1.1summarise the Development of the Uk Popular Music...
1.1Summarise the development of the UK popular music recording industry from the 1950 s to the
present day.
50 s
The 1950 s represent the beginning of the development of the music industry, as it is known today. It
is from here on that the genre of popular music existed and began to dominate the charts. Of course,
there were acts that existed before the 50 s, and made a good name for them selves, acts like Bing
Crosby, but it was in the 50 s that certain artists became household names, and idols to the masses.
The first, and most iconic of these artistes, is of course, Elvis Presley. After making a name for him
self in the states, Elvis music then began to cross the border into other countries, and continents. Elvis

Playing the guitar in ways never seen before, Clapton was hailed as a god, and the genre of blues was
re instated into the music industry. Clapton then went on to form the first super group . In 1966,
Cream were formed, and by combining Clapton s bluesy styles with the more rocky style of Jack
Bruce and Ginger Baker, Cream created a new genre of blues rock. Zepplin could also be credited for
pioneering this genre. It was this genre that got Cream and Zeppelin noticed in the US.
In 1964, Top of the Pops was born. Like previous music shows, it was a showcase of musical talent.
The show went down brilliantly in the UK, with mass numbers watching the show each week to catch
a glimpse of their idols. All the current acts at the time were called to play on the show, and it was
great publicity for each act. Top of the Pops continued for many decades. Also in 64, new musical
technologies were developed and brought to the mainstream market, such things as organs. This
allowed acts to create new sounds push the boundaries of popular music even further.
Into the 2nd half of the decade came the arrival of The Rolling Stones and The Who. These continued
along the Blues Rock path pioneered by Cream and Zeppelin, and both had great success. It was these
acts that led to the nickname, the swinging 60 s . 1966 saw the beginning of psychedelic music. It was
The Beatles who first began to experiment like this. Adding new

Ivan Denisovich Answers
The author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn throughout the book One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
brings up the question of how to make life meaningful, in this case, in the darkest circumstances. Ivan
Denisovich Shukhov, the main character, lives a normal day in his life of suffering prisoner to a gulag
camp. The book offers interpretations that leads to answers to the central question mentioned
previously. Answers vary from making meaning in life by being unique and standing out as an
individual, meeting people in which to bond and live with, and coming to terms with one s
circumstances in life. This would affect a reader s understanding of the work as a whole by putting the
whole situation in a new view in which one can truly see the struggle ... Show more content on

In this novel the prevailing question is how to live life with a sense of significance, the prisoners in the
gulag camp undergo ghastly conditions but by making peace with how their life is they can move on
and continue a positive life. Shukhov is a prime example in which case he is unchanged by the camp,
he keeps strict morals and has a specific code of ethics all the while braving through the heinous gulag
camp. The storyteller states, At five o clock that morning reveille was sounded [...] The clanging
ceased, but everything outside still looked like the middle of the night when ivan Denisovich Shukhov
got up to go to the bucket [...] He always got up at once, for the next ninety minutes, until they
assembled for work (Solzhenitsyn 6), this statement of Shukhov s actions would prove how he lived
with a purpose and went straight to work. Shukhov wakes earlier than the rest then works hard and
relentlessly, by being strong in this case and coming to terms with how his life is currently he
continues as if everything is normal and just focuses on doing what he can, which is working hard. If
people are stuck on the negative aspects of life and how they are powerless to some things it overall
creates a pessimistic view which makes life worse in quality. By accepting everything Shukhov
focuses on what is possible and strives after working hard which makes his life leaps and bounds more
enthusiastic than someone who dwells on the unalterable, gloomy parts of existence. The prisoners use
the harsh conditions of the gulag camp as a way to strengthen themselves, the spectator mentions, and
the longer he spent at the camp the stronger he made himself (Solzhenitsyn 56). By getting over the
worst parts of life and just doing your best with what you can people become more fortified and are
able to live life with more bravado than others. By being diligent and focusing on what is possible

Qualitative Critique Of A Qualitative Study
Qualitative Critique Paper: Critique of a Qualitative Study Grace Fahham Shenandoah University
What was the purpose of the study? The purpose of this qualitative study was to describe how
occupational therapists involved client centred activities in daily living (CADL) in their practice. This
was done by reviewing the therapist s experiences and reflections about their interaction with clients
that suffered from a stroke. The study involved coding of three categories. These categories included:
1) Sharing an understanding as the point of departure, 2) Sharing through experiences, and 3)
Challenges in applying the CADL. How were the participants recruited? This study was involved in
the LAS II (a multicenter cluster randomized controlled trial). There was an intervention group,
receiving the CADL, as well as a control group, receiving the normal ADL intervention. Chosen for
the study in LAS II were those treated for an acute stroke in a stroke unit less than three months or
three months after the stroke occurred. In addition, those eligible for the study had to have met the
following conditions: be dependent in at least two ADL s, not having been diagnosed with dementia,
able to fully understand and follow instructions, were referred for rehabilitation to one of the 16 units
participating in LAS II. In this study, the occupational therapists were participants recruited as well.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Integrated Water Resource...
Integrated Water Resources Management
There have been several interpretations as well as critisms with the concept of Integrated Water
Resources Management (IWRM). For instance, Biswas (2008) criticize that the concept cannot be
implemented operationally. However, Mitchell B (2004) finds it to be greater at the normative (what
ought to be) and strategic (what can be) level which may result to the provision of different framework
for different types of approaches.
Placht (2007) said that IWRM is a principle intended as guide in project planning. However, the
widely used definition of IWRM is the one formulated by Global Water Partnership (GWP) which
defined IWRM as a process that promotes the co ordinated development and management of water, ...

Through IWRM concept, there is a way or process that can be followed in managing water resources,
though not necessarily applicable to all countries, and even still with some limitations and questions.
As a progress in water resource management, IWRM improves traditional approaches. In contrast to
the traditional water resources management approach, IWRM scopes and proceeds in an integrated
manner versus sectoral/project focus scope. IWRM approaches problem solving taking into
consideration all related sectors as oppose to traditional that focuses on sectoral need and benefit.
Conflicts are resolved not only within users but within uses too. Finally, with broad participation of
stakeholders as oppose to limited participation only.
In a nutshell, IWRM is a well conceptualized principle backed with well written definition, accepted
and heavily promoted by funding agencies. With this it attracts many doubts and criticism, in its every
aspect. However, if IWRM is too beautiful yet too impossible to implement, what could be the best or
alternative water management approach that could work both for the present and the future? If IWRM
has some gaps and comes with some doubts, cannot it be

Issues of the Legalized Female Prostitution in the...
Receiving money to perform sexual actions has become either a lifestyle choice or a hostile option for
the female prostitutes in the Netherlands, particularly in the city of Amsterdam. The participants
involved in the legalized policy of prostitution are subjected to ambiguous impacts which involve
social, political, health, and economic divisions. Since prostitution was legalized as of the year 2000,
Amsterdam has seen a decline in criminal activity, allowing workers an increase in autonomy, and
provides better labor conditions. (Cruz, Iterson, 2013). ). The legalization of prostitution may have
aided some of these women from escaping entrapment from pimps or has helped them into becoming
independent women. An estimated 20,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Vanderstok, 2010). The stereotypical association with sex workers is that they originate from
disturbed or traumatic lifestyles, while some do enter prostitution through the forms of sex trafficking
and other related incidents, there are others who independently choose to become a sex worker or
prostitute. According to research, women that have been introduced to trafficking networks derive
either from forcefulness from groups or have deliberately chosen to enter the workforce of the sex
industry. (Barrett, Melrose, 2006). Even though sex trafficking is one way of entering the sex industry
in the Netherlands, it is not always perceived as a highly reviewed decision by the women who choose
to take such a path. While the conditions of these actions are not expected in the decision process,
some women may feel that trafficking will aid in the escape of their country of origins current
conditions, whether it be from social, economic, or political reasons. (Barrett, Melrose, 2006). Sex
trafficking is one method of entry into the sex industry in the Netherlands, which is why they began
the process of legalizing prostitution in the hopes of slowing or stopping this particular method within
their country with regulations. Within Barrett and Melrose s research, they elaborate on reasons why
sex trafficking is an issue in Europe. Since sex trafficking is a demand driven product, it tends to
generate into a lucrative business for groups that associate

The Prairies Essay example
The term romantic is defined as literature depicting emotional matter in an imaginative form (Morner).
Romanticism was a cultural movement in the eighteenth century that had an impact on in many areas
including music, art, and literature. The movement that Romanticism put forth was so powerful that
today, scholars refer to it as a revolution that took place in rebellion against the austere views of
groups like the Puritans from the previous centuries. Many images of nature in the writing at this time,
as well as writers, encompass sympathetic interests in the past. One particular piece, William Cullen
Bryant s The Prairies captures an strong sympathetic look to the past.

