Emperor Jimmu
Emperor Jimmu, the first Emperor of Japan, officially formed Japan in 660 Before Common Era
(BCE.) Throughout Japan s 2600 years of history, there have been many wars and conflicts fought
across Japan and the Pacific region. Through the ages, Japan has always had an Emperor at the head of
its government, although this role has changed through time. Japan saw many economic changes, the
biggest of which occurred after World War II (WWII). With Japan s history, woven in war throughout
the Pacific has become a model of strong political standing and near immeasurable economic growth.
Japanese chronicles record Jimmu s expedition heading eastward from Hyuga in 607 BCE, continuing
along Japan s inland sea, subduing tribes as he went, and ending in Yamato, where he centered his
power (Jimmu Legendary Emperor of Japan, 2016.) Emperor Jimmu, formally Jimmu Tenno, is said
to be a descendent of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. The current Emperor of Japan, His Royal Majesty
(HIM) Akihito, is a direct descendent of over 50 generations of Jimmu s bloodline. ... Show more

The IJA started with a limited number of trained troops; conscripts filled the gaps between Officers
and Soldiers. Conscription is the enrollment of persons, especially for military service, which was
similar to the Draft in the United States (Definition of Conscription, 2016). In 1872 CE, the first law
concerning conscription in Japan was enacted, though the idea dates back to as early as 645CE. While
feudalism was being developed and created, there was a rapid decline of the semi independent
peasantry, and finally the complete subjugation of peasants to the Daimyo and Samurai classes
(Norman, 1977.) This subjugation led to peasants taking up arms for their Daimyo. A peasant with a
pitchfork, sword, or ax couldn t defeat a single Samurai one on one however, hundreds were joining

The Similarities Between Bollywood And Silent Movies
Bollywood and Silent movies are distinct by their names and styles within each movie. They are
known to be the most popular back in the old days. Bollywood was, and is famous in India, whereas
Silent movies were once a huge boom in Hollywood. Each movie s music play a significant role, or
portray an important theme for the viewers. These two genres of movie have similarities, as well as
differences that make them somehow dissimilar but somehow close to each other. Bollywood, an
unauthorized name of the Hindi Film Industry in Mumbai. Some people interpret this name as the
whole Indian Cinema, and although the fact that it is the biggest in India, it is only a section of the
entire movie Industry. The industry had originated from a movie called Raja Harishchandra, with the
unprecedented silent traits, in 1913. After that, the industry had grown so massively in 20 years that it
produced more than 200 films annually. The first sound movie was created in 1931, with the first

One major difference is that in non sense song, only Charlie Chaplin sings, whereas in zindagi hai
khel, woman and man sings alternately. For most of the part, the woman repeats what the man had
said. There is a huge difference between the instruments used in each of them. In the movie,
trombone, violin, cello, and trumpets are utilized whereas the Bollywood manipulates shehnai, tabla,
sarangi and zither. This is mainly due to the difference in the countries. Another difference between
two is the dynamics. For the Bollywood, the music is on Forte everytime, loud and strong with the
tabla and shehnai, but for non sense song, the music only gets loud when Charlie Chaplin is not
talking. After he finishes his funny sentence, the music suddenly becomes lurid. When talking, only
the violins and cellos are used in a soft

The Hukou System Is The Door Guard Of The Command Economy
The hukou system is the door guard of the command economy. Discuss.
Introduction
Hukou is a household registration system that the government uses it to control migration of the
population (Zhang, 29). Simply put, hukou is a migration control system. Typologically speaking,
hukou is an official identification system that records a resident s presence including his or her name,
birth, economic power and rank, employment status, and other relevant information. The
establishment of the PRC (People s Republic of China) Regulations on Household Registration in
1958 classifies the population into two types Agriculture and non agriculture hukou. This dual
classification determines one s entitlements to state provided goods and services. Hukou ... Show

Indeed, it is possible. The government can use a complex and traditional way to allocate the resources
and social welfare within the country, in the meantime, maintain its control to individuals. However,
without the enforcement of the hukou system, meaning that the hukou system is not a door guard of
the command economy, the economy would develop in a relatively less efficiency and a less
convenient way. Obstruction may happen, as the government would require doing a lot of complex
work in allocating the resources and social welfares. Nevertheless, one has to understand that
production, investment, prices, and incomes determine centrally by the government under the
command economic system. The hukou system not only separates the population into two categories
but also regulates internal migration. Consider of that, the hukou system becomes a perfect choice in
implementing a command economic system. This is because the hukou system not only ease
government s burden but also curb the growth of the urban population; restricting rural residents from
moving into urban centres, where places usually have a better living environments. As a door guard,
the hukou system is convenience for government to launch new policy while keep facilitating a

