The Poetry of e.e. cummings Essay
The Poetry of e.e. cummings
The poems to come are for you and for me and are not for most people.
it s no use trying to pretend that mostpeople and ourselves are alike. Mostpeople have less in common
with ourselves than the squarerootofminusone. You and I are human beings;mostpeople are snobs.
Take the matter of being born. What does being born mean to mostpeople? Catastrophe unmitigated.
Socialrevolution. The cultured aristocrat yanked out of his hyperexclusively ultravoluptuous
superpalazzo, and dumped into an incredibly vulgar detentioncamp swarming with every conceivable
species of undesirable organism. Mostpeople fancy a guaranteed birthproof safetysuit of
nondestructible selflessness. If mostpeople were to be born twice ... Show more content on

They miss his satirical views, his beautiful observations, and his skillful choice of words. This lack of
respect for the importance of individual words prompted Cummings attack of most people. His
bitterness is directly related to his struggle to get this particular collection of poetry his seventh
published.
Edward Estlin Cummings has always had an affinity for language. Early in life he penned a couplet,
which illustrates his reliance on the power of simple observation:
O, the pretty birdie, O; with his little toe,toe,toe! (Norman, 1958, p. 26)
This appreciation for one s ability to observe and interpret was influenced by Cummings upbringing.
Born on October 14, 1894, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Edward Estlin had the gift of caring,
intelligent, progressive parents. His father, Edward, graduated from Harvard in 1883, with a degree in
philosophy. He then studied at Oxford, with the Reverend Samuel A. Barnett and Professor Estlin
Carpenter (who made enough of an impression on the young Edward to cause him to choose to name
his son after him.) Edward Cummings went on to teach political economy and sociology at Harvard
until 1900. His instruction was praised with the following commendation: As a teacher at Harvard he
was human, alert, and stimulating (Norman, p. 17). These attributes would eventually

Fast Foods And Fast Food
Fast food, by name itself is the food that consumes comparatively less amount of time to be prepared
than the food that we order from the restaurants. They are preheated and precooked which is served to
customer in a packaged form or take away. Fast foods are the most common food these days and these
restaurants are growing rapidly worldwide. People of all ages love fast food and it is more popular
among young people. The important reasons for this business to grow are the busy schedule people
have today. Fast food saves a lot of time and is providing employment to large number of people. In
contrary to that, it is unhealthy, and people are gaining weight constantly.
Fast food saves a lot of time. It is easier to cook and faster to deliver to the people. I have always been
thankful to fast food restaurants whenever I am late to work or I am not able to cook food for me. For
instance, in fast foods like McDonalds, Subway, Chipotle and so on, it does not even take 5 minutes to
make an order the food. Unlike, if we go to dine in restaurants they take a lot of time to make an order
and then bring it to the guest. It almost takes s 45 minutes to finish eating after I get to the restaurants.
If I calculate the time, fast food is saving 5 hours and 25 minutes a week, which is a plenty of time.
Similarly, the most common and famous facility that the fast food restaurants are having these days is
the drive thru facilities. It is very helpful to the people with busy routine. In this

What Are John F Kennedy s Major Accomplishments
John F. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. He sadly died at the very
young age of 46 on November 22, 1963. Growing up, his family was fairly wealthy as his father dealt
with the stock market and economics. After John F. Kennedy grew up, he joined they navy and was a
gunboat pilot in World War II. He received battle wounds during the war and after his deployment he
was awarded with a purple heart.
John F. Kennedy was the second child of Joseph Kennedy Jr. and Rose Kennedy. He was one of nine
children including Joe, Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, Patricia, Robert, Jean and Teddy. On September
12, 1953, he married Jacqueline Bouvier and seven years later, he found himself in the presidential
election of 1960. During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kennedy had many accomplishments during his short presidency. One of these accomplishments was
in regards to the Cuban Missile Crisis. He played a lead role in figuring out how to settle this with the
Soviet Union. He also abolished the federal death penalty in 1962. He initiated Project Apollo which
ended up accomplishing landing the first humans on the moon between 1969 1972!
Lastly, he played a large part in stopping racism and segregation. He showed a lot of love and sincerity
with this and the American people appreciated and admired him for that. He highly disagreed with
segregation and focused on civil rights towards the end of his election. On June 11th, 1963, he
delivered a televised speech stating his beliefs and presented a proposal for a new bill to be passed.
This bill would later be called the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
On November 22nd, 1963, President Kennedy had traveled to Dallas, Texas to participate in a
motorcade that was traveling to Dealy Plaza. He was sitting with his wife, Jacqueline on the back of a
convertible followed by his Vice President, Lyndon Johnson behind him. While he passed the Texas
School Book Depository, Lee Harvey Oswald set up a sniper post on the 6th story of the building.
Oswald allegedly fired three shots at Kennedy, one missing him and two striking him in the neck and
head. Sadly, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy passed away from his gunshot wounds and his Vice
President, Lyndon Johnson was sworn into office right away.

Life Changing Experience In Life
For many, a life changing moment comes in the form of a tragedy or a hard earned revelation. Mine
came in the form of a five year old girl named Sofia. Sofia spent most of her time in the oncology
ward of the hospital where I volunteered. Her days consisted of sterile hospital rooms, scans, and
chemotherapy. She was losing her hair because of chemo when most girls her age were learning how
to braid theirs. She played with a doll (Mr. Buttons) in her hospital room instead of playing with other
children. Sofia wasn t lonely in the traditional sense. Family, friends, and even strangers visited the
little girl, but could barely interact with her. Most of the time, she was too tired to play and, when she
finally mustered the energy, she found herself behind a glass panel. The doctors thought it best to keep
Sofia isolated, to minimize her chances of falling ill in her already feeble condition. And, indeed, this
is how I interacted with Sofia for a month. Week after week, hour after hour, I d go to the glass wall to
see if she had awoken and would spend an hour that felt like seconds, playing with her. I suppose that
s relativity for you. Sofia was both the highlight and heartbreak of my week. Comments like, Poor
thing and It s just not fair were heard as often as the incessant beeping of the monitors. Talk is cheap,
and pity doesn t make progress. I had to do something. It is very rare to come across an opportunity to
make a fundamental change in the lives of thousands. I

Genetic Engineering In Our Food.. Genetic Engineering,

process where a small metal projectile is covered in plasmid DNA is fired at a small petri dish where
Germ Cells of another organism awaits. The disruption of the cells delicate state causes
destabilization, and the cells stabilize elements from both the fired DNA and the Germ cells merge.
This process did not exist until quite recently, between the years 1983 and 1986 the first Gene Gun

Cotton while not consumed, it is used to make 85% of men s clothing in the US and around 60% of

clothing worn in the US is produced solely from cotton, that is a massive number of people being
exposed to GE material without even taking a single bite of food. So within around 20 years since
1996 when GE was first introduced shortly to be commercialized, around 75% of the US population is
being exposed to GE materials through food and also through the clothes we all wear. Let s switch

