King Arthur And The Lady Of Shalott
The first week at Harlaxton focuses on the ideas of freedom and captivity, or (to put it less delicately)
life and death. Arthurian legend, and British history, are discussed in back to back classes featuring Sir
Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, and Alfred, Lord Tennyson s The Idylls of the King, The Lady of
Shalott and The Charge of the Light Brigade. After a quick overview of British history so that students
will have a basic understanding of the time periods in which the stories are based the class focuses on
student lead discussions on the prominent themes. Comparing the two versions of King Arthur, and
the challenges he must overcome, along with the decision the Lady of Shalott makes in regard to her
own life, allows the students to begin drafting ideas on their new surroundings. ... Show more content

Concrete Patio Vs Wood Deck Research Paper
Why A Concrete Patio May Be Better Than A Wood Deck
Before you install a deck in your backyard, be sure to compare the advantages of going with a
concrete patio instead. Concrete is affordable, versatile, and best of all, it needs very little
maintenance. Here s why a concrete patio may be a better choice for you than a wood deck.
Concrete Is Durable
A concrete patio should last as long as your house. A wood deck will gradually decompose over time.
Plus, wood is subject to rotting, insect damage, and splintering. It s nearly impossible to damage
concrete. You can drag furniture across it, and even set a fire pit right on it. It s the ideal surface if you
want an outdoor kitchen or fireplace on your patio since you won t have to worry about

Peter Paul Rubens Essay
In 1600, Peter Paul Rubens left his home in Antwerp, and he set off to Italy. Soon after arriving in
Italy, Ruben entered the service of the Duke of Mantua, Vincenzo Gonzaga.
The duke s palace had a great art collection, and Ruben found time to visit various other cities in Italy
since he wasn t expected to be at the household all of the time.
Rubens completed his education in Rome.
During Rubens first visit to Rome, he painted 3 altarpieces for the Church of Sta Croce.
In 1603, Peter s duke sent Peter on a diplomatic mission to Spain where he made an equestrian portrait
of the Duke of Lerma.
In 1605, Rubens decided to stay in Rome for 3 years, and during this period of, he commissioned and
created various pieces of art and decoration.

Maria in Vallicella. At first, he created an altarpiece that showed St. Gregory, various other saints, and
Madonna and Child. The poor lighting in the church did not make a good impression of this altarpiece.
Then, Rubens decided to replace this altarpiece with three images painted on slate.
His mother s sickness and death would change Rubens career forever. When Rubens heard that his
mother was sick, he left Italy to return to Antwerp, but he would never come back.
In Antwerp, the sovereigns, or rulers, of Spanish Netherlands appointed Ruben as court painter.
Archduke Albert and his consort, Isabella.
Rubens created the Four Philosophers , and the humanistic atmosphere pf Antwerp helped to inspire
and influence the work of art. This painting is a commemorative one with Justus Lipsius with 2 pupils

The Raising of the Cross meant for the church of St. Walburga, and this piece of art made him the

worldly pieces of art such as Descent From the Cross and Great Last

handmaids tale Essay
The central social hierarchy within the novel is the gender hierarchy, placing men in a position of
extreme power. This is evident in every aspect of the book, as the entire Gilead society is male
dominated. The Commander is at the top of the hierarchy and is involved with designing and
establishing the current society taking control of a nation of women, and exploiting their power by
controlling what is taught, what they can teach themselves and the words that they can use. Soon all of
the women will become brainwashed, simply because it is made nearly impossible to defy the rules

In the handmaid s tale the government has given the lead character and presumably all the other
character a pill that makes them forget their past. In the case of the main character its effectiveness
was not 100 percent and she remembers scraps of her previous life n her dreams. In her dreams she
remember s how they took her daughter away and how she loves her husband. Offred has no clue to
his whereabouts or even if he s alive.
The agents of control in offreds life start with the aunts in training the handmaid s. the role is to mold
the handmaid s into their society, to make them presume that everything is the norm and not to desire
more. Secondly is the eye. They are the thought in the backs of peoples minds that makes them follow
the rules. No one knows quite who they are and can never be sure who to trust. This is the perfect way
to control people without a constant presence.

