Responsibility In Virgil s Ceres And Dido
Ceres and Dido each possess great power and authority, but their depictions by Ovid and Virgil
establish an inaccurate sense of weakness. As women, they are characterized as adversaries to the
male idea of power and strength. Though they are queens and goddesses, they are unequal to their
male counterparts simply due to their sex. Each of these women fall victim to the oppressiveness of
their respective patriarchal societies. Even though Ceres and Dido, in adherence to gender roles, are
devoted mothers and lovers, respectively. Their love is only met with pain and agony. Dido allows her
burning desire for Aeneas to distract her from her duties, and Ceres is brought to a crippled state
because Dis has stolen her daughter. In both Virgil s The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Dis abducts her daughter, she appeals to Jove, but faces great injustice and inequality. Jove does
not attempt to empathize with the grieving mother, but instead chooses to lecture her. Though she is a
most powerful goddess, she must humble herself in his presence. Aware of the dynamic, she appeals to
his masculine dominance and says, ...if you have no regard for her mother, relent as her father don t
hold her unworthy, I beg you, simply because I am the child s other parent! (V. 687 689). This self
degradation is a notable contrast from the fierceness Ceres demonstrates only moments before. As an
autonomous goddess, she reeks havoc in her rage, but in the presence of a male counterpart, she must
subdue her rage. She hides her true emotions and submits to the male dominated world she lives in.
Instead of respecting Ceres for her humility, Jupiter almost mocks her concerns and exclaims ...how
much it is to be Jove s brother! (V.702). Desperate for his aid, Ceres has no response and must tolerate
his insincerity. Although Ceres is a powerful goddess, it is almost irrelevant because her might and
fortitude are minimized by Jove s haughtiness. But, her capacity to temper her emotions indicate a
power all of its own. This control is in fact, far more impressive than Jove s excessive

Determining the Need for a Study
VALUE MANAGEMENT
Determining the Need for a Study
In broad terms, the factors that underpin the decision to initiate a value management study are the
potential for savings from managing the large number of stakeholder interfaces, the complexity of the
project or the innovative nature of the project. The goals may be to overcome a difficult problem, to
achieve project acceleration, to overcome interfacing problems, to develop or improve a brief, to meet
statutory requirements, to provide rigorous review or audit, to improve value for money and/ or to
develop/ review design options (Best, R. and de Valence, G., 1999, p.240)
Timing
Value management studies have application at all phases of the asset life cycle, covering planning,
procurement, maintenance and management, and disposal. A value management study may be initiated
at any of the following stages of the project life cycle.
The greatest potential saving is possible at the earliest stage in the project life cycle. Both the study
objectives and the mix of stakeholders in the workshop group are determined by the particular phase
at which the study is conducted. It is important that the use of value management is planned well
ahead so that the study or studies are conducted in good time so that maximum benefit can be
achieved.
Initiation Criteria
There are number of initiation criteria discussed below. These provide the necessary justification for
commissioning a value management study.
Because of the potential for

Community Health in the Event of a Sars Outbreak Essay
Community Health in the Event of a SARS Outbreak The SARS Outbreak of 2003 SARS (Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is a respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, originally reported in
Asia in February 2003 and spread to over two dozen countries before being contained (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2005). Once infected, individuals with SARS initially develop
a high fever and other flu like symptoms including headache, body aches and overall feeling of
discomfort before, in most cases, progressing to pneumonia (CDC, 2005). The disease was first
diagnosed in a middle aged man who had flown from China to Hong Kong. A few days after the
announcement of the disease, rumors and panic began to spread, causing ... Show more content on

14). Routes of Transmission In the laboratory setting, the virus was found in respiratory droplets,
feces, saliva, tears and urine (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). SARS is primarily spread through close, personal
contact, such as kissing, hugging, eating or drinking, as well as being within 3 feet of a person who
coughs or sneezes while infected and shedding the virus. These activities allow the respiratory
droplets shed during these activities to come in contact with mucous membranes found in the eyes,
nose and mouth (Kutsar, 2004). Other modes of transmission include aerosolizing procedures in
hospital settings and contamination of surfaces in healthcare facilities, households and other closed
environments (Kutsar, 2004, para. 12). There has been no confirmation of fecal oral transmission or of
transmission via water or food; however, over one third of the earliest cases in China were among
food handlers (Kutsar, 2004). Finally, there is a possibility of animal vector transmission, as discussed
in regards to the Hong Kong s Amoy Gardens (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). Effect of Outbreak on
Community The SARS outbreak caused major effects on the communities affected. Based on the 2003
outbreak, one can assume similar issues would develop should the disease recur. The biggest impact to
communities affected would be the strain on the healthcare system. Since SARS is a largely
respiratory disease, it can cause very serious problems in the patients infected, requiring