The Application Of The Patent System
Intellectual Property Midterm
Question #2
The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has the
opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in order to
allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate profits that
reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate their
inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent licensing,
whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company legitimately uses has
been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive patent holders that initiate
frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt companies, for the sole purpose
of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually creating new products.
Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in high
technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has not
been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued are for
advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling patent
trolling. Some companies aggressively assert their patent portfolios to prevent competitors from
entering the market. Small companies are

Western Imperialism
1. (a) The post WWII is marked as the rise of human rights. The universal human rights has become
apparent in the international system, and has become the basis of drafting the UDHR. The universal
human rights states all humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. This phrase has
guaranteed and protected the human rights of all human beings without any distinction. However, the
universal notion of human rights has initiated controversy among many critiques. Some have argued
that the Declaration was another way of Western imperialism because the idea has adopted western
philosophical and political principles. This has instigated the rise of cultural relativism, which claimed
that every culture has specific beliefs and perspectives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(a) The universalists conceptualize rights as a special narrow category of rights based on a universal
notion of the inherent dignity of human beings and human rights claims are morally justified demands
to rectify injustice (Lecture 2). Human rights ensure that all human beings have these inherent dignity
and rights. The universalism puts more emphasis on the individual rights to impede states from
violation of these rights, winning over state sovereignty. The tension of this approach is the rise of
cultural legitimacy, claiming that rights are relative and culture are important to non Western states to
make international human rights feasible. The cultural relativists recognize that every culture has
specific world view, with its own notion of good and noble paths, its own notion of how to be a full
human (Lecture 2). To non Western countries that highly values and emphasizes cultural heritage and
traditions in daily life, the concept of human rights is redefined into a more local context that fits their
culture. As An Na im puts it, the violations of human rights take place due to the lack of cultural
legitimacy of human rights standards (2009: 68). Culture is significant to address and respect the
different ideas of human rights among different culture and to make the non western countries more
familiar with human rights. (b) An Na im is opposed to the universality of human rights and favors the
cultural relativist of human rights. He argues that the observance of human rights standards can be
improved through the enhancement of the cultural legitimacy of those standards (An Na im 2009: 69).
He emphasizes the importance of cross cultural legitimacy (An Na im 2009: 69) to develop human
rights through the interpretation of different cultural norms. He further asserts that universalism is
based on ethnocentricity and cultural diversity is unavoidable (An Na im 2009: 72,77). For example,
the cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment is not

Beet Research Papers
No vision improvement program is complete without the proper nutritional foundation to support
better eye health. So, if your taste buds are craving a break from traditional foods good for eyes, here
are some foods you never knew that can improve and promote better eyesight.
Beets: When it comes to eye health foods, Beets are good for your eyes as they consist of Lutein and
Zeaxanthin, beneficial nutrients that promote the health of the macular and the retina of the eyes. Due
to its content in Nitrates, Beets can open up the blood vessels in the eyes and also increase the blood
flow to the brain, a good way to prevent cognitive disorders. More importantly, this vegetable is
popular for its blood pressure lowering properties. This is significant because there is a connection
between normal blood pressure and better eyesight, as high blood pressure has a negative impact on
eye health.

Blue Skies Irving Berlin Meaning
Blue Skies was one of the songs written by Irving Berlin months after the birth of his first child,
daughter Mary Ellin, in 1926. This piece came during a time of transition in Berlin s life, and the song
itself has transcend many centuries, adapting to the style of each time. It is important to explore the
differences between the periodical versions of Blue Skies ; however, the underlying message of the
song remains constant throughout time. The lyrics of Irving Berlin s Blue Skies plays with the
contrasting meanings behind the word blue, along with switching tonalities, allowing the song to
portray a hopeful outlook toward the future, while it s depressing mood brings this hope back to
reality.

Blue Skies started its rise to popularity in the 1926 musical Betsy, which was originally a Rodgers and

fact that Ms. Baker forgot the lyrics, and Irving Berlin himself sang them from the front row.

The Ethics Of Interplanetory Space Travel
I am writing this letter to you to assess the pros and cons of interplanetory space travel. Should we
send humans to Mars? Is it right? Is it really ethical to put fourth human missions to this inhospital
planet? YES! In this letter I will be arguing the pros of why we should say YES to the next step
forward in humanity. I hope that after reading this it will assist your thoughts and consideration of
human interplanetory space travel.
Mars may remain inhospital much like the interior of the Antartic, as it stands, however we can
transform our neighbouring red planet into a hospitable checkpoint for further space travel. At this
moment in time Mars is currently uninhabited, and so, as quoted in a BBC article: this can give us the
freedom and oppotunity to artifically transform the climate, surface and atmosphere to enable humans
to live on the red planet without life support systems. Not only will this be the next step in humanly
evolution, this is also potentially the next step to saving human kind, our own species, you want that

Comparing The Tolkien s The Hobbit
The contrast between different types of leadership appears in the chapter Flies and Spiders in J.R.R
Tolkien s The Hobbit. The chapter starts off with the group no longer having Gandalf lead them
through the perils that lie in the Mirkwood. Thorin helps lead the group past a deadly river that cannot
be touched and helps them until he is captured by elves. Bilbo battle spiders and saves the dwarves on
multiple occasions in Thorin s absence. In this chapter you see a new contrast in Throrin and
Company. No longer having Gandalf Thorin picked up the mantle of leadership and lead by command.
Bilbo then assumed the role of leadership in Thorins absence and lead by putting others first, putting
himself on the line. As the story progresses you have these two types of leadership contrasting
throughout the story. Ultimately in the end Bilbo s was of leadership proved to be better.
When entering the Mirkwood Gandalf left the group leaving Thorin to lead the group through the
woods. Thorin leads the group by command through Mirkwood usually delegating who should do
what in the group. As the group is trying to find their way across the river on pages 132 133 Thorin
takes command of the situation. Once the group had a solid plan Thorin delegates the order of travel

A Look into Psalms 119
Everyday millions of Americans read stories to their children before they go to bed. I often read Dr.
Seuss books to my son Seth, who is four years old. He loves the rhythm and rimes that are those
books. One of his favorites is Green Eggs and Ham. Seth has begun to answer the questions of Sam,
answering him for the other character saying he does not like green eggs and ham . It caught my
attention that some of the Psalms also have a repetitive nature. Psalm 119 is the longest of all the
Psalms and is very repetitive. Many people only read one section of the Psalm because of the
repetitive nature and do not look at the chapter as a whole. There is a lack of churches teaching on the
Psalms and some a not reading them at all. Psalm 119 is more than a long repetitive Psalm, reading it
as one passage there is evidence of determination by the author to show why following the Lord s
teaching is vital to life as a Christian. Comparison of three sections of Psalm 119 will show how the
Psalm repeats the same theme throughout the work. This shows that the repetition is helpful in
remembering the reason for follow God s laws. The first section is 119:1 8 and will show the message
the psalmist trying to convey. The second section is 119:33 40 and this will show that God is our
teacher and one way to learn is to follow God s instructions. The third section is 119:65 72 this
conveys that life is found in the openness of God s instruction. All these sections together

