motion Picture Pearl Harbor Essay Pearl Harbor The major motion picture, Pearl Harbor, reflects upon a war that occurred a few decades ago rather than the documentary filmed very shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Both movies depict the attack as one that will live on in infamy, but the documentary takes a spiteful vengeance towards Japan because it was filmed during a time of hatred towards the Japanese, our enemy. While the newer movie has given us time to reflect upon the war and realize that we both underestimated the enemy and knew very little about the other. Fortunately for the American Pacific fleet, the three aircraft carriers based at Pearl Harbor were out to sea at the time of the attack. On the day after, President Roosevelt stood before Congress, and, after declaring December 7, 1941 to be a quot;date that will live in infamy quot;, he urged that a declaration of war be issued. Meanwhile, half a world away, the Japanese celebrated their victory, but Yamamoto wondered out loud whether the attack had been the best thing, saying, quot;I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve. quot; Indeed the Pearl Harbor air raid united the American people in a way that no other event in the 20th century did. New Housing Advantages And Disadvantages WHO BENEFITS?New transport infrastructure creates value and there are many stakeholders who benefit from well places and designed transport infrastructure. To seek a portion of this newly created value, you firstly need to identify and beneficiaries. Existing residents as many studies have proven, property prices increase once a major new transport infrastructure is announced. Residents do not need to wait for the infrastructure to be built, as prices have been shown to increase as early as the initial announcement. Residents all benefit from reduced congestion, faster and more reliable journey times, improved quality of life. Research showed that Melbourne s City Link had created increased land value of $30 billion. The Southern Railway in Perth showed that there was an uplift in value over 5 years by 42% above base value uplift for properties in station precincts. For every kilometres a dwelling in Brisbane was located in proximity of a ferry terminal there was an increase of 4% in price. In London research found that property within easy reach of a station was worth on average 20,000 pounds more than other properties. Another benefit New residents will benefit in purchasing a home in a newly developed area, without having to pay premium city prices with the ability to commute in a reasonable time to the CBD with the creation of a new railway line. • 11. What Does The Clock Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red Death Benjamin Franklin once said, In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. This quote is proven true in many pieces of American Literature from past to present. In Edgar Allan Poe s, The Masque of the Red Death, the ebony clock, the last chamber, and the masked figure are used as symbols to represent the uncontrollable outcome of human life and exemplify the words of Benjamin Franklin. Throughout the work, Poe employs a seemingly simple ebony clock to symbolize the destined time of life, which no one can control. The clock is first introduced by describing the pendulum s dull, heavy, monotonous clang , which automatically gives the idea that the clock is oppressive and evokes fear in both the readers and guests (Poe). As the story goes on, the characteristics of the clock unfold even more and reveal the emotions and actions it suggests. The surroundings and colors of the room provide a grim feeling and also remind the reader of sadness, terror, and death coming for them. The room s colors reflect what will inescapably happen to them there. Furthermore, the last chamber is the room in which the visitors died each in the despairing posture of his fall (Poe). • 12. The Importance Of The During The Renaissance The Importance Of Military in the Renaissance The Renaissance was a time of great advancements and the bridging of the medieval era to the modern era. Along with technological advancements there were advances socially which changed the feudal mindset and militarily. Military shaped the age we call the Renaissance. The military shaped the land borders of countries such as France, Russia, The United Kingdom, Sweden and Austria through conquest. What made the militaries of these important countries powerful was their ability to dominate on land, in the sea, and what made these nations powerful. The forces on land in the Renaissance were what mainly dominated warfare in Europe. Many European countries did not have the means to build a navy, a port to house their navy, or land which had access to the sea. Some of the most important parts of the armies were the equipment they used. There were some dominant roles in combat though. These dominant combat roles are ranged weapons, siege engines, on foot, and on horseback. The main ranged weapons of the time were Longbows, Crossbows, and Guns. The longbow is superior to it s predecessor the shortbow. As it sounds the longbow is just a longer version of the shortbow. This added length gives the user a much more powerful arrow release resulting in the arrow traveling farther and giving it a greater velocity. The crossbow was very small and stiff bow that is set in the orientation of a cross. The crossbow had a trigger mechanism that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice. Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it is considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still within each of them. Instead of their ripped branches symbolizing death and decay, the breaking of the branches within Inferno13 and The Faerie Queene1.2, give the trees life as if nothing has changed. While the bleeding infers a loss of identity in both, redeemable only for one of the two, it also lets their stories be told. Their stories, sad in nature, have redemptive qualities and move the two pilgrims that listen to their doleful tales. The Inferno illustrates the journey of Dante the pilgrim as he travels through the nine circles of Hell wherein each circle objectifies a specific sin like lust, gluttony, greed or violence; there the sinners endure eternal punishment. In her piece White Privilege and Male Privilege Peggy, McIntosh defines white privilege as an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious...like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions . In using the term privilege as WGS scholars define it, one then begins to realize and look for the invisible instances of exercised privilege in one s own life. McIntosh does this in her article, metaphorically unpacking the [invisible knapsack] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is essential because it is through unpacking these individual acts and experiences that we can begin to realize the larger institutionalized systems of power that are at play, a major advantage of the word privilege and its meaning. For instance, McIntosh observes, I can, if I wish, arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time. This specific realization then implies that there are people who cannot make such arrangements, who do not have this specific unearned asset . In turn, we can begin to see the inherent relationship between privilege and oppression, another advantage of the term privilege and its meaning. Indeed, Launius and Hassel define privilege as benefits, advantages, and power that accrue to members of a dominant group as a result of the oppression of the marginalized group. Persuasive Essay On Losing Weight According to the Center for Disease Control over 70% of adults over the age of 20 are overweight, and 38% of the population are classified as obese (cdc.gov). Every day we are sold by the idea of The magical cure all , some supplement or diet that will somehow fix every issue for you. The idea that we can literally change nothing about our lives and drop weight is seductive and tempting, but ultimately it s utterly false. At its most basic level, losing weight is a math issue and nothing more. There is no magical pill or supplement that will somehow make you burn all the extra calories you re intaking everyday. So, with that said we are left with one of two options; diet, or change your lifestyle. Dietingis defined as restricting oneself to small amounts or special kind of food in order to lose weight. Instantly with that definition you receive such a negative connotation to the idea of fat loss. The idea that a person has to Restrict themselves is almost offensive to the average adult, it simply implies that they have this supreme lack of willpower and have to force themselves into an uncomfortable position. In 2012 twenty billion dollars was spent in the weight lossindustry, the average American will attempt to lose weight five times before any meaningful results (The weight loss industry by the numbers). Keating also discussed that there are mnay private foundations that allocate funds for nursing programs; these include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (2015). The poem depicts the all too familiar situation of a lover s quarrel in which the persona, whom we can assume is male, struggles to resolve an argument during a taxi ride. During his attempts to resolve the quarrel, the persona experiences a variety of emotions ranging from apologetic to accusatory to sarcastic to romantic. In this poem, the reader gains a personal insight into the conflicting and rapidly changing feelings of the persona. The first stanza of the poem leads the reader to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the next stanza, we see the persona adopting a rather sarcastic attitude, stating that he will forgive his companion for everything (18). Evidently she has depicted herself as being totally innocent and without fault in the quarrel, giving him a reason to sardonically state that he forgives her for being beautiful and generous and wise...and for being alive (19 20). However, just as suddenly as his emotions turned from apologetic to sarcastic, they change again; this time from sarcastic to placating. He softly says: Because tonight you are in my hair and eyes,/ And every street light that our taxi passes shows me you again,/ still you,/ And because tonight all other nights are black, all other hours are/ cold and far away, and now, this minute, the stars are very/ near and bright(22 27). • 37. The Impact Of Communication On The Workplace Essay 2.0 Findings and discussion 2.1 Communication in the work place In management, planning, leading, organising and having control over the organisation requires one to have good communication skills in order to ensure that fellow colleagues and employees are able to work efficiently and effectively (Robbins Coulter, 2016). Therefore, in an organisational context, communication is a medium of either verbal or non verbal communication within a specific context (Louw and du Ploy Cilliers, 2014). 