Mollie Goodnight Research Paper
Mollie Goodnight did all that she could throughout her whole life from taking care of her
siblings right after both of her parents deaths, to just teaching some of her husband s farm hands
how to read. Mollie tried to do her best even in the darkest of times, which is one of the reasons
that she is one of the best women Texas has ever had. Mollie was born on September 12,1839 in
Madison County, Tennessee to a loving mother and a fabulous father. Her father was the reason
that they came to Texas in the first place in 1845 near Fort Belknap in North Texas. Ten years
after moving to Texas, Mollie s mother died, her father following only two years later, leaving
Mollie alone with her five younger brothers. Mollie got a job as a schoolteacher to support her and
her brothers. Later though, Mollie met a greatly known cattle rancher named Charles Goodnight
most known for being called the Father of the Texas Panhandle . They both got married on July 26,
1870 and had no children throughout their marriage.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the ranch, Mollie was able to accomplish a number of things, but most notably she started the
Goodnight buffalo herd by first only adopting a few orphan buffalo, but eventually the group
grew until she had an entire herd. Ms.Goodnight also started the Goodnight college, which was
established in 1898, besides the college in their name the Goodnight also has a town named
after them in Colorado. Later in Mollie and Charles life, their house became a tourist attraction
for the occasional passerby to pop in and look at their house as the years went on and the old
western years started to disappear. Mollie and Charles lived in their house for the entire 56 years
that they were married until Mollie started failing in health in the early 1920 s, eventually dying in

`` The Yellow Wallpaper `` By Charlotte Perkins Gilman
John laughs at me, but one expects that in marriage.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote, John laughs at me, of course, but one expects that in marriage. In
her The Yellow Wallpaper men attempted to prevent women from achieving their intellectual and
creative potential by making women be their subordinates. The dreadful wallpaper that Gilman
came to hate in her story is a symbolic representation of her personal life were as she gets married
her role is limited to that of a domestic servant as her husband exercises authority over her. For
example, in some parts of the world today, some women under the institution of marriage are still
caged because they must accept control or instructions from men as a social expectation. Gilman
and Chopin in their short stories how the male dominated society used power to imprison,
oppresses, silences, and encourages submissiveness among married women. The freedom for a
woman to speak, think, act and contribute to decision making in her marriage contributes to the
fight for equality between men and women.
The short story The Yellow Wallpaperby Charlotte Perkins Gilman illustrates the struggle faced
by women who seek freedom from oppression. Gilman reveals in this short story how the
narrator feels oppressed by her husband despite her love for writing by stating, He hates to have
me write a word (218). This narrator is apparently feeling trapped in a marriage that does not allow
her freedom to do the thing she enjoys. The trapped woman

Food Industry In America
The Food Industry in America
The past sixty years have been revolutionary in the way the food industry has progressed,
particularly after the Second World War, when rationing and the conservation of materials was no
longer a priority. New technologies that had sparked from the industrial revolution brought modern
ways to consume calories, and food became another form of entertainment for Americans. With
these new factors, came health problems that had been shown in countless studies, as well as the
effects that new technologies in terms of food production had on America, and major changes in
American attitudes towards food. These realities raised a question that Americans never had to

The Sanctuary of the Family Cabin Essay
The Sanctuary of the Family Cabin
The TV in my room blares the sounds of some show in which I am not even interested. There is too
much on my mind for me to worry about the show on television.
I need money. I need a job. My car needs gas. What am I going to do when school starts this fall?
My life is going downhill. I need to get away.
Just before my mind explodes, my father comes in and says, Let s go to the cabin.
That is exactly what I have needed. My family s cabin has been my sanctuary for years. It is where
I go when I need to get away from the chaos of everyday life. It is this way for not only me, but
also for many family members of the three generations who go there.
I stick my hand out of the window of my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I look down, I realize that parts of the stairs are buried from dirt sliding down the mountain.
I finally make it to the old wooden deck that extends across the front of the cabin. I look at the old
wood under my feet and wonder how it could possibly hold my weight. The rest of the deck
however is beautiful. My uncles have recently replaced the old wood framing roof. They also
repainted the four pillars holding it and the railing on the side a dark forest green. The entire
cabin is covered in a light tan brown color to keep a natural look. I walk to the middle where a
group of three trees project out just inches away from the deck. This was my fortress of solitude
for many years as a child. I look over the deck at the lake and woodland forest surrounding me. The
aroma of the evergreens surrounds me, leaving my mind wonderfully peaceful.
After taking in the beautiful scenery from the deck for a couple of seconds, I walk over to
where the key is hidden and place it in the new locks on a heavy, polished, new wooden door. I
hear the deadbolt click and twist the knob on the door. It creaks open, and a dark, but extremely
welcoming sight greets me. It has been nearly a year since I last saw this stunning place.
I have barely opened the door and already, a feeling of complete serenity has almost totally
encompassed me. The scent that I remember so well flows out from the cabin and into my nose. It
is a mixture of

