The New Communistic Approach
The new communistic approach
1917 1918, the Russian Revolution emerged centering around two essential events: the February
Revolution, in which the Czar was overthrown, and the October Revolution, in which the Bolsheviks
took over power resulting in the creation of the world s first communist country led by Vladimir
Lenin. This resulted in the brutal, cruel and bloody Civil War. What was left was an extreme regime
that was to rule Russia until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, which also meant the end of
communism. Despite the creation of an extreme regime, including suppression, forced labor camps,
execution of people with different ideologies, bribes etc., the communists had a great goal at first. The
Communist Party wanted to achieve social and financial equality in a classless and stateless society in
which the fulfillment of human needs including satisfying work and an equal share of benefit derived
from labor was essential.
Although communism didn t succeed in Russia, it is, in theory, the solution for a utopian world,
existing of equal human rights, freedom, shelter, food etc. But why did communism fail? There are
many theories about that, it was, for example, due to the leaders abusing their power turning the
communistic government into a tyrannical dictatorship. Or, another theory is, that it is due to the
people s greed, always wanting more than others resulting in conflicts between one another, like the
Civil War. Our main question is: How can we govern a

Informative Essay Hook
Pinkston, Anna Dr. Jeff Newberry ENGL 1101H August 26, 2017 As my ninth grade English teacher,
Mrs. Newton would say, without a good hook to start your essay, no one will ever read it. As I was
taught, a hook is a crucial part in your essay because it will help grab the audience s attention so that
they will continue to be invested throughout the paper. For example, the hook could be a question or a
quote about the overall topic of your essay. In my junior year, we had to do a controversial essay and I
used a quote from a famous tattoo artist as my hook because I did my essay over tattoos and piercings.
After the hook, the introduction begins to take form and show the audience what your essay is about.
The introduction is the first thing in your essay that will tell the audience what the essay is about. The
introduction paragraph should be as interesting as the initial hook and keep the audience invested in
the paper. It will establish the basis of the essay and should contain the thesis statement. The thesis
statement is the point in your essay where you will state the topics that the essay will contain. In high
school, we were taught that the thesis should contain the three points that you will elaborate upon in
your three body paragraphs: the weakest point, the middle point, and the strongest point. The first
body paragraph should be the weakest or simplest way to get the overall point of the essay across to
the readers. This will be the foundation of all three points,

The nature of the cruelty in Hammurabi s Codex is surly according to the culture of people back in
that period of time  Criminal Law. To explain more about the Code s nature, it begins with direction
for legal procedure and the statement of penalties for unjust accusations, false testimony, and injustice
done by judges; then follow laws concerning property rights, loans, deposits, debts, domestic property,
and family rights. The sections covering personal injury indicate that penalties were imposed for
injuries sustained through unsuccessful operations by physicians and for damages caused by
negligence in various trades  (product liability). Rates are fixed in the code for commerce and trade.
Later in the report, this part will be explained further. II. CULTURAL ANALYSIS 2.1 Social Layers:
Laws are usually inspired and taken from the common knowledge of the society, whether the common
knowledge was good or bad it does not make a difference. To illustrate, common laws derive from
ethical backgrounds passed through generation to generation, where they feel that these traditions are
sacred, and they cannot change it, because they fear the resistance that might develop form that
change. Similarly, any religion after certain time gets to change in the name of modernity and prestige.

Pros And Disadvantages Of Subjective Video Quality Assessment
Subjective Video Quality Assessment for QoE

Introduction
The video quality evaluation was put forward to the birth of video technology, it is performed to
evaluate the quality of a set of video sequences under study. Video quality can be evaluated by
objective video quality and subjective video quality, the objective video quality can be evaluated by
some parameters of objective video quality classified from the original signal and the received signal,
but we cannot judge the video is good or not, just from some objective parameters. Therefore, it is
necessary to evaluate the subjective video quality at some standardized testing methods. That is what

This test method have a better performance in video quality with time varying compression system, in

However, the test video sequence is very long, it results in a problem of the test method that it will not

reason, so the result of SSCQE is independently. In addition, the selected test video sequence may

Charge Card Advantages And Disadvantages
The liberalization of the money related divisions in Asia has brought about the fast spread of charge
card organizations and monetary organizations giving different sorts of purchaser credit. The charge
card market in general world has extended radically that the guarantors of outside nations has
presented cellular telephone Visas for the comfort of their customers.(Amin, 2008) This, combined
with the passage of remote banks, has enormously expanded the quantity of credit cards accessible,
and consequently such spending in Pakistan. Despite the fact that charge card was presented in
Pakistan decades prior when Habib Bank, the biggest bank in Pakistan, dispatched its gold card,

Euthanasi The End Product Of An Ill Individual
Euthanasia transpires to be the end product of an ill individual s life with the intention of releasing
them of their misery. It happens to be typical for an individual to undergo euthanasia for the reason of
an inoperable illness they may have. There are various occurrences where individuals have the desire
to terminate their lives at their request, whereas a selection of individuals become extremely ill and the
decision stands to be made by the next of kin, medical team, or the court depending on certain
circumstances. People may ask if it is humane to euthanize a person or not, nonetheless shouldn t
society be asking if it remains humane to force them to suffer if they establish the choice to stop their
life sooner to stop that suffering. Could it be morally our responsibility to talk the person out of
intending to hasten their death? Or does it label us less compassionate if society refuses to assist in
carrying out their wishes. Is there a difference between killing an individual and letting an individual
die. Euthanasia is a well debated topic, is it morally acceptable, is it cruel and unusual, or should it be
a crime.
James Rachels disputes that there is no ethically significance between killing and letting die, in which
there is no difference between active and passive euthanasia. In his view, active euthanasia happens to
be compassionate towards the individual than passive euthanasia. It is essential to understand the
difference between the two in which one idea

Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
Amir Ayoub
Fordham University
Abstract
This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we
began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the
lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting
Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food
whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two,
three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the
food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do
things that have a positive outcome more.
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a
neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time
this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. Operant
conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through reinforcements and punishments for behavior
and encourages associating desirable or undesirable outcomes with certain behaviors.