Northern Colonies Similarities
The first permanent North American colony was established in 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia. This was
the first colony established in the southern territory of the Americas. Years later in 1620, Plymouth,
Massachusetts became the first northern colony established in the Americas. Although both were
established around the same time period and both originated from Britain, it was evident from the
beginning that their motives were different. Most colonies settling in the north were attempting to flee
religious persecution, while Southern colonies were founded for economic gain. Although there were
some apparent similarities in the beginning, the colonies began to develop different economic systems,
religious views, and government. Therefore, the statement that the north and south had more
similarities than differences is not valid. The north and south had drastically different ecosystems,
shaping two completely different economic systems. The northern territories had a cooler climate as
well as poor soil, allowing only the production of staple crops, making it very hard to create an
economy based on trade from agricultural production. In contrast, the south had very fertile soil with a
warmer climate. This allowed the South s economy to rely on cash crops. The South s primary crop
was tobacco, which was very successful, leading to huge profit. Tobacco was in very high demand,
creating enormous plantations that required large labor forces. However, it was difficult to find enough

Leviathan, By Thomas Hobbes
In Leviathan, by Thomas Hobbes, he talks about nature, man, liberty, and other topics. Mr. Hobbes
says that nature hath made men so equal, but how can we determine how they are equal? We can say
everyone is equal before they come into the world, except when they are actually in the world, no one
is the same. Everyone is different in some way, whether it be with respect, money, or just social gains.
One man can claim any benefit to his satisfaction, but is it only satisfying to himself or others? What
makes this satisfying? Something s can be satisfying while others find them horrifying. For example,
in the real world there are psychopaths that murder people and do other totally absurd things. The
normal people find this disturbing, and might find football satisfying to them, but then again, who
defines what is normal about a person.
Without a common power to keep all men in awe, they are in war. Every man is for themselves and
just fighting to be the best, but how can this be? Why can t we all just accept who each other is,
instead of fighting for who can be the best? When men are in war with each other, they have no
common sense between justice and injustice actions. They block everything out and go on a totally
aggressive offensive scheme. All they care about is coming on top and destroying whoever they are at
war with, but why does there have to be war at all? Most people go to war for items and to show who
is best, but can there never be war? The answer is no, to

Benefits Of Andrew Jackson
Corrupt politicians have always been an issue. Many debate that Andrew Jackson was one. He went
beyond the bounds of his power, forced thousands of natives off their land down the trail of tears , and
claimed to fight for common individuals , a group which apparently only includes free white men.
Today, many of our previous historical figures have become controversial from a moral and political
standpoint, especially Andrew Jackson. This is due to his ownership of slaves, and his ability to follow
rules, or lack thereof. Andrew Jackson s Presidency should not be admired by our current generation
because it harmed many people, and he broke many constitutional laws. Andrew Jackson s political
career was harmful and non beneficial. Andrew Jackson s Presidency should not be admired by our

gained executive control over all of the land. This also meant that he had easier control over the
Native Americans, and could force more of them off the land. In fact, Andrew Jackson became a main
proprietor of the tragic Trail of Tears, a thousand mile forced trip to new lands which cost one quarter

Indi The Architecture Of Community
1. Introduction
A City is not an accident but the result of coherent vision and aims.
Leon Krier, The Architecture of Community
India is moving towards fast paced economic growth. After India entered Open Market Operations
under the leadership of Prime Minister P.V. Narsimha Rao, economic policies endured lots of
opportunities for foreign direct investment further offering people new windows of employment and
growth of the nation overall. In the reports of McKinsey s India s Urban awakening, it has been
mentioned that many countries are facing problems of aging population whereas India comparatively
has a young and growing population which is a potential demographic advantage . For this advantage
to work wonders, India needs urban centers with better transportation, infrastructural facilities and
housing. In the very same report of McKinsey, it said that the urban economy will provide 85 percent
of total revenue, which will finance development nationwide . Thus report of McKinsey indirectly
states that cities are the engines of growth, hence with better transportation system and infrastructure
the urban development will enhance at a faster pace.
Public transportation takes a special place in city s smooth functioning, since it offers mobility and
access to people in accomplishing their daily tasks. Technological advancement and rise in incomes
have made people to rely more on private mode of transport due to poor services by public transport
agencies in India.

