Value Analysis Of Boeing
Boeing 787 Dreamliner Boeing is a global company that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes. It
is amongst the largest aerospace companies that manufacturers commercial jetliners and is second
largest defense contractor. Boeing is also a leader manufacturer in space and security systems. Boeing
began in Seattle, WA in 1910 and now their headquarters are in Chicago, IL and is the largest exporter
in the United States. The Boeing Company adopted the radical change approach because they were
trying to accelerate development time and reduce overall costs. Boeing actively embraced outsourcing
to their supply chain that involved over 40 suppliers in about 100 different locations around the world.
According to Forbes Magazine, The approach was intended to reduce the 787 s development time
from six to four years and development cost from $10 to $6 billion.
In the 1990 s the company Airbus started stealing market share from Boeing. Boeing responded by
innovating their products using value analysis. According to Professor Todd s chapter four slide 12,
value analysis is the examination of the function of parts and materials to reduce the cost and/or
improve the performance of a product. Boeing has traditionally used aluminum for their airplanes, but
changed their 787 to carbon fiber, aluminum, and titanium. This allowed for increased humidity and
maintained pressure within the cabin; which also would reduce maintenance and replacement costs
(Denning, 2013). This makes the

Hi Food
The heart and soul of all cultures is the food and Hawaiian food is a fusion of many cultures. The
islands of Hawaii have been open to different cultures for hundreds of years. What do you see when
you think of Hawaiian food? If you re like me, (born and raised on the ( mainland ) I think of fresh
fruits (mostly pineapple), seafood (Hawaii is, after all, in the middle of the Pacific ocean), and exotic
luau dishes like steamed taro leaves and roast pig. In reality, Hawaii s cuisine is both much more and
much less than what the stereotypical image beholds. The bananas and pineapples are abound, in
addition to avocados (which grow in most backyards), passion fruit, guavas, and a host of other exotic
fruits that are beyond many an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawaiian food isn t all about the salty and the meaty. Hawaii has a sweet side, introducing shave ice,
shave ice is the straight forward sunny day treat. Shave ice is shaved ice topped with flavored syrup.
Many flavor variety for the shave ice but there is only one shop on the entire island that makes the one
of a kind shave ice and that is Matsumoto s. Matsumoto s is a shop up in North Shore that serves the
bomb shave ice. You could put condensed milk icing on top snow capped , and or ice cream on the
bottom I think Shave Ice makes the perfect dessert.
The ancient Hawaiians were fit. The traditional Hawaiian diet may have been one of the best in the
world . It was a simple, high starch, high fiber, low saturated fat, low sodium and low cholesterol diet.
It had 12 percent protein, 18 percent fat and 70 percent carbohydrates. By comparison, the typical
American diet today has 15 percent protein, 40 percent fat and 45 percent carbohydrates. (Source:
Noted Hawaiian Scholar, Dr. George Kanahele, Pookela Hawaiian Culture Course.)
Now most modern Hawaiians don t follow a healthy lifestyle and, as a consequence, they don t have a
long life span. Among Hawaii s racial groups, Hawaiians have the highest rates of heart disease,
cancer, stroke, diabetes, accidents and suicides. Efforts are underway to reverse this trend. Some
ancient methods seem to cure a couple of these

Analysis Of Queer
In the past decades, the word queer traversed many definitions, from a pejorative for gay to a self
affirming umbrella term. While the word queer is primarily associated with non normative tendencies
(Love 172), the word uncanny...applies to everything that was intended to remain secret, hidden away,
and has come into the open (Freud 132). Upon closer inspection of the words, queer and uncanny, and
Andrew Davenport s popular children s television show Teletubbies, we see that the Teletubbies are
the exemplary, digital manifestations of queer, uncanny doppelgängers (Cole).
It is 2000. Sunday morning. I am 3. I wake up, pop out of bed, and sprint down the steps. Mom is in
the kitchen cooking a hot, delicious breakfast. I glide past her and turn on the TV. Patiently waiting, I
clutch my favorite toy: my Po doll. As I squeeze her, her stomach screen lights up. The TV lights up
too. I lift my head and see the familiar landscape of Teletubbyland, its rolling hills and warm feelings.
Mom walks over to me and sets down a plate of hot sausages, eggs, and bacon. But I cannot see her. I
only see bright, warm colors. I only see Po, emerging from the Superdome. I only see Po s welcoming
eyes.
To say the least Teletubbies is an incredibly entertaining television show. In each thirty minute
episode, four baby faced, asexual aliens, Po, Laa Laa, Dipsy, and Tinky Winky, wake up to the smiling
face of a baby on the sun, come out from their Tubbytronic Superdome, and eat pink custard.

Positive Liberty
Should the Government Promote Positive Liberty?
The idea of liberty, or freedom, varies between different theorists. One theorist, Isaiah Berlin, focused
on the difference between two different ways of thinking about political liberty (Cherniss amp; Hardy,
2010). Berlin called these two different concepts negative and positive liberty. According to Berlin,
negative freedom can be defined as freedom from , that is, freedom from constraint or interference of
others. In contrast, positive freedom can be defined in two ways: freedom to , that is the ability to
pursue and achieve willed goals; and also as autonomy or self rule, as opposed to the dependence on
others (Cherniss amp; Hardy, 2010). Keeping the idea of positive liberty at ... Show more content on

And are we to presume that if the law doesn t explicitly say we can do something, we are not allowed
to do it? (Keong, 2007).
Another concern expressed by Keong (2007) is the idea that positive liberty means we expect the state
to hand us certain things on a silver platter. Positive liberty has been used as a platform to push
through ideas such as the principle that everyone is entitled to a minimum income or standard of
living, though not everyone is comfortable with the moral hazard this might evoke (Keong, 2007).
Key questions asked with this in mind include; if you are guaranteed something, will you be willing to
contribute back to society for it? Or, will you sit around and collect your entitlements? (Keong, 2007;
Haworth, 1991).
After going through what positive liberty is, examples of positive liberty and the debates surrounding
positive liberty, the main question running through my head is whether the government should
promote positive liberty? While I do acknowledge what Keong says about people expecting the state
to hand entitlements over, I think that the government should promote positive liberty to maintain
order within society. An image that runs through my head at the thought of the government not
promoting positive liberty is one of anarchy. People can do whatever they like with no consequence
which to me, breeds chaos all around. At least with positive liberty, people can do what

To What Extent Was the Period of Conservative Rule 1951-64...
This essay will examine the impact of the Conservative party during their period in office between
1951 and 1964. The assessments by historians of these thirteen years vary widely as the Conservative
rule left behind a mixed feeling about its achievements. We will therefore be discussing to what extent
their period in office can be described as thirteen years wasted , based on their performances in the
political, economic and social sectors. When the Conservative Party came to power in 1951, they won
the election by a slim majority of 26 seats, leaving them with very little power to make important
changes. However, their number of seats increased throughout their thirteen years in office, leaving
them with a majority of 107 in the 1959 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Dig for Victory campaign reminded people of the importance of agriculture.
The Conservatives also focused on several aspects of the social sector by putting into place important
extensions to the Welfare State. These include the increase of benefits and the implementation of the
Mental Health Act which spread awareness of mental illness and increased its social acceptance,
which was a huge step towards tolerance which was ahead of its time. However the plan to build 90
new hospitals across Britain never came into action as the Labour government had retaken office in
1964. Despite this, the improvements in healthcare can be seen as a big success for the Conservatives,
although, yet again it can be said that they could have done much more in their thirteen years in this
sector.
Progress was also made in the area of education as 6000 new schools and 11 new universities were
constructed and many more were expanded. However their was a big debate about the merits of
comprehensive and grammar schools. The Conservatives, who supported grammar schools for most of
their time in office finally gave into the inevitable fact that comprehensive education did offer certain
advantages that grammar schools did not. The time that the Conservatives spent preventing county
councils from introducing comprehensive systems was therefore counter productive and a waste of
time.