Literature Review Of Literature On Influenza
Review of literature: Acute respiratory infections are a major cause of human disease and are one of
the most important causes of child mortality throughout the globe. Though there are considerable
variations in infantile mortality, according to World Health Organization, the lower respiratory tract
infections are the second most important cause of death among children 5 years of age. (Carolina et

Respiratory syncytial virus is most frequently detected in childhood illness. Factors predisposing to

The multiplication of the virus occurs in the respiratory tract and the main site of infection occurs in
the ciliated columnar epithelial cell. Crowded areas and cold climate favours the spread of the virus.
Highest incidence of influenza infection is seen in young population which may be due to lack of
exposure to different strains. Children are mainly affected during epidemics (Rao, 2003). The
influenza virus triggers pulmonary inflammation resulting in infiltration of inflammatory cells and an
immune response. The primary target and the principal host for the virus are Bronchial epithelial cells.
Generally influenza viruses are recognized and destroyed by innate immune mechanisms which
includes macrophages, interferon (IFN) a, b and other cytokines, natural killer (NK) cells and
complement. If influenza viruses escape from these early defense mechanisms, they are captured and
destroyed by adaptive immune mechanisms, where T and B cells and their antigen specific effectors
(cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cytokines such as IFNc and antibodies) target the virus. subsequent viral
infection is prevented by Antigen specific memory cells (T and B cells) (Capelozzi et al.,

The Jahiliyya Period Versus the Qur anic Period Essay
The concept of Jahiliyya has been widespread throughout the Pre Islamic world. Jahiliyya is
ultimately the act of ignorance. Many people often worshipped idols and obeyed them as if they were
God. Whenever a calamity would befall them, they would immediately turn to the idols and ask them
for assistance. Unknowingly, the people of the Pre Islamic world thought that these idols possessed the
authority to quickly take care of manners in a timely fashion. Many people who lived in the Pre
Islamic world frankly did not know that these idols were incapable of guiding them in any way, shape,
or form. How was poetry significant in the Pre Islamic world? Many turned to poetry to express their
feelings and ideas. They were able to articulate their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And far is He above the partners they ascribe (to Him)! (Surat: Yunus, Qur an 10:18). Due to their
ignorance, they also possessed a sense of arrogance. Allah warns us that he does not like those who
are arrogant because it in turn leads to ignorance. The disbelievers did not feel ashamed of themselves
when they associated other figures with Allah. However, their connection with poetry allowed them to
express their feelings and uncensored lives, freely. They used poetry as a means of articulating life
through a different perspective. Their lack of understanding their purpose in the worldly life put them
at a great disadvantage. Jahiliyya poetry has been widely recognized as poetry of those who were in a
state of bewilderment. Many of them disregarded the message that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was
sent to spread, which was ultimately the truth. An analogy that sums up the lives of those living in the
period of Jahiliyya would be, The Elephant in the room, which virtually refers to something apparent
that one disregards. This can be seen as someone who acknowledges the truth, but decides not to
follow it. The people who were part of the Jahiliyya period lived a dishonorable way of life. They
knew if they accepted the message of Islam, many of the events that they took part of would

Is Julius Caesar Honorable
Thousands of memorable and remarkable speeches have been given throughout history, from Jay
Silveria at the U.S. Air Force Academy to Meryl Streep at the Oscars. Among those includes Mark
Antony s famous speech in William Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. This
unforgettable speech takes place at Caesar s funeral where Antony turns a bewildered, aghast crowd of
mourners into enraged rioters using Caesar s will, Caesars body, and the word honorable. Mark
Antony uses Caesar s will to ignite a fire within the Roman people. Halfway through Antony s speech,
he showed the crowd Caesar s will and said, ...I must not read it; / It is not meet you know how Caesar
loved you. (3.2.139 140). Antony uses reverse psychology by telling the crowd he will not read the
will aloud, to make the Romans want to hear what the will says. It will inflame you, it will make you
mad: / Tis good you know not that you are his heirs; (3.2.143 144). Antony subtly mentions the fact

Brutus and the rest of the conspirators as honorable because he can not say anything bad about the

honorable man. (3.2.96 97) Antony tells the crowd that Brutus believed Caesar was ambitious and
Brutus is a trustworthy man. By doing this, Antony is leaving the crowd questioning if they believe
Brutus or not. Then, Antony showed the crowd deceased Caesar and his wounds. He pointed to each
wound and would label it with the name of an individual conspirator to make the experience more
personal and heart wrenching. Antony went into detail of the assassination, which made the crowd
weep for Caesar. At this moment, Antony says, They that have done this deed are honorable: (3.2.213)
which twists the meaning of honorable

your teeth. This article brings you useful tips for getting you teeth white and keeping them that way.
Mouthwash may be causing some of your teeth discoloration. All of the alcohol and excess chemicals
that are present in mouthwash cause yellowish stains, because they remove the enamel on your teeth
that keeps them white. Check with your dentist, though, to be sure that you have healthy enough teeth

The high acid content of strawberry juice helps you to remove discolorations from your tooth enamel.
This does not cost a lot of money and will help provide you with a beautiful smile.
Consider using natural coconut oil for whitening your teeth. Giving your teeth a 10 minute daily rinse
in coconut oil can have great effects on the whiteness of your smile. After approximately 10 minutes,
make sure to spit it out, then brush like normal. You should start seeing results after just a few days.
TIP! These bits of food will get caught in your teeth and leave stains. A great way to avoid getting
stains is by chewing sugar free gum.
Toothpastes that claim they will make your teeth whiter usually dont work. Although these toothpastes
provide some degree of whitening, you are going to need other, stronger methods to get your teeth as
white as you want them. If you insist on buying a whitening toothpaste, make sure to get one that has
baking soda in it.
Although mouthwashes help to improve the health of your mouth, they also cause teeth discoloration.