Emotions During Mediation
Get More Without Emotions During Mediation
Mediation is a complement to divorce proceedings. All too often, many spouses cannot settle disputes,
so mediation helps them move forward in the process by employing the services of an unbiased third
party. In fact, many people find that mediation helps them retain more of their assets because they
were able to think through the process logically and avoid emotionally heightened situations through

In essence, they feel as if the judge didn t understand them because they weren t able to state their

During mediation, everyone is allowed to discuss the concerns they have about the proceedings. In
mediation, each party is allowed to state their case, which helps them let off steam. After being heard,
many people are more willing to negotiate fair trade offs in divorce proceedings.
Mediation Is Flexible
Often, hearing the judge s decision about divorce proceeding is final. In order to appeal, most people
will have to present their case to another judge, which can be time consuming. During mediation,
decisions aren t final until mediation ends. Since mediation is flexible, both parties can go back and
forth between different aspects of their situation and make adjustments. With the ability to change
positions, there are fewer instances of emotionally charged conversations blocking the process of
coming to a solution.
Mediation is mutually beneficial to both parties in divorce proceedings. With mediation, people can
resolve their issues easier and faster than they would if they relied exclusively on the court system.
Mediation is a viable solution to resolving problems when there is the potential for

Christopher Clombus Is Not A Hero Essay
Introduction
In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. That s the one date everyone remembers, the date in virtually
every school child s history textbook. But, they leave out pretty much everything about Columbus and
his exploration of the New World. It s the part many people have yet to learn about. For years,
Columbus has been presented to us as a hero. In 1934, President Roosevelt even gave Columbus his
own holiday. To this day, we celebrate his discovery of America. What is found in history textbooks
now, have seemed to show another side of Christopher Columbus, a side that they wouldn t dare teach
in elementary school. It s the rest of Columbus tale of discovery . This paper will show you that

The Indians taught them how to grow food and use the land to survive. Columbus and his men would
trade a lot with the Indians and they all lived happily ever after. That s pretty much where our textbook
stopped. I have never learned anything else about Columbus until now. There is so much that my third
grade teacher left out and didn t explain.
REASONS FOR HIM NOT BEEN A HERO Columbus gets a lot of credit for discovering land that
already had people living on it, a land that has already been encountered by other people way before
Columbus was even born. In 70,000 to 12,000 B.C. Siberia explorers sailed to Alaska. In 10,000 600
B.C., Siberians also went to Canada and the state we now call New Mexico. A little more recently the
Vikings in 1000 1350 came from Greenland and Iceland. They traveled to Labrado, Baffin Land,
Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Cape Cod and further south. Around 1311 and 1460 explorers from West
Africa came across to Haiti, Panama, and Brazil (Loewen 48). These were only a few of the many
encounters of the Americas. A result of these explorations was the establishment of Indian villages and
the life they began to lead.
The fact that Columbus didn t actually discover America isn t the idea that is most disturbing when
considering misleading history that children are taught. It is the information that was kept from us
while younger that now should be revealed, since we are at the age that we can comprehend and

It is true that sentencing is not like baking a cake; you cannot lay down in advance, for every case, the
exact ingredients and proportions, the exact temperature required... In sentencing, courts are not
dealing with standards and ingredients but with an infinite variety of offences, offenders and
situations. Nevertheless, there ought to be some definite criteria to decide the sentence. Taking a lead
in this direction, the Federal Authorities in U.S.A. established sentencing Institutes in 1957 to impart
some sort of training for magistrates in matters of sentencing. Sentencing Councils are also set up in
USA to discuss the problem of sentencing and adopting a uniform policy on judicial sentencing. In
England, vigorous efforts have been made by Lord Chief Justice ever since 1970 to ascertain definite
principles of sentencing. The length of the prison sentence is usually commensurate with the
seriousness of the offence as provided under the Criminal Justice Act, 1991. S.2(2) of the Act further
empowers the court to imprison a person convicted of a violent or sexual offence for longer than the
seriousness of the case requires, but not exceeding the maximum in any case. Another Act passed by
the British Parliament, namely, the Crime (Sentences) Act, 1997 has removed the provision of
remission from the penal code. In order to provide safeguard against the arbitrary use of judicial
discretion, efforts are being made to introduce computerized sentencing system ever since