Dorothea Lynde Dix And The Inhumane And Dark Experiences

Adr 6-22 Values
Why do you wake up in the morning? Who are you deep down as a person or Soldier? What are your
values? These are soul searching questions that the Army needs and wants to know. Getting to know
the individuals that the Army is comprised of will give you a better understanding on how to lead
them. This is where ADRP 6 22 attributes and competencies come into play. The Army profession
certifies competence, character and commitment and each one is emphasized differently.
Character is defined as a person s moral and ethical qualities, basically who you are as a person. Your
character impacts every decision you make or don t make. It will drive the train on every aspect of
your personal and military career. The Army emphasizes that it wants leaders of character based on
regulation and the Army Values. The key to the Army s leadership model is that it will fit into almost
every Soldiers own set of values. As an organization the Army s core values must resonate with every
Soldier in order to operate. When you integrate values it is no longer someone else s view but rather a
unified set of core values that everyone believes in. When you are a leader of character with unified
values you start to build trust with your Soldiers. Through your actions, and your words credibility
starts to form. Once credible, your Soldiers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Without commitment it would be impossible to accomplish action that the U.S Military deems
appropriate. Without commitment the Army is not unified but rather a lot of

Hamlet, Shakespeare s Spectacle Essay
Deceit, mystery, murder, and betrayal are all very captivating and together have the makings for a
daytime soap opera. In this case, however, they are a part of the tragedy of Hamlet. The most regaling
aspects of this play, despite the entertaining and compelling qualities just mentioned, are the revenge
and the surprisingly unappealing nature of the main character, Hamlet. Throughout the play, Hamlet
makes stupid choices that will ultimately lead to his own death, and the death of many around him.
Hamlet should not be identified as a courageous hero seeking to avenge his father but instead as a
coward lacking determination.
Hamlet and revenge are almost synonymous. Hamlet and determination are not. As a primary theme of

He had many opportunities to catch Claudius but did not. One such case is when Claudius went to
repent. While Claudius was praying, Hamlet thought, I, his sole son, do this same villain send/ to
heaven...No! / Up, sword, and know thou a more horrid hent (3.3.77 88). Hamlet did not kill Claudius,
as he didn t want him to go to heaven and decided to procrastinate even further. Hamlet s weak
choices can be compared to that of a train wreck. The choices are unbelievable and passersby, or in
this case readers, just cannot look away. Hamlet sees the wrongdoings surrounding him and does
nothing. As Ronald Knowles says, He believes only too well that murder and incest are bad and in
need of corrective action... but such a resolution is dialectically reversed from action to words (1056
1057). Hamlet lacks the courage to do what he desires and deems right. To me, if you don t do what
you think is right you are the biggest coward of all.
Does bravery increase with age or is a person less likely to stand for what is right because they have
more at stake? Hamlet, as we can infer from the play, is an adult, and not a valiant one at that. When
Hamlet is speaking to one of the gravediggers you come to find out, he is thirty years old. For a grown
man, and one who is meant to be a king, Hamlet is melodramatic for no reason and he presents
himself as an emotionally unbalanced teenager. Well known author T.S. Eliot also believes Hamlet

Civic Vs Honda Research Paper
You have narrowed down your options to just two cars. Now, you have to decide on an answer. Honda
Accord versus Civic: Which is Right for You? Depending on the driver s circumstances in life, needs
and price range, the answer to this question can vary. While Honda Accords and Honda Civics are
grouped together as sedans, there are actually a number of differences between the two vehicles.
Size Matters
The most obvious difference between an Accord and a Civic is the size. In 1982, Honda introduced the
Accord as their first vehicle in the Untied States. While both vehicles seat five passengers, the Honda
Civic is a compact car. The Accord is a mid size sedan, which gives it more leg room for passengers.
Since the Accord weighs about 500 pounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Honda Accord gets 27 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles on highways. Meanwhile, the
Honda Civic gets 31 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallons for highway driving. Due to
this, the Civic is an ideal vehicle for commuters who have to drive long distances to get to work every
day. The continuously variable transmission and responsive steering make it easier to navigate through
traffic.
For extra room, choose the Accord. This model is ideal for car shoppers who want to have comfortable
seating and a lot of space. The lower gas mileage makes it less suited for commuting, although it
would be extremely comfortable to drive in over long distances. The Accord is also a better choice for
moving items due to the extra space in the interior of the car and the spacious trunk.
For Power, Choose the Accord
While the Honda Civic is the best for gas mileage and commuting, the Honda Accord has much more
power. Currently, the Accord has 185horsepower, a torque of 181 lb ft and a 2.4 liter engine.
Meanwhile, the Civic has a 1.8 liter engine with 143 horsepower and 129 lb ft of torque. This means

Pygmalion in Greek mythology was a Cypriot sculptor who constructed a woman out of ivory and
named her Galatea. According to Ovid s translation, after seeing the Propoetides prostituting
themselves in public for their defiance against the gods, he became uninterested in women; however
his statue was so beautiful and realistic that he fell in love with it. After a short time, Aphrodite s

position of women in the era. This brings a very feminist, free thinking theme to the play that

I Want To Become A Career In Music
Loud music blared throughout the house while everyone attempted to sleep. Yes, It was me, a
promising young producer with a passion for music.By the time I was 14, I was marketing and selling
beats online. At a young age, I began surrounding myself with other producers and audio engineers,
and as a result, I began to learn useful techniques to become more successful. It is quite difficult being
a consistent music producer, therefore, I am compelled to work diligently to diversify my music.
Because of my experiences with music I ve grown to have exceedingly strong traits of versatility and
commitment. I ve also become remarkably resilient to hardships. I ve made beats for popular artist

With the help of beat sales and self studying methods, I was able to secure my first studio, in which I
produced a few beats that only received a couple dozen views at a time. A few years later, after
constant study, struggle and perseverance, through self doubt and peer pressure, I was able to become
an average producer. I receive over two million views on my youtube channels and over a million
views on my website monthly. People buy my beats to help fund me for future development. During
school, I always receive notifications from. different people asking for a unique beat or to license one
that they took interest in. I fell in love with making beats and I was ecstatic to find out that there was a
career that could further develop my skills. My love for beats keeps me dedicated to becoming one of
the best producers, even if it takes a long time. This dedication allowed me to not only be committed
to my music, but also, to everything I do. This devotion also caused me to become a tenacious
individual that doesn t let any obstacle interfere with my goals
Being in high school often presented me with many adversities. I was facing peer pressure, the weird
change in environment, and basically every other typical problem a freshman faced. When I told
people about my love for producing beats, many people doubted my skills and tried to kill my dreams.
However, I refused to let go of my passion for making beats and continued to strive for my goal,

