The yield spread is defined as the difference between the yield on a corporate bond
and a comparable government bond. Prior to a study done by Merton (1974) yield
spreads were considered to be mainly driven by expected default losses on corporate
bonds, tax premiums and risk premiums (Radier et al, 2015). However, Merton
(1974) and more recent research has shown that factors such as equity volatility,
liquidity, interest rate levels and the slope of the treasury term structure are also
significant factors in determining changes in the yield spread (Radier et al, 2013;
Lepone Wong, 2009; Peter Grandes, 2007; Collin Dufresne, Goldstein Martin, 2001).
2.1 Equity Volatility
One of the three factors which Merton (1974) found to be a significant determinant
of the yield spread was the probability of default as indicated by the firm specific
equity volatility on the stock market. Merton (1974) predicted a positive relationship
between equity volatility and the yield spread. According to Merton (1974), a short
put option on the equity of a company is equivalent to a corporate bond issued by that
company. This means that any individual corporate bond yield should have a positive
relationship with the equity value of the firm (Jubinski Lipton, 2012).

The Creepy Old lady
The old woman across the street is sleeping with her dead boyfriend. In the story A
Rose for Emily, the author, William Faulkner, enlightens his readers about an old,
burden of a woman named Emily. He goes back into time and list events in her life
that led up to the shocking conclusion when the reader finds out she has been
sleeping with her dead sweetheart. This main ending leaves all readers in shock and
their stomachs a little weak. In my instance the story built up my curiosity with
pieces to a puzzle that I tried to solve, and I was able to put them together at the end
to visualize the shocking conclusion.
My initial curios reaction to the short story A rose for Emily began right off the back
when Faulkner states when Miss Emily Grierson died (121). This was Faulkner s
way of introducing the reader to the main character Emily. This would leave any
reader questioning who exactly is this Emily girl, and how did she die. I realize
Emily is the main character not too shortly after and expected to learn more about
her in the story. Another episode in the story that sparked my initial curious reaction
is when Faulkner explains to the reader that the townspeople thought of Emily as a
tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the town (121) The
four descriptive words tradition, duty, care, and obligation, all triggered me to
wonder why she was such a hassle to the townspeople. This is what Faulkner wanted

To solve this identity crisis, I believe all ethnic groups should stick to their roots
and embrace their unique culture to create a mosaic society. Similar to a mosaic
that uses many different colored glasses to create a beautiful piece of art, people
should value and appreciate their differences from others. Instead of being
submissive and following American societal norms, cultures should strive to build
cultural, political, social, and economic communities that appreciate and
emphasize the richness of their own individual cultures and realize that trying to
educate racist people is not the best use of our energy. As a result, everyone can

The blues, a genre of music so well known and so universal, that one knows is
associated with black culture; and forever connected to it. However, some may
argue that not anyone can play the blues and blues is only black music. That being

contrast I strongly believe anyone can play the blues because music is the purest form

The story Araby takes place in the winter, the end of North Richmond St. The main
character in the narrator, a boy who is infatuated with his friend s sister. He has

One day however, the girl takes interest in him, asking if he will attend Araby, in
the bazaar. The boy responds he will. In fact, he will purchase something for her

Steven Spielberg s Jaws And Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg is a director who has made many movies including Jaws (1975) and
Jurassic Park (1993). Both Jaws and Jurassic Park show animals behaving in the way
that nature intended them to behave. However, in Jaws the animal finds himself
trapped in an unnatural environment, an inlet where humans swim. In Jurassic Park,
animals that became extinct millions of years ago, dinosaurs, also find themselves in
unnatural environment occupied by humans. I want to compare these two movies
because I enjoy action movies and thrillers. Also they were both made before I was
born and I have only seen them now for the first time. Both movies hold the audience
attention from the very beginning and you feel yourself going through the emotions
that the actors display. Steven Spielberguses nature in both films as his theme to
develop his story. In Jawsthere is a great white shark that terrorizes a small island
town and in Jurassic Park there are manufactured dinosaurs that are developed out of
altered DNA that terrorize an island that was to be a theme park.
In Jaws there is a large white shark who seems to be unstoppable. The movie begins
with an unsuspecting girl swimming when the shark comes up on her and kills her.
From the moment the movie begins the viewer knows who the villain is. The cast
consists of Roy Schneider as Chief Brody who struggles throughout the movie to do

2.3 Ingredients Decomposition Oxidizer and binder decomposition play very

4 EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON COLLEGE STUDENTS Statement of
Problem To address the issue of the effectiveness of using social networking, the

Using David Kolb s Model Of Experimental Learning
Recently I have participated in the continuous improvement project at my work to
improve productivity and to recreate a process. The name of the project was
Kaizen 2016. The Japanese term KAI and ZEN literally mean to change and for
the better and it has come to symbolize continuous improvement. I am trying to put
this whole project together by using David Kolb s model of experimental learning.
1.Concrete Experience The main goal of the project was to increase productivity
by decreasing the time being wasted. The manager, who took all the responsibility
of the project and five team members were part of the team. There was a project
sponsor, who guided us and projected our ideas. This project started on August 9th,
2016. In the first meeting, we all sat in the conference room together. Not a sound
came from any of us. Finally, after several minutes, what I felt like an hour, I
simply had to say something. I asked, Why do we need to change the process? One
member of the team, said, We need to change it because I think we are wasting too
much time on other things. Another person, a senior woman, said, I don t think so
we need to change the process. I am comfortable with the current one. Others
laughed. I thought to myself: I didn t want to be in a group with people who didn t
take the project matter seriously. When the meeting ended, my perceptions of the
group had somehow changed. Maybe this was a good group to be in after all. Some
members had similar interests