Bryant shows his appreciation for those who come before in saying, Man s better nature triumphed
then. (L 79) After continual expansion of the American colonies, many Indian tribes were forced to
leave their native land and move westward. Bryant explains that this had a major impact on the mound
people, The red man came/ The roaming hunter tribes, warlike and fierce, / And the mound builders
vanished from the earth (L 58 61). Then Bryant becomes extremely compassionate for the vanquished
mound people when he says, All—save the piles of earth that hold their bones / The platforms where
they worshipped unknown gods / The barriers which they builded from the soil/ To keep the foe at
bay—till o er the walls/ The wild beleaguerers broke, and one by one, / The strong holds of the plain
were forced, and heaped/ With corpses (L 64 71). After taking over the prairies form the mound
people, the Indians then lived peacefully until they again come in contact with the colonists. The
colonist way on life is what again forces the Indians to leave because all of the bison had been killed.
Later in the poem Bryant then shows sympathetic feelings toward the Indians after their way of life
was changed by the colonists when he states, The white man s face—among Missouri s springs,/ And
pools whose issues swell the Oregan,/ He rears his little Venice. In the plains/ The bison feeds no more

Reflection Paper On Regular Council Meeting
Regular City Council Meeting
I have always prided myself as a person who knows virtually everything that happens around my
community. It is common for humans to judge or misjudge what they do not know or understand. Too
often we are quick to criticize and lash after what other people say or do simply because we do not
understand it. This fact describes the character and attitude of many people especially when it comes
to politics and how a country is run right from the top to the bottom. The average people is generally
unconcerned with political affairs like how politicians spend their tax money. You only need to look at
the dismally low voter turn out to confirm this fact. This should to change and for me, this change
came on 26th October 2017, when I decided to attend The Tempe City Regular Council Meeting. I had
never attended such a meeting before. Part of the reason is perhaps owing to the attitude of most
people as I explained earlier but more particularly, I had not seen any local issue that moved me
enough to demand the necessity to have my voice heard or to be curious enough to want to find out
about the secrets of the operations of the local government. Generally, I knew that the decisions made
and policies developed by the city government affected my life directly or indirectly. However, to sit
and watch all the work and grind that goes to the formulation of these policies and decisions has made
me realize that democracy is not self driving.
The Chambers
After completing my classes for the day, I went directly to Tempe City Hall City Council Chambers
which is housed in the Harry E. Mitchell Government Center. As I got in two minutes before the
official starting time, the room was almost fully occupied but I was lucky to secure a seat at a position
where I could follow the proceedings comfortably. The chamber is divided into two seating areas one
for the Council Members and the other for the members of the public. The two areas face each other
and are separated in the middle by a corridor that connects to two main entrance/exit points. The area
accommodating the councilmembers is at a relatively elevated angle compared to the area where the
citizens sit to facilitate easy and effective engagement.

Nuclear Weapons During The Cold War
Since the invention of nuclear weapons, they have presented the world with a significant danger, one
that was shown in reality during the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, nuclear weapons
have not only served in combat, but they have also played a role in keeping the world peaceful by the
concept of deterrence. The usage of nuclear weapons would lead to mutual destruction and during the
Cold War, nuclear weapons were necessary to maintain international security, as a means of
deterrence. However, by the end of the Cold War, reliance on nuclear weapons for maintaining peace
became increasingly difficult and less effective (Shultz, et. al, 2007). The development of technology
has also provided increasing opportunities for states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, it also presents perspectives on important policies and strategies of Iran and North
Korea, in regard to the development of their armory of nuclear weapons.
Since the end of the Cold War, the cases of nuclear proliferation in Iran and North Korea have
gathered enormous international attention. Iran s nuclear program appeared as a result of the Cold War
alliance between the United States and the late Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. In 2003, Iran
was suspected of developing a military nuclear capability and is now developing medium and
intermediate ballistic missiles, which are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. On the other hand,
North Korea set off a nuclear device and declared suspicions about a military nuclear program in
2006. Iran and North Korea have recently started cooperation to develop multi stage ballistic missiles
and have conducted several missile flight tests over the last few years (Schmid, 2008).
With sources dating back to the late 1960s, North Korea s nuclear weapons program has expanded to
be a useful instrument of the government s security. Its principal motivations for developing the
nuclear weapons are as follows: to block foreign pressure, create an international impact and preserve
the terms and conditions of the DPRK (ruling party of North Korea). In contrast, Iran s motivations to
develop strategic weapons appear to be more complex than that of North Korea. Iran s efforts to
develop nuclear, chemical and

Kazuo Ishiguro Genre Analysis
The first question asked in the readings and discussions that we went through in class is what exactly
is the meaning of genre. To me personally, the word genre is it describes either a novel, film, video
game or music by certain generic ideas or rules of what defines that specific genre. Stories can be
described through narrative forms, such as if the writing piece is either a short story, a novel or even a
poem or narration. Also, stories can even be characterized by either similar themes or settings and/or if
they follow a certain structure such as if a book is either defined as comedy or drama.
Daniel Chandler explains perfectly in An Introduction to Genre Theory how genre is not always
straightforward in defining things such as stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also discuss certain books that they have written and how some people have complained that it
shouldn t be classified as a fantasy novel. Both explain how genres are now being mixed and that
sometimes, a book cannot be labeled by just one specific type of genre. I agree with some of Neil
Gaiman s statements, such as how he states that the subject of the book doesn t determine genre and
that genres only exist when there s an abundance of novels that fit that specific genre. I both partly
agree and disagree with Kazuo Ishiguro. I agree with how he believes that there are certain patterns
that are associated with the genre, however, many readers and writers take these specifications too
seriously, and believe that if you don t follow the certain standards of what makes a specific genre,
they believe that it is strange. However, I don t agree with Ishiguro when he states Books are serving
the same function as certain brands of cars or jewelry, in just denoting social position. That kind of
motivation attaches itself to reading in a way that probably doesn t attach itself to film (Ishiguro 7). I
believe that film can also motivate people the same way that books can motivate

Analysis Of Film Production Of The Merchant Of Venice
Film Review
Michael Radford s 2004 film production of The Merchant of Venice provides a well executed and
generally faithful rendition of Shakespeare s play. Radford s production especially succeeds in both its
casting and set design that elevates the mood and drama contained in Shakespeare s text. In addition to
the filming, particular attention was taken to following the original text, but some interesting in
liberties in plot details were taken. Radford s production serves as an exemplar of film adaptions of
Shakespeare s play; it takes the challenge of adapting the text to the screen with excellent casting, bold
filming, and well imagined sets. Jeremy Irons as Antonio, the merchant, gives a convincing mix of
optimism converted to pessimism as he prepares for his death in the court. Perhaps the best casting, Al
Pacino plays an excellent Shylock that initially invokes the movie watcher s empathy then turns
quickly into an enraged, psychopathic persona reminiscent to his characters in Scarface or Godfather.
Particularly, Pacino shows off his talent in the famous Hath not a Jew eyes monologue where Pacino
takes us through a full emotional range of compassion, sympathy, to scorching rage. Similarly,
Radford uses this scene to show off his directorial chops: the scene uses a follow shot in which the
camera follows Pacino s character as he crosses the dark Venetian streets, through a brothel to find
Antonio s comrades, and back into the streets where the heart of his

They felt as though they should be able to use any means necessary to prevent crime and disable

Judicial system.
The question for the courts was does this follow the rules of evidentiary collection and was the search
performed according to the law? The court decided it was not. The allowance of letting the police
department to make the standards as they go along and to perform their duties by any means necessary

result from giving an officer a blank check for search and seizures. It also contributes to an all

Both members of the public as well as the police force itself must have rules and standards to protect
people on all sides. This ideology allows people to feel comfortable in their jobs and in their lives.