5 Major Compounds That Make Up the Human Body
The Five Major Compounds That Make Up the Human Body
The human body is one of the most complex and fascinating things on this planet. There are five
major groups of compounds that compose the human body. These are carbohydrates, lipids,
proteins, nucleotides, and water. These compounds are all very important to humans and without
them humans would not be able to survive. Compounds have many functions that encourage a
human cell and a human body to function.
Compounds are pure substances made up of atoms of two or more elements chemically combined
together in fixed ratios determined by mass. When a compound is formed from its components, a
chemical change takes place through chemical reactions. Elements form compounds to ... Show

The lipid molecules are most well known as forming basic structures of cell membranes and as
energy storage molecules as well. There are various types of lipids, three main types include: true
fats (triglycerides), phospholipids, and steroids.
Lipids are also described as fatty acids. Fatty acids are merely carboxylic acids with long
hydrocarbon chains. The fatty acid structure is one of the most fundamental categories of biological
lipids, and is commonly used as a building block of more structurally complex lipids. Fats that
include these molecules are unsaturated fats. Other fatty acids have no double bonds. Fats that
include these fatty acids are saturated fats. In most human health situations, the consumption of
unsaturated fats is preferred to the consumption of saturated fats. Like carbohydrates, lipids can
also be categorized into simple and complex.
Simple lipids are defined as those that are on hydrolysis yield at most two types of primary
product per mole; complex lipids yield three or more primary hydrolysis products per mole.
Hydrolysis is a chemical process in which a certain molecule is split into two parts by the
addition of a molecule of water . Alternatively, the terms neutral and polar lipids respectively are
used to define these groups, but are less exact. The complex lipids for many purposes are best
considered in terms of either the glycerophospholipids which contains a

DLK DBQ The Fourth Amendment is one of the most important in America. In that of a case of a
man under the nickname DLK, this amendment comes into question. Police searched his home with
a thermal imager for traces of marijuana plants. Since marijuana plants need a high amount of heat,
it would be easily detected with this thermal imager. Could this search be deemed constitutional?
The DLK case was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The government invaded DLK s

Persuasive Essay On Performance Enhancing Drugs
In the world of sports it is a competitive place where athletes lay everything they have worked for
their whole lives to win the game. Now these athletes have been striving for greatness and
dedicating so much of their lives to getting bigger faster and stronger to be able to win some
games and ultimately move up in their careers and possibly make a living out of the sportthey love
to play. Sports rewards players who are motivated and works harder than the other team and stay
focused and just dedicate so much to the sport. Now there are shortcuts to becoming bigger and
faster and stronger. While some athletes bleed sweat and work as hard as they can and sometimes
get changes slowly and far between some athletes will take performance enhancing drugs which will
help these athletes take a shortcut and beat out the others who strive to get better. There in my
opinion is nothing wrong with athletes wanting to get an upper edge on opponents by getting
bigger and stronger but when the athlete uses performance enhancing drugs to get an upper edge I
do not agree with this and feel like those athletes should receive some type of punishment. My first
reason to not agree with performance enhancing drugs are because in most if not all schools and
organizations have rules that strictly state that these performance enhancing drugs are completely
prohibited. So since these schools and organizations have rules against the performance enhancing
drugs already then I cannot see why people

Before the bridge was built, motorists would have to drive though the winding country roads
through the town of Millau and the Tarn valley, causing traffic jams backing up over ten miles,
especially during the holiday season. It could take motorists driving across this valley, which is
only a bit over 2km wide, from 30 minutes to 4 hours to cross. With this new extension of the
AutoRoute, the Millau Viaduct, travellers now only take a couple of minutes to cross the valley,
and they still have a chance to see and admire the beautiful landscape.