Coconut Oil Brain
Coconut Oil For Brain
Coconut oil has a wide array of health benefits, including being extremely good for your brain in a
variety of ways. Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides and MTI s have been shown to boost
cognitive function in seniors with everything from minor memory disorders to more serious matters
such as Alzheimer s.
Medium chain triglycerides are not like other types of oil you eat because they are not stored in your
tissues, rather they are moved immediately to your liver where they are oxidized and turned into
ketone bodies so your body can use it for energy and fuel for your brain s mitochondria, instead of
your body storing it as fat.

The Nutritional Code Of Food Label
Food Label
There are many things that are confusing and overwhelming when it comes to making nutritious
choices. One product will have a high content of something good and another will have low content in
something bad. When it is time to consider what we put in our bodies we have ample opportunity to
weight the pros and cons of various products. According to the Nielsen Global Survey in 2011 sixty
percent of the population doesn t not understand the mandatory nutritional code in order to properly
identify the ingredients they are considering ingesting. Alarmingly, this statistic is that the nutrition
label and the ingredients list are the only true allies a consumer has when determining what we should
be eating. Only they tell the full story of what the food we are consuming is comprised of. For this
assignment I was asked to first select two pairs of similar food products from the supermarket and
then secondly compare them, while critically evaluating both their food labels and ingredients. I chose
to compare coconut milk against 2% dairy milk and rolled oats versus steel cut oats. I am going to
address the following comparisons in the body of my essay: the nutrition facts table, serving sizes,
price, ingredients, product claims, percentage of daily value (%DV), whether they are part of a healthy
eating plan, and lastly whether their labeling is clear and concise. On the war against obesity and
disease caused by diet, food labels and ingredient lists are the consumers

The Disciplinary Area Of Arts Deals With A Wide Variety Of...
The disciplinary area of Arts deals with a wide variety of topics. Some typical examples include
paintings, sculptures, music, and literature. This paper most directly deals with the literature aspect as
it compares the themes featured in the two novels that were introduced in the HC 100 class. While
both Robert Kurson s Pirate Hunters and A.G. Riddle s The Atlantis Gene contain similar themes such
as choices, fear, persistence, and exploration, they differ due to the fact that Pirate Hunters focuses
mainly on personal discovery, whereas The Atlantis Gene emphasizes on more generalized and
important themes like power, secrets, and making sacrifices to help others.
The two novels are similar in the aspect that they both include themes of fear, persistence, exploration,
dedication, and making choices. In Pirate Hunters, Mattera searched as many files as he could in the
General Archive of the Indies in Seville, Spain, but he still could not find any mention of Bannister
and his ship, The Golden Fleece. At this point, Mattera said that now it seemed he was running out of
light (Kurson 110). This is one example that expresses the themes of dedication, choice, and
exploration in Pirate Hunters. Mattera felt inclined to give up; he was stumped, and he had to make a
choice. Mattera s dedication to the cause of exploration is what influenced his decision to remain on
his quest. His perseverance shines through this decision and shows the readers how truly dedicated he
is to

Causes Of The American Revolution The Antagonizing British
American Revolution: The Antagonizing British The American Revolution had initiated due to chain
reaction events caused by the British that infuriated the colonists. Many of the colonist felt that the
British were violating their constitutional rights, so the colonist eventually fought back. The three
major events that led up to the American Revolution where the French and Indian War, Intolerable
Acts, and the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The British fueled the American Revolution by
limiting colonist s expansion, violating their rights, invading U.S. soil. All three of these events
against the colonists came together like a puzzle to start the American Revolution War. The French
and Indian War started in 1754 and it was a war between the French with United States help against
the Indians with Britain s help. The war was fought in North America, eventually the British won the
war and French was kicked out of the North America territory. The British were able to gain a
substantial amount of land from the colonists although they suffered some repercussions. The war had
been enormously expensive, and the British government s attempts to impose taxes on colonists to
help cover these expenses resulted in increasing colonial resentment of British attempts to expand
imperial authority in the colonies. British attempts to limit western expansion by colonists and
inadvertent provocation of a major Indian war further angered the British subjects living in the

Carrie Chapman Catt Analysis
If Carrie Chapman Catt were alive today, she would be fighting for the Women s March going on all
around the United States. The Women s March harnesses the political power of women to transform
our society. After all, women s rights are human rights. Carrie Chapman Catt would expose problems
such as reproductive rights, LGBTQIA rights, workers rights, immigrant rights, environmental justice,
as well as ending violence against women. Reproductive rights are best defined as having the ability to
decide whether and when to have children (statusofwomendata.org). Carrie Chapman Catt would
argue that it is not in fact the government s business as to whether a mother can have an abortion or
not, because it is the mother s body at the end of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An umbrella term that is often used to refer to the community as a whole (LGBTQIA.ucdavis.edu).
This is one of the many values that Carrie Chapman Catt holds, and she would exultant that society is
starting to become more accepting of the LGBTQIA community. Human rights are imperative, and I
think that Carrie Chapman Catt would agree with me on that. Workers rights deem to help ensure
equal opportunities for all women and men to obtain decent and productive work, in conditions of
freedom, equity, security, and dignity (dol.gov). Once again, this epitomizes equal rights for everyone,
which is just what Carrie Chapman Catt would say. Environmental justice is the fair treatment and
meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect
to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies
(epa.gov). An equal playing field is just what society needs, and this goes hand in hand with one of
Carrie Chapman Catt s greatest achievements: the nineteenth amendment. The nineteenth amendment
granted women the right to vote (history.com), which is just one aspect of environmental

Customer Behavior Of The B2b Space And The B2c Space
General Electric is a great example of a company that operates within both the business to consumer
space and the business to business space. As far as consumer products are concerned, GE provides a
number of products and services including, electronics, appliances, lighting, personal healthcare, and
housewares. In the B2B space specifically, GE has a number of divisions, including aviation, energy
consulting and management, healthcare, oil and gas, mining, power, and transportation. There are
many differences between the customer behavior of the B2B space and the B2C space. For one thing,
the wants and the needs of these two customers are entirely different. Individual consumers only need
to worry about their own needs, whereas B2B customers need to look at the needs of the company as a
whole. It behooves B2B companies to seek out influencers and powerful executives, while B2C
companies may focus on any one consumer seeking a product or service. In this corporate space,
customers needs are based less off personal reflection and more on the company s overall business
strategy. Businesses customers are more likely to research product attitudes, including quality,
productivity, and overall value. Additionally, when it comes to choosing or identifying the products
that they need, businesses generally have a process that they follow when they go about making
purchasing decisions that is more strict than your everyday consumer. There are, in most cases,
specifications set

Differences Between Ordinary And Dynamic Capabilities
3.1.3 Firm Capabilities
A firm possesses two different kinds of capabilities, the so called ordinary capabilities and the
dynamic capabilities. They are quite distinct in theory and in practice:
The ordinary capabilities of a firm refer to its ability to use and coordinate tangible and intangible
resources with the aim to reach a desired goal (Teece, 2014).
The dynamic capabilities of a firm refer to its ability to build upon existing capabilities and at the
same time to develop new capabilities (Teece, 2014).
The basic distinctions are outlined in Table 3 below from a practical point of view: Ordinary
Capabilities Dynamic Capabilities
Purpose Technical efficiency Congruence with opportunities
Mode of attainability Buy or build Build
Tripartite schema Operate, administrate, govern Sense, seize, transform
Key routines Best practices Signature processes

while building up new ones. The core competencies are defined as a combination of tangible and