Essay On How To Grow Tomato From A Seedling
How to Grow Tomatoes from a Seedling
Growing tomatoes is a simple and rewarding task, and more people should be growing them. This
paper walks readers through the main steps for growing and maintaining patio tomatoes from a
seedling.
The first step in growing tomatoes is determining if you have the appropriate available space and
sunlight to grow them. All tomato varieties require full sunlight, which means at least six hours of
direct sun every day. If you have south facing windows or a patio or backyard that receives direct
sunlight, you should be able to grow tomatoes. Choose the location that receives the most sun.
Next, you need to find the right seedling. Growing tomatoes and other vegetables from seeds can be

The containers can be used in the house, on a patio, or anywhere in the backyard, and they are
portable. Containers also tend to better regulate moisture and drain excess water. Choose a container
that is at least 10 inches in diameter and at least 1 foot deep. This will provide sufficient room for root
development.
In addition to the container, you also need the appropriate soil mixture and draining mechanisms. For
the best drainage, fill the bottom of your container with 2 or 3 inches of gravel. On top of the gravel,
fill ¾ of the container with soil. Choose a well balanced organic soil. The three main ingredients you
will find described on soil bags are N P K that is, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Without going
into too much detail about the role of each element in plant growth, I will tell you that an average
vegetable will grow fine in a 10 5 5 mixture. This ratio, too, will be easy to find at your local nursery.
Once you have the gravel in the bottom of the container and the soil on top, you are ready to transplant
the tomato. Pick up the tomato in the plastic container it comes in from the nursery. Turn it upside
down, and holding the stem between your fingers, pat the bottom lightly several times, and the plant
should fall into your hand. Next, you should gently break up the root ball that formed in the nursery
container with your hands. Be gentle, but be sure to

Communities in Contact:
How Conflicting Ideals Can Shape a Community
If we do not have contact with others, would defining who we are even be necessary? The answer is
no. If there were no other groups in which we communicated with, we would not need to separate
ourselves. It is through interactions with other groups that we decide what will distinguish us as a
people. This can mean the absorption of another s ideals or the complete rejection of them. Either way,
the contact is necessary for defining every community. Contact with other communities, be it trade

They began equating spices with luxury and eventually magic. However, unlike modern times, these
two concepts were linked to a negative connotation. In her piece detailing the spice trade, Pollard even

excess or luxury and instead valued a hardworking, practical life (though their definition of such a life
was most assuredly different than current ideas). Beyond just establishing societal values, this open
trade allowed for a growth in the economy and in literature. Many authors went to write stories based
on these spices. They wrote of witches and mages that used these herbs to cast dreadful spells. Art is a

The Oresteia
Instead of saying The Oresteia is a tragic trilogy that many people are killed, it would be more
appropriate to generalize it as the extension and the termination of vendetta. Even though Oresteia
doesn t cover the origin of the whole feud of the twins, Atreus and Thyestes, the whole trilogy never
digresses from the main theme: revenge. As the first observable vendetta in the trilogy, Clytemnestra s
revenge to Agamemnon is dramatic and thought provoking with the specialty of her role in her family
and her reasons to kill Agamemnon in the story.
For the mariticide in Agamemnon, reflecting Clytemnestra s attitude to Agamemnon is way more

In today s ethic, we may condemn everyone who murders his family members no matter who they are.
But in pre modern society, people normally rebuke and disdain those who murders his/her bloodlines
because it is a betrayal to their parents or their own blood. In line 1529, Clytemnestra describes
Agamemnon s bloodline killing and his death that with the sword he struck; with the sword he paid for
his own act. This indicates another reason that Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon: to punish those
who betrayed their bloodlines. Since Iphigeneia is the daughter of both Agamemnon and
Clytemnestra, killing Agamemnon is definitely reasonable to Clytemnestra. Nevertheless,
Clytemnestra is also the member of Agamemnon family, what will people think if she murders her
husband? People might not judge the murderer in the mariticide or uxoricide as heavy as those murder
the bloodlines because sexual partners don t share the blood from the same parents during pre modern

Modernism Vs Imperialism
Modernization has always been the objective for growing colonies and empires. The current
generation of today s time still aims to modernize and grow as a nation. However, the past holds many
mistakes and misconceptions about how the world can continue to modernize given specific
circumstances and factors. Today, historians, citizens and many others look over these past events and
learn from the complications made from previous leaders. One great example of a horrific imperial
occurrence is portrayed by King Leopold II of Belgium. Within his time of ruling he displayed
manipulation, ignorance and gruesome consequences of corruption. He took the opportunity to create
prosperity out of the Congo Free State and turned it cold with unethical dishonesty, brutality and
corrupt power. With all of his planning going to waste, King Leopold showed all of history how
combining imperialism with modernity can turn to the absolute worst for humanity. To begin,
imperialism had always been a long term system of governing. Empires were built, colonies were
created, and growth occurred to make today s world. It was always seen that the king of an empire
knew what was best for his nation. He was given the power to make impacting decisions and lead his
empire to success. However, many kings were found corrupted and abused their powers for their own
benefit. King Leopold used his skills to try to persuade his people and neighboring nations into

horrible thing. Studies have shown that physical abuse has dropped astonishingly, from 1992 to 2011
the rates dropped by 55%. The same thing happened to counts of sexual abuse, it fell by 64% through
the same year range. The number of abductions by strangers fell by 51% from 1997 to 2012, and
motor vehicle deaths of children under 13 years of age fell 43% in the last decade (Baer). This study
equates the drops to the rise of helicopter parents. Although counts of physical harm have dropped, an
in depth study was done by Florida State University that surveyed around 460 college students about
their life satisfaction levels. Those who had been raised by parents who gave them a larger sense of
autonomy reported higher levels of satisfaction in life and those who reported having helicopter
parents reported low levels of self efficacy, and higher levels of anxiety and depression ( Helicopter
Parents ). So, even though accidents and physical harm to children have been reduced, the
psychological harm is quite prominent and will follow the child throughout their

Qualitative And Quantitative
Introduction
This chapter aims in pertaining to the ways of producing and analysing data so that theories can be
tested, accepted and rejected. Since, this study is based on Form V repeaters disposition to study
mathematics in the Mauritian schools, the only way to assure the latest update associated with validity
and reliability of the data is to conduct a research. In order to have a deep understanding of the second
year students, a mixture of different method will be used which include both the qualitative and
quantitative methods.
Qualitative and quantitative research
In a nutshell, there are two main broad approaches used in the investigation of phenomenon which
include; the qualitative and the quantitative approach. One of the main objectives of qualitative
research is to provide a specific and detailed description of the research topic as it is more explanatory
in nature. The qualitative research mainly deals with verbal data rather than measurements and the
employed are mostly observation and interviews. It also has a subjective approach as it seeks to
identify human behaviour and the reasons that direct such behaviour. However, since the researcher is
heavily involved in the process, he or she tends to interpret the data obtained according to their own
biased views which skews the data gathered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes use of tools such as questionnaires, surveys, measurement and other measureable data. The
quantitative research is mainly objective in its approach in the sense that it only seeks precise
measurements. It has to be noted the structure of the quantitative research design has remained static
for centuries. Therefore it has kept its standardise format across many scientific fields and disciplines.
The main strength of making use of this approach is that, it is an excellent way of finalising results

Online Dating Services and Mister Wrong Essay
As a happily pre engaged woman, with a pre engagement ring, I have no reason to scan the listings of
the ubiquitous dating services on the Web. Yet, ever since I saw the ad, Get Your Flirt On!, curiosity
has gotten the better of me. I spend most of my time in search of eligible men, but I also search for
eligible women. When I first looked at the men in my zip code, I told myself that I was looking for
matches for my friends. But in truth I cannot think of a faster way to lose my single friends than
telling them I have been looking for their perfect match online. So I admit it. I like to see who is
available even though I am not.
A lot of the men are obviously Mister Wrong. Take the man who says he prefers thin, athletic women

I give them credit for daring something I would not, but I still would not have dinner with them. The
ones who write, well I m kinda new at this but thought I should give it a shot, are not very goal
oriented. Those who write, I believe in magic, do you? make me squirm in my chair. And the ones
who say, I am a student in the school of life make me wonder, aren t we all?
Some of the men have potential. The man who says he looks like Ernest Hemingway but does not
have the sexual hang ups might be worth a shot if he weren t three decades my senior. And the one
who said I m a bad dancer, but a good listener sounds promising.
But still, on the whole these men remind me of how happy I am to be a pre engaged woman. When I
look at all the frogs I might have had to kiss, I am glad for my prince, even if he is from a 12 year old
fairytale that is very familiar.
When I finish surveying the men in a given zip code, I look at the women in the same zip code to see
if I can match them up. The man who says he expects breakfast in bed on the first date would be a
good match for the woman wearing a leopard print halter and posing provocatively. The practicing

Child Labor In Oliver Twist By Charles Dickens
Do you enjoy being young and privileged? Do you enjoy being able to play as much as you want?
How does it feel, not having spend your childhood working in a factory? You have the chance to live
freely, be a kid, go places, hangout with your friends, etc. Unfortunately, life wasn t that easy in the
victorian period.
In the Victorian Period, the workforce and the economy gained profit off of child labor. Most kids
were forced into child labor during the Victorian Period. Other kids had to help take care of their
families. The government allowed child labor because it brought success into the economy.
Children had tons of energy, they were susceptible, or gullible, and they lacked the ability to revolt
against injustices (child labor).
In the book, Oliver spends most of his days working in return of small meals, no education, and a ...