2.1.1 Role in the workplace Communication has several purposes in the work place that include things like negotiating, conflict management discussing and resolving work issues as well as influencing and persuading others just to name a few. In the movie Piers Morgan struggles to communicate effectively with Omarosa as there is no mutual respect between them regarding the work they both need to do in the work place. In order for an organisation to be successful, it is essential for both management and subordinates to have clear and good communication skills as for management it provides a form of power and dominance over employees. In the Apprentice, Donald Trump is the boss and he assigns managers to every team for specific tasks. In one of the tasks, Piers Morgan was the project manager of the task and him and Omarosa were on the same team and were not Seeing Eye to eye and thus Piers had no dominance or power over Omarosa as there was a lack of mutual respect and cooperation from ... • 39. Issues Dealing With Time Management Issues in My Workplace MERCY COLLEGE Joshua Louis Abstract This paper will discuss some of the things that I deal with in my workplace as an Environmental Service Aide in a hospital one example of this deals with time management issues. The biggest issues dealing with time management at my job are job quality and completion. This is because staff may try to complete their tasks too quickly in order to meet time restrictions. It is also important when it comes to the scheduling and payroll departments because some of the staff can go over in their hours. For example, the people that are hired part time are getting full time hours to cover staff that may call out or become sick. This can impede our budget and send us into overtime. There are staff training issues as well because of time management. This is a very critical issue because people that are new hires must be trained in their certain roles and if they do not know how to do something correctly they cannot work efficiently at the hospital. Another issue I face in my workplace are communications issues. Communication is the livelihood of an organization and, without it, things will not get done and topics may need to be communicated from one peer to the next for ensure patient care. Organizations and employees may lack the ability to learn, use, and exploit information without good communication practices. During the early years of Hollywood female characters were secondary characters with little importance, with many films not including them at all. However, over time women leads in filmbecame more complex and have evolved into multidimensional characters. This evolution started in the 1940 s with films such as The Philadelphia Story, continued with Aliens in the 1980 s, and has led to the fantastic characters that exist in films such as Gravity in 2014. The lead character, Ryan Stone, is a strong and intelligent character. Much like Ellen Ripley, she not only has great strength, but is also haunted by her past. She explains to Kowalski while they are floating through space that her daughter was killed in a random accident, and by the tone of her voice the audience can tell that she is greatly troubled by her loss. The way Gravity progresses the evolution of female leads in film is through the treatment of Ryan. Not only is her invention the sole reason of their trip to the space station, but she remains the main focus throughout the entire film. After the space station is destroyed by the debris, the audience is then placed into Ryan s point of view as she is sent toppling through space. Later on in the film, after Kowalski detaches himself from her so that at least one of them will survive, Stone becomes the only character the viewer sees for the remainder of the film. The leading women in The Philadelphia Story and Aliens have much less screen time than Ryan. This complete focus on the female lead character allows the audience to completely immerse themselves into her point of view, which in turn provides the viewer the ability to fully sympathize and care about her as a character. • 42. Lennie and George Relationship in Steinbeck s Novel Essay In this chapter of the novel, Steinbeck uses a lot of visual elements, strong dialect, symbolism, tone and theme. Much of these elements are shown right from the beginning of the chapter when the two men, Lennie and George arrive at the bunk house. Right from the first sentence, the tone and imagery is already set off by introducing the walls [being] whitewashed and the floor unpainted.(p17) In addition, he also introduces the bunks, also re enforcing the tone since the bunks are described as ...burlap sack of straw that was a mattress.(p18) At this point, George is realizing that not only does he have challenges by dealing with George, but he also has to live in this environment where things are not ... What are you trying put over?(p21) If the boss found out then the truth about Lennie, he would have immediately asked them to leave. Furthermore, the theme of social isolation is vividly displayed with Crooks, just because of his skin color, gives the boss rights to give the stable buck hell (p19) whenever he is upset at something. The whole message Steinbeck is trying to convey through this chapter in the novel is basically this ranch is like a mini society. Anyone in this society can hold power, and when they get into that position of power over others, they use it in irresponsible ways. For example even though the boss is the top of the social heirchy, his son Curley seems to have more power over the workers there than he does. The Dynamics of Brice Family Brice Family Dynamics Presenting Problems Overall, the Brice family has some clear issues that are causing stress for everyone, including their adolescent daughter Claudia. The family did not believe in the power of family therapy, yet they had little places to turn to in response to Claudia s growing anger problems. They had tried therapy before, but to no avail. We are introduced to their problems both from a description of the anger between each other and their own explanations of what is going on. Their son Don is absent, both literally and figuratively, showing how he tends to avoid the overall family struggles. Claudia s role in the family dynamic was described early on by her mother, yet this explanation was done in a very isolating way for Claudia. Her mother explained her strange ideas, but that only invoked a strong and angry reaction from Claudia herself. In fact, the two seemed to feed off one another in terms of their anger. It is clear that the main issues were a discrepancy between what Claudia wanted her life to be like and the heightened rules and expectations her family was imposing on her. Mother and