Compare And Contrast Washington And Lincoln
Washington and Lincoln are considered as two of America s greatest presidents. Both
have impacted our nation and their legacy lives on still to this day. History would be different if
Washington wasn t the noble person and heroic leader, that represented to the American people.
Lincoln contributed to Washington s efforts and ideas. He ended up saving the Republic Union t
that Washington created. If neither of them decided to become President, then the nation would
be completely different and Americans would not be free and have the opportunities that they
have today. Washington helped create the Declaration of Independence. This is what gave
Americans freedom of Speech and the Rights to be equal. On July 4th, 1776, the Continental
Congress adopted the Declaration. This made the 13 colonies independent nations. Lincoln
created another form of freedom. It was called, the Emancipation Proclamation, this gave
freedom to slaves in the Confederate States. This would only happen if the Union won the war.
Fortunately, they did and the slaves were granted freedom. All these events could not have
occurred if Lincoln and Washington didn t take action and did what was best for the country.
George Washington was the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the
Revolutionary War. He led his forces to victory over the British. which made him a national hero.
After this, he was elected president of the group of people who wrote the U.S Constitution. Two
years after, he was elected America s first President. He knew it was important how he handled
the position because it would impact the future presidents. He wanted to form a legacy of
strength, integrity and national purpose.(biography.com)
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He is best known as
America s greatest hero because of his involvement in saving the Union and the emancipator of
slaves. In 1863, he created the Emancipation Proclamation. This shifted the cause of the Civil
War and saved the Union and efforts to abolish slavery. He is the only one during his time to be a

Milking Is A Great World Leading Milking Technology
AMS
AMS, a new era in milking is a great world leading milking technology allowing greater
flexibility on milking times as farmers do not have to focus on Dairy premises as frequently,
eliminating the need to be tied to the dairy for long periods of time and milk cows at regular set
times. This frees up the operator s time and energy and allows the operator to shift their focus to
other priorities.
Automatic Milking is a big ticket investment. It has the potential to completely change the way we
milk our cows and manage our farms. The labour and the lifestyle implications are many and
varied. It s gone beyond just milking, it s more of a milking/monitoring system with the cow taking
charge of its own milking schedules.
Single and multi box robots and the Automatic Milking rotary (AMR) enables for full voluntary
cow traffic, remote supervision and milkings to be distributed through the 24 hour day. Hence, there
collective term, labelled Automatic Milking Systems (AMS).
Single and multi Box robots
The AMS robotic boxes were originally designed for the European small herds that are housed
indoors most of the years. Some robotic boxes include, the Delaval VMS (Voluntary Milking

A hero/ heroine is described as the principal male/ female character in a literary or dramatic work
or the central figure in an event, period, or movement. The classic tragic hero was defined by
Aristotle in the fourth century as, someone who is highly renowned and prosperous (LATWP, 639),
suggesting that there is a natural right ordering and proportion of traits within the human being that
if violated, produces calamity (LATWP, 639). The book goes on to define classical tragedyas one

With such a glut of labor on the market manufactures took advantage and lowered wages. Also
with machinery doing most of the work the factory could be operational twenty three hours a day.
As early as the 18th century some of the English recognized the deleterious effects of unregulated
factory work. One such person was a Dr. Percival, who on January 15th of 1796, presented a report
to the Manchester Board of Health on the conditions of the mill workers. In his report he noted that
all the workers, especially the children were prone to sickness. He noted that the night labor and
long hours of the factories were injurious to the workers. They were not only more susceptible to
disease but also in constant danger of being maimed and possibly killed by machinery. Cotton
workers suffered from the inhalation of the fine dust particle produced during the processing of
cotton. Steel factory workers suffered from asthma.
Wages varied according to what industry the workers were in. It also varied upon the skill level
of the workers. Most were defined as semi skilled but there were some who were considered
artisans. At the beginning of the century artisans such as hand loom weavers made as much as 35

Let Us ...? No, Give it a Rest Summary and Critique
George F. Will is a Pulitzer Prize writer and an editor for Newsweek. He is well known for his
strong conservative political commentary. He discusses the history of Inaugural Addresses and how
they reflect the way the country has changed throughout the years. He points out a number of
differences such as sentence structure, tone, and topics.
For example, he cites the numbering of words. He mentions George Washington s second sentence
of his address, which was 87 words.
On the one hand, I was summoned by my country, whose voice I can never hear but with
veneration and love, from a retreat which I had chosen with the ... Show more content on

George Washington had to be much more modest, speaking about his personal problems and as
much as he would like to rest, his country was calling him. In the beginning with Washington, the
issue was that he would be able to turn the presidency into another monarchy. Around the time of
Cleveland and Garfield, a major issue was polygamy. During the time of Monroe, the issue was
coastal fortifications. As of today, these are no longer on the list of major issues. This progression
shows how the country has grown over the many years.
Though Will is happy that we do not have to talk about the issues of the past anymore, he does not
like the shortening of sentences and how Presidents have become more like preachers. He shows
appreciation of Washington s modesty despite the amount of praise he was showered with, but
understands how there were different problems during that time.
Most of what Will says is backed up with some strong points, using factual information from past
people such as Cleveland, Garfield, and Teddy Roosevelt. This greatly backs up his claims, making
them hard to argue against. He makes strong arguments that clearly show how there has been quite
a change throughout the history of the Inaugural Addresses.
A significant point he brings up is the decrease in the word count per sentence over the years. It s
true there has been a major change in literature over the years. Personally, I had some trouble
keeping up with the incredibly long