He, himself, was apart of and took heed in the Industrial Revolution. The reason being was to put an
end to child labor once and for all. Many of his works, including Oliver Twist, deals with the issue of
child labor. For example, in Oliver Twist, Dickens brings out the plight of the children during his
experience.
In Oliver Twist, Dickens wrote The deep remembrance ............. of the misery it was to my young
heart to believe that day by day, what I had learned and thought and delighted in and raised my fancy
and emulation up by was passing away from me......... cannot be written. As a child labour, he would
dine on a slice of pudding and for his twelve hour daily labour, receive a meager wage of six shillings
a week (Oliver Twist).
In a biography journal about Dickens, a passage states that His early life is a current element in most
of his novels. The bitter experiences of his childhood helped him to empathize his topics. The main
problems Dickens mentioned in Oliver Twist were the deplorable conditions of children in the

Albert Einstein Dropping The Atomic Bombs
Albert Einstein did not directly participate in the manufacturing of the atomic bomb, but his research
and theories were critical to advancing its development. The atomic bombs built back during World
War 2 that were dropped on Japan depended on nuclear fission to create their explosions. Nuclear
fission is the splitting of a heavy atom into smaller pieces. This process releases an enormous amount
of energy. The bomb (Little Boy) dropped over Hiroshima worked by firing a mass of uranium 235
into another mass of uranium 235, which created a chain reaction. The bomb (Fat Man) dropped over
Nagasaki worked by placing plutonium 239 into the center of a hollowed out sphere of intense
explosive devices. These explosive devices would be triggered

The Big Bang Theory Essay
Astronomers believed the Universe was created about 14 billion years ago. During that time, the entire
Universe was inside a bubble that was thousands of times smaller than a pinhead, and it was insanely
hot and dense. Out of nowhere this little bubble started expanding. This expansion created what we
know as the Universe. In such little time the Universe went from the size of an atom to the ginormous
galaxy we have that is continuously growing. According to the Big Bang Theory the universe
appeared as a singularity. Singularities are thought to exist at the core of black holes. These zones of
infinite density are called singularities. Our universe is thought to have begun extremely small,
infinitely hot, and infinitely dense. As time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This observation means that it has taken every galaxy the same amount of time to move from a
starting position to its current position. This observation is called Hubble s Law, named after Edwin
Hubble (1889 1953) who discovered this in 1929. Edwin Hubble s evidence supports the expansion of
the universe and suggests that the universe was once compacted. Third, if the universe was insanely
hot as the Big Bang suggests, scientists should be able to find some of this heat left over. In 1965,
Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson discovered a 2.725 degree Kelvin Cosmic Microwave Background
radiation which infuses the observable universe. This is thought to be the remnant that scientists were
looking for. Finally, the discovery of great amounts of Helium and Hydrogen lead to support the Big
Bang Theory. (LaRocco) So now that we have the basics of the Big Bang Theory, what happened after
the initial expansion? In the fractions of the first second after creation what was once a vacuum began
to expand into the universe. Immediately after the Big Bang the universe was tremendously hot as a
result of both matter and antimatter moving apart in all directions. (For every type of matter particle,
there also exists a corresponding antimatter particle. Antimatter particles look and behave just like
their corresponding matter particles, except they have opposite charges.) As it began to cool there was
about an equal abundance of matter and antimatter. As these two materials are

For many poor, minorities, and other disadvantaged groups, the country has not made significant
progress toward quality education for at risk youth consistent with specific provisions outlined in the
No Child Left Behind Act, failing the hopes of students and their families. When the NCLB Act was
signed into law by President George W. Bush on January 8, 2002, it was supposed to represent a new
beginning in providing quality school education to young people who come from low income families
and who have special needs. Its purpose was to close the achievement gap between groups of students

Unfortunately, these mandates did not produce the type of results supporters of the law had hope for.
Rather, they taught educators to see accountability as unserious and political (Bell and Hess). The law
produced false positives, resulting in mediocre to poor performances on standardized tests, more
public school takeovers and/or overhauling of school districts, controversial teacher reforms,
dependence on standardized test preparation rather than classroom content instruction, and increased
academic wrongdoings (e.g., changing of student grades and test taking fraud). In 2015, Congress in
both chambers passed a new education law, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), designed to fix some
of the flaws under NCLB. The ESSA was signed into law by President Barack Obama on December
10, 2015. This law shifted most of the responsibility of education policy and school accountability
from the federal government to the states. However, the law modified but did not eliminate provisions
relating to the periodic standardized tests given to students ( Every Student Succeeds Act ). On the
legal front, there have been remarkably very few legal challenges to NCLB. However, a few states and
special interest groups have tried to get some of the mandates taken out because they were
unconstitutional and/or created a financial burden on school districts across the country. One

The Lewis s The Four Loves Essay
Many cruel actions in the world have been carried out in the name of love. Because of that, it s clear to
see how not all forms of love are pure. The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces.
All of the relationships in this book are unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a
love factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love
being felt. A person can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely
separate interpretations of the word love. In the book, The Four Loves, Lewis dissects the different
forms of love. There are many connections to be made between characters throughout Till We Have
Faces and the four different types of love: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of the four loves
plays a part in the plot of the story.
The first of these loves is storge. Storge, Greek for affection, is the love in which physical features do
not have importance. An example would be a love for a family member or close friend (Four Loves 31
32). In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel receives love from her younger
sister, Psyche. The Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she frightens
people with her face (26). The Fox, Orual, and Psyche have a special bond. Psyche and Orual look at
the Fox as a father figure because he acts as a true grandfather towards them (21). Storge is found

Spies Of The American Revolution
Ceci Carmichael Mr. Lewis A.P. US History Period 4 11/19/14 Spies of the American Revolution The
American Revolution and the Revolutionary War was the starting point of America s journey to
become an independent country. The revolution was an aggressive movement to finally be free of
Britain once and for all. There were a lot of components in a victory for the Americans: help from
foreign countries, strong unity, home field advantage, and spies. Yes, spies. The spies who were in the
American Revolution played a crucial role in many aspects of the war, including discovering acts of
treason, learning British battle plans, and discovering locations of different individuals and groups of
the enemy. Throughout the entire war, there were many individuals and groups that sent information
all around, mostly in the New York and New Jersey area. Perhaps the most well known spy is Nathan
Hale. After graduating from Yale at age 18, Nathan was given the rank of 1st Lieutenant when he
joined the Continental army. A few months later, he was promoted to captain and was given a
command of Rangers to secure New York City. On September 6, 1776, Hale enlisted to become a spy.
Hale is not remembered for being a spy, though. He imitated a school teacher, his previous job before
the war. Hale s mission was to collect intelligence behind enemy lines before the Battle of Harlem

use of slow zooms in on the character is to help affect the audience on an intimate level.
The Story
Characters: The main characters are Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), Ellis Boyd Red Redding (Morgan
Freeman), Warden Norton (Bob Gunton), Heywood (William Sadler), and Captain Hadley (Clancy

As it stands right now the push back on reducing overhead support costs comes from a general

The Giver Community Analysis
In a community that is supposedly perfect, people do not even have the freedom of choice. The
community in The Giver by Lois Lowry, there is total sameness to try and prevent crimes and

community. Jonas s community also uses their control over everything that happens to limit emotions
and to strike fear in the powerless people.
Jonas s community is a dystopia because they strike fear in the community members to gain control.
One day a cargo aircraft flew over the community. This unusual event startled the community
members. The speaker used a raspy voice to alert members more. Then all the citizens had been
ordered to go into the nearest building. Immediately leave your bicycles where they are... Needlessly,

A Straight-forward Story in The Great Gatsby by Francis...
From the beginning of the The Great Gatsby, Francis Scott Fitzgerald uses the narrator, symbols, and
the characters. Using the narrator, symbol, and characters throughout the novel makes up the book that
is popular today. The Great Gatsby is a straightforward story. It slowly creates and shows the
characteristics of Gatsby. Reading the book through Nick Carraway s eyes and his description of what
is happening makes the book feel longer than it is ( Gatsby , Kenneth).Nick describes what he sees
and gives the reader his insight. He describes the room that he meets Daisy in during the first chapter.
He also describes the dresses Daisy and Jordan wore and this provides us with what his eyes would

Carraway. The beginning is three short stories that happen weeks apart. The story Nick is telling all
happens in one summer, but he adds in his past and what he learns about Gatsby s past ( Gatsby ,

between the book and the people reading. He connects the side events with Gatsby s story, and
connects Gatsby s story to the reader (Doreski). Nick interrupts the story and adds his own perception

Regarding the provenance of the raw materials, in this work we focus in the limestone, being an
important construction material that was not present in the immediate surroundings of
Tenochtitlan. In fact, this was an island city, located in the middle of a volcanic basin, and the nearest
geological limestone outcrops were located far away. According to the historical sources written
during the 16th century, the Aztecs imported by way of tribute and commerce lime and limestone from
different regions. For instance, the tributary lists known as the Matrícula de
Tributos (1991, 22) and the Codex Mendoza (1992, 28r, 42r) record that lime loads were brought
periodically from Tepeacac (a province located in the modern state of Puebla) and from Atotonilco ...