Five Cinematic Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window
In Rear Window, by Alfred Hitchcock, Jeff, a photographer in New York City, breaks his leg while
trying to take a photo at an auto race and gets stuck in his apartment until his leg heals. To pass the
time, Jeff spies on his neighbors with his photo lenses. However, while in the process of spying on his
neighbors, the Thorwalds, he suspects that a gruesome murder may have taken place in the household.
In Rear Window, Hitchcock creates a suspenseful tone by utilizing five cinematic terms: sound effects,
zoom shot, reaction shot, symbol, and point of view. In the beginning of Rear Window, while Jeff is
spying on his neighbors, he hears the melodious piano keys of a fun loving composer, the sweet
nothings of newlyweds, and the bickering of the Thorwalds, a middle aged married couple.
Immediately, the audience senses that something is not right with the Thorwalds, when Hitchcock
juxtaposes the sweet sound of the neighbors with the Thorwald s constant squabbling. Thus,
Hitchcock uses sound effects to make the viewer question the relationship of the Thorwalds, and
creates a suspenseful tone with the Thorwald s constant bickering. As the movie Rear Window
progresses, Jeff notices that something funny is going on in the Thorwald s ... Show more content on

Thorwald s body is hiding beneath the soil. However, after the search for Mrs. Thorwald s body failed,

ring. Mrs. Thorwald s wedding ring is symbolic because it represented the symbol of Mr. and Mrs.

how a symbol of love, a wedding ring, can also be a symbol of downfall. Hitchcock also uses this

This paper explores an advertisement found in March 2015 edition of Nylon Guys magazine (page
13), for denim apparel falling under the Buffalo David Bitton (BDB) brand. In the advertisement,
Adrian Grenier, a celebrity best known for his lead role in the TV series Entourage, endorses BDB s
denim apparel, wearing their jeans and a denim jacket. BDB was founded in 1985 in Montreal and
today it is an industry leader offering denim clothing in 18 countries and spanning 3000 locations
throughout the world. In North America the brand can be found in many department stores, including
the Hudson s bay company, Bloomingdales and Macy s. The brand appeals to fashion savvy men and
women aged 18 34 who are innovators seeking effortless style as well as substance. Given this
orientation, Grenier is an ideal celebrity for an advertising endorsement. The American comedy drama
television series Entourage, which concluded in 2011 after eight seasons, chronicles Grenier as
Vincent Chase as he ventures into Los Angeles California as an enviable celebrity along with some of
his childhood friends. The role Grenier plays is quite fitting as he exudes laid back confidence as a
ladies man and the clear leader of his friend group. Interestingly, not only is Grenier a celebrity for
playing Vincent Chase, but the character Vincent Chase within the show is a celebrity looking for
movie roles. Grenier thereby owns two separate layers of celebrity image by virtue of one character. In

The Battle Of Power Over The Galaxy
In the year 3015 two big name pirate clans took the galaxy by storm as they made smaller and weaker
clans kneel before them. The names of these clans are Galactic Patriots and Supernova Spacehawks.
Of course they were enemies and their true goals were to annihilate one another before the gained too
much power, that day will come but for now I will tell you the story of what seemed like a victory and
only lead to failure. The rivalries have been long lived not just between the Galactic Patriots and the
Supernova Spacehawks but with the other clans as well. Every year there s a battle for power over the
galaxy typically clans that have done well before have a better chance of winning. The ones who have
won power the most are the Milky Way Steelers with 6 years won, the Asteroid Cowboys and the
Zenith 49ers both with 5 years won. Of course there are other clans who have won, but not as
successfully as these ones. To get to the top position they have to fight sector leaders and in this case
the Galactic Patriots had to fight the Nebula Ravens to gain control of their sector. The Supernova
Spacehawks on the other hand had to fight the Lightspeed Panthers to gain control. Then the they
would have to go on and fight everyone who took control of their sectors and fight for their system
which means the Galactic Patriots had to fight the Blazar Colts for control and the Supernova
Spacehawks had to fight the Megaparsec Packers and for control. The Patriots and the Spacehawks

Mass Media Influence
Does mass media influence human lives so greatly that a self inflicted 48 hour free period from the
influences of mass media such as television, social media, internet, recorded and live music such as
the radio, could have a measurable effect? As my personal journey into this experiment is laid out the
conclusion will become clear. Through removing forms of mass media such as radio, television,
internet and newspapers I have learned that indeed mass media is not easy to get away from, and it has
a deep impact on mood, response, and critical thought processes. Through a 48 hour period, I
consciously chose to remove all mass media influence, such as social media, television, radio and
recorded music, and in doing thus have come to some rather startling conclusions about the severe and
often silent effect that mass media can have on our lives. This was a rather difficult task as most
people never take the time to consider where and how mass media influences our daily lives, and how
deep the impact can be. The escape from radio is difficult, the desire to lose oneself in television after
a hard day is overwhelming and the sheer amount that we rely on social media is harder still to
understand unless you do without it for a lengthy period. While staying clear of these forms of
obvious mass media such as overt advertisements, or Facebook seemed easy enough, though one can
never be prepared to cope with the interruption of the thought processes and mood changes that
accompany this

The Use of Creative Color Throughoutout F. Scott...
F. Scott Fitzgerald creatively utilizes colors throughout his novel, The Great Gatsby, not only to
provide the reader with a rich visual image of the scene taking place, but also to convey certain
symbols within the story. To begin with, one must understand what each color symbolizes. Green
symbolizes hope, blue symbolizes illusion, red means violence or love, yellow illustrates wealth or
death, white is innocence, and gray or black symbolizes corruption. The reader can see that color
symbolism is used to characterize Tom Buchanan. Another character, Daisy Buchanan, is also
associated with a few different colors. The usage of colors in The Great Gatsby conveys many
ideas―personalities of the characters, foreshadowing, events in the story, ... Show more content on