Analysis Of The Cohen Brother s Film True Grit
It is always a challenge for filmmakers to take a beloved character from literature and bring him or her
to life. There is not enough time to do an adequate amount of characterization, which is why many
films fail to accurately portray a character. The Cohen Brother s film True Grit, an adaptation of the
novel by Charles Portis, created a better portrayal of the character of Mattie Ross, the feisty, head
strong, and tough young girl. Through costume and set design, as well as the narrative choices the
directors chose to take, the resilient, no nonsense, bratty young girl was brought to life.
In the book, Mattie Ross is a very feisty, head strong, and tough young girl. Mattie does not let her age
get in the way of anything she sets off to do and is never afraid to give some lip when needed. These
characteristics are shown in the novel in scenes like her first introduction with LaBoeuf. He threatens
to hit her with his belt and she replies, Put a hand on me and you will answer for it...the good people
of Arkansas do not go easy on men who abuse women and children (76) . She is a 14 year old girl
standing up for herself against a grown man, which is something most adults can struggle with. This
scene is an example that gives the readers a look into who Mattie is as a person, which the Cohen
brothers did a very good job of capturing. In the Cohen Brother s version mise en scene was used so
effectively that it was like the Mattie in the book was on screen. The costume

writers share a similar topic, though their style of narration can compare and differ in many ways. A
theme throughout the story is death. Both authors take on a different view of death. While death can
be seen as a haunting experience or the end of a life. There are other interpretations that can be made
on this one topic. Both authors have twists in their stories with different ideas, which aid to reveal
their narration and expression regarding death.
Something both authors did similarly discuss the setting. Dillard was very specific with the setting of
the environment she is narrating from. She states, while warbler swung in the leaves overhead and
bristle worms trailed their inches over the twiggy dirt at my feet; and I read every night by candlelight,
while barred owls called in the forest and pale moths massed round my head in the clearing (Dillard)
She goes in depth to construe and give her readers the real visualizing feeling that they are with her as
she speaks. Similarly, Woolfe depicts her setting with detail as well. She states, Presumably it was mid
day, and work in the fields had stopped. Stillness and quiet had replaced the previous animation. The
birds had taken themselves off to feed in the brooks. The horses stood still. Yet the power was there,

Essay on The Most Common Types of Systems Access Controls
The most common types of systems access controls
Access control requires unique user identification, emergency access procedure, automatic log off, and
encryption and decryption of data. In order to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability of
data, it is important to control access to the information system. Controls prevent unauthorized users
from accessing the system and/or altering data. They also prevent authorized users from making
unauthorized changes to data. Some common examples are User based, Role based and Context based
access control with the strongest security on Context based access control.

Inadequately secured wireless communication
Wireless security isn t just a big issue for control systems, but for all uses, mainly because wireless is
becoming so pervasive, says Staggs. It s very easy to plug wireless in almost anywhere. However, you
have to be able to find the signals and know if someone has put in a rogue point.
Before installing wireless, it s important to do a complete assessment to identify the best areas for
wireless use and ensure that leakage out of the plant is minimized. There will be a wireless leakage
when you have transmitters or wireless enabled workers walking around with tablet PCs or handheld
devices. Those devices may be transmitting in an area outside a plant.
Solution can be separation by segmenting the wireless networks from the rest of the control network.
Additionally, it is strongly advisable to secure wireless access methods to include requiring
authentication and enforcing strict access controls for communications leading from the wireless
network into the rest of the control network.

Case Study Of Magners
Magners is the brand owned by Irish drinks company C C Group and in 2003 they began to look at the
possibility of launching their brand in the UK with an eye on London in particular. Industry specialists
had warned the company that cider was a declining market which had little or no potential, as cider
was viewed as a summer only drink or something that first time drinkers, students and alcoholics
drank. Magners had other ideas they wanted to create a new premium brand vintage cider that placed a
premium on the idea of time and heritage as well as its unique selling point, which was its service (a
pint of Magners from the bottle was to be poured over ice). This was used to establish a point of
differentiation in the UK cider market. It offered the consumer added value from both a premium
drinking experience as well as a prolonged enjoyment of the beverage. Creative agency Young Euro
RSCG came up with the seasons campaign using the idea of time . They created the tagline that s now
famously associated with Magners nothing added but time a phrase they used to differentiate it from
traditional cider to convey a sense of quality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magners had managed not only to enter the UK market, they had rejuvenated the feelings towards
cider, changing a negative into a positive and increasing cider sales by 26% between 2005 and 2007.
In 2006 it was estimated that Magners, the relatively unknown Irish brand of cider, accounted for 75%
of the cider sales growth in the UK, becoming the No 1 bottled alcohol brand in the country, outselling
Budweiser, which previously held the title, in as little as 12 months, which was three years ahead of
their target. Somehow the brand had managed to become a trendy drink among young people. It gave
the consumer who was used to being rushed around all day a feeling that they could take a little time
to themselves. They too could enjoy lazing on a sunny