Essay On Foster Home Theory
There are many cold cases out there, and many families are still out there waiting for justice. An
article titled, America s Unknown Child, written by multiple concerned citizens, is one of these
cases. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 25, 1957, A boy commonly called America s
Unknown Child was found. His identity has never been discovered and the case remains
unsolved. No substantial evidence has been found, but there are a few theories. The most
compelling theory is about the foster home, because of the location of the body, the evidence,
and the interviews. The Boy in the Box is the name given to an unidentified murder victim, 3 to
6 years old, whose naked, battered body was found in a cardboard box in the Fox Chase section
of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 25, 1957. There are many theories in this case, but
the most convincing is the foster home theory. This theory concerns a foster home that was
located approximately 1.5 miles from the site of the body. In 1960, Remington Bristow, an
employee of the medical examiner s office who pursued the case until his death in 1993, contacted
a New Jersey psychic, who told him to look for a house that matched the foster home. When the
psychic was brought to the Philadelphia discovery site, she led Bristow directly to the foster
home.Upon attending an estate sale at the foster home, Bristow discovered blankets hanging on the
clothesline that were similar to the one in which the boy s body had been wrapped.

Examples Of Atticus s Parenting Styles In To Kill A...
Some people think that Atticus s parenting style is great and very laid back, while others think it
might be a little bit lax. I am somewhere in between. I do agree that his parenting style is very
laid back, which would be very nice in certain situations. I also think however, that he could be a
little more strict with his parenting. Atticus is a very laid back parent which I think is really
cool. My parents are very strict on what I can and can t do. So Atticus s parenting style looks
like a very good way of parenting. I like how he lets his children learn from their mistakes on
their own, even though he knows what they ve done and could ve easily punished them. He
doesn t make it awkward for them to have to own up to their mistakes, he doesn t even bring it up
unless it is something very serious that needs to be dealt with right away. For example, when Jem
tore up Mrs. Dubose s flower bed, Atticus punished him by making him read to her every day for
almost two months. With my family it s the opposite. If... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As a parent I would be very concerned with the safety of my child. He also doesn t monitor his

do, eventually they will grow up causing a lot of trouble. There are sometimes when Atticus is
strict on Jem and Scout, but I don t think he is strict enough. For example when he found out that
they were the ones who snuck into the Radley yard he did nothing about it. The children could ve
gotten themselves killed by entering that yard and Atticus acted like it was no big deal, almost as
if he could care less what happened to his children. If it were my children I would definitely punish

The Effects of a Teenage Wasteland
Anne Tyler s Teenage Wasteland is a story about a modern day family of four and the relationship
issues they experienced with each other. The story is presented in third person limited; however,
the reader is shown much about how the mother of the family feels and the troubles she
experiences in her relationships with her husband and children, primarily her son Donny. Daisy is
portrayed as a motherwho worries that she had failed Donny because of his continual disobedience
toward the authority figures in his life. Donny is a teen who constantly misbehaves in school and
in the story is described as noisy, lazy, and disruptive; always fooling around with his friends, and
would not respond in class. (188). These behaviors lead Donny to... Show more content on

Children have a lot to say and parents have to remember to stop and listen to their child and then
maybe offer suggestions and ideals. Recognize how the child feels and acknowledge the flaws the
child has. Nobody is perfect. Realizing the imperfections of the child helps a parent better
understand the type of encouragement and guidance the child might need to become a more
productive adolescent. Secondly, patience is another key component to an effective parent child
relationship. Some parents assume that if a child isn t doing so well in school, the child will
struggle with learning all his or her life. A parent must understand that one failure does not mean
a child is made to be a failure. Having patience and allowing your child time to do better will help
him or her grow up to be more of a well rounded adult. In teenage wasteland Daisy struggles with
self worth. She ponders at night on where she went wrong in Donny s life. She even admits that
she wishes she could start over and give Donny more attention. Given one more chance, she d do it
perfectly hug him more, praise him more, or perhaps praise him less. (190). Daisy s patience fails
when Donny becomes stubborn and narcissistic and she allows another person (his tutor) to parent
and guide Donny. A parent knows their child best but must remember to be patient with the child
while he or she is developing into an adult. Finally, discipline is another important parenting value.