After Myrtle s death, a pink light is shown from Daisy s window at her home―showing how violence
has been mixed into Daisy s innocent character. Another character, Jordan Baker, is also associated
with color within the novel. Jordan Baker is a friend of Daisy Buchanan s and a relatively famous golf
player. At the beginning of the novel, Jordan is described as having gray eyes, so the reader can
assume first hand that she must be associated with some kind of corruption. Later on in the novel, the
reader finds that Jordan was accused of cheating during a golf tournament―which is likely the cause
of why Jordan is associated with being corrupt: At her first big golf tournament there was...a
suggestion that she had moved her ball from a bad lie in the semi final round. The thing approached
the proportions of a scandal―then died away (57). Therefore, the reader may understand why
corruption is symbolized by Jordan s gray eyes from this quote. Like Daisy, Jordan is also associated
with wealth―and this is mostly conveyed in her slender golden arm (43) and yellow hair. She is
famous for her golf career, and shows up to Gatsby s party, which is why she must be associated with
wealth and high status. Therefore, color is a very prominent aspect of F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel The
Great Gatsby. Daisy is most often associated

Health Insurance System In Canada
Health care is primarily a constitutional, provincial government obligation in Canada (the key
exceptions staying federal government obligation for services supplied to aboriginal peoples covered
by treaties, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the armed forces, and members of parliament).
Consequently, each province administers its very own health insurance system. The federal

Oregon Territory Research Paper
The United States currently occupies around thirty seven percent of North America, but how has this
prosperous country expanded so fast in the last three centuries? The US is currently one of the largest
countries in the world and the second largest in North America. Though most Americans know about
the original Thirteen Colonies, several of them might have trouble trying to list another major affair
through which the United States has expanded westward. Many battles and fights have caused the
borders of the United States and the states and territories of the land now deemed to the United States

the current size it is.
The United States was started as thirteen colonies that were originated from settlers who decided that
they wanted religious freedom instead of being forced to remain a menial outsider to the large
European religions. These territories eventually banded together and via the Treaty of Paris 1873
retained their independence from Europe and were finally recognized by several European countries

The Shame of the Nation by Jonathan Kozol
I. Analysis of the mechanics of the book. If anyone in the United States were asked, What is the best
part about living in this country?, most people would answer equality . The United States is built on
and known for the equality among its citizens and is often referred to as the melting pot . After reading
Jonathan Kozol s, The Shame of the Nation, equality is nonexistent within the schools he has gone to,
and has been employed through. With his travels, expert testimony and personal stories gathered from
the people within the community and schools, he shows the exact opposite of equality. Minority
schools being his main focus, he discusses the inequalities these students endure and truly opens up
your eyes to just how awful these minority schools have it. Jonathan Kozol is successful in his writing
of The Shame of the Nation, and makes himself a voice for these minority schools that are denied of
their voices. The way Kozol chooses to organize his book is very effective. It has a topical way of
organization with a touch of chronological usage through the book. Instead of just starting right into
his points that he strives to make, he begins the book with a little history about himself and how he
ended up in the position of traveling to these different schools. This is extremely necessary to the
book, without it the reader would have no idea as to why he chose to do his observations and how he
came to love what he does. Knowing that he has the experience of teaching

How Did Ancient Egyptomania Affect The Modern World
Egyptomania; the expression used to encompass the West s complete allure with the wonders and

Western societies. Inquest into the mysteries of the land have sprung up from Hellenistic times, to the

I Am A Taiwanese American
Speaking of unique aspects about me as an individual, I would say that nothing can be more valuable
and meaningful than my international experiences. My academic background, academic discipline and
my personality are in fact closely related because of these valued experiences; they allowed me to
learn and to explore various cultures, to expand and to broaden my knowledge and vision beyond
mediocrity, to form and to shape my personality and most importantly to know who I am and who I
want to be.
First of all, I am a Taiwanese American from Dallas, but I ve also been raised in several different
places than where I come from, including China, Spain and the UK. Having lived in these places made
me both culturally and socially diverse. On one hand, I ve experienced different educational systems,
food, languages and knowledge about different ways of living; on the other hand, I ve learned how to
quickly adjust into new environments and thus interact with people from all over the world.
Among my international experiences, I especially value the two month study abroad in Spain. I chose
to go there because of my interest in Spanish language and culture that was originally developed
through a four week Spanish beginner workshop during the summer break prior to my study abroad
trip. In Spain, I lived mainly in Salamanca, a small old city in northwestern Spain, which was declared
as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to my parents, who had the confidence and trust to let me

Ensuring that every citizen has access to an affordable education system; to water and food and a safe
place to sleep. But because this system is still very new, and with limited amounts of money available
the development takes its time. So in summery a welfare state is a concept of government in which the
state plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the economic and social well being of its
citizens. It is based on the principles of equality of opportunity, equitable distribution of wealth, and
public responsibility for those unable to avail themselves of the minimal provisions for a good life. (4)
As we can see this explanation of a welfare state again reflects many of the ANCs key values and
mission statements.
Other Ideologies such as socialism also implementing their ideas into the current ANC principles and
the way the ANC interacts with the community. Ideas such as uniting people together through the
ANC Youth League, Sport Clubs, Holiday camps and many other community building elements.
Further on fraternity and social quality (as discussed above) feed into socialism and what comes with
it.
Another (from my point of view) big part in our current government system plays communism. Where
the large orientation seems to come from a mix of ideologies of orthodox Marxism infused with
Leninism. Which should not be mistaken for the old USSR government system, which was ruled by a
single dictator Joseph Stalin (1878 1953). In