Napoleon Bonaparte Failure
One of the most extravagant generals in France, Napoleon Bonaparte, received an unforeseeable
option to rule as a consulate and emperor of France. From the late eighteenth century to the mid
nineteenth century, Bonaparte was a ruler of France. Yet, as soon as the young general of France took
rule, the French Revolution was speculated to have ceased. Also, Bonaparte is suspected to be either a
democrat or dictator this period of time. Not only did the army general rise to have rulership;

positive outcomes from his reign such as dissemanating the construtive outcomes of the French

French, but in the Hundred Days War is when Bonaparte demonstrates weakness. Bonaparte
demonstrates weakness by attempting to retreat to France uknowingly, but Bonaparte was found by
the people of France as unredeemable and was then exiled. Due to the Napoleonic Wars, France was
put into an army and financial deficit. Through the actions of Bonaparte, one can determine if
Bonaparte was a dictator or democrat, since Bonaparte operated many dictatorial or democratic

Gay Marriage And Gay Rights

Gay Marriage and Gay Rights For years there has been a debate on gay marriage and gay rights in
America. Often government keeps pushing the issue back, or refuses to partake in the debates and
discussions on whether or not this type of union is legal in the United States. My hope with this paper
is to prove that gay marriage is not in fact unconstitutional, but that there is a right to freedom for
everyone, no exclusions. When it comes to gay marriage, there seem to be a number of contributing
factors that weigh in on the decisions made on the acceptance of gay marriage, most of which seem to
be religious, but can also be very heavily weighed on political views. Though religion and politics
should not intermingle and be the determining factor on whether or not people should have the right lo
to love and marry whomever they see fit, they do play a major role on the gay community, and their
own life decisions. Of course there all sorts of different theories on what could happen if the United
States government allows for the gay community to marry people of the same sex, including
accusations of beastiality and incest, there is no actual connection to these theories, only causing a
panic in our society, and allowing fear of what may be make the decision for these people s lives. My
goal today is to touch on some of these political issues with the gay marriage issue, and the onset of an
epidemic that may occur if they do allow

In the play Seven, the actors told the stories of their characters and opened our eyes on how much
abuse all these seven women went through. One by one took turns explaining their stories, not all at

Yet, the women showed courage and fought back for what they believed was right. The first thing that
I found very interesting was the walking around before the play even started. I wondered on what it

Trojan War Tactics
Analyse the effectiveness of the tactics used by both sides in the Trojan War.
____________________________________________________________
___
The Trojan war was a ten year siege on the city of the city of Troy at the hands of the Greek forces led
by a psychopathic king, Agamemnon. This conflict, which took place about 1200 B.C has become one
of the most well known Greek mythology events in history. In the 13th century B.C, Troy and Sparta
had stopped their wars and become allies, this was until Paris the youngest prince of Troy seduced
Helen, the Queen of Sparta and left with her back to Troy. When Menelaos (The King of Sparta) found
out what had happened, he vowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leaders would then come forward on their chariots and challenge each other to single combat.
This was a common method of warfare. It allows for true heroes to be shown and depicts the power of
the leaders.
The soldiers would enter the battle in chariots, launching javelins into the enemy formations, then
dismount for hand to hand combat with more javelin throwing, rock throwing, and hand to hand sword
and shield fighting. In the Iliad Homer also mentions the use of the phalanx formation being used by
the Greeks. The phalanx is a rectangular mass military formation, usually composed entirely of heavy
infantry armed with spears, pikes, or similar weapons . Scholars suggest that the Greeks would have
used this tactic because the alignment of shields minimises the chances of projectiles hitting the men,
and the men can move as one, strong unit.
In book 4 of Homer s Iliad, a major battle in the war is described in detail. After the armies have
gathered together all there available forces, they began to march towards each other. The Achaean
forces moved forward towards the Trojans covering the horizon with the sight of eminent war. As the
Greeks moved forward they unknowingly ventured into the range of the Trojan archers, who were
some of the finest in the known world. As the Greeks were held back by the range of the Trojan
archers, they were quickly losing men and morale so Agamemnon made the decision to withdraw

The Man That Was Used Up By Edgar Allan Poe
The concept of a man machine mixture was widespread in science fiction before World War II. As
early as 1843, Edgar Allan Poe described a man with extensive prostheses in the short story The Man
That Was Used Up . In 1911, Jean de la Hire introduced the Nyctalope, a science fiction hero who was
perhaps the first literary cyborg, in Le MystĂšre des XV (later translated as The Nyctalope on Mars).[7]
[8][9] Edmond Hamilton presented space explorers with a mixture of organic and machine parts in his
novel The Comet Doom in 1928. He later featured the talking, living brain of an old scientist, Simon
Wright, floating around in a transparent case, in all the adventures of his famous hero, Captain Future.
He uses the term explicitly in the 1962 short story, After a Judgment Day, to describe the mechanical
analogs called Charlies, explaining that [c]yborgs, they had been called from the first one in the
1960s...cybernetic organisms. In the short story No Woman Born in 1944, C. L. Moore wrote of
Deirdre, a dancer, whose body was burned completely and whose brain was placed in a faceless but
beautiful and supple mechanical body.
The term was coined by Manfred E. Clynes and Nathan S. Kline in 1960 to refer to their conception of
an enhanced human being who could survive in extraterrestrial environments:
For the exogenously extended organizational complex functioning as an integrated homeostatic
system unconsciously, we propose the term Cyborg . Manfred E. Clynes and

Why Is Richard Cory Wrong
In the poem Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, town members recall the frequent visits of a
high class man before his sudden suicide. As the town s people describe Richard Cory, they focus on
his reputation and all the ways he differs from them. This significantly contributes to his unhappiness
because the problem that he faces is the combination of both his discontent with his own status and
inability to fit in with the rest of society.
In the people s description of Richard Cory, they mention facts about his rank, which pertain to his
noble persona, but also reveals the things the town s people overlook:
And admirably schooled in every grace;
In fine, we thought that he was everything. (Robinson 39)