Why Did the Treaty of Maastricht Mark a Milestone in...
Why did the Treaty of Maastricht mark a milestone in creating a political union?
The Treaty of Maastricht, formerly known as the Treaty of the European Union came at a pivotal
time in European history. Eastern Europe was a victim of the collapse of Communism, which had a
strong impact on the European Commission (EC) as this meant new potential markets were open
which they were keen to take over (Bache, 2001:124). However, the collapse of Communism in the
Soviet Union meant that there was unsettlement in the east. During the same period of time there
was possibility for reunification in Germany. This was looked upon with great caution because
many feared that this could cause Germany Nationalism to ignite again. Due to these events ... Show

For instance, the European Parliament now had the ability to veto legislation. Other institutional
changes saw the formation of a Committee of Regions and the Court of Justice be given the right to
fine member states that were not complying with its judgments (Bieler, 2009:Lecture 4). Moreover,
there were pivotal policy changes as it introduced education, public health, the environment and
consumer protection, again to promote Europe s supranational qualities.
Maastricht carried on to emphasize the necessity of European integration and the head s of
government agreed that this would be achieved by a three pillar structure. The three pillars were
the EC pillar (economic and social affairs), and the intergovernmental pillars of Common Foreign

The first aspect of society that the Harry Potter books has impacted is the acceptance the readers

Theology of Atonement and Salvation
The view and understanding of atonement is one of the widest in Christian theology. Unlike the
dogmas that define the theology of trinity and incarnation and bring unity to Christian
understanding, the theology of atonement has many different views that are widely held. The
theology of atonement is one of the most important for Christians to understand, as it shapes our
images of God, our understanding of salvation and how we are saved.
In this essay, I will be looking at different theories of atonement and how they make a difference to
our theology of salvation. I will argue that different understandings and theories of atonement affect
our theology of salvation by highlighting different aspects of salvation and answering the ... Show

The subjective theories emphasise the effect of the cross and atonement on the believers and their
response. This means that an emphasis on Christ s death on the cross and it being an example for
/influence on humanity is classed as subjective theories. Objective theories put stress on what the
atonement achieved at the event of the cross, outside individuals. This means that any view that
sees Jesus crucifixion as payment by God for our sins is classed as an objective theory.
The first theory I will be looking at is the Ransom theory. The ransom theory is one of the earliest
theories of atonement that originated with Origen of Alexandria. This view orientated from
Mark 10:24 and Matthew 20:28, where it states that the Son of Man came to give his life as a
ransom for many. This word ransom was a familiar one for the early Church as it bring up Old
Testament imagery as it was a word use of God s rescue of Israel from Egypt. This theory states
that Christ s death on the cross was a necessary act as a payment to Satan for our release. Due to
Adam s sin, we were captured legally by Satan through the bonds of original sin. Therefore, in
order to secure our freedom justly, a price needed to be paid to Satan. Thus Jesus died on the cross
to be that payment. Gregory of Nyssa explains this theory in terms of God fishing for humanity
using Jesus humanity as bait.
This view creates a dualism where it places Satan on the same field as God as He is bargaining
with the Devil. It

Character Analysis Of Shylock In Venice
No one can argue that Shylock is one of the most complex and intriguing characters ever created in
literature. He has unique traits that make him who he is. Shylock is a Jewish man in a majority
Christian city named Venice. In the Middle Ages usury was banned to Christians by the church and
for that reason usuryor the illegal act of lending money, was controlled by the Jews. Shylockwas one
of the most prominent moneylenders in Venice. However in the play Shylock is portrayed as an
angry man who is hated by the Venetians. They are not a fond of his angry mannerisms, despise
him for his religion, occupation, etc. No one can deny that Shylock is motivated by money, but one
can argue that he is also motivated by vengeance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anther example where Shylock fits his archetype perfectly is in Act IV, Scene 1. As we know,
Shylock is the antagonist in the play and as we know, all villains must pay for their heinous
actions eventually. In this scene Shylock is essentially stripped of everything he owns. Half of
his wealth must go to the city of Venice while the other half ends up going to his daughter
Jessica. While some might feel bad for him at this moment, we must think of the saying what
comes around goes around. In Act III Shylock is merciless and refuses to take any form of
payment in exchange for Antonio. All he cares about is getting a pound of Antonio s flesh.
Keeping Antonio in a cell and essentially embarrassing him completely, even though Antonio is on
his knees begging for mercy, Shylock refuses to let go of what he wants, the pound of flesh. Like
Amanda Bailey says in her work Shylock and the Slaves: Owing and Owing in The Merchant of
Venice, Shylock sees the desperation of an insolvent debtor [Antonio] (Bailey). He is merciless
and essentially wants to prove a point. However, this merciless act comes back to haunt Shylock
when Portia goes after him in court. In the end, Shylock loses and is miserable, something that
happens to all villains and antagonists. That s why he fits so perfectly with that villain archetype.
We spoke about how Shylock fits his archetype

solving mysteries. One day, Nancy and her friend Helen are on a boat ride, and they come across a