A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be
identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color
change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in
this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the
water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not
change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from
the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its
usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change
because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did
not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven
dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the
vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same.
Each of these experiments showed no change in a substance so as it changed to another substance.
Chemical changes occurred in five out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. Although the

Marching Band Monologue
It all started at the end of last summer. I m the Drum Major of my school s band, and for that reason, I
was the most nervous I had ever been in my life. At any one point, there were over 150 people
watching my every move, and it was nerve racking. Last summer, they watched me through the
hardest time of my entire life.
I was given the position in April, but until August, it was essentially just a title. Four months of
virtually nothing staring at a musical score, just before I am expected to dive headfirst into leading a
marching band. It was completely absurd, yet somehow, I managed. It was hard work, and for that
first month, I was faced with failure more often than success, but my confidence grew, and I began to
realize the true potential of the season ahead of me.
As things got better at school, things got worse at home. My father was in bad health, and it wasn t

character in the book Eleanor and Park , is a great example of what some teens are going through
today. Eleanor is forced to sit next to Park, a kid that reads comics and listens to punk, on the first day

weight and is made fun of at school for her looks. And with Eleanor struggling with her home life and
her step dad Richie, Park becomes a safe spot for Eleanor. Richie is very protective of what goes on in

One piece of evidence that supports this is when Eleanor and Park first meet. Eleanor is struggling to
find a seat on the bus. As the bus driver is yelling at her to sit down, everybody on the bus is staring at

unwillingly lets her sit down next to him. Eleanor couldn t tell if the Asian kid who finally let her sit
down was one of them, or whether he was just really stupid (Rowell11). Eleanor is confused as to why
Park let her sit down. She wonders if he is one of the bullies based on how he yelled and sweared at
her to sit down. Or, if he is just really dumb. This shows that Eleanor grows as a result of conflicts
with Park because she develops a feeling for Park. It may not be a good feeling or good first
impression, but he is the only one that let her sit down. A second piece of evidence that supports this is
when Park gives Eleanor a comic for the first time. They were both sitting on the bus

Analysis Of Rocket Boys By Homer Hadley Hickam Jr.
In the book Rocket Boys created by Homer Hadley Hickam Jr. John Hickam is a man that works in

building rockets. John is said to be also insufficient to be the Coalwood mine leader. John also

Hitler s Willing Executioners by Daniel Goldhagen
Not many historical works have achieved more success and have generated more heated debate than
Daniel Goldhagen s book Hitler s Willing Executioners. Goldhagen s thesis relies on the idea that
since medieval times, a specific kind of eliminationist anti Semitism had developed in Germany.
According to Goldhagen, the German population was already open to the idea of eliminating the Jews.
He also claims that when Hitler came to Power in 1933, rather than slowly convincing the Germans to
commit mass murder, he merely gave them the opportunity to do what they have wanted to do for
years. Goldhagen also inflated the number of people involved, suggesting that hundreds of thousands
were participating in the killing and that millions more would have willingly joined in, given the
opportunity. Despite the rejection of the book by many German and non German historians, the
German version of the book, published in August 1996, sold very well. Eighty thousand copies of the
German edition sold in the first month of the book s release. By the time of Goldhagen s tour in
September, three thousand copies were being sold every single day. Facts like these show how
important communication is with the public. Hitler s Willing Executioners was successful in Germany
because of the accessibility of the book to the German population, the social context in which the
book was produced, and the powerful marketing campaign that preceded the book itself.

I Am A Film Producer Who Has Recently Acquired The Rights
I am a film producer who has recently acquired the rights to She Unames Them by Ursula K. LeGuin.
She Unames Them features the Genesis character Eve as the main character. The short story is divided
into two sections. The first section is written in third person and is a detailed narrative of a multitude
of animals essentially giving up their names upon the command of Eve. It describes the response of
each animal in this matter. For instance, the story describes the elder female yaks holding a council
meeting to discuss whether they found it fit to rid themselves of their name. They also described the
issue with household pets that wished to keep the name their master gave them. The text states, But as

This us significant because in Genesis 3:20 it says, And Adam called his wife s name Eve; because she
was the mother of all living. Therefore, by giving up her title of mother of all living, Eve removes her
station as above the animals and makes herself one with them. Another reason this is significant is
because in Genesis 2:23 it is written, And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my
flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore, she is disconnecting
herself from Adam. She is no longer being called woman, which is taken out of man. She is unique
from all creation yet she is also connected with all of creation. Accordingly, the story implies the only
way to find true spirituality is by making yourself one with nature. This is implied through the
narrative of Adam searching for the key to the garden of Eden. This is ironic because he is essentially
looking for a material object to enter a spiritual place. However, by abandoning her human nature and
finding oneness with nature, Eve has managed to find Eden in the world outside of the garden. Then
when Adam asks what time dinner is, which is important because cooking dinner is often considered a
womanly task. Eve does not know how to answer this questions. This shows she has forsaken what
Adam believes her role job is as a woman in favor of joining the animals. This moral is important
because it supports humanism and nature. It also

Life is simultaneously the hardest thing we will ever do and also the easiest thing we will ever do.
From the basic biological processes to the complex mental processes, all that we as humans do
contributes to our lives. In the story The Wong One Died (Yalom, 2012), we learned about Penny, a
woman who is experiencing great difficulty simply living her life. Yalom moves quickly to the heart
of the matter, primarily by building a therapeutic relationship, developing an accurate empathic
understanding, and using that understanding to help Penny. The therapeutic relationship is
fundamental to the therapeutic process, and Yalom provides an excellent example of what is required
of the helper in this story.

He does not deny that Penny could use help, or that he could certainly offer it, but he recognizes his
limitations and his commitments that would interfere with his ability to properly help Penny. I think
that this shows an important level of self awareness on the part of Yalom, and gives what work he does
with Penny its best chance at succeeding. While acknowledging she understands Yalom s limitations,
Penny mentions she had seen two therapists previously. One of them had been at an alcohol clinic,
where the counselor had been an alcoholic themselves. Penny remarks that perhaps she need a
therapist who has lost a child that could be an expert in what Penny is experiencing. However, if it is
true that a client can only be helped by someone who has experienced the same things as themselves,
then that places a severe limitation on the field of psychology. Therapists could only help clients with
similar experiences to themselves, which would bring the focus of therapy to the therapist s subjective
experience, and not the client s. Each therapist would only have a narrow range of clients with which
they could be effective, which I do not believe to be the case. Yalom s work with Penny can serve of
an example of two people with different experiences forming a constructive therapeutic relationship.
On the surface, there would seem to be few similarities between a Stanford professor and an
overworked cab driver, but both Penny