There is a distance that separates Richard Cory from the people in the town. The town s people
suggest this when they refer to themselves as we implying a unification or sense of community and
exclude Richard Cory with their use of him. They compare themselves to Richard Cory, and because
of the noticeable differences in their character, they do not regard him as an equal. Instead, they
consider him superior. They point this out when they explain that they think that he is everything. It is
significant that they do not simply belief that Richard Cory has everything, but that he is everything.
This is because it demonstrates that they regard Richard Cory s importance for not only the things he
possesses, but for who he is. The people describe his as everything because in comparison to
themselves they appear to have nothing. Richard Cory reminds them of all the things that they do not
have but wish they did. This makes it even more difficult for Richard Cory to blend in with the rest of
the town, as he wants. They would never understand how someone who they perceive to be so
privileged could want anything

Theme Of Tension In A Doll s House
In the play, A Doll s House, the juxtaposing placement of characters relative to doors creates tension
through separation and isolation; between the Helmers and the outside world, and within the Helmer
household. Throughout the play, the characters and stage directions relate the positioning of doors and
people to allow the audience to understand both the literal and figurative barriers between them. The
author, Henrik Ibsen, manipulates fully versus partially opened doors, movement through versus
stillness in doorways, and leaving the house versus already being outside to nonverbally communicate
the strain between characters.
Most apparently, the author makes a conscious choice between fully and partially opened doors to

When people stand outside they represent the segregation of the family from the outside world. Nora
describes Krogstad s actions as he puts the letter in the letter box and states that he is standing outside
(29). His lack of motion outside shows the division between the Helmers and the outside, through the
angst Nora has about his actions. When Rank stands outside he asks her if he can come in for a
moment he asks to enter the enclosed area of the home, emphasizing the division between the Helmers
and the outside world (37). Nora going between the house and the outside and within the house,
increases the tension between the family. Nora and Helmer finish their conversation, and he forgives
her, Nora then goes out from the room (41). With her departure, she shows that although Helmer has
forgiven her, a lack of trust still exists between them. At the very end of the play, Nora, goes out by the
hall door (45). At this time, she exits the house completely, showing the inability for reparation
between her and Helmer. Nora s actions of leaving both rooms and the house, signify the destruction
of the relationships within the

Towards the end of the War the airplane becomes a practical device of war being able to carry
weapons. Anthony Fokker and Louis Bleriot create the most successful of early modern biplanes
known as the D VII and D VIII. Biplanes are eventually taken over by the monoplane, or one wing.
This new design allowed for faster flight and better visibility for the pilot. Air cooled engines lead the
way for commercial aircraft, and Boeing introduces the first modern airliner the 247. Airplanes are
effected the greatest by supply and demand of war. New styles of war begun to emerge so did new and
improved types of aircraft. The population of the U.S. also begun to grow which leads to the modern
most sophisticated commercial airliner the 777. Most aircraft improvements are found in the military
and intelligence field. The most high tech aircraft known today for such things as spying are the SR 71
Blackbird, and the U 2 Spy plane. The most complicated and best aircraft performance is still held by
the space shuttle and probably always will be. The last 200 years have seen incredible changes in
aircraft from the man with wings to heavier than air flying machines that can travel at supersonic

The Renaissance comedy, Much Ado About Nothing , written by Shakespeare in 1600 during the
Elizabethan era, addresses male inconstancy and female persecution; how women are controlled by
the prevailing patriarchal system. Hero, the conventional heroine, is a shrinking violet , who suffers
character assassination through male actions. The Rover , written in 1677 for the Restoration society

Worse is to come in 4/2 when the masked Florinda hides in Blunt s lodgings from her brother. While
Wilmore is afforded drunken stupor as an excuse, Blunt s actions are motivated by misogynistic
revenge. Blunt s hatred for Lucetta the prostitute turns Florinda into an opportunity to wreak his
righteous revenge on womankind . Frederick s involvement also implicates the cavaliers behaviour as
he joins Blunt. Even Belvile s honourable status is doubted, Frederick referring to him as a cormorant

imagery to protect public tastes. The atmosphere becomes graver still as Florinda s brother ironically
wins the lottery using the length of their swords; an explicit phallic connotation, to take Florinda first.
Even the Restoration audience recognises Behn challenging male hypocrisies, by creating a situation
where the patriarchal protector himself is responsible for the loss of female virtue. The swiftness with
which Florinda accepts their apologies I heartily forgive you all provides the males, especially Blunt,

Mistrust And Opinion Between Members Of The Grand Alliance
Why did the foundations for mistrust and suspicion between the members of the Grand Alliance

In 1945 the war had been fought on one side by the nations of Great Britain, USA and USSR, the
members of the Grand Alliance achieved victory in WW2. It was more important than ever the
victorious powers remained united as they faced the enormous task of reconstructing war torn Europe.
However, as they sought to do this, their unity was already weakened by the existence of mistrust and

Knowing that Stalin approached a different aspect of leadership, with his dysfunctional personality

Separating Right and Wrong: Emmeline Pankhurst s Suffragette Movement
Women s suffrage has been one of the unsolved problems of the last two centuries. Today, many
countries constitutionalized women s right to vote; however there remain a few that outlaw it. This
ban resulted in women fighting for the right to vote in the 19th century, which gave birth suffrage
movements. While the suffragettes were emerging from all around the world, The United Kingdom
was the heart of the movement, with Emmeline Pankhurst as one of the main figures and she played a

quickly became epidemic. While there were many approaches in history for the same purpose, United
States, Ireland, Canada and many more women around the world adopted the methods of the
suffragettes to their own cause. The reason why the British suffragettes influenced so many other
women is explained in a research paper by Laura E. Nym Mayhall as ...Once the Liberal government
introduced forcible feeding as an antidote to the suffragette hunger strike, militants created a visual
activism, dependent upon the exhibition of women s tortured bodies as spectacle. By this account, the
activities of the WSPU became exemplary of what critic Barbara Green has called performative
activism and visibility politics in early twentieth century feminist praxis, creating almost entirely
feminine communities where women celebrated, suffered, spoke with, and wrote for other women,
and that allowed women to put themselves on display for other women. Many women in the 19th
century looked up to Emmeline Pankhurst, listened to her speeches, went to her propaganda walks and
adopted her methods and women in Britain gained the right to vote in 1928, for men and women over

Forgiveness Found in Poetry, Drama, and Fiction
Posed to reflect upon the three units of study this semester, consisting of Poetry, Drama, and Fiction to
ascertain which genre is the most significant in influencing me, I am perplexed to choose only one.
Remarkably, I found in each of the genres explored insightful and supportive content from each unit
that has enabled me to hone in and accept my humanity as a parent. Connecting with characters from
each genre brought about a significant awareness and sensitivity. Regardless of geographical location,
date in time, structure of society, gender, race, or age, it is refreshingly evident in the midst of all the
contrasts there is a commonality; we are all imperfect humans. Each genre enhanced my credence of

more significantly, for this reader, as parents. Parents attempt do what is felt to be right for their
children with well meant intentions. Unfortunately, this sometimes becomes more of a learning
process for the parents involving mistakes for which we need forgiveness. At times greater mercy is
required when our flawed human nature is revealed by our mistaken repetition of the mistake, which
can create a greater burden adding regret. I find myself sympathetically identifying with these
characters, as they too walk the bumpy road of when your best isn t good enough. Frequently while

Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 war film that was inspired from Enzo G. Casteralli s 1978 macaroni
combat film known as The Inglorious Bastards. It follows an alternative story to bring down the Third

The screenplay for the film was written in 1998, however, Tarantino struggled to bring the film to an

returned to the screenplay and was able to commence filming in Germany and France in 2008 with a

eventually discovers they re hiding under the floorboards. Shosanna flees towards the woods, barely
escaping the bullets with Landa yelling, Au revoir, Shosanna! Waltz s character, while being a Nazi
officer, is first perceived to be calm and well mannered in LaPadite s abode. The patience of his
character can be unnerving since some may expect him to be blunt and rude, yet he remains polite and
respectful while conversing with LaPadite. Landa maintains his facade for quite sometime until
LaPadite caves in and informs him the Jews are hiding under the floorboards, when all hell breaks
loose. Landa is a sinister character, nonchalantly manipulating his victims and pushing them to a
breaking point before unveiling his malicious

College Dropout Rates In America
Did you know, that according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 65.9% of students in America
who graduate high school attend college? Major evidence also reports that this may be due to financial
problems. I believe that college tuition prices should be lowered because they are already way too
high, college dropout rates are linked to financial problems, and the attendance rates are also suffering
due to finances. First of all, the cost to receive a higher education is very expensive. The ACS 1 Year
survey shows that the median family income for California in 2014, was $71,015. For our purposes,
we shall use the University of California at Los Angeles, as it is the most applied to university in all of
America. According to ucla.edu, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colleges, of course, can always host events or fundraisers. If lowering tuition becomes too much to
handle, colleges can always just provide extra financial aid for those who need it. As you can see, I
believe that college tuition costs should be lowered because they are just simply too expensive, and
they even affect their dropout and attendance rates in a negative way, all because the cost to enroll in a
higher education is too

Harvard Case Study Analysis
Harvard Case Review and Analysis
1. Jeff Immelt s strategies for GE were solid in a theoretical sense. The company should have been
delivering above average returns and seen all the positives that he preached about it. The reason this
did not happen and they faced some humiliation in 2008 until 2010 were due to GE Capital. Immelt
thought that they were diversified enough to survive the economic downturn. However this proved to
be wrong. In an interview for BusinessWeek magazine David Magee, author of Jeff Immelt and the
New GE Way, spoke on what was going wrong for GE. He believes that Immelt and GE did not
correctly predict how bad the financial downturn was going to be. By missing that their beliefs that
they were diversified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with what the analysts have said and that the most important thing for GE is to get their stock
prices back up. Immelt is trying to do so without selling GE Capital. I believe that in order to get their
prices back up they need to downsize GE Capital and have less money tied up in assets that are in this
very volatile market, especially real estate. This will help build confidence in investors that they will
not see huge losses if the economy takes another turn for the worst. Until that happens I do not see GE
getting back on track with Immelt s plans of growth and profit. 2. GE s corporate strategy is one of
moderate to high level of diversification. More specifically one that is related linked. Most people call
them a conglomerate or a company made up of very different companies all operating in different
industries. However GE s CEO Jeff Immelt sees it differently. He doesn t see a conglomerate he sees a
company that is diversified over many industries, but one that works together towards a common goal.
You can see that in the way that research and development in one of their industries is used to improve
their product or service in a different part of the company. By having all of these differentiated
industries working together under the name of GE they have been very successful company. Now the
situation is changing. People are seeing GE struggle especially GE Capital. To make

The Negative Effects Of COPPA On Children
45% of teens have lied about their age to get a social media account. Children s Online Privacy
Protection Act or COPPA, is the restrictions that keep minors under 13 from getting an email, social
media, and other accounts. Censorship is the exclusion or withholding of information, so COPPA is
technically censorship, because it limits and withholds information from sites and children. COPPA
limits the information that sites can collect from children under 13 , and has successfully limited
information collection and has had multiple violations. COPPA keeps children s information safe and
from being released to websites. COPPA applies to all sites that collect information. Information
including Social Security numbers, addresses, and email addresses, as well as other information ...

In 2008, Sony BMG Music Entertainment agreed to pay money after collecting information from at
least 30,000 children. An article on the case states that, it had collected personal information from at
least 30,000 children on nearly 200 entertainment sites (Banks 1), clearly showing a violation of
COPPA by collecting the information. COPPA protects the privacy of children, ensuring a peace of

Ot Analysis of Aviation Industry
CHEPTER 6: OT ANALYYSIS OF AVIATION INDUSTRY
The past year has been one of change for corporate travel and the airline industry, and nearly every
corporate travel program has been affected. For some, these effects have been positive; leading to
lower air travel prices, but for others the effect has been negative, resulting in travel restrictions and
budget cuts. Regardless, for many companies now is the time to start rebuilding travel programs
through negotiations or sourcing projects, with the intent of improving savings and reducing costs in
the years ahead.

The number of women joining aviation sector is on the r ise. From one or two women in a batch of
100 students, the number has now increased to 10 or 12. Indian currently has 76 women pilots, and the
number is rising with ever y new batch. As per the statistics, forty of. Kingfisher, which has 26 women
from a total of 390 pilots, also got its first woman captain just recently. Even though more and more
women are opting for this career, the shortage still continues. Due to this paucity of pilots, airlines in
India are largely dependent on expatriate pilots. The job opportunities include that of flight
dispatchers, cabin crew, airline managers, airport manager s, and ground handling personnel, the
industry would create 2,00,000 jobs by 2017.

THREATS FOR AVIATION INDUSTRY:
A global economic downturn negatively affects leisure, optional travel, as well as business travel.
The price of fuel is now the greatest cost for many airlines. An upward spike can destabilize the

Argumentative Essay On The Causes Of Autism
There have been many institutes questioned, such as the Institute of Medicine, the Centers for Disease
Control, and the Food and Drug Administration. These agencies have found no linkage between
vaccines and autism. These agencies have conducted thousands of studies and have found no proof
that autism can be blamed on a child s immunizations. Opponents of these studies would like parents
of autistic children to believe that the results have been influenced. Some groups would like the rest of
us to believe that the government and the drug companies are influencing the outcome of the reports.
The Measles Mumps and Rubella vaccine receives the most study, this is because the link between the
vaccine and the onset of many children having autistic symptoms. This link may be just a coincidence.
The time most children receive their measles mumps and rubella shot is around three or four years of
age the same time many parents suggest that their child starts

having autistic symptoms or behaviors. People on both sides of the autism and vaccine debate want a
clear answer to the question WHAT Causes Autism? Many parents think that medical studies are not
asking the correct questions about autism. In a study, done by phone in 2007, parents were contacted if
they had children between the ages of four and 17. The survey done by Generation Rescue they
compared rates of autism and other neurological disorder in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sadly, there is NO cure for autism. It requires structure, routine, and patience s. Each child that
receives the diagnosis of autism is different and will have different needs that must be met and
understood. With that being said there is no cure all or one size fits all treatment. Treatment like
autism is very different from one person to the next. No two people with autism will act, look, or react
in the same way. Just like their treatment will differ from person to person. (Ezine