Equal Gender Representation in The Gaming Franchise This paper tries to express how
sexism/chauvinism ideas have infected the virtual world of video games, and resulted in a male
dominated video gaming industry. Now, being that 49% of U.S. households own a dedicated gaming
console (E.S.A. 2012), it is imperative that we address this issue. Gender disparity in the gaming
business is exceedingly one sided. Female employees constitute less than 10% of the gaming industry,

number of females have indeed contributed to the gaming franchise as a result of the industries no

Essay about Darwin’s Dangerous Idea
At the beginning of the 1800s, scientists knew of some kinds of fossils, and were very aware of
homologous and vestigial structures. Many scientists suspected that some kind of evolution had given
rise to living things around them. However, they had no theory to explain how evolution might have
occurred. Two scientists led the way in the search for a mechanism of evolution. The first was Jean
Lamarck. The second was one of the greatest figures in biology, Charles Darwin. What is evolution?
Evolution is a change in the traits of living organisms over generations. Since the development of
modern genetics in the 1940s, evolution has been defined more specifically as a change in the
frequency of alleles in a population from one generation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natural selection, together with the rules of inheritance discovered by Gregor Mendel, stand at the
basis of modern evolutionary biology.
Darwin was the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural
selection. Like several scientists before him, Darwin believed all the life on earth evolved over
millions of years from a few common ancestors. From 1831 to 1836 Darwin served as naturalist
aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. In South America Darwin
found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species. On the Galapagos Islands in the
Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same general type as those
in South America. The expedition visited places around the world, and Darwin studied plants and
animals everywhere he went, collecting specimens for further study.
Upon his return to London Darwin concluded thorough research of his notes and specimens many
ideas. Out of this study grew several related theories: one, evolution did occur, two, evolutionary
change was gradual, requiring thousands to millions of years, three, the primary mechanism for
evolution was a process called natural selection, and four, the millions of species alive today arose
from a single original life form through a branching process called specialization.
The movie Darwin s Dangerous Idea was based on Darwin s theory of evolution. It

Reviewing The Requirements For Announcing Federal Contract...
Evaluate the requirements for announcing federal contract awards. Determine how these requirements
apply to this scenario. All federal agencies have to make a public announcement for any contracts
awards over the $3.5 million or above threshold. The FAR mandates that all federal agencies have to
notify the public of the contract awards by 5:00p.m. eastern time zone on the day of the award.
According to Compton (2010) The FAR does not require agencies to notify members of Congress
when contracts are awarded in their jurisdictions, but agencies typically want to involve
congresspeople in the contract award process (Compton, p.195). According to FAR there are contracts
that are excluded from this requirement such as those placed under the Small Business Association
section 8(a) of the Small Business Act, ones with overseas firms when place of deliver or performed
outside the United States, and those outline was excused under 5.202(a)(1). Some department have a
different threshold from the FAR, anywhere from $250,000 to $10 million. The Department of State is
$10 million while the Department of Defense is $5.5 million. There is also a threshold for notifying
members of Congress for an example the Department of the Interior is $500,00. The Department of
Homeland Security is $1 million but the Department of Defense does not have a dollar requirement to
notify Congress. The way the government announces these contract awards is by utilizing the

Similarities Between The Poem And The Silver Thhread By...
I found that my favorite poems from the class are about nature. Poems about nature related the most
with me because I find them calming and relaxing. While The Silver Thread by Afaa Michael Weaver
and Fall Song by Mary Oliver share similar themes and styles of writing, The Silver Thread is more
connected to my life because of my past experiences and the more detailed imagery that it contains
throughout the poem.
Both poems share a theme involving the beauty of nature. The Silver Thread focuses on the scene of a
stream, while Fall Song emphasizes the Fall season. The scene in The Silver Thread shows how nature
blends with modern life and civilization when it says, the stream disappears under a bridge made by
men so trucks can crawl back and forth over this road of dirt with its one row of grass. This image of a
man made bridge over the naturally occurring stream shows a balance in the world between the world
s now complicated aspects of life and the simplicity of nature which remains straightforward. I can
appreciate the balance represented in this poem because I also try to balance the stresses of life with
the beauty of nature. The elegance of nature, which would be hard to recreate. Nature s simplicity
gives people a sense of calmness even in bad times.
The Silver Thread connects with me better than Fall Song because it relates more to my life. Weaver s
poem shows more modern aspects of life, such as the bridge over the water. Because he includes more
modern aspects, it is much easier to establish a clear image from his description and imagery. My
experiences in life have supplied me with many images matching the description of this stream and
bridge. While I have also experienced the Fall season, I do not remember any specific scene from it.
The Silver Thread also contains deeper meanings about life within it. It says, while up ahead a curve
hides tomorrow from our crystal ball. This is a good metaphor for life, because people can never be
sure what the future hides. Anything could be around the corner in life or the river. Fall Song also
speaks about time when it says, unmattering back from the particular island of this summer, this Now,
that now is nowhere except underfoot. This