On the other hand, the native informants of Friar
Bernardino de Sahagún (1979, xi:221r) speak about different kinds of limestone used to paint:
chimaltizatl and tetizatl. After Sahagún (2000, 1132), the first came from Huaxtepec (near
Cuernavaca, Morelos) and was sold in the market, while the second one was obtained in the small
rivers near Tula (in the modern state of Hidalgo). For the new enlargement of the Templo
Mayor ordered around ad 1467 by Motecuhzoma I, mentioned above, the lime would have been
provided by the people from the Cuernavaca area, in the modern state of Morelos (Durán 1984;
Nicholson 1987; López Luján et al. 2003; López Luján 2006). Understanding the provenance of the
limestone used in the plasters of Templo Mayor, and clarifying whether there were changes over time
in the outcrops exploited, could therefore help in better understanding the relationship between the
Mexicas and their neighbours in Central Mexico and verifying what the historical sources suggest.
The three areas in which the main outcrops were possibly exploited in Prehispanic

The mechanical properties of the welded joint are determined by the microstructural behavior of
weldmetal [2]. It is well established that alloying elements such as Ti, Ni, B, Mo, Cr etc play an
important role for microstructural development [3]. Therefore, it is very essential to manipulate the
composition of welding consumables for the optimum joint properties. Previous researchers have used
various procedures to manipulate weld metal composition. Two major approaches for improving the
WM properties are to use of different types of flux and another one is to alter WM composition by the
introduce of newer filler material or by metal powder addition in WM [4]. Generally, weldmetal
microstructure of conventional low alloy steel consists of varying amounts of acicular ferrite,
polygonal ferrite, widmanstatten ferrite and M A microphases. It has been reported that the acicular
ferrite provide the optimum microstructure to the welds because of its fine grain size, as well as
dislocation density and reducing crack propagation[2]. One of the useful methods for promoting the
acicular ferrite formation in SAW is the enrichment of various oxides into the flux such as titanium
oxide, zirconium oxide, boron oxide. These oxides in the flux may contribute to different metallic
element dissolution and oxygen into the weld [5]. Evans et al. [6] studied the effect of

Analysis Of Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer
Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a
common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more
comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through or have gone
through the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be driven into
insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person s mind because
of the loneliness that comes with a lack of community making it an essential part of a humanhood. By
definition however, community invites inimitability. Community can be defined as a group of unique
individuals with shared characteristics. From that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am a black feminist... I recognize that my power as well as my primary obsessions come as a result
of my blackness as well as my womaness, and therefore my struggles on both of these fronts are
inseparable ... As a woman of color, I find that some feminists don t seem terribly concerned with the
issues unique to women of color the ongoing effects of racism and post colonialism, the status of
women in the Third World, working against the trenchant archetypes black women are forced into
(angry black woman, mammy, hottentot, and the like). (Gay 173).
Gay sees herself as an intersection of the black, woman, and feminist communities, making her a
hybrid of the three, giving her a distinct community to identify with as well as broader groups. She
identifies as a woman and acknowledges all of the expectations and stereotypes that accompanies. On
the other hand, her fundamental views on gender equality gives her the ability to empathize with the
feminist community. Nevertheless, in every group of people, everyone is a distinct individual with a
distinct number of characteristics, both physical and emotional, that sets them apart from the person
next to them. As a woman of color, Gay has a list of additional concerns and interests that pertains to
her specific experience that are not necessarily included throughout the entire group of feminists. Gay
could be branched off into dozens of more sects and factions that pertain to specific

The Medici Bank Essay
Giovanni di Bicci de Medici founded the Medici bank in 1397 after splitting from his nephew to
establish a bank branch in Florence. As the new bank grew and expanded, so did the wealth and power
of the Medici family. When Cosimo il Vecchio de Medici, Giovanni s son, took over the banking
business in 1434, the increasing economic power of the Medici family allowed them to establish
themselves as effective rulers of Florence while keeping the republican system of government
nominally intact. The bank provided the Medici family a combination of economic and political power
that facilitated the stability of Medici rule. Thus, the failure of the Medici bank during the reign of
Lorenzo il Magnifico was key to the collapse of the Medici ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The political advantages of the bank also permitted the Medici family to maintain their control over
Renaissance Florence. On an international level, the bank provided the Medici family a degree of
favourable contact with the Pope and other Renaissance princes. The Medici thus relied on a system of
diplomacy in which they attempted to cultivate and maintain personal ties with individual rulers. As
historian Gene Brucker explains, This [system of] personal diplomacy was most likely to succeed
when it was reinforced by mutual interests; Medici loans to Francesco Sforza [the ruler of Milan] were
repaid when the latter sent troops to Florence to thwart a revolutionary movement. Milan was not the
only state to trade the Medici political favours for bank loans. Economic historian Raymond de
Roover, the author of the most comprehensive economic studies of the collapse of the Medici bank,
also notes that male relatives of the Pope s bankers (the Medici) received preferential treatment upon
entering the holy orders, and were rapidly made bishops, cardinals, and in some cases, popes.
Giovanni di Lorenzo de Medici, for example, received the tonsure at age seven and became a cardinal
at age fourteen because of the influence his father, Lorenzo il Magnifico, had with

Education Reform For The Elementary And Secondary...
Throughout the history of education there has been many education reforms. According to Enrique
Pena Nieto Education reform has as its main purpose to make sure that the education delivered is of
quality ( (2015 BrainyQuote INC, 2015). Whether it be for primary and secondary students, higher
education, low income students, or teachers, there is always an improvement that can be made for the
better. A comparison of education reforms that reveals some of the positive, negative, and needed
changes in education.
One of the biggest reforms in American education history came in 1965 when the Elementary and
Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was signed. Told by the this article ESEA initiated Title 1 which is a
legislation that provided funds for the quality and betterment for primary and secondary schools and
school districts with a high percentage of low income students (Ayers,Jeremy 2011). Since this
regulation was passed there have been many positive changes such as drop out rates, parental
involvement, and providing more qualified teacher s percentage have all increased significantly
(Ayers,Jeremy 2011). Other great reforms were Smith Hugh, Act of 1917 (SMHA) and School to
Work Opportunity Act (STWOA) of 1994. Comparatively, all three reforms were federal funded
programs to increase the number of qualified teachers. However in an article by Stephens, G. E.
(1995), ESEA was a legislation devoted to improving low income student s education. SMHA and
STOWA were reforms concentrated

The Importance Of Concealed Carry Handguns
Concealed Carry Handguns Carrying a concealed handgun in public is permitted in all 50 states as of
2013, when Illinois became the last state to enact the concealed carry legislation. The Safe Carry
Protection Act of 2014 or the House Bill 60 went into effect in Georgia on July 1st 2014. Its nickname
being guns everywhere bill specifies where Georgia residents can carry concealed handguns. The
included provisions allow Georgia residents that have concealed carry permits to carry their weapons
into some bars, churches, school zones, government buildings, and certain parts of airports. The bill
won in the house by a vote of 112 58, and in the senate by a 37 18 vote. Governor Deal Stated The

Madigan, December 11th, 2012, it was ruled 2 1 by the federal 7th Circuit Court of Appeals that the
right to bear arms , that is guaranteed by the Second Amendment, must be interpreted to include a
right to have a concealed gun in public, to have it ready for use as self defense, or for the defense of
others. In this case an Illinois law was challenged, this law stated that it is forbidden to carry a gun
ready to use (loaded, immediately accessible, uncased), with exceptions for police, security personnel,
hunters, members of target shooting clubs, a person on his own property, in his home, in his fixed
place of business, or on the property of someone who has permitted him to be there with a ready to use
gun. Up until this case, in Illinois, only excepted persons could carry an unloaded gun in public,
uncased and immediately accessible, unless it is being carried openly outside of a vehicle, with no
easily accessible ammunition, in an unincorporated district. This case was dismissed by the district
court, after their ruling that the Second Amendment does not permit for self defense outside of your
personal property. The 7th circuit court reversed the district court s ruling, but mandated their ruling
for 180 days to allow for the legislature to draft new restrictions. The Supreme Court decided that it is
just as important to have self defense outside of the home, as it is inside the home, and they
determined this based on the right to bear arms as