The Los Angeles Facility For Disaster Recovery
The theme of this paper is expanding the analysis of the problem statement through identification of
the issues scope, scale, effect, and so forth, considering various company organization structures.
Additionally, the paper s content outlines the considerations of solving the problem to achieve
organization success. This overriding critical IT issue facing the Fox Television network and cable
affiliates is disaster recovery. The result of a natural disaster may halt network operations, which will
result in a revenue shortfall for outage duration. The expansion of the problem statement is centered
primarily in a few levels of the company s organization, including, individual, traditional and virtual
teams, department, and organization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many may consider that the exploration of the television distribution systems is not related to
traditional IT components. However, many elements of the traditional television distribution facility
are changing to using IT components, and the identification and analysis methods use a similar
analysis approach. This paper s content will concentrate on the issue of exploring how to move the
network to an alternative distribution location.
Problem Statement
The Fox network transmits over satellite communication infrastructure, and terrestrial fiber networks
36 linear television programing services from its Los Angeles facility. Additionally, the facility
provides about 100 Internet provided linear and non linear television services. These services only
provide programming to the United States audience. Other global transmission facilities provide the
programming services for the remaining global countries of the world. The Los Angeles facility uses a
highly integrated automation system to manage the expense of providing the services.
Computerized data, such as television material, is critical to the survival of the enterprise (Omar,
Alijani, Mason, 2011). The Fox organization relies on computerized systems to provide daily
operations (Omar, Alijani, Mason, 2011). Fox has a strategy for providing an infrastructure for
recovering operations if fire, hurricanes or other natural disasters

The Pros And Cons Of The Olympics
About 206 countries in the world participate in the Olympics. Can you imagine the Olympic games in
the same 5 countries every year? Have you ever thought about what the Olympics would be like if
they were always in the same place? Imagine not being able to guess where the next Olympics are
going to be held and traveling the world to get there. This is what will happen if the IOC stopped the
Olympics from traveling from country to country. The only solution to stop this; keep the Olympics
moving around country to country. The Olympics should not have a permanent home and should
continue to move around the world. Having them in a permanent home takes away more than you
think to people. To start, having the Olympics in a permanent home would deprive nations of a chance
to show national pride, economic gains and, most importantly, make history (Wendel Flora, 3).
However, some people believe that the Olympics cost too much money and countries are taking
money away from their people and making the country/people go poor. If those countries are ... Show

Pool Physical Therapy
Benefits of Pool Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialty that is performed by physical
therapists with a goal to improve a person s quality of life, mobility and function. In short, it is a way
of relieving pain and improving person s life. A lot of the time it is used by elderly people, people with
disabilities, or wounded/now disabled military personnel to, at least partially, restore their mobility
and return their life to normal as much as possible. The main goal of physical therapy is to relieve pain
and pressure on certain body parts and make life as easy as possible. Physical Therapy can help with:
Arthritis Pain
Accelerated Sports Rehab
Low Back Pain
Obesity
Fibromyalgia
Difficulty with Walking/Balance
Water or Aquatic physical therapy is the same way as regular physical therapy but it is performed in
water. Usually, people that I mentioned above that cannot do land physical therapy because of the pain

body weight all around and does not focus on a specific body part. From the experiences I read on the

Due to dehumanization and segregation, African Americans grow up with conflicting identities,
despite these struggles, Claude McKay and Langston Hughes encourage African Americans to resist

The Contributions Of Rosalind Franklin
Rosalind Franklin was a chemist who made a profound contribution as a result of her work with DNA.
Prior to this time, DNA was still a mystery in how impactful its purpose could be to society and the
growing age of science and technology. DNA became of importance to learn about the foundation in
relation to genetic and hereditary. Without the contribution of Franklin, todays understanding of the
DNA structure would not exist. Rosalind Franklin died before the Nobel Peace Prize was given for the
discovery of DNA. If she been alive, her receipt of the award would have been justifiable. Despite her
death, Rosalind Franklin demonstrated the knowledge and research essential for understanding
deoxyribonucleic acid and as a result should receive recognition in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize.
Rosalind Franklin s work on DNA was crucial in discovering the composition of the human body as a
whole. Her x ray photo revealed a double helix structure and she also discovered the A and B form of
DNA. She worked through the adversity of being a female in a predominately male dominated realm
and made remarkable findings that were eventually stolen. She adapted to a new lab with antiquated
technology. Before this discovery, the structure of DNA was thought to be simple. Scientist, Watson
and Crick, started with the wrong structure of DNA from a misinterpretation of notes from one of
Franklin s presentations. Unlike Watson and Crick, Rosalind Franklin could explain DNA and how it
worked.

The Stone Age Poem
The poetess realistically depicts the burdens of domestic life, sickness, her ageing and decaying of
body, and the anticipation of death in the final passage: I shall be the fat kneed hag in the long queue
The one from whose shopping bag the mean potato must Roll across the road. I shall be the patient On
the hospital bed, lying in drugged slum And dreaming of home. I shall be the grandmother Willing
away her belongings, those scraps and trinkets More lasting than her bones. Perhaps some womb in
that Darker world shall convulse, when I finally enter, A legitimate entrant, marked by discontent.
(Gino) The Stone Age, one of the finest poems in this anthology, strongly expresses the note of
rebellion against male domination. The wife resents the restraints imposed on her. The husband who is
described as an Old fat spider weaves webs of bewilderment around her and confines her within the
four walls of domesticity. She painfully complains. You turn me into a bird of stone, a granite Dove,
you build round me a shabby drawing room, And stroke my pitted face absent mindedly while you
read. She dislikes him as other men haunt her mind. Yet, as day dreams, strong men cast their
shadows, they sink Like white suns in the swell of my Dravidian blood. (The Stone Age)
In the absence of the husband she knocks at another s door. She asserts her individuality and
challenges domesticity. A note of rebellion and defiance is strongly expressed in this poem.

Darwin s Theory Of Evolution Of Species
In 1831, a newly graduated botanist named Charles Darwin was offered a position on a five year
voyage mapping the coasts of South America. Darwin eagerly accepted this offer, seeing it as an
opportunity to study specimens discovered on his journey. Upon returning to London, Darwin spent
the next ten years meticulously cataloging and researching his findings. It was these studies that gave
birth to a much deeper and more impactful discussion; the origins of species. Prior to Darwin s studies
the discussion of the origin of man was dominated by creationism, or the belief that we derive from
god, who created us all in his image. For the next thirty years, Darwin devoted himself to researching

It is more of an alternate perspective on the driving force behind biological evolution. Rather than
thinking that natural selection and random mutation lead evolution, theistic evolutionists hypothesize
that god only used evolution as a means to create man, a process often referred to as Guided Evolution
. Regardless of the interpretation, both forms assert that life stems from a common ancestor, created
by god and designed to be the beginning of the evolutionary process. A glaring objection to this idea is
that of the Book of Genesis, which displays the origin of man from a creationist point of view.
According to this piece of work, God created the physical world in entirety within six days, and finally
creating man from dust on the seventh day. Theistic evolutionists emphasize the metaphorical meaning
behind the Book of Genesis, while holding their position that the words should not be taken literally,
and the components of the story did not actually happen. There are several arguments that are made in
opposition to guided evolution, the most widely used objection is the Problem of Evil . The problem
of evil questions how one could reconcile the existence evil in the world with an omnibenevolent god.
In regards to guided evolution, if god really designed the entire process with an end goal of creating
man, why include so many wasteful and cruel components? If god was in fact all loving

God Of Small Things By Arundhati Roy
The God Of Small Things It s the smallest things in life which are most often overlooked and
sometimes completely ignored. In the novel The God of Small Things , Arundhati Roy presents
minute details about each character and how their lives are changed based on the societal norms in
India. Not only does Roy address the importance of small things , but she also gives the title The God
of Small Things to Velutha, an untouchable who is amongst the lowest social class of India according
to the caste system. Although Velutha s social status is practically worthless, him being given the title,
God of small things represents all the small things within the story that are overlooked. In a society
where big things such as information about social caste system, wealth, religion, political standings,
and marriage are important, Roy repeatedly emphasizes the small things having the most impact on
the characters within the story. Take Baby Kochamma, Comrade Pillai, and Velutha for example, the
society they live in are mostly concerned on social status and politics as opposed to important minute
details that shape the way they think. By making Velutha the god of small things, someone who s at
the bottom class structure in India, Roy shows that it is wrong to live accordingly to the ideas confined
by society.
An untouchable is a member of the lowest caste Hindu group, also known as a person outside of the
social class system. The Hindus believed untouchables are people