America (1995), which had the political intention to strengthen the civil character of public safety

Models Of Theories Of Memory
Evaluate two models of theories of memory.
This essay will evaluate two models of theories of memory. Memory can be defined as the persistence
of learning over time via the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information. Encoding is the process
of categorizing incoming information through conscious effortful processing, rehearsal, or
unconscious automatic processing. The storage process involves the retention of encoded information
over time. Lastly, retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory. There are various
types of memory. Sensory memory is the immediate, initial recording of sensory information in the
memory system. It also plays a vital role in filtering out useless information, enabling us to focus our

Some information from the sensory store moves to the STM by paying attention to information, while
some information from the STM moves to the LTM via constant rehearsal of that information. Once
that piece of information is stored in the LTM, it is long lasting perhaps even for a lifetime if that
certain piece of information is that strong. The difference in forgetting between the STM and LTM is
that memory forgotten from the short term store is lost whereas forgotten memories in the LTM are
still in the system but cannot be retrieved. The sensory, short term, and long term memory stores also
differ from one another in regards to duration (how long information can be stored), capacity (how
much information can be stored), and coding (in what form information can be stored). The sensory
store decays rapidly, has unlimited capacity, and the information is picked up by our senses. Sensory
memory includes iconic (visual), haptic (touch), and echoic (auditory) memories as well. STM lasts 15
30 seconds, is limited to 7 plus/minus 2 units, and is coded acousting. The information in STM is lost
unless it is rehearsed via repetition. On the other hand, LTM can potentially last a lifetime, has
unlimited capacity, and the information stored is primarily semantic but also acoustic and visual. The
strengths of the multi store model include: it stimulated further research into memory processes; it has
considerable evidence for

political thought of modern Europe. No other doctrine of any other political theorist has been so

theorists have actually managed to cause such diverse reactions in the minds of people all over the

The Effects of Subsidizing R D Projects
The effect of startup businesses on economic wealth is a hot topic nowadays. Not everyone agrees
with the current policies concerning entrepreneurship and its effect on innovation, job creation and
economic growth. Shane is one of those people who clearly disagrees with current incentives given by
the government (Shane, 2009). According to him, policy makers should no longer motivate typical
start ups by providing incentives to start a business like loans, subsidies and tax benefits. This namely
attracts marginal entrepreneurs that have a relatively high chance of failure. Instead, policy makers
should focus on the extraordinary entrepreneurs and help them by subsidizing R D projects at small
companies. According to Shane, those funds are much more likely to contribute to economic growth
and to create jobs. In this paper, I want to address this topic and investigate whether this really is the
case. The research question that will be answered is:
Is it possible for governments to pick winners to supply with R D subsidies and is this good policy?
First of all, I will investigate whether it is possible to categorize entrepreneurs into winners and losers
and subsequently I will analyze whether R D funds really contribute to economic growth and create
jobs. Furthermore, I will comment on fairness problems and unfair competition that could arise when
providing funds to elected firms only. Shane s suggestion to improve current policies is to reallocate
resources and

Desecration Of The United States Flag
It should be considered safer to allow a few protestors to burn or disrespect the flag, than to allow the
government to repress our birth rights by banning desecration of the flag. Deemed offensive by many
citizens, and a form of symbolic speech by others, the constitutionality of flag desecration has been in
question since the late 1800s. Desecration of the United States flag is constitutional, as a form of
symbolic speech and protected under the First Amendment, even though many citizens do find it
offensive. The flag has been a symbol for the United States for decades. On June 14, 1777 the first
flag was officially commissioned by the Continental Congress (U.S. Flag, 2005, para. 3). The flag is a
trademark for the freedoms embraced by the citizens of the United States, and is a beacon of hope for
those fighting to keep those freedoms. The flag is greatly respected by the citizens of the United
States. There are multitudinous people who use the flag as a form of protest in ways such as ripping it,
burning it, or trampling on it. These acts are forms of desecration of the flag. Desecration is the use of
something considered sacred in a profane way. Every American is entitled to an opinion and has the
freedom the express these opinions. The flag is a symbol of freedoms, stated and protected in the
Constitution of the United States. The Constitution is the backbone of our country. First written in