Personality Tests And Personality Test
Personality plays an important role in very expect of our lives. Our job, relationship, career, income
everything has a connection between our personalities. It works like a wall for an individual so the
individual cannot go beyond this particular characteristics. There are 16 types of common personality
which can be described based on only four letters preferences. Two authors named duo Katharine
Cooks Briggs and Isabelle Myers Briggs explained different personality test which is supposed to tell
you if you are introverted or extraverted, intuitive or sensing, thinking or feeling and perceptive or
judgmental. For example, Each combination such as ISFJ or ESTP or ENTP represents different
characteristics, behaviors and preferences. I have taken the test to identify my four letter profile in
three different ways. On the first time it was ISFP meaning (). But on the second and third time it
turned into ISFJ. So I have granted ISFJ as my granted profile. The result shows many interesting
facts about me. It suggested that I am 41% Introvert, 31% Sensing, 41% Feeling and only 16%
Judging. It means I have moderate preference of Introversion over Extraversion, moderate preference
of Sensing over Intuition, moderate preference of Feeling over Thinking and a slight preference of
Judging over Perceiving. The interesting fact is that I can not deny these facts about me. And it is good
to know that Mother Teresa was of the same type as me. ISFJs are one of the two types

Aspect: Aspect grammatical category of verbs denotes the flow of time related to the event they
express. Unlike tense that is semantically rather related to the event in time, aspect is about time
moving through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for example, I walked and I was
walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that happened in a certain point in the
past while the second viewed with an emphasis on the temporal sense of the event over which it
happened. Distinctions can be made between perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the
two and appearance is different among languages. For example, Mandarin Chinese offers two
perfective markers; le and guo. However, in English, perfective aspect forms are those verbs in the
simple form like read, ate, walk... and imperfective forms are progressive forms such as am walking,
was reading, were eating... It is crucial to understand that the completion or duration of the event does
not distinguish between perfective and imperfective aspect because both can be expressed by either
form. For, example, the use of struggled in the sentence Ali struggled during his fourth round clearly
shows that the perfective form can be used to express an event that happened over a period of time.

Argumentative Speech On The National Anthem
Malcolm Jenkins, safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, supported Kaepernick s message but said, My
grandfather served [in the military]. And this is a country that I love. So, me not standing for the
national anthem isn t really going to get me the results that I want. Therefore, Athletes who refuse to
stand for the national anthem should receive a consequence. For instance, they should get fined or
possibly suspended for a few games.
Refusing to stand for the National Anthem shows disrespect to the flag members of armed forces. For
example, The national anthem pays respect to the people who have risked their lives, been injured, or
died defending the US. Without a doubt, this is 100% true because why should someone be able to
take a knee and disrespect the flag when people risked their lives for us to be free. Yes, that s what the
flag represents but people should never bite the hand that feeds you.The writer of the national anthem
sated, it just blows my mind that somebody like (kaepernick) would do what he does to dishonor the
flag of this country and the national anthem when we have young men and women overseas fighting
for this country, that people have died for. I agree with the evidence stated because I feel like everyone
should pay their respects to everyone who fought for the flag. I understand that you aren t supportive
of the National anthem but I feel as if there s another way you can protest. That s not as disrespectful
for instance, taking a knee before or after the national anthem. Lastly, the New Orleans quarterback,
supported Kaepernick s message but disagreed with the delivery: It s and oxymoron that you re sitting
down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out. As this being stated I agree
with the New Orleans Quarterback because, again there is another way to protest and at least be smart
about what you re doing.
Not standing for the national anthem is an ineffective and counterproductive way to promote a cause.
For instance, Football coach of Clemson University states I don t think it s good to be a distraction to
your team.. I don t think it s good to use your team as the platform. With this being stated he s saying
why be so worried about taking a

Lakota (Sioux) Indians and Creation Essay
The Lakota Indians, are sometimes known as the Sioux, but they call themselves the Lakota, which is
translated as friend or ally in their native tongue. Their description of themselves make sense when
looking at their seven virtues that they live by, These are Wóčhekiye (Prayer), Wóohola (Respect),
Wówauŋšila (Compassion), Wówičakȟe (Honesty), Wówačhaŋtognaka (Generosity), Wówaȟwala
(Humility) and Wóksape (Wisdom) ( Lakota Today ). A culture s idea of the most importance qualities
a good person should have gives a good idea of what kind of people they are. The Lakota s virtues all
revolve around a general concept of respect for everything, compassion, humility, and honesty. These
things can either refer to their fellow man, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Time passed and Maka asked for a covering from Inyan, as Maka was cold when facing Han Hepiwi,
and hot when turned towards Wi. Inyan made a decision with the help of all the other parts of itself,
that Maka could have what it asked, but it must agree to bring life and care for the life, Maka
accepted. Time again passed, but the life on Maka became dishonorable, and damaging. Maka decided
a cleanse was needed, and so Maka produced many different disasters, such as earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions, all at the same time. Then the land mass on one half of Maka broke apart, into the
continents. More time went by, the world became nefarious again, and Maka had to cleanse once
more. Maka told the people who were doing as they should to come inside her, while she again
brought catastrophe, this time the Ice Age. Later the ice melted and the water became the rivers, and
lakes (Hollow Horn Bear).
More time passed, and one day the trickster Iktomi walked amongst the Black Hills. At this time in
history, the world was full of huge creatures. Iktomi, for fear of being trod upon by one of these
creatures, hid in the bushes, here he heard a heavy breathing. He did not hear anything else indicative
of one of the giant beings. This made him curious, and he looked for the source of the breathing. He
found a hole, then looked down and saw people who were living underground. He called down to
them to come up, but they did not want to. Finally a young man decided to see what