Background and Origin on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
SARS( Severe acute respiratory syndrome) Background/Intro/Origins SARS, also known as severe
acute respiratory syndrome was first found in Foshan, Guangdong in November of 2002. SARS is a
very new and rare disease. SARS was officially recognized as a threat by the World Health
Organization in March of 2003. This outbreak was the only one ever recorded of its type, up until the
recent Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. Scientists recognized SARS as a variation of the
coronavirus. In humans, the typical coronavirus is one of the many that cause the common cold. In
livestock, the virus is found to create serious and fatal diseases. Scientists believe that this variation of
the coronavirus originated from civets and the Horseshoe bat. Corona viruses are known for their
ability to mutate in order to spread among humans. Transmissions SARS is transmitted through the
droplets of vapour from coughing and sneezing. Contact with these droplets and the objects the
infected touched would also transmit SARS. Some scientists theorize that SARS is an airborne spread
virus. Epidemiological analysis also indicated that SARS was spreaded along the routes of
international air travel. Symptoms Fever Dry cough Shortness of breath Chills Body aches and pains

The Staggering Number of Styles and Genres of Lutheran...
CHAPTER 1
ERHARD BODENSCHATZ AND THE FLORILEGIUM POTENSE
Lutheran church music in its first two and a half centuries can be characterized by the incorporation of
a staggering variety of styles and musical genres. Plainchant, imitative polyphony, and chorale
hymnody existed alongside one another, and composers such as Heinrich Schütz (1585 1672) and
Johann Hermann Schein (1586 1630) were among the first to synthesize elements of Monteverdi s
seconda pratica with a fully German practice. Fruits of this multi style crosspollination, whether a
continuo based melodic harmonic framework, polychoral textures, use of the solo voice or obligato
instruments, all paved the way for the apex of this tradition, the concerted vocal works of J.S. Bach. ...

Far from being an element that should be purged from the new forms of worship being developed at
this time, Luther allowed for coexistence of both Latin and German. Latin was the language of
scholarly writing and diplomacy, and to remove it entirely he believed would be detrimental to the
education of youth at the time. In the preface to his Deutsche Messe und Ordnung (German Mass and
Order of Divine Service) of 1526, Luther wrote:
For by no means would I have the Latin language completely removed from the divine service, as my
chief concern is with the youth. If I could bring to pass that Greek and Hebrew were as familiar to us
as the Latin, and offered as much good music and song, we would hold mass, sing and read on
successive Sundays in all four languages: German, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew.
Luther also acknowledged that building up a repertory of high quality German texted music which
could replace the inheritance of Latin hymnody would take considerable time. Referring to the Roman
Liturgy in the Diet of Ausburg of 1530, Luther wrote:
The best feature of these services is the fact that the fine seasonal Latin hymns have remained,

Sage As A Master Of Economics
His real name was Travis Sage, but everyone called him Sage. Sage earned a Bachelor Degree from
Princeton, an MBA from the London School of Economics, and a law degree from Harvard. As a
graduate student in Europe, he wrote a brilliant thesis that updated the guiding principles of the
Austrian School of Economics with 21st century economic, social and political realities. The
subsequent white papers he authored became the economic foundation that guided The Movement s
macro and micro economic policy and regulation. With Sage in the background, Edward Birch and the
Virginia State Legislature had coupled libertarian ideology with economic legislation, policy and
regulation that was equal parts pragmatic and practical, while easy to explain to the bumper sticker
mentality of Virginia voters. Since Edward Birch became governor, Sage s economic philosophy
guided virtually all economic policy decisions in the state. In the hands of Sage, the Virginia economy
was running white hot.
Sage was also one of The Movement s founding fathers. He had been a close personal friend and

preparing him every step of the way for his ascension through the spectrum of American political
power. Sage s background was shrouded in secrecy his influence strictly behind the scenes, out of the

Managing Global Expansion
Managing Global Expansion: A Conceptual Framework.
Business Horizons

There are at least five reasons why the need to become global has ceased to be a discretionary option
and become a strategic imperative for virtually any medium sized to large corporation.
1. The Growth Imperative. Companies have no choice but to persist in a neverending quest for growth
if they wish to garner rewards from the capital markets and attract and retain top talent. For many
industries, developed country markets are quite mature. Thus, the growth imperative generally
requires companies to look to emerging markets for fresh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5. Globalization of Competitors. If your competitors start to globalize and you do not, they can use
their global stronghold to attack you in at least two ways. First, they can develop a first mover
advantage in capturing market growth, pursuing global scale efficiencies, profiting from knowledge
arbitrage, and providing a coordinated source of supply to global customers. Second, they can use
multi market presence to cross subsidize and wage a more intense attack in your own home markets. It
is dangerous to underestimate the rate at which competition can accelerate the pace of globalization.
Look at Fuji s inroads into the U.S. market, historically dominated by Kodak. The trend is happening
in other industries as well, such as in white goods, personal computers, and financial services.
In the emerging era, every industry must be considered a global industry. Today, globalization is no
longer an option but a strategic imperative for all but the smallest firms. The following framework and
set of conceptual ideas can guide firms in approaching the strategic challenge of casting their business
lines overseas and building global presence:
* How should a multiproduct firm choose the product line to launch it into the global market?
* What factors make some markets more strategic than others?
* What should companies consider in determining the

During the West Coast power crisis, homes went dark and street lights were out in California, causing

Newly released evidence shows that years before the crisis, Enron schemed to manipulate markets.
The new tapes routinely recorded by Enron to protect their own deals, and later obtained by
Snohomish County Public Utility District Number 1, confirmed what had been constantly reported for
four years. Enron secretly shut down power plants so they could cause, and then cash in on, the crisis.
Power plant operators were coached on how to lie to officials. Enron also pulled power out of states
like California, causing emergency conditions to worsen. The shut downs and pull outs triggered sky
high power prices and when states complained, the traders instructed the states to leave them alone,
and let them make a little bit of money. When the schemes began to unravel, employees blamed the
men running Enron. Mark to market accounting was introduced by former Enron President and CEO,
Jeff Skilling. This allowed Enron to book potential future profits on the very day the deal was signed,
even if some states had yet to deregulate their power markets. No matter how little cash actually came
in the door, to the outside world, Enron s profits could be whatever Enron said they were. Enron s
former CFO, Andrew Fastow, had his eye on John Olson, one

The Goal By Eli Goldratt
The novel The Goal by Eli Goldratt is an inspiring story of a manufacturing plant that seems to need
some help staying afloat. The story explains the Theory of Constraints and concentrates on bottlenecks
and constraints. The plant manager, and also the main character in the story, is Alex Rogo. In the book,
Alex is depicted as a husband, a father and long time project engineer and plant manager at UniCo
struggling with both his marriage and his manufacturing plant. The main plot of the story starts off
with Bill Peach (Division Vice President) telling Alex that the plant is not profitable. Peach then gives
Alex a three month deadline to improve the plant s performance dramatically and increase profits or
the production plant will shut down. Peach fails to mention that the entire division is under water and
may soon be shut down by corporate. During this challenging time, Alex is also dealing with an
impatient wife at home who is sick and tired of her husband spending so much time at work. She
eventually moves out and Alex is stuck trying to figure out how he can salvage both his marriage and
production plant. When Alex runs into an old Physics Professor, Jonah, he begins to express all of his
challenges at work and is surprised to hear that Jonah is fully aware that the plant is missing deadlines
and experiencing high inventory and expenses. Jonah helps to guide Alex through this challenging
period. Before Alex can tackle the problems, he must first identify the goal.