Tenets Of Confucianism
The military classics of China represent a long and historical culture of the Chinese people. They
represent the societal concerns and developments of China and within these texts are recurring tenets
that occupied the philosophy of China. Five tenets will be analyzed to show the Confucian
relationship across various military texts. The philosophy of Confucianism permeates throughout the
Chinese history and society beginning with Han Wudi s reign. Confucian influence found within the
texts of the military doctrine. The Confucians pushed for diplomacy to resolve foreign policy
conflicts. Pacifism, as Edmund Ryden states, is not the tenet found in the books however peace is one

Confucianism can be found once more in this strategy as the goal was to kill as few people as
possible, since the goal of warfare wasn t to kill people. Sun tzu favored a primary objective of
subjugating other states without fighting thus diplomatic coercion was the idea method. He stressed
avoiding prolonged warfare. He wrote, Thus the army values being victorious; it does not value
prolonged warfare. This meant maximizing the results with minimum destruction that is inflicted. The
writers like Wei Liao tzu focused on speed, deception, concentration of force, assaulting weak points
while avoiding strengths as strategic ways of forcing the opponent to acquiesce. Brute force warfare
was disdain for a maneuver that provided a quick end to a conflict thus achieving the desired goals
without excess killing.
Confucian ideals permeate through the military texts and the five tenets analyzed as examples of the
relationship between the military texts and Confucianism. The writers of these texts were bound
culturally to the Confucian ideals as they wrote the texts. This relationship emphasized peace more
than pacifism. Benevolence and righteousness can be seen through the various examples showing how
the Confucian view of life was adhered to in these military

bankers (like Lehman) who were meant to sell these instruments also started investing a significant

As Wall Street firms like Lehman were churning more and more home loans into CDOs and selling
them or investing their own money, there was a pressure on the banks to issue more loans so that they

credit quality for availing a home loan and aggressively used agents to source new loans. This slippery
slope went to such an extent that in 2005, almost anyone in the U.S could buy a home worth $100,000
(45 lakhs INR) or more without income proof, without other assets, without credit history, sometimes
even without a proper job.
The U.S. housing market went into a classic speculative bubble. Home loans were easy to get, so more
and more people were buying houses. The increased demand for houses caused the price to increase.
The rising prices created even more demand, as people started to look at homes as investments
investments that never went down in value.

Inuit And Haid Similarities And Differences
Many tribes can be compared to one another. The Inuit and Haida are two. Differences and similarities
go together and make them more like us. They both have many challenges to face. They both have
trouble hunting different animals to eat. Haida has lots warmer weather so they need to wear cooler
clothing. However, Inuit have cold weather so they need much warmer clothing to survive. Another
challenge is how they circumvent around. They can both go on foot, but usually don t. Inuit can also
go by snowmobile and kayaks. Haida can go by canoes they build themselves by hand. These are
different challenges they both face. Each of these tribes has different resources to use. The Inuit have

According to the National Council of Indian Culture of Trinidad and Tobago which stated that Divali
arrived in Trinidad and Tobago over 100 years ago when they immigrated from Indian for the
indentured labourers. Divali has evolved and now is now consider a national holiday but also one of
the biggest religious/cultural celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1966 Divali was officially
declared a public holiday for Trinidad and Tobago which was announced by Bhadase Sagan Maharaj

Hindus started organizing larger celebrations that were opened to the public and this has set the scene
for the way in which Divali is celebrated today. The National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) plays
a tremendous role in the promotion of Divali as a national celebration through its annual celebrations
at Divali Nagar in Chaguanas. Trinidad and Tobago has define Divali as an event that represents
Trinibagians as a multi religious, multi ethnic society. While Divali is essentially a Hindu festival,
people of all faiths actively join in celebrating the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over
ignorance, and good over evil. Diwali is one of the most festive and beautiful times of the year for

Mixed Races In America
States should try to copy what this within has been doing for the past 200 years. Having mixed races is
good for the country because Ohio can teach other states to stop being prejudice to mixed people. This

have actually gone a quite a bit. Even when Abraham Lincoln removed enslaving people did not like
to make mixed races in their family, but the Keiser s and that is what makes their family amazing. If

Why Undergo A Detox Diet
1. What is detox?Detox is the popular short form for detoxification. It describes a natural process that
goes on in your body. The detox process neutralizes toxic wastes which accumulate in your bodies,
chemically transforming them into relatively harmless compounds and then eliminating them from the
body via stools or urine. Toxins enter your body when you breathe in air full of pollutants, consume
junk food, smoke cigarettes or use products that are harmful. The removal of toxins from your body is
a crucial process in order to maintain good health.2. What is a detox diet?Detox diet is a diet that helps