The Tripartite Secondary School System
Introduction To Social Policy (AC1, AC2, AC4.2) The tripartite secondary school system was
introduced to society following the 1944 Education Act, this act divided schooling into primary and
secondary levels whilst increasing the school leaving age to 15. During the same year, however, the
secondary level of schooling was further divided into 3 categories grammar, technical and modern.
Prior to this act there was no segregation of schooling in place, known as elementary schooling.
Grammar schools were intended to schools based around academia, technical schools were intended to
be based around science and technical schooling and modern schools were intended to be consistent
with general schooling and education. The secondary schools children attended was not down to
individual choice but rather an IQ test, the 11+ test. The 11+ test was founded by Cyril Burt on the
understanding that intelligence was inherited, there was proof into Burt s theory and it was identified
that girls IQ level was often higher. The test was fixed to minimise the girls scores and allow only
20% to meet the requirements for the grammar schools. However this act was not successful as
modern and grammar schools were equal in society and science was taught in grammar schools as
opposed to technical schools, thus very few technical schools were instituted. By 1952 predominantly
people were in modern schools, followed by grammar and only 5% in technical schools so the system
proposed had failed to

Using Social Media For More Than Being Social
Using Social Media for More than Being Social
As someone who has lived here all of my life, I feel I can confidently say, Florida is a strange place.
No, not because extended family in other states think we visit Disney World every weekend or wrestle
alligators in our spare time, but for other reasons. For the record, I have not been to Disney since I was
about twelve and could not be paid enough to even touch an alligator, but I have seen firsthand just
how many strange people are here. Thankfully, there are hundreds of other brilliant people such as
famed author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, actor Wesley Snipes, and physicist George Smoot, just to
name a few, call Florida home to balance out many of the crazies. You don t believe me though when I
say that there are some strange people who live here? Take a visit to the South Florida Sun Sentinel
Newspaper s FloriDUH blog on their website, and see for yourself. Here are two recent noteworthy
cases:
Palm Coast police recently investigated a complaint and found a man at the scene whom they
interrogated, and was then blamed for throwing eggs and potatoes at police, after they found an egg in
his pocket (Readout, 2015).
A Lee County teacher was found guilty of DUI after driving his truck into a ditch with an elevated
blood alcohol level...all while wearing a t shirt from the high school where he taught drivers education
at that is (Bevis, 2015).
The craziness does not stop with some of the bizarrity and irony

The Impact Of Organizational Behavior On Sports Industry
An evaluation of how the study of Organizational Behavior in sports industry is relevant to me.
In football industry the importance of teamwork pays a huge role in future success. Without balanced
group it will be difficult to achieve goals but what is teamwork? There are several ways to define
teamwork but for some color why not think of it as the French do. The French language has an
excellent expression to describe it: esprit de corps. This means a sense of unity, of enthusiasm for
common interests and responsibilities, as developed among a group of persons closely associated in a
task, cause, enterprise, etc. Teamwork can be likened to two compounds, almost essential to modern
life. It s the glue which keeps a team together, a bond which promotes strength, unity, reliability and
support. Teamwork is also the oil that makes the team work. It can enable smoother movement
towards targets, can prolong forward momentum, and can help teams to overcome obstacles.
Teamwork has the potential to underpin so much of what is valuable in work. In fact, the benefits to be
gained from teamwork synergies are essential for the effective management of resources. The value of
teamwork is regularly seen in sports. How often do we see teams made up of expensive star players
outperformed by teams with players who may be individually less talented? Assuming transfer price
tags really are an indicator of talent! The answer lies in two things. The synergistic value of teamwork
(our glue and