The Poetry of e.e. cummings Essay The Poetry of e.e. cummings The poems to come are for you and for me and are not for most people. it s no use trying to pretend that mostpeople and ourselves are alike. Mostpeople have less in common with ourselves than the squarerootofminusone. You and I are human beings;mostpeople are snobs. Take the matter of being born. What does being born mean to mostpeople? Catastrophe unmitigated. Socialrevolution. The cultured aristocrat yanked out of his hyperexclusively ultravoluptuous superpalazzo, and dumped into an incredibly vulgar detentioncamp swarming with every conceivable species of undesirable organism. They miss his satirical views, his beautiful observations, and his skillful choice of words. This lack of respect for the importance of individual words prompted Cummings attack of most people. His bitterness is directly related to his struggle to get this particular collection of poetry his seventh published. Edward Estlin Cummings has always had an affinity for language. Early in life he penned a couplet, which illustrates his reliance on the power of simple observation: O, the pretty birdie, O; with his little toe, toe, toe! (Norman, 1958, p. 26) This appreciation for one s ability to observe and interpret was influenced by Cummings upbringing. Born on October 14, 1894, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Edward Estlin had the gift of caring, intelligent, progressive parents. His father, Edward, graduated from Harvard in 1883, with a degree in philosophy. He then studied at Oxford, with the Reverend Samuel A. Barnett and Professor Estlin Carpenter (who made enough of an impression on the young Edward to cause him to choose to name his son after him.) Edward Cummings went on to teach political economy and sociology at Harvard until 1900. His instruction was praised with the following commendation: As a teacher at Harvard he was human, alert, and stimulating (Norman, p. 17). These attributes would eventually ... • 3. Fast Foods And Fast Food Fast food, by name itself is the food that consumes comparatively less amount of time to be prepared than the food that we order from the restaurants. They are preheated and precooked which is served to customer in a packaged form or take away. Fast foods are the most common food these days and these restaurants are growing rapidly worldwide. People of all ages love fast food and it is more popular among young people. The important reasons for this business to grow are the busy schedule people have today. Fast food saves a lot of time and is providing employment to large number of people. In contrary to that, it is unhealthy, and people are gaining weight constantly. Fast food saves a lot of time. It is easier to cook and faster to deliver to the people. I have always been thankful to fast food restaurants whenever I am late to work or I am not able to cook food for me. For instance, in fast foods like McDonalds, Subway, Chipotle and so on, it does not even take 5 minutes to make an order the food. Unlike, if we go to dine in restaurants they take a lot of time to make an order and then bring it to the guest. It almost takes s 45 minutes to finish eating after I get to the restaurants. If I calculate the time, fast food is saving 5 hours and 25 minutes a week, which is a plenty of time. Similarly, the most common and famous facility that the fast food restaurants are having these days is the drive thru facilities. It is very helpful to the people with busy routine. In this ... • 5. Life Changing Experience In Life For many, a life changing moment comes in the form of a tragedy or a hard earned revelation. Mine came in the form of a five year old girl named Sofia. Sofia spent most of her time in the oncology ward of the hospital where I volunteered. Her days consisted of sterile hospital rooms, scans, and chemotherapy. She was losing her hair because of chemo when most girls her age were learning how to braid theirs. She played with a doll (Mr. Buttons) in her hospital room instead of playing with other children. Sofia wasn t lonely in the traditional sense. Family, friends, and even strangers visited the little girl, but could barely interact with her. Most of the time, she was too tired to play and, when she finally mustered the energy, she found herself behind a glass panel. The doctors thought it best to keep Sofia isolated, to minimize her chances of falling ill in her already feeble condition. And, indeed, this is how I interacted with Sofia for a month. Week after week, hour after hour, I d go to the glass wall to see if she had awoken and would spend an hour that felt like seconds, playing with her. I suppose that s relativity for you. Sofia was both the highlight and heartbreak of my week. Comments like, Poor thing and It s just not fair were heard as often as the incessant beeping of the monitors. Talk is cheap, and pity doesn t make progress. I had to do something. It is very rare to come across an opportunity to make a fundamental change in the lives of thousands. I ... • 7. The Application Of The Patent System Intellectual Property Midterm Question #2 The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has the opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in order to allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate profits that reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate their inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent licensing, whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company legitimately uses has been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive patent holders that initiate frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt companies, for the sole purpose of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually creating new products. Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in high technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has not been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued are for advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling patent trolling. Some companies aggressively assert their patent portfolios to prevent competitors from entering the market. Small companies are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The universal human rights has become apparent in the international system, and has become the basis of drafting the UDHR. The universal human rights states all humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. This phrase has guaranteed and protected the human rights of all human beings without any distinction. However, the universal notion of human rights has initiated controversy among many critiques. Some have argued that the Declaration was another way of Western imperialism because the idea has adopted western philosophical and political principles. This has instigated the rise of cultural relativism, which claimed that every culture has specific beliefs and perspectives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (a) The universalists conceptualize rights as a special narrow category of rights based on a universal notion of the inherent dignity of human beings and human rights claims are morally justified demands to rectify injustice (Lecture 2). Human rights ensure that all human beings have these inherent dignity and rights. The universalism puts more emphasis on the individual rights to impede states from violation of these rights, winning over state sovereignty. The tension of this approach is the rise of cultural legitimacy, claiming that rights are relative and culture are important to non Western states to make international human rights feasible. The cultural relativists recognize that every culture has specific world view, with its own notion of good and noble paths, its own notion of how to be a full human (Lecture 2). To non Western countries that highly values and emphasizes cultural heritage and traditions in daily life, the concept of human rights is redefined into a more local context that fits their culture. As An Na im puts it, the violations of human rights take place due to the lack of cultural legitimacy of human rights standards (2009: 68). Culture is significant to address and respect the different ideas of human rights among different culture and to make the non western countries more familiar with human rights. (b) An Na im is opposed to the universality of human rights and favors the cultural relativist of human rights. He argues that the observance of human rights standards can be improved through the enhancement of the cultural legitimacy of those standards (An Na im 2009: 69). He emphasizes the importance of cross cultural legitimacy (An Na im 2009: 69) to develop human rights through the interpretation of different cultural norms. He further asserts that universalism is based on ethnocentricity and cultural diversity is unavoidable (An Na im 2009: 72,77). He loves the rhythm and rimes that are those books. One of his favorites