The novel Red Star Rogue is a novel about a particular submarine that served in the Soviet Pacific
Fleet during the Cold War. The book follows the Golf Class submarine K 129 on her final mission
which occurred in the spring of 1968. K 129 was a Soviet ballistic missile submarine whose
purpose was to launch nuclear weapons at the United States in case of the commencement of
hostilities between the two superpowers. The author Kenneth Sewell, who is a former submarine

submarine surfaces and then proceeds to attempt a nuclear missile launch at Pearl Harbor. The
author points out that what exactly happened will never be known unless Russian files are

Mr. Sewell cannot provide a first hand account, he can relate with a fair degree of certainty what

Canadian Magazine Dispute Essay
Canadian Magazine Dispute
To what extent do you think the U.S. Canadian magazine dispute was motivated by genuine desires
to protect Canadian culture?
Canadian government was aware of how powerful print media like magazine can rapidly change the
lifestyle and culture of the citizens. The government was mindful about the fact that magazine is
one of the easiest way to introduce the citizens to pop culture which in turn will influence the
country s fashion, food, television content and even music. The fear of the government losing the

It was predicted that the diversion of advertising revenue would force many Canadian periodicals

Given that Canadian magazines constitute only 11 percent magazine sales in Canada, how important
is this matter to Canadian culture?
Foreign magazine taking up to 89 percent of the magazine industry in Canada is indeed a big blow
to the culture of the land. Americanization is gradually taking over the culture of the people. The
existence of globalization has made it possible and easier for people to unconsciously adapt new
lifestyles. This was one of the fears of the Canadian government at the beginning when she was
introducing taxes on foreign magazine. With globalization evolving at a fast pace the Canadian
government will find it very hard to maintain the culture of the land especially with just 11% of the
market share.

In this research popular music is defined as well liked and well favoured (Middleton, 1990)
music for ordinary people (Shuker, 1994) that has wide mass media exposure, but usually only
for a fixed period of time. Its impact is either overstated or understated. Yet, it is an important part
of both a thriving cultural and entertainment environment. To some it is a business and to others it
is a way of life. While many would argue its cultural contribution to society (Adorno, 1941;
Horkheimer and Adorno, 1944; Peatman, 1944), few would argue its potential to impact and to
influence individuals. Advertising inspires ambivalence equal to that of popular music.
Advertising is defined as the paid, nonpersonal communication of information about products or
ideas by an identified sponsor through the mass media in an effort to persuade or influence
behavior (Bovee, Thill, Dovel, and Wood, 1995, p. 4). Ironically, communication theorist Marshall
McLuhan called it the greatest art form of the twentieth century (Andrews, 1987, p. 5). But
advertising pioneer David Ogilvy said he did not regard it as an art form but as a medium of
information (Ogilvy, 1983, p. 7). Both McLuhan and Ogilvy
would agree that advertising is everywhere throughout society. Whether you agree it cultivates or
contaminates, mirrors or manipulates that society, you cannot avoid it. While there is a
considerable amount of disagreement on the societal implications of the practice of using

School Uniform Policy And School Uniforms
When my son started school in 2007, he was not required to wear any type of uniform for almost
two academic years. As soon as he started first grade, he noticed a big change; a new dress code
which makes him wear the same color of outfit as his classmates, a uniform. Many schools in the
world use uniform in schools. Brunsma a sociologist at the Virginia university stated in his book
that: The idea of requiring public school students to wear uniformswas first envisioned in the 1980s
by then Washington, D.C., mayor Marion Barry, who believed standardized dress might help
public school students succeed as well as those in the city s Catholic schools. The idea flopped, but
in 1987, Cherry Hill Elementary School in Baltimore implemented the first known schoolwide
uniform policy as a means of reducing clothing costs and social pressures on children, (David
Brunsma 2004). School uniform put together children of all social class and help them feel more
comfortable, School uniforms enhance equality amount student and reduce complexity in schools.
The strategy of uniform in schools picked up force in the 1980s after it was noticed that catholic
schools, which wore regalia performed better as far as execution and control. Because of the
eminent advantages that garbs gave to the catholic schools, numerous state funded schools chose to
acquire from these schools and created arrangements for their student to wear school regalia when

weeks to go and you will be on your way to a well needed vacation, which you have carefully spent
the last couple months planning. There is only one thing that stands in the way, final exams. Just as
every student before you and every student that will come after you, final examinationscan be very