  • 2. Responsibility In Virgil s Ceres And Dido Ceres and Dido each possess great power and authority, but their depictions by Ovid and Virgil establish an inaccurate sense of weakness. As women, they are characterized as adversaries to the male idea of power and strength. Though they are queens and goddesses, they are unequal to their male counterparts simply due to their sex. Each of these women fall victim to the oppressiveness of their respective patriarchal societies. Even though Ceres and Dido, in adherence to gender roles, are devoted mothers and lovers, respectively. Their love is only met with pain and agony. Dido allows her burning desire for Aeneas to distract her from her duties, and Ceres is brought to a crippled state because Dis has stolen her daughter. In both Virgil s The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Dis abducts her daughter, she appeals to Jove, but faces great injustice and inequality. Jove does not attempt to empathize with the grieving mother, but instead chooses to lecture her. Though she is a most powerful goddess, she must humble herself in his presence. Aware of the dynamic, she appeals to his masculine dominance and says, ...if you have no regard for her mother, relent as her father don t hold her unworthy, I beg you, simply because I am the child s other parent! (V. 687 689). This self degradation is a notable contrast from the fierceness Ceres demonstrates only moments before. As an autonomous goddess, she reeks havoc in her rage, but in the presence of a male counterpart, she must subdue her rage. She hides her true emotions and submits to the male dominated world she lives in. Instead of respecting Ceres for her humility, Jupiter almost mocks her concerns and exclaims ...how much it is to be Jove s brother! (V.702). Desperate for his aid, Ceres has no response and must tolerate his insincerity. Although Ceres is a powerful goddess, it is almost irrelevant because her might and fortitude are minimized by Jove s haughtiness. But, her capacity to temper her emotions indicate a power all of its own. This control is in fact, far more impressive than Jove s excessive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Determining the Need for a Study VALUE MANAGEMENT Determining the Need for a Study In broad terms, the factors that underpin the decision to initiate a value management study are the potential for savings from managing the large number of stakeholder interfaces, the complexity of the project or the innovative nature of the project. The goals may be to overcome a difficult problem, to achieve project acceleration, to overcome interfacing problems, to develop or improve a brief, to meet statutory requirements, to provide rigorous review or audit, to improve value for money and/ or to develop/ review design options (Best, R. and de Valence, G., 1999, p.240) Timing Value management studies have application at all phases of the asset life cycle, covering planning, procurement, maintenance and management, and disposal. A value management study may be initiated at any of the following stages of the project life cycle. The greatest potential saving is possible at the earliest stage in the project life cycle. Both the study objectives and the mix of stakeholders in the workshop group are determined by the particular phase at which the study is conducted. It is important that the use of value management is planned well ahead so that the study or studies are conducted in good time so that maximum benefit can be achieved. Initiation Criteria There are number of initiation criteria discussed below. These provide the necessary justification for commissioning a value management study. Because of the potential for ... Community Health in the Event of a Sars Outbreak Essay Community Health in the Event of a SARS Outbreak The SARS Outbreak of 2003 SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is a respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, originally reported in Asia in February 2003 and spread to over two dozen countries before being contained (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2005). Once infected, individuals with SARS initially develop a high fever and other flu like symptoms including headache, body aches and overall feeling of discomfort before, in most cases, progressing to pneumonia (CDC, 2005). The disease was first diagnosed in a middle aged man who had flown from China to Hong Kong. A few days after the announcement of the disease, rumors and panic began to spread, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 14). Routes of Transmission In the laboratory setting, the virus was found in respiratory droplets, feces, saliva, tears and urine (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). SARS is primarily spread through close, personal contact, such as kissing, hugging, eating or drinking, as well as being within 3 feet of a person who coughs or sneezes while infected and shedding the virus. These activities allow the respiratory droplets shed during these activities to come in contact with mucous membranes found in the eyes, nose and mouth (Kutsar, 2004). Other modes of transmission include aerosolizing procedures in hospital settings and contamination of surfaces in healthcare facilities, households and other closed environments (Kutsar, 2004, para. 12). There has been no confirmation of fecal oral transmission or of transmission via water or food; however, over one third of the earliest cases in China were among food handlers (Kutsar, 2004). Finally, there is a possibility of animal vector transmission, as discussed in regards to the Hong Kong s Amoy Gardens (WHO/DCDSR, 2003). Effect of Outbreak on Community The SARS outbreak caused major effects on the communities affected. Based on the 2003 outbreak, one can assume similar issues would develop should the disease recur. The biggest impact to communities affected would be the strain on the healthcare system. Since SARS is a largely respiratory disease, it can cause very serious problems in the patients infected, requiring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Five Cinematic Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window In Rear Window, by Alfred Hitchcock, Jeff, a photographer in New York City, breaks his leg while trying to take a photo at an auto race and gets stuck in his apartment until his leg heals. To pass the time, Jeff spies on his neighbors with his photo lenses. However, while in the process of spying on his neighbors, the Thorwalds, he suspects that a gruesome murder may have taken place in the household. In Rear Window, Hitchcock creates a suspenseful tone by utilizing five cinematic terms: sound effects, zoom shot, reaction shot, symbol, and point of view. In the beginning of Rear Window, while Jeff is spying on his neighbors, he hears the melodious piano keys of a fun loving composer, the sweet nothings of newlyweds, and the bickering of the Thorwalds, a middle aged married couple. Immediately, the audience senses that something is not right with the Thorwalds, when Hitchcock juxtaposes the sweet sound of the neighbors with the Thorwald s constant squabbling. Thus, Hitchcock uses sound effects to make the viewer question the relationship of the Thorwalds, and creates a suspenseful tone with the Thorwald s constant bickering. Mrs. Thorwald s wedding ring is symbolic because it represented the symbol of Mr. and Mrs. Thorwald s love, but now it represents the downfall of their love. Hitchcock uses symbolism to show how a symbol