is Green Eggs and Ham. Seth has begun to answer the questions of Sam, answering him for the other character saying he does not like green eggs and ham . It caught my attention that some of the Psalms also have a repetitive nature. Psalm 119 is the longest of all the Psalms and is very repetitive. Many people only read one section of the Psalm because of the repetitive nature and do not look at the chapter as a whole. There is a lack of churches teaching on the Psalms and some a not reading them at all. Psalm 119 is more than a long repetitive Psalm, reading it as one passage there is evidence of determination by the author to show why following the Lord s teaching is vital to life as a Christian. The second section is 119:33 40 and this will show that God is our teacher and one way to learn is to follow God s instructions. Does bravery increase with age or is a person less likely to stand for what is right because they have more at stake? Depending on the driver s circumstances in life, needs and price range, the answer to this question can vary. While Honda Accords and Honda Civics are grouped together as sedans, there are actually a number of differences between the two vehicles. Size Matters The most obvious difference between an Accord and a Civic is the size. In 1982, Honda introduced the Accord as their first vehicle in the Untied States. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Honda Accord gets 27 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles on highways. Meanwhile, the Honda Civic gets 31 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallons for highway driving. Due to this, the Civic is an ideal vehicle for commuters who have to drive long distances to get to work every day. The continuously variable transmission and responsive steering make it easier to navigate through traffic. For extra room, choose the Accord. This model is ideal for car shoppers who want to have comfortable seating and a lot of space. The lower gas mileage makes it less suited for commuting, although it would be extremely comfortable to drive in over long distances. According to Ovid s translation, after seeing the Propoetides prostituting themselves in public for their defiance against the gods, he became uninterested in women; however his statue was so beautiful and realistic that he fell in love with it. After a short time, Aphrodite s festival day came, and Pygmalion made several offerings at the shrine of Aphrodite. Pygmalion was too scared to admit his true desire at the altar, so he quietly wished for a bride who would be the living likeness of my ivory girl . The author shows his feminist side as he has Eliza stand up for her self and break out of the traditional position of women in the era. This brings a very feminist, free thinking theme to the play that challenges the audience to break the usual traditions of England s segregated, unofficial caste system of a society. In Shaw s display against inequality and sexism, there is another theme that must be kept in mind. When thinking about how to achieve equality between the sexes, it has to be taken into consideration that true equality does not necessarily come from being treated equally. In order for equality to be achieved, we must feel equal to one another. This feeling comes from making the effort to meet the needs of all people so that they can reach a point in life where they feel dignified, and feel as though they have the ability and the will power to work to raise themselves up in society. Often government keeps pushing the issue back, or refuses to partake in the debates and discussions on whether or not this type of union is legal in the United States. My hope with this paper is to prove that gay marriage is not in fact unconstitutional, but that there is a right to freedom for everyone, no exclusions. When it comes to gay marriage, there seem to be a number of contributing factors that weigh in on the decisions made on the acceptance of gay marriage, most of which seem to be religious, but can also be very heavily weighed on political views. Though religion and politics should not intermingle and be the determining factor on whether or not people should have the right lo to love and marry whomever they see fit, they do play a major role on the gay community, and their own life decisions. Of course there all sorts of different theories on what could happen if the United States government allows for the gay community to marry people of the same sex, including accusations of beastiality and incest, there is no actual connection to these theories, only causing a panic in our society, and allowing fear of what may be make the decision for these people s lives. It allows for true heroes to be shown and depicts the power of the leaders. The soldiers would enter the battle in chariots, launching javelins into the enemy formations, then dismount for hand to hand combat with more javelin throwing, rock throwing, and hand to hand sword and shield fighting. In the Iliad Homer also mentions the use of the phalanx formation being used by the Greeks. The phalanx is a rectangular mass military formation, usually composed entirely of heavy infantry armed with spears, pikes, or similar weapons . Scholars suggest that the Greeks would have used this tactic because the alignment of shields minimises the chances of projectiles hitting the men, and the men can move as one, strong unit. As early as 1843, Edgar Allan Poe described a man with extensive prostheses in the short story The Man That Was Used Up . In 1911, Jean de la Hire introduced the Nyctalope, a science fiction hero who was perhaps the first literary cyborg, in Le MystĂšre des XV (later translated as The Nyctalope on Mars).[7] [8][9] Edmond Hamilton presented space explorers with a mixture of organic and machine parts in his novel The Comet Doom in 1928. He later featured the talking, living brain of an old scientist, Simon Wright, floating around in a transparent case, in all the adventures of his famous hero, Captain Future. He uses the term explicitly in the 1962 short story, After a Judgment Day, to describe the mechanical analogs called Charlies, explaining that [c]yborgs, they had been called from the first one in the 1960s...cybernetic organisms. In the short story No Woman Born in 1944, C. L. Moore wrote of Deirdre, a dancer, whose body was burned completely and whose brain was placed in a faceless but beautiful and supple mechanical body. They point this out when they explain that they think that he is everything. It is significant that they do not simply belief that Richard Cory has everything, but that he is everything. This is because it demonstrates that they regard Richard Cory s importance for not only the things he possesses, but for who he is. The people describe his as everything because in comparison to themselves they appear to have nothing. Richard Cory reminds them of all the things that they do not have but wish they did. After finishing Death Proof (2007), Tarantino returned to the screenplay and was able to commence filming in Germany and France in 2008 with a budget of $70,000,000. The film turned out to be Tarantino s highest grossing film up until Django: Unchained (2012), making it his second. Shosanna flees towards the woods, barely escaping the bullets with Landa yelling, Au revoir, Shosanna! Waltz s character, while being a Nazi officer, is first perceived to be calm and well mannered in LaPadite s abode. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree with what the analysts have said and that the most important thing for GE is to get their stock prices back up. Immelt is trying to do so without selling GE Capital. I believe that in order to get their prices back up they need to downsize GE Capital and have less money tied up in assets that are in this very volatile market, especially real estate. This will help build confidence in investors that they will not see huge losses if the economy takes another turn for the worst. Until that happens I do not see GE getting back on track with Immelt s plans of growth and profit. 2. GE s corporate strategy is one of moderate to high level of diversification. More specifically one that is related linked. Most people call them a conglomerate or a company made up of very different companies all operating in different industries. However GE s CEO Jeff Immelt sees it differently. He doesn t see a conglomerate he sees a company that is diversified over many industries, but one that works together towards a common goal. You can see that in the way that research and development in one of their industries is used to improve their product or service in a different part of the company. By having all of these differentiated industries working together under the name of GE they have been very successful company. Now the situation is changing. People are seeing GE struggle especially GE Capital. To make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