Accident investigators found that a replacement windscreen had been installed 27 hours before the
flight, and that the procedure had been approved by the Shift Maintenance Manager. 84 of the 90
windscreen retention bolts were 0.026 inches too small in diameter, while the remaining six were 0.1
inches too short ( British airways flight 5390, ). The investigation revealed that the previous
windscreen had been fitted with incorrect bolts, which had been replaced on a like for like basis by the
Shift Maintenance Manager without reference to the maintenance documentation. The air pressure
difference between the cabin and the outside during the flight proved to be too much, leading to the
failure of the windscreen. The incident also brought to attention a design flaw in the aircraft of the
windscreen being secured from the outside of the aircraft, putting a greater stress on the bolts than if
they were secured from the inside. Investigators blamed the British Airways Birmingham Airport Shift
Maintenance Manager for installing the incorrect bolts during the windscreen replacement and for
failing to follow official British Airways policies. They also found fault with British Airways policies,
which should have required testing or verification by another person for this critical task. Finally,
investigators blamed the local Birmingham Airport management for not directly monitoring the

Examples Of Superiority In To Kill A Mockingbird
Have you ever wondered how people prove superiority? Superiority is when people try to prove to
others that they are superior. This is something that people think is a lot less common than it actually
is. It happens everyday and can have lifelong effects. Even though our society says that it does not
approve of those who judge someone by their skin color, religion, culture, age, or gender, people often
act out these prejudices with violent behavior because they want to prove their own superiority.
People of various cultures have tried to prove superiority violently. A good example of this is in Night
when the nazis slapped Ellie s father, Then as walking from a deep sleep he slapped my father with
such force that he fell down and then crawled back to his place on all fours (Wiesel 39). This proves

An excellent example of this is in To Kill A Mockingbird when Judge Taylor declares Tom Robinson
guilty Judge Taylor was polling the jury: Guilty...guilty...guilty...guilty... (Lee 282). This has a long
lasting effect on Atticus and the Finch family because they were the ones that was trying to defend
Tom Robinson and not succeeding to defend him hurt the whole town. Another example of this is in
Night when Ellie gives a nobel winning speech I belong to a traumatized generation, one that
experienced the abandonment and solitude of our people (Wiesel 119). This pretty much summarizes
the entire speech and has long lasting effects because he is trying to spread the word and clearly let
others know that it is not ok to do something like this again. A third great example of this is in Prom
Night In Mississippi when the school votes to move away from black and white proms ( Prom Night

every other school in the country does today. Violence can have often have long lasting

Suspense In Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None
Most people would thoroughly enjoy a stay on an exotic private island and then afterwards return to
their normal life. However, this is not the case for the ten main characters of Agatha Christie s novel
And Then There Were None. While they have been invited to Indian Island, an island off the Devon
Coast of England, they are never again able to leave it. Each of the ten people has murdered somebody
and has not received consequences for it. Justice Wargrave, the killer, feels that it is his duty to serve
justice on them. He carefully develops a plan to lure each person to Indian Island, an island off the

To begin with the nursery rhyme, Ten Little Indian Boys , that hangs on the wall in each of the
characters rooms creates suspense. Each person dies in a way similar to one of the deaths in each verse
of the rhyme. The nursery rhyme is scary, as it speaks of death, and foreshadows that the characters on
the island may die soon. At first the people on the island laugh and call the nursery rhyme remarkably
childish. (39) However, they soon start fearing it. If one person dies the same way as in the nursery
rhyme, it may just be a coincidence. As more people die similarly to the nursery rhyme the reader
realizes that the deaths are not accidental. In this way, Christie turns a fun and lighthearted rhyme into
a dark and ominous one. This creates a sense of unease as the reader and the characters begin to
wonder who the next person will be to die and how their death will connect to the rhyme.