Knowing how to identify internal strengths and weakness can be beneficial in helping to prepare
for any examination. Time management and organizational skills are a key trait that should be
mastered extensively (Shelley, 2005). The most successful students use their time wisely. An
upcoming exam can create a heavy burden. Making a realistic study schedule and having the
proper study space that is free from distractions and kept well organized is vital (Shelley, 2005).
Test anxiety is a very common trait that occurs in many people. You have spent weeks studying for
the examination, covered every single topic and read every single material having to deal with the
upcoming exam. You walk into the classroom, sit down, and retrieve all your materials that you
need. The instructor hands out your exam and gives everyone the confirmation to begin. You open
up the exam and start reading the first question, hoping to be familiar with the subject. As you read
question after question, you realize that you can t recall the answers to anything that you have just
read. According to Salend (2011), this is the time that you start to panic, your chest gets tight, you

studying and adequate preparation can help students overcome test anxiety and help improve their
performance. Employing

The Problem Of Child Labor Laws Essay
i.In developing countries, such as in India, child are are forced to work, often as the result of a
system of debt bondage where their family trades a small amount of money with an individual
and in return, their child is sent away to work, and some of these families will never see their
child again. Many of these children, due to the either the lack of regulation or as a result of a
country simply turning a blind eye to the reality of child labor that violates child labor laws . As
we saw in the video from class about the chocolate child labor farmers, many of these children
engage in backbreaking work, from sunrise to sunset, and as a result lose their childhood, their
ability to go to school, their ability to play with other kids, because of the debt bondage their
family agreed to. This is what was experienced by Iqbal Masih. As a four year old boy, his
parents sold him into debt bondage for 600 rupees, or less than $6, to an employer who owned a
carpet weaving business. Corsaro explains that child labor is especially desired in the carpet
weaving business because they can squat easily, and their nimble fingers can make the smallest,
tightest knots . He woke up before dawn and made his way, bound in chains, down to the factory
for work. He worked at that faculty for 6 years, working 12 hours a day, everyday. At the age of
ten, he found out that bonded labor was illegal, and tried to escape. After escaping, he made a
decision to help others like him, and as a result,

The Importance Of Football In High School
When students go from junior high to a high school, they will see and witness new things that
the school will provide throughout the four years. New clubs, activities, things that they will
never forget for next couple years. If you re really wanting to have a good time at school, you can
be a part of a sport instead of being in P.E. in the first two years of high school. There are many
sport that students could join like, but there is one that people are really worried about young
students could be harmed. Football is a sport that has a lot of contact and, as seen on T.V.,
people have been sent to the hospital for serious head injuries, some might even reach the point
of dying. Many schools have themselves, should young student be played in high school? Well,
some might say it is not safe, but I think student should have the opportunity to make the football
team. Young teens have many perspectives than other teenagers, no one is the same. Many
teens would want to join football and there are those who would not like to even jog or would
go outside. It would be a good way for those who want to get a daily exercise and lose some
calories, these young athletes would feel good about themselves to know they are in a sport and
they get some exercise into their bodies. Some young teenagers would not want to even go for
walk, a nice, easy jog, or even want to sweat at all. There have been cases that teens would be
diabetic for not getting enough motion into their muscles