(Research and Markets. Business Wire, 2011) This association with marketing has turned some people
away from using them causing a dip in popularity. It s likely because it was over used by marketers
and for many it never worked as it was suppose to. But did you know that the QR code has other
multiple linkable functions in communications that are not related to marketing? These are based on
the delivery of useful information to any user of a smart mobile phone or a device that has ability to
scan the QR code. With the use of QR codes an origination can link digital copies of data that was
previously distributed in printed form thus reducing costs and making them more environmentally
friendly. Other examples of QR codes uses are in outdoor venues, public buildings such as art

It is from here on that the genre of popular music existed and began to dominate the charts. Of course, there were acts that existed before the 50 s, and made a good name for them selves, acts like Bing Crosby, but it was in the 50 s that certain artists became household names, and idols to the masses. The first, and most iconic of these artistes, is of course, Elvis Presley. After making a name for him self in the states, Elvis music then began to cross the border into other countries, and continents. Elvis was the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Playing the guitar in ways never seen before, Clapton was hailed as a god, and the genre of blues was re instated into the music industry. Clapton then went on to form the first super group . In 1966, Cream were formed, and by combining Clapton s bluesy styles with the more rocky style of Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, Cream created a new genre of blues rock. Zepplin could also be credited for pioneering this genre. It was this genre that got Cream and Zeppelin noticed in the US. In 1964, Top of the Pops was born. Like previous music shows, it was a showcase of musical talent. The show went down brilliantly in the UK, with mass numbers watching the show each week to catch a glimpse of their idols. All the current acts at the time were called to play on the show, and it was great publicity for each act. Top of the Pops continued for many decades. Also in 64, new musical technologies were developed and brought to the mainstream market, such things as organs. This allowed acts to create new sounds push the boundaries of popular music even further. Into the 2nd half of the decade came the arrival of The Rolling Stones and The Who. These continued along the Blues Rock path pioneered by Cream and Zeppelin, and both had great success. It was these acts that led to the nickname, the swinging 60 s . 1966 saw the beginning of psychedelic music. It was The Beatles who first began to experiment like this. Adding new ... • 3. Ivan Denisovich Answers The author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn throughout the book One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich brings up the question of how to make life meaningful, in this case, in the darkest circumstances. Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, the main character, lives a normal day in his life of suffering prisoner to a gulag camp. The book offers interpretations that leads to answers to the central question mentioned previously. Answers vary from making meaning in life by being unique and standing out as an individual, meeting people in which to bond and live with, and coming to terms with one s circumstances in life. This would affect a reader s understanding of the work as a whole by putting the whole situation in a new view in which one can truly see the struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this novel the prevailing question is how to live life with a sense of significance, the prisoners in the gulag camp undergo ghastly conditions but by making peace with how their life is they can move on and continue a positive life. Shukhov is a prime example in which case he is unchanged by the camp, he keeps strict morals and has a specific code of ethics all the while braving through the heinous gulag camp. The storyteller states, At five o clock that morning reveille was sounded [...] The clanging ceased, but everything outside still looked like the middle of the night when ivan Denisovich Shukhov got up to go to the bucket [...] He always got up at once, for the next ninety minutes, until they assembled for work (Solzhenitsyn 6), this statement of Shukhov s actions would prove how he lived with a purpose and went straight to work. Shukhov wakes earlier than the rest then works hard and relentlessly, by being strong in this case and coming to terms with how his life is currently he continues as if everything is normal and just focuses on doing what he can, which is working hard. If people are stuck on the negative aspects of life and how they are powerless to some things it overall creates a pessimistic view which makes life worse in quality. By accepting everything Shukhov focuses on what is possible and strives after working hard which makes his life leaps and bounds more enthusiastic than someone who dwells on the unalterable, gloomy parts of existence. The prisoners use the harsh conditions of the gulag camp as a way to strengthen themselves, the spectator mentions, and the longer he spent at the camp the stronger he made himself (Solzhenitsyn 56). By getting over the worst parts of life and just doing your best with what you can people become more fortified and are able to live life with more bravado than others. • 4. Qualitative Critique Of A Qualitative Study Qualitative Critique Paper: Critique of a Qualitative Study Grace Fahham Shenandoah University What was the purpose of the study? The purpose of this qualitative study was to describe how occupational therapists involved client centred activities in daily living (CADL) in their practice. This was done by reviewing the therapist s experiences and reflections about their interaction with clients that suffered from a stroke. The study involved coding of three categories. These categories included: 1) Sharing an understanding as the point of departure, 2) Sharing through experiences, and 3) Challenges in applying the CADL. How were the participants recruited? This study was involved in the LAS II (a multicenter cluster randomized controlled trial). There was an intervention group, receiving the CADL, as well as a control group, receiving the normal ADL intervention. Chosen for the study in LAS II were those treated for an acute stroke in a stroke unit less than three months or three months after the stroke occurred. In addition, those eligible for the study had to have met the following conditions: be dependent in at least two ADL s, not having been diagnosed with dementia, able to fully understand and follow instructions, were referred for rehabilitation to one of the 16 units participating in LAS II. Integrated Water Resources Management There have been several interpretations as well as critisms with the concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). For instance, Biswas (2008) criticize that the concept cannot be implemented operationally. However, Mitchell B (2004) finds it to be greater at the normative (what ought to be) and strategic (what can be) level which may result to the provision of different framework for different types of approaches. Placht (2007) said that IWRM is a principle intended as guide in project planning. However, the widely used definition of IWRM is the one formulated by Global Water Partnership (GWP) which defined IWRM as a process that promotes the co ordinated development and management of water, ... Through IWRM concept, there is a way or process that can be followed in managing water resources, though not necessarily applicable to all countries, and even still with some limitations and questions. In contrast to the traditional water resources management approach, IWRM scopes and proceeds in an integrated manner versus sectoral/project focus scope. IWRM approaches problem solving taking into consideration all related sectors as oppose to traditional that focuses on sectoral need and benefit. Conflicts are resolved not only within users but within uses too. Finally, with broad participation of stakeholders as oppose to limited participation only. In a nutshell, IWRM is a well conceptualized principle backed with well written definition, accepted and heavily promoted by funding agencies. With this it attracts many doubts and criticism, in its every aspect. Receiving money to perform sexual actions has become either a lifestyle choice or a hostile option for the female prostitutes in the Netherlands, particularly in the city of Amsterdam. The participants involved in the legalized policy of prostitution are subjected to ambiguous impacts which involve social, political, health, and economic divisions. Since prostitution was legalized as of the year 2000, Amsterdam has seen a decline in criminal activity, allowing workers an increase in autonomy, and provides better labor conditions. The stereotypical association with sex workers is that they originate from disturbed or traumatic lifestyles, while some do enter prostitution through the forms of sex trafficking and other related incidents, there are others who independently choose to become a sex worker or prostitute. According to research, women that have been introduced to trafficking networks derive either from forcefulness from groups or have deliberately chosen to enter the workforce of the sex industry. (Barrett, Melrose, 2006). Even though sex trafficking is one way of entering the sex industry in the Netherlands, it is not always perceived as a highly reviewed decision by the women who choose to take such a path. While the conditions of these actions are not expected in the decision process, some women may feel that trafficking will aid in the escape of their country of origins current conditions, whether it be from social, economic, or political reasons. Romanticism was a cultural movement in the eighteenth century that had an impact on in many areas including music, art, and literature. The movement that Romanticism put forth was so powerful that today, scholars refer to it as a revolution that took place in rebellion against the austere views of groups like the Puritans from the previous centuries. (L 79) After continual expansion of the American colonies, many Indian tribes were forced to leave their native land and move westward. Bryant explains that this had a major impact on the mound people, The red man came/ The roaming hunter tribes, warlike and fierce, / And the mound builders vanished from the earth (L 58 61). Then Bryant becomes extremely compassionate for the vanquished mound people when he says, All—save the piles of earth that hold their bones / The platforms where they worshipped unknown gods / The barriers which they builded from the soil/ To keep the foe at bay—till o er the walls/ The wild beleaguerers broke, and one by one, / The strong holds of the plain were forced, and heaped/ With corpses (L 64 71). After taking over the prairies form the mound people, the Indians then lived peacefully until they again come in contact with the colonists. The colonist way on life is what again forces the Indians to leave because all of the bison had been killed. Later in the poem Bryant then shows sympathetic feelings toward the Indians after their way of life was changed by the colonists when he states, The white man s face—among Missouri s springs,/ And pools whose issues swell the Oregan,/ He rears his little Venice. • 8. Reflection Paper