The Battle Of Gaugamela By Alexander The Great
The Battle of Gaugamela SSG Hennessey, Timothy J USAICoE NCOA, Class 15 003 Alexander the
Great is arguably the greatest general and military strategist to have ever lived. He never lost a battle,
and before his thirtieth birthday, he had conquered from Greece to India. His military conquests paved
the way for Hellinization, the spread of Greek culture, throughout the world. Though Alexander s
reign was short, he left an indelible mark on not only his kingdom but on the world to come. He was
an inspiration for Napoleon and Caesar. His name marks dozens of cities across the globe. None of
this would have been possible, though, if he hadn t defeated King Darius III and the Persian Empire.

As is common following the assassination of a ruler in ancient times, Alexander solidified his role as
King of Macedon by executing or otherwise eliminating all rivals to the throne. He then focused
southward, into Greece and the rebellious city states. The primary states he concerned himself with
were Thessaly, Thermopylae, and Athens. As would be his fashion in all of his campaigns, he moved
his army swiftly into Greece before the Greeks could prepare for his arrival. Thessaly and
Thermopylae quickly, and without bloodshed, recognized him as their ruler. Before the end of 336,
Alexander had been recognized as the leader of the League of Corinth by all of Greece, with the
exception of Sparta. The only revolt was by Thebes, in 335 and, once again, Alexander responded to
this revolt quickly and swiftly. Within three days, the city was razed, soldiers slaughtered with ruthless
efficiency, and women and children sold into slavery. Once Thebes was dealt with, Athens gave its
wholehearted support to Alexander and the Corinthian League. Once he had finished consolidating his
power within Macedon and Greece, Alexander set his sights on the Persian Empire and all of Asia. In
334, only two years after taking power, Alexander marched his army west, navigated the Hellespont,
and crossed into Persian territory for the first time. Though he left Antipater and some of his troops in
behind to ensure the Greeks did not revolt again, he took close to 30,000 infantry and 5,100 cavalry

The United States Role in Causing the Nicaraguan Revolution
The Nicaraguan revolution of 1979 is an event that many American citizens may not know about.
What is likely less understood is the United States role in the cause of this revolution. The US actually
played a very important role in causing the Nicaraguan revolution. The US did three major things that
strongly influenced the revolutionaries to revolt against the government. The US helped create the
National Guard of Nicaragua, a group that abused citizens and blatantly disregarded for human rights.
The US was also complicit in the assassination of Augusto Cesar Sandino, a citizen who fought
against US Marine occupation in the 1930 s. Finally, the US supported the Somoza ... Show more

In 1857, the US arranged for Walker to surrender and leave Nicaragua, only to have him return to
Central America in 1860; however, he was tried by the Hondurans and put to death . Walker was only
the first of many more interactions between the United States and Nicaragua. The US marine
occupation began in 1912 and continued to 1925, ended, and then occurred again from 1926 till 1933.
During this time period, there were a variety of reasons for the US occupation of Nicaragua. The most
prominent reason seemed to be the geography of Nicaragua. Holding Nicaragua gave the United
States an area that would allow, first of all, US influence over more of Central America, as Nicaragua
is right in the middle of Central America, and, second of all, it was seen as an area suitable for a
transoceanic waterway . Since Nicaragua borders both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, a
canal connecting the two would be fairly feasible. The existence of this canal could bring great profits
to US investors and US companies. This US occupation eventually led to the creation of the
Nicaraguan National Guard. The Nicaraguan National Guard was created in the 1920s and trained by
US Marines. The US Marines were in Nicaragua in order to create order and civility. Once people
began to rebel against the Marines, the US decided to create an organization to serve the same purpose
the Marines did. The National Guard was to act as a police

There are many reasons for educational underachievement and it has been said that ethnicity is one of
these key factors. It has been found that Indian and Asian pupils are of higher educational achievement
than White, African Caribbean, and Black, Pakistani and Bangladeshi pupils.
One possible cause of ethnic differences in education could be at the fault of the education system. To
investigate this Sewell conducted a study using semi structured interviews and observations in an
inner city boys comprehensive school, his study revealed the ways in which African Caribbean
students are labelled by their teachers, peers, white students as problems in the classroom. Sewell
showed how Black boys use these negative perceptions to construct ... Show more content on