daughter continuously engaged in fighting, clearly not seeing each others point of view, but too caught up in their own emotional reactions regarding the situation. The fact that Don wasn t present just put more highlight on Claudia, and showed how the family viewed her as the problem, not taking responsibility for it themselves. This was felt by ... • 45. Kant’s Deontology Religion Philosophy Essay a) What are the central features of Kant s deontolgy? Immanuel Kant believed that to live a good life is to lead a life of happiness. This is not saying that people should only live a life that brings them pleasure and satisfaction, as is often argued in Utilitarianism. Rather it is saying that to live a moral life is to live in a state of peace. For Kant, the Summum Bonum (highest good) describes the ideal, where there is both virtue and happiness. In The Fundamental Principles Kant speaks of a very comprehensive moral argument. This is of the Good Will in which he says Nothing can possibly be conceived in the world, or even out of it, which can be called good, without qualification, except a Good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are always influenced in our thinking and our intentions and attitudes change due to those around us. Aristotle said Man is a social animal , which means that man enjoys the association of others and may derive many advantages from it as well as alterations in thinking. Universalisability supports the idea that it would not be fair for one person to follow a maxim while another was criticized for acting the same way. However, after Kant gives the first formulation of the categorical imperative, he offers four examples of the way maxims can be derived from moral law. One of the maxims always tell the truth results from the irrationality of breaking a promise. This is a big disadvantage because Kant says you have a moral duty to tell the truth to an inquiring murderer about the location of the person he is looking for. Like in the case of the inquiring murderer, Kant does not come up with a way to resolve conflicts between the maxims: you should not lie and you should save lives . Both are good maxims but if you follow one of the maxims (don t lie), then you cannot follow the other (save lives). Other conflicts similar to this would also be unresolved although Kant argues that you cannot know the future and all the other variables involved, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is these two stories that give us the first insight to what kind of character that Nick really is as a child. It is this hollowness that I think directly relates back to his relationship with his father and is the same lack of emotion that lead Nick to go to war and to continue wandering by himself after he returns. It is this same emotion (or lack there of) that is apparent in The Three Day Blow, as well. Though he expresses some remorse over his break up with Marge ( All he knew is that he had once had Marjorie and that he had lost her (47)), I truly believe that there was something else that deeply troubled Nick. • 49. Compare And Contrast Odysseus And The Nostos Nostos in its most simple form, means a heroes homecoming. It is a common theme used in ancient Greek literary works. Homecoming is a great deal to heroes in the ancient epics, as it is the final step to claiming their kleos (glory). Homer uses this as his main theme in his epic poem the Odyssey, as it shows the main character Odysseusyearning to return home to Ithaca after twenty years of being away. The poem portrays Odysseus journey home, however, during his journey he is constantly driven off course. After ten years, with the help of his main protector, the goddess Athena, Odysseus finally makes it back home to Ithaca where he reclaims his identity. Later in 19BC, Vergil who was a roman poet, uses nostos as one of the themes in his epic poem the Aeneid. The poem portrays the main character Aeneas as a dutiful hero, who has to flee his home, Troy, and is destined to found Rome (Verg. Aen.1.1). Odysseus and Aeneas nostos are both similar in the sense that they encounter some of the same sights, they leave behind woman in order to continue on with their journey and they deal with supernatural forces. On the contrary, the two heroes are completely different in their motivation. Aeneas reason for his journey is due to his destiny and duty to establish home for his people. The Optimization Problem Of Matlab Routines Relevant numerical techniques, which have been done with the help of MATLAB routines, are applied to solve the arising optimization problem and to find the optimum parameters of the TMD. For a given mass ratio, Вµ, one can assume different values of the frequency ratio, f, and for each frequency ratio assuming a range of dampingfactor О¶2 of the TMD and estimate the optimum parameters that minimize a certain desired output. Fig. 8 is an example of the numerical optimizationconducted to estimate the optimal frequency ratio and damping factor of the TMD for two different mass ratios under windloads modeled as white noise. The optimization is based on the minimization of the displacement of the primary structure. In this numerical optimization, the responses of the primary structure are normalized, which means that the response obtained with the TMD when attached to the structure is divided by the corresponding response obtained without the TMD. The optimal values of the frequency ratio and the damping factor of the TMD are written on the subfigures. It is shown that a TMD with 1% mass ratio can provide a significant reduction in the displacement response of the primary structure. The reduction in the displacement depends very much on the tuning frequency and the damping ratio of the TMD. By increasing the mass ratio from 1% to 5%, the displacement response of the primary structure is reduced. However, the TMD with 5% mass ratio is more robust to the changes in the frequency ...