Based on one customer s review in Stop and Shop blog, the scanner system sometimes scan a product

product in the cart does not match, the system can tell through a message in the screen. Our system is
also equipped with a security gate which prevent people from leaving the store without paying.
Although RFID technology is implemented, this technology cannot tell whether the shoppers have
paid or not since as long as the shoppers have scanned the products, the magnetic chips on the
products are deactivated. So, security gate will give extra security to our customer. Also, a Stop and
Shop s customer complained about the high product price (due to the implementation of high scanner

Additionally, we are going to use RFID system at the exit gate as well for the security reason (to avoid

Character Analysis Of Wonder Woman
In today s society, there are many different figures to look up to especially those who seem to hold
special powers like superheroes. Most superheroes are similar but there s one that is very different
from the rest and her name is Wonder Woman. She fights evil while still being a Woman making her
the ultimate hero for any young girl to look up to.
Although he didn t picture a woman in his role of a less masculine superman, the idea of Wonder
Woman was first originally created in 1941 by William Moulton Marston. She was used to be seen as
a World War II hero and warrior by having the strength and power of a man but the grace and beauty
of a lady. Wonder Woman fears nothing. She stands for justice, equality, and America. (Arnold
Forster). Since She was created off of honesty and feminism, she carries a whip that stands for the
truth and uses it against her enemies leaving her to be the preeminent hero.
Wonder Woman has many hero like qualities that make her such a marvelous leader. The very first
quality she possesses is her ambition. Her ambitious actions influence her ways of looking and acting
like a hero. The second major quality Wonder Woman holds is her nobility, because she is selfless and
strives to save the lives of anyone and everyone. Not only is she good at what she does, but she also
has a great passion for it. She always strives to be exceptional and treasures the help she gives. The
morals of Wonder Woman are set extremely high

Brief History Of Terrorism In The 19th Century
The history of terrorism is well known as a historically significant personalities, entities and incidents
associated whether rightly or wrongly with terrorism. Scholars agree that terrorism is a uncertain term
and very few of those considered terrorists describe themselves as such. It is common for opponents in
a violent battle to describe the other side as terrorist or as practicing terrorism. Scholars dispute
whether the roots of terrorism date back to the 1st century and the Sicarii Zealots to the 11th century
and the Al Hashshashin to the 19th century and the Fenian Brotherhood and Narodnaya Volya or to
other eras. The Sicarii and the Hashshashin are described below while the Fenian Brotherhood and
Narodnaya Volya are discussed in the 19th Century sub section. Other control of Terror historical
events sometimes associated with terrorism contain the Gunpowder Plot an attempt to destroy the
English Parliament in 1605. Terrorism was also linked with state terror and the Reign of Terror in
France until the mid19th century when the term also began to be associated with nongovernmental
groups. Lawlessness often in league with rising nationalism was the most projecting ideology linked
with terrorism. Attacks by various revolutionary groups led to the assassination of a Russian Tsar and

Valley Forge Life
You wake up cold and slowly rise from your bare cot, shivering. You dress in you re only spare
clothing, and peel back the ripped canvas tent door. As your bare feet step onto the snowy grass, a

You see many bodies being carried out of the makeshift hospitals, as you dread that you might be next.
This is how a day in the life of the Revolutionary War soldiers went through while the army was in
Valley Forge. Would you like to live in these conditions? The Revolutionary War was already at a
disadvantage before they even stepped foot onto the area of Valley Forge. You could say that was
because the soldiers had bad circumstances. They just lost two battles before, Brandywine and
Germantown, so their spirits were low. Most enlisted were from ages 11 to 16, while others were 50 to

Igor Stravinsky Nationalism
Nationalism in music refers to a musical movement originating in the 19th century. It served as a
reaction to German music which dominated the musical scene at the time. It focused particularly on
folk traditions of the composer s national heritage, as well as subjects of national life and history. It
also allowed composers such as Stravinsky to form a greater presence in the musical scene. (Curran
2016 Nationalism in Music ) The early music of Igor Stravinsky often shows nationalistic traits that
reflect his Russian upbringing and influences. In his later compositions he moves beyond this, keeping
continuity through a smooth transition in style from a Russian style of writing to a neoclassical style.

The first is the Russian period which extends to the late 1910s. His works in this period show
nationalist traits (as evident by the name) and include works such as L oiseau de feu (The Firebird)
(1910), Petrushka (1911) and Le sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) (1913). Second is the
neoclassical period which starts in the early 1920s and ends in the early 1950s. This period sees
Stravinsky move beyond nationalism in his music and includes works such as Octet for Wind
Instruments (1923), Oedipus Rex (1927) and Symphony in C (1940). The third and final period of
Stravinsky s works is the serialism period and includes works such as Canticum Sacrum (1955), Agon
(1957) and Requiem Canticles (1966) (Griffiths; Szabo 2011; Taruskin White; Walsh). The transition
between the Russian and neoclassical period is an important time as it highlights shifts in Stravinsky s
compositional techniques and interests. Examples of the transitional works of Stravinsky include Les
Noces (The Wedding) (1917), Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier s Tale) (1918) and Pulcinella (1920)