For example, the home of a pupil is a primary agent in their socialisation and education and this
therefore has the biggest impact on the pupil so when at school they will either be handicapped or at
an advantage from their upbringing. For example, Modood argued that some ethnic minorities have
higher levels of cultural capital, despite often being from a working class background. Many Indians
and Asians originate from working class backgrounds even though they end up with middle class jobs.
These parents therefore place particularly high values on educational success and contain the
knowledge and understanding of education to motivate their children and help them to succeed.
Strand also investigates ethnicity and achievement in education, he compared the progress of Indian,
African Caribbean and white British pupils in their secondary education. Strand found that Indian
children made more positive progress than the white British students but African Caribbean pupils fell
even further behind. Strand found the Indian s success was due to both material and cultural factors
such as high aspirations and dedication to homework, low levels of truancy and exclusion and good
resources at home such as computers and private tutoring.
However there was no evidence that African Caribbean parents and pupils adopted a culture that
would hold them back in their educational success, they had high aspirations and a positive attitude to
school. Overall his research found

Farmers Electric Cooperative Research Paper
When I was told to write an essay involving Cooperatives, I honestly had no idea what they were or
what they did. I thought that it was maybe a collaboration of people to coopaerate to achieve a certain
goal. After looking into the definition and how they work I realized I was basically right. The
definition of Cooperative is a farm, business, or other organization that is owned and run jointly by its
members, who share the profits or benefits.
A Cooperative serves their communities in a lot of different ways. A Lot of Cooperatives get involved
in the community and the education system. A good example is Farmers Electric Cooperative getting

Huck Finn Racism
Is Huckleberry Finn racist? Huckleberry Finn or Huck Finn for short has had plenty of controversy
since the book was first published. Many people believe that because of the words Twain used in the
book many people blatantly believe that the book Huck Finn is racist. Since the book was First
Published people have been trying to ban and not allow people to read Huck Finn. Many people
believe that Huck Finn should not be taught in school simply because of the tone and words Twain
decided to use while writing the book while others, on the contrary, believe that Huck Finn had a
powerful message that spoke against racism and slavery. Falling from grace ( Twain 35) This quote
can mean many different things, but how most people see it, it can show how much this book affected
racism and hate in the U.S.A it really portrays what life was like during the time period that Huck Finn
was set in. Why should Huck Finn be taught in school and why is there so much controversy
surrounding a novel. The video we watched in class gave us the story of a mother and a daughter who
decided that because their views and closed mindedness was more important than allowing students to
learn what life was like and why it is so important to never repeat those mistakes again, all because
they are much too feeble minded to realize the impact of Huck Finn. Huck Finn as a work of literature
is very important in that Twain

The Heroes Of The American West
Every society has its heroes, and often those heroes are identified with a group which is revered and
idolized for its bravery in defense of the noble objectives of the society. In the American West, that
group has for many years been the Cowboys. Whether defending women and children against the
threats from Native American Indians or other armed villains, or participating in one on one duels (or
draws) against the outlaws, the Cowboys have been regarded as warriors who are the symbols of
protection and heroism. In Arthurian society, that role of warrior was played by the Knights. There are
many parallels between the modern Cowboy and the medieval Knight, and I agree with Felicity Riddy
who observed that [t]he medieval knight is like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They needed such a large hat to protect their faces from the sun while riding in the western heat. The
bandana around their necks was to help them breathe amid all the dust, and the chaps on their pants
were to help them ride their horses and carry their guns. Anyone who sees a picture of a person attired
in this way immediately identifies that person as a cowboy and associates them with characteristics of
adventure and bravery.
The same can be said for the medieval Knight. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Sir Gawain s
armor is described in great detail by the author to emphasize the importance of it. When Sir Gawain is
leaving to go face the Green Knight, he is described putting on, the great pile of gilded war gear
glittered...complete with knee pieces, polished bright and connecting at the knee with gold knobbed
hinges. All the decoration and gold accents on his armor signify how important and wealthy he was.
To indicate his status as Knight, he carries his shield with a pentangle. The Pentangle is proper to this
prince of knights...therefore it goes with Sir Gawain and his gleaming armour...Gawain was reputed
good and, like gold well refined, He was devoid of all villainy, every virtue displaying in the field. Sir
Gawain s armor not only identified him as a Knight but specifically by name and honor. These
appearances of the Knight and Cowboy became so recognizable that they became symbolic. The mere