On Regular Council Meeting Regular City Council Meeting I have always prided myself as a person who knows virtually everything that happens around my community. It is common for humans to judge or misjudge what they do not know or understand. Too often we are quick to criticize and lash after what other people say or do simply because we do not understand it. This fact describes the character and attitude of many people especially when it comes to politics and how a country is run right from the top to the bottom. The average people is generally unconcerned with political affairs like how politicians spend their tax money. You only need to look at the dismally low voter turn out to confirm this fact. This should to change and for me, this change came on 26th October 2017, when I decided to attend The Tempe City Regular Council Meeting. I had never attended such a meeting before. Part of the reason is perhaps owing to the attitude of most people as I explained earlier but more particularly, I had not seen any local issue that moved me enough to demand the necessity to have my voice heard or to be curious enough to want to find out about the secrets of the operations of the local government. Generally, I knew that the decisions made and policies developed by the city government affected my life directly or indirectly. However, to sit and watch all the work and grind that goes to the formulation of these policies and decisions has made me realize that democracy is not self driving. The Chambers After completing my classes for the day, I went directly to Tempe City Hall City Council Chambers which is housed in the Harry E. Mitchell Government Center. As I got in two minutes before the official starting time, the room was almost fully occupied but I was lucky to secure a seat at a position where I could follow the proceedings comfortably. The chamber is divided into two seating areas one for the Council Members and the other for the members of the public. The two areas face each other and are separated in the middle by a corridor that connects to two main entrance/exit points. The area accommodating the councilmembers is at a relatively elevated angle compared to the area where the citizens sit to facilitate easy and effective engagement. ... However, nuclear weapons have not only served in combat, but they have also played a role in keeping the world peaceful by the concept of deterrence. The usage of nuclear weapons would lead to mutual destruction and during the Cold War, nuclear weapons were necessary to maintain international security, as a means of deterrence. Additionally, it also presents perspectives on important policies and strategies of Iran and North Korea, in regard to the development of their armory of nuclear weapons. Since the end of the Cold War, the cases of nuclear proliferation in Iran and North Korea have gathered enormous international attention. Iran s nuclear program appeared as a result of the Cold War alliance between the United States and the late Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. In 2003, Iran was suspected of developing a military nuclear capability and is now developing medium and intermediate ballistic missiles, which are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. On the other hand, North Korea set off a nuclear device and declared suspicions about a military nuclear program in 2006. Iran and North Korea have recently started cooperation to develop multi stage ballistic missiles and have conducted several missile flight tests over the last few years (Schmid, 2008). With sources dating back to the late 1960s, North Korea s nuclear weapons program has expanded to be a useful instrument of the government s security. Its principal motivations for developing the nuclear weapons are as follows: to block foreign pressure, create an international impact and preserve the terms and conditions of the DPRK (ruling party of North Korea). In contrast, Iran s motivations to develop strategic weapons appear to be more complex than that of North Korea. Iran s efforts to develop nuclear, chemical and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Kazuo Ishiguro Genre Analysis The first question asked in the readings and discussions that we went through in class is what exactly is the meaning of genre. To me personally, the word genre is it describes either a novel, film, video game or music by certain generic ideas or rules of what defines that specific genre. Stories can be described through narrative forms, such as if the writing piece is either a short story, a novel or even a poem or narration. Also, stories can even be characterized by either similar themes or settings and/or if they follow a certain structure such as if a book is either defined as comedy or drama. Daniel Chandler explains perfectly in An Introduction to Genre Theory how genre is not always straightforward in defining things such as stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also discuss certain books that they have written and how some people have complained that it shouldn t be classified as a fantasy novel. Both explain how genres are now being mixed and that sometimes, a book cannot be labeled by just one specific type of genre. I agree with some of Neil Gaiman s statements, such as how he states that the subject of the book doesn t determine genre and that genres only exist when there s an abundance of novels that fit that specific genre. I both partly agree and disagree with Kazuo Ishiguro. I agree with how he believes that there are certain patterns that are associated with the genre, however, many readers and writers take these specifications too seriously, and believe that if you don t follow the certain standards of what makes a specific genre, they believe that it is strange. However, I don t agree with Ishiguro when he states Books are serving the same function as certain brands of cars or jewelry, in just denoting social position. That kind of motivation attaches itself to reading in a way that probably doesn t attach itself to film (Ishiguro 7). • 11. Analysis Of Film Production Of The Merchant Of Venice Film Review Michael Radford s 2004 film production of The Merchant of Venice provides a well executed and generally faithful rendition of Shakespeare s play. Radford s production especially succeeds in both its casting and set design that elevates the mood and drama contained in Shakespeare s text. In addition to the filming, particular attention was taken to following the original text, but some interesting in liberties in plot details were taken. Radford s production serves as an exemplar of film adaptions of Shakespeare s play; it takes the challenge of adapting the text to the screen with excellent casting, bold filming, and well imagined sets. Jeremy Irons as Antonio, the merchant, gives a convincing mix of optimism converted to pessimism as he prepares for his death in the court. Perhaps the best casting, Al Pacino plays an excellent Shylock that initially invokes the movie watcher s empathy then turns quickly into an enraged, psychopathic persona reminiscent to his characters in Scarface or Godfather. Particularly, Pacino shows off his talent in the famous Hath not a Jew eyes monologue where Pacino takes us through a full emotional range of compassion, sympathy, to scorching rage. Similarly, Radford uses this scene to show off his directorial chops: the scene uses a follow shot in which the camera follows Pacino s character as he crosses the dark Venetian streets, through a brothel to find Antonio s comrades, and back into the streets where the heart of his ... In addition to the container, you also need the appropriate soil mixture and draining mechanisms. For the best drainage, fill the bottom of your container with 2 or 3 inches of gravel. The answer is no. If there were no other groups in which we communicated with, we would not need to separate ourselves. It is through interactions with other groups that we decide what will distinguish us as a people. This can mean the absorption of another s ideals or the complete rejection of them. Beyond just establishing societal values, this open trade allowed for a growth in the economy and in literature. Many authors went to write stories based on these spices. They wrote of witches and mages that used these herbs to cast dreadful spells. Art is a physical expression of a culture and literature is considered under the category of art. But in pre modern society, people normally rebuke and disdain those who murders his/her bloodlines because it is a betrayal to their parents or their own blood. In line 1529, Clytemnestra describes Agamemnon s bloodline killing and his death that with the sword he struck; with the sword he paid for his own act. This indicates another reason that Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon: to punish those who betrayed their bloodlines. Since Iphigeneia is the daughter of both Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, killing Agamemnon is definitely reasonable to Clytemnestra. Nevertheless, Clytemnestra is also the member of Agamemnon family, what will people think if she murders her husband? People might not judge the murderer in the mariticide or uxoricide as heavy as those murder the bloodlines because sexual partners don t share the blood from the same parents during pre modern period. In a way, mariticide and uxoricide are totally same as the normal murdering. • 17. Modernism Vs Imperialism Modernization has always been the objective for growing colonies and empires. The current generation of today s time still aims to modernize and grow as a nation. However, the past holds many mistakes and misconceptions about how the world can continue to modernize given specific circumstances and factors. Today, historians, citizens and many others look over these past events and learn from the complications made from previous leaders. One great example of a horrific imperial occurrence is portrayed by King Leopold II of Belgium. Within his time of ruling he displayed manipulation, ignorance and gruesome consequences of corruption. He took the opportunity to create prosperity out of the Congo Free State and turned it cold with unethical dishonesty, brutality and corrupt power. With all of his planning going to waste, King Leopold showed all of history how combining imperialism with modernity can turn to the absolute worst for humanity. To begin, imperialism had always been a long term system of governing. Empires were built, colonies were created, and growth occurred to make today s world. It was always seen that the king of an empire knew what was best for his nation. He was given the power to make impacting decisions and lead his empire to success. However, many kings were found corrupted and abused their powers for their own benefit. Helicopter parenting is the newest trend in today s society, it is a way of raising children in a very stern, controlled, and structured manner. Helicopter parents control their children s lives with strict rules and often complete tasks for the children that are unnecessary all to protect their children. This child raising strategy most often incorporates an element of babying , such as making their teenager s lunch for them every day, doing their child s homework and projects for them, and not letting their child go anywhere alone even when they are in well into their teen years. Children who have helicopter parents never learn to be accountable for their actions because their parents constantly did everything for them. They have a fear of failure, a lack of confidence, and co dependency issues (Blau). The children also, as a result of being sheltered by their parents, have decreased confidence and self esteem, undeveloped coping skills, increased anxiety, a sense of entitlement, and undeveloped life skills. These children are just not capable of doing things for themselves and this leads to many issues later in life. However, helicopter parenting is not always a horrible thing. Studies have shown that physical abuse has dropped astonishingly, from 1992 to 2011 the rates dropped by 55%. The same thing happened to counts of sexual abuse, it fell by 64% through the same year range. The number of abductions by strangers fell by 51% from 1997 to 2012, and motor vehicle deaths of children under 13 years of age fell 43% in the last decade (Baer). This study equates the drops to the rise of helicopter parents. Although counts of physical harm have dropped, an in depth study was done by Florida State University that surveyed around 460 college students about their life satisfaction levels. Those who had been raised by parents who gave them a larger sense of autonomy reported higher levels of satisfaction in life and those who reported having helicopter parents reported low levels of self efficacy, and higher levels of anxiety and depression ( Helicopter Parents ). During that time, the entire Universe was inside a bubble that was thousands of times smaller than a pinhead, and it was insanely hot and dense. Out of nowhere this little bubble started expanding. This expansion created what we know as the Universe. In such little time the Universe went from the size of an atom to the ginormous galaxy we have that is continuously growing. Edwin Hubble s evidence supports the expansion of the universe and suggests that the universe was once compacted. Third, if the universe was insanely hot as the Big Bang suggests, scientists should be able to find some of this heat left over. In 1965, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson discovered a 2.725 degree Kelvin Cosmic Microwave Background radiation which infuses the observable universe. He connects the side events with Gatsby s story, and connects Gatsby s story to the reader (Doreski). Nick interrupts the story and adds his own perception to the story that he is a part of. Usually this would make the story less smooth but he connects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Can you imagine your whole life seeing stop signs, or red traffic lights and all you can taste is what can only be described as a combination of tar and body odor? Synesthesia is defined as the blending of senses such as having all the letters of the alphabet combined with a particular color or being able to look at a color and taste an actual taste and smell an actual smell. I don t just dislike the color red because it clashes with my skin tone I dislike it because tar does not taste satisfying. • 38. Tenochtitlan Regarding the provenance of the raw materials, in this work we focus in the limestone, being an important construction material that was not present in the immediate surroundings of Tenochtitlan. In fact, this was an island city, located in the middle of a volcanic basin, and the nearest geological limestone outcrops were located far away. According to the historical sources written during the 16th century, the Aztecs imported by way of tribute and commerce lime and limestone from different regions. For instance, the tributary lists known as the Matrícula de Tributos (1991, 22) and the Codex Mendoza (1992, 28r, 42r) record that lime loads were brought periodically from Tepeacac (a province located in the modern state of Puebla) and from Atotonilco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, the native informants of Friar Bernardino de Sahagún (1979, xi:221r) speak about different kinds of limestone used to paint: chimaltizatl and tetizatl. After Sahagún (2000, 1132), the first came from Huaxtepec (near Cuernavaca, Morelos) and was sold in the market, while the second one was obtained in the small rivers near Tula (in the modern state of Hidalgo). For the new enlargement of the Templo Mayor ordered around ad 1467 by Motecuhzoma I, mentioned above, the lime would have been provided by the people from the Cuernavaca area, in the modern state of Morelos (Durán 1984; Nicholson 1987; López Luján et al. 2003; López Luján 2006). Understanding the provenance of the limestone used in the plasters of Templo Mayor, and clarifying whether there were changes over time in the outcrops exploited, could therefore help in better understanding the relationship between the Mexicas and their neighbours in Central Mexico and verifying what the historical sources suggest. The mechanical properties of the welded joint are determined by the microstructural behavior of weldmetal [2]. It is well established that alloying elements such as Ti, Ni, B, Mo, Cr etc play an important role for microstructural development [3]. Therefore, it is very essential to manipulate the composition of welding consumables for the optimum joint properties. Previous researchers have used various procedures to manipulate weld metal composition. Two major approaches for improving the WM properties are to use of different types of flux and another one is to alter WM composition by the introduce of newer filler material or by metal powder addition in WM [4]. Generally, weldmetal microstructure of conventional low alloy steel consists of varying amounts of acicular ferrite, polygonal ferrite, widmanstatten ferrite and M A microphases. It has been reported that the acicular ferrite provide the optimum microstructure to the welds because of its fine grain size, as well as dislocation density and reducing crack propagation[2]. One of the useful methods for promoting the acicular ferrite formation in SAW is the enrichment of various oxides into the flux such as titanium oxide, zirconium oxide, boron oxide. These oxides in the flux may contribute to different metallic element dissolution and oxygen into the weld [5]. Evans et al. [6] studied the effect of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Analysis Of Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through or have gone through the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be driven into insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person s mind because of the loneliness that comes with a lack of community making it an essential part of a humanhood. By definition however, community invites inimitability. Community can be defined as a group of unique individuals with shared characteristics. From that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. The Medici Bank Essay Giovanni di Bicci de Medici founded the Medici bank in 1397 after splitting from his nephew to establish a bank branch in Florence. As the new bank grew and expanded, so did the wealth and power of the Medici family. When Cosimo il Vecchio de Medici, Giovanni s son, took over the banking business in 1434, the increasing economic power of the Medici family allowed them to establish themselves as effective rulers of Florence while keeping the republican system of government nominally intact. The bank provided the Medici family a combination of economic and political power that facilitated the stability of Medici rule. The political advantages of the bank also permitted the Medici family to maintain their control over Renaissance Florence. On an international level, the bank provided the Medici family a degree of favourable contact with the Pope and other Renaissance princes. The Medici thus relied on a system of diplomacy in which they attempted to cultivate and maintain personal ties with individual rulers. As historian Gene Brucker explains, This [system of] personal diplomacy was most likely to succeed when it was reinforced by mutual interests; Medici loans to Francesco Sforza [the ruler of Milan] were repaid when the latter sent troops to Florence to thwart a revolutionary movement. Milan was not the only state to trade the Medici political favours for bank loans. Economic historian Raymond de Roover, the author of the most comprehensive economic studies of the collapse of the Medici bank, also notes that male relatives of the Pope s bankers (the Medici) received preferential treatment upon entering the holy orders, and were rapidly made bishops, cardinals, and in some cases, popes. Giovanni di Lorenzo de Medici, for example, received the tonsure at age seven and became a cardinal at age fourteen because of the influence his father, Lorenzo il Magnifico, had with ... • 42. Education Reform For The Elementary And Secondary... Throughout the history of education there has been many education reforms. According to Enrique Pena Nieto Education reform has as its main purpose to make sure that the education delivered is of quality ( (2015 BrainyQuote INC, 2015). Whether it be for primary and secondary students, higher education, low income students, or teachers, there is always an improvement that can be made for the better. A comparison of education reforms that reveals some of the positive, negative, and needed changes in education. One of the biggest reforms in American education history came in 1965 when the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was signed. Told by the this article ESEA initiated Title 1 which is a legislation that provided funds for the quality and betterment for primary and secondary schools and school districts with a high percentage of low income students (Ayers,Jeremy 2011). Since this regulation was passed there have been many positive changes such as drop out rates, parental involvement, and providing more qualified teacher s percentage have all increased significantly (Ayers,Jeremy 2011). Other great reforms were Smith Hugh, Act of 1917 (SMHA) and School to Work Opportunity Act (STWOA) of 1994. Comparatively, all three reforms were federal funded programs to increase the number of qualified teachers. However in an article by Stephens, G. E. (1995), ESEA was a legislation devoted to improving low income student s education. SMHA and STOWA were reforms concentrated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Madigan, December 11th, 2012, it was ruled 2 1 by the federal 7th Circuit Court of Appeals that the right to bear arms , that is guaranteed by the Second Amendment, must be interpreted to include a right to have a concealed gun in public, to have it ready for use as self defense, or for the defense of others. In this case an Illinois law was challenged, this law stated that it is forbidden to carry a gun ready to use (loaded, immediately accessible, uncased), with exceptions for police, security personnel, hunters, members of target shooting clubs, a person on his own property, in his home, in his fixed place of business, or on the property of someone who has permitted him to be there with a ready to use gun. Up until this case, in Illinois, only excepted persons could carry an unloaded gun in public, uncased and immediately accessible, unless it is being carried openly outside of a vehicle, with no easily accessible ammunition, in an unincorporated district. This case was dismissed by the district court, after their ruling that the Second Amendment does not permit for self defense outside of your personal property. The 7th circuit court reversed the district court s ruling, but mandated their ruling for 180 days to allow for the legislature to draft new restrictions. The Supreme Court decided that it is just as important to have self defense outside of the home, as it is inside the home, and they determined this based on the right to bear arms as ...