He shows appreciation of Washington s modesty despite the amount of praise he was showered with, but understands how there were different problems during that time. Most of what Will says is backed up with some strong points, using factual information from past people such as Cleveland, Garfield, and Teddy Roosevelt. This greatly backs up his claims, making them hard to argue against. He makes strong arguments that clearly show how there has been quite a change throughout the history of the Inaugural Addresses. A significant point he brings up is the decrease in the word count per sentence over the years. It s true there has been a major change in literature over the years. • 24. Essay On Foster Home Theory There are many cold cases out there, and many families are still out there waiting for justice. An article titled, America s Unknown Child, written by multiple concerned citizens, is one of these cases. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 25, 1957, A boy commonly called America s Unknown Child was found. His identity has never been discovered and the case remains unsolved. No substantial evidence has been found, but there are a few theories. The most compelling theory is about the foster home, because of the location of the body, the evidence, and the interviews. The Boy in the Box is the name given to an unidentified murder victim, 3 to 6 years old, whose naked, battered body was found in a cardboard box in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 25, 1957. There are many theories in this case, but the most convincing is the foster home theory. This theory concerns a foster home that was located approximately 1.5 miles from the site of the body. In 1960, Remington Bristow, an employee of the medical examiner s office who pursued the case until his death in 1993, contacted a New Jersey psychic, who told him to look for a house that matched the foster home. When the psychic was brought to the Philadelphia discovery site, she led Bristow directly to the foster home.Upon attending an estate sale at the foster home, Bristow discovered blankets hanging on the clothesline that were similar to the one in which the boy s body had been wrapped. ... I am somewhere in between. I do agree that his parenting style is very laid back, which would be very nice in certain situations. I also think however, that he could be a little more strict with his parenting. Atticus is a very laid back parent which I think is really cool. My parents are very strict on what I can and can t do. So Atticus s parenting style looks like a very good way of parenting. I like how he lets his children learn from their mistakes on their own, even though he knows what they ve done and could ve easily punished them. He doesn t make it awkward for them to have to own up to their mistakes, he doesn t even bring it up unless it is something very serious that needs to be dealt with right away. There are sometimes when Atticus is strict on Jem and Scout, but I don t think he is strict enough. Children have a lot to say and parents have to remember to stop and listen to their child and then maybe offer suggestions and ideals. Recognize how the child feels and acknowledge the flaws the child has. Nobody is perfect. Realizing the imperfections of the child helps a parent better understand the type of encouragement and guidance the child might need to become a more productive adolescent. Secondly, patience is another key component to an effective parent child relationship. Some parents assume that if a child isn t doing so well in school, the child will struggle with learning all his or her life. A parent must understand that one failure does not mean a child is made to be a failure. Having patience and allowing your child time to do better will help him or her grow up to be more of a well rounded adult. In teenage wasteland Daisy struggles with self worth. She ponders at night on where she went wrong in Donny s life. She even admits that she wishes she could start over and give Donny more attention. Unlike the dogmas that define the theology of trinity and incarnation and bring unity to Christian understanding, the theology of atonement has many different views that are widely held. The theology of atonement is one of the most important for Christians to understand, as it shapes our images of God, our understanding of salvation and how we are saved. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subjective theories emphasise the effect of the cross and atonement on the believers and their response. This means that an emphasis on Christ s death on the cross and it being an example for /influence on humanity is classed as subjective theories. Objective theories put stress on what the atonement achieved at the event of the cross, outside individuals. This means that any view that sees Jesus crucifixion as payment by God for our sins is classed as an objective theory. The first theory I will be looking at is the Ransom theory. The ransom theory is one of the earliest theories of atonement that originated with Origen of Alexandria. This view orientated from Mark 10:24 and Matthew 20:28, where it states that the Son of Man came to give his life as a ransom for many. This word ransom was a familiar one for the early Church as it bring up Old Testament imagery as it was a word use of God s rescue of Israel from Egypt. This theory states that Christ s death on the cross was a necessary act as a payment to Satan for our release. Due to Adam s sin, we were captured legally by Satan through the bonds of original sin. Therefore, in order to secure our freedom justly, a price needed to be paid to Satan. Thus Jesus died on the cross to be that payment. Gregory of Nyssa explains this theory in terms of God fishing for humanity using Jesus humanity as bait. This view creates a dualism where it places Satan on the same field as God as He is bargaining with the Devil. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Middle Ages usury was banned to Christians by the church and for that reason usuryor the illegal act of lending money, was controlled by the Jews. Shylockwas one of the most prominent moneylenders in Venice. However in the play Shylock is portrayed as an angry man who is hated by the Venetians. As we know, Shylock is the antagonist in the play and as we know, all villains must pay for their heinous actions eventually. In this scene Shylock is essentially stripped of everything he owns. Half of his wealth must go to the city of Venice while the other half ends up going to his daughter Jessica. While some might feel bad for him at this moment, we must think of the saying what comes around goes around. In Act III Shylock is merciless and refuses to take any form of payment in exchange for Antonio. All he cares about is getting a pound of Antonio s flesh. Keeping Antonio in a cell and essentially embarrassing him completely, even though Antonio is on his knees begging for mercy, Shylock refuses to let go of what he wants, the pound of flesh. Like Amanda Bailey says in her work Shylock and the Slaves: Owing and Owing in The Merchant of Venice, Shylock sees the desperation of an insolvent debtor [Antonio] (Bailey). He is merciless and essentially wants to prove a point. However, this merciless act comes back to haunt Shylock when Portia goes after him in court. In the end, Shylock loses and is miserable, something that happens to all villains and antagonists. That s why he fits so perfectly with that villain archetype. Its impact is either overstated or understated. Yet, it is an important part of both a thriving cultural and entertainment environment. To some it is a business and to others it is a way of life. While many would argue its cultural contribution to society (Adorno, 1941; Horkheimer and Adorno, 1944; Peatman, 1944), few would argue its potential to impact and to influence individuals. Advertising inspires ambivalence equal to that of popular music.