In theory, it has been proved that futures and swaps can be equal to the combination of forwards. (Hull
J C, 1997)Generally, a foreign exchange settlement contract will be signed by banks and their
customers, which stipulates the type of foreign currency to be used, the sum, the exchange rates and
duration. On the due date when income or expenditure of foreign exchange occurs, currency exchange
settlement will be operated in accordance with the contract. In order to improve efficiency, it s
necessary to adjust the hedging when using forward contracts. (Brealey R, Kaplanis E. 1995)When the
interest rate fluctuates randomly, the forwards strategy can be divided into three smaller parts: the
Minimum Variance Hedging, Merton / Breeden Hedging and speculation. (Briys E, Solnik B.

forward contracts. Perfect hedge can be achieved, no matter what type of hedging tools is used.
However, the two is no longer able to replace each other when interest rates move randomly, because
of the existence of marking to market in futures market operation. The above selection is based on the

The Blair Witch Project is a highly successful and widely innovative independent film that was
released on July 30th, 1999. The film followed three student filmmakers who aimed to create a

In many ways, The Blair Witch Project adheres to various tropes and traditions of the horror movie
genre. The film includes some characteristics of the Italian Giallo genre. In both genres, the killer is
unknown and unseen to the audience. The giallo underscores the theme of sight and the ability to see
clearly (Bondanella 381). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The monster triumphs over the protagonist(s), normative order is never restored, and the fates of the
the main characters and the monster are left uncertain (Pinedo 29 34). In The Blair Witch Project, the
protagonists are reported missing but we never see what actually happened to them. The town begins
exhaustive searches to find the students. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the film to
haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project plays on
insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to run into
abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists do not.
The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or commenting at
the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre.
The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls the pleasure of not seeing . She mentions that, The
blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the
terrifying spectacle (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the
camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see. In the darkness of the
night in the woods, the protagonists and the audience are unable to see what is terrorizing the main
characters in the night. In this sense, we express the same anxieties and fears of the

The Day After Roswell By Philip J. Corso
No child had such an oversized balloon shaped head. It didn t even look human, although it had
human like features (18). This is a description of an extraterrestrial from the Roswell incident in the
book The Day After Roswell written by Col. Philip J. Corso (Ret.) with WIlliam J. Birnes. This book
is quite the interesting read to say the least. Extraterrestrials, flying saucers, and foreign technology
are some of the complications in Corso s autobiography during his time in military intelligence
working at The Pentagon. Corso describes everything between the events of a flying saucer crash that
occurred in Roswell, NM. on July 4, 1947 to the modern day technology that the United States has
managed to reverse engineer due to the crash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was head of the project. Corso was diving much deeper than just the surface of a U.F.O. conspiracy
theory. If anyone s story should be believed it should be Corso s. It is easy to dismiss many of the
eyewitness reports, as after a while everyone was an eyewitness just to get some fame. Corso actually
worked on the project in The Pentagon. Many people believe this story is too outlandish to believe.
This is the strategy that The Foreign Technology Desk decided to go for. Between the time of the
Roswell crash and the beginning of The Foreign Technology Desk, the Air Force had branched off
from the Army, taking artifacts with it. This added another layer to difficulty to keeping the story
secret. At first, the military blew off the Roswell crash as a weather balloon and threatened majority of
the eye witnesses. This had kept them quiet for a while but people eventually talk. The military
decided to stop covering it up and would leak little bits of information to people who would make
something out of it. Corso states, This was called camouflage with limited exposure (85). This was in
order to make the talking witnesses to look like nut jobs. If they denied it like it was nothing, then the
media thought it was nothing. Eventually tabloids would buy the stories and then the credibility was
lost. This built an alien

Buying a New Home
This paper will address what to consider when buying a new home and what affects like marginal
benefit, marginal cost, strength of the economy, domestic economy, and international trade, can have
on situations and the conditions when making a decision to purchase a home. The principles of
economics can directly relate to the purchase of a house, because you must consider all the possible
affects your decision might have and the principles do a great job at helping you be more analytical
with your decision and your reasoning to buy. When you consider marginal benefit to a home

This value of U.S. currency does affect company profits, their budgeting, as well as manufacturing
costs. There are ramifications from a decrease in value of the dollar, examples are; capital investment,
multiple plant openings and closings. Because many companies over time have outsourced work to
foreign companies because the cost to employ people is cheaper, but the dollar has decrease in value
which is returning the factories or call centers back to the U.S. International trade is very important to
our domestic economy as it does decrease the value and power of the dollar, which will then change
our ability to afford things at a respectable price. This is the reason for consideration when purchasing
a home; these factors are necessary to your dream of owning a home. But when these factors are what
they are right now, you can see why many might find a purchase like a home is out of reach with the
decreased value of the dollar and a struggling economy. If Americans can start doing things a little
different, like consuming less and finding ways to innovate new ideas and more efficient ways to do
more, we can then find a solution to these failures in our economy.
For me at this time in life I see buying a home a good thing and a decision I am ready to commit too.
My reasoning is the location of where I am going to buy. Markets around the nation are very different

Anglo Saxon Exile Essay
During the time of the Anglo Saxon s there were many things that would cause a person stress, such as
protecting their kingdom, earning honor, and living in a Godly way, but the thing that caused the most
panic was the thought of exile. Exile was the force or chosen movement of a person out of their
kingdom and away from their family. The Anglo Saxon s were so concerned with the idea of exile,
they added it into many of their lyric poems like The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and The Wife s Lament
to show the consequences of being forced to leave their home. The poem s would bring fear to the
Anglo Saxon s and showed them the correct way to live and behave within their communities. The

Exile could only be the result of two different causes, chosen by themselves or forced by their people.
Chosen exile would deal with the Anglo Saxon s who wanted to leave their homes for many months in
search of treasure or a new home. The main character in The Seafarer, shows this form of exile with
his yearning and decision return to the sea every year to look for treasure in far away lands rather than
staying at home and living with his tribe. Also, a minor character, the wife s husband, in The Wife s
Lament shows this form of exile when he willingly leaves his wife at home to go in search of
something more at sea. Forced exile was for the Anglo Saxon s who had broken a tribe rule or had no
tribe left to be with. The main character in The Wife s Lament was forced to leave her home by her
lord, husband, when he returned home from sea and found her living with another man in his absence.
Another example, would be the main character in The Wanderer, who was forced to travel and live
alone on the sea after all the members of his tribe had died and he had nowhere to go or no kinsmen to

The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Gain and loss are intimately connected and in a constant struggle for balance. This pair of themes is
intertwined through many works of literature, such as, Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, William
Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew, and Robert L. Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde. Each of these works consists of elements of gain and loss that serve a very crucial
purpose to both the characters and the plot. For instance in Frankenstein and The Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde we find that, oftentimes, in order to gain understanding about life, one loses a lot
in life. And in The Taming of the Shrew, readers see that someone s gain can be another s loss. I have

Unfortunately, his thirst for eminence clouded his practical judgment and his morality. Frankenstein
made a choice. A choice that resulted in a great fall from which he was never, never again to rise
(Shelley, 188). He chose to sacrifice the world he had originally wanted to advance and abandoned his
own creation in a hypercritical world and consequently lost his humanity. Meanwhile, his creation
battled to understand the world around him. He hoped to gain many things from this beautiful world
for he had nothing to lose besides curiosity and innocence. Sadly, the creation lost even his innocence
and initial fascination and instead gained hate, anger, and vengeance on his creator. He gained an
understanding of how people judge others by their appearances despite their true nature and well
intentioned actions. He realized that no one will accept him despite his efforts and so he lost the
respect and compassion he had for humans and despised his creator for bringing him into such a
hateful world. He was compelled to commit actions that defied his own morals and hence lost his will
to be good. He once disclosed the pain he suffers when murdering humans. Do you think that I was
then dead to agony and remorse?... My heart was fashioned to be susceptible of love and sympathy,
and when wrenched by misery to vice and hatred, it did not endure the violence of the change without
torture such as you cannot even imagine (Shelley, 195). Eventually, Dr.