of love, a wedding ring, can also be a symbol of downfall. Hitchcock also uses this symbol in the story to create a suspenseful ... • 7. An Advertisement Of The American Comedy Drama Television... This paper explores an advertisement found in March 2015 edition of Nylon Guys magazine (page 13), for denim apparel falling under the Buffalo David Bitton (BDB) brand. In the advertisement, Adrian Grenier, a celebrity best known for his lead role in the TV series Entourage, endorses BDB s denim apparel, wearing their jeans and a denim jacket. BDB was founded in 1985 in Montreal and today it is an industry leader offering denim clothing in 18 countries and spanning 3000 locations throughout the world. In North America the brand can be found in many department stores, including the Hudson s bay company, Bloomingdales and Macy s. The brand appeals to fashion savvy men and women aged 18 34 who are innovators seeking effortless style as well as substance. Given this orientation, Grenier is an ideal celebrity for an advertising endorsement. The American comedy drama television series Entourage, which concluded in 2011 after eight seasons, chronicles Grenier as Vincent Chase as he ventures into Los Angeles California as an enviable celebrity along with some of his childhood friends. The role Grenier plays is quite fitting as he exudes laid back confidence as a ladies man and the clear leader of his friend group. Interestingly, not only is Grenier a celebrity for playing Vincent Chase, but the character Vincent Chase within the show is a celebrity looking for movie roles. Grenier thereby owns two separate layers of celebrity image by virtue of one character. In the black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Mass Media Influence Does mass media influence human lives so greatly that a self inflicted 48 hour free period from the influences of mass media such as television, social media, internet, recorded and live music such as the radio, could have a measurable effect? As my personal journey into this experiment is laid out the conclusion will become clear. Through removing forms of mass media such as radio, television, internet and newspapers I have learned that indeed mass media is not easy to get away from, and it has a deep impact on mood, response, and critical thought processes. Through a 48 hour period, I consciously chose to remove all mass media influence, such as social media, television, radio and recorded music, and in doing thus have come to some rather startling conclusions about the severe and often silent effect that mass media can have on our lives. This was a rather difficult task as most people never take the time to consider where and how mass media influences our daily lives, and how deep the impact can be. The escape from radio is difficult, the desire to lose oneself in television after a hard day is overwhelming and the sheer amount that we rely on social media is harder still to understand unless you do without it for a lengthy period. While staying clear of these forms of obvious mass media such as overt advertisements, or Facebook seemed easy enough, though one can never be prepared to cope with the interruption of the thought processes and mood changes that accompany this ... • 14. The Use of Creative Color Throughoutout F. Scott... F. Scott Fitzgerald creatively utilizes colors throughout his novel, The Great Gatsby, not only to provide the reader with a rich visual image of the scene taking place, but also to convey certain symbols within the story. To begin with, one must understand what each color symbolizes. Green symbolizes hope, blue symbolizes illusion, red means violence or love, yellow illustrates wealth or death, white is innocence, and gray or black symbolizes corruption. The reader can see that color symbolism is used to characterize Tom Buchanan. Another character, Daisy Buchanan, is also associated with a few different colors. After Myrtle s death, a pink light is shown from Daisy s window at her home―showing how violence has been mixed into Daisy s innocent character. Another character, Jordan Baker, is also associated with color within the novel. Jordan Baker is a friend of Daisy Buchanan s and a relatively famous golf player. At the beginning of the novel, Jordan is described as having gray eyes, so the reader can assume first hand that she must be associated with some kind of corruption. Later on in the novel, the reader finds that Jordan was accused of cheating during a golf tournament―which is likely the cause of why Jordan is associated with being corrupt: At her first big golf tournament there was...a suggestion that she had moved her ball from a bad lie in the semi final round. The thing approached the proportions of a scandal―then died away (57). Therefore, the reader may understand why corruption is symbolized by Jordan s gray eyes from this quote. Like Daisy, Jordan is also associated with wealth―and this is mostly conveyed in her slender golden arm (43) and yellow hair. She is famous for her golf career, and shows up to Gatsby s party, which is why she must be associated with wealth and high status. Therefore, color is a very prominent aspect of F. • 16. Oregon Territory Research Paper The United States currently occupies around thirty seven percent of North America, but how has this prosperous country expanded so fast in the last three centuries? The US is currently one of the largest countries in the world and the second largest in North America. Though most Americans know about the original Thirteen Colonies, several of them might have trouble trying to list another major affair through which the United States has expanded westward. Many battles and fights have caused the borders of the United States and the states and territories of the land now deemed to the United States to have changed; along with major purchases of land, the battles and fights have brought America to the current size it is. The United States was started as thirteen colonies that were originated from settlers who decided that they wanted religious freedom instead of being forced to remain a menial outsider to the large European religions. These territories eventually banded together and via the Treaty of Paris 1873 retained their independence from Europe and were finally recognized by several European countries that had ... • 17. The Shame of the Nation by Jonathan Kozol I. Analysis of the mechanics of the book. If anyone in the United States were asked, What is the best part about living in this country?, most people would answer equality . The United States is built on and known for the equality among its citizens and is often referred to as the melting pot . After reading Jonathan Kozol s, The Shame of the Nation, equality is nonexistent within the schools he has gone to, and has been employed through. With his travels, expert testimony and personal stories gathered from the people within the community and schools, he shows the exact opposite of equality. Minority schools being his main focus, he discusses the inequalities these students endure and truly opens up your eyes to just how awful these minority schools have it. Jonathan Kozol is successful in his writing of The Shame of the Nation, and makes himself a voice for these minority schools that are denied of their voices. The way Kozol chooses to organize his book is very effective. It has a topical way of organization with a touch of chronological usage through the book. Instead of just starting right into his points that he strives to make, he