Henrietta Lacks Ethics
Henrietta Lacks died in 1951 of cervical cancer, leaving behind a husband, five children and some
cells taken from her without her permission. These cells continue to revolutionize the scientific field
today and have played an integral role in some of the most important advances in medicine: cloning,
chemotherapy, gene mapping, the polio vaccine and in vitro fertilization. The Immortal Life of
Henrietta Lacks answers a lot of questions regarding the Lacks family, but also poses a number of
questions regarding ethics, consent and how far society is willing to go to make medical advances.
George Gey was the head of tissue culture at Hopkins and was determined to grow the first immortal
human cells. Researchers in 1943 proved an immortal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people would assume that, because of HeLa s impact on society, the Lacks family is probably
very wealthy and well informed about HeLa cells; unfortunately, that is not the case. Not only did the
Lacks feel taken advantage of by the medical community, but it wasn t until an article by Howard
Jones in December 1971 that Henrietta s real name was finally revealed. That same article was used to
inform Bobbette Lacks, Henrietta s daughter in law, that the immortal cells she had been reading about
in the paper were Henrietta s. Bobbette was the first member of the Lacks family to learn about the
fate of Henrietta s cells and she immediately ran to the family yelling, Part of your mother, it s alive!
(181). The family felt misinformed, confused, betrayed and most of all, angry. In 1976, Mike Rodgers
published an article in Rolling Stone that informed the Lacks family that people were buying and
selling Henrietta s cells. The family immediately accused Hopkins of withholding money from them.
Lawrence, Henrietta s eldest son, was quoted saying, Hopkins say they gave them cells away, but they
made millions! It s not fair! She s the most important person in the world and her family living in
poverty. If our mother so important to

School Lunch Menu
Specify a large population that you might want to study and describe the type numeric measurement
that you will collect (examples: a count of things, the height of people, a score on a survey, the weight
of something).
The lunch program at High School has been revised to align with the new dietary requirements that
increase servings of veggies and fruits and decrease calories. Giving a survey to all students about the
school lunches is what I planned on doing.
The type of numeric measurements that I would need to collect would be:
1. The number of days that student will eat in the school within the week?
2. How many students like salads and fruits as compared to other meat servings (pasta, pizza,
hamburgers and etc.?)
3. How many students eat in school per week?
4. How many students bring their own lunch per week?
5. How often do students eat the cafeteria food in a month?
6. Do you feel you have enough time to eat your lunch?
7. Explanations would change but may include the need to discover if the lunches were different and
how many students really eat school lunch, would student eat school lunch?
8. Given the new school lunch menu, how many students would like the ... Show more content on

Occasionally uncommon instances are represented by outliers. Other times they symbolize data entry
errors, or maybe data that doesn t belong with another data of interest. More robust methods of
investigation when conducting the study for the population need to be used. The next method is to
transform your data using box plot or histograms. This may serve other functions at the same time. It
may help cope with outliers, although it probably should not be used simply because there s an outlier.
A histogram is especially useful when there exists large number pf observations. The range of values
in types breaks, and show percentage or just the count of the observations that fall into each

Viking Activity in the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Centuries The pagans from the northern regions came
with a naval force to Britain like stinging hornets and … robbed, tore and slaughtered … even priests
and deacons, and companies of monks and nuns
Originating from the sparsely populated, barren and virtually resourceless land of the Scandinavian
peninsulas, the Vikings set out, in the late 8th century to capture the wealth and resources of their
trading partners. Throughout the 8th, 9th and 10th centuries the Northmen brutally killed and ... Show

Each Viking race, striving to capture the perceived wealth and fertile lands of their European trading
partners, so different to the barren and resourceless peninsulas of Scandinavia, efficiently moved
throughout areas of Europe, violently conquering as they travelled. The Norwegians moved towards
Western Europe, invading countries such as Scotland, Ireland, Greenland, Iceland and Newfoundland.
The Danish invaded to the South, conquering areas such as the Frankish empire, Seville and Southern
Gaul. The Swedish raiders moved towards the East, invading parts of Russia, Constantinople,
Baghdad, and it is suggested moved even as far as Western China. (David M. Wilson, The Vikings and
Their Origins (New York: A W Publishers inc. 1980), 65 71) United by a common Language, the
Scandinavian people are portrayed by history as little more than violent thieves, who used force to
invade Europe, and terrorised the continent for well over a century.
The Viking attacks throughout Europe were perhaps best characterised by two things: the inhumane
violence and savagery of the attacks, and also the swiftness, stealth and incredible mobility of the
people. Many records of Viking attacks create

back to our gate we were boarding. Finally we were on the plane. I have a brother but I always call

When she fell we all heard a crash. The lady had gotten stuck between the two seats and couldn t

her out. So after that incident they decided to move us to a new gate and said your

MotorCycle Diaries Essay 3
All discovery is in some way transformative. An individual s discovery is transformative on their
perceptions of the world. This is the case for the book The Motorcycle Diaries by Ernesto Che
Guevara and Keats s sonnet On first looking into Chapman s Homer . In this book, we are taken on
Che s journey as he travels Latin America as a young man, before the fame. His diary entries lead the
reader into his own eyes, as a typical young man on an adventure, not the revolutionary figure we all
associate him with. Through his descriptive entries of the landscape he journeys across, we discover
his deeper connection to the land of South America and the love he has for its people. As well as the

spiritual awakening as he explores deeper into the heart of the continent, his paints a picture of the
landscape with his words like The full moon is silhouetted against the sea, smothering the waves with
silver reflection . The descriptive image che relays through his journal is spiritual in a sense as it
conveys his connection and love for the land. Che also develops a spiritual connection as he discovers
the historical significance of the ancient structures that exist throughout Peru. Che describes Machu
Picchu being The most important and irrefutable thing, however, is that here we found the pure
expression of the most powerful indigenous race in the Americas... The spectacular landscape circling
the fortress supplies an essential backdrop, inspiring dreamers to wander its ruins . This highlights
ches greater discovery of the significance that these magnificent buildings have to the people of South
America. The exploration of these cultural buildings leads Che to a greater understanding of the
historical significance in which they represent a lost civilization. His greater understanding of South
America transforms his appreciation of the land into a spiritual connection. Che s journey through
South America opened his eyes to the poverty and inequality that

Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Barack Obama
Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Barack Obama The economy of the 1930s was a devastating financial
situation that the American public will never forget. However, this doesn t mean that history will cease
to repeat itself. The political policies of Franklin Delano Roosevelt are often acknowledged for the
relief of our country s depression and some of which are still in effect today. To avoid our current
recession, will Barack Obama choose to base his policies off of FDR s in hopes that the same plan will
work twice? There are some similarities and differences between the political action today and the
action during the Great Depression. Within just the first 99 days of his election as President, Roosevelt

The best solution would to be to save our money and work hard at what we do. Though it may seem
that there are no jobs available to us at the moment, we do have to trust that the companies around us

agree with how Franklin D. Roosevelt tried to solve the Great Depression, I have to admit that what he
did he thought he was doing for the best. Great presidents like Obama, Roosevelt, and even Hoover