Widow s Web
Gordon Grice utilizes the black widow spider to elucidate the evils of the world, throughout the essay
Caught in the Widow s Web. Grice, an essayist, is enchanted by the ways of the arachnid and hunts the
creatures. His vast knowledge on the spiders prevails in an informative tone, but the writing is slightly
eerie, adding depth to the unnerving characterization. Gordon Grice depicts the black widow as one of
the deadliest arachnids and through his use of literary devices and distinct modes of writing he
intertwines the methods of the widow with the evil ways of our world. Grice implements the modes of
description and narration through the identity of the black widow spider to illustrate his deeper
meaning. The author s fascination of the spider is fostered through detailed explication of the customs

The evil in our world is brought into the picture when Grice compares the killing of a black widow to
an enemy whose death is not sufficient but must be followed by the murder of his children and the
salting of his land and whose unclean remains must not touch our hands (8). The author directly
compares the disgust of the spider s remnants, after killing it, to the revulsion one experiences after
murdering a human. The ugly webs of the black widow spider correlates to the ugly messes of evil
throughout an individual s life. The widow s web is painted by messy looking tangles in the corners
and bends of things and under logs and debris (2). Humans value order and cleanliness over disarray,
which is equivalent to evil. Grice portrays this through the black widow s webs and their state of being
unkempt. In other words, Grice s metaphor of untidiness compared to disorder and evil gives the
readers another example of how the spider and evil in the world directly

The Physics of a Diesel Engine Essay
The Physics of a Diesel Engine
The world we live in is surrounded by diesel engines. They are on the freeways, railways, airways,
and are one of the leading electricity producers in the world. They are also becoming more popular in
automobiles. These engines are efficient and reliable and they are getting very sophisticated. However,
the physics behind these engines has not changed.
By way of definition, courtesy of Diesel Engine
Engineering: [a] diesel engine is an internal combustion engine in which the chemical energy of fuel is
transformed into thermal energy of the cylinder charge, in consequence of the self ignition and
combustion of fuel in the engine cylinder after compression of the air charge in the cylinder (p1 ...

The piston then travels down pulling in fresh air, (third stroke), after the piston bottoms again it travels
up compressing the fresh air, (fourth stroke). The fuel is then injected and one cycle is completed in
720 degrees or two full rotations of the crankshaft.
The disadvantage of two stroke engines is their dependency on a blower to force air into the chamber
and their inefficiency. A four stroke engine does not have an expansion stroke every 360 degrees but it
is more efficient because it has more time to completely burn the fuel injected into the cylinder.
There are mechanical and fundamental differences between the two stroke and four stroke engines but
the physics remain the same. They both rely upon the compressed air to ignite the pressurized fuel and
the resulting expansion for their power. At first glance it may look like the explosion in the chamber
does the work but upon further inspection you can see the physics involved. There are two questions I
would like to address. The first question is what is the physics behind the compressed air raising the
temperature upwards of 900 degrees. The second question is what is the physics behind the rapid
expansion of the ignited air fuel mixture.
The physics behind the temperature increase of compressed air begins with a fresh charge of air. The
air fills the combustion chamber when the cylinder is at bottom dead center. As the

How Did The Industrial Revolution Affect European Society
The industrial revolution was when changes in agriculture, manufacturing, work ethics, transportation
and technology became more advanced. The revolution made social economics and culture prosper.
This spread during the 18th and 19th century in Europe. Europe was the first place to start this
revolution because it had the resources to advance technology and it was politically stable. Most
people made a living in small towns and were farmers. A large amount of people at the time were
poor, and malnourished, disease was also a common issue to encounter. The European industrial

revolution was so successful that it influenced another one.

The Actions Of Vitamin D Other Than Those On Bone
Essay: Discuss the actions of Vitamin D other than those on bone.
Abstract: Vitamin D (VD) is known to be involved in absorption of calcium in the gut with deficiency
in VD playing a part in many bone related disorders like rickets and osteoporosis. Less known are the
other beneficial health effects VD may have. VD has shown to have a positive effective on the
immune system by not assisting the innate and adaptive immune response, but by also dulling the
autoimmune response. This may be important in fighting disease like TB where VD deficiency is an
issue. There also appear to be mechanisms that assist disease states such as cardiovascular disease,
cancer and diabetes that VD may assist in however these studies are inconclusive and further study is
required.

Stanford Prison Experiment Essay
When put into an authoritative position over others, is it possible to claim that with this new power
individual(s) would be fair and ethical or could it be said that ones true colors would show? A group of
researchers, headed by Stanford University psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo, designed and executed
an unusual experiment that used a mock prison setting, with college students role playing either as
prisoners or guards to test the power of the social situation to determine psychological effects and
behavior (1971). The experiment simulated a real life scenario of William Golding s novel, Lord of the

To ensure to have satisfactory results in his study, Zimbardo required some preconditions. One of
which was the period of time for the experiment to be conducted. He believed that one to two weeks
would be essential in providing our research participants with sufficient time for them to become fully
engaged in their experimentally assigned roles of either guards or prisoners. Having [our] participants
live in that setting day and night, if prisoners, or work for long eight hour shifts, if guards, would also
allow sufficient time for situational norms to develop and patters of social interaction to emerge,
change and become crystallized (Zimbardo, 2013). Other preconditions he had were the mentalities of
his volunteers; are they normal, healthy mentally and physically, are they without any prior history of
conviction or drug usage? Some other preconditions were to make the experimental setting bear a
resemblance as closely to a functional simulation of the psychology of imprisonment as humanly
possible. He also wanted to make sure that there was the absence of any earlier indoctrination in how
to play the randomly assigned roles; to leave that up to each participant s prior societal teachings of
the meaning of prisons and the behavioral scripts associated with the oppositional roles (Zambardo,
2005). Although he had a significantly large abundance