Throughout Japan s 2600 years of history, there have been many wars and conflicts fought across Japan and the Pacific region. Through the ages, Japan has always had an Emperor at the head of its government, although this role has changed through time. Japan saw many economic changes, the biggest of which occurred after World War II (WWII). With Japan s history, woven in war throughout the Pacific has become a model of strong political standing and near immeasurable economic growth. Japanese chronicles record Jimmu s expedition heading eastward from Hyuga in 607 BCE, continuing along Japan s inland sea, subduing tribes as he went, and ending in Yamato, where he centered his power (Jimmu Legendary Emperor of Japan, 2016.) Emperor Jimmu, formally Jimmu Tenno, is said to be a descendent of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. They are known to be the most popular back in the old days. Bollywood was, and is famous in India, whereas Silent movies were once a huge boom in Hollywood. Each movie s music play a significant role, or portray an important theme for the viewers. These two genres of movie have similarities, as well as differences that make them somehow dissimilar but somehow close to each other. Bollywood, an unauthorized name of the Hindi Film Industry in Mumbai. Some people interpret this name as the whole Indian Cinema, and although the fact that it is the biggest in India, it is only a section of the entire movie Industry. The industry had originated from a movie called Raja Harishchandra, with the unprecedented silent traits, in 1913. After that, the industry had grown so massively in 20 years that it produced more than 200 films annually. The first sound movie was created in 1931, with the first colored movie in the 1950s. One major difference is that in non sense song, only Charlie Chaplin sings, whereas in zindagi hai khel, woman and man sings alternately. For most of the part, the woman repeats what the man had said. There is a huge difference between the instruments used in each of them. In the movie, trombone, violin, cello, and trumpets are utilized whereas the Bollywood manipulates shehnai, tabla, sarangi and zither. This is mainly due to the difference in the countries. Another difference between two is the dynamics. For the Bollywood, the music is on Forte everytime, loud and strong with the tabla and shehnai, but for non sense song, the music only gets loud when Charlie Chaplin is not talking. After he finishes his funny sentence, the music suddenly becomes lurid. When talking, only the violins and cellos are used in a soft ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many scientists suspected that some kind of evolution had given rise to living things around them. However, they had no theory to explain how evolution might have occurred. Two scientists led the way in the search for a mechanism of evolution. The first was Jean Lamarck. The second was one of the greatest figures in biology, Charles Darwin. What is evolution? Evolution is a change in the traits of living organisms over generations. Since the development of modern genetics in the 1940s, evolution has been defined more specifically as a change in the frequency of alleles in a population from one generation ... Darwin was the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural selection. Like several scientists before him, Darwin believed all the life on earth evolved over millions of years from a few common ancestors. From 1831 to 1836 Darwin served as naturalist aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. In South America Darwin found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species. On the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same general type as those in South America. The expedition visited places around the world, and Darwin studied plants and animals everywhere he went, collecting specimens for further study. Upon his return to London Darwin concluded thorough research of his notes and specimens many ideas. Out of this study grew several related theories: one, evolution did occur, two, evolutionary change was gradual, requiring thousands to millions of years, three, the primary mechanism for evolution was a process called natural selection, and four, the millions of species alive today arose from a single original life form through a branching process called specialization. All federal agencies have to make a public announcement for any contracts awards over the $3.5 million or above threshold. The FAR mandates that all federal agencies have to notify the public of the contract awards by 5:00p.m. eastern time zone on the day of the award. According to Compton (2010) The FAR does not require agencies to notify members of Congress when contracts are awarded in their jurisdictions, but agencies typically want to involve congresspeople in the contract award process (Compton, p.195). • 11. Similarities Between The Poem And The Silver Thhread By... I found that my favorite poems from the class are about nature. Poems about nature related the most with me because I find them calming and relaxing. While The Silver Thread by Afaa Michael Weaver and Fall Song by Mary Oliver share similar themes and styles of writing, The Silver Thread is more connected to my life because of my past experiences and the more detailed imagery that it contains throughout the poem. Both poems share a theme involving the beauty of nature. The Silver Thread focuses on the scene of a stream, while Fall Song emphasizes the Fall season. The scene in The Silver Thread shows how nature blends with modern life and civilization when it says, the stream disappears under a bridge made by men so trucks can crawl back and forth over this road of dirt with its one row of grass. This image of a man made bridge over the naturally occurring stream shows a balance in the world between the world s now complicated aspects of life and the simplicity of nature which remains straightforward. I can appreciate the balance represented in this poem because I also try to balance the stresses of life with the beauty of nature. The elegance of nature, which