Most Common Auto Immune Disease
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systematic inflammatory disease characterized by synovitis (constant
inflammation of the synovial membranes) and autoantibodies. The disease that affects 0.5 1.0% of all
adults in industrialized countries, mostly women and elderly people (Scott et al, 2010). In the United
States, more than 1.5 million people suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, making it one of the most
common auto immune disease (Carmona et al. 2010). According to the Arthritis Foundation,
individuals who suffer from arthritis have to deal with joint pain, morning stiffness, fatigue, loss of
appetite, depressive symptoms, and low grade fever which can last a few days to weeks. Individuals
with this disease tend to have a low quality of life and difficulties with day to day activities.
There are 5 types of RA progression measured by imaging radiography. Type 1 is identified as a rare
type, with no radiographic progression, type 2 is a slow or moderate onset with increasing
progression, type 3 is a moderate to fast onset with stable progression, type 4 is a fast onset with a
decreased progression rate, and type 5 is a slow onset with acceleration in progression, then
deceleration (Graudal et al, 2004). Having any of the five types of RA can cause disability as a result
of joint damage, lowers quality of life, and can lead to other comorbidities such as cardiovascular
disease, tuberculosis, malignancies, and mental health conditions such anxiety and depression (Scott et

The Effect Of Temperature And Ph On The Enzyme Activity Of...
The Impact of Temperature and pH on the Enzyme Activity of Catechol Oxidase in Solanum
Tuberosum Samples Abstract The role of an enzyme is to catalyse reactions within a cell. The enzyme
present in a potato (Solanum Tuberosum) is catechol oxidase. In this experiment, the enzyme activity
was tested under different temperature and pH conditions. The objective of this experiment was to
determine the ideal conditions under which catechol oxidase catalyses reactions. In order to do this,
catechol was catalyzed by catechol oxidase into benzoquinone at diverse temperatures and pH values.
The enzyme was exposed to its new environment for 5 minutes before the absorbance of the catechol
oxidase was measured at 420 nm using a spectrophotometer. The use of a spectrophotometer was
crucial for the collection of data in this experiment. When exposed to hot and cold temperatures, some
enzymes were found to denature causing the activity to decrease. Similarly, when the pH was too high
or low, then the catechol oxidase enzyme experienced a significant decrease in activity. It can be
concluded after completing this experiment that the optimal pH for catechol oxidase is 7 and that the
prime temperature is 20º C. Due to the fact that the catechol oxidase was only tested under several
different temperatures and pH values, it is always possible to get a more precise result by decreasing
the increments between the test values. However, our experiment was able to produce accurate results
as to the