Why Is Adrienne Rich Claiming An Education Summary
In Adrienne Rich s essay, Claiming an Education , the author speaks about the female experience
against the male dominated academic scene. Despite the fact that this essay was written in 1979, a
number of Rich s points seem timeless. Rich encourages young women to insist on a life of
meaningful work. As a seventeen year old student, I have often heard from my female companions
that they anticipate a higher education as an opportunity to hunt down a spouse. The frequency and
zeal of this conclusion, seeing education only as means of marriage, strikes me as particularly pitiful
and archaic. Adrienne Rich s thesis in Claiming an Education aptly expresses the array of roles women
hold in societies, the benefits, and weaknesses of our education system, as well as the struggles that
women are exposed to. She successfully develops her thesis statement by the effective use of a variety
of methods of development and various literary devices to improve her writing quality and to help
readers interpret her message. I agree with Rich s thesis statement because education entails being
responsible for oneself, not just for women, but for all students.
Rich uses effective methods of development to further expand her thesis statement. The use of
compare and contrast and definition is seen in certain sections of the essay. Comparing and contrasting
illuminates the subtle differences and similarities, which increases the reader s understanding. For

Analysis Of Coming Of Age By Anne Moody
At an early age many children are oblivious to issues in society like race relations, and they are easily
influenced by their parents. The book Coming of Age by Anne Moody, takes place during the civil
rights era in the United States. All of the white children stop playing with Anne after an incident in at
the movie theater. These kids were influenced by their parents who didn t want them interacting with
African Americans. Anne Moody s learns about the significance of race in American social life as well
as the differences between the lives of blacks and whites through her experiences at home, school and
work. These experiences help prepare Anne to join the civil rights movement. At home, Anne
experienced firsthand the poverty many African Americans faced, she experienced discrimination and
intimidation in the work employer Mrs. Burke and at the diner by white customers, and she also dealt
with segregated schooling. Through her life at home Anne Moody experienced poverty and
understood the differences between the lives of blacks and whites. Anne spent a large majority of her
child in extreme poverty, having to work after school to help provide for her family her mother was a
maid for white women, but her income was not enough to buy food and clothes for Anne and her
sister. Food in the book was a key distinction in status of whites and blacks. On most days they would
only eat bread and beans and on a good day they thrived off of milk, peanut butter or table scraps from
the white families they worked for. White families didn t know how to cook good food or prepare food
hygienically. Moody realizes this while working for Miss Ola. Moody states, After eating the food
Miss Ola I could see how Mama had to do the cooking because white women didn t know how
(Moody 37). Anne follows up with a detailed description of mucus dripping out of Miss Ola s nose
right into the soup she is about to feed them. Whites compared blacks to animals. Anne s mother used
to buy milk from the white lady on the hill until Anne discovered the lady would leave the milk out
and let her cats drink out of it and then sell that same milk to the African Americans in the community

Throughout most of Shakespeare s plays, evil characters are not uncommon, but in my own opinion,
Iago has to be one of – if not the most interesting. Even though Iago might be described by some as
being just pure evil or even intolerable , the truth still remains that people will read deeper into the
play just to see what Iago will do next. Through his words and actions, which are carefully thought
out, Iago is able to manipulate others for his personal benefit. Not only that, but he also manipulates
people to get him closer to his goals. He is no doubt the driving force of the play, pushing Othello and
everyone else towards the tragic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He figures this will make Cassio lose his position as Lieutenant, thereby making him the new
Lieutenant. Cassio falls for the trick, fights Roderigo, and loses his position. This leaves Iago with
what he wanted all along which is to be Lieutenant. With all of Iago s actions throughout the play, it is
clear to see not only is he evil, but he has no conscience. As the play unfolds, Iago constantly lies and
deceives people. From his wife, to his friends, it doesn t matter. In just about every scene of the play,
one can point out his deception or scheme. In one scene, Iago actually tricks Othello into believing
that Desdemona, his own wife, is having an affair with Cassio. Then he ironically warns Othello about
jealousy:
O, beware my lord of jealousy;
It is the green eye d monster which doth mock
The meat it feeds on (3.3, 165 167)
and manages to convince Othello without any concrete proof, which is amazing. After this, Othello is
so filled with rage and caught up in Iago s lies that he refuses to believe Desdemona when she denies
everything. Othello knows that he can t let her live knowing that he has been ridiculed:
But alas, to make me the fixed figure for the time of scorn.
To point his slow unmoving finger at! (4.2, 53 55)
Since he can t live in such a role, he murders Desdemona. At this point, much credit has to be given to
Iago even if people don t like him. His manipulative power, which gives him the ability to bend

When I think of the summer I was sixteen, a lot of things some crowding in to be thought about. We
had moved just the year before, and sixteen is still young enough that the bunch makes a difference. I
had a bunch, all right, but they weren t sure of me yet. I didn t know why. Maybe because I d lived in
town, and my father still worked there instead of farming, like the other fathers did. The boys I knew,
even Freddy Gray and J.D., still kept a small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men came from miles around to look at it. Mr. Wills wouldn t let them go into the melon patch. They
had to stand around the edge.
Just like all other daredevil boys in that country, I guess, Freddy Gray and
J.D. and I had talked idly about stealing that giant watermelon. But we all knew that it was just talk.
Not only were we afraid of Mr. Wills and his rages but we knew that Mr. Wills sat in the hayloft
window of his barn every night with his shotgun, guarding the melon. It was his seed melon. He meant
to plant next year s crop out of that great one and maybe raise a whole field of them. Mr. Wills was in
a frenzy of fear that somebody would steal it. Why, he would rather you stole Willadean than his
melon. At least, he didn t guard Willadean with his shotgun.
Every night I could sit on our front porch and see Mr. Wills sitting up there in the window of his
hayloft, looking fiercely out over his melon patch. I d sit there by the hour and watch him, the shotgun
cradled in his arm, and feel the tremors of fear and excitement chasing up and down my spine. Look at
him, my father would say. Scared to death somebody will steal his seed melon. Wouldn t anybody
steal a man s seed melon.
He ought to be in the house taking care of that wife of his, my mother would say tartly. She s been
poorly all year.
You hardly ever saw Mrs. Wills. She was a wraith of a