  • 2. Value Analysis Of Boeing Boeing 787 Dreamliner Boeing is a global company that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes. It is amongst the largest aerospace companies that manufacturers commercial jetliners and is second largest defense contractor. Boeing is also a leader manufacturer in space and security systems. Boeing began in Seattle, WA in 1910 and now their headquarters are in Chicago, IL and is the largest exporter in the United States. The Boeing Company adopted the radical change approach because they were trying to accelerate development time and reduce overall costs. Boeing actively embraced outsourcing to their supply chain that involved over 40 suppliers in about 100 different locations around the world. According to Forbes Magazine, The approach was intended to reduce the 787 s development time from six to four years and development cost from $10 to $6 billion. In the 1990 s the company Airbus started stealing market share from Boeing. Boeing responded by innovating their products using value analysis. According to Professor Todd s chapter four slide 12, value analysis is the examination of the function of parts and materials to reduce the cost and/or improve the performance of a product. Boeing has traditionally used aluminum for their airplanes, but changed their 787 to carbon fiber, aluminum, and titanium. This allowed for increased humidity and maintained pressure within the cabin; which also would reduce maintenance and replacement costs (Denning, 2013). This makes the ... • 4. Analysis Of Queer In the past decades, the word queer traversed many definitions, from a pejorative for gay to a self affirming umbrella term. While the word queer is primarily associated with non normative tendencies (Love 172), the word uncanny...applies to everything that was intended to remain secret, hidden away, and has come into the open (Freud 132). Upon closer inspection of the words, queer and uncanny, and Andrew Davenport s popular children s television show Teletubbies, we see that the Teletubbies are the exemplary, digital manifestations of queer, uncanny doppelgängers (Cole). It is 2000. Sunday morning. I am 3. I wake up, pop out of bed, and sprint down the steps. Mom is in the kitchen cooking a hot, delicious breakfast. I glide past her and turn on the TV. Patiently waiting, I clutch my favorite toy: my Po doll. As I squeeze her, her stomach screen lights up. The TV lights up too. I lift my head and see the familiar landscape of Teletubbyland, its rolling hills and warm feelings. Mom walks over to me and sets down a plate of hot sausages, eggs, and bacon. But I cannot see her. I only see bright, warm colors. I only see Po, emerging from the Superdome. I only see Po s welcoming eyes. To say the least Teletubbies is an incredibly entertaining television show. In each thirty minute episode, four baby faced, asexual aliens, Po, Laa Laa, Dipsy, and Tinky Winky, wake up to the smiling face of a baby on the sun, come out from their Tubbytronic Superdome, and eat pink custard. ... • 5. Positive Liberty Should the Government Promote Positive Liberty? The idea of liberty, or freedom, varies between different theorists. One theorist, Isaiah Berlin, focused on the difference between two different ways of thinking about political liberty (Cherniss amp; Hardy, 2010). Berlin called these two different concepts negative and positive liberty. According to Berlin, negative freedom can be defined as freedom from , that is, freedom from constraint or interference of others. In contrast, positive freedom can be defined in two ways: freedom to , that is the ability to pursue and achieve willed goals; and also as autonomy or self rule, as opposed to the dependence on others (Cherniss amp; Hardy, 2010). (Keong, 2007). Another concern expressed by Keong (2007) is the idea that positive liberty means we expect the state to hand us certain things on a silver platter. Positive liberty has been used as a platform to push through ideas such as the principle that everyone is entitled to a minimum income or standard of living, though not everyone is comfortable with the moral hazard this might evoke (Keong, 2007). Key questions asked with this in mind include; if you are guaranteed something, will you be willing to contribute back to society for it? Or, will you sit around and collect your entitlements? (Keong, 2007; Haworth, 1991). After going through what positive liberty is, examples of positive liberty and the debates surrounding positive liberty, the main question running through my head is whether the government should promote positive liberty? While I do acknowledge what Keong says about people expecting the state to hand entitlements over, I think that the government should promote positive liberty to maintain order within society. An image that runs through my head at the thought of the government not promoting positive liberty is one of anarchy. People can do whatever they like with no consequence which to me, breeds chaos all around. At least with positive liberty, people can do what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. To What Extent Was the Period of Conservative Rule 1951-64... This essay will examine the impact of the Conservative party during their period in office between 1951 and 1964. The assessments by historians of these thirteen years vary widely as the Conservative rule left behind a mixed feeling about its achievements. We will therefore be discussing to what extent their period in office can be described as thirteen years wasted , based on their performances in the political, economic and social sectors. When the Conservative Party came to power in 1951, they won the election by a slim majority of 26 seats, leaving them with very little power to make important changes. However, their number of seats increased throughout their thirteen years in office, leaving them with a majority of 107 in the 1959 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Dig for Victory campaign reminded people of the importance of agriculture. The Conservatives also focused on several aspects of the social sector by putting into place important extensions to the Welfare State. These include the increase of benefits and the implementation of the Mental Health Act which spread awareness of mental illness and increased its social acceptance, which was a huge step towards tolerance which was ahead of its time. However the plan to build 90 new hospitals across Britain never came into action as the Labour government had retaken office in 1964. Despite this, the improvements in healthcare can be seen as a big success for the Conservatives, although, yet again it can be said that they could have done much more in their thirteen years in this sector. Progress was also made in the area of education as 6000 new schools and 11 new universities were constructed and many more were expanded. However their was a big debate about the merits of comprehensive and grammar schools. The Conservatives, who supported grammar schools for most of their time in office finally gave into the inevitable fact that comprehensive education did offer certain advantages that grammar schools did not. The time that the Conservatives spent preventing county councils from introducing comprehensive systems was therefore counter productive and a waste of time. Last but not ... One product will have a high content of something good and another will have low content in something bad. When it is time to consider what we put in our bodies we have ample opportunity to weight the pros and cons of various products. According to the Nielsen Global Survey in 2011 sixty percent of the population doesn t not understand the mandatory nutritional code in order to properly identify the ingredients they are considering ingesting. Alarmingly, this statistic is that the nutrition label and the ingredients list are the only true allies a consumer has when determining what we should be eating. Only they tell the full story of what the food we are consuming is comprised of. For this assignment I was asked to first select two pairs of similar food products from the supermarket and then secondly compare them, while critically evaluating both their food labels and ingredients. I chose to compare coconut milk against 2% dairy milk and rolled oats versus steel cut oats. I am going to address the following comparisons in the body of my essay: the nutrition facts table, serving sizes, price, ingredients, product claims, percentage of daily value (%DV), whether they are part of a healthy eating plan, and lastly whether their labeling is clear and concise. Some typical examples include paintings, sculptures, music, and literature. This paper most directly deals with the literature aspect as it compares the themes featured in the two novels that were introduced in the HC 100 class. While both Robert Kurson s Pirate Hunters and A.G. Riddle s The Atlantis Gene contain similar themes such as choices, fear, persistence, and exploration, they differ due to the fact that Pirate Hunters focuses mainly on personal discovery, whereas The Atlantis Gene emphasizes on more generalized and important themes like power, secrets, and making sacrifices to help others. The two novels are similar in the aspect that they both include themes of fear, persistence, exploration, dedication, and making choices. In Pirate Hunters, Mattera searched as many files as he could in the General Archive of the Indies in Seville, Spain, but he still could not find any mention of Bannister and his ship, The Golden Fleece. At this point, Mattera said that now it seemed he was running out of light (Kurson 110). This is one example that expresses the themes of dedication, choice, and exploration in Pirate Hunters. Mattera felt inclined to give up; he was stumped, and he had to make a choice. Mattera s dedication to the cause of exploration is what influenced his decision to remain on his quest. The three major events that led up to the American Revolution where the French and Indian War, Intolerable Acts, and