In 1603, Peter s duke sent Peter on a diplomatic mission to Spain where he made an equestrian portrait of the Duke of Lerma. • 7. handmaids tale Essay The central social hierarchy within the novel is the gender hierarchy, placing men in a position of extreme power. This is evident in every aspect of the book, as the entire Gilead society is male dominated. The Commander is at the top of the hierarchy and is involved with designing and establishing the current society taking control of a nation of women, and exploiting their power by controlling what is taught, what they can teach themselves and the words that they can use. • 8. Northern Colonies Similarities The first permanent North American colony was established in 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia. This was the first colony established in the southern territory of the Americas. Years later in 1620, Plymouth, Massachusetts became the first northern colony established in the Americas. Although both were established around the same time period and both originated from Britain, it was evident from the beginning that their motives were different. Most colonies settling in the north were attempting to flee religious persecution, while Southern colonies were founded for economic gain. Although there were some apparent similarities in the beginning, the colonies began to develop different economic systems, religious views, and government. Therefore, the statement that the north and south had more similarities than differences is not valid. The north and south had drastically different ecosystems, shaping two completely different economic systems. The northern territories had a cooler climate as well as poor soil, allowing only the production of staple crops, making it very hard to create an economy based on trade from agricultural production. In contrast, the south had very fertile soil with a warmer climate. This allowed the South s economy to rely on cash crops. The South s primary crop was tobacco, which was very successful, leading to huge profit. Tobacco was in very high demand, creating enormous plantations that required large labor forces. • 9. Leviathan, By Thomas Hobbes In Leviathan, by Thomas Hobbes, he talks about nature, man, liberty, and other topics. Mr. Hobbes says that nature hath made men so equal, but how can we determine how they are equal? We can say everyone is equal before they come into the world, except when they are actually in the world, no one is the same. Everyone is different in some way, whether it be with respect, money, or just social gains. One man can claim any benefit to his satisfaction, but is it only satisfying to himself or others? What makes this satisfying? Something s can be satisfying while others find them horrifying. For example, in the real world there are psychopaths that murder people and do other totally absurd things. The normal people find this disturbing, and might find football satisfying to them, but then again, who defines what is normal about a person. Without a common power to keep all men in awe, they are in war. Every man is for themselves and just fighting to be the best, but how can this be? Why can t we all just accept who each other is, instead of fighting for who can be the best? When men are in war with each other, they have no common sense between justice and injustice actions. They block everything out and go on a totally aggressive offensive scheme. All they care about is coming on top and destroying whoever they are at war with, but why does there have to be war at all? Most people go to war for items and to show who is best, but can there never be war? The answer is no, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the Pesmen Rubin Art Studios expired, Disney and Iwerks formed their own company, and were introduced to cut out animation by a colleague, Fred Harman. When Disney soon learned about cel animation and saw how much more promising it would be than cut out animation, the three men created what they called Laugh O Grams, and screen Disney s cartoons at the most popular showman s movie theater in Kansas City. He went beyond the bounds of his power, forced thousands of natives off their land down the trail of tears , and claimed to fight for common individuals , a group which apparently only includes free white men. Today, many of our previous historical figures have become controversial from a moral and political standpoint, especially Andrew Jackson. When Andrew Jackson became President, he gained executive control over all of the land. REASONS FOR HIM NOT BEEN A HERO Columbus gets a lot of credit for discovering land that already had people living on it, a land that has already been encountered by other people way before Columbus was even born. In 70,000 to 12,000 B.C. Siberia explorers sailed to Alaska. In 10,000 600 B.C., Siberians also went to Canada and the state we now call New Mexico. Around 1311 and 1460 explorers from West Africa came across to Haiti, Panama, and Brazil (Loewen 48). These were only a few of the many encounters of the Americas. A result of these explorations was the establishment of Indian villages and the life they began to lead. There is not enough time to do an adequate amount of characterization, which is why many films fail to accurately portray a character. The Cohen Brother s film True Grit, an adaptation of the novel by Charles Portis, created a better portrayal of the character of Mattie Ross, the feisty, head strong, and tough young girl. Through costume and set design, as well as the narrative choices the directors chose to take, the resilient, no nonsense, bratty young girl was brought to life. In the book, Mattie Ross is a very feisty, head strong, and tough young girl. Mattie does not let her age get in the way of anything she sets off to do and is never afraid to give some lip when needed. The US marine occupation began in 1912 and continued to 1925, ended, and then occurred again from 1926 till 1933. During this time period, there were a variety of reasons for the US occupation of Nicaragua. The most prominent reason seemed to be the geography of Nicaragua. Holding Nicaragua gave the United States an area that would allow, first of all, US influence over more of Central America, as Nicaragua is right in the middle of Central America, and, second of all, it was seen as an area suitable for a transoceanic waterway . Since Nicaragua borders both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, a canal connecting the two would be fairly feasible. The Impact of Temperature and pH on the Enzyme Activity of Catechol Oxidase in Solanum Tuberosum Samples Abstract The role of an enzyme is to catalyse reactions within a cell. The enzyme present in a potato (Solanum Tuberosum) is catechol oxidase. In this experiment, the enzyme activity was tested under different temperature and pH conditions. The objective of this experiment was to determine the ideal conditions under which catechol oxidase catalyses reactions. In order to do this, catechol was catalyzed by catechol oxidase into benzoquinone at diverse temperatures and pH values. The enzyme was exposed to its new environment for 5 minutes before the absorbance of the catechol oxidase was measured at 420 nm using a spectrophotometer. The use of a spectrophotometer was crucial for the collection of data in this experiment. When exposed to hot and cold temperatures, some enzymes were found to denature causing the activity to decrease. Similarly, when the pH was too high or low, then the catechol oxidase enzyme experienced a significant decrease in activity. It can be concluded after completing this experiment that the optimal pH for catechol oxidase is 7 and that the prime temperature is 20º C. Due to the fact that the catechol oxidase was only tested under several different temperatures and pH values, it is always possible to get a more precise result by decreasing the increments between the test values.