Summary Of Hester Prynne By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Chapter 2 3: Hester Prynne is a young woman who was put in jail for the crime of adultery. In the first
introduction Hester is perceived as someone who does not care what other people think of her and will
stare down the barrel of a gun. The author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, compares Hester to her babe by
showing how they are both shunned by the people viewing them. Hawthorne contrats them when
Hester stands upon the scaffold with her head held high, while her babe cries out. As Hester walks out
of her prison and stands upon the scaffold for viewing and public shame, the holier than though
women gossip about Hester s sin and shames her for her sins. The men view Hester the same way, a
sinner that should be punished and shamed.
Chapter 4 5: Hester Prynne s husband reveals himself as a doctor and offers to help her and her babe.
Her husband says that he will not hurt her adulterous partner and will spare her as well and not act as
if his wife has just cheated on him. Although he has given Hester his word, Hester is still terrified by
his words. Thy acts are like mercy, said Hester, bewildered and appalled. But thy words interpret thee
as a terror! (44). Hester s husband who named himself Roger Chillingworth, he states that he tricked
Hester into a marriage where she did not love her husband and therefore he had wronged her first.
When I betrayed thy budding youth into a false and unnatural relation with my decay. Therefore, as a
man who has not thought and philosophized in

Impact Of Trade Agreements On An International Scale
I. Introduction
Trade agreements have been around for the past several centuries, and naturally, they have evolved.
Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s
products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade
agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize
circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. Evolving still, trade agreements have now grown into
massive collectives between nations that regulate more than just trade. Moreover, these agreements
have become political tools to cement solidarity between nations, and are used to harmonize economic
regulation on an international scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than just economic integration, however, the TPP presented an opportunity for the United States
to alter the economic power dynamics in the Asia Pacific. As the lead on TPP, the United States would
have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network
surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft
the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder
for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted.
Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and
counteracting China s economic clout in the region. Newly elected President Donald Trump, however,
has already come out and stated his opposition to the TPP; indeed, going so far as to include US
withdrawal from the TPP as part of his agenda for his first day in office.
The TPP has faced public scrutiny during this election year particularly because of the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which has been decried by the public for some time. Loss
of American jobs has largely fueled the outrage at NAFTA, but other issues exist as well. For example,
TPP provisions on investor rights, like in NAFTA the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS)
process would allow international arbitral bodies to hear challenges to a state s legal rules. This

What Is The Implementation Of PPP In The Compensation System
3.1.1 Implementation Mechanisms
Implementation of PPP in the liability and compensation regime is seen through adequate reference to
mechanisms such as compulsory insurance and compensation funds whereby a ship owner is required
to constitute a fund with the Court for the total limit of his liability to avail the benefit of limitation ,
and maintain compulsory insurance certified by the appropriate State authority for any ship carrying
more than 2,000 tons of oil .
3.1.2 Loss of Right to Limit Liability
There is very narrow scope for a ship owner to be exonerated from strict liability. It requires proof that
damage resulted from war or was wholly caused by an intentional act or omission of a third party or
by negligence of an authority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Small Tanker Oil Pollution Indemnification Fund (STOPIA) was established to raise maximum
amount of compensation payable for small ships and the Tanker Oil Pollution Indemnification
Agreement (TOPIA) was established to indemnify the supplementary fund 50% of the compensation
amount it pays in event of an oil pollution accident.
Considering the costs of some of the biggest oil spills in history, the SF holds adequate funds to deal
with oil spills of high magnitudes; till date no incident has required compensation from the SF . The
liability and compensation provisions of the CLC and FC satisfy the main components the PPP by
allowing the victims impartial access to remedies and allocating costs of pollution damage, emergency
response and clean up to the polluters .
The abovementioned factors show that the Conventions have come a far way in achieving a perfect
balance in burden sharing among the shipping and oil industries, adapting the polluter pays theory to
the extent feasible. Disturbing this balance for the few incidents where admissible claims exceeded the
limits under the 1992 CLC and FC would mean disturbing a widely accepted, well tested and
successful system operating on an international level .
An interesting view is raised by Chao Wu in his paper on threats to the International Convention
System; he questions the fairness in expecting the transporter and cargo owners to bear all the costs

Public Defender Thesis
For this upcoming research project, the working title would be Public Support for Public Defenders:
How Income Affects Perception . Specifically, I want to look at how public approval of public
defender s impacts differs based on income and how that affects whether they think reforms are
necessary. Therefore, my research question would be: does income affect the public s perception of the
effectiveness and approval of public defenders? So far two studies have been done that will aid in my
research question. The first was a study is entitled Americans Views on Public Defenders and The
Right to Counsel , a National Public Opinion Survey conducted for The Right to Counsel National
Campaign in March 2017 and provides data on the perceptions of need and the ... Show more content

This study looks at those who use the services of public defenders and whether they think they are
effective or approval of them. This is a significant issue for both public policy and California because
the public s approval and belief in the effectiveness of a certain services affects how resources are
allocated and whether reforms are implemented. As a current intern at the Sacramento County Public
Defender s Office it is clear that resources are limited compared to those available for say the DA s
office, so if the public believes that it is effective regardless of these limitations then they are less
willing to increase resources. On the other side, those from a lower income that are clients of the
public defender s office can see first hand the limitations of these services and may believe reforms
are necessary to increase its effectiveness. While the first study was focused nationally and the second
was focused in Cincinnati, I want to see if California shows similar