begins the book with a little history about himself and how he ended up in the position of traveling to these different schools. This is extremely necessary to the book, without it the reader would have no idea as to why he chose to do his observations and how he came to love what he does. Knowing that he has the experience of teaching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My academic background, academic discipline and my personality are in fact closely related because of these valued experiences; they allowed me to learn and to explore various cultures, to expand and to broaden my knowledge and vision beyond mediocrity, to form and to shape my personality and most importantly to know who I am and who I want to be. First of all, I am a Taiwanese American from Dallas, but I ve also been raised in several different places than where I come from, including China, Spain and the UK. Having lived in these places made me both culturally and socially diverse. On one hand, I ve experienced different educational systems, food, languages and knowledge about different ways of living; on the other hand, I ve learned how to quickly adjust into new environments and thus interact with people from all over the world. Among my international experiences, I especially value the two month study abroad in Spain. I chose to go there because of my interest in Spanish language and culture that was originally developed through a four week Spanish beginner workshop during the summer break prior to my study abroad trip. In Spain, I lived mainly in Salamanca, a small old city in northwestern Spain, which was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Provide examples to illustrate your discussion. a. Aspect: Aspect grammatical category of verbs denotes the flow of time related to the event they express. Unlike tense that is semantically rather related to the event in time, aspect is about time moving through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for example, I walked and I was walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that happened in a certain point in the past while the second viewed with an emphasis on the temporal sense of the event over which it happened. Distinctions can be made between perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the two and appearance is different among languages. For example, Mandarin Chinese offers two perfective markers; le and guo. However, in English, perfective aspect forms are those verbs in the simple form like read, ate, walk... and imperfective forms are progressive forms such as am walking, was reading, were eating... It is crucial to understand that the completion or duration of the event does not distinguish between perfective and imperfective aspect because both can be expressed by either form. For, example, the use of struggled in the sentence Ali struggled during his fourth round clearly shows that the perfective form can be used to express an event that happened over a period of time. there is also ... And this is a country that I love. So, me not standing for the national anthem isn t really going to get me the results that I want. Therefore, Athletes who refuse to stand for the national anthem should receive a consequence. For instance, they should get fined or possibly suspended for a few games. Refusing to stand for the National Anthem shows disrespect to the flag members of armed forces. For example, The national anthem pays respect to the people who have risked their lives, been injured, or died defending the US. Without a doubt, this is 100% true because why should someone be able to take a knee and disrespect the flag when people risked their lives for us to be free. Yes, that s what the flag represents but people should never bite the hand that feeds you.The writer of the national anthem sated, it just blows my mind that somebody like (kaepernick) would do what he does to dishonor the flag of this country and the national anthem when we have young men and women overseas fighting for this country, that people have died for. I agree with the evidence stated because I feel like everyone should pay their respects to everyone who fought for the flag. I understand that you aren t supportive of the National anthem but I feel as if there s another way you can protest. That s not as disrespectful for instance, taking a knee before or after the national anthem. Lastly, the New Orleans quarterback, supported Kaepernick s message but disagreed with the delivery: It s and oxymoron that you re sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out. As this being stated I agree with the New Orleans Quarterback because, again there is another way to protest and at least be smart about what you re doing. Not standing for the national anthem is an ineffective and counterproductive way to promote a cause. • 29. The Tripartite Secondary School System Introduction To Social Policy (AC1, AC2, AC4.2) The tripartite secondary school system was introduced to society following the 1944 Education Act, this act divided schooling into primary and secondary levels whilst increasing the school leaving age to 15. During the same year, however, the secondary level of schooling was further divided into 3 categories grammar, technical and modern. Prior to this act there was no segregation of schooling in place, known as elementary schooling. Grammar schools were intended to schools based around academia, technical schools were intended to be based around science and technical schooling and modern schools were intended to be consistent with general schooling and education. The secondary schools children attended was not down to individual choice but rather an IQ test, the 11+ test. The 11+ test was founded by Cyril Burt on the understanding that intelligence was inherited, there was proof into Burt s theory and it was identified that girls IQ level was often higher. The test was fixed to minimise the girls scores and allow only 20% to meet the requirements for the grammar schools. However this act was not successful as modern and grammar schools were equal in society and science was taught in grammar schools as opposed to technical schools, thus very few technical schools were instituted. By 1952 predominantly people were in modern schools, followed by grammar and only 5% in technical schools so the system proposed had failed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In football industry the importance of teamwork pays a huge role in future success. Without balanced group it will be difficult to achieve goals but what is teamwork? There are several ways to define teamwork but for some color why not think of it as the French do. The French language has an excellent expression to describe it: esprit de corps. This means a sense of unity, of enthusiasm for common interests and responsibilities, as developed among a group of persons closely associated in a task, cause, enterprise, etc. Teamwork can be likened to two compounds, almost essential to modern life. It s the glue which keeps a team together, a bond which promotes strength, unity, reliability and support. Teamwork is also the oil that makes the team work. It can enable smoother movement towards targets, can prolong forward momentum, and can help teams to overcome obstacles. Teamwork has the potential to underpin so much of what is valuable in work. In fact, the benefits to be gained from teamwork synergies are essential for the effective management of resources. The value of teamwork is regularly seen in sports.