would be hard to recreate. Nature s simplicity gives people a sense of calmness even in bad times. The Silver Thread connects with me better than Fall Song because it relates more to my life. Weaver s poem shows more modern aspects of life, such as the bridge over the water. Because he includes more modern aspects, it is much easier to establish a clear image from his description and imagery. My experiences in life have supplied me with many images matching the description of this stream and bridge. While I have also experienced the Fall season, I do not remember any specific scene from it. The Silver Thread also contains deeper meanings about life within it. It says, while up ahead a curve hides tomorrow from our crystal ball. This is a good metaphor for life, because people can never be sure what the future hides. Anything could be around the corner in life or the river. Fall Song also speaks about time when it says, unmattering back from the particular island of this summer, this Now, that now is nowhere except underfoot. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Memory can be defined as the persistence of learning over time via the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information. Encoding is the process of categorizing incoming information through conscious effortful processing, rehearsal, or unconscious automatic processing. The storage process involves the retention of encoded information over time. Lastly, retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory. There are various types of memory. Sensory memory is the immediate, initial recording of sensory information in the memory system. It also plays a vital role in filtering out useless information, enabling us to focus our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some information from the sensory store moves to the STM by paying attention to information, while some information from the STM moves to the LTM via constant rehearsal of that information. Once that piece of information is stored in the LTM, it is long lasting perhaps even for a lifetime if that certain piece of information is that strong. The difference in forgetting between the STM and LTM is that memory forgotten from the short term store is lost whereas forgotten memories in the LTM are still in the system but cannot be retrieved. The sensory, short term, and long term memory stores also differ from one another in regards to duration (how long information can be stored), capacity (how much information can be stored), and coding (in what form information can be stored). The sensory store decays rapidly, has unlimited capacity, and the information is picked up by our senses. Sensory memory includes iconic (visual), haptic (touch), and echoic (auditory) memories as well. STM lasts 15 30 seconds, is limited to 7 plus/minus 2 units, and is coded acousting. The information in STM is lost unless it is rehearsed via repetition. On the other hand, LTM can potentially last a lifetime, has unlimited capacity, and the information stored is primarily semantic but also acoustic and visual. The strengths of the multi store model include: it stimulated further research into memory processes; it has considerable evidence for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not everyone agrees with the current policies concerning entrepreneurship and its effect on innovation, job creation and economic growth. According to him, policy makers should no longer motivate typical start ups by providing incentives to start a business like loans, subsidies and tax benefits. This namely attracts marginal entrepreneurs that have a relatively high chance of failure. Instead, policy makers should focus on the extraordinary entrepreneurs and help them by subsidizing R D projects at small companies. However, this is not the case for the ten main characters of Agatha Christie s novel And Then There Were None. While they have been invited to Indian Island, an island off the Devon Coast of England, they are never again able to leave it. To begin with the nursery rhyme, Ten Little Indian Boys , that hangs on the wall in each of the characters rooms creates suspense. Each person dies in a way similar to one of the deaths in each verse of the rhyme. The nursery rhyme is scary, as it speaks of death, and foreshadows that the characters on the island may die soon. At first the people on the island laugh and call the nursery rhyme remarkably childish. (39) However, they soon start fearing it. If one person dies the same way as in the nursery rhyme, it may just be a coincidence. As more people die similarly to the nursery rhyme the reader realizes that the deaths are not accidental. She would watch as I flipped through the pages of a book, imitating the act of reading. I had adapted my behavior to make it through class without notice, but had not yet figured out how to pass her reading comprehension quizzes. After gently questioning me about it, she sent me to the school counselors to get tested for learning disabilities. As she suspected, the tests came back with multiple diagnoses: dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and a lack of short term memory. Being a third grader, those words had no meaning to me, but little did I know how they would force me to create adaptations that prepared me for Washington University Law School. It also allowed composers such as Stravinsky to form a greater presence in the musical scene. (Curran 2016 Nationalism in Music ) The early music of Igor Stravinsky often shows nationalistic traits that reflect his Russian upbringing and influences. This period sees Stravinsky move beyond nationalism in his music and includes works such as Octet for Wind Instruments (1923), Oedipus Rex (1927) and Symphony in C (1940). The third and final period of Stravinsky s works is the serialism period and includes works such as Canticum Sacrum (1955), Agon (1957) and Requiem Canticles (1966) (Griffiths; Szabo 2011; Taruskin White; Walsh). The transition between the Russian and neoclassical period is an important time as it highlights shifts in Stravinsky s compositional techniques and interests.