  • 2. The New Communistic Approach The new communistic approach 1917 1918, the Russian Revolution emerged centering around two essential events: the February Revolution, in which the Czar was overthrown, and the October Revolution, in which the Bolsheviks took over power resulting in the creation of the world s first communist country led by Vladimir Lenin. This resulted in the brutal, cruel and bloody Civil War. What was left was an extreme regime that was to rule Russia until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, which also meant the end of communism. Despite the creation of an extreme regime, including suppression, forced labor camps, execution of people with different ideologies, bribes etc., the communists had a great goal at first. The Communist Party wanted to achieve social and financial equality in a classless and stateless society in which the fulfillment of human needs including satisfying work and an equal share of benefit derived from labor was essential. Although communism didn t succeed in Russia, it is, in theory, the solution for a utopian world, existing of equal human rights, freedom, shelter, food etc. But why did communism fail? There are many theories about that, it was, for example, due to the leaders abusing their power turning the communistic government into a tyrannical dictatorship. Or, another theory is, that it is due to the people s greed, always wanting more than others resulting in conflicts between one another, like the Civil War. Our main question is: How can we govern a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Informative Essay Hook Pinkston, Anna Dr. Jeff Newberry ENGL 1101H August 26, 2017 As my ninth grade English teacher, Mrs. Newton would say, without a good hook to start your essay, no one will ever read it. As I was taught, a hook is a crucial part in your essay because it will help grab the audience s attention so that they will continue to be invested throughout the paper. For example, the hook could be a question or a quote about the overall topic of your essay. In my junior year, we had to do a controversial essay and I used a quote from a famous tattoo artist as my hook because I did my essay over tattoos and piercings. After the hook, the introduction begins to take form and show the audience what your essay is about. The introduction is the first thing in your essay that will tell the audience what the essay is about. The introduction paragraph should be as interesting as the initial hook and keep the audience invested in the paper. It will establish the basis of the essay and should contain the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the point in your essay where you will state the topics that the essay will contain. In high school, we were taught that the thesis should contain the three points that you will elaborate upon in your three body paragraphs: the weakest point, the middle point, and the strongest point. The first body paragraph should be the weakest or simplest way to get the overall point of the essay across to the readers. This will be the foundation of all three points, ... There are various occurrences where individuals have the desire to terminate their lives at their request, whereas a selection of individuals become extremely ill and the decision stands to be made by the next of kin, medical team, or the court depending on certain circumstances. • 10. Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation Amir Ayoub Fordham University Abstract This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two, three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do things that have a positive outcome more. Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. Operant conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through reinforcements and punishments for behavior and encourages associating desirable or undesirable outcomes with certain behaviors. Among those includes Mark Antony s famous speech in William Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. This unforgettable speech takes place at Caesar s funeral where Antony turns a bewildered, aghast crowd of mourners into enraged rioters using Caesar s will, Caesars body, and the word honorable. Halfway through Antony s speech, he showed the crowd Caesar s will and said, ...I must not read it; / It is not meet you know how Caesar loved you. (3.2.139 140). (Hull J C, 1997)Generally, a foreign exchange settlement contract will be signed by banks and their customers, which stipulates the type of foreign currency to be used, the sum, the exchange rates and duration. On the due date when income or expenditure of foreign exchange occurs, currency exchange settlement will be operated in accordance with the contract. In order to improve efficiency, it s necessary to adjust the hedging when using forward contracts. (Briys E, Solnik B. 1992)When the interest rate is certain, there is no price difference between futures contracts and forward contracts. Perfect hedge can be achieved, no matter what type of hedging tools is used. • 21. Blair Witch Project Analysis The Blair Witch Project is a highly successful and widely innovative independent film that was released on July 30th, 1999. The film followed three student filmmakers who aimed to create a documentary about a local legend called the Blair Witch. While the film alluded to various hallmarks of the horror film genre, it was groundbreaking in its marketing strategy, the use of found footage, and cinematography. In many ways, The Blair Witch Project adheres to various tropes and traditions of the horror movie genre. The film includes some characteristics of the Italian Giallo genre. In both genres, the killer is unknown and unseen to the audience. The giallo underscores the theme of sight and the ability to see clearly (Bondanella 381). In ... In The Blair Witch Project, the protagonists are reported missing but we never see what actually happened to them. The town begins exhaustive searches to find the students. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the film to haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project plays on insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to run into abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists do not. The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or commenting at the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre. The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls the pleasure of not seeing . She mentions that, The blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the terrifying spectacle (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see. Corso actually worked on the project in The Pentagon. Many people believe this story is too outlandish to believe. This is the strategy that The Foreign Technology Desk decided to go for. Between the time of the Roswell crash and the beginning of The Foreign Technology Desk, the Air Force had branched off from the Army, taking artifacts with it. This added another layer to difficulty to keeping the story secret. At first, the military blew off the Roswell crash as a weather balloon and threatened majority of the eye witnesses. This had kept them quiet for a while but people eventually talk. The military decided to stop covering it up and would leak little bits of information to people who would make something out of it. Corso states, This was called camouflage with limited exposure (85). This was in order to make the talking witnesses to look like nut jobs. The disadvantage of two stroke engines is their dependency on a blower to force air into the chamber and their inefficiency. A four stroke engine does not have an expansion stroke every 360 degrees but it is more efficient because it has more time to completely burn the fuel injected into the cylinder. There are mechanical and fundamental differences between the two stroke and four stroke engines but the physics remain the same. At first glance it may look like the explosion in the chamber does the work but upon further inspection you can see the physics involved. There are two questions I would like to address. The first question is what is the physics behind the compressed air raising the temperature upwards of 900 degrees. The second question is what is the physics behind the rapid expansion of the ignited air fuel mixture. The physics behind the temperature increase of compressed air begins with a fresh charge of air. The air fills the combustion chamber when the cylinder is at bottom dead center. As the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jefferies claims that Lisa is just not the right girl for [him] because she is too committed to high society and materialistic for him. Jefferies barely acknowledges her and focuses most of his attention on watching the neighbors apartments specifically the Thorwalds. She is unable to divert his attention from the window even with the most forward flirtations. It is not until she puts herself on the other side and into the movie that he becomes interested in her. Lisa finally becomes the subject of his gaze and only then does Jeffries show any sexual attraction towards her. Near the end of the movie when Lisa breaks into Thorwald s apartment, Jeffries does not see the same Lisa he saw when she stood by him and sat in his lap. This dangerous act of bravery and courage proves to Jefferies that she is capable of more than he previously thought. By exposing her willingness to take risks he sees that there is more to her than