the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The British fueled the American Revolution by limiting colonist s expansion, violating their rights, invading U.S. soil. All three of these events against the colonists came together like a puzzle to start the American Revolution War. The war was fought in North America, eventually the British won the war and French was kicked out of the North America territory. The British were able to gain a substantial amount of land from the colonists although they suffered some repercussions. The war had been enormously expensive, and the British government s attempts to impose taxes on colonists to help cover these expenses resulted in increasing colonial resentment of British attempts to expand imperial authority in the colonies. In the B2B space specifically, GE has a number of divisions, including aviation, energy consulting and management, healthcare, oil and gas, mining, power, and transportation. Individual consumers only need to worry about their own needs, whereas B2B customers need to look at the needs of the company as a whole. It behooves B2B companies to seek out influencers and powerful executives, while B2C companies may focus on any one consumer seeking a product or service. A chemical change can be identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven dealt with vinegar being added to milk. Hitler s Willing Executioners by Daniel Goldhagen Not many historical works have achieved more success and have generated more heated debate than Daniel Goldhagen s book Hitler s Willing Executioners. Goldhagen s thesis relies on the idea that since medieval times, a specific kind of eliminationist anti Semitism had developed in Germany. According to Goldhagen, the German population was already open to the idea of eliminating the Jews. He also claims that when Hitler came to Power in 1933, rather than slowly convincing the Germans to commit mass murder, he merely gave them the opportunity to do what they have wanted to do for years. Goldhagen also inflated the number of people involved, suggesting that hundreds of thousands were participating in the killing and that millions more would have willingly joined in, given the opportunity. Despite the rejection of the book by many German and non German historians, the German version of the book, published in August 1996, sold very well. Eighty thousand copies of the German edition sold in the first month of the book s release. By the time of Goldhagen s tour in September, three thousand copies were being sold every single day. Facts like these show how important communication is with the public. Therefore, by giving up her title of mother of all living, Eve removes her station as above the animals and makes herself one with them. Another reason this is significant is because in Genesis 2:23 it is written, And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore, she is disconnecting herself from Adam. She is no longer being called woman, which is taken out of man. She is unique from all creation yet she is also connected with all of creation. Accordingly, the story implies the only way to find true spirituality is by making yourself one with nature. This is implied through the narrative of Adam searching for the key to the garden of Eden. Prior to this time, DNA was still a mystery in how impactful its purpose could be to society and the growing age of science and technology. DNA became of importance to learn about the foundation in relation to genetic and hereditary. Without the contribution of Franklin, todays understanding of the DNA structure would not exist. Rosalind Franklin died before the Nobel Peace Prize was given for the discovery of DNA. If she been alive, her receipt of the award would have been justifiable. Despite her death, Rosalind Franklin demonstrated the knowledge and research essential for understanding deoxyribonucleic acid and as a result should receive recognition in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize. Rosalind Franklin s work on DNA was crucial in discovering the composition of the human body as a whole. Her x ray photo revealed a double helix structure and she also discovered the A and B form of DNA. She worked through the adversity of being a female in a predominately male dominated realm and made remarkable findings that were eventually stolen. She adapted to a new lab with antiquated technology. Before this discovery, the structure of DNA was thought to be simple. Scientist, Watson and Crick, started with the wrong structure of DNA from a misinterpretation of notes from one of Franklin s presentations. I shall be the patient On the hospital bed, lying in drugged slum And dreaming of home. I shall be the grandmother Willing away her belongings, those scraps and trinkets More lasting than her bones. It is more of an alternate perspective on the driving force behind biological evolution. Rather than thinking that natural selection and random mutation lead evolution, theistic evolutionists hypothesize that god only used evolution as a means to create man, a process often referred to as Guided Evolution . Regardless of the interpretation, both forms assert that life stems from a common ancestor, created by god and designed to be the beginning of the evolutionary process. A glaring objection to this idea is that of the Book of Genesis, which displays the origin of man from a creationist point of view. According to this piece of work, God created the physical world in entirety within six days, and finally creating man from dust on the seventh day. Theistic evolutionists emphasize the metaphorical meaning behind the Book of Genesis, while holding their position that the words should not be taken literally, and the components of the story did not actually happen. There are several arguments that are made in opposition to guided evolution, the most widely used objection is the Problem of Evil . The problem of evil questions how one could reconcile the existence evil in the world with an omnibenevolent god. In the novel The God of Small Things , Arundhati Roy presents minute details about each character and how their lives are changed based on the societal norms in India. Not only does Roy address the importance of small things , but she also gives the title The God of Small Things to Velutha, an untouchable who is amongst the lowest social class of India according to the caste system. Although Velutha s social status is practically worthless, him being given the title, God of small things represents all the small things within the story that are overlooked. In a society where big things such as information about social caste system, wealth, religion, political standings, and marriage are important, Roy repeatedly emphasizes the small things having the most impact on the characters within the story. Take Baby Kochamma, Comrade Pillai, and Velutha for example, the society they live in are mostly concerned on social status and politics as opposed to important minute details that shape the way they think. By making Velutha the god of small things, someone who s at the bottom class structure in India, Roy shows that it is wrong to live accordingly to the ideas confined by society. SARS is a very new and rare disease. SARS was officially recognized as a threat by the World Health Organization in March of 2003. This outbreak was the only one ever recorded of its type, up until the recent Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. Scientists recognized SARS as a variation of the coronavirus. In humans, the typical coronavirus is one of the many that cause the common cold. In livestock, the virus is found to create serious and fatal diseases. Scientists believe that this variation of the coronavirus originated from civets and the Horseshoe bat. Corona viruses are known for their ability to mutate in order to spread among humans. CHAPTER 1 ERHARD BODENSCHATZ AND THE FLORILEGIUM POTENSE Lutheran church music in its first two and a half centuries can be characterized by the incorporation of a staggering variety of styles and musical genres. Plainchant, imitative polyphony, and chorale hymnody existed alongside one another, and composers such as Heinrich Schütz (1585 1672) and Johann Hermann Schein (1586 1630) were among the first to synthesize elements of Monteverdi s seconda pratica with a fully German practice. In the preface to his Deutsche Messe und Ordnung (German Mass and Order of Divine Service) of 1526, Luther wrote: For by no means would I have the Latin language completely removed from the divine service, as my chief concern is with the youth. If I could bring to pass that Greek and Hebrew were as familiar to us as the Latin, and offered as much good music and song, we would hold mass, sing and read on successive Sundays in all four languages: German, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. If your competitors start to globalize and you do not, they can use their global stronghold to attack you in at least two ways. First, they can develop a first mover advantage in capturing market growth, pursuing global scale efficiencies, profiting from knowledge arbitrage, and providing a coordinated source of supply to global customers. Second, they can use multi market presence to cross subsidize and wage a more intense attack in your own home markets. It is dangerous to underestimate the rate at which competition can accelerate the pace of globalization. Look at Fuji s inroads into the U.S. market, historically dominated by Kodak. The trend is happening in other industries as well, such as in white goods, personal computers, and financial services. In the emerging era, every industry must be considered a global industry. The following framework and set of conceptual ideas can guide firms in approaching the strategic challenge of casting their business lines overseas and building global presence: * How should a multiproduct firm choose the product line to launch it into the global market? * What factors make some markets more strategic than others? * What should companies consider in determining the ...