high society and fashion. • 41. Essay on Iago Character Analysis William Shakespeare s Othello is a play that mostly revolves around jealousy, trust and revenge. Throughout most of Shakespeare s plays, evil characters are not uncommon, but in my own opinion, Iago has to be one of – if not the most interesting. Even though Iago might be described by some as being just pure evil or even intolerable , the truth still remains that people will read deeper into the play just to see what Iago will do next. Through his words and actions, which are carefully thought out, Iago is able to manipulate others for his personal benefit. Not only that, but he also manipulates people to get him closer to his goals. He is no doubt the driving force of the play, pushing Othello and everyone else towards the tragic ... Cassio falls for the trick, fights Roderigo, and loses his position. This leaves Iago with what he wanted all along which is to be Lieutenant. With all of Iago s actions throughout the play, it is clear to see not only is he evil, but he has no conscience. As the play unfolds, Iago constantly lies and deceives people. From his wife, to his friends, it doesn t matter. In just about every scene of the play, one can point out his deception or scheme. In one scene, Iago actually tricks Othello into believing that Desdemona, his own wife, is having an affair with Cassio. Then he ironically warns Othello about jealousy: O, beware my lord of jealousy; It is the green eye d monster which doth mock The meat it feeds on (3.3, 165 167) and manages to convince Othello without any concrete proof, which is amazing. After this, Othello is so filled with rage and caught up in Iago s lies that he refuses to believe Desdemona when she denies everything. Othello knows that he can t let her live knowing that he has been ridiculed: But alas, to make me the fixed figure for the time of scorn. To point his slow unmoving finger at! (4.2, 53 55) Since he can t live in such a role, he murders Desdemona. At this point, much credit has to be given to Iago even if people don t like him. We had moved just the year before, and sixteen is still young enough that the bunch makes a difference. I had a bunch, all right, but they weren t sure of me yet. I didn t know why. Just like all other daredevil boys in that country, I guess, Freddy Gray and J.D. and I had talked idly about stealing that giant watermelon. But we all knew that it was just talk. Not only were we afraid of Mr. Wills and his rages but we knew that Mr. Wills sat in the hayloft window of his barn every night with his shotgun, guarding the melon. It was his seed melon. He meant to plant next year s crop out of that great one and maybe raise a whole field of them. Mr. Wills was in a frenzy of fear that somebody would steal it. Why, he would rather you stole Willadean than his melon. At least, he didn t guard Willadean with his shotgun. Every night I could sit on our front porch and see Mr. Wills sitting up there in the window of his hayloft, looking fiercely out over his melon patch. I d sit there by the hour and watch him, the shotgun cradled in his arm, and feel the tremors of fear and excitement chasing up and down my spine. Look at him, my father would say. Scared to death somebody will steal his seed melon. Wouldn t anybody steal a man s seed melon. He ought to be in the house taking care of that wife of his, my mother would say tartly. • 43. Summary Of Hester Prynne By Nathaniel Hawthorne Chapter 2 3: Hester Prynne is a young woman who was put in jail for the crime of adultery. In the first introduction Hester is perceived as someone who does not care what other people think of her and will stare down the barrel of a gun. The author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, compares Hester to her babe by showing how they are both shunned by the people viewing them. Hawthorne contrats them when Hester stands upon the scaffold with her head held high, while her babe cries out. As Hester walks out of her prison and stands upon the scaffold for viewing and public shame, the holier than though women gossip about Hester s sin and shames her for her sins. The men view Hester the same way, a sinner that should be punished and shamed. Chapter 4 5: Hester Prynne s husband reveals himself as a doctor and offers to help her and her babe. Her husband says that he will not hurt her adulterous partner and will spare her as well and not act as if his wife has just cheated on him. Although he has given Hester his word, Hester is still terrified by his words. Thy acts are like mercy, said Hester, bewildered and appalled. But thy words interpret thee as a terror! (44). Hester s husband who named himself Roger Chillingworth, he states that he tricked Hester into a marriage where she did not love her husband and therefore he had wronged her first. • 44. Impact Of Trade Agreements On An International Scale I. Introduction Trade agreements have been around for the past several centuries, and naturally, they have evolved. Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. Evolving still, trade agreements have now grown into massive collectives between nations that regulate more than just trade. Moreover, these agreements have become political tools to cement solidarity between nations, and are used to harmonize economic regulation on an international scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More than just economic integration, however, the TPP presented an opportunity for the United States to alter the economic power dynamics in the Asia Pacific. As the lead on TPP, the United States would have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted. Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and counteracting China s economic clout in the region. Newly elected President Donald Trump, however, has already come out and stated his opposition to the TPP; indeed, going so far as to include US withdrawal from the TPP as part of his agenda for his first day in office. The TPP has faced public scrutiny during this election year particularly because of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which has been decried by the public for some time. Loss of American jobs has largely fueled the outrage at NAFTA, but other issues exist as well. For example, TPP provisions on investor rights, like in NAFTA the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) process would allow international arbitral bodies to hear challenges to a state s legal rules. • 45. What Is The Implementation Of PPP In The Compensation System 3.1.1 Implementation Mechanisms Implementation of PPP in the liability and compensation regime is seen through adequate reference to mechanisms such as compulsory insurance and compensation funds whereby a ship owner is required to constitute a fund with the Court for the total limit of his liability to avail the benefit of limitation , and maintain compulsory insurance certified by the appropriate State authority for any ship carrying more than 2,000 tons of oil . 3.1.2 Loss of Right to Limit Liability There is very narrow scope for a ship owner to be exonerated from strict liability. It requires proof that damage resulted from war or was wholly caused by an intentional act or omission of a third party or by negligence of an authority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Small Tanker Oil Pollution Indemnification Fund (STOPIA) was established to raise maximum amount of compensation payable for small ships and the Tanker Oil Pollution Indemnification Agreement (TOPIA) was established to indemnify the supplementary fund 50% of the compensation amount it pays in event of an oil pollution accident. Considering the costs of some of the biggest oil spills in history, the SF holds adequate funds to deal with oil spills of high magnitudes; till date no incident has required compensation from the SF . The liability and compensation provisions of the CLC and FC satisfy the main components the PPP by allowing the victims impartial access to remedies and allocating costs of pollution damage, emergency response and clean up to the polluters . The abovementioned factors show that the Conventions have come a far way in achieving a perfect balance in burden sharing among the shipping and oil industries, adapting the polluter pays theory to the extent feasible. Disturbing this balance for the few incidents where admissible claims exceeded the limits under the 1992 CLC and FC would mean disturbing a widely accepted, well tested and successful system operating on an international level . Specifically, I want to look at how public approval of public defender s impacts differs based on income and how that affects whether they think reforms are necessary. So far two studies have been done that will aid in my research question. This is a significant issue for both public policy and California because the public s approval and belief in the effectiveness of a certain services affects how resources are allocated and whether reforms are implemented. As a current intern at the Sacramento County Public Defender s Office it is clear that resources are limited compared to those available for say the DA s office, so if the public believes that it is effective regardless of these limitations then they are less willing to increase resources. On the other side, those from a lower income that are clients of the public defender s office can see first hand the limitations of these services and may believe reforms are necessary to increase